Organizational structure information is deeply embedded in the different functional activities of accounting. This paper presents ORSO (ORganizational Structure Ontology), an ontology for describing organizational structures that can be reasoned with as part of accounting applications, developed following the principles and guidelines of design science research. ORSO allows the representation of key organizational constructs to meet internal and external accounting needs, including financial reporting requirements, analysis of an organization's governance structure, economic analysis of agent and group performance, the definition and monitoring of controls, and responding to political and social inquiries about agents and other needs. A prototype is presented that demonstrates three possible types of applications of ORSO systems: (1) analysis of organizational structures, (2) accounting analysis through the integrated use of Resource-Event-Agent (REA) transaction data and ORSO specifications, and (3) constraint definition and monitoring. PURPOSE: Despite digital transformation being a focus topic for incumbent companies, organizational structures are a significant barrier to their success. Referring to the positive correlation between ambidexterity and digital innovation, our research provides guidance on structural ambidexterity for incumbent companies. Previous research has barely differentiated between exploration and exploitation in digital transformation. In the present paper, we fill part of this research gap by focusing on structural ambidexterity in digital transformations and providing guidance on how incumbent companies can overcome organizational challenges. METHODOLOGY: Our research is based on an explorative research design with 33 semi-structured interviews that allow in-depth information. The interview partners were selected using purposive sampling and represented different industry and hierarchy levels. All of them have been in a position related to digital transformation in an incumbent company for the last two years. We ensure scholarly rigor using thematic analysis to analyze our data. FINDINGS: Our decision tree guides separation or integration based on the closeness of digital activities to the core business and the association of the activities to exploration or exploitation. Additionally, we recommend considering the digital maturity grade in the decision-making. Developing a cross-functional digital transformation strategy and pursuing a balanced portfolio fosters ambidexterity in digital transformation. Clear responsibilities, collaborative decision-making, candidate selection, and collaboration with IT are essential leadership activities. IMPLICATIONS for theory and practice: Our research expands the existing research on digital transformations of incumbent companies. We specifically contribute to the limited details on how to separate digital activities considering an exploration/exploitation perspective. Our study guides practitioners to address one of their major challenges in digital transformations with the help of our decision tree. In recent decades, higher education institutions (HEIs) have increasingly been exposed to a market logic that has led them to adopt structures and practices that are common in for-profit firms. In our study, we analyze how HEIs react to the increasing demands of digitalization and which factors explain the adoption of relevant structures. Based on 379 HEIs in Germany, our findings show that imprinting is of great importance for the implementation of a position for digitalization – that is, HEIs founded in a more recent phase of higher education in Germany are more likely to create a leadership position for digitalization. At the same time, we find that imprinting has no effect on the creation of more operational positions for digitalization but that the existence of a business department in HEIs has a positive effect. We discuss these findings in the context of higher education research and questions about factors influencing the adoption of practices and structures in HEIs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As public organizations increasingly adopt agile practices, understanding their opportunities, challenges, and transformative potentials is important. This article introduces the special issue on 'The Future of Agile in Public Service Organizations: Macro, Meso and Micro Perspectives' and explores the evolving landscape of agile in public service, drawing from diverse scholarly perspectives. To that end, we discuss various definitions of agile in the context of government and outline the potential benefits and drawbacks of the concept. We then delve into the macro-level characteristics and impacts of agile on institutions and society, its meso-level implications regarding organizational structures, processes, and outcomes, and micro-level determinants and effects on managers, employees, and teams. Referring to theoretical streams building the basis for agile on these different analytical levels, we build a conceptual framework of multi-level agile government. We introduce the six research studies and a book review included in this special issue and position them within this framework to highlight their contributions to understanding agile at each of the three levels. Responding to contemporary global challenges will require quality education, which presupposes changes in schools' organizational structures, new roles and mentalities for the players involved and a culture of learning at the different levels of