Abstract

In this article, we aim to analyze the implications of the concept of wonder for plant thinking. To do so, we will begin by examining how this concept is articulated with a critique of the scientistic notion that plants should be seen as mere secondary, passive, and decorative beings. On the contrary, the idea of wonder calls for a new perspective on the plant world, acknowledging the organic richness of plants in their relationship with the world, their own modes of existence, and their marvelous life initiatives, which testify -- as proposed by the German philosopher Hans Jonas -- to their inner life. It is this criterion that will lead to the recognition of the plant as a "paradigm of the living." Ultimately, the acknowledgment of plant wonder materializes as an ethical effort within philosophical thought to allow plant beings to thrive (far from mere objectification). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
