International audience; Au sein de l'équipe du LIMC à Paris Nanterre (laboratoire ArScAn) dans le cadre une bourse Marie Skłodowska-Curie (HORIZON-MSCA-2021), je développe mes recherches sur l’artisanat du stuc dans les Champs Phlégrèens en particulier sur les stucs des nécropoles de Pouzzoles avec le projet STUCCO. Ces derniers, prélevés de leur contexte à l’époque moderne, sont aujourd’hui conservés dans plusieurs musées en Europe. L’enquête consiste à dresser le corpus et à documenter le contexte archéologique de ces stucs, victimes du collectionnisme aux 18e-19e siècles. J'aborde ces ensembles à travers leur matérialité, leur iconographie et leur réception moderne afin de fournir une biographie complète de ces vestiges.

Il concetto di sviluppo sostenibile ha influenzato enormemente il modo contemporaneo di progettare. Tuttavia il matrimonio tra Adriano Olivetti e Luigi Cosenza anticipa fortemente quest'approccio basato sul rapporto con il paesaggio, su pochi e chiari elementi formali e sul controllo della luce naturale che oggi consente di individuare un filone architettonico di indubbia qualità che si distingue in particolar modo nell'Italia dei piccoli centri. Pertanto la fabbrica di Pozzuoli costituisce una delle migliori espressioni architettoniche delle innovative idee di Olivetti che inevitabilmente si sposano con le sperimentazioni di Cosenza, il suo ragionamento sul rapporto tra tradizione e ambiente e l'affermazione del valore etico e sociale dell'architettura, divenendo un modello architettonico imprescindibile per i progettisti dei nostri giorni.

The present study was aimed at evaluating sediment pollution and toxicity in the Bay of Pozzuoli (BoP) (Tyrrhenian Sea, southern Italy), characterized by high anthropic pressure and by previous industrial facilities. Analyses were carried out to evaluate the content of metals, total hydrocarbons (CIO-C40) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in sediment samples collected along five transects from the coast. Sediment samples were tested for toxicity as whole sediment (WS) suspensions to sea urchins (Arbacia lixula), or as elutriate (EL) in diatoms (Phaeodactylum tricornutum). WS-exposed sea urchin embryos and sperm underwent significant increase of developmental defects (DD), or inhibition of fertilization success and increased DD in the offspring of WS-exposed sperm. Diatoms were reared in sediment EL and the effects were evaluated as growth inhibition. Different pollution and toxicity patterns were observed along the five sediment sampling transects, without a monotonic trend vs. distance from coast, suggesting increased sediment toxicity in samples collected at intermediate distances. © 2020 Parlar Scientific Publications. Climate change is affecting the frequency and severity of extreme meteorological and geo-hydrological events hitting the coastal zone of the Campi Flegrei volcanic district (southern Italy), which is prone to a wide spectrum of natural hazards, including volcanism, earthquakes, ground deformation, flash floods, landslides and coastal erosion. This study documents the trend of flash floods affecting the urban area of Pozzuoli, located along the coastline of the Campi Flegrei volcanic area during 1970-2014 time period. An archive research together with the collection of data published on news websites and social media allowed understanding of the triggering and evolution mechanisms of flash floods in the area, as well as the most recurrent damages. Rainfall data collected by the rain gauge located within the Pozzuoli watershed were also analyzed and rainfall properties estimated. Results of this study show an increased frequency of flash flood events occurred in the study area. The variation in flash flood frequency is likely not related to urbanization changes, as no increase of the urban area occurred after the year 2000. The observed increase in the flash flood events in recent years (2000-2014) can be reasonably ascribed to variations in the rainfall regime. Our research provide a contribution for the understanding of flash flood processes in the study area as well as relevant information for hazard and risk assessment.

