Disordered molecular systems, such as amorphous catalysts, organic thin films, electrolyte solutions, and water, are at the cutting edge of computational exploration at present. Traditional simulations of such systems at length scales relevant to experiments in practice require a compromise between model accuracy and quality of sampling. To address this problem, we have developed an approach based on generative machine learning called the Morphological Autoregressive Protocol (MAP), which provides computational access to mesoscale disordered molecular configurations at linear cost at generation for materials in which structural correlations decay sufficiently rapidly. The algorithm is implemented using an augmented PixelCNN deep learning architecture that, as we previously demonstrated, produces excellent results in 2 dimensions (2D) for mono-elemental molecular systems. Here, we extend our implementation to multi-elemental 3D and demonstrate performance using water as our test system in two scenarios: (1) liquid water and (2) samples conditioned on the presence of pre-selected motifs. We trained the model on small-scale samples of liquid water produced using path-integral molecular dynamics simulations, including nuclear quantum effects under ambient conditions. MAP-generated water configurations are shown to accurately reproduce the properties of the training set and to produce stable trajectories when used as initial conditions in quantum dynamics simulations. We expect our approach to perform equally well on other disordered molecular systems in which structural correlations decay sufficiently fast while offering unique advantages in situations when the disorder is quenched rather than equilibrated. Herein, we perform a stability assessment of two conjugated polymers that are conventionally used as electron donor polymers in the active layer of organic photovoltaic (OPV). More specifically, the impact of thermal annealing, a post‐treatment commonly applied in the OPV community, is evaluated in terms of device performance and stability. The two polymers are PTB7‐Th and QX1, and they are respectively blended with a non‐fullerene electron acceptor, herein a derivative of N‐annulated perylene diimide, that is, tPDI2N‐EH. These blends are targeted for their relatively high power conversion efficiency in outdoor conditions, but also for their potential as efficient active layer in low‐intensity (indoor) conditions—while these blends have been reported, no study on the impact of thermal annealing on their stability has been performed yet. The performance stability of these devices, tracked via the open circuit voltage, the short‐circuit current, the fill factor, and the power conversion efficiency metrics, were evaluated each day for 2 weeks and correlated to an evaluation of the microstructure of the active layer, evaluated using atomic force microscopy and UV–visible absorbance spectroscopy. Finally, transistors were prepared using only the two electron donor polymers, PTB7‐Th and QX1, to assess if some correlations could be made between the behaviour of the OPV devices and that of the electronic charge mobilities. We have investigated the potential of three dielectric materials to meet the future demands of green dielectrics: Polycaprolactone (PCL) thermoplastic, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)‐carrageenan (CAR) crosslinked biopolymer, and boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) as a nano additive in PVA. Metal–insulator–metal (MIM) capacitors and organic thin film transistors (OTFT) were built with bilayer dielectric stacks of PVA‐CAR, PVA‐PCL, and PVA‐BNNT materials to examine their electrical properties. The PVA‐CAR layer uses a cyclic freeze thaw process to crosslink PVA and CAR for superior mechanical and electrical properties to either material alone. The PVA‐CAR MIM capacitors showed a dielectric constant of 23, which was found to be consistent with the extracted OTFT gate dielectric characteristics. Of the OTFT devices tested, PVA‐CAR OTFT showed highest device currents at low applied biases and produced an ON/OFF ratio of 104–105, both values were highest amongst the tested gate dielectrics. This material is therefore extremely promising for green electronics. The PVA‐PCL OTFT had very low leakage current and beneficial hydrophilic properties with comparable electrical properties to the commonly used organic material polytetrafluoroethylene. PVA‐BNNT MIM capacitors showed a low dielectric constant of 0.7, and the high resistivity makes this a promising material for shielding or substrates in high frequency applications. In this work, the development of a flexible Double‐Gate (DG) organic thin film transistor (DG‐OTFT), and its employment is reported for the realization of multimodal tactile sensors. Due to the self‐encapsulation of the stacked DG architecture, highly stable organic transistors are obtained that show almost negligible degradation after 6 months. Moreover, such configuration is also very useful for the development of sensing devices. In the case, one of the two gates is used to bias and set the working point of the devices, whereas the second one is connected to a polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF)‐capacitor, a pyro/piezoelectric material. It is demonstrated that the charge displacement induced by the PVDF capacitor due to an applied external pressure or due to a temperature variation led to a reproducible variation of the device's output current. Using this approach high‐performing multimodal tactile sensors are obtained with sensitivity to up to 241 nA N−1 and 442 nA °C−1 respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The oxidative cleavage of alkenes is a crucial step in synthesizing key organic molecules featuring carbonyl functional groups prevalent in natural products and pharmaceuticals. We introduce a photochemical method for heterogeneous C=C bond cleavage, employing photo‐catalytically generated [(bTAML)FeIV−O−FeIV(bTAML)]− species (where bTAML stands for biuret‐modified tetraamido macrocyclic ligand) in aqueous environments under gentle conditions. Leveraging the photosensitizing properties of Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs) and their advantageous morphological traits as films, we enhance the reaction by closely associating the substrate with the catalyst. This study marks the inaugural demonstration of Fe2IV‐μ‐oxo radical cation and FeIV=O species facilitating alkene cleavage in water against a backdrop of a hydrophobic COF. Through comprehensive mechanistic studies, including control experiments, we confirm that these two high‐valent iron oxo species collaborate to cleave alkenes, forming an intermediate epoxide. Our approach yields moderate to high success across various alkenes, displaying diverse functional groups (achieving up to 75 % yield) with notable efficiency and selectivity towards aldehyde/ketone products. Moreover, the heterogeneous COF film, immobilizing (Et4N)2[FeIII(Cl)bTAML], exhibits exceptional recyclability, enduring up to four cycles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Thermal transport properties for the isotropic and anisotropic characterization of nanolayers have been a significant gap in the research over the last decade. Multiple studies have been close to determining the thermal conductivity, diffusivity, and boundary resistance between the layers. The methods detailed in this work involve non-contact frequency domain pump-probe thermoreflectance (FDTR) and photothermal radiometry (PTR) methods for the ultraprecise determination of in-plane and cross-plane thermal