Chronotypes play a crucial role in regulating sleep–wake cycles and overall health. The aim of this study was to investigate chronotype, sleep quality, polymorphisms of clock genes and the level of leptin in serum. We used standardized questionnaires to assess chronotype and sleep quality. Genetic analysis was performed to determine the selected clock gene polymorphism. Serum leptin level was measured by the Elisa method. The results showed that serum leptin concentration was elevated in women, as well as in men who had a high waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) and body mass index (BMI). The evidence indicated that younger students (<22 years old) were most likely to experience poor sleep quality. Nevertheless, our multivariate analysis revealed that young age and a morning-oriented chronotype were associated with better sleep quality. We noted that clock gene polymorphisms were present in 28.6% of the participants. Moreover, polymorphisms of PER1 c.2247C>T (rs2735611) and PER2 c.-12C>G (rs2304672) genes were associated with serum leptin level and chronotype, respectively. These findings provide insights into the relationships between chronotype, sleep quality, clock gene polymorphisms and obesity risk in biomedical students. Interactions between drugs are a common problem in Intensive Care Unit patients, as they mainly have a critical condition that often demands the administration of multiple drugs simultaneously. Antibiotics are among the most frequently used medications, as infectious diseases are often observed in ICU patients. In this review, the most important antibiotic–drug interactions, based on the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic mechanisms, were gathered together and described. In particular, some of the most important interactions with main groups of antibacterial drugs were observed in patients simultaneously prescribed oral anticoagulants, NSAIDs, loop diuretics, and valproic acid. As a result, the activity of drugs can be increased or decreased, as dosage modification might be necessary. It should be noted that these crucial interactions can help predict and avoid negative consequences, leading to better patient recovery. Moreover, since there are other factors, such as fluid therapy or albumins, which may also modify the effectiveness of antibacterial therapy, it is important for anaesthesiologists to be aware of them. The purpose of this article was to observe the relationship between the tourism movement and the economic development of island territories during the global economic crisis (2008-2010). The aim of the paper was also answer the questions: why did some island territories react differently to the global economic crisis and if the coefficient of variation is a good indicator for assessing the changes in tourism movement during crisis events. Countries that have larger tourism expenditures as a proportion of GDP had a weak relationship between changes in tourist arrivals and changes in GDP. The islands prone to the global economic crisis did not have a stronger correlation between changes in tourist arrivals and GDP. The coefficient of variation was a good measure to indicate the island regions that were characterized by major changes in the volume of tourist movements.

Introduction: Jerzy Majkowski was a Polish neurologist who made significant contributions to the field of neuroscience. Majkowski was a renowned physician and researcher who specialized in studying and treating movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and dystonia. Throughout his career, he was known for his innovative approaches to diagnosing and treating these complex conditions, and he was widely respected by his peers for his deep understanding of the brain and its functions. Aim: The purpose of our work is to introduce the reader to the person of Jerzy Majkowski. Material and methods: The work is based on the available literature. The search process resulted in the detection of relevant articles using valid keywords on electronic databases, including Embase, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library. Subsequently, 10 were identified as eligible for our review. Results and discussion: Jerzy ‘Czarny’ Majkowski, a Polish neurologist and neurophysiologist. During World War II, he joined the Polish Scouting Association, where he participated in the underground activities of the organization under the pseudonym Czarny. After the war, he studied medicine at Warsaw University and graduated in 1952. Majkowski was interested in epilepsy, electroencephalography, and neurophysiology and put forward several hypotheses based on his research. He was the author of about 500 scientific publications and edited 14 books. He was also the editor of several journals, including Epileptologia and the Journal of Epileptology. Conclusions: Majkowski’s work has helped to advance our understanding of neurological disorders, and his legacy continues to inspire future generations of scientists and physicians. The Cayman Islands are one of the SISODs, located in the Caribbean Sea, with a high number of foreign visitor arrivals and a GDP based to a large extent on tourism. They are also considered to be SITE islands and may even be characteristic of the subtype, PROFIT-SITE islands. The aim of the article is to provide an answer to the question of whether the increase in the number of tourist and one-day visitor arrivals1 had a positive impact on the creation of GDP in the Cayman Islands during the period 1983-2011. The hypothesis was that such a correlation should exist and it should be a strong positive correlation, but only between the increase in number of tourist arrivals and increase in GDP. The second question was: which year is the most economically affected by the increase in tourist and visitor arrivals (the same or the following year)? The hypothesis was that the biggest impact is recorded in the year in which the increase in tourist and visitor arrivals occurs (not in the following year). The third question was: has the global economic crisis affected the tourism sector in the Cayman Islands? The hypothesis was that the Cayman Islands were not as badly affected by the global economic crisis as other SISOD countries. The methods used by the author were literature analysis, data analysis and the Spearman correlation ratio.

