The aim of this article is to carry out a comparative analysis of two documentary sources, the Erário Mineral (1735) by the surgeon Luís Gomes Ferreira and "Da natureza da mulher" by the Greek physicist Hippocrates. The intention is to point out that the use of medicinal elements and substances in the 18th century for the treatment of uterine dysfunctions was still practically the same as that listed by the Greek physicists. The methodology used in this research is descriptive and explanatory. Our conclusion is that, based on the recipe for the triaga brasílica cited by Ferreira, four elements were identified that were used for these dysfunctions. At the same time, the similarity between their use and the substitutions made by the surgeon in altering the old recipes, due to the new context and flora available in the New World, is noted. These elements are: rue, wine, butua and purga de rom. Portuguese medical institutions still reproduced and promoted the circulation of medicinal knowledge for women's illnesses based on the Hippocratic-Galenic theory. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper summarizes the research work undertaken by the author at the Optics Group of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) for the completion of the Doctoral Thesis "Polarimetric methods for image enhancement in biological applications" supervised by Dr. Ángel Lizana Tutusaus and Prof. Juan Campos Coloma. It is studied, for the first time, the experimental implementation of a series of polarimetric methods to improve the analysis and visualization of biological tissues, both animal and plant tissues. The Thesis analyses the relationship between the two main groups of polarimetric techniques, Polarization Gating and Mueller matrix-based techniques, and a new method to obtain Polarization Gates based on measurements from a single Mueller matrix is proposed. Since the analysis of light depolarization in biomedical studies is restricted to the use of global observables, a group of specialized observables that describe the depolarization properties of samples in more detail. These are applied in the inspection of animal tissues, improving tissue visualization, revealing certain structures hidden in standard depolarization channels, and also enhancing efficiency in classifying different types of tissue. The Thesis also studies the use of polarimetry in plant tissues, an area where Mueller matrix-based techniques are scarcely used. For this reason, our studies with plant samples focus on the potential of Mueller polarimetry, resulting in complementary, or even yielding to superior information, to other non-polarimetric optical techniques. In this article, we aim to analyze the implications of the concept of wonder for plant thinking. To do so, we will begin by examining how this concept is articulated with a critique of the scientistic notion that plants should be seen as mere secondary, passive, and decorative beings. On the contrary, the idea of wonder calls for a new perspective on the plant world, acknowledging the organic richness of plants in their relationship with the world, their own modes of existence, and their marvelous life initiatives, which testify -- as proposed by the German philosopher Hans Jonas -- to their inner life. It is this criterion that will lead to the recognition of the plant as a "paradigm of the living." Ultimately, the acknowledgment of plant wonder materializes as an ethical effort within philosophical thought to allow plant beings to thrive (far from mere objectification). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A sustainable agriculture without the inappropriate use of chemical products is a growing need worldwide that has been on the rise in recent years. That is why the increase in the use of biological products is one of modern agriculture challenges. The use of algae is one of the most viable alternatives to use for these purposes. Algae are photosynthesizing organisms with a simple organization live in water or in very humid environments. The application of seaweed extracts as biofertilizers to the soil, foliage and seeds has shown increases in the yield and harvest quality of various crops. They are also used as nutritional supplements, biostimulants or biofertilizers in agriculture. With this bibliographic review, it is proposed to give a general and updated vision of algae, their importance, characteristics, classification, as well as their uses and effects in agriculture. A partir de concebir a la vegetación como compuesta por sentidos, representaciones e historias, en el presente artículo exponemos y problematizamos cómo determinados árboles y arbustos están inmersos en tramas desiguales de construcción de identidades étnicas y paisajes. A través de un estudio que relaciona la labor etnográfica con la búsqueda de fuentes históricas y artículos periodísticos actuales, indagamos en las memorias y las representaciones que se construyen sobre el manzano, el chañar, el chacay y la rosa mosqueta situados en el centro-oeste de la provincia de Mendoza. Postulamos que esta vegetación activa y construye memorias que catalizan la inclusión, jerarquización o resistencias de identidades étnicas y de los paisajes a los que está asociada. Nuestra área de estudio se sitúa junto a la cordillera frontal de Los Andes, en una de las primeras zonas irrigadas del Valle de Uco, la cual, hacia las tres últimas décadas viene experimentando un proceso de extranjerización y concentración de la tierra y el agua y de reactualización del imaginario europeo-civilizatorio promovido por el estado provincial desde fines del siglo XIX.

