Background and Objectives: Hand hygiene is considered the most effective measure to prevent and control hospital infections. This study aimed to determine the level of hand hygiene compliance and to compare the level of hand hygiene compliance after implementation of educational interventions in Taleghani hospital in Tabriz. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was used in the total of six wards in the hospital. The study sample included different professional groups. The sample size with 95% confidence coefficient and accounting for 10% loss of the samples was calculated 25 people for each group. In total, 300 people (150 for before and 150 for after phase of interventions) by non-probability convenience sampling were selected. The observers noted the number of potential opportunities for hand hygiene and the number of occasions on which hand hygiene was actually taken. Data collection took place over six months during the period of September 2014 to March 2015. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistical methods and McNemar test using SPSS 17 Software. Results: We observed 1465 opportunities for hand hygiene before interventions and 1457 opportunities after interventions. The overall compliance improved progressively from 42.8% to 57.3% (p Conclusion: In this study, educational interventions significantly improved adherence to the hand hygiene protocol. Although some interventions to improve compliance have been successful, none had achieved lasting improvement. Therefore, the necessity of continuous audits and feedback to personnel is recommended.

Background and Objectives : Job satisfaction is one of the most important variables in organizational behavior and the key variable in organizational researches and theories as well. The aim of present investigation was to determine the level of job satisfaction among health sector staff of Tabriz Taleghani Educational Hospital. Material and Methods : This cross-sectional study was performed in 2014. Health sector staffs of Taleghani Educational Hospital were studied through census method. Data collection tool was a questionnaire based on previous studies and consisted of 3 parts: demographic information (7 items), job satisfaction (21 questions) and factors related to employee dissatisfaction (10 items). After collecting and entering data into IBM SPSS software, independent t tests, chi-square and ANOVA were applied. Results : The highest level of job satisfaction was in the field of relationship with colleagues and lowest level of job satisfaction was related to salary and benefits. The most common cause of employee dissatisfaction was pressure and stressful working environment and the least cause was the improper distribution of employees based on workload . Conclusion : According to the findings, the majority of job satisfaction among staff was at low and medium-level. Since job satisfaction is an important factor in the performance and quality of services provided by the hospital staff, it is recommended that managers and officials pay attention to defects and shortcomings and remove barriers.

Background and Objectives : Information about nosocomial infections (NIs) is necessary for both appropriate management and establishment of preventative measures in hospitals. Neonates admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) are at high-risk of developing nosocomial infection. The aim of this study was to determine the mortality rate of nosocomial infections and the distribution of pathogens among newborns who were admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit in Taleghani educational and treatment center, Tabriz. Material and Methods : This was a cross-sectional study. The sampling method was census. The inclusion criteria were dead infants who developed signs of infection after 48 hours of hospitalization and those who had symptoms at the admission were excluded. Data were collected through hospital records and were analyzed using Excel software. Results: From 904 infants admitted to NICU, 39 (4.3%) acquired hospital infection. Mortality from nosocomial infections in NICU was 20.5% that was 12% of the total deaths. Coagulase-negative staphylococcal Cook (37.5%) and Escherichia coli (25%) were the most commonly identified agents among dead neonates. Conclusion: For more reduction in nosocomial infection and its mortality rate, mercury hygiene principles and also optimizing bed spaces are recommended. ​