transport properties. The motivation of one of the works is the advantage of the use of amplitude (TR signal) as one of the input parameters along with the phase for the determination of thermal parameters. In this article, we present a unique strategy for measuring the thermal transport parameters of thin films, including cross-plane thermal diffusivity, in-plane thermal conductivity, and thermal boundary resistance as a comprehensively reviewed article. The results obtained for organic and inorganic thin films are presented. Precise ranges for the thermal conductivity can be across confidence intervals for material measurements between 0.5 and 60 W/m-K for multiple nanolayers. The presented strategy is based on frequency-resolved methods, which, in contrast to time-resolved methods, make it possible to measure volumetric-specific heat. It is worth adding that the presented strategy allows for accurate (the signal in both methods depends on cross-plane thermal conductivity and thermal boundary resistance) and precise measurement. Spin-coated thin films of lactoperoxidase enzyme (LPO) were used on conjunction with the bio-composite (chitosan–gelatin), glutaraldehyde and cysteine as first-layers to characterize the interactions on the sensing characteristics. The prospect of tuning these three under-layers is to investigate the change of active vapor binding sites of LPO film after inter-layer interactions. Initially, spin-coated thin film properties of three under-layers and LPO are investigated by reporting deposited mass and layer thickness using the quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) frequency change. LPO spin-coated films with different under-layers are exposed to formic acid, acetic acid, chloroform, acetone and ethyl acetate vapors. The response characteristics of LPO films are investigated via QCM using time dependence frequency recording. LPO films are sensitive to those five vapors and the chemical and the physical properties of the analytes affect the sensitivity and the response rate. The results showed that the structural changes in the thin film affect the number of active binding sites of sensitive layer and thus the sensor response can be enhanced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Casimir forces arise if the spectrum of electromagnetic fluctuations are restricted by boundaries. There is great interest both in fundamental science and technical applications to better understand and technically control these forces. In this work, the influence of five different self‐assembled bio and organic monolayer thin films on the Casimir force between a plate and a sphere is experimentally investigated. It is found that the films, despite being a mere few nanometers thick, reduce the Casimir force by up to 14%. Spectroscopic data indicate a broad absorption band whose presence can be attributed to the mixing of electronic states of the underlying gold layer and those of the molecular film due to charge rearrangement. Using Lifshitz theory, it is calculated that the observed change in the Casimir force is consistent with the measured change in the effective dielectric properties. The nanometer‐sized molecules can penetrate small cavities, and cover any surface with high efficiency. This process seems compatible with current methods in the production of micro‐electromechanical systems (MEMS), which cannot be miniaturized beyond a certain size due to 'stiction' caused by the Casimir effect. Zinc (Zn) emerges as an ideal anode for aqueous‐based energy storage devices because of its safety, non‐toxicity, and cost‐effectiveness. However, the reversibility of zinc anodes is constrained by unchecked dendrite proliferation and parasitic side reactions. To minimize these adverse effects, a highly oriented, crystalline 2D porous fluorinated covalent organic framework (denoted as TpBD‐2F) thin film is in situ synthesized on the Zn anode as a protective layer. The zincophilic and hydrophobic TpBD‐2F provides numerous 1D fluorinated nanochannels, which facilitate the hopping/transfer of Zn2+ and repel H2O infiltration, thus regulating Zn2+ flux and inhibiting interfacial corrosion. The resulting TpBD‐2F protective film enabled stable plating/stripping in symmetric cells for over 1200 h at 2 mA cm−2. Furthermore, assembled full cells (Zn‐ion capacitors) deliver an ultra‐long cycling life of over 100 000 cycles at a current density of 5 A g−1, outperforming nearly all reported porous crystalline materials. Organic spintronics (OS), which focuses on utilizing the spin degree of freedom in organic materials, has been a fascinating topic because of its technological aspects and future applications. In-plane uniaxial magnetic anisotropy (UMA) is becoming increasingly important in the rapidly developing field of OS. In this study, Cobalt (Co) films were deposited with varying thicknesses on the Tris (8-hydroxyquinolinato) aluminium (Alq3) layer to investigate the evolution of magnetism and UMA. Magnetic measurements and simultaneous domain imaging have been done using the magneto-optic Kerr effect by varying the azimuthal angle between the easy axis of magnetization and the applied magnetic field. It was discovered that the bilayer exhibits a well-defined UMA in the film plane upon forming a continuous Co film with a thickness of around 10 nm. Structural and morphological properties of all the Co/Alq3 bilayers were studied using grazing-incidence small-angle X-ray scattering and wide-angle X-ray scattering measurements at synchrotron radiation source, P03 beamline PETRA-III, Germany. The combined analysis revealed that in contrast to the inorganic magnetic polycrystalline thin films, where the UMA originates mainly due to the stress, the origin of UMA in Co/Alq3 is attributed to the magnetocrystalline anisotropy caused by c-axis (Co (002)) preferential orientation. The surface free energy of Alq3 is less than that of Co; therefore, the growth of Co starts with island formation, which coalescences with increasing thickness. The observed structure orientation may be attributed to minimizing the magnetoelastic energies due to coalescence known as the zipping effect. The absence of UMA in films with lower thickness film (~5 nm) is understood in terms of random short-range stress caused by isotropic pinning due to the diffused interface. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Historically, knowledge of the molecular packing within the crystal structures of organic semiconductors has been instrumental in understanding their solid‐state electronic properties. Chemical doping is a powerful way to enhance the electrical performance of organic electronics. To avoid perturbing the ordered molecular packing of organic semiconducting hosts, molecular dopants are deposited on the surface of highly crystalline organic semiconductor thin films. However, such surface doping protocols not only limit charge‐transfer efficiency but also cause dopant diffusion problems, which significantly reduce charge carrier mobility and device stability. Here, an innovative anion bulk doping strategy is reported that allows effective doping of organic single‐crystalline films (OSCFs) without disrupting molecular ordering to improve the performance of organic field‐effect transistors (OFETs). This method is mediated by anion dopants and can be pictured as an effective charge transfer of dopants with organic semiconductors in liquid phase. The direct introduction of dopant anions overcomes limitations of partial charge transfer while avoiding interference from dopant aggregation with crystallization. Using this method, the average carrier mobility