El poemario Teoría del Polen de Victoria Ramírez publicado en 2021, plantea a través de ejercicios de postproducción una forma de representación de lo vegetal que es visible a través de montajes dentro de la obra. En ella se observan los fragmentos de citas e imágenes que se intercalan con poemas en verso y prosa, los que, a su vez, varían entre formas líricas y otras de carácter más bien informativo. El montaje elaborado por Ramírez permitiría levantar un discurso político y dar espacio a las corporalidades vegetales para manifestar su capacidad de agenciamiento. Sin embargo, se produce un problema en la representación en este gesto, puesto que tal agenciamiento estaría truncado precisamente por el ejercicio de representación al estar dichas por otro, una voz humana. Bajo esta perspectiva, las plantas no tendrían capacidad íntegra de agenciamiento en el espacio literario.

La presencia de micro (MPs) y nanoplásticos (NPs) ha sido objeto de exhaustivos estudios a nivel mundial. Sin embargo, la investigación enfocada en evaluar las consecuencias ecotoxicológicas de la exposición en ecosistemas es limitada, especialmente en especies presentes en la región de América Latina y el Caribe. En tal sentido, se llevó a cabo una revisión sistemática de la información disponible sobre los efectos de MPs y/o NPs en organismos acuáticos de esta región. Desde el año 2001, los MPs han sido identificados como contaminantes de preocupación emergente. A lo largo del tiempo, se observó un incremento marcado de estudios que documentan su presencia en organismos, destacando a Brasil como uno de los países con mayor número de investigaciones a nivel regional. Entre los polímeros más estudiados para evaluar los efectos toxicológicos se encuentran el poliestireno y el polietileno, y en menor medida otros compuestos y mezclas. Estudios realizados en diversas especies de vertebrados acuáticos, han revelado una amplia diversidad de efectos en los organismos, siendo la clase Pisces el grupo más estudiado. Alteraciones inmunológicas y neurológicas, cambios en el comportamiento reproductivo, genotoxicidad y la modificación de la ingesta de alimentos son algunos de los efectos comúnmente documentados. En América Latina y el Caribe, intensificar la investigación sobre los efectos de MPs y NPs emerge como un imperativo estratégico. Este esfuerzo no solo expandirá el conocimiento acerca de las dinámicas específicas de estos contaminantes a nivel regional, sino que también enriquecerá la comprensión global de esta problemática en constante crecimiento.

La hidroponía es la tecnología de la agricultura sin suelo, en la que las plantas crecen en un medio acuático. Mientras que la acuaponía es un sistema de producción de alimentos en rápido crecimiento que integra la hidroponía con la acuicultura (cultivo de peces). El objetivo de este estudio fue comparar la producción de acelga (Beta vulgaris var. Cicla L.) mediante un sistema hidropónico típico y un sistema acuapónico de producción de tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) en invernadero. Se utilizaron seis sistemas de recirculación independientes para comprobar la producción por triplicado. Un análisis de regresión lineal simple indicó que la tasa de producción de hojas difirió de forma significativa entre sistemas (p < 0.05), ya que en el hidropónico se obtuvieron 3.46 hojas semana-1, mientras que en el acuapónico fue de 1.53 hojas semana-1. La biomasa vegetal aumentó 53.91 g semana-1 en el tratamiento hidropónico y 38.24 g semana-1 en el acuapónico, aunque dichas tasas de producción no difirieron significativamente (p>0.05). No se detectaron diferencias significativas en las concentraciones de amonio (NH4+), nitrito (NO2-), y fosfato (PO4+) en ambos tratamientos; pero se encontraron diferencias significativas para nitratos (NO3-) entre sistemas (p < 0.05). La producción de acelgas en el sistema hidropónico fue mayor que en el sistema acuapónico en cuanto al número de hojas y la biomasa.