organizations. In this regard, we strive to understand how changing certain organizational structures, more specifically the organization of teaching by educational teams operating as professional learning communities, can have an impact on individual, collective and organizational learning at schools. To this end, we have adopted a qualitative research paradigm, put into operation through a case study, based on a qualitative-quantitative approach. We combined a descriptive statistical approach consisting of two questionnaires, which have been decoded and interpreted both structurally and semantically, with a content analysis of interviews, focused discussion groups and field diary notes, to examine a number of unique contexts and the perspectives of individual players. We concluded that a change in organizational structures is an essential but insufficient condition. What is needed is a change in the players' beliefs and collaboration that provides deep learning. As such, a substantial change in education at the level of educational organization requires joint action at the levels of structure, middle leadership, beliefs and professional cultures. Purpose: This study examines the relationship between subsidiary autonomy and the MNE subsidiary initiative collaboration (i.e. entrepreneurial initiative resource support, the subsidiary seeks and receives from the MNE). It proposes some underlying mechanisms as external embeddedness, and MNE organizational structures to explain the relationship between subsidiary autonomy and the MNE subsidiary initiative collaboration. The study draws on paradox theory arguing how at both the subsidiary and the parent MNE levels certain paradoxes are handled. Design/methodology/approach: Survey data are collected in a time-lagged fashion from 429 foreign subsidiaries in New Zealand. Data are analyzed using structural equation modeling. Findings: Results show that the relationship between subsidiary autonomy and the receipt of MNE resource support for initiatives is positive, and this is more likely the case where the subsidiary is managed under simple structures (i.e. subsidiary reports to corporate headquarters, regional headquarters or mandated units) rather than complex structures (i.e. a matrix or a network). Furthermore, an increase in subsidiary autonomy positively influences MNE initiative resource-seeking, and this is more likely the case where the subsidiary is less embedded externally. Originality/value: The study is one of the first of studies that has applied paradox theory to MNE–subsidiary relationships regarding autonomy and MNE collaboration on initiatives. The study extends research on MNE–subsidiary collaboration on subsidiary initiatives as existing research is limited on this domain. The study contributes by showing how external embeddedness, and the complexity of organizational structures determine the relationship between subsidiary autonomy and MNE subsidiary initiative collaboration. In this study an attempt has been made to explore the revolutionary trends in India, exploring their ideological diversity, historical contexts, motivations, organizational structures, impact and influence, and forms of collective resistance. The study employs an analytical and exploratory approach, combining historical, and qualitative research methods. It aims to give readers a thorough comprehension of the ever-changing character of Indian revolutionary movements by drawing on a wide variety of primary and secondary sources, as well as archival records. This study aims to chart the ideological terrain, place contemporary events in their proper historical context, examine organizational structures, evaluate the influence and effect of revolutionary movements, and investigate different types of collective resistance. The methodology involves a systematic analysis of scholarly works, historical records, and firsthand accounts. The findings reveal the diverse range of ideological frameworks adopted by revolutionary movements in India, the socio-political conditions shaping their emergence, the motivations behind participation, the organizational strategies employed, the transformative impact on society, and the various forms of collective resistance utilized. This paper deeply analyses the latest strategies for enhancing the management system of higher education institutions. This study sets out the importance of the management system of higher education institutions (HEIs); (b) states the leading-edge strategies for modernizing the management system of HEIs; (c) calls attention to changing the mindset of the university pedagogical staff and leaders and using broader methods in reforming management system of HEIs; (d) suggests further approaches for superior academic outcomes. This study gathered data through field trip HEIs observations, interviewing HEIs rectors, lecturers, and university staff, and analyzing available data. The qualitative research findings reveal dissatisfaction with the present strategies and leading to poor academic achievements in the HEIs of Uzbekistan. Meanwhile, within the framework of the article, based on the methods of analysis and synthesis, generalization, and deduction, the main features and elements of the university management system, as well as current approaches to the management of a modern university, will be studied. Found data shows that improper infrastructure of government expenditure on education, low salary, and limited quota in pedagogical universities lead to a shortage of teachers and poor academic achievements.

