Periodicals played increasingly an important role, particularly from the nineteenth century, within missionary circles. This paper focuses on the American Presbyterian Periodical, nur-e afshan (the refulgent light). The initial evidence presented here supports the argument that there were changes in its ownership and use over the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Initially edited by the Presbyterian missionary, Wherry, by the turn of the nineteenth century, the periodical reflected the broader change from missionary to native leadership in the Presbyterian Mission. The policy to gradually 'indigenise' the periodical went hand in hand with the native Christians replacing the missionaries as lead contributors and consumers. Nur has been dismissively described as a 'semi-secular' magazine, which undermines its significance as a forum for native agency and thought in the changing socio-political context of India. Based on archival documents and published reports, the paper presents the history of the journal Bibliotekar (Librarian) from its launch in 1948 until the end of the 20th century, when it temporarily ceased being published. The key challenges related to the conceptions and editorial policies of the journal, its cooperation with libraries, and the provision of thematically and formally diverse but high-quality and timely articles are analysed. There were also problems related to financing and the regular periodicity of the journal with which the editors were dealing all the time trying to maintain a periodical that would represent, guide, and improve all aspects of the profession and the professional association of librarians in Serbia. Some necessary adjustments to the unsteady systemic rules and ideologically informed working conditions of professional journal publishing in Serbia are also illuminated. As a tool for librarian(ship) formation and positioning in the wider fields of cultural and educational activities, national culture and science, the journal often faced insufficient financial support from state authorities, usually unable to obtain the necessary funds in other ways, thus always being in crisis. Moreover, as a professional informative and educational organ, the journal and its editorial board faced a lack of interest among the local public librarians and, accordingly, the lack of certain types of contributions, the uneven development of professional competencies, and the launch of competing serial publications within the Republic of Serbia and the common state. The archival material testifies to how the Serbian Library Association as the issuing body and the editorial boards tried and to some extent succeeded in overcoming or bypassing the mentioned and other obstacles to maintain the continuity of the publication with varying success for almost half a century, solve the issues of its distribution, and improve its professional and scientific importance. This article aimed to contribute with essential elements, as well as practical examples, so that academic in the area of Education can to be wary of and uncover these false publications and avoid the negative consequences of publicizing your studies in fraudulent vehicles. Thus, the main characteristics of predatory journals are discussed, such as the absence of editors, nonexistent or fraudulent indexing, false impact factors, scarcity or absence of information about physical address, as well as the exiguity of how the editorial process of the predatory journal occurs. Thus, several real examples are presented of how this type of fraud is operationalized to deceive potential authors. It is important to note that there are about 485 predatory journals listed in QUALIS, and some of them have received high grades, such as A1 and A2 in certain areas of knowledge. It is essential that research and education institutions reflect on the phenomenon and help guide their academics so that resources are not wasted on this type of publication, nor researchers and faculty members gain scores with illegitimate predatory publications. This paper explores the scholarship and intellectual contribution of the second series of World Order magazine, which published from 1966 until 2008 over 38 volumes. In so doing, I provide a narrative overview of the main themes and papers in World Order, and by extension some of the topics being discussed in the worldwide Bahā'ī community. This is complemented by interviews with past World Order editors, who provided information on papers, topics and issues that generated the most interest and print runs, a listing of the number of pieces and articles by topic, and a questionnaire survey of those attending an academic Bahā'ī conference. I compare themes identified in the overview with contemporary discourses over a similar period drawing on surveys of textbook and journal contents in similar areas. In addition, I summarise available information on the most cited (from Google Scholar) and downloaded (from Bahā'ī Library online) World Order papers, and hence those contributions with the most impact using these quantitative approaches. I show that Abizadeh's paper on 'Ethnicity, Race, and a Possible Humanity', which discusses how the concept of the oneness of humanity can potentially address racial problems, is the most cited