Die so zahlreich vorhandenen ��berreste aus der r��mischen Kaiserzeit sind im gesamten Golfo di Pozzuoli vorzufinden. Bei intensiver Betrachtung dieser Landschaft kann durchaus romantische Stimmung aufkommen und es liegt nahe sich vorzustellen, dass hier einmal eine bl��hende Stadt den Ort gepr��gt hat. Der Tempio di Tettuno in Pozzuoli ist ein Zeitzeuge der r��mischen Badekultur, der jedoch vorwiegend nur noch in unserem Geiste existiert. Der Neptun Tempel war einer der gr��ssten Badetempel in der Region. Die ��brig gebliebenen Mauerst��cke br��ckeln vor sich hin, was nicht bedeutet, es solle unbedingt das Ziel sein, diese zu konservieren. Vielmehr zeigt diese Arbeit eine M��glichkeit auf, die Erinnerung weiterleben zu lassen und mit einer neuzeitlichen Funktion, die dem Erbe mit Respekt gegen��bertritt, wieder aktiv zu nutzen. Der architektonische Eingriff schafft eine Oase im Stadtgef��ge, eine kleine Welt des R��ckzuges und der K��rperkultur. Der ��ffentliche Park wird durch den Bauk��rper abgegrenzt und stellt die Ruinen in dessen Mittelpunkt. Die Masterthesis versteht sich als eine r��umliche Idee, die typologisch und konstruktiv ausgearbeitet wurde und als Entwurf pr��sentiert wird., The numerous relicts from the Roman Iron Age are visible in the whole Golfo di Pozzuoli. With an intensiv focus on this landscape it is easily imaginable to end up in a romantic atmosphere of a blooming city that dominates this location. The Tempio di Nettuno in Pozzuoli is a contemporary witness of roman bath cluture that however simply exists in our mind. The Temple of Neptune was one of the biggest public baths in the whole region. The extant pieces of wall are crumbeling onto the ground and there should be no reason to conserve them. In fact this assignment shows a way to live on the memory and activate it whit a new-age function that treats the inheritance whit respect. The arcitectual intervention creates an oasis in the urban tissue, a small world of retreat and body cluture. The public parc is delimited of the building structure and places the ruins in its center point. The master thesis should be understanded as a spatial idea that is elaborated in typology and construction and finally presented as a conceptual design.

Im Herzen der Phlegr��ischen Felder, eingebettet in eine nat��rliche Bucht liegt die italienische Hafenstadt Pozzuoli. Sie ist eine Stadt mit vielen Schichten und reich an Geschichten, die ihre Bl��tezeit jedoch schon lange hinter sich hat. Einst war sie ein bl��hendes Handelszentrum im antiken Mittelmeerraum sowie ein beliebter Bade- und Erholungsort f��r die r��mische Oberschicht wegen der zahlreichen nat��rlichen hei��en Quellen in den umliegenden Phlegr��ischen Feldern. Heute ist das Stadtbild gepr��gt von ��berlagerungen, die der Lauf der Geschichte hervorgerufen hat. R��mische Ruinen bilden das Fundament f��r moderne anonyme Wohnbebauung, ohne dass zwischen ihnen ein Dialog entstehen w��rde. Am Hang ��ber dem Hafen gelegen, ausgestattet mit einem herrlichen Blick ��ber den Golf von Pozzuoli, befinden sich noch beeindruckende ��berreste der r��mischen Terme di Nettuno. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, durch das Aufarbeiten der Geschichte der r��mischen Therme ein architektonisches Projekt zu entwickeln, das sehr pr��zise auf die gegebenen Bedingungen eingeht und sich optimal in die heterogene Umgebung einf��gt. Das Projekt soll an die pr��chtige Badekultur der r��mischen Vorfahren an diesem Standort anzukn��pfen und eine Revitalisierung des Badekults in den Phlegr��ischen Feldern einleiten., In the heart of the phlegraean fields, situated in a beatiful natural bay, lays the italian town of Pozzuoli. It is a town with a lot of layers and rich of history, but having the best times long time ago in the past. Once it has been a a prosperous economic centre in the antique mediterranean area, as well as a popular resort town for the roman upper-class because of the numerous hot springs in the surrounding phlegraean fields. Today the townscape is shaped by the overlapping which occurred during the years. Roman ruins building the foundation of anonymous modern residential buildings without a specific interaction between them. Up on the hill, above the harbour, equipped with an incredible view over the bay of Pozzuoli, there are still some impressive remains of the antique roman bath of Terme di Nettuno. The purpose of this thesis is to reclaim the history of the roman bath and therefore develope an architectural project, which disposes precisely on the given conditions and is integrated perfectly in the heterogenous surroundings. So the grand roman bathing culture at this site should be revitalized.