Abstract Drawing upon research on the ways texts work as communication across different disciplines, this study investigated teacher and student feedback practices on three different patterns of writing: comparison-contrast essays, opinion essays, and cause-and-effect essays. The data were collected through three qualitative techniques: interviews, class observations, and an analysis of course documents and student-marked writing. The results showed that the participants did not always adhere to rhetorical features of different writing patterns when giving and responding to feedback. Rather, practices of feedback were majorly shaped by their beliefs about academic writing, assessment, and cognitive issues with rhetorical patterns. The results suggest a need for raising student and teacher awareness of the values of different patterns of writing for subject-domain studies; building a constructive alignment between writing course objectives, course assessment, and feedback practices; and involving students in the academic acculturation process.

The article examines the activity of the Bulgarian Youth Union "Father Paisiy" (BMSOP), its goals and ideology, as well as its role and place in the political life of Bulgaria in the 1940s, based on documents of the union from the period 1942-1943 - a relatively calm and successful period of development of BMSOP. The selected sources reveal the attitude of the organization to the personality and work of Tsar Boris III and to the Jewish question (and disavowal of Metropolitan Stefan of Sofia). They contain rich information about the BMSOP's idea of organizing and conducting national propaganda, as well as about the organization's actions in infiltrating the existing organizational structures in the country, its work in schools. The establishment of women's committees in the governance structure of sport organizations is directly connected to – and often justified as a remedy for – women's historical exclusion from sport. While women's committees can provide women an entryway into leadership positions, they can also restrict the influence of women's voices and concerns in decision-making processes. Despite the proliferation of women's committees, this tension remains largely unexplored. We therefore examine one of the first women's committees formed in sport, the IAAF Women's Committee, between 1990 and 2005, to shed light on the value and limitations of this type of organizational feature. Using archival materials, our analysis shows that this committee served as an avenue for women to contribute to decision-making, but one consistently beset by roadblocks. We examine how the Women's Committee, led by Ilse Bechthold, persistently and strategically navigated the IAAF's hierarchical structure and culture toward modest, incremental progress. Abstract Background A crucial component of value-based health care concerns the redesign of organizational structures. In theory, hospital structures should follow value creation: addressing medical conditions for specific groups of patients over full cycles of care. In practice, however, it remains unclear how hospitals can reorganize themselves into value-based structures. The purpose of this study is to explore the ways in which Dutch hospitals are currently implementing and pursuing value-based redesign. Methods This qualitative exploratory study used semi-structured interviews and a focus group for data collection. Transcripts were analyzed through deductive coding, for which we used Mintzberg’s theory on organizational structures, particularly his work on design parameters. Results In their efforts to create more value-based structures, Dutch hospitals often employ a variety of liaison devices, such as project teams and committees. By contrast, the actual formation of units around medical conditions is much rarer. Outcome data are widely used within planning and control systems, and some hospitals partake in external benchmarking. Not all hospitals use cost indicators for monitoring performance. Conclusions Value-based redesign is not necessarily a matter of radical changes or binary choices. Instead, as Dutch hospitals show, it can be an incremental process, with a variety of potential knobs to turn to various degrees. Health care executives, managers, and professionals thus have a wide range of options when they aim for more value-based structures. Our conceptualization of “value-based design parameters” can help guide the selection and implementation of strategies and mechanisms for further coordination around medical conditions over full cycles of care.

Case studies and surveys describing roles of liaison librarians and structure of liaison librarian programs have generally focused on libraries at large, research-oriented universities. This study was conducted to better understand the role of liaison librarians and the structure of liaison programs across more types of college and university libraries. Listings of liaison librarians on library websites at institutions with a wide range of enrollments were examined. Document analysis was used to observe how common it was for libraries to have such listings, how many liaison librarians were listed, what title was used for the position, what services were described, and if library employees not matched to university departments were also included in the list. Although there was substantial overlap in how institutions described their liaison librarian services, smaller and larger institutions had some noteworthy differences. Over 80 % of institutions with >5000 full-time equivalent (FTE) students had a liaison librarian listing on the library website, while less than half of smaller institutions had a listing. The largest institutions also tended to have more liaison librarians, frequently included subject specialization in liaison titles, and offered non-departmental services in their listings more often than smaller institutions. The purpose of the article is to study the theoretical aspects of the project approach in the formation of organizational structures of local government and to develop an alternative model of the organizational structure of local administration, which allows to solve new problems caused by the transition to project management. The authors analyzes the municipal formation to assess the readiness of organizational structures of local government for project management, and proposes a model of local administration focused on project management. The study revealed the main difficulties faced by local authorities when implementing project methods, and allowed to form the main directions for their solution.

