We study extremal properties of finite ultrametric spaces $X$ and related properties of representing trees $T_X$. The notion of weak similarity for such spaces is introduced and related morphisms of labeled rooted trees are found. It is shown that the finite rooted trees are isomorphic to the rooted trees of nonsingular balls of special finite ultrametric spaces. We also found conditions under which the isomorphism of representing trees $T_X$ and $T_Y$ implies the isometricity of ultrametric spaces $X$ and $Y$., Comment: 33 pages, 8 figures

The problem of longitudinal oscillations of an electric field and a charge polarization density in QED vacuum is considered. Within the framework of semiclassical analysis, we calculate time-periodic solutions of bosonized (1+1)-dimensional QED (massive Schwinger model). Applying the Bohr--Sommerfeld quantization condition, we determine the mass spectrum of charge-zero bound states (plasmons) which correspond in quantum theory to the found classical solutions. We show that the existence of such plasmons does not contradict any fundamental physical laws and study qualitatively their excitation in (3+1)-dimensional real world., Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures

A behavior of homeomorphisms of Orlicz classes in a closure of a domain is investigated. It is proved that above classes are equicontinuous in the closure of domains with some restrictions on it's boundaries provided that the corresponding inner dilatation of order $p$ has a majorant of finite mean oscillation at every point., Comment: in Russian

A metric space $X$ is rigid if the isometry group of $X$ is trivial. The finite ultrametric spaces $X$ with $|X| \geq 2$ are not rigid since for every such $X$ there is a self-isometry having exactly $|X|-2$ fixed points. Using the representing trees we characterize the finite ultrametric spaces $X$ for which every self-isometry has at least $|X|-2$ fixed points. We study the local behavior of the closed-open discrete maps of Orlich--Sobolev classes in ${\Bbb R}^n,$ $n\geqslant 3.$ It was found that these mappings $f$ have continuous extension in isolated point $x_0$ in $D\setminus\{x_0 \},$ as soon as their dilatation of order $p\in (n-1, n] $ has the majorant of class $FMO$ at said point, and moreover, limits set of mapping $f$ at $x_0$ and $\partial D$ are disjoint., Comment: 21 pages, in Russian

We consider electromagnetic nonlinear normal modes in cylindrical cavity resonators filled with a nonlinear nondispersive medium. The key feature of the analysis is that exact analytical solutions of the nonlinear field equations are employed to study the mode properties in detail. Based on such a nonperturbative approach, we rigorously prove that the total energy of free nonlinear oscillations in a distributive conservative system, such as that considered in our work, can exactly coincide with the sum of energies of the normal modes of the system. This fact implies that the energy orthogonality property, which has so far been known to take place only for linear oscillations and fields, can also be observed in the nonlinear oscillatory system., Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures

Let $\mathfrak{M}$ be a class of metric spaces. A metric space $Y$ is minimal $\mathfrak{M}$-universal if every $X\in\mathfrak{M}$ can be isometrically embedded in $Y$ but there are no proper subsets of $Y$ satisfying this property. We find conditions under which, for given metric space $X$, there is a class $\mathfrak{M}$ of metric spaces such that $X$ is minimal $\mathfrak{M}$-universal. We generalize the notion of minimal $\mathfrak{M}$-universal metric space to notion of minimal $\mathfrak{M}$-universal class of metric spaces and prove the uniqueness, up to an isomorphism, for these classes. The necessary and sufficient conditions under which the disjoint union of the metric spaces belonging to a class $\mathfrak{M}$ is minimal $\mathfrak{M}$-universal are found. Examples of minimal universal metric spaces are constructed for the classes of the three-point metric spaces and $n$-dimensional normed spaces. Moreover minimal universal metric spaces are found for some subclasses of the class of metric spaces $X$ which possesses the following property. Let $(X,d)$ be a finite ultrametric space. In 1961 E.C. Gomory and T.C. Hu proved the inequality $|Sp(X)|\leqslant |X|$ where $Sp(X)=\{d(x,y)\colon x,y \in X\}$. Using weighted Hamiltonian cycles and weighted Hamiltonian paths we give new necessary and sufficient conditions under which the Gomory-Hu inequality becomes an equality. We find the number of non-isometric $(X,d)$ satisfying the equality $|Sp(X)|=|X|$ for given $Sp(X)$. Moreover it is shown that every finite semimetric space $Z$ is an image under a composition of mappings $f\colon X\to Y$ and $g\colon Y\to Z$ such that $X$ and $Y$ are finite ultrametric space, $X$ satisfies the above equality, $f$ is an $\varepsilon$-isometry with an arbitrary $\varepsilon>0$, and $g$ is a ball-preserving map., Comment: 14 pages