of the OSCFs is boosted by ≈2.5 times. Significantly, low‐voltage OFETs developed from anion‐doped OSCFs exhibit a near‐ideal subthreshold swing of 59.2 mV dec−1 and unparalleled mobility as high as 19.8 cm2 V−1 s−1 together with excellent stability. Organic semiconductors still lag behind their inorganic counterparts in terms of mobility due to their lower structural order, in particular in thin films. Here, the highly ordered phase of triclinic rubrene – characterized by high vertical hole mobility – grown from a vacuum‐deposited thin film is used by post‐annealing and implemented into organic photodetectors. Since the triclinic rubrene exhibits a high roughness with a peak‐to‐valley value of 250 nm, which is detrimental to the dark current, strategies to control the crystal growth are developed. These investigations show that a suppression layer of 20 nm C60 is the most promising approach to successfully reduce the surface roughness while maintaining the triclinic phase, proven by grazing‐incidence wide‐angle X‐ray scattering (GIWAXS). With the smoothened active layer, the dark current density is reduced by three orders of magnitude compared to the neat rubrene layer. It is as low as 2.5 × 10−10 A cm−2 at −0.1 V bias, reflected in an overall specific detectivity of 6 × 1011 Jones at zero bias (based on noise measurements) and a high linear dynamic range of 170 dB. The morphological analysis of bulk heterojunction (BHJ) active layer stands as a critical imperative for advancing the performance of future organic solar cells. Conventional characterization tools employed for morphological investigation often require substantial resources, both in cost and physical space, thereby imposing restraints on research endeavors in this domain. Here, we extend the application of charge carrier transport characterization beyond conventional mobility assessments, utilizing it as a table-top method for preliminary morphological screening in organic thin films. The investigation focuses on several high-performance BHJ systems that utilize typical "Y" non-fullerene acceptors. It involves in-depth transport studies, including temperature- and field-dependent transport characterizations. The resulting transport data are analyzed in detail using the Gaussian disorder model to extract key transport parameters, specifically the high-temperature limited mobility (μ∞) and positional disorder (∑). Integrating these transport parameters with morphological insights obtained through various characterization tools—including x-ray scattering, sensitive spectroscopy, and quantum chemistry simulation—provides a deep understanding of the intricate interplay between charge transport properties and morphological characteristics. The results reveal explicit relationships, associating μ∞ with the degree of molecular stacking in BHJs and ∑ with the structural disorder in molecule skeleton. Our findings point to the promising potential of utilizing a simple transport characterization technique for the early stage evaluation of thin film packing and geometric properties of organic materials. While organic semiconductors hold significant promise for the development of flexible, lightweight electronic devices such as organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs), photodetectors, and gas sensors, their widespread application is often limited by intrinsic challenges. In this article, we first review these challenges in organic electronics, including low charge carrier mobility, susceptibility to environmental degradation, difficulties in achieving uniform film morphology and crystallinity, as well as issues related to poor interface quality, scalability, and reproducibility that further hinder their commercial viability. Next, we focus on reviewing the hybrid system comprising an organic semiconductor and polystyrene (PS) to address these challenges. By examining the interactions of PS as a polymer additive with several benchmark semiconductors such as pentacene, rubrene, 6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl) pentacene (TIPS pentacene), 2,8-difluoro-5,11-bis(triethylsilylethynyl) anthradithiophene (diF-TES-ADT), and 2,7-dioctyl[1]benzothieno[3,2-b][1]benzothiophene (C8-BTBT), we showcase the versatility of PS in enhancing the crystallization, thin film morphology, phase segregation, and electrical performance of organic semiconductor devices. This review aims to highlight the potential of an organic semiconductor/PS hybrid system to overcome key challenges in organic electronics, thereby paving the way for the broader adoption of organic semiconductors in next-generation electronic devices. The field of gas sensors has been developing for the last year due to the necessity of characterizing compounds and, in particular, volatile organic compounds whose detection can be of special interest in a vast range of applications that extend from clinical evaluation to environmental monitoring. Among all the potential techniques to develop sensors, magnetron sputtering has emerged as one of the most suitable methodologies for the production of large-scale uniform coatings, with high packing density and strong adhesion to the substrate at relatively low substrate temperatures. Furthermore, it presents elevated deposition rates, allows the growth of thin films with high purity, permits a precise control of film thickness, enables the simple manufacturing of sensors with low power consumption and, consequently, low costs involved in the production. This work reviewed all the current applications of gas sensors developed through magnetron sputtering in the field of VOCs assessment by gathering the most relevant scientific works published. A total of 10 compounds were considered for this work. Additionally, 13 other compounds were identified as promising targets and classified as future trends in this field. Overall, this work summarizes the state-of-the-art in the field of gas sensors developed by magnetron sputtering technology, allowing the scientific community to take a step forward in this field and explore new research areas. Electron beam lithography (EBL) involves the transfer of a pattern onto the surface of a substrate by first scanning a thin layer of organic film (called resist) on the surface by a tightly focused and precisely controlled electron beam (exposure) and then selectively removing the exposed or nonexposed regions of the resist in a solvent (developing). It is widely used for fabrication of integrated circuits, mask manufacturing, photoelectric device processing, and other fields. The key to drawing circular patterns by EBL is the graphics production and control. In an EBL system, an embedded processor calculates and generates the trajectory coordinates for movement of the electron beam, and outputs the corresponding voltage signal through a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) to control a deflector that changes the position of the electron beam. Through this procedure, it is possible to guarantee the accuracy and real-time control of electron beam scanning deflection. Existing EBL systems mostly use the method of polygonal approximation to expose circles. A circle is divided into several polygons, and the smaller the segmentation, the higher is the precision of the splicing circle. However, owing to the need to generate and scan each polygon separately, an increase in the number of segments will lead to a decrease in the overall lithography speed. In this paper, based on Bresenham's circle algorithm and exploiting the capabilities of a field-programmable gate array and DAC, an improved real-time circle-producing algorithm