Die kleine Stadt von Pozzuoli erz��hlt eine sehr komplexe Geschichte durch Schichten, ��berlappungen und Leeren der Textur, die die r��mischen Reste ab und zu zeigen lassen. Aus geologisch- und anthropologisch-historischen Gr��nden wurden im Laufe der Zeit alle antiken Sch��tze abgedeckt und oftmals als parasit��re wertlose Elemente betrachtet, umbebaut, zerst��rt und vergessen. Das unvermeidbare Ph��nomen des Bradisismus zusammen mit der Industrialisierung und dem Massentourismus hat n��mlich w��hrend der letzten Jahrhunderte die idyllische Bucht der Phlegr��ischen Felder stark verwandelt und sein eigenes Herz zu einem anonymen peripheren Hafen der gro��en Metropolregion von Neapel herabgesetzt. Durch eine sorgf��ltige und analytisch einleitende Studie ist das Ziel dieser Arbeit die Entwicklung eines architektonischen Projekts, das sich neben einer funktionalen und typologischen ��bungsarbeit, als Ausgangspunkt einer sp��rbaren Revitalisierung des antiken Flairs der r��mischen Stadt setzen kann., The small city of Pozzuoli tells its complex story through layers, overlapping and urban voids, which show from time to time its ancient roman roots. The inevitable phenomenon of bradyseism, together with the industrialization and mass-tourism, has strongly transformed the idyllic phlegraean bay and has downgraded its own heart into an anonymous suburban port of the great metropolitan area of Naples. In the course of time all the ancient treasures has been covered and often regarded as a parasitic, worthless element, modified, destroyed and forgotten. Through a careful and analytical preliminary study, the aim of this thesis is to develop an architectural project which, in addition to a functional and typological exercise, can serve as a starting point for a noticeable revitalization of the lost ancient flair.

The frame of the 'signs': Phlegraean coast and 'tourist city' between story and historical reality. Studying the Phlegraean Fields implies to value the material and immaterial representation of these places, whose 'tale' regards the shaping of local identities and of the tourist town, the construction of their image, the interweave between myth and publicity. We would like to show a plastically visible identity linked to the places but projected beyond them in a broader Mediterranean contest and in a larger framework of relations. Silent voices and stolen memory, semantic fractures between tourist and social imaginary, localism are placed in this scenery. The invention of the tourist town involves narrative frames of monumental signs, qualitative perceptions of space, iconographic and semantic changes of the visual heritage. In our point of view this 'fabric of signs' is crucial to understand this reality. Our intent is to highlight the importance of this fabric with its 'grammar' and its interpretative codes. We would like to focus on the town of Pozzuoli and on his surrondings, with a proposal that comes from studies, surveys and empirical researches.