O artigo visa demarcar o acervo de conhecimentos indígenas sobre as plantas presentes na documentação produzida na viagem filosófica do naturalista luso-brasileiro Alexandre Rodrigues Ferreira pela Amazônia colonial portuguesa (1783-1792). A expedição científica percorreu os territórios das capitanias do Pará, São José do Rio Negro e Mato Grosso e Cuiabá e teve entre os seus objetivos inventariar a flora, a fauna, os minerais e as populações locais. Em campo, o naturalista recorreu aos saberes indígenas sobre as ervas, raízes, madeiras, palmeiras, procurando instrumentalizá-los para geração de riqueza para Coroa portuguesa e/ou para a sobrevivência nos sertões. Os conhecimentos associados ao manejo indígena da natureza foram ainda incorporados aos interesses da história natural, em um momento em que a ciência moderna se estruturava com base na razão, observação e experimentação. Na arena historiográfica posta, dialoga-se com estudos interessados em pensar que o conhecimento científico ilustrado foi produzido a partir dos trânsitos/contatos recíprocos, embora marcados por relações de poder assimétricas, com sujeitos cuja pretensão era a de subalternizar

Ouvir o que dizem as plantas para com elas conversar é a proposta que mobiliza a escrita deste artigo. Parte-se de uma problematização sobre a perspectiva utilitarista que comumente caracteriza a relação entre humanos e plantas. Relação que se reproduz, também, no ensino de botânica, quando frequentemente pensado a partir de um olhar formativo tecnicista e hierárquico para as plantas e outros não humanos. Assim, baseando-se principalmente em repertórios e noções provenientes das artes, da filosofia e da literatura, o que se busca é construir possibilidades de outros encontros com as plantas. Encontros menos hierárquicos nos quais seja possível escutar a voz quase inaudível das plantas e com elas conversar.

Resumen Presentamos un modelo de progresión para el desarrollo de la observación científica en el nivel de preescolar. Utilizamos cinco componentes para establecer la progresión: los objetivos de aprendizaje; las variables de progreso; los niveles de progreso; los desempeños de aprendizaje y las evaluaciones. Considerando las variables de progreso: Comparar, Registrar y Describir y sus subvariables establecemos tres niveles de progreso: Observación Perceptiva, Intermedia y Científica. Los datos empíricos evaluados para estructurar la progresión provienen de una actividad que planteaba comparar, registrar y describir dos semillas de tomate cherry. Con el análisis de contenido analizamos estas producciones. Los resultados indican que hay evolución en las variables de progreso y las subvariables avanzan heterogéneamente. Encontramos que la descripción puede ser una plataforma para promover el desarrollo de la observación científica, cuando se diseñan actividades centradas en este objetivo, y el docente promueve la interacción con el objeto observado utilizando material didáctico adecuado.

Antecedentes: Las hojas han sido utilizadas para definir secciones en el género Brickellia, lo que permite postular su valor taxonómico en grupos monofiléticos, así como identificar el grado de similitud morfológica entre especies y secciones en un contexto taxonómico y filogenético. Preguntas: ¿Las especies de Brickellia sección Barroetea se pueden diferenciar con las formas de las láminas foliares? ¿La sección se reconoce de las demás secciones del género con base en la forma foliar?, ¿las formas foliares son un rasgo conservado en el género Brickellia? Especies de estudio: Se utilizaron seis especies de la sección Barroetea y 19 especies de otras secciones de Brickellia y géneros relacionados (Ageratina y Carminatia). Métodos: Se realizó un análisis linear discriminante y un filomorfoespacio para conocer las diferencias y evaluar la conservación de la forma foliar. Resultados: Las especies de la sección Barroetea presentaron diferencias significativas a nivel específico, excepto en Brickellia sonorana. Las especies evaluadas de las secciones Barroetea, Brickellia, Coleosanthus, Leptanthodium y Xerobrickellia tienden a formas ovado-deltoideas, excepto Microphyllae donde son reniformes, en Phanerostylis ovadas o elípticas y en Gemmipedium y Kuhnia lineares. El filomorfoespacio muestra un traslape entre las secciones analizadas; las secciones ancestrales muestran un cambio morfológico mayor que las secciones de reciente diversificación y la conservación de la forma foliar no se confirmó estadísticamente. Conclusiones: La mayoría de las especies de Brickellia sección Barroetea se pueden diferenciar entre ellas, pero no de las demás secciones del género Brickellia. Las formas foliares no se conservan en las secciones del género.