The features of propagation of intense waves are of great interest for theory and experiment in electrodynamics and acoustics. The behavior of nonlinear waves in a bounded volume is of especial importance and, at the same time, is an extremely complicated problem. It seems almost impossible to find a rigorous solution to such a problem even for any model of nonlinearity. We obtain the first exact solution of this type. We present a new method for deriving exact solutions of the Maxwell equations in a nonlinear medium without dispersion and give examples of the obtained solutions that describe propagation of cylindrical electromagnetic waves in a nonlinear nondispersive medium and free electromagnetic oscillations in a cylindrical cavity resonator filled with such a medium., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures

We present a new class of exact self-similar solutions possessing cylindrical or spherical symmetry in Born-Infeld theory. A cylindrically symmetric solution describes the propagation of a cylindrical electromagnetic disturbance in a constant background magnetic field in Born-Infeld electrodynamics. We show that this solution corresponds to vacuum breakdown and the subsequent propagation of an electron-positron avalanche. The proposed method of finding exact analytical solutions can be generalized to the model of a spherically symmetric scalar Born-Infeld field in the ($n+1$)-dimensional Minkowski space-time. A master equation describing the evolution of averaged molecular state occupancies in molecular systems where alternation of molecular energy levels is caused by discrete dichotomous and trichotomous stochastic fields, is derived. This study is focused on the kinetics of quasi-isoenergetic transition processes in the presence of moderately high frequency stochastic field. A novel physical mechanism for temperature-independent transitions in flexible molecular systems is proposed. This mechanism becomes effective when the conformation transitions between quasi-isoenergetic molecular states take place. At room temperatures, stochastic broadening of molecular energy levels predominates the energy of low frequency vibrations accompanying the transition. This leads to a cancellation of the temperature dependence in the stochastically averaged rate constants. As examples, physical interpretations of the temperature-independent onset of P2X$_3$ receptor desensitization in neuronal membranes, as well as degradation of PER2 protein in embrionic fibroblasts, are provided., Comment: 36 pages, 3 figures

It was proved by Gomori and Hu in 1961 that for every finite nonempty ultrametric space $(X,d)$ the following inequality $|\Sp(X)|\leqslant |X|-1$ holds with $\Sp(X)=\{d(x,y):x,y \in X, x\neq y\}$. We characterize the spaces $X$, for which the equality in this inequality is attained by the structural properties of some graphs and show that the set of isometric types of such $X$ is dense in the Gromov-Hausdorff space of the compact ultrametric spaces., Comment: 26 pages, 1 figure, in Russian

Light-induced charge transmission through a molecular junction (molecular diode) is studied in the framework of a HOMO-LUMO model and in using a kinetic description. Expressions are presented for the sequential (hopping) and direct (tunneling) transient current components together with kinetic equations governing the time-dependent populations of the neutral and charged molecular states which participate in the current formation. Resonant and off-resonant charge transmission processes are analyzed in detail. It is demonstrated that the transient currents are associated with a molecular charging process which is initiated by photo excitation of the molecule. If the coupling of the molecule to the electrodes is strongly asymmetric the transient currents can significantly exceed the steady state current., Comment: 17 pages, 12 figures, accepted for publication in Chemical Physics

Many intriguing properties of driven nonlinear resonators, including the appearance of chaos, are very important for understanding the universal features of nonlinear dynamical systems and can have great practical significance. We consider a cylindrical cavity resonator driven by an alternating voltage and filled with a nonlinear nondispersive medium. It is assumed that the medium lacks a center of inversion and the dependence of the electric displacement on the electric field can be approximated by an exponential function. We show that the Maxwell equations are integrated exactly in this case and the field components in the cavity are represented in terms of implicit functions of special form. The driven electromagnetic oscillations in the cavity are found to display very interesting temporal behavior and their Fourier spectra contain singular continuous components. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of the existence of a singular continuous (fractal) spectrum in an exactly integrable system., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures
