Biocomposite materials made of natural plant fibers are becoming a viable alternative to the use of synthetic ones such as glass fibers, thanks to many economic, ecological, and technical benefits. However, their massive use in the industry requires optimal control of their mechanical performances, which constitutes a real scientific issue to be overcome. Indeed, biocomposites suffer from an important variability in their mechanical properties because of their multiscale structure, natural growth conditions, and various processing parameters, in addition to eventual chemical treatments. Biocomposites are also highly sensitive to the surrounding environment in terms of humidity and temperature because of the hydrophilic properties of natural plant fibers. In this context, this Perspective aims to provide a critical look at the influence of the main factors that affect the mechanical properties of biocomposites in order to suggest some possible research outlooks that could contribute to optimizing the control of these mechanical properties and expanding the use of biocomposites in industry. The shortage of superior grade wood fibers is a prime problem faced by Indian pulp and paper industries. As a result, the pulp and paper industry find it difficult to withstand the competition in the market, which had grown extremely competitive. In order to increase the utilization of non-wood fibers resources in the production of high quality eco-friendly papers, dhaincha, a non-wood fiber resource has potential industrial application. In this research, pulp and paper were developed from Sesbania aculeata stem using kraft pulping followed by bleaching. Optimization of conditions for pulping was carried out by Response Surface Methodology. The relationship between three variables and three responses were studied using Box–Behnken experimental design. The developed pulp was evaluated for kappa number, brightness index, viscosity, FTIR and TGA. Then paper was developed by using optimized pulp and evaluated for physical properties. The statistical analysis (ANOVA) was carried out in order to establish the relationship between the concentration of NaOH, Na2S, treatment time and temperature with kappa number, brightness index and viscosity. Fused deposition molding (FDM) is a commonly used 3D printing method, and polylactic acid (PLA) has become one of the most important raw materials for this technology due to its excellent warping resistance. However, its mechanical properties are insufficient. Polybutylene adipate terephthalate (PBAT) is characterized by high toughness and low rigidity, which can complement the performance of PLA. The biodegradable polymers produced by blending the two have thus been used to replace petroleum-based plastics in recent years, but the high cost of the blends has limited their wide applications. Introducing plant fibers into the blends can not only maintain biodegradability and improve the overall performance of the plastics but also reduce their costs greatly. In this study, the PBAT/PLA blends with a mass ratio of 70/30 were selected and mixed with wood flour (WF) to prepare ternary composites using a FDM 3D printing technique. The effects of WF dosage on the mechanical properties, thermal properties, surface wettability, and melt flowability of the composites were investigated. The results showed that the proper amount of WF could improve the tensile and flexural moduli of the composites, as well as the crystallinity and hydrophobicity of the printed specimens increased with the content of WF, while the melt flow rate decreased gradually. Compared to PBAT/PLA blends, WF/PBAT/PLA composites are less costly, and the composite containing 20 wt.% WF has the best comprehensive performance, showing great potential as raw material for FDM 3D printing. Sandwich panels are widely used in the naval and aerospace industries to withstand the normal tensile, compressive, and shear stresses associated with bending. The faces of sandwich composites are usually made of metals such as aluminum and, in some studies with composites, using a polymeric matrix, but there are no studies in the literature using a castor oil polyurethane matrix. The core of the panel must keep the faces apart and be rigid perpendicular to them. To begin the work, a study was carried out on the influence of alkaline treatment on sisal fibers to increase the fibers' adhesion to castor oil polyurethane. There are no relevant studies worldwide on the use of this resin and the adhesion of vegetable fibers to this polyurethane. In this work, a study was carried out through a three-point bending test of sandwich panels using faces of composite material with sisal fibers subjected to an alkaline treatment of 10% by weight of sodium hydroxide and an immersion time of 4 h in the dissolution, which was the best chemical treatment obtained initially in a castor oil polyurethane matrix. The honeycomb cores were made by 3D printer and in this study two different printing filament materials, PETG and PLA, and two different core heights were compared. As a result of a traction test, it was observed that sisal fibers with chemical treatment in a castor oil polyurethane matrix can be used in composites, although the stress levels obtained are 50% lower than the stresses obtained in other matrixes such as epoxy resin. The combination of sisal faces in a castor oil polyurethane matrix and honeycomb cores made in a 3D printer showed good properties, which allows the use of renewable, sustainable and less aggressive materials for the environment. In all tests, PETG was 21% to 32% stronger than PLA. Although there was no rupture in the test specimens, the PETG cores deformed 0.5% to 3.6% less than PLA. As a degradable polymer material, polybutylene succinate (PBS) has the disadvantages of high cost, slow crystallization rate, and low strength modulus. Reinforcing modification with plant fibers is a popular method. A unique three-dimensional network structure was found in luffa fiber (LF). Compared to other plant fibers, this fiber has excellent mechanical strength due to its unique three-dimensional structure. Its structure allows it to maintain the integrity of the reinforcement phase in the polymer aggregate, overcoming the dispersion and defects of short fiber reinforcement. Herein, the LF was treated with alkali treatment and silanated with three coupling agents and pre-impregnation methods to improve interfacial properties with the PBS matrix. Then it was laminated with polybutylene succinate to prepare a PBS/LF composite board with three layers of LF. The performance of the composite material using the KH550 coupling agent was improved the most. The tensile strength and modulus of the material were increased by 24.9% and 82.9%, respectively, the flexural strength and modulus were increased by 21.7% and 18.5%, and the impact strength was increased by 12.5%. The water absorption weight gain rate is also the lowest, about 3.5%. For the LF-reinforced PBS, the preparation method is simple, and the reinforcement effect is better, that the cost was effectively reduced, and the application field of the PBS green material was expanded. The existence of vegetation of open environments with a predominance of grass–forb meadow associations and the participation of pine–oak forests was reconstructed on the basis of study of microphytofossils from the Lower Pleistocene deposits of the Taurida cave in central Crimea. These results are consistent with data on the composition of land vertebrates from the Taurida locality. The studied spectrum demonstrates similarity with the spore–pollen assemblage of the Berezan horizon of Ukraine with a maximum age of about 1.8 Ma. Based on the abundance of trichomes and plant fibers similar to those of Ficus carica Linnaeus, 1753 in the coprolites, it is assumed that the extinct hyenas Pachycrocuta brevirostris (Gervais, 1850) ate fig fruits in certain seasons. The escalating global population and subsequent demand for agricultural products have led to a surge in agricultural waste generation, posing significant disposal challenges. Conventional disposal methods such as burning and dumping not only harm the environment but also jeopardize human health and safety. Recognizing the urgent need for sustainable waste management, researchers have increasingly focused on repurposing agricultural plant waste as a valuable resource. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the potential of agricultural plant waste in wealth creation and sustainable development. It highlights the detrimental impacts of current disposal methods and emphasizes the necessity for alternative approaches. By analyzing the physical, mechanical, and chemical properties of plant fibers, particularly cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, this review underscores their suitability for diverse applications. Moreover, it explores the emerging trend of utilizing pineapple leaf fiber, a sustainable and lightweight material, in structural applications, such as UAV construction. With its exceptional mechanical properties and biodegradability, pineapple leaf fiber holds promise as a viable alternative to traditional materials, contributing to a more sustainable future. Natural plant fibers are hierarchical structures with multi-level microstructures. With advances in composite material science, these fibers have been widely used in various polymer products. Therefore, it is crucial to quantitatively understand the relationship between their microstructures and mechanical behavior. This paper utilizes the Mori-Tanaka micromechanics model, viscoelasticity theory, and Zakian's inversion method to study the impact of plant fiber microstructure on the viscoelastic behavior of multiscale structures. At the microscopic scale, the macromolecular polymer (matrix) and cellulose (fiber) are first homogenized. The second homogenization involves the cell wall microstructure, and the third homogenization considers the porosity of the cell wall and lumen to predict the effective modulus of fiber bundles. By applying the principle of elasticviscoelastic correspondence, the viscoelastic mechanical parameters of plant fibers are calculated. The study examines the effects of cellulose crystallinity and lumen porosity on the structural stiffness and viscoelastic properties of fibers, identifying these factors as key influences on the mechanical behavior of plant fibers. Bioplastic is a biodegradable and environmentally friendly material because it uses natural materials in the form of plant fibers. The plants with high fiber content can be converted to cellulose acetate as a raw material for bioplastics. Durian skin is a biomass waste that has the potential to be a raw material for bioplastics. Cellulosebased bioplastics are generally made by adding adhesives, plasticizers, and fillers. In this study, the manufacture of bioplastics used the cellulose acetate from durian skin with variations of plasticizer concentration, plasticizer type, starch adhesive, and chitosan. Glycerol and sorbitol were used as plasticizers with variations in concentration of 20%, 30%, and 40%. The mass ratio of cellulose and starch used was 1.5:1. Bioplastics were produced by adding chitosan, starch, and variations of plasticizers in each concentration which were achieved varying values in tensile strength, water absorption, density values, elongation values, Young's modulus, degradability, and different bioplastic surface structures. The best bioplastic result is bioplastic with 20% sorbitol concentration for a density of 0.852 g/mL, water absorption of 45.99%, tensile strength of 613.12 Kpa, elongation of 2.35%, and Young's modulus of 26090.21 Kpa. Highlights Continuous plant yarn‐reinforced polylactic acid (PLA) composites were produced through in situ 3D printing, focusing on how plant fiber attributes influence the crystallization, mechanical, and rheological properties of the printed composites. The aim of this study was to assess the viability of plant fibers as substitutes for synthetic ones in engineering additive manufacturing. Plant fibers promoted the crystallization of PLA due to their shear induction and nucleation agent induction effects. The inherent triangular void defect during printing decreased with increasing plant fiber‐volume fraction. Rheological analysis revealed a transition to more elastic behavior post‐fiber addition, indicating solid‐like properties. The tensile strength of flax fiber‐yarn/PLA composite (volume fraction of 50.79%) was 342.37% higher than that of pure PLA, with a 22.2% lower density than pure PLA. Flax fiber demonstrated a superior reinforcement effect than carbon fiber in compressive strength for 3D printed honeycomb sheets with lower energy consumption and footprint. Optimizing fiber characteristics holds promise for high‐performance 3D‐printed natural fiber composites, particularly in vehicle applications. Plant fiber/polylactic acid (PLA) composites were in situ printed with a volume fraction of 50.79%. Plant fibers promoted the crystallization of PLA during the printing process. Research on the sustainable production of building materials has been increasing from time to time. The construction industry is one of the sectors that leads to the depletion of significant amounts of nonrenewable resources, such as minerals. The ecosystem is deteriorated, and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are enormous in the environment due to the use of fossil fuel-based materials. The purpose of this paper is to review the use of plant fibers (hereafter NF) for reinforcement in cementitious concrete. Concrete, plant fibers, their chemical nature, and characteristics are highlighted in an overview. The most important issues in NF-concrete compatibility were discussed, which could provide research opportunities. Modification of NFs and the cement matrix are examined as methods for improving compatibility and degradation. Moreover, the properties and longevity of cementitious materials that are reinforced with natural fibers are also examined. Biomass composites are ever-increasing in agricultural engineering. This study aims to enhance the mechanical properties and aging resistance of bamboo-plastic composites (BPC), in order to realize the environmental friendliness and application of its pallet products. Firstly, three ratios of bamboo fiber (BF) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) were used to prepare the BPC. Then mechanical property tests were conducted to determine the optimal ratio of BF to HDPE. Among them, nano-TiO2 was widely used to enhance the performance of plant fiber/thermoplastic polymer composites, due to its chemical inertness, anti-aging, anti-bacterial properties, and non-toxic nature. An organic-inorganic co-modification was also employed to enhance the BPC properties for strong compatibility with bamboo fiber and plastic matrix. Nano-SiO2 was coated onto nano-TiO2 to prepare SiO2@TiO2 nanoparticles for the high dispersion and aging resistance of TiO2 . Nano-SiO2@TiO2 modified BPC (KH550-ST-BPC) was prepared using the silane coupling agent KH550 as a reinforcing agent by a spray coating. The properties were evaluated to compare the mechanical properties, SEM images, and UV aging properties of BPC before and after modification. In addition, ANSYS Workbench software was used to perform the finite element analysis of BPC integrated pallets before and after modification, in order to verify the application performance of reinforced BPC pallets. The results indicated: 1) The bending and tensile properties of BPC shared an increasing trend with the increase of bamboo fiber content. The optimal mechanical properties of BPC were obtained at a 5:5 mass ratio of BF to HDPE, with a 38.34% increase in the bending strength and a 62.19% increase in the bending modulus, compared with the 3:7 ratio. The tensile strength and modulus increased by 14.95% and 101.18%, respectively. SEM images revealed that there was a smoother interface for BPC55, which was better consistent with the mechanical test. 2) The bending and tensile strength of BPC were enhanced by 31.11% and 11.86%, respectively, in the modified nano KH550-SiO2@TiO2, while the bending and tensile modulus were enhanced by 52.27% and 21.92%, respectively. The interfacial gaps of modified BPC were significantly reduced in the SEM images, indicating the strong bonding between the bamboo fibers and HDPE. The KH550-SiO2@TiO2 was introduced to fill the interface gaps for the BPC compatibility, which was better consistent with the mechanical property test. 3) The surface morphology revealed that KH550-SiO2@TiO2 modified BPC maintained better color stability for the high resistance to UV aging. While the unmodified BPC showed significant color fading after 1 200 h UV irradiation aging. Colorimetric analysis confirmed that the color stability of KH550-ST-BPC was significantly better during UV aging, with a color aberration change value 77.79% lower than before. 