The physical mechanisms regulating the power sharing at the outer targets of L-mode double-null (DN) configurations are investigated using nonlinear, flux-driven, three-dimensional two-fluid simulations. Scans of parameters that regulate the turbulent level, such as the plasma resistivity and the magnetic imbalance, reveal that the power asymmetry in DN configurations is determined by the combined effects of diamagnetic drift, turbulence, and geometrical factor. Leveraging these observations, an analytical theory-based scaling law for the power-sharing asymmetry is derived and compared with nonlinear simulations. These comparisons indicate that the scaling law effectively captures the trends observed in simulations. Intraventricular vector flow mapping (iVFM) seeks to enhance and quantify color Doppler in cardiac imaging. In this study, we propose novel alternatives to the traditional iVFM optimization scheme by utilizing physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) and a physics-guided nnU-Net-based supervised approach. When evaluated on simulated color Doppler images derived from a patient-specific computational fluid dynamics model and in vivo Doppler acquisitions, both approaches demonstrate comparable reconstruction performance to the original iVFM algorithm. The efficiency of PINNs is boosted through dual-stage optimization and pre-optimized weights. On the other hand, the nnU-Net method excels in generalizability and real-time capabilities. Notably, nnU-Net shows superior robustness on sparse and truncated Doppler data while maintaining independence from explicit boundary conditions. Overall, our results highlight the effectiveness of these methods in reconstructing intraventricular vector blood flow. Studying the process of divertor detachment and the associated complex interplay of plasma dynamics and atomic physics processes is of utmost importance for future fusion reactors. Whilst simplified analytical models exist to interpret the general features of detachment, they are limited in their predictive power, and complex 2D or even 3D codes are generally required to provide a self-consistent picture of the divertor. As an intermediate step, 1D models of the Scrape-Off Layer (SOL) can be particularly insightful as the dynamics are greatly simplified, while still self-consistently including various source and sink terms at play, as well as additional important effects such as flows. These codes can be used to shed light on the physics at play, to perform fast parameter scans, or to interpret experiments. In this paper, we introduce the SPLEND1D (Simulator of PLasma ENabling Detachment in 1D) code: a fast and versatile 1D SOL model. We present in detail the model that is implemented in SPLEND1D. We then employ the code to explore various elements of detachment physics for parameters typical of the Tokamak \`a Configuration Variable (TCV), including the atomic physics and other processes behind power and momentum losses, and explore the various hypotheses and free parameters of the model.

L-mode negative triangularity (NT) operation is a promising alternative to the positive triangularity (PT) H-mode as a high-confinement ELM-free operational regime. In this work, two TCV L-mode lower single null Ohmic discharges with opposite triangularity $\delta \simeq \pm 0.3$ are investigated using SOLPS-ITER modelling. The main focus is the exploration of the reasons behind the experimentally observed feature of NT plasmas being more difficult to detach than similar PT experiments. SOLPS-ITER simulations are performed assuming the same anomalous diffusivity for particles $D_n^{AN}$ and energy $\kappa_{e/i}^{AN}$ in PT and NT. Nonetheless, the results clearly show dissimilar transport and accumulation of neutral particles in the scrape-off layer (SOL) of the two configurations, which consequently gives rise to different ionization sources for the plasma and produces different poloidal and cross-field fluxes. Various applications ranging from robotics to climate science require modeling signals on non-Euclidean domains, such as the sphere. Gaussian process models on manifolds have recently been proposed for such tasks, in particular when uncertainty quantification is needed. In the manifold setting, vector-valued signals can behave very differently from scalar-valued ones, with much of the progress so far focused on modeling the latter. The former, however, are crucial for many applications, such as modeling wind speeds or force fields of unknown dynamical systems. In this paper, we propose novel Gaussian process models for vector-valued signals on manifolds that are intrinsically defined and account for the geometry of the space in consideration. We provide computational primitives needed to deploy the resulting Hodge-Mat\'ern Gaussian vector fields on the two-dimensional sphere and the hypertori. Further, we highlight two generalization directions: discrete two-dimensional meshes and "ideal" manifolds like hyperspheres, Lie groups, and homogeneous spaces. In recent years, negative triangularity (NT) has emerged as a potential high-confinement L-mode reactor solution. In this work, detachment is investigated using core density ramps in lower single null Ohmic L-mode plasmas across a wide range of upper, lower, and average triangularity (the mean of upper and lower triangularity: $\delta$) in the TCV tokamak. It is universally found that detachment is more difficult to access for NT shaping. The outer divertor leg of discharges with $\delta\approx -0.3$ could not be cooled to below $5~\mathrm{eV}$ through core density ramps alone. The behavior of the upstream plasma and geometrical divertor effects (e.g. a reduced connection length with negative lower triangularity) do not fully explain the challenges in detaching NT plasmas. Langmuir probe measurements of the target heat flux widths ($\lambda_q$) were constant to within 30% across an upper triangularity scan, while the spreading factor $S$ was lower by up to 50% for NT, indicating a generally lower integral Scrape-Off Layer width, $\lambda_{int}$. The line-averaged core density was typically higher for NT discharges for a given fuelling rate, possibly linked to higher particle confinement in NT. Conversely, the divertor neutral pressure and integrated particle fluxes to the targets were typically lower for the same line-averaged density, indicating that NT configurations may be closer to the sheath-limited regime than their PT counterparts, which may explain why NT is more challenging to detach.