is designed for EBL. The algorithm can directly generate circular graphics coordinates such as those for a single circle, solid circle, solid ring, or concentric ring, and is able to effectively realizes deflection and scanning of the electron beam for circular graphics lithography. Compared with the polygonal approximation method, the improved algorithm exhibits improved precision and speed. At the same time, the point generation strategy is optimized to solve the blank pixel and pseudo-pixel problems that arise with Bresenham's circle algorithm. A complete electron beam deflection system is established to carry out lithography experiments, the results of which show that the error between the exposure results and the preset patterns is at the nanometer level, indicating that the improved algorithm meets the requirements for real-time control and high precision of EBL. HIGHLIGHTS: • To improve the accuracy and speed of production of circular patterns in electron beam lithography, a method of directly exposing circular patterns by controlling the electron beam is proposed, in which the trajectory coordinates of the beam are generated in real time without image stitching. • Bresenham's circle algorithm encounters two problems in circle production: blank pixels will appear when solid circles are generated, and pseudo-pixels occur when a circle of a specific radius is generated. In this paper, Bresenham's algorithm is optimized and improved to solve these two problems, and the effectiveness of the improved algorithm is demonstrated by simulation and experiment. • Experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively control electron beam photolithography of single-line-wide circles, solid circles, solid rings, concentric circles, etc. The error between the lithography results and the preset parameters is at the nanometer level. Coherent Raman Scattering Imaging offers quick and surface‐sensitive large‐area scans of specimens including fingerprinting of the substances, combined with low detection limits. By using a multi‐photon process, it offers orders of magnitude stronger surface signal in comparison to spontaneous Raman (SR) and fluorescence signals of the substrate are avoided by the detection principle and the near‐infrared laser wavelength. By exciting at a specific wavelength instead of measuring whole spectra the measurement time is remarkably reduced. Here, detecting organic thin films on glass surfaces is investigated. The detection of those thin films is relevant for production processes where the interfacial layer is influenced by the low surface energy of contaminants, especially polysiloxanes. The samples are manufactured by pipetting diluted polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) in heptane in various concentrations (1%, 0.1%, 0.01%, and 0.001%) on glass substrates. After evaporation of the solvent, thin films of the silicone remain. The resulting average coverage of the thin films equals 100–0.1 μg cm−2. Measurements determine the detectability threshold with SR to 10 μg cm−2, while the acquired spectrum is used to determine characteristic peaks for the pump laser. Afterwards the samples are imaged at those wavenumbers with Coherent Raman Scattering (CRS) Imaging techniques providing a chemically‐specific contrast. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Low‐cost and high‐performance electronics based on synthetically simple materials are required to fuel the deployment of smart packaging and wearable electronics. Metal phthalocyanines (MPcs) are promising semiconductors for use in n‐type organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) but often require high operating voltages. The first silicon phthalocyanine‐based OTFT with a polymer dielectric is reported as an alternative to traditional metal oxide dielectrics. Incorporating poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) as the dielectric successfully reduces the threshold voltage (VT) of bispentafluorophenoxy SiPc (F10‐SiPc) from 14.9V to 7.3V while retaining high mobility. Further reduction in VT is obtained by using copolymers and blends of PMMA and dimethylamino ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA)‐containing polymers, where a higher molar fraction of DMAEMA leads to a consistent drop in VT to ‐0.7 V. The electron‐donating groups of the tertiary amines in the DMAEMA show clear interfacial doping of the semiconductor, reducing the voltage required to populate the dielectric/semiconductor interface with charge carriers and turn on the device. Blending trace amounts of DMAEMA‐containing copolymers with PMMA proves to be an effective strategy for reducing the VT while keeping the charge mobility high, unlike when using pure copolymers with elevated DMAEMA content. Time of flight secondary ion mass spectroscopy (ToF‐SIMS) and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) demonstrate that the DMAEMA‐containing copolymer is floating to the surface of the PMMA blend at the dielectric–semiconductor interface, which explains the reduced VT. Synchrotron scanning transmission X‐ray microscopy (STXM) demonstrates that PMMA promotes a more edge‐on orientation of F10‐SiPc films, compared to the more face‐on orientation when deposited on the DMAEMA containing copolymer. Thin films of organic mixed ionic electronic conductors (OMIECs) constitute the functional layer in organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs), organic bioelectronic transducers and other ionic‐electronic devices. The thin‐film configuration constrains devices to be fabricated on impermeable substrates in the form of 2D microstructures with lateral electrodes to drive an electronic current through the thin film. In order to alleviate such constraints, novel OMIEC deposition methods are needed that produce alternatives to thin‐film devices and that are compatible with permeable substrates and electronic transport in the vertical direction. Here OMIECs filled nanoporous membranes are introduced as functional layer in devices with mixed ionic electronic transport. Electropolymerization of ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) monomers is used to fabricate OMIEC filled nanochannels. Electronic and ionic transport through such nanochannels are investigated and modulation of electronic as well as ionic carrier density by action of a third gate electrode is demonstrated. Theoretical studies have unequivocally determined the exceptional electron transport properties of the fluorinated tetracyanoquinodimethane (Fx‐TCNQ) family, presenting a promising avenue for the realization of high‐performance n‐channel organic thin‐film transistors (OTFTs). However, owing to the intrinsic low crystallinity of this class of materials, Fx‐TCNQ‐based n‐channel OTFTs have not been experimentally achieved so far. Herein, a molecular step template (MST)‐assisted method that dramatically improves the crystallinity of F4‐TCNQ thin films is reported. The MST not only lowers the nucleation barrier of F4‐TCNQ molecules along the in‐plane direction but also reduces the nucleation density. This approach facilitates the realization of compact, oriented, and highly crystalline F4‐TCNQ thin films, resulting in impressive electron mobility of up to 2.58 cm2 V−1 s−1. Notably, this achievement surpasses the electron mobility of F4‐TCNQ thin films fabricated without the MST by a factor of 107. Furthermore, the incorporation of the p‐type MST provides a novel pathway for constructing complementary inverters, showcasing a high voltage gain of 112.6 V V−1 and a substantial noise margin of 89.3% with exceptional uniformity. The existence of amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) is a fundamental principle of laser dyes. ASE indicates the spectral variation of the optical gain of a laser dye. Analyzing the spectral distribution of ASE is important for designing lasers. We demonstrate ASE investigations on planar waveguides made of a (co-)polymer. Similar to organic DFB (distributed feedback) lasers, a line grating allows a partial decoupling of the guided radiation. This decoupled radiation is detected as an indicator of the guided radiation. The diffraction of the radiation is utilized to perform a spectrally selective investigation of the ASE by spatially splitting it. This analysis method reduces the influence of isotropic photoluminescence and allows ASE to be analyzed across its entire spectrum. We were able to observe ASE in F8BT over a range from λ A S E , m i n = 530 nm to λ A S E , m a x = 570 nm and determine ASE threshold power densities lower than E A S E < 2.57 μJ/cm2. Atmospheric pressure plasma deposition (APPD) of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)‐like antifouling coatings provides an attractive way to reduce biofouling for reliable biosensor operation. Cold atmospheric pressure plasma jets are designed to operate in open air. This paper demonstrates the impact of open‐air processing on the composition and properties of PEO‐like coatings by APPD with vinyl ether precursors. The open‐air environment inhibits polymerization as indicated by low deposition rates, oxygen incorporation in the coatings, and instability of the coatings in water. The composition and stability of the coatings improve by appropriate nozzle design and by deposition in an environment with lower air content. The resulting PEO‐like coatings are stable and antifouling for an antibody solution and inhibit adhesion of human fibroblast cells. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Transfer integral is a crucial parameter that determines the charge mobility of organic semiconductors, and it is very sensitive to molecular packing motifs. The quantum chemical calculation of transfer integrals for all the molecular pairs in organic materials is usually an unaffordable task; fortunately, it can be accelerated by the data-driven machine learning method now. In this work, we develop machine learning models based on artificial neutral networks to predict transfer integrals accurately and efficiently for four typical organic semiconductor molecules: quadruple thiophene (QT), pentacene, rubrene, and dinaphtho[2,3-b:2′,3′-f]thieno[3,2-b]thiophene (DNTT). We test various forms of features and labels and evaluate the accuracy of different models. With the implementation of a data augmentation scheme, we have achieved a very high accuracy with the determination coefficient of 0.97 and mean absolute error of 4.5 meV for QT, and similar accuracy for the other three molecules. We apply these models to studying charge transport in organic crystals with dynamic disorders at 300 K and obtain the charge mobility and anisotropy in perfect agreement with the brutal force quantum chemical calculation. If more molecular packings representing the amorphous phase of organic solids are supplemented to the dataset, the current models can be refined to study charge transport in organic thin films with polymorphs and static disorders. A thin film of 7-oxo-thiazolopyrimidine-3,8-dicarbonitrile derivative [7-ThPyDi]TF was prepared using a spin coating technique. The surface morphology and molecular structure are studied using various techniques such as XRD, FTIR, and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Moreover, the quantum chemical calculations were carried out through time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) to investigate some reactivity descriptors such as softness and electronegativity. Also, Au/[7-ThPyDi]TF/p-Si/Al heterojunction diodes were fabricated. It was revealed that the energy bandgap value of [7-ThPyDi] as an organic thin film is 3.58 eV for direct transitions and 3.94 eV for indirect transitions, respectively, and this value falls within the semiconductor material range. The atomic force microscope demonstrated that the surface roughness of the thin film is approximately 32.2 nm. Because of its high refractive index, this material has the potential application as an antireflection coating for solar cells and as lenses with a wide focal range. We investigated a blue luminescent thiazolopyrimidine compound; the maximum emission in the more aggregated state (higher solution concentration) exhibits a notable blue shift compared to the more diluted solution. This uncommon phenomenon has been understood by structural analyses using density functional theory. The chemical structure of the molecule [planar conjugated cores and strong polar groups (–CO and –CN)] enables it to interact with both itself and the polar solvent. The intermolecular interactions result in the bending of the conjugated plane. As a result, the blue shift happens upon aggregation when the conjugated effect becomes weaker. According to the theoretical model based on the Mueller matrix approach, the experimental electronic circular dichroism (ECD) for thin films of chiral organic dyes can be expressed as the sum of several contributions, two of which are the most significant: 1) an intrinsic component (CDiso) invariant upon sample orientation, reflecting the molecular and/or supramolecular chirality, due to 3D‐chiral nanoscopic structures; 2) a non‐reciprocal component (LDLB) which inverts its sign upon sample flipping, which arises from the interaction of linear dichroism and linear birefringence in locally anisotropic domains, expression of 2D‐chiral micro/mesoscopic structures. In this work, we followed in parallel through ECD and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) the temperature evolution of the supramolecular arrangements of thin films of five structurally related chiral thiophene‐based oligomers with different LDLB/CDiso ratio. By increasing the temperature, regardless of phase transitions observed by DSC analysis, systems with strong CDiso revealed no changes in the ECD spectrum, while compounds with dominant LDLB contribution underwent a gradual (and reversible) reduction of (apparent) ECD signals. These findings demonstrated that the concomitant occurrence of intrinsic and non‐reciprocal components in the ECD spectrum of thin films of chiral organic dyes is strictly correlated with solid‐state organizations of different stability. Understanding the relationship between morphology and charge transport capability in organic thin films is vital for advancements in organic electronics. However, accurately predicting charge mobility in these films is challenging due to the extensive evaluations of transfer integral required. To address this challenge, transfer learning techniques are employed to develop machine learning models capable of efficiently and accurately calculating transfer integrals in organic thin films with grain boundaries and polymorphs. Through machine learning‐assisted multiscale simulations of charge transport, the impact of solution shearing conditions is investigated on the morphology and mobility of organic thin films. The findings reveal that shearing‐induced molecular orientation and pre‐aggregation have a significant influence on film morphology, and a moderate shearing speed combined with a suitable solvent promotes the formation of extended transport networks, leading to higher mobility. The utilization of transfer learning‐accelerated simulation techniques opens up new possibilities for exploring the relationship between