Abstract
- Researchers from the National Research Council (CNR) in Pozzuoli, Italy, have been studying the use of plasmonic nanomaterials to remotely manipulate intracellular pathways in single cells. By using gold nanoprisms and near infrared irradiation, they were able to enhance tissue regeneration and stem cell activity in the small invertebrate Hydra vulgaris. The results suggest that heat emitting nanoparticles can control cell stemness and be targeted for regenerative medicine or wound healing strategies. This research has been peer-reviewed and published in Advanced Functional Materials. [Extracted from the article]