The Super-X Divertor (SXD) is an alternative divertor configuration leveraging total flux expansion at the Outer Strike Point (OSP). While the extended 2-Point Model (2PM) predicts facilitated detachment access and control in the SXD configuration, these attractive features are not always retrieved experimentally. These discrepancies are at least partially explained by the effect of parallel flows which, when self-consistently included in the 2PM, reveal the role of total flux expansion on the pressure balance and weaken the total flux expansion effect on detachment access and control, compared to the original predictions. This new model can partially explain the discrepancies between the 2PM and experiments performed on tokamak \`a configuration variable (TCV), in ohmic L-mode scenarios, which are particularly apparent when scanning the OSP major radius Rt. In core density ramps in lower Single-Null (SN) configuration, the impact of Rt on the CIII emission front movement in the divertor outer leg - used as a proxy for the plasma temperature in the divertor - is substantially weaker than 2PM predictions. Furthermore, in OSP radial sweeps in lower and upper SN configurations, in ohmic L-mode scenarios with a constant core density, the peak parallel particle flux density at the OSP is almost independent of Rt, while the 2PM predicts a linear dependence. Finally, analytical and numerical modeling of parallel flows in the divertor is presented. It is shown that an increase in total flux expansion can favour supersonic flows at the OSP. Over a field of characteristic zero, we show that the forgetful functor from the homotopy category of commutative dg algebras to the homotopy category of dg associative algebras is faithful. In fact, the induced map of derived mapping spaces gives an injection on all homotopy groups at any basepoint. We prove similar results both for unital and non-unital algebras, and also Koszul dually for the universal enveloping algebra functor from dg Lie algebras to dg associative algebras. An important ingredient is a natural model for these derived mapping spaces as Maurer-Cartan spaces of complete filtered dg Lie algebras (or curved Lie algebras, in the unital case)., Comment: 14 pages

This paper proposes a new method to generate synthetic data sets based on copula models. Our goal is to produce surrogate data resembling real data in terms of marginal and joint distributions. We present a complete and reliable algorithm for generating a synthetic data set comprising numeric or categorical variables. Applying our methodology to two datasets shows better performance compared to other methods such as SMOTE and autoencoders.

In classification problems, supervised machine-learning methods outperform traditional algorithms, thanks to the ability of neural networks to learn complex patterns. However, in two-class classification tasks like anomaly or fraud detection, unsupervised methods could do even better, because their prediction is not limited to previously learned types of anomalies. An intuitive approach of anomaly detection can be based on the distances from the centers of mass of the two respective classes. Autoencoders, although trained without supervision, can also detect anomalies: considering the center of mass of the normal points, reconstructions have now radii, with largest radii most likely indicating anomalous points. Of course, radii-based classification were already possible without interposing an autoencoder. In any space, radial classification can be operated, to some extent. In order to outperform it, we proceed to radial deformations of data (i.e. centric compression or expansions of axes) and autoencoder training. Any autoencoder that makes use of a data center is here baptized a centric autoencoder (cAE). A special type is the cAE trained with a uniformly compressed dataset, named the centripetal autoencoder (cpAE). The new concept is studied here in relation with a schematic artificial dataset, and the derived methods show consistent score improvements. But tested on real banking data, our radial deformation supervised algorithms alone still perform better that cAEs, as expected from most supervised methods; nonetheless, in hybrid approaches, cAEs can be combined with a radial deformation of space, improving its classification score. We expect that centric autoencoders will become irreplaceable objects in anomaly live detection based on geometry, thanks to their ability to stem naturally on geometrical algorithms and to their native capability of detecting unknown anomaly types.