paper, and Stokes's paper on 'The Story of Joseph in Five Religious Traditions', a piece on comparative religion, is the most downloaded. Overall, the most cited and downloaded papers are indicative of the breadth of topics covered in World Order, with pieces on political philosophy, law, education, history, theology, and psychology. The number of articles and editorials on social issues, such as racial justice, women's rights, and environmentalism, is one indication that the Bahā'ī community was at the forefront of thinking about social action. The Young Turks are the group that continued the political opposition movement against Abdulhamid II under the umbrella of the Ottoman Union and Progress Committee. On the one hand, the Young Turks wrote Turkish publications aimed at influencing the Ottoman society against Abdulhamid II, on the other hand, they published publications in foreign languages to introduce their intellectual structures to the European public and to explain the framework of their opposition. England, whence they expected political support for the dethronement of Abdulhamid II, was one of the countries that the Young Turks gave importance to. The Young Turks felt the need to publish a publication in English in order to effectively explain to the British politicians and society that the reign of Abdulhamid II should be ended and that they should support them. In this study, the periodical called English Supplement to "the Osmanli", which was published as a single issue by the Young Turks, will be examined and the importance of this publication for the Young Turk opposition will be pointed out. This study aimed to apply a bibliometric analysis of the Erciyes University Journal of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (EÜVFD) in terms of various criteria. The material of the study consisted of a total of 506 academic studies (research articles, reviews and case reports) published in 47 issues between 2004-2021 years. Number of studies published in the journal by years, type, institution and unit of the corresponding author, publication period, review/evaluation period, number of pages, number of authors, postgraduate thesis summary and previous presentation status, the research material used (animal species), the number of keywords, the number of tables/graphics used, the number of pictures/figures, the number of sources and the language of publications were given as descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage). The publication, press and evaluation periods were compared with Kruskal-Wallis Test. According to results, EÜVFD received a total of 345 citations (68%) in 18-year publication life. Review, press and publication time were shorter than four, six and 10 months, respectively. An average of 28.1 publications are published annually in the journal, the average number of authors per publication is three, 40.1% of the corresponding authors are Erciyes University Veterinary Faculty members, the highest number of publications are from Division of Clinical Sciences (27.7%) and Department of Surgery (10.5%), 30.3% of the study material consists of ruminants, the highest number of studies are research articles (61.7%), and it has been determined that 20.4% of the publications are in English language. As a conclusion, it is understood that EÜVFD is a scientific journal that complies with the publication policy, receives publications from the field of veterinary medicine and from different units, all stages are followed meticulously, and has been published for 18 years and scanned in the field index. Considering all the achievements of the journal, strong impressions have been gained that it is getting closer to its goal of being scanned by the Science Citation Index (SCI) and will reach this goal in a short time. The article offers a re-assessment of a little-known novel by Eyvind Johnson, Nittonhundrasjutton (1930–31), which was published purely in periodical form and has received very limited critical attention hitherto. The article approaches the novel through the theoretical lens of the widening and softening tendencies that characterise current understandings of the field of modernist literature. The appreciation of Johnson's novel is informed, furthermore, by new insights into the role of interwar modernism in registering and responding to the afterlife of war as well as the spectre of a future war. The article argues that the sidelining of the novel in the reception of Johnson's work is attributable more to its unusual publication mode than to any lack of artistic merit. After providing perspectives on the circumstances that surrounded Johnson's creation of the novel, the article goes on to substantiate and scrutinise the novel's modernist display of innovative temporalities and spatialities as well as its satirical sophistication. The article concludes that the novel deserves recognition for its original depiction of the fractured reality of wartime as it is lived and felt hundreds of kilometres from the core war zone. Many Japanese literary texts have been translated recently into Bangla. However, nobody has yet identified the first translation of Japanese literary text in the periodicals until today. The purpose of this paper is first to map the early phase of Japanese literature in Bangla