solution‐processing conditions, morphology, and charge transport properties of organic thin films. Organic photovoltaic cells are a promising technology for generating renewable energy from sunlight. These cells are made from organic materials, such as polymers or small molecules, and can be lightweight, flexible, and low-cost. Here, we have created a novel mixture of magnesium phthalocyanine (MgPc) and chlorophenyl ethyl diisoquinoline (Ch-diisoQ). A coating unit has been utilized in preparing MgPc, Ch-diisoQ, and MgPc-Ch-diisoQ films onto to FTO substrate. The MgPc-Ch-diisoQ film has a spherical and homogeneous surface morphology with a grain size of 15.9 nm. The optical absorption of the MgPc-Ch-diisoQ film was measured, and three distinct bands were observed at 800–600 nm, 600–400 nm, and 400–250 nm, with a band gap energy of 1.58 eV. The current density-voltage and capacitance-voltage measurements were performed to analyze the photoelectric properties of the three tested cells. The forward current density obtained from our investigated blend cell is more significant than that for each material by about 22%. The photovoltaic parameters (Voc, Isc, and FF) of the MgPc-Ch-diisoQ cell were found to be 0.45 V, 2.12 μA, and 0.4, respectively. Ion concentrations in the human body are closely tied to crucial biological functions and thus serve as important diagnostic health markers. Biological samples are chemically complex, containing a wide range of ions and molecules, necessitating the use of sensors that are highly selective to the target analyte. In this work, a multi‐ion sensing chip, capable of selectively detecting potassium (K+), sodium (Na+), and calcium (Ca2+) ions at physiologically relevant concentrations, is demonstrated. Each sensor consists of a simple, solution‐processed, all solid‐state, and low‐voltage organic thin film transistor, functionalized with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) ion selective membranes sandwiched between the insulator and gate electrode. The sensors are responsive to 4–5 decades of each primary ion. When a response from interfering ions is seen at higher concentrations, the sensors can uniquely discriminate between primary and interfering ions by a difference in the polarity of the current modulation. The sensors function well in mixed‐ion solutions, and can detect K+, Na+, and Ca2+ in simulated human blood serum, demonstrating the feasibility of using these devices for the analysis of complex analytes. While electrical poling of organic ferroelectrics has been shown to improve device properties, there are challenges in visualizing accompanying structural changes. We observe poling induced changes in ferroelectric domains by applying differential phase contrast (DPC) imaging in the scanning transmission electron microscope, a method that has been used to observe spatial distributions of electromagnetic fields at the atomic scale. In this work, we obtain DPC images from unpoled and electrically poled polyvinylidene fluoride trifluorethylene films and compare their performance in polymer thin film transistors. The vertically poled films show uniform domains throughout the bulk compared to the unpoled film with a significantly higher magnitude of the overall polarization. Thin film transistors comprising a donor–acceptor copolymer as the active semiconductor layer show improved performance with the vertically poled ferroelectric dielectric film compared with the unpoled ferroelectric dielectric film. A poling field of 80–100 MV/m for the dielectric layer yields the best performing transistors; higher than 100 MV/m is seen to degrade the transistor performance. The results are consistent with a reduction in deleterious charge carrier scattering from ferroelectric domain boundaries or interfacial dipoles arising from electrical poling. This paper presents numerical simulation and compact modeling of 2,7-Dioctyl {1} benzothieno {3,2-b}{1} benzothiophene (C8-BTBTC8) organic semiconductor-based TFT. It shows the entire modeling process flow of this organic semiconductor (OSC) and tests the device realization using a ring oscillator. The paper comprises OSC characterisation, band-gap modeling, electrostatic modeling, and capacitance modeling. The TCAD model consists of the Hopping and Pool Frenkel premise and characterizes the Density of State (DOS) for traps in deep and tail states. The findings from this research provide valuable information for improving OTFT models, enhancing their predictive accuracy, and advancing the understanding of organic semiconductor device behavior. It remains full of challenge for extending short-wave infrared (SWIR) spectral response and weak-light detection in the context of broad spectral responses for phototransistor. In this work, a novel poly(2,5-bis(4-hexyldodecyl)-2,5-dihydro-3,6-di-2-thienylpyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole-1,4-dione-alt-thiophene) (PDPPT3-HDO):COTIC-4F organic bulk-heterojunction is prepared as active layer for bulk heterojunction phototransistors. PDPPT3-HDO serves as a hole transport material, while COTIC-4F enhances the absorption of SWIR light to 1020 nm. As a result, smooth and connected PDPPT3-HDO film is fabricated by blade coating method and exhibits high hole mobility up to 2.34 cm2·V−1·s−1 with a current on/off ratio of 4.72 × 105 in organic thin film transistors. PDPPT3-HDO:COTIC-4F heterojunction phototransistors exhibit high responsivity of 2680 A·W−1 to 900 nm and 815 A·W−1 to 1020 nm, with fast response time (rise time ~ 20 ms and fall time ~ 100 ms). The photosensitivity of the heterojunction phototransistor improves as the mass ratio of non-fullerene acceptors increases, resulting in an approximately two orders of magnitude enhancement compared to the bare polymer phototransistor. Importantly, the phototransistor exhibits decent responsivity even under ultra-weak light power of 43 μ·cm−2 to 1020 nm. The bulk-heterojunction (BHJ) system that uses a π -conjugated polymer as an electron donor, and a fullerene derivative as an electron acceptor, is widely used in organic solar cells (OSCs) to facilitate efficient charge separation and extraction. However, the conventional BHJ system still suffers from unwanted phase segregation caused by the existence of significant differences in surface energy between the two BHJ components and the charge extraction layer during film formation. In the present work, we demonstrate a sophisticated control of fast film-growth kinetics that can be used to achieve a uniform distribution of donor and acceptor materials in the BHJ layer of OSCs without undesirable phase separation. Our approach involves depositing the BHJ solution onto a spinning substrate, thus inducing rapid evaporation of the solvent during BHJ film formation. The fast-growth process prevents the fullerene derivative from migrating toward the charge extraction layer, thereby enabling a homogeneous distribution of the fullerene derivative within the BHJ film. The OSCs based on the fast-growth BHJ thin film are found to exhibit substantial increases in JSC, fill factor, and a PCE up to 11.27 mA/cm2, 66%, and 4.68%, respectively; this last value represents a remarkable 17% increase in PCE compared to that of conventional OSCs. In the present paper, a biosensor is proposed with a split gate dielectric modulated bottom gate top contact organic thin‐film transistor. A cavity is marked below gate metal for enhancing sensitivity in biomedical applications. The organic thin‐film transistors‐based biosensors have shown applications over advanced biosensing platforms due to their intrinsic ability to transfer and