4) Finite element analysis indicated that the modified BPC pallet exhibited the better-bending properties and load-bearing capacity, with a 27.36% reduction in the maximum deformation under the rated load and a 23.41% reduction under the ultimate load in stacking simulation. Flax (Linum usitatissimum) is a bast fiber plant known for its long fibers, making it an excellent source of pulp for paper production. In Ethiopia, flax is primarily cultivated for oil, with the residual straw utilized for papermaking. This study focuses on pulping flax straw using the Kraft process and investigates its chemical composition, proximate analysis, and morphological properties. The proximate analysis revealed an ash content of 4.13% and moisture content of 11%. Chemical composition analysis showed cellulose at 51.34%, hemicellulose at 25.20%, lignin at 14.12%, ash at 4.13%, and extractives at 5.21%. The morphological properties included a fiber length of 1.41 mm, diameter of 16.78 μm, lumen width of 9.45 μm, and cell wall thickness of 3.77 μm. Flax straw exhibited an acceptable Runkel ratio (0.8) and flexibility coefficient (56.32), placing it within the range of non-wood fibers. SEM analysis of the pulp's morphology was conducted to assess fiber structure, including the presence of cracks. Pulp quality and length are directly linked to paper strength. Various pulping conditions were studied using a full-factorial design, with optimum conditions being 10% alkaline, 131.74°C, and 120 min of cooking time, yielding a pulp with a Kappa number of 10.45 and a yield of 40.56%. A peat substrate is made from peat from drained peatlands, which is a limited resource. A realistic estimate is that 50% of the world's wetlands have been lost. Peat is used in horticulture, especially for the cultivation of vegetables in greenhouses. The consequences of peatland exploitation are an increase in the greenhouse effect and a decrease in carbon stocks. Wood fiber can be used as an alternative to peat. The chemical properties of growing media interact and change continuously due to the small volume of growing media, which is limited by the growing container. This study aims to gain new knowledge on the impact of nutrient changes in the microbial degradation of carbon compounds in wood fiber and mixtures with a peat substrate on the content and uptake of nutrients required by plants. The cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) variety 'Dirigent H' developed in the Netherlands was cultivated in growing media of a peat substrate and wood fiber: (1) peat substrate (PS); (2) wood fiber (WF); (3) wood fiber and peat substrate 50/50 v/v (WF/PS 50/50); (4) wood fiber and peat substrate 25/75 v/v (WF/PS 25/75). The rates of fertilization were the following: (1) conventional fertilization (CF); (2) 13 g N per plant (N13); (3) 23 g N per plant (N23); (4) 30 g N per plant (N30). The experiment was carried out with three replications. As the amount of wood fiber increased, the humidity and pH of the growing media increased. The fertilization of the cucumbers with different quantities of nitrogen influenced the nutrient uptake. The plants grown in the 50/50 and 25/75 growing media had the best Cu uptake when fertilized with N23. When the plants grown in the wood fiber media and the 50/50 media were fertilized with N13, N23, and N30, the Mn content in the growing media at the end of the growing season was significantly lower than the Mn content in the media with conventional fertilization. Thus, nitrogen improved the uptake of Mn by the plants grown not only in the wood fiber, but also in the combinations with a peat substrate. Growing plants in wood fiber and fertilizing them with N13 can result in the optimum uptake of micronutrients. The number and biomass of cucumber fruits per plant were influenced by the amount of wood fiber in the growing media and the application of nitrogen fertilizer. The highest number of fruits and biomass of fruits per plant obtained were significantly higher when the cucumbers were grown in WF/PS 50/50 growing media with additional N13 fertilization. Background: The microbial landscape within termite guts varies across termite families. The gut microbiota of lower termites (LT) is dominated by cellulolytic flagellates that sequester wood particles in their digestive vacuoles, whereas in the flagellate-free higher termites (HT), cellulolytic activity has been attributed to fiber-associated bacteria. However, little is known about the role of individual lineages in fiber digestion, particularly in LT. Results: We investigated the lignocellulolytic potential of 2223 metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) recovered from the gut metagenomes of 51 termite species. In the flagellate-dependent LT, cellulolytic enzymes are restricted to MAGs of Bacteroidota (Dysgonomonadaceae, Tannerellaceae, Bacteroidaceae, Azobacteroidaceae) and Spirochaetota (Breznakiellaceae) and reflect a specialization on cellodextrins, whereas their hemicellulolytic arsenal features activities on xylans and diverse heteropolymers. By contrast, the MAGs derived from flagellate-free HT possess a comprehensive arsenal of exo- and endoglucanases that resembles that of termite gut flagellates, underlining that Fibrobacterota and Spirochaetota occupy the cellulolytic niche that became vacant after the loss of the flagellates. Furthermore, we detected directly or indirectly oxygen-dependent enzymes that oxidize cellulose or modify lignin in MAGs of Pseudomonadota (Burkholderiales, Pseudomonadales) and Actinomycetota (Actinomycetales, Mycobacteriales), representing lineages located at the hindgut wall. Conclusions: The results of this study refine our concept of symbiotic digestion of lignocellulose in termite guts, emphasizing the differential roles of specific bacterial lineages in both flagellate-dependent and flagellate-independent breakdown of cellulose and hemicelluloses, as well as a so far unappreciated role of oxygen in the depolymerization of plant fiber and lignin in the microoxic periphery during gut passage in HT. Featured Application: Use of ancient materials for new technologies. In recent decades, fabric-dyeing processes involved greener processes because, since ancient times, dyers used mordants based on metals to make the color better adhere to the textile fibers, but this is the reason for their increased pollution. To develop new strategies, attention was focused on finding the best condition for a dyeing method for natural fibers of vegetable and animal origin (cotton and wool) using an ancient natural dye known as folium. Folium was used mostly in miniature painting in an attempt to avoid the use of classical mordants and solvents. To this purpose, plasma treatment and chitosan coating were employed. Firstly, the textile fibers were analyzed through infrared spectroscopies to verify surface modifications; subsequently, the post-treatment morphological variations were observed via scanning electron microscopy. Both techniques highlighted a significant variation of the surface functional groups due to plasma treatments with He-O2 mixtures, which allowed a greater adhesion of chitosan on the fiber's surface. Finally, the color strength of samples dyed