Intraventricular vector flow mapping (iVFM) is a technique for retrieving 2-D velocity vector fields of blood flow in the left ventricle. This method is based on conventional color Doppler imaging, which makes iVFM compatible with the clinical setting. We have generalized the iVFM for a three-dimensional reconstruction (3D-iVFM). 3D-iVFM is able to recover three-component velocity vector fields in a full intraventricular volume by using a clinical echocardiographic triplane mode. As with the 2-D version, the method is based on the mass conservation, and free-slip boundary conditions on the endocardial wall. These mechanical constraints were imposed in a least-squares minimization problem that was solved through the method of Lagrange multipliers. We validated 3D-iVFM in silico in a patient-specific CFD (computational fluid dynamics) model of cardiac flow, and tested its feasibility in vivo on volunteers. In both in silico and in vivo investigations, the dynamics of the intraventricular vortex that forms during diastole was deciphered by 3D-iVFM. Our results tend to indicate that 3D-iVFM could provide full-volume echocardiographic information on left intraventricular hemodynamics from the clinical modality of triplane color Doppler., Comment: original paper

Color Doppler by transthoracic echocardiography creates 2-D fan-shaped maps of blood velocities in the cardiac cavities. It is a one-component velocimetric technique since it only returns the velocity components parallel to the ultrasound beams. Intraventricular vector flow mapping (iVFM) is a method to recover the blood velocity vectors from the Doppler scalar fields in an echocardiographic three-chamber view. We improved our iVFM numerical scheme by imposing physical constraints. The iVFM consisted in minimizing regularized Doppler residuals subject to the condition that two fluid-dynamics constraints were satisfied, namely planar mass conservation, and free-slip boundary conditions. The optimization problem was solved by using the Lagrange multiplier method. A finite-difference discretization of the optimization problem, written in the polar coordinate system centered on the cardiac ultrasound probe, led to a sparse linear system. The single regularization parameter was determined automatically for non-supervision considerations. The physics-constrained method was validated using realistic intracardiac flow data from a patient-specific CFD model. The numerical evaluations showed that the iVFM-derived velocity vectors were in very good agreement with the CFD-based original velocities, with relative errors ranged between 0.3 and 12%. We calculated two macroscopic measures of flow in the cardiac region of interest, the mean vorticity and mean stream function, and observed an excellent concordance between physics-constrained iVFM and CFD. The capability of physics-constrained iVFM was finally tested with in vivo color Doppler data acquired in patients routinely examined in the echocardiographic laboratory. The vortex that forms during the rapid filling was deciphered. The physics-constrained iVFM algorithm is ready for pilot clinical studies.

This paper proposes a method to detect bank frauds using a mixed approach combining a stochastic intensity model with the probability of fraud observed on transactions. It is a dynamic unsupervised approach which is able to predict financial frauds. The fraud prediction probability on the financial transaction is derived as a function of the dynamic intensities. In this context, the Kalman filter method is proposed to estimate the dynamic intensities. The application of our methodology to financial datasets shows a better predictive power in higher imbalanced data compared to other intensity-based models., Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures

We present a novel approach to the problem of integrating homotopy Lie algebras by representing the Maurer-Cartan space functor with a universal cosimplicial object. This recovers Getzler's original functor but allows us to prove the existence of additional, previously unknown, structures and properties. Namely, we introduce a well-behaved left adjoint functor, we establish functoriality with respect to infinity-morphisms, and we construct a coherent hierarchy of higher Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff formulas. Thanks to these tools, we are able to establish the most important results of higher Lie theory. We use the recent developments of the operadic calculus, which leads us to explicit tree-wise formulas at all stage. We conclude by applying this theory to rational homotopy theory: the left adjoint functor is shown to provide us with homotopy Lie algebra models for topological spaces which faithfully capture their rational homotopy type., Comment: v1: 89 pages, comments are welcome

This paper addresses the problem of unsupervised approach of credit card fraud detection in unbalanced dataset using the ARIMA model. The ARIMA model is fitted on the regular spending behaviour of the customer and is used to detect fraud if some deviations or discrepancies appear. Our model is applied to credit card datasets and is compared to 4 anomaly detection approaches such as K-Means, Box-Plot, Local Outlier Factor and Isolation Forest. The results show that the ARIMA model presents a better detecting power than the benchmark models.