amplify received biological signals into respective electrical signals. Immobilizing the biomolecules inside the cavity generates changes in surface potential. The analysis is carried out via different performance metrics that directly affect device electrical characteristics such as a change in spacer length applied voltages (Vgs and Vds) as well as channel material. After modeling, the device output characteristics are compared corresponding to simulated outcomes that validated our results. The proposed model structure is categorized by dividing it into different sections. Each categorized section's surface potential is further evaluated via 1‐ and 2‐dimensional Poisson's equation. The simulations to recreate biomolecules in terms of dielectric constant and charge density are done in the Silvaco ATLAS tool. Organic thin films are of great interest due to their intriguing interfacial and functional properties, especially for device applications such as thin-film transistors and sensors. As their thickness approaches single nanometer thickness, characterization and interpretation of the extracted data become increasingly complex. In this study, plasma polymerization is used to construct ultrathin films that range in thickness from 1 to 20 nm, and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry coupled with principal component analysis is used to investigate the effects of film thickness on the resulting spectra. We demonstrate that for these cross-linked plasma polymers, at these thicknesses, the observed trends are different from those obtained from thicker films with lower degrees of cross-linking: contributions from ambient carbon contamination start to dominate the mass spectrum; cluster-induced nonlinear enhancement in secondary ion yield is no longer observed; extent of fragmentation is higher due to confinement of the primary ion energy; and the size of the primary ion source also affects fragmentation (e.g., Bi1 versus Bi5). Energy dissipation and the transfer rate of adsorbed molecules do not only determine the rates of chemical reactions but are also a key factor that often dictates the growth of organic thin films. Here, we present a study of the surface dynamical motion of cobalt phthalocyanine (CoPc) on Ag(100) in reciprocal space based on the helium spin-echo technique in comparison with previous scanning tunnelling microscopy studies. It is found that the activation energy for lateral diffusion changes from 150 meV at 45-50 K to ≈100 meV at 250-350 K, and that the process goes from exclusively single jumps at low temperatures to predominantly long jumps at high temperatures. We thus illustrate that while the general diffusion mechanism remains similar, upon comparing the diffusion process over widely divergent time scales, indeed different jump distributions and a decrease of the effective diffusion barrier are found. Hence a precise molecular-level understanding of dynamical processes and thin film formation requires following the dynamics over the entire temperature scale relevant to the process. Furthermore, we determine the diffusion coefficient and the atomicscale friction of CoPc and establish that the molecular motion on Ag(100) corresponds to a low friction scenario as a consequence of the additional molecular degrees of freedom. In this communication, we report a typical structural, optical and electrical analysis of thin films of hole transport material (HTM) based on aromatic phenyl benzidine derivative (N,N ′ -Di-1-naphthyl-N,N ′ -diphenylbenzidine) deposited by thermal evaporation technique onto the glass substrate. The effect of substrate temperature on the physical and electronic properties of these organic thin films for perovskite solar cells (PSCs) applications has been investigated. The films have been characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM, UV–Vis spectroscopy and photoluminescence spectroscopy. Electrical conductivity and activation energies of films have also been calculated. From FTIR data of fabricated films and powder, it was found that the compound does not decompose during the thermal evaporation process as observed vibrational frequencies of films and the powder are the same. From the results, it has been determined that the substrate temperature has a huge impact on the physical structure and has also influenced the optical, electrical properties of the films. As observed from the studies it appears that these amorphous films with bandgap near to 3 eV and suitable conductivity have potential for photovoltaics layer devices. From this study, it can be concluded that N,N ′ -Di-1-naphthyl-N,N ′ -diphenylbenzidine can be used as an active hole transport layer in PSCs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to establish a correlation between the fragmentation process and the growth mechanisms of a coating deposited on a fluoropolymer. Deposition was carried out using dielectric barrier discharge at atmospheric pressure, employing an oxygen-containing organic precursor in a nitrogen environment. The findings reveal that the impact of precursor concentration on the formation of specific functionalities is more significant than the influence of treatment time. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results obtained indicate a reduction in the N/O ratio on the coating's surface as the precursor concentration in the discharge increases. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis, conducted in the spectral range of 1500 cm−1 to 1800 cm−1, confirmed the connection between the chemical properties of plasma-deposited thin films and the concentration of organic precursors in the discharge. Furthermore, the emergence of nitrile moieties (C≡N) in the FTIR spectrum at 2160 cm−1 was noted under specific experimental conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

N‐type organic semiconductors are particularly susceptible to degradation by ambient air. One such solution to this issue is to include additives in the inks these semiconductors would be cast from that would enhance device stability after film deposition. This method would reduce the number of processing steps needed to fabricate devices compared to other stabilization methods, such as encapsulation. In this study, the stabilization of n‐type performance of the semiconductor poly{[N,N′‐bis(2‐octyldodecyl)‐naphthalene‐1,4,5,8‐bis(dicarboximide)‐2,6‐diyl]‐alt‐5,5′‐(2,29‐bisthiophene)} (P(NDI2OD‐T2)) when it is blended with an increasing proportion by weight of poly(2‐vinylpyridine) (P2VP) is reported. The simple synthesis of P2VP also makes it an ideal candidate material for large‐scale applications. Concentrations as low as 0.1% P2VP incorporated into the P(NDI2OD‐T2) blends provided an immediate stabilization effect, and at 10% and 50%, longer‐term stability after one week is observed. Preparation of a thin organic film on metallic electrodes can protect substrates against corrosion. These organic underlayers also help electrodeposition of metallic electrocatalysts as well as enhance the quality and performance of electrodes. In this study, a thin self-assembled monolayer film of Bingöl pollen (BP-SAM) was fabricated on a copper substrate (Cu/BP-SAM) in pure water as solvent. The film was prepared by exposing a Cu substrate to a 1000 ppm aqueous pollen solution for 24 h assembly time. Then, a small amount of Ni, known for its good catalytic properties for water splitting process, was electrodeposited over the previously assembled SAM film (Cu/BP-SAM/Ni) to enhance its catalytic effect for hydrogen evolution reaction. The modified surfaces were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and