with folium was tested through fiber optic reflectance spectroscopy, and the folium absorbance peaks were still detected after fabric washing. This paper aims to investigate the physical, mechanical, and chemical properties of papaya tree bast fibers (Carica papaya L) from different portions. Papaya bast fibers (PBFs) were extracted from the boiling process in three different portions of bast (PBF 1, PBF 2, and PBF 3). The physical properties of papaya bast fibers obtained were relative density 820–1130 kg/m3, count 14–22 Tex, diameter 600–767 µm, and wettability 78 to 86°. The mechanical properties were determined by strain (0.8–1.5%), tenacity (10.2–23.1 cN/Tex), tensile strength (4.4–7.8 MPa), Young's modulus (5.2–5.5 MPa) and specific modulus (5–6) through single fiber tensile test. Chemical properties were evaluated using FEG-SEM which showed a strong presence of cells in PBF 1, PBF 2, and PBF 3. FTIR and X-ray analysis proved that PBFs are rich in cellulose with a crystallinity index of 59.2%—67% of PBF 1 to PBF 3. The results revealed variations in the physical, mechanical, and chemical properties of PBFs among different portions. The papaya bast fibers showed properties, such as lightweight, porous, and mechanical properties, which are similar to other bast fibers, which are usually used in the manufacture of composites and applied in the packaging (food industry). In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into the physical, mechanical, and chemical properties of papaya bast fibers from different portions. Natural fiber composites are a renewable and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional synthetic materials that combine the biodegradability and essential durability of natural fibers with adaptability. Improved adhesion between fibers and matrix can be accomplished by comparing surface treatments applied to sugarcane, water hyacinth, and banana plant wastes. This will allow us to produce composite materials that are more durable and sustainable. To study the mechanical and morphological characteristics of the composites, two surface treatments were applied: gamma radiation at a dose of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 kGy and alkali treatment at a concentration of 5, 10, and 15%. The study revealed that with the increasing treatment of alkali solution, improvements in the composite's mechanical characteristics whereas gamma irradiation treatment enhanced the mechanical properties to a certain extent (2 kGy) after that the mechanical traits dwindled significantly. SEM, XRD, and FTIR analysis of the developed composite samples also revealed the reasons for the improvements in mechanical properties after alkali and gamma radiation treatments. The global spread of invasive plants is an important environmental problem and a real threat to biological diversity, with significant impacts on agriculture, forestry, and human and animal health. Invasive plant eradication produces large amounts of plant biomass, which should be safely utilized. The study reviews possibilities for using biomass of invasive plant species in the bioeconomy to safely convert them to items of value. Invasive plant biomass can be used as fuel or for energy production applying either biochemical or thermochemical processing technologies. The biomass of invasive plants also can be used for energy production or isolation of biologically active components. Invasive plants contain many groups of substances providing their defense potential against predators; these substances participate in metabolic regulation processes and others. Amongst the substances of interest for bioeconomy are lipids, polyphenols, alkaloids, carbohydrates, plant fibers, and essential oils. In the development of invasive plant biomass utilization strategies, the bio-based value pyramid and the waste hierarchy should be considered. "Latxa" sheep wool is rough, and it is not used in the textile industry because the fiber diameter is high compared with other wool fibers. Nowadays, this wool is considered as disposal and, with the aim to give it value, new uses must be explored. In the current work, the "Latxa" sheep wool fiber was evaluated as poly(lactic acid) (PLA) polymer reinforcement. With the objective to optimize fiber/matrix adhesion, fibers were surface modified with peroxide. Oxidation treatment with peroxide led to chemical modifications of the wool fibers that improved the fiber/PLA adhesion, but the strength values achieved for the composites were lower compared to the neat PLA ones. The mechanical properties obtained in the current work were compared with the literature data of the PLA composites reinforced with vegetable fibers. The wool fibers showed inferior mechanical properties compared to the vegetable fiber counterparts. This study aims to combine, using a numerical tool, different phenomena of hygromechanical coupling in a unidirectional carbon/epoxy composite and to compare the results obtained with the cases where these couplings are considered separately. The first case of coupling considers the effect produced by the mechanical state on the diffusive behavior of the material. This was accomplished using the free volume theory, which links the trace of the matrix strain tensor to the moisture absorption capacity and the diffusion coefficient. The second case takes into account plasticization, that is, the effect of humidity on the mechanical properties of composites, without modifying the diffusion parameters. Finally, these two mechanisms are combined in a third configuration, which represents the original contribution of this present work. The results include the water content profiles, the diffusion coefficient, the transverse Young's modulus, the transverse hygroscopic expansion coefficient, as well as the induced local mechanical states. The interest of the work carried out is to pave the way for the extension to more complex materials, such as plant fiber biocomposites, in which the water absorption by the hydrophilic fibers should not be neglected anymore. In recent years, numerous researchers have incorporated plant fibers into polymers to alter the thermal and mechanical properties of materials. Grapevines, considered agricultural waste, have led to burdens for farmers and environmental challenges due to their mass production. This study aims to reduce the brittleness of polylactic acid (PLA) by adding polybutylene succinate (PBS) as a toughening agent and employing grapevine fiber (GVF) as a biomass filler. Additionally, the influence of GVF, toughening agents, compatibilizers, and lubrication agents on the tensile strength, heat deflection temperature (HDT), and impact strength of the composites was examined. The findings revealed that the addition of 10% GVF and 5% PBS increased the impact and tensile strengths of PLA from 17.47 J/m and 49.74 MPa to 29.7 J/m and 54.46 MPa, respectively. Moreover, the HDT of the composites exceeded 120 °C when the GVF content was more than 40 wt%. Additionally, the inclusion of a compatibilizer and a lubrication agent enabled the composite containing 30% GVF to achieve tensile and impact strengths of 45.30 MPa and 25.52 J/m, respectively. In this work, natural fibers extracted from the medicinal aromatic plant Deverra tortuosa, with different sizes (S1 = 2 mm and S2 = 500 μm), were incorporated into recycled low density polyethylene (rLDPE) to produce sustainable biocomposites. Compounding was performed with different fiber concentrations (0 to 30% wt.) via twin-screw extrusion followed by injection molding. Based on the samples obtained, a comprehensive series of characterization was conducted, encompassing morphological and mechanical (flexural, tensile, hardness, and impact) properties. Additionally, thermal properties were assessed via differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), while Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was used to elucidate potential chemical interactions and changes with processing. Across the range of conditions investigated, substantial improvements were observed