Antecedentes. Las garrapatas y los nematodos gastrointestinales (NGI) afectan negativamente en la salud, bienestar y producción de los animales domésticos. Adicionalmente, algunos parásitos representan un potencial zoonótico y han desarrollado resistencia acaricida y antihelmíntica a los principales fármacos empleados para su control. Debido a esto, se han explorado alternativas de control, destacando el uso de extractos de plantas y sus metabolitos secundarios con actividad acaricida y antihelmíntica. Objetivo. Presentar los principales avances sobre el uso de ocho plantas tropicales de la península de Yucatán para el control de garrapatas y nematodos de bovinos, equinos y caninos. Metodología. Se recopilaron artículos científicos y trabajos inéditos realizados por el grupo de trabajo de la Facultad de Medicina Veterinaria y Zootecnia de la Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán y el Centro de Investigación Científica de Yucatán. La revisión se centró en el uso de extractos de ocho plantas y los compuestos activos de Petiveria alliacea contra Rhipicephalus microplus y los compuestos de Diospyros anisandra contra NGI como Ancylostoma caninum, Haemonchus placei y ciatostominos. Resultados. Los estudios sobre los extractos de Bursera simaruba, Caesalpinia gaumeri, Casearia corymbosa, D. anisandra, Havardia albicans, P. alliacea, Solanum tridynamum y S. erianthum demostraron su potencial acaricida contra larvas de R. microplus resistentes a acaricidas. P. alliacea además demostró altos porcentajes de mortalidad en garrapatas adultas, así como disminución en sus indicadores reproductivos. La actividad acaricida se le atribuyó a los compuestos trisulfuro de dibencilo y disulfuro de dibencilo, los cuales provocan daños histológicos al sistema reproductor de las hembras adultas, afectando el proceso de ovogénesis. P. alliacea también demostró actividad antihelmíntica (AH) de amplio espectro contra huevos de A. caninum, H. placei y ciatostominos. En D. anisandra se demostró también alta AH (ovicida) contra los nematodos previamente mencionados. A la plumbagina se le atribuyó la responsabilidad de la AH, aún a muy bajas concentraciones. Por otra parte, se observó diferencia en la actividad acaricida y AH dependiendo de la parte de la planta y época de colecta para ambas plantas. Implicaciones. Se requieren más estudios para la identificación de compuestos activos antihelmínticos de P. alliacea, elucidar los mecanismos de acción, y explorar la farmacodinamia y farmacocinética de los compuestos activos de ambas plantas para realizar estudios in vivo seguros y eficaces. Conclusiones. Los extractos de las ocho plantas evaluadas presentan alta actividad acaricida contra R. microplus resistentes a acaricidas. P. alliacea, D. anisandra y sus compuestos activos presentan además alta AH de amplio espectro contra NGI del orden strongylida, por lo cual representan una potencial alternativa de control contra garrapatas y nematodos de animales domésticos.