Background: Multiple factors often cause hypotension in patients undergoing operations. The simultaneous presence of several detrimental factors tends to lower arterial pressure. Aim of the study: To investigate the specificity of intraoperative hypotension during general anesthesia after metamizole administration and describe this phenomenon based on a literature review. Case report: This report describes a patient who experienced a sudden drop in blood pressure after receiving metamizole, an agent commonly used for intraoperative pain management during general anesthesia. However, the drop in blood pressure was not accompanied by other symptoms, indicating that it was unlikely caused by additional factors. The patient was treated with a sympathomimetic agent. Conclusions: Metamizole is a relatively safe drug commonly used for optimal pain control in anesthesia practice. The occurrence of hypotension after its administration is an infrequent phenomenon, but proper monitoring and observation of patients' vital signs during infusions of this drug are essential. The author seeks an answer to the question whether a higher intensity of tourism movement is connected with a higher share of tourism in the economy in selected tropical island territories. With the use of the Spearman correlation coefficient, the existence of the average positive correlation between the intensity of tourism movement and the share of tourism in the economy has been determined. In the second part of paper, the author looks at the conditions which affect the role of tourism in the economy in proportion to the intensity of tourism movement. For this purpose, the Chi-square test and detailed case studies of chosen tropical islands are discussed.

The aim of the article is verification of possibility of use of UNEP isolation indicator for measuring isolation of tropical islands for tourism purposes. 30 tropical islands were included in the study. The correlation between intensity of tourism movement and isolation indicator by Spearman rank correlation was –0,46. More isolated islands have smaller intensity of tourism movement and less isolated have higher intensity of tourism movement ratio. But there are also exceptions from this rule – territories which are more isolated and with higher intensity of tourism movement such as Maldives and less isolated with the smaller intensity of tourism movement such as Sao Tome and Principe. UNEP isolation indicator is not ideal measure for tourism purposes.

Epidural anaesthesia involves the reversible interruption of nerve conduction by injecting local anaesthetic drugs into the epidural space in the spinal segment. The first epidural was described more than 100 years ago. Further development of this anaesthesia involved the introduction of more effective and safer anaesthetics, improved techniques for identifying the epidural space and administering drugs. Since the late 1970s, epidural anaesthesia has become the gold standard for pain management during labor. This article analyses the conditions for the development of caravan tourism in Western Australia. It describes caravan tourism within tourism in general, presents its development in Australia, and investigates the relationship between the distribution of tourism assets and the location of campsites. The article analyses the data on the distribution of natural and anthropogenic values and campsite bases. The point bonitation method was used, the most and least attractive areas of the state were indicated and, using the Pearson correlation ratio, it was shown that there is a significant relationship between the attractiveness of tourist areas and the distribution of camping fields in Western Australia. This article describes the natural, social and economic disadvantages of the development of tourism around the world. A review was also carried out of the basic indices describing volume of tourist traffic including the tourism intensity index, Baretje-Defert's index, Defert's index, and Charvat's index), in terms of their usage in measuring the level of threat of tourism-related disadvantages. Areas that are much more vulnerable to a magnitude of disadvantages associated with the development of tourism are indicated and an attempt is made to determine which of the disadvantages (social, economic or natural) pose the greatest threat to the tourist-receiving area. The concept of sustainable tourism and the possibility of solving the disadvantages problems was presented. In addition, an answer is sought to the question of which indices can describe and monitor the level of tourism development disadvantage in the social, economic and natural spheres.