Le caratteristiche salienti del tempio di Roma e Augusto a Ostia vengono passate in rassegna alla luce della recente edizione, mettendo in rilievo progressi e punti critici nella nostra conoscenza di esso. Facendo propria la proposta di datazione del tempio nella tarda età augustea, si tenta di definire i meccanismi che portarono alla celebrazione dell’impero nascente negli spazi civici di alcune città portuali dell’Italia antica (Ostia, Pozzuoli, Terracina, Pola), sottolineando elementi comuni così come differenze specifiche, e individuando nella fase successiva alla morte di Gaio Cesare (4 d.C.) un possibile momento decisivo per la definizione e l’orientamento di tali interventi di trasformazione della panoplia monumentale delle città dell’impero. The most relevant features of the temple of Rome and Augustus at Ostia are reviewed in the light of the recent edition, highlighting progress and critical points in our knowledge of it. The probable date of the temple in the late Augustan era provides the starting point to try and establish the mechanisms that led to the celebration of the newborn empire in the civic spaces of some port cities of ancient Italy (Ostia, Pozzuoli, Terracina, Pola), emphasizing common elements as well as specific differences, and identifying in the years following the death of Gaius Caesar (AD 4) a possible turning point for the definition and orientation of these projects, aimed at transforming the monumental panoply of the cities of the empire.

Le célèbre traité balnéothérapique des Bains de Pouzzoles (De Balneis Puteolanis) a été rédigé par Pierre d’Eboli au début du règne de Frédéric II. Ce texte latin versifié a bénéficié d’une large diffusion à la fin du Moyen Âge. Il a jusqu’ici été essentiellement étudié du point de vue de l’histoire de l’art, et secondairement, de l’histoire de la médecine. On tente ici de le réinsérer dans l’histoire textuelle de la Campanie médiévale, afin d’en préciser la date de rédaction et de suggérer ses rapports avec divers textes connus ou négligés de la tradition médiolatine sud-italienne. The so-called Baths of Pozzuoli (De Balneis Puteolanis) are one of the most famous medieval balneotherapy treaties. This Latin versified text was created during the youth of Frederick II by Peter of Eboli. It was broadly diffused in the last centuries of the Middle Age. It has already been well studied, but these studies concerned above all art history, secondarily medieval medicine. I try here to integrate further this versified treaty in the textual history of late medieval Campany, in order to discuss its redaction time, and to suggest its links with known and not-so-well known texts of the south-Italian Medieval Latin tradition.

2011 - 2012 Nella notte tra il 24 e 25 agosto del 79 d.C. villaggi e città vennero distrutti e migliaia di persone persero la vita per l' improvvisa eruzione del Vesuvio. Le rovine di Pompei ed Ercolano, sepolte e conservate dai prodotti di quell' eruzione, ci mostrano una istantanea della vita di duemila anni fa ma ci portano anche ad immaginare quale ansia e quale terrore abbiano provato le persone in quel momento. Ancora oggi le eruzioni vulcaniche provocano morte e distruzione in tutto il pianeta ma, rispetto agli inizi del primo millennio tanto è stato fatto per capire il meccanismo che regola questi eventi catastro ci. L' obiettivo dei geo sici è quello di prevedere eventuali eruzioni vulcaniche attraverso lo studio di segnali premonitori, se ce ne sono. A questo scopo negli anni tra il 2004 e il 2006 è stata istallata una rete di dilatometri nei Campi Flegrei, sul Vesuvio e sull' isola di Stromboli, mentre nel periodo 2008-2009 nei Campi Flegrei è stata istallata una rete di inclinometri a base lunga. L' obiettivo di questa tesi è lo studio delle deformazioni lente del suolo come e etto dell' intrusione di magma all' interno della camera magmatica dei Campi Flegrei ed una analisi statistica degli sciami di esplosioni che si veri cano sull' isola di Stromboli. Nel prosieguo del lavoro è stata data una descrizione dei dilatometri da pozzo di tipo Sacks-Evertson e degli inclinometri a base lunga. L' utilizzo di questi strumenti segue il modello del campo delle deformazioni nel range delle basse frequenze monitorando il tensore delle deformazioni nelle sue componenti non diagonali, per le inclinazioni pure (inclinometri) e le sue componenti diagonali, per le deformazioni (dilatometri). E' stato dato un largo spazio ai fenomeni che regolano le deformazioni della crosta terrestre facendo un' ampia digressione sulla teoria dell' elasticità e sulla teoria che regola le maree. E' stata fatta, inoltre, una analisi statistica degli sciami di esplosioni del vulcano Stromboli in tre periodi distinti usando i dati registrati da sismometri di tipo Lennartz e Guralp. Successivamente è stato fatto un confronto tra questi dati sismici con i dati dilatometrici registrati da un dilatometro, anch' esso di tipo Sacks-Evertson, istallato sull' isola di Stromboli. Per il presente lavoro, partendo da un inedito dettaglio stratigrafico dell’area dei Granai Imperiali, curato nel 1986 da uno degli autori (L.L.), è stato effettuato un rilevamento approfondito dell’area circostante il Serapeo, che ha consentito di recuperare nuovi dati stratigrafici dai pochi tagli esposti. Obiettivo di questa prima fase del lavoro è stato ricostruire in maniera completa l’assetto geo-vulcanologico dell’area, alla luce degli effetti dei ripetuti eventi bradisismici che la hanno interessata. Si è voluto, inoltre, riproporre frammenti di una letteratura poco nota riguardante il Tempio di Serapide il cui ruolo nel contesto geologico era stato già ritenuto importantissimo da Charles Lyell alla metà del XIX secolo. Un ulteriore obiettivo del lavoro è quello di diffondere, per la prima volta, la cronistoria del rinvenimento dei Granai Imperiali di Pozzuoli, resti archeologici che oggi giacciono sotto un manto di asfalto in seguito a decisioni scientificamente poco oculate prese a suo tempo dalla Soprintendenza Archeologica delle province di Napoli e Caserta. A riguardo sono descritti i fatti accaduti nel 1986, corredati da una documentazione integrale ed originale, nella speranza che in futuro non vengano più perpetrati danni simili sia al patrimonio geologico dei Campi Flegrei sia all’affascinante mondo dell’archeologia.