Numerous examples of macro plant fossils can be found in the Kerman region's Early and Middle Jurassic successions. The Ab-e-Haji, Badamu, and Hojedk formations were among these patterns. One of the suitable regions for paleobotanical study is the Chatroud section. In this region, the Lower-Middle Jurassic is approximately 210 meters thick. 18 species of macro plant fossils from 14 genera, including Nilssonia polymorpha, Pterophyllum nathorsti, Podozamites distans, Elatocladus zamioides, Elatides thomasii, Nilssonia feriziensis, Nilssonia herriesi, and Beania sp., which are identified and described in this study, along with Pterophyllum schenki, Anomozamites marginatus, and Klukia exilis. In this region, there are two plant assemblage zones known as Anomozamites marginatus-Pterophyllum schenki Zone and Klukia exilis Zone. Las especies invasoras son una de las principales amenazas para la conservación de la biodiversidad en todo el mundo; Portugal no es una excepción. Es esencial cambiar las actitudes y el comportamiento de la población, minimizando la introducción, dispersión y establecimiento de estas especies. La escuela puede contribuir a fomentar comportamientos proambientales en los estudiantes y, cuando está abierta a la comunidad, en otros agentes educativos como las familias. Este artículo informa sobre una práctica pedagógica STEAM que articula Ciencia con la Literatura. En esta intervención, los estudiantes analizan las amenazas a la biodiversidad por la presencia de especies invasoras. Este estudio se realizó en un contexto interdisciplinario en el que los estudiantes aprendieron y promovieron acciones de sensibilización comunitaria para la protección del medio ambiente y la erradicación de invasoras.

Introduction: Diseases often represent physiological changes that require immediate action depending on the severity. Faced with these changes, Andean women put into practice their ancestral knowledge and attitudes to find a solution, as they are the most immediate means at their disposal. Objective: To interpret the attitudes of Andean women in the province of Hualgayoc, Peru, towards using plants for treating some gynecological events. Materials and Methods: A qualitative, exploratory, hermeneutic phenomenological design study was conducted with 16 Andean women through a semi-structured interview based on an interview guide with optimal content validity. The results emerged from open, axial, and selective coding and were organized into subcategories and categories. Results: The categories obtained were favorable attitudes towards using plants and gynecological situations for using plants. The subcategories include satisfaction with the results achieved, safety to continue using plants, aptitude to advise on the use of plants, knowledge of plant's therapeutic effects, events for using plants, and methods of preparing them. Discussion: Several international studies converge on similar attitudes, manifested in greater trust in traditional medicine, favorable acceptance behavior, belief in its effects, a mental projection of getting well, and willingness to continue its use. Conclusion: The women were satisfied with the results obtained from the use of medicinal plants because they were beneficial, indigenous to their region, and did not involve any expense. Neste artigo busca-se pensar a potência de duas mesas de trabalho, desenvolvidas em diferentes contextos e denominadas de “Encontros com potências frágeis” e “Modos de atenção à Terra”. As mesas de trabalho são, ao mesmo tempo, uma intervenção artística urbana e uma metodologia de pesquisar-criar entre artes e ciências, desenvolvidas no âmbito do grupo multiTÃO (CNPq) e Revista ClimaCom. Interessa pensar como tais mesas de trabalho instauram um certo caminhar multiespécies e como geram novas possibilidades de habitar a educações e comunicações diante do Antropoceno.

Resumo Em 2019, a antropóloga Berta Ribeiro (1924-1997) foi homenageada com um vestido. Através do tributo pouco comum, procuramos mostrar como a roupa que a homenageia carrega relações e histórias da trajetória e da obra de Berta. Pretende-se também mostrar como interesses de pesquisa da antropóloga, como saberes ancestrais, técnicas de produção de cestaria indígena, plantas, pessoas e preservação da floresta, se relacionam com esse traje, criado pela estilista Flavia Aranha, e dialogam com discussões latentes tanto no conhecimento científico da antropologia e da filosofia contemporânea quanto com os saberes tradicionais indígenas. Neste sentido, através da homenagem vestível feita pelo evento “Selvagem: ciclo de estudos sobre a vida”, tomamos a antropóloga e seu vestido em um só feixe, cujas fibras serão estendidas ao longo deste artigo, buscando olhar mais de perto e mostrar seus fios reminiscentes, suas linhas têxteis, seus matizes tintórios, seus filamentos vegetais, suas gradações humanas, antropológicas e filosóficas.