in the rLDPE properties, in particular for the tensile modulus (23% for S1 and 104% for S2), flexural modulus (47% for S1 and 61% for S2), and flexural strength (31% for S1 and 65% for S2). Nevertheless, the tensile strength decreased (15% for S1 and 46% for S2) due to poor fiber–matrix interfacial adhesion. The construction sector is one of the main sources of pollution, due to high energy consumption and the toxic substances generated during the processing and use of traditional materials. The production of cement, steel, and other conventional materials impacts both ecosystems and human health, increasing the demand for ecological and biodegradable alternatives. In this paper, we analyze the properties of panels made from a combination of plant fibers and castor oil resin, analyzing the viability of their use as construction material. For the research, orthogonal fabrics made with waste plant fibers supplied by a company that deals with the manufacture of furniture and craft products were used. These fabrics were made with strips of plant fibers of the Calamus rotang, Bambusa vulgaris, Heteropsis flexuosa, and Salix viminalis species. To improve their compatibility with the castor oil resin, a cold argon plasma treatment was applied. The effect of the treatment on the properties of the fibers and the panels was analyzed. The density, water absorption capacity, and swelling percentage were evaluated. Tensile, compression, static bending, and linear buckling tests were carried out. The study found that panels made with treated fiber fabrics exhibited a reduction of approximately 10% in absorption capacity and up to 35% in swelling percentage values. Panels made with Bambusa vulgaris fabrics exhibited the highest strength and stiffness values. Numerical models were constructed using commercial finite element software. When comparing the numerical results with the experimental ones, differences of less than 15% were seen, demonstrating that the models allow adequately predicting the analyzed properties. On comparing the values obtained with the characteristic values of oriented strand board, the results suggest that panels made with unconventional materials could replace commercial panels traditionally made with wood-based fibers and particles and other composite materials in several applications in the construction industry. Plant fibers have the characteristics of light weight, high specific strength and high elongation at break, which can improve the shortcomings of concrete such as easy cracking, low tensile strength and brittle damage. At the same time, plant fibers can improve the thermal insulation properties and durability of concrete. First of all, the chemical composition and mechanical characteristics of various commonly used plant fibers were analyzed, and the modification methods of plant fibers were also discussed. Then, the researches of domestic and foreign scholars on mechanical properties, hydration characteristics, thermal insulation properties and other properties of plant fiber reinforced concrete were analyzed and summarized in detail. And the following conclusions are drawn: when using plant fibers to enhance the strength of concrete, the long fiber lay-flat method has the best effect on the enhancement of tensile strength, while the short fiber in-mixing method has a wider range of applications, and at the same time, a variety of factors, such as fiber length, fiber content, and water-cement ratio, affect the mechanical properties of concrete; plant fibers can retard the release of heat of hydration by changing the hydration characteristics of cement, thus enhancing the crack resistance of mass concrete; plant fibers can improve the thermal insulation properties and durability of concrete, and reduce the cracking of concrete through the endotrophic effect of plant fibers on concrete. Cellulose, a naturally abundant biopolymer, holds great potential as a sustainable alternative to synthetic fibers. However, the limited understanding and awareness surrounding cellulose utilization, particularly from agricultural origins, have impeded the complete harnessing of this highly biodegradable resource. This study aimed to extract and characterize cellulose from jute and banana fibers. The extracted cellulose exhibits a light yellow to white color, and microscopic analysis of the fibers showed micro‐fibrils. X‐ray diffraction (XRD) characterization indicated that the extracted cellulose from biomass primarily consists of cellulose II structures, except for the treated banana fiber (M:L = 1:8), which contains both cellulose I and II. Moreover, increasing the M:L ratio of alkali treatment enhanced the percentage of cellulose‐II, as observed from the XRD data. The findings of this study carry significant implications for the efficient production of cellulose fibers, with diverse applications spanning from high‐volume products like regenerated fibers, automotive parts, packaging, absorbent products (diapers), textiles, and precast concrete, drug delivery mediums, electronics, additive manufacturing, bone and tissue scaffolding, and so on. Researchers have compared natural jute fiber to synthetic fibers due to their distinct physical and mechanical properties, which have been recognized for decades. Jute fibers are a very versatile type of vegetable fibers widely used in structural composites and it has also shown potential in various applications such as nanoparticles, building interior, and automotive components. However, designing jute composite parts is a challenging task due to plant origin, growth conditions, age, stem location, extraction method, and non‐uniform fiber cross section. The distribution of lignin in forage was discussed in detail, the in vitro digestion of forage was analyzed, and the preparation methods of lignin was summarized. A new technical idea of enrichment of herbivorous animal excrement, purification of lignin and preparation of oxygen pressure leaching dispersant was put forward. By using herbivorous animals to digest, decompose and absorb nutrients such as protein, fat, starch and crude fiber in plants, lignin remains in the excrement and natural enrichment of lignin was realized. Lignosulfonate was prepared from herbivorous animal excrement, which increases the unit output of lignosulfonate and reduces the processing cost. Rabbits can efficiently utilize plant fibers that are indigestible to humans, and hence may contribute to the alleviation of feed–food competition. Therefore, it is economically and ecologically important to genetically improve the growth performance and feed efficiency of meat rabbits. In this study, we combined pedigree, genomic, and gut microbiota data to estimate genetic and microbial parameters for nine growth and feed efficiency traits of 739 New Zealand White rabbits, including body weight (BW) at 35 (BW35), 70 (BW70), and 84 (BW84) days of age, and average daily gain (ADG), feed conversion ratio (FCR), and residual feed intake (RFI) within two age intervals of 35–70 days (ADG70, FCR70, and RFI70) and 35–84 days (ADG84, FCR84, and RFI84). Based on single-step genomic best linear unbiased prediction, three BW traits and two ADG traits had the high estimates (±standard error, SE) of heritability, ranging from 0.44 ± 0.13 of BW35 to 0.66 ± 0.08 of BW70. Moderate heritabilities were observed for RFI70 (0.22 ± 0.07) and RFI84 (0.29 ± 0.07), whereas the estimates did not significantly deviate from zero for the two FCR traits. There was moderate positive genetic correlation (±SE) between BW70 and ADG70 (0.579 ± 0.086), but BW70 did not correlate with RFI70. Based on microbial best linear unbiased prediction, the estimates of microbiability did not significantly deviate from zero for any trait. Hibernation is an energy-saving and adaptive strategy adopted by a diverse array of animals, rarely including warm-climate species, to survive in the harsh winter environment. Here, we collected large-intestinal microbial samples from two species of warm-climate lizards, one (the Reeves' butterfly lizard Leiolepis reevesii) hibernating