contact angle (CA) studies. Water splitting activity of the Cu/BP-SAM and Cu/BP-SAM/Ni electrodes were investigated in 6 M KOH solution at 298 K. The data obtained indicated that the modification of Cu surface with BP-SAM and BP-SAM/Ni reduces polarization resistance (R p) by 35.3% and 84.4%, respectively at −100 mV cathodic overpotential. The BP-SAM films were adherent to the Cu substracte and have a uniform structure. Ni particles were homogenously deposed over the SAM film and have high quality. The Cu/BP-SAM/Ni electrode has promising electrochemical time-stability during the electrolysis and losses only 6.5% of its activity during the long-time electrolysis. Regulating perovskite film crystallization and avoiding bulk defects during the deposition process are essential for achieving perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with excellent power conversion efficiency (PCE) and stability. Herein, the synergistic effects between n-type, narrow-bandgap conjugated organic molecules (2,2'- ((2Z,2' Z)-((5,5'-(4,4,9,9-tetrakis(4-hexylphenyl)-4,9-dihydros-indaceno[1,2-b:5,6- b'] dithiophene-2,7-diyl)bis(4-((2-ethylhexyl)oxy)thiophene-5,2-diyl))bis(methanylylidene)) bis(3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-indene-2,1-diylidene))dimalononitrile [IEICO]) and perovskites on film surface morphology and stability, and the regulation mechanism on bulk defects in MAPb(I0.97Br0.03)3:IEICO films are explored. The results of theoretical and experimental studies indicate that a large number of electrons on the C=O and -C≡N surface functional groups of IEICO can function as Lewis bases and exhibit strong interactions with uncoordinated Pb2+ ions, substantially reducing bulk defects. Moreover, the resulting MAPb(I0.97Br0.03)3:IEICO film exhibits an optical response in the near-infrared region and an increased crystallite size. Consequently, the MAPb(I0.97Br0.03)3: IEICO PSCs with a p--i--n device structure demonstrate a PCE exceeding 20%. In addition, the MAPb(I0.97Br0.03)3:IEICO PSCs possess superior stability and negligible photocurrent hysteresis. These results suggest that the incorporation of near-infrared organic molecules into perovskites provides a simple method to achieve high-performance PSCs and realize the utilization of near-infrared wavelengths. The realization of high‐performance photolithographic coplanar organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) is fundamental to boost cosmically commercial applications of organic electronics. However, photolithographic coplanar OTFTs generally suffer from poor charge injection and therefore poor filed‐effect performance. Here, a simple and effective strategy is developed to fabricate photolithographic rugged electrodes, and successfully achieve high‐density low‐contact‐resistance photolithographic coplanar OTFTs. Based on this versatile electrode, the wafer‐scale photolithographic rugged electrode can be easily achieved, and the device density of the coplanar OTFTs is as high as 28000 cm−2. The device shows excellent electrical properties with mobility up to 2.01 cm2 V−1 s−1 and Rc as low as 7.8 kΩ cm, which is superior to all the reported Ag‐electrode coplanar OTFTs. This work shows a reliable strategy to reduce the contact resistance of photolithographic coplanar OTFTs and elucidates the effect of injection resistance (Rinj) and access resistance (Racc) on coplanar OTFTs. The results of solving the problem of modeling the interaction of iron Fe3+ nanoparticles with thin bilayer membranes were represented. The purpose of the work was to create a physical model of the behavior and interaction of Fe3+ iron nanoparticles, which are located near thin films of organic substances. For this, physical model systems with thin films - BPM (bilayer phospholipid membranes) and BLM (bilayer lipid membranes) were considered and analyzed, and iron nanoparticles were introduced into these systems. To fulfill the given task, the data search methods ("data mining") obtained by the gas-liquid chromatography were used, as well as ones obtained in experiments with registration of transmembrane electric currents through artificial two-layer BPM and BLM membranes, and partially ones from the experiments on natural membranes with technique of voltage clamp. Since the applied FeCl3 undergoes hydrolysis, the formed hydroxyl groups interact with BLM membranes, also participating in the sum of interaction effects. Thus, it was concluded about the important role of hydroxyl groups in the mechanism of anionic selectivity of BLM, which is a confirmation of previously obtained research data. A number of effects with participation of ionophores, which increase the ion permeability of artificial BLM membranes, were also considered; they can bind metal ions due to iondipole interaction. The described system with a membrane and iron (III) ions located near it can be used to study a number of phenomena on both artificial and natural membranes, for example, when iron nanoparticles were absorbed by human body from the environment. For all considered cases, known physical and physico-chemical regularities and the corresponding developed mathematical apparatus were verified. Namely, analytical expressions based on electrostatic interactions of electric charges associated with Fe3+ ions and localized on membrane surfaces were valid for describing the considered effects. The considered model membranes are on the border between living and non-living nature. At the same time, these systems are simple systems to which the laws of physics and physical chemistry are applicable. And, in some cases, when developing some technical hybrid systems, they can play the role of biosensors. Due to their simplicity, such models can be reproduced quite easily in the conditions of experiments, substances testing with analytical purpose in extreme situations. In an organic semiconductor optoelectronic device, the built-in field within the active layer is typically determined by the difference in contact potentials of the device. However, the presence of space charges and trap states contribute to the electric field within the thin film. Depending on the maximum applied forward voltage, the trap states can be charged, inducing hysteresis in the optoelectronic response of the system. In this work, we investigate the electric fields inside organic photovoltaic device structures, in the presence of traps, using electroabsorption (EA) spectroscopy. Comparing simulations with our experimental results, we explained the origin of hysteresis in the electroabsorption signal as a function of applied DC bias. We solved Poisson's equation to estimate the densities of trapped carriers in the active layers. The filled trap densities in poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT) and poly[(2,5-bis(2-hexyldecyloxy)phenylene)-alt-(5,6-difluoro-4,7-di(thiophen-2-yl)benzo[c]-[1,2,5]thiadiazole)] (PPDT2FBT) were found to be ∼ 1 × 10 17 and ∼ 6 × 10 16 cm − 3 , respectively. From the transient EA measurements, the estimated values of energies of the trap states with respect to the HOMO level were 0.82 and 0.76 eV in P3HT and 0.70 and 0.64 eV in PPDT2FBT, which indicated the presence of midgap traps in these organic semiconductor thin films. Such trap induced changes in the internal fields within the active layers, affect the mobility and carrier transport in the organic optoelectronic devices. The midgap traps lead to exciton quenching and also act as non-radiative recombination centers, resulting in reduction in luminescence efficiency of the active layers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