El artículo problematiza el tono vegetalista adoptado recientemente en la crítica literaria y en algunos debates del pensamiento filosófico contemporáneo. Al asumir la consigna epistemológica de pensar formas de vida no humanas, la escritura con sensibilidad vegetal cuestiona la correlación entre pensamiento y crisis climática, ya que pregunta cómo seguir pensando críticamente en un contexto de devastación ecológica. La hipótesis del artículo es que la escritura con sensibilidad vegetal es un intento por escapar del concepto moderno de naturaleza anclado al marco general de la literatura moderna y, por extensión, de la afirmación de un tipo de escritura de la extinción en un contexto de extinción de la teoría. Por consiguiente, el artículo está dividido en dos partes. La primera parte discute el rendimiento teórico de la escritura con sensibilidad vegetal y analiza las condiciones críticas para suscribir una fitoestética americana. La segunda parte postula la noción de crítica vegetal como una forma de práctica teórica encargada de describir formas de vida menores para la metafísica occidental y, por consiguiente, la revitalización de la dimensión vegetal y sensitiva del pensamiento. La conclusión del artículo es que la escritura con sensibilidad vegetal conduce al arcano de la racionalidad humana —la aisthesis—y, por lo tanto, constituye la primera expresión sensible del habitar humano.

Con el objetivo de inventariar la flora y vegetación presente en la región central del golfo de Ana María, Ciego de Ávila, Cuba, se realizaron colectas de campo, revisiones bibliográficas y la consulta de materiales de herbarios. Se listaron un total de 47 plantas vasculares, agrupadas en 43 géneros y 25 familias. Cayo Algodón Grande constituyó la localidad de mayor diversidad, la cual estuvo en correspondencia con la extensión superficial del territorio. En el área de estudio se registraron tres formaciones vegetales, siendo el bosque de mangle la de mayor representatividad.

Highlights: Las mujeres andinas presentan un contexto sociocultural único y especial, con mucha riqueza interpretativa para ser revelada y comunicada. El uso de plantas medicinales como la mayor expresión de la medicina tradicional, constituye un eje fundamental que debe ser incluido en la atención integral de salud. Los conocimientos ancestrales y experiencias agradables de las mujeres andinas se reafirman en las actitudes favorables hacia el uso de plantas medicinales. Los eventos ginecológicos son frecuentes en las mujeres y requieren de acciones inmediatas y eficaces para su remisión. Introducción: Las enfermedades a menudo constituyen alteraciones fisiológicas que requieren acciones inminentes según su gravedad, ante ello, las mujeres andinas ponen en práctica sus conocimientos y actitudes ancestrales a fin de resolverlas, por ser el medio más inmediato. Objetivo: Interpretar las actitudes en el uso de plantas para el tratamiento de algunos eventos ginecológicos, de las mujeres andinas procedentes de la provincia de Hualgayoc, Perú. Materiales y métodos: Estudio cualitativo, exploratorio, de diseño fenomenológico – hermenéutico, desarrollado con 16 mujeres andinas, mediante una entrevista semiestructurada, en base a una guía de entrevista con validez de contenido óptima. Los resultados emergieron a partir de la codificación abierta, axial y selectiva y se