in the winter months and one (the many-lined sun skink Eutropis multifasciata) not doing so, in summer and winter to analyze and compare their microbiota using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing technology. Gut microbiota were seasonally variable in L. reevesii but not in E. multifasciata. The decreased Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio and increased relative abundance of Verrucomicrobia in hibernating butterfly lizards in a state of long-term fasting should help them live through the winter months, as bacteria of the phyla Bacteroidetes and Verrucomicrobia can use host-derived mucin glycans in the absence of dietary substrates. Facultative plant feeding by omnivorous butterfly lizards resulted in a significant increase in the relative abundance of bacteria of the phylum Firmicutes (e.g., Lachnospiraceae) with the ability to degrade plant fibers. This study not only validates the role of gut microbiota in dietary adaptation in lizards but also shows that gut microbial communities are seasonally variable in warm-climate lizards hibernating in the winter months. The integration of natural fibers into Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRPs) has emerged as a promising avenue for sustainable and high-performance composite materials. Natural fibers, derived from plants, offer notable advantages such as renewability, low cost, and environmental friendliness. Among these natural fibers, Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis (HRS) plant fibers have gained significant attention owing to their widespread availability and unique mechanical properties. In this study, HRS fibers were chemically treated using Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH), Potassium Permanganate (KMnO4), and Acetic Acid (CH3COOH) at different weight percentages (3, 4, 5 Wt.%) and solutionizing times (1, 2, 3 h) based on Taguchi's L27 orthogonal array. The fibers, extracted from epidermis of the stems, underwent cleaning and chemical treatment after water retting. The crystallinity index, determined via X-ray Diffraction (XRD), indicated a maximum value of 65.77%. Thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) exhibited a degradation temperature of 365.24 °C and a material loss of 63.11%. Potassium Permanganate treatment at 4 Wt.% and 3 h of solutionizing time has yielded the best results. Multi-Layer Perceptron Artificial Neural Network (MLP-ANN) has been successfully applied to accurately predict the output physical characteristics of chemically treated HRS fibers using experimental data. The results are in close alignment with the literature. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) analyses have provided valuable insights into the microstructure and constituents of the chemically treated HRS fibers. Background: A few studies have examined the association between different types of dietary fiber as well as their sources and the risk of breast cancer (BC) and the present study aimed to investigate these associations in a case-control study among Iranian women. Methods: A total of 464 women with pathologically confirmed breast cancer within the past year and 498 age-matched healthy controls were included. Dietary intakes were assessed using a 168-item food frequency questionnaire. The association between dietary soluble, insoluble, total dietary fiber, as well as, fiber from fruits, vegetables, legumes, cereals, and nuts intake with odds of breast cancer was assessed using multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results: Mean total dietary fiber intake of patients with and without cancer were 33.1 ± 15.3 g per day (g/d) and 34.2 ± 16.5 (g/d), respectively. Dietary total fiber (OR = 0.65; 95%CI: 0.47–0.90, Ptrend = 0.01), insoluble fiber (OR = 0.68; 95%CI: 0.49–0.93, Ptrend = 0.01), fruits' fiber (OR = 0.68; 95%CI: 0.49–0.94, Ptrend = 0.02), and vegetables' fiber (OR = 0.66; 95%CI: 0.48–0.91, Ptrend = 0.01) were significantly associated with reduced likelihood of developing breast cancer in all participants. Furthermore, dietary total and insoluble fiber, as well as, fiber from fruits were significantly associated with lower odds of breast cancer in premenopausal women (P < 0.05). In contrast, cereals' fiber significantly increased the risk of breast cancer by 84% in premenopausal women (OR = 1.84; 95%CI: 1.18–2.86, Ptrend = 0.009). In postmenopausal women, cereals' fiber had a significant inverse association with odds of breast cancer (OR = 0.56; 95%CI: 0.31–1.03, Ptrend = 0.04). Also, fiber from vegetables was significantly associated with a lower risk of breast cancer in postmenopausal women (OR = 0.53; 95%CI: 0.30–0.94, Ptrend = 0.03). Conclusion: Dietary fiber intake and more specifically insoluble, fruits', and vegetables' fiber intake might be associated with a reduced breast cancer risk, particularly in premenopausal women. Highlights To explore the potential application of plant fiber reinforced composites for automotive component applications, this study prepared bamboo fiber (BF)/nano‐talc/polypropylene (PP) composites based on the injection molding process, comprehensively evaluated the effect of reinforcement materials on the forming properties of composites, including thermal performance, mechanical properties, water absorption, etc. Furthermore, taking a certain automotive injection molded interior part as the object, a life‐cycle assessment from production to the gate was conducted based on the real energy and material consumption during the composite preparation process. The results indicate that adding BF and talc powder increased the thermal stability, density, hardness, viscosity, and crystallinity of the composites while reducing the water contact angle on the surface. Surface‐modified BF and PP showed good compatibility. Talc powder exhibited good dispersibility in PP, and the synergistic effect of BF and talc powder effectively enhanced the composite performance. The tensile, flexural, and impact strength of the composites were improved by 40.64%, 51.48%, and 66.51%, respectively, compared with pure PP. The modulus of the composite increased nearly 2 times compared with pure PP. Additionally, the composite demonstrated good friction and wear properties. The environmental impact of the BF composite manufacturing process was significantly higher than that of pure PP. The substantial consumption of electricity, chemicals, and water resources in the extraction and modification processes of BF were the main factors. The findings of this study contribute to achieving green, high‐performance BF composite manufacturing and the expansion of its applications. Composites have a higher environmental impact compared to PP. BF and talc can synergistically enhance the performance of composites. BF shows good compatibility with PP. The peach fruit fly (PFF), Bactrocera zonata (Saunders, 1841) (Diptera: Tephritidae) is a destructive polyphagous pest infesting a lot of horticultural fruits and some vegetables. At Damietta governorate, Egypt, the present study aimed to maximize the efficiency of the male annihilation technique (MAT) by estimating different types of blocks (as dispensers) impregnated with different doses (3, 6, and 9 cm³/block) of methyl eugenol to attract PFF males in guava orchards. Two different types of blocks [Hard woodpulpluff (HWF) and plant fibers] were selected for the present study. These blocks were tested as uncovered blocks and covered with aluminum polyethylene polyester. The study was carried out over eight successive weeks (from 27th September to 15th November 2023). The obtained results showed that the covered HWF blocks impregnated with the dose of 9 cm³/block were superior in attracting PFF males all over the investigation period followed by uncovered plant fibers, uncovered HWF, and covered plant fibers' blocks. There were positive relationships between the captured PFF males and the concentration of methyl eugenol. The covered HWF blocks were relatively more stable against elapsed time in comparison with uncovered HWF or plant fibers' blocks. In