periodicals; second, it attempts to distinguish the first piece of Japanese literature in Bangla; and third, it strives to ascertain the trends in interpreting Japanese literature in the second half of the 19th century. At least four pieces of literature are unearthed for the first time in this article. Despite not embracing the original Japanese or English name in the title in Bangla, Gonpachikomurasakihiyokufun (The Loves of Gompachi and Komurasaki) and Hone Kawa (Bones and Ribs) became the earliest Japanese literary specimens in Bangla. Colonial influence and preference for works of religious significance pertinent to Bengal society -- are pinned down as the trends in interpreting Japanese literature in periodicals in the 19th century. This article examines the place and significance of the French language in the development of Ottoman Jewish press before the end of the War of Independence in 1922. To this end, in light of the sources available, we have tried to give general information about the periodicals published solely or partially in French and their publishers. We also provided a panorama of developments after the proclamation of the republic in an sub-section. The term "Jewish Press" implies the periodicals (newspapers and magazines) published by Ottoman Jews within the borders of today's Turkey (Aydın, Edirne, Istanbul and Izmir) intended to address the Jewish community. In addition, we have included some periodicals aimed at the general readership into our study. The publishers and/or editors of these periodicals were Ottoman Jews, and the French-speaking Jewish community of the Ottoman state followed these publications with great interest. However, we have not included the procedures required to obtain official permits and licenses for publishing a periodical into our study. We also had to leave the issues related to censorship and press legislation out, since they were not specific to publications in French, but were general rules applied to all Ottoman press. Objective: To describe the Peruvian scientific output on COVID-19 up to January 31, 2021. Materials and methods: We carried out a bibliometric study using two databases (MEDLINE and SciELO). We included original or short original articles with at least one author with Peruvian institutional affiliation. Scientific output was described according to: institution, approval by a Research Ethics Committee, registration in the platforms established by regulations, scientific journals in which they were published, research funding, and Peruvian collaboration networks. Results: A total of 106 articles were analyzed, only three (2.8%) were clinical trials. Of the top 10 institutions with the highest scientific output, only two did not belong to the education sector. A total of 53 (50.0%) articles had no information regarding ethical aspects or it was not explicitly stated whether or not it was approved by a Research Ethics Committee. Only 8 (7.7%) of 104 articles were registered in PRISA; 12 (11.3%) articles were published in Peruvian journals. Regarding funding, 71 (67.0%) investigations did not specify the source or they were self-financed. We found international collaboration in 70 publications (66.0%). Conclusions: The most productive Peruvian institutions are found in Lima. Half of the articles did not state ethical aspects in any part of the document. Almost all of the studies were not registered on the platforms established by regulations. In more than half of the articles the source of funding is not stated or they were self-financed. This article explores the vocabulary used for shame in a children's periodical from Lahore, in colonial North India. Following decades of reconfigurations of norms of behaviour and of akhlaq (moral, ethical) literature, Phūl ('Flower') was one of the first periodicals for children, and one with the longest run. Using emotions, it aimed to entertain as much as to educate the young Urdu-reading public. Thanks to a careful examination of every weekly number through the year 1910 – the first full year of publication –, the objective is to highlight the various meanings and uses of shame in early twentieth-century Urdu children's literature. In Phūl, shame was consistently expressed by the term sharm, with only rare exceptions. This conspicuously contrasts with the resort to diverse terms for contemporary representations of community shame and dishonour in the male public sphere since the late nineteenth century. Through typical animal stories, moral tales and illustrations, this article highlights how contributors used shame to monitor children's emotions and behaviour. Despite its striking homogeneity of vocabulary, however, sharm involved a full palette of nuances, from the isolating emotion elicited by transgression (the 'blackness' of shame) to the very condition of respect, without which social cohesion was impossible. I argue that, crucial for the enculturation of morality, good manners, and gendered expectations, sharm was more semantically capacious than what we label as shame in English, notably by encompassing aspects which some, in Ruth Benedict's and Eric R. This article is the result of documentary research on primary sources undertaken in the April 2020 editions of the denominational periodicals Revista Adventista, Revista