Aims Effective organizations in the construction processes in the city limits need to use new and efficient models to solve discrete management problems. Using common modeling tools in cities and big cities, in addition to accurately determining the problem also identifies effective solutions. If these tools are used well then the understanding of real world problems will be facilitated. One of these tools is “game theory”. This research tries to analyze the organizational structures in the construction processes in Tehran with the help of game theory. Methodology This descriptive-analytical research was conducted in 1401. The data required for this research were collected by the “documentary-survey” method (interview and observation). The statistical population of this research includes managers and experts who were selected based on purposeful and theoretical sampling and their number is 20 people. Also using the content analysis method, the data of this research was analyzed. The graph model was also used as a suitable tool for modeling, analyzing complex issues and analyzing the state of the game among different stakeholders of organizations related to construction in the city. GMCR+ software was used for this modeling. Findings The results of this modeling show that among the 42 situations, there are 6 stable and 6 semistable situations. Conclusion Aggregate analyzes of organizations show that the desirability of organizational structures in the city of Tehran which has the potential to maximize the interests of actors, requires structural reforms and these reforms should focus on environmental protection and coordination power and be consistent with upstream documents and provide capacity building and active presence of actors. Due to the coronavirus epidemic (COVID-19) that threatens the health of all people, the way organizations do business all over the world and in our country has necessarily begun to change. In this period, processes such as preparing the road map on how to manage the employees, ensuring motivation and business continuity, and controlling the outputs are under the responsibility of the managers. In this context, this study includes findings on how managers' responsibilities have changed, how they continue their management and organizational practices, and how to differentiate management and organizations with changing working conditions in the process starting with the COVID-19 pandemic. The participants of the research are managers who work in different sectors in Turkey and have experienced remote working. Content analysis method was used in the study conducted with a qualitative research approach. As a result of the analysis of the data obtained from the semistructured interviews, "Acceleration of digitalization", "Change of operational costs and operations”, “Changing sociological and psychological factors” and “New normal in organizations” themes are emerged. Aims: To explore how healthcare personnel in home‐based care perceive interactions with family caregivers of people with dementia from minority ethnic backgrounds. Background: Research shows that the organization of home‐based care rarely allows opportunities to provide support to family caregivers in practice. However, how these organizational structures influence the way in which healthcare personnel perceive their interactions with family caregivers of people with dementia from minority ethnic backgrounds remains an unexplored area. Design: An explorative qualitative study inspired by a critical realist approach using Pierre Bourdieu's theoretical concepts of field, habitus and capital. Methods: Data were collected through individual semi‐structured interviews with six nurses and four auxiliary nurses employed in home‐based care in Norway. The data were analysed using a thematic analysis approach. The participants were recruited in September and October 2020. Findings: 'Family caregivers perceived as facilitators of or barriers to collaborative care' was identified as an overarching theme, supported by two main themes: 'Preconditions for successful collaboration' and 'Challenges for collaborative relationships'. The findings revealed that the participants mainly focused their attention on the dementia patients from minority ethnic backgrounds, while they felt that the family caregivers influenced the way in which they provided healthcare. Conclusions: The findings demonstrate that timesaving strategies have a major influence on healthcare personnel's perceptions of family caregivers from minority ethnic backgrounds. Attention towards the needs of the family caregivers was often replaced by evaluations of their usefulness in the provision of healthcare to the dementia patients. Impact: This study raises concerns about home‐based care as a rigid and inflexible system. It therefore provides opportunities to raise questions on status quo, stimulate debate and encourage fresh thinking with regards to the support and inclusion of family caregivers in the home‐based care system for people with dementia from minority ethnic backgrounds. En la universidad como institución, se han implementado modelos organizacionales tan diversos, como diversas y variadas han sido las universidades. Desde sus orígenes se requirió de una administración capaz de lograr el cumplimiento de su misión y sus objetivos, con particularidades propias del contexto universitario correspondiente y según los modelos documentados en la literatura. Es característico diferenciar los arreglos estructurales en los procesos académicos y administrativos. El artículo tiene como objetivo identificar las transformaciones de las estructuras organizativas en las universidades adscriptas al Ministerio de Educación Superior, las causas que lo motivaron y los impactos esperados. La investigación realizada es cualitativa, usa los métodos inductivos, histórico y de análisis, con datos recolectados de informes y experiencias estructuradas y predeterminadas, que contienen descripciones y observaciones. Se emplean técnicas de observación participativa, estudios de caso, registros de experiencias vitales, y la experticia y aportes de las autoras. Se concluye que las adecuaciones realizadas a los diseños organizacionales en las universidades, impactan favorablemente en el cumplimiento de sus estrategias y objetivos.