conclusion, the covered HWF blocks were more effective dispensers all over eight weeks for methyl eugenol to attract PFF males in comparison with uncovered HWF blocks and plant fibers. Introduction: designing functional foods to control appetite could be a useful strategy for managing overweight and obesity. Fiber and proteins could be interesting ingredients to consider. Objectives: to evaluate the appetite profile of two experimental yogurts (fiber-enriched [FEY] and vegetable protein-enriched [PEY]) versus a control yogurt (CY) in a group of overweight/obesity people. Material and methods: an acute, randomized, double-blind, crossover clinical trial was carried out in a group of twelve healthy overweight/obesity type I people; randomized to consume 3 yogurts in a different order for 3 acute study days. The appetite profile (1. hunger, 2. satiety, 3. fullness, 4. prospective food consumption, 5. desire to eat something fatty, salty, sweet or savoury) was assessed using a Visual Analog Scale (ranging from 0 "not at all" to 10 "extremely") at 12 moments in each acute study. Additionally, total food consumption in an ad libitum lunch was assessed. Results: FEY produce a significantly lower desire to consume any food at 30 (1.50 ± 0.42) and 60 minutes (2.78 ± 0.42) after consumption compared to PEY (3.46 ± 0.53; 4.33 ± 0.54) and CY (3.27 ± 0.69; 4.0 ± 0.78) respectively (p < 0.016). Also, FEY consumption produced a higher satiety and fullness and a lower desire to ingest something fatty, salty or savory after 90 minutes consumption compared to the other products, but the difference was not significance. Natural fibers have been widely employed in different fields as composite materials. However, the thermal behavior of natural materials is not fully understood since the chemical components chemically interact with each other. Put simply, the thermal degradation kinetics of natural fibers are of crucial importance in the academic and industrial fields. This study objectively fully investigated the thermal behavior of different natural fibers using the thermal kinetic method criteria, as described by the ICTAC (International Committee of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry). The kinetic triplet (activation energy, pre-exponential factor, and reaction mechanism) was determined as a function of the conversion degree. For all plant fibers, the results indicated an autocatalytic process with an average activation energy and pre-exponential factor of 200 kJ·mol−1 and 40 s−1, respectively. The activation energy can be mainly attributed to the cellulose component, while the pre-exponential factor is due to the possible compensation effect as a mathematical artifact of the Arrhenius-based equation. Finally, the lifetime prediction of the plant fibers was estimated using the pre-determined kinetic triplet parameters to estimate the plant fiber stability under isothermal conditions. This study is a comparative assessment of polypropylene composites reinforced with two different range size of Agave Americana fibers. The first is from 125 to 630 microns, named as Short Agave Fiber (SHAF), and the second range is beyond 630 microns, named as Long Agave Fiber (LAF). The composites were produced by twin-screw extrusion and injection molding processes. The composite manufacturing by this interior part of plant agave fibers is mentioned in the first time in the literature. The fiber content for the SHAF and LAF composites was chosen as 10 wt. %. It was found that better mechanical properties were achieved with LAF composite which increased by 301.4% compared with the neat PP. This was explained by LAF features compared to SHAF such as the higher cellulose content LAF (73.5%) and SHAF (40.3%), the higher crystallinity index was obtained better thermal stability which led to a composite which is more crystalline, more thermally stable and stiffer. Mullite fibers possess low thermal conductivity, excellent high-temperature stability, and thermal shock resistance, making them extensively utilized in high-temperature heat-insulating components. However, the majority of current mullite fibers have solid structures, limiting the potential for further enhancement of their heat-insulating properties. Metaplexis fiber, a plant fiber with a hollow structure, effectively obstructs heat transfer, and therefore exhibits excellent heat-insulating properties. In this study, we employed metaplexis fibers as templates to fabricate mullite fibers with hollow structures. First, a precursor solution was prepared using Al(NO 3) 3 ·9H 2 O and ethyl orthosilicate as the solute and anhydrous ethanol as the solvent. The metaplexis fibers were immersed in the solution, removed, and dried to obtain precursor fibers. Finally, the precursor fibers were heated to the target temperature to obtain hollow mullite fibers. The investigation focused on the impact of preparation parameters such as sintering temperature, precursor solution concentration, and aluminum–silicon molar ratio on the morphologies, phases, pore-size distributions, and thermal conductivities of the resulting hollow mullite fibers. The results demonstrated that the prepared mullite fibers inherited the hollow structure of metaplexis fibers, with the cavity diameter in the range of 3–6 μm and porosity of 91 %. Compared to traditional solid mullite fibers, the thermal insulation performance was improved by more than 59 %. These findings highlight the significant potential of hollow ceramic fibers for the development of heat-insulating materials. Kraft pulping of wood is based on efficient depolymerization and solubilization of lignin, while cellulose is relatively undamaged. Non-cellulose cell wall polysaccharides are however in some cases heavily degraded, especially pectin and to a lesser degree also glucomannan while, xylan is relatively stable. In this mini-review, the most important reactions in lignin and polysaccharide degradation in kraft pulping are described, both the technically favorable and the problematic reactions, and the chemical background to discuss the advantages and drawbacks of the process. An attempt to put the different reactions in the perspective of the goals of the pulping process is made and a special focus is on the development of color in the pulp fiber during the kraft pulping. Nowadays, materials with a limited impact on the environment are required in the construction sector. Considering the interesting properties of natural elements such as natural fibers, it seems advantageous to use them to reinforce materials while protecting the environment and guaranteeing economic gain. Along these lines, this research was devoted to studying the effect of untreated natural fibers extracted from the Juncus maritimus plant (from Southern Morocco) on plaster. First, the effect of the percentage of added fibers on the fluidity of the plaster was evaluated by means of the Marsh's cone method, that is, by measuring the time taken by a known volume of plaster to flow from a cone through a short tube. Then, the highly porous microstructure of the plaster was observed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The diffractogram of Juncus maritimus fibers was built by means of a X-ray diffraction (XRD) method. The values obtained for the wet thermal conductivity of the composites decreased from 0.4853 W/m.K for the reference specimen to 0.4324 W/m K for a fiber volume content of 40%. The densities were calculated to determine the lightness of each composite. The mechanical strengths [flexural and compressive] were evaluated for different percentages of rush fibers. The addition of 20% volume fiber was found to improve the flexural strength to 3.63 MPa compared to the sample without fiber (3.36 MPa), thereby ensuring good toughness of the considered material. Field trials were conducted in 2021 and 2022 to evaluate the effects of planting date (mid‐March, mid‐April, and mid‐May) on 11 fiber hemp (Cannabis sativa L. <0.3% total tetrahydrocannabinol) varieties. Trials were conducted in Goldsboro, Kinston, and Salisbury, NC. Each