Vida e Saúde and in the special edition of Revista Sinais dos Tempos. We accessed the editions using the descriptors coronavirus, covid-19 and pandemic, which had a total of one hundred and seven occurrences. The objective of the research is to present the scientific and religious discourses put into circulation in the journals, in order to indicate the relationship between science and religion. It is worth mentioning that the data resulting from it receive an analysis treatment in this text, with theoretical references Even-Zohar (2013), Martino (2003), Bardin (2011), Chartier (2003) with regard to editorial strategies and Barbour (2004) about the relationship between science and religion. This article argues that the Lowell Offering (1840–1845) should be read as a publication that actively cultivated a transatlantic readership by publishing increasingly English-focused content. It explores how, under Harriet Farley and Harriot Curtis's direction, the magazine transformed from a novelty publication that was famous abroad into one that saw itself as a participant in transatlantic conversations. In particular, this article examines Farley's monthly editorials and their increasing focus on international readers. This text, entitled (Legal Definition of the Professional Journalist: A Comparative Legal Study of the Constitutive Elements of Professionalism in Tunisian Law), aims at developing research and enriching the theoretical and epistemological reflection on the question of the status of the Tunisian professional journalist from a comparative law perspective, especially the media French law which has strongly inspired the Tunisian legislator, editor of the two decrees: 115 on the Freedom of the press and publishing and 116 on the Freedom of the audiovisual press and the creation of the High Authority regulating the audio-visual media. The Islamic press in Turkey started at the beginning of the 20th century as a reaction to the secularist Young Turks' revolution of 1908. In the Republican period, Sufi orders and other religious communities maintained internal communication via periodicals despite being interrupted by the 1960, 1971 and 1980 coup d'etats. In the 1990s, the first private Islamic TV channels were opened and soon were targeted by the Turkish Armed Forces through mainstream media in the run-up to the 1997 military memorandum. Only after Erdoğan came to power did the Islamic media find favourable conditions to flourish, lining up with Erdoğan's AKP. This paper analyses the visual products that strengthened the image of Chile as a tourist destination between 1933 and 1973. Although their ultimate objective was to promote travel in the territory, what they actually achieved was to strengthen the country's position as a young nation. Through a mainly iconographic analysis based on the images in tourist publications edited by Ferrocarriles del Estado (State Railways), En viaje (Travelling) and Guía del veraneante (Summer Vacationer's Guide), the text attempts to address the tourist country image built by such documents. A scientific article including limitations, their results and the ways how these results can be reduced has invaluable importance in terms of researchers, readers, society, scientific progress and the quality of scientific papers. However, in our country, particularly in the field of health, theoretical knowledge on this subject is rather limited. The purpose of this review article is to demonstrate the importance of limitations section in scientific articles, its characteristics, what kind of limitations researchers may encounter in scientific research process, and the ways that can be followed to overcome them. It appears that limitations section is mostly ignored; either not written at all or incomplete or poorly written in the present articles in the field of health including the ones in our country. Moreover, there is no information about the results caused by the limitations and the ways to reduce or eliminate them. This situation adversely affects the validity, reliability and generalizability of the research findings. Such a result is related to the knowledge, writing skills, perspectives, and approaches of the authors, the editorial policy of periodicals and the assessment of editors and peer reviewers. If there are limitations in scientific articles and graduation theses, they must absolutely be written and guidelines and instructions regarding correct writing of this section should be developed. As national-socialism established its domain during the 1930's, many German citizens - especially Jews, artists, politicians and intellectuals - were compelled to leave Germany. Groups of exiled people were formed in several countries, aiming to help each other with the difficulties of exile and also to engage themselves in activities against Nazism, fighting for liberty in their nation. One of the most important means to articulate this intellectual resisting movement was the publication of periodicals. Fecr-i Ati Community was established in 20 March 1909 and with its announcment of the Manifesto had been introduced to public .The Community although had stated at the initial period of their foundation to publish a journal by the same name, in the Manifesto the journal of Servet-i Fünun was announced to