presentan organizados en subcategorías y categorías. Resultados: Las categorías obtenidas fueron las actitudes favorables hacia la utilización de plantas y las situaciones ginecológicas para su uso, entre las subcategorías están: complacencia por los efectos alcanzados, seguridad para continuar usándolas, aptitud para aconsejar su uso, saberes sobre sus acciones terapéuticas, eventos para su utilización y formas de preparación de las plantas. Discusión: Diversos estudios internacionales convergen en actitudes similares, que se manifiestan en una mayor confianza en la medicina tradicional, conductas favorables de aceptación, convicción en sus efectos, proyección anímica de mejora y disposición para continuar con su uso. Conclusión: Las mujeres mostraron su satisfacción por los resultados obtenidos con el uso de plantas medicinales, al ser beneficiosas, oriundas de su zona y no generar gasto, su uso frecuente fue para paliar dolores durante la menstruación, infecciones de la vagina y trabajo de parto. Listening to what the plants say in order to talk to them is the proposal that mobilizes the writing of this article. It starts with a problematization about the utilitarian perspective that commonly characterizes the relationship between humans and plants. This relationship is also reproduced in the teaching of botany, when it is often thought from a technical and hierarchical point of view towards plants and other non-humans. Thus, based mainly on repertoires and notions coming from the arts, philosophy and literature, what is sought is to build possibilities for other encounters with plants. The aim of this work is to show options for preparing, observing, recording images of biological samples and provide recommendations on optimal procedures for each specimen. Some basic concepts are developed to take into account when preparing and observing biological samples of different origin. Some experiences carried out in the Scanning Electron Microscopy Service of UNNE are described. The procedures to observe, analyze and record morphological details of different biological sample types are explained. Neste artigo procuro apresentar algumas reflexões da pesquisa desenvolvida junto a coletivos de pescadores, vazanteiros e quilombolas que vivem nas porções inundáveis das margens do rio São Francisco, na região Norte do Estado de Minas Gerais. O foco da discussão recairá sobre as relações destes coletivos com as plantas, o gado e o tempo, pensados aqui como ponto de partida para a compreensão do que é a vida na beira do rio. Esta paisagem está condicionada a constantes transformações relacionadas aos períodos de cheias e secas, o que colabora para a formação de diferentes áreas, que são classificadas e nomeadas por aqueles que ali habitam. Contudo, tais transformações não são as únicas vivenciadas por estes coletivos. Os habitantes da beira do rio também acompanham, no decorrer de suas trajetórias, diversas mudanças em relação ao clima e ao acesso aos seus territórios. A forma como percebem estas mudanças não são diretas, mas sim intermediadas pela ação de outros seres. Dessa forma, neste trabalho as plantas são discutidas enquanto dispositivos de memória onde as transformações do tempo estão impressas, sendo tempo uma categoria acionada pelos meus interlocutores enquanto uma conjugação do tempo climático com o tempo histórico.