location followed a split‐plot randomized complete block design with at least three blocks where planting date was the main‐plot and variety the sub‐plot. Varieties investigated originated from China and Australia (2021 only). Data collection included flowering time, end of season stand counts, stem height, diameter, and final retted dry straw yield. We found differences among the varieties investigated in both years; however, no distinct trend was observed across years. All varieties investigated flowered at the end of August and beginning of September, allowing for a long growing season and ability to produce abundant biomass. In general, the Chinese genetics yielded higher stem biomass compared to previously reported European genetics. Stem thickness was >7.5 mm, which is generally considered the maximum width for textile‐grade fiber production. To achieve thinner stems from the varieties investigated, harvesting prior to male‐flower initiation may be required. The crop experienced temperatures below freezing in both years with no signs of damage. Taken together, farmers seeking to plant fiber hemp in North Carolina have a wide planting window from mid‐March to mid‐May using these Chinese varieties. Abstract High sugar consumption is associated with cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. Current sugar substitutes may cause taste sensations and gastrointestinal symptoms. ENSO 16 is a combination of 16 different sugar substitutes and plant fibers and has been designed as a sugar alternative. The impact on plasma glucose metabolism as well as on gastrointestinal tolerance has not been investigated yet. 17 healthy participants were enrolled in this randomized, double-blind trial. Participants received a single oral dose of 30 g glucose or 30 g ENSO 16 and crossed over to the alternate treatment after a 7 day wash out period. The study endpoint was the effect on plasma glucose, insulin, C-peptide concentrations and gastrointestinal disorders. A questionnaire regarding gastrointestinal symptoms was used for individual subjective scoring. The mean baseline adjusted plasma glucose AUC0–180 min was significantly greater after glucose administration compared to ENSO 16 (n = 15, p = 0.0128, paired t-test). Maximum plasma glucose elevation over baseline was 117 mg*dl−1 and 20 mg*dl−1 after oral glucose or ENSO 16, respectively. Due to their great physical and mechanical behaviors, polymers have become essential in various industries. Polymers have been produced using chemical monomer synthesis, potentially dangerous non-biodegradable waste in the environment. Therefore, biopolymers are introduced, and organic compounds are found in natural sources as monomeric units. Also, biopolymers were discovered to be biodegradable and biocompatible, and these biopolymers are beneficial in numerous applications. Natural plant fibers have drawn more attention recently as potential reinforcing materials. The composites made with natural fibers have excellent mechanical and thermal characteristics. Materials made of natural fibers are inexpensive, recyclable, and environmentally beneficial. These natural fibers are excellent candidates to replace conventional fibers due to their biodegradability and eco-friendliness. The adhesion between the fibers and matrix has the most impact on the mechanical characteristics of composites. The mechanical characteristics of the composites were improved by combining chemical and physical modification techniques to increase fiber–matrix adhesion. The main objective of this study is to provide a thorough understanding of common types of biopolymers, various natural fibers, fillers, chemical treatments, and the performance of biopolymers and their composites-reinforced natural fibers. Microcellular foamed plant fiber composites have the advantages of low density, low cost, and biodegradability, so it has great development potential in the industry. Nevertheless, the existence of cellular structures diminishes the mechanical performance of plant fiber composites. To overcome this problem, in this study, nano‐CaCO3 was used to enhance the microcellular foamed plant fiber composites, and the three‐phase thermoplastic composites, comprised of nano‐CaCO3, rice‐husk fiber, and polypropylene (PP), were fabricated using a chemical foaming injection molding technique. The study analyzed how the nano‐CaCO3 concentration affected the melt viscosity, crystallization characteristics, mechanical properties, and cellular structure of the composites. According to the findings, the mechanical characteristics of microcellular foamed three‐phase thermoplastic composites were enhanced initially and subsequently diminished as the nano‐CaCO3 content was augmented, and obtained optimal value at 2 wt% nano‐CaCO3 content. By observing the cells of microcellular foamed three‐phase thermoplastic composites in vertical and parallel melt flow directions, it was found that the nano‐CaCO3 content of 2 wt% three‐phase thermoplastic composite had the best cellular structure. Highlights In the global pursuit of using sustainable component materials, reinforcement materials derived from agricultural straw waste have attracted widespread attention to develop polymer composites. However, the polar and hydrophilic properties of straw fibers limit their interfacial adhesion behavior, which leads to poor physico‐mechanical and tribological properties of the resulting polymer composites. In this work, cotton straw fibers (CSFs) were derived from agricultural cotton straw wastes, and then were treated with sodium hydroxide solutions of different concentrations (0–7 wt.%). Physical and mechanical properties were analyzed and tribological properties of the developed CSF reinforced polymer composites were investigated systematically. The experiment results indicated that the incorporation of treated‐CSFs in the polymer composite had less effect on the density, whereas it significantly enhanced the water absorption, impact strength and tribological properties. The worn surface morphology analysis revealed that the addition of the treated‐CSFs is conducive to the formation of the contact plateaus, which is in turn beneficial in improving the wear resistance of the treated‐CSF reinforced polymer composites. Overall, the developed polymer composites reinforced with the treated‐CSFs have shown better physico‐mechanical and tribological properties. The present work confirms the possibility of using agricultural corn straw waste as reinforcement fibers, and then paves the path for the development of future commercial plant fiber reinforced polymer composites. The usability of cotton straw waste as a reinforcement in polymer composite was investigated. The physico‐mechanical and tribological properties of the polymer composites were evaluated. The alkali‐treated cotton straw fibres were more effective in improving the impact resistance and tribological properties. Brake friction material reinforced with coconut fiber and dypsis lutescens fiber was designed and prepared in this study. Specimens incorporating 0–8 wt.% of coconut fibers or dypsis lutescens fibers were fabricated. The effect of the content of these reinforcing fibers on the overall properties of brake friction materials was systematically investigated. The results indicate that the inclusion of reinforcing fibers in the formulation of brake friction materials can improve the physical properties and friction and wear properties of brake friction materials. The specimen incorporating 6 wt.% plant fiber obtained the optimal comprehensive performance with excellent fade resistance and recovery properties, and better wear resistance. In order to further investigate their performance, nine hybrid fiber brake friction materials were designed using the golden section method and orthogonal test method. The study indicated that the F-6 hybrid fiber-reinforced brake friction materials have better physical properties, thermal degradation resistance, recovery properties, and abrasion resistance than the single-fiber-reinforced brake friction materials.