be the journal in use.. On the other hand, the members of the Community had also used other journals as a means of publication organ.. One of them is the Musavver Muhit. When the content of the journal was investigated in depth, the relationship between the journal and the Community was seen clearly. Besides, the relationship between the journal and its quality was seen; therefore, contrary to the understanding in the literary history, it was understood that the Community had carried out a significant quality of activities in having completed its foundation in the months followed. The objective of this article is to reflect about "The Mystery of Marie Rogêt", the second detective story by the North American writer Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849). While designing hypothesis to elucidate the crime, the detective Dupin falls into serious contradictions and incoherence, similarly to what occurs with the periodicals which he criticizes for the same reason. Such contradictions raise analytical questions of huge interest for the study of the form of the detective short story, then recently originated, especially if considered their relations with the short story's historical context of production. Objective: To compare methodological characteristics of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published in higher vs. lower impact Core Clinical Journals. Study Design and Setting: We searched MEDLINE for RCTs published in 2007 in Core Clinical Journals. We randomly sampled 1,140 study reports in a 1:1 ratio in higher (five general medicine journals with the highest total citations in 2007) and lower impact journals. Results: Four hundred sixty-nine RCTs proved eligible: 219 in higher and 250 in lower impact journals. RCTs in higher vs. lower impact journals had larger sample sizes (median, 285 vs. 39), were more likely to receive industry funding (53% vs. 28%), declare concealment of allocation (66% vs. 36%), declare blinding of health care providers (53% vs. 41%) and outcome adjudicators (72% vs. 54%), report a patient-important primary outcome (69% vs. 50%), report subgroup analyses (64% vs. 26%), prespecify subgroup hypotheses (42% vs. 20%), and report a test for interaction (54% vs. 27%); P < 0.05 for all differences. Conclusion: RCTs published in higher impact journals were more likely to report methodological safeguards against bias and patient-important outcomes than those published in lower impact journals. The community centers, which had played an important role to make the revolutions take root after the Republic has been established, were established on 19 February 1962 in 14 branches with the decision taken by the Republican Public Party during its III. Great Assembly that was held on 10-18 May 1931. Zonguldak Community Center was established on 24 June 1932 and began to work with nine branches. Zonguldak Community Center had important contributions both in the historical, cultural, social, economic life of Zonguldak and during the process of spreading and adopting the Turkish Revolution. In 1832, several British periodicals surfaced with the advent of new print technologies. Sponsored by the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, Charles Knight created and published one of the first cheap periodicals for the masses, The Penny Magazine (1832-1845). Knight has been studied for his contributions to publishing history, but not for his specific attention to animals. Using state-of-the-art print technologies, the journal fused picture and word to create a respectable publication that used natural history to entice subscribers. Reading about animals in The Penny Magazine was both entertaining and educational. Pet keeping was emerging as synonymous with middle-class status, and some animals were valued as companions and curiosities. In the early nineteenth century, most illustrated zoology texts came from naturalists who had circumnavigated the globe in search of new species. These books contained lavishly detailed lithographic prints, but the weekly Penny Magazine provided richly engraved woodcuts of the same topics and it was accessible and affordable. Knight's journal shows a fascination with exotic and domestic species that can clearly be seen through the copious illustrations and articles. The periodical reveals animals in scientific as well as emotional states, paralleling the duality of thought emerging at the end of the Romantic era. Knight also used animals to define the conditions of the working classes and to suggest progress through commercial enterprises and personal awareness. The journal also introduced readers to the importance of the environment and the need for stewardship when collecting and housing animals. Clearly Knight used zoology as a tool for motivating autodidactic learning, urging the working-class to develop moral behavior, and for encouraging subscriptions. We can also find Knight's respect for all living beings in his effort to correctly portray animals and create an understanding of their importance to society. A variety of relationships between human and animal are portrayed: from the political to the humane, and from the curious to the exploitation of foreign and domestic creatures. Ultimately, The Penny Magazine represents early nineteenth-century