Abstract

As national-socialism established its domain during the 1930's, many German citizens - especially Jews, artists, politicians and intellectuals - were compelled to leave Germany. Groups of exiled people were formed in several countries, aiming to help each other with the difficulties of exile and also to engage themselves in activities against Nazism, fighting for liberty in their nation. One of the most important means to articulate this intellectual resisting movement was the publication of periodicals. This paper aims to briefly present the characteristics of two of these magazines, namely, Freies Deutschland and Internationale Literatur, highlighting their ideological approach to the politics and arts.