Over a field of characteristic zero, we show that two commutative differential graded (dg) algebras are quasi-isomorphic if and only if they are quasi-isomorphic as associative dg algebras. This answers a folklore problem in rational homotopy theory, showing that the rational homotopy type of a space is determined by its associative dg algebra of rational cochains. We also show a Koszul dual statement, under an additional completeness hypothesis: two homotopy complete dg Lie algebras whose universal enveloping algebras are quasi-isomorphic as associative dg algebras must themselves be quasi-isomorphic. This thesis is divided into two parts. The first one is composed of recollections on operad theory, model categories, simplicial homotopy theory, rational homotopy theory, Maurer-Cartan spaces, and deformation theory. The second part deals with the theory of convolution algebras and some of their applications, as explained below. Suppose we are given a type of algebras, a type of coalgebras, and a relationship between those types of algebraic structures (encoded by an operad, a cooperad, and a twisting morphism respectively). Then, it is possible to endow the space of linear maps from a coalgebra C and an algebra A with a natural structure of Lie algebra up to homotopy. We call the resulting homotopy Lie algebra the convolution algebra of A and C. We study the theory of convolution algebras and their compatibility with the tools of homotopical algebra: infinity morphisms and the homotopy transfer theorem. After doing that, we apply this theory to various domains, such as derived deformation theory and rational homotopy theory. In the first case, we use the tools we developed to construct an universal Lie algebra representing the space of Maurer-Cartan elements, a fundamental object of deformation theory. In the second case, we generalize a result of Berglund on rational models for mapping spaces between pointed topological spaces. In the last chapter of this thesis, we give a new approach to two important theorems in deformation theory: the Goldman-Millson theorem and the Dolgushev-Rogers theorem., Comment: 243 pages. Given a coalgebra C over a cooperad, and an algebra A over an operad, it is often possible to define a natural homotopy Lie algebra structure on hom(C,A), the space of linear maps between them, called the convolution algebra of C and A. In the present article, we use convolution algebras to define the deformation complex for infinity-morphisms of algebras over operads and coalgebras over cooperads. We also complete the study of the compatibility between convolution algebras and infinity-morphisms of algebras and coalgebras. We prove that the convolution algebra bifunctor can be extended to a bifunctor that accepts infinity-morphisms in both slots and which is well defined up to homotopy, and we generalize and take a new point of view on some other already known results. By a result of Vallette, we put a sensible model structure on the category of conilpotent Lie coalgebras. This gives us a powerful tool to study the subcategory of Lie algebras obtained by linear dualization, also known as the category of pronilpotent Lie algebras. This way, we recover weaker versions of the celebrated Goldman-Millson theorem and Dolgushev-Rogers theorem by purely homotopical methods. In previous works by the authors, a bifunctor was associated to any operadic twisting morphism, taking a coalgebra over a cooperad and an algebra over an operad, and giving back the space of (graded) linear maps between them endowed with a homotopy Lie algebra structure. We build on this result by using a more general notion of $\infty$-morphism between (co)algebras over a (co)operad associated to a twisting morphism, and show that this bifunctor can be extended to take such $\infty$-morphisms in either one of its two slots. We also provide a counterexample proving that it cannot be coherently extended to accept $\infty$-morphisms in both slots simultaneously. In order to solve two problems in deformation theory, we establish natural structures of homotopy Lie algebras and of homotopy associative algebras on tensor products of algebras of different types and on mapping spaces between coalgebras and algebras. When considering tensor products, such algebraic structures extend the Lie algebra or associative algebra structures that can be obtained by means of the Manin products of operads. These new homotopy algebra structures are proven by to compatible with the concepts of homotopy theory: $\infty$-morphisms and the Homotopy Transfer Theorem. We give a conceptual interpretation of their Maurer-Cartan elements. Blood viscosity decreases with shear stress, a property essential for an efficient perfusion of the vascular tree. Shear-thinning is intimately related to the dynamics and mutual interactions of red blood cells (RBCs), the major constituents of blood. Our work explores RBCs dynamics under physiologically relevant conditions of flow strength, outer fluid viscosity and volume fraction. Our results contradict the current paradigm stating that RBCs should align and elongate in the flow direction thanks to their membrane circulation around their center of mass, reducing flow-lines disturbances. On the contrary, we observe both experimentally and with simulations, rich morphological transitions that relate to global blood rheology. For increasing shear stresses, RBCs successively tumble, roll, deform into rolling stomatocytes and finally adopt highly deformed and polylobed shapes even for semi-dilute volume fractions analogous to microcirculatory values. Our study suggests that any pathological change in plasma composition, RBCs cytosol viscosity or membrane mechanical properties will impact the onset of shape transitions and should play a central role in pathological blood rheology and flow behavior.

Monte Carlo and Active Subspace Identification methods are combined with first- and second-order adjoint sensitivities to perform (forward) uncertainty quantification analysis of the thermo-acoustic stability of two annular combustor configurations. This method is applied to evaluate the risk factor, i.e., the probability for the system to be unstable. We propose a procedure - partly analytical and partly numerical - to find the frequency and the damping rate of the small-amplitude oscillations of a massless elastic capsule immersed in a two-dimensional viscous incompressible fluid. The unsteady Stokes equations for the stream function are decomposed onto normal modes for the angular and temporal variables, leading to a fourth-order linear ordinary differential equation in the radial variable. The forcing terms are dictated by the properties of the membrane, and result into jump conditions at the interface between the internal and external media. The equation can be solved numerically, and an excellent agreement is found with a fully-computational approach we developed in parallel. Comparisons are also shown with the results available in the scientific literature for drops, and a model based on the concept of embarked fluid is presented, which allows for a good representation of the results and a consistent interpretation of the underlying physics., Comment: in press on JFM