In order to develop such radical innovations, organizational separation of innovation efforts has been advocated by many as an effective strategy. We have conducted a longitudinal case study of a radical innovation project at a born-digital company. The company established a separate organization to develop radical innovation, but over time, the innovation drifted from radical to incremental. Even keeping the organization separate proved difficult. In explaining the events in the case study, we follow the argument that new theories of digital innovation can be developed with reference to the specific properties of digital artefacts. We outline how properties like editability and distributability may contribute to innovation drift, i.e., the proclivity of radical innovation ambitions to gradually drift towards more incremental realizations. Due to their nature, digital artefacts can diffuse through the organization and, thus, pose a challenge to the effectiveness of organizational separation as a strategy for innovation. With this work, we contribute to the literature on digital innovation by responding to calls for research on new theories of digital innovation and the demand for greater appreciation of digital materiality in organizing. We also challenge the prevailing view of digital innovations as radical and aim to open a debate on the possibility and considerations surrounding incremental digital innovations. The experience of leading multinational players in conducting corporate technological foresight shows that the key to its successful implementation is effective integration with the existing corporate strategic planning system.The issue of identifying the most important and necessary measures for integrating foresight into the corporate governance system of oil and gas companies has been considered in the article. The elements of the corporate management system with which it is necessary to build interrelation and description of options for strategies, have been presented, recommendations for conducting foresight for each of them have been given. It has been noted, that the use of foresight research has a significant impact on the effectiveness of individual projects and on the efficiency of companies' activity as a whole.The results obtained have showed that the effectiveness of the results of foresight directly depends on the company’s readiness to conduct it and the level of maturity of scientific and technical processes of innovative development of the company. The directions of the company’s management system, that have a particularly strong impact on the effectiveness of the results of foresight research have been highlighted, as well as methods for assessing the company’s readiness to conduct foresight have been proposed. An assessment of the options for applying foresight research depending on the company’s chosen model of innovative development and innovative development program has been given. It has been noted, that the greatest effect is achieved with a proactive management model that allows you to fully use the tools of foresight research, resulting forecasts. Using foresight for active and passive models doesn't give any advantages for the company, it leads to additional costs. The relationship between foresight and the most common organizational management structures, currently used in Russian oil and gas companies, has been shown.

Background. The need to ensure a high degree of product quality puts forward new requirements for models, methods and tools for managing production processes and the quality of products. This is especially true for the radio-electronic industry, where the effectiveness of technological innovations is dynamically confirmed during the serial production of products. Materials and methods. The intellectualization of radio electronics production is fully consistent with the concept of Industry 4.0 and the digitalization strategy. At the same time, quality assurance depends on the effective implementation of a quality management system at the enterprise, which requires top management not only to follow the requirements established in the GOST R ISO 9001-2015 standard, but also to take into account the internal specifics of the organization. A significant part of the features of the economic activity of an enterprise is determined by the type of its organizational structure. Results and conclusions. Therefore, the effectiveness of the implementation of technological innovations depends on the suitability of the applied quality management methods at enterprises of various organizational forms of management.