efforts to disseminate zoological information that contributed to a future cultural understanding and ethical consideration of animals. This article investigates the profound shift that occurred in turn-of-the-last-century art criticism with the death of the mass-audience Victorian periodical and the rise of little magazines. While scholarly attention has frequently focused on the latter phenomenon, the demise of key art journals from the nineteenth century, such as the Art Journal and Magazine of Art, has received far less scholarly attention. This essay seeks to rectify this situation and offers an innovative methodological approach inspired by the work of Helene Roberts, namely, analyzing the relationships between art periodical publishing and the art market. The Dorothy Novelette and its supplements were part of a sub-genre of weekly penny periodicals which were dominant in British publishing in the last 25 years of the nineteenth century. The evolution of the Dorothy from a 'complete story' novelette into an early modern women's magazine during the 1890s resulted as its features changed to attract readers and keep up sales. Examining the depiction of time as a locus of this perpetual change in the Dorothy reveals its evolution by its reflection of these wider perceptual changes. This article is a study on final cleaning of wastewater in an experimental hydrophytic treatment plant. Wastewater was previously treated in a municipal wastewater treatment plant loaded with a significant amount of brewery sewage. This paper presents research results of the load of basic pollutants, a comparison between the effectiveness of treatment in vertical and horizontal flow plots and continuously or periodically flooded plots, the influence of brewery sewage inflow dynamics on both treatment effectiveness and treated sewage reaction. The results of the analysis indicate that the constructed wetland system is a relatively effective method. During the period of last two centuries, Westernization is one of the most effective phenomena which influenced Turkish State and Society in terms of politics and socio-cultural life. This modernization movement starting in the eighteenth century caused an intellectual quarrel up to now. Actually, Sebilurresad had lived a very wealthy intellectual life from the time of the second Constitutional period in 1908 up to 1965. Our well known periodical is considered as a laboratory of the Turkish intellectual life because of its publication period containing the Constitution, the Balkan Wars, the First World War and the Republic. The EXPERIENTIAL, PERIODICAL, and HABITUAL aspects, which I subsume under the term of occurrence aspect, have a grammatical realization in the Yi languages (Tibeto-Burman languages spoken in South- west China) that interacts with the internal structure of the clause in a complex way. The occurrence aspect does not react significantly with the actionality type of a situation (Aktionsart), which turns out to be irrelevant here. Rather, the occurrence aspect interacts with what I call the occurrence type of a clause which describes the frequency pattern with which a situation is semantically encoded to occur in the world. Thee factors determine the occurrence type of a clause: (i) the frequency of the occurrence (e.g. paucal, spasmodic, recurrent); (ii) the modality of the occurrence (e.g. necessary, possible); (iii) the reference time frame for the occurrences. These three axes yield different sets of values that can combine with each other to form a complex typology. After analyzing a sample of representative sentences, I propose a rearrangement of the aspect family. I distinguish between temporal and quantificational aspect. The EXPERIENTIAL, PERIODICAL, and HABITUAL aspects belong to the quantificational branch, whereas the mainstream PERFECTIVE and the PROGRESSIVE aspects are members of the temporal type. This article uses Georg Simmel's writing on subjectivity and the metropolis to examine a magazine of the 1890s. Simmel's account is of an internally experienced present in the rapidly changing metropolis. The article analyzes an innovative periodical of the 1890s, the Sketch, and its editor. It is located in the 'up-to-date'. Its focus is on leisure, the individual and a glamorized femininity. The presentation of this material in new journalistic forms, the photograph, the interview and the sketch are discussed. Solitary wave propagation behavior within a granular crystal chain is fundamentally important for impact wave mitigation. Here, we study the propagation behavior of traveling waves in a one-dimensional (1D) mixed chain of stainless-steel and polytetrafluoroethylene dimer hollow spherical particles. The formation and propagation of a unique, highly nonlinear, solitary wave is observed. To have an in-depth understanding of the wave propagation behavior, we establish numerical theoretical models to describe the wave behavior and agree well with the experiment. We also discover that different configurations of dimer wall thicknesses largely influence not only the nonlinear contact interaction between neighboring spheres but also the physical relation of wave velocity V s and dynamic force F m. The influence of different ratios of elastic moduli and densities in a dimer is also studied.