Il saggio ricostruisce la storia urbana di Pozzuoli dalla fondazione della colonia greca all'età contemporanea.

Nell'ambito della più ampia ricerca condotta da Buccaro sulla struttura urbana del rione Terra a Pozzuoli dalle origini al viceregno, nel testo vengono indagati i rapporti tra l'evoluzione del centro storico puteolano in epoca medioevale e il repertorio dell'iconografia della città della prima età moderna, in cui è possibile leggere le trasformazioni più significative dell'impianto urbano e del patrimonio edilizio nel corso di quei secoli. Lo studio propone quindi nuove considerazioni sulla struttura urbana e sul patrimonio edilizio del rione Terra, in una delicata fase di trasformazione dell'originario impianto greco-romano.

A seguito della ricerca storico-urbanistica condotta sul Rione Terra a Pozzuoli dal gruppo di studiosi coordinato da A. Buccaro, l'autore ricostruisce l'intera vicenda evolutiva del centro antico puteolano, sottolineando i rapporti tra l'archeologia urbana e le stratificazioni successive all'età antica e recuperando le tracce delle architetture significative. Il testo fa il punto sulle fonti disponibili sull'argomento, arricchendole di nuove considerazioni riferibili agli studi condotti dal gruppo pluridisciplinare di esperti impegnato sul tema.

Sull’esempio del palazzo che il viceré don Pedro di Toledo volle farsi costruire dopo l’eruzione del 1538, furono realizzati a Pozzuoli molti edifici nobiliari. Le stratificazioni subite nel tempo rendono tuttavia spesso difficile risalire al primo proprietario e committente di tali opere, divenendo anche dubbie le attribuzioni dei progetti. L‘individuazione del palazzo di Antonio Doria, autore dell’imponente edificio genovese, nell’attuale palazzo Manganelli è stata possibile grazie alle indicazioni contenute in un testo seicentesco. Diverse le ipotesi attributive anche sull’autore di palazzo Maglione, caratterizzato da un portale mormandeo e da interessanti grottesche, in quanto altrettanto complessa è l’identificazione del proprietario, comunque legato al viceré, da individuarsi in Salvatore Spinelli, marchese di Fuscaldo o in Camillo Pignatelli, duca di Monteleone.