speciesLink is a large-scale biodiversity information portal that exists thanks to a broad collaborative network of people and institutions. CRIA's involvement with the scientific community of Brazil and other countries is responsible for the significant results achieved, currently reaching more than 15 million primary biodiversity data records, 95% of which are associated with preserved specimens and about 25% with high-quality digital images. The network provides data on over 200,000 species, of which over 110,000 occur in Brazil. This article describes thematic networks within speciesLink, as well as some of the most useful tools developed. The importance and contributions of speciesLink are outlined, as are concerns about securing stable budgetary support for such biodiversity data e-infrastructures. The applications of malathion ULV in the Region Lagunera are considered as a fundamental action to combat the cotton boll weevil Anthonomus grandis, Boheman, considered the main pest in this region. The present study was carried out know the effect generated by aerial applications of malathion ULV on the beneficial insect associated with the cotton crop. Samples were carried out in four fields located in the state of Durango with different number of aerial applications during August in the 2018 and 2019 agricultural cycles. Samples consisted of 20 net sweeps in five points of each locality, giving a total of 100 blows per property, later collected material was classified and identified in the laboratory. The variables evaluated were the number of insects per 100 net sweeps of each species or taxonomic group. In the 2018 cycle, the Lucero field had two aerial applications presented a greater number of entomophagous insects compared to other fields (F = 7.088, gl = 3, P = 0.001). Britingham field had three aerial applications, two in Horizonte and only one in Pamplona. In the 2019 cycle no significant difference was observed between fields (F = 0.798, gl = 3, P = 0.503). San Sebastián field had three aerial applications, two in Lucero, only one in Jauja while in the Pamplona field no applications were made. In 2018 the most abundant were C. carnea, H. convergens and O. tristicolor, while in 2019 C. carnea, O. tristicolor and H. convergens were in descending order. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Most of the farmers who grow cactus pear (Opuntia albicarpa) use manure as a fertilizer. This practice increases the problems of pests. The use of endomycorrhizae (Glomus intraradices) is almost unknown to farmers. Therefore, the objective of this research was to study the effect of the application of organic matter (OM) and inoculation with endomycorrhizae in cactus pear. The study was conducted under greenhouse conditions at the Montecillo Campus of the Postgraduate College, Mexico. Two types of soil from San Luis Potosi, Mexico, were used: reddish coloration (xerosol) and gray coloration (lithosol). The results show that there were significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) in all the variables by inoculation with endomycorrhizae and in the majority of those by the application of OM. Both the mycorrhizae and the application of OM, as vermicompost, promoted greater growth of the stems and roots. The types of soils used did not affect the growth of the plants. Mycorrhizae can be useful to improve mineral nutrition and thus increase yields in cactus pear plantations. In addition, these fungi can increase yields and help reduce production costs. The application of 50 t ha-1 vermicompost is a better alternative to add nutrients and OM to this crop. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Context: A plant disease is the result of the interaction between a susceptible host, a virulent pathogen and favorable environmental conditions. Several anthropogenic and environmental factors have favored the emerging and re-emerging of diseases that have led to crop losses. Globally, in recent years there have been a series of first reports of pathogens that have appeared in certain geographical areas or attacking different hosts, including the development of variants, strains and new species of some pathogens. Knowledge Gap: However, in addition to these reviews that describe the factors that direct or explain the emerging of particular pathogens, there is no review that highlights the emerging of plant diseases in Latin America. Neither is there an update of the pathogen groups of the genera Candidatus Liberibacter and Phytoplasma that would allow a comprehensive knowledge of them. Study purpose: To comprehensively review the occurrence of emerging and re-emerging plant diseases in Latin America in the last five years, to highlight some pathogens of considerable importance in the region and to update the information on the groups of Ca. Liberibacter and Ca. Phytoplasma. Methodology: A search was made in different bibliographic databases, limiting the information to the geographic region and the last ten years, highlighting the results of the last five years, without excluding basic articles for the different groups of pathogens. Additionally, a specific search was made for the genera Ca. Liberibacter and Ca. Phytoplasma. Results and conclusion: Latin America experiences emerging and re-emerging plant diseases evidenced in a large number of first reports for different countries; in addition to studies indicating geographic expansion, host range of pathogens, appearance of new races, strains and variants, and even species of viruses, viroids, bacteria, fungi and oomycetes. For the genera Ca. Liberibacter and Ca. Phytoplasma new hosts of the groups were found in relation to those initially reported. It is concluded that Latin America presents a large number of reports for emerging pathogens, but also some reemerging diseases continue to cause problems, and the information summarized in this review is key to make known the existence of these problems in the region. Tratamentos atuais como a rádio e a quimioterapia podem causar prejuízos às células saudáveis e, consequentemente, acarretar efeitos prejudiciais ao organismo. Neste sentido, buscou-se revisar os efeitos de diversos produtos naturais contra células cancerígenas, visando amenizar a proliferação desordenada e avaliar o potencial farmacológico para a capacidade de produção de fármacos derivados desses produtos. Embora se saiba que existem vários tratamentos para o câncer, o uso de produtos naturais possibilita o retardo do desenvolvimento carcinogênico. Além disso, seu uso combinado a medicamentos já desenvolvidos também aponta para uma alternativa promissora e complementar no tratamento de diferentes tipos de câncer. Este estudo tem como objetivo apresentar algumas das últimas pesquisas publicadas entre os anos de 2016 e 2019 que avaliam efeitos de diferentes compostos naturais no tratamento do câncer. Os resultados mostraram que os produtos naturais possuem um grande potencial farmacológico para serem utilizados na produção de fármacos anticancerígenos, auxiliando diretamente na redução das atividades tumorais, com efeito proapoptótico, aumento de caspase-8, caspase-3 e Fas, aumento da expressão das proteínas Bax ou p21 e inibição da expressão de NF-kB e topoisomerase II, por exemplo.
