In the contemporary digital age, continued online learning behaviors have become indispensable for fostering employee development. However, the learning and development literature predominantly focuses on traditional instructor‐led approaches. It remains unclear how organizations can shape employees' learning behaviors, particularly in the context of online learning. The current study clarifies this underexplored research area by investigating how organizational investment in employee developmental climate (IEDC) can promote employees' continued online learning behaviors. Drawing on social influence theory and employing a multilevel research design, we find empirical support for our research model, which specifies that IEDC positively affects employees' continued online learning behaviors through the effect of normative pressure. The findings also reveal the moderating role of online learning facilitating conditions. Specifically, in firms characterized by higher levels of online learning facilitating conditions, the positive relationship between IEDC and normative pressure becomes more pronounced when compared to organizations with lower levels of such facilitating conditions. Following trends in entertainment streaming services, online educational platforms are increasingly offering users flexible "on-demand" content options. It is important to understand how the timing of content release affects learning behaviors and firm revenue drivers. The current research studies over 67,000 users taking a marketing course before versus after a natural experiment in which the platform switched the course from a scheduled weekly-release format to an on-demand format with all content immediately available. The switch to on-demand positively impacted short-term firm revenue by increasing the number and proportion of certificate-paying users, suggesting that on-demand content can attract a broader set of consumers who value flexibility. On the downside, the switch resulted in users exhibiting lower lecture completion rates and quiz performance and taking fewer additional business courses on the platform, representing a long-term cost. The results were robust to propensity score matching and stratification. The analyses also revealed that on-demand content enabled learning patterns that deviated from a standard evenly paced schedule, including "strategic" binge learning and stretching out engagement past the recommended course period. Thus, while on-demand formats can boost revenues by bringing in more paying users, managers must consider new strategies for maintaining performance and engagement levels within these environments. Although educators in the field of kinesiology implement online education in various forms, online education rarely receives attention in literature. The purpose of this study is to explore online courses in the subject matter of kinesiology through the community of inquiry framework. This mixed-method study adopted a multiple case study approach collecting data using survey, learning management system analysis, and semi-structured interviews. The analysis of the quantitative and qualitative data revealed that instructors shared high intentions toward the implementation of teaching and cognitive presences. The online instructors expressed much lower levels of intentions to support the social presence. The authors suggest online instructors be mindful of students' engagement that is bound to the interplay of different types of learning activities. The aim of this study was to determine factors associated with participation of community-dwelling older Australians (≥65 years) in the Exercise Right for Active Ageing program, consisting of 12 low- to moderate-intensity group exercise classes, delivered weekly, in person or online, by accredited exercise scientists and physiologists across Australia. Out of 6,949 participants recruited, 6,626 (95%) attended one or more classes and were included in the primary analysis, and 49% of participants attended all 12 classes. Factors associated with higher class attendance included participation in yoga/flexibility/mobility classes, attendance at a free trial class (adjusted incidence rate ratio [95% confidence interval]: 1.05 [1.03, 1.08]), and attending online classes (1.19 [1.11, 1.26]). Factors associated with lower class attendance included state of residence, living in inner regional areas (0.95 [0.93, 0.98]), and having two or more comorbidities (0.97 [0.95, 0.99]). High class attendance suggests that the Exercise Right for Active Ageing program was well received by older Australians, particularly in states less impacted by COVID-19 lockdowns. We prove novel algorithmic guarantees for several online problems in the smoothed analysis model. In this model, at each time step an adversary chooses an input distribution with density function bounded above pointwise by \(\tfrac{1}{\sigma }\) times that of the uniform distribution; nature then samples an input from this distribution. Here, σ is a parameter that interpolates between the extremes of worst-case and average case analysis. Crucially, our results hold for adaptive adversaries that can base their choice of input distribution on the decisions of the algorithm and the realizations of the inputs in the previous time steps. An adaptive adversary can nontrivially correlate inputs at different time steps with each other and with the algorithm's current state; this appears to rule out the standard proof approaches in smoothed analysis. This paper presents a general technique for proving smoothed algorithmic guarantees against adaptive adversaries, in effect reducing the setting of an adaptive adversary to the much simpler case of an oblivious adversary (i.e., an adversary that commits in advance to the entire sequence of input distributions). We apply this technique to prove strong smoothed guarantees for three different problems: (1) Online learning: We consider the online prediction problem, where instances are generated from an adaptive sequence of σ-smooth distributions and the hypothesis class has VC dimension d. We bound the regret by \(\tilde{O}(\sqrt {T d\ln (1/\sigma)} + d\ln (T/\sigma))\) and provide a near-matching lower bound. Our result shows that under smoothed analysis, learnability against adaptive adversaries is characterized by the finiteness of the VC dimension. This is as opposed to the worst-case analysis, where online learnability is characterized by Littlestone dimension (which is infinite even in the extremely restricted case of one-dimensional threshold functions). Our results fully answer an open question of Rakhlin et al. [64]. (2) Online discrepancy minimization: We consider the setting of the online Komlós problem, where the input is generated from an adaptive sequence of σ-smooth and isotropic distributions on the ℓ2 unit ball. We bound the ℓ∞ norm of the discrepancy vector by \(\tilde{O}(\ln ^2(\frac{nT}{\sigma }))\). This is as opposed to the worst-case analysis, where the tight discrepancy bound is \(\Theta (\sqrt {T/n})\). We show such \(\mathrm{polylog}(nT/\sigma)\) discrepancy guarantees are not achievable for non-isotropic σ-smooth distributions. (3) Dispersion in online optimization: We consider online optimization with piecewise Lipschitz functions where functions with ℓ discontinuities are chosen by a smoothed adaptive adversary and show that the resulting sequence is \(({\sigma }/{\sqrt {T\ell }}, \tilde{O}(\sqrt {T\ell }))\) -dispersed. That is, every ball of radius \({\sigma }/{\sqrt {T\ell }}\) is split by \(\tilde{O}(\sqrt {T\ell })\) of the partitions made by these functions. This result matches the dispersion parameters of Balcan et al. [13] for oblivious smooth adversaries, up to logarithmic factors. This paper reconceptualizes student engagement with course readings in management education. We challenge the perception of assigned readings as a solely student-centered issue, and propose a codesign approach that emphasizes the relational and intersubjective nature of various stakeholders contributing to the engagement design. The paper extends prior research by identifying concepts of quality of participation, connecting practices, and digital engagement that impact meaningful engagement with course readings. Grounded in action research theory, we propose a framework to design meaningful student engagement that is structured around six dimensions: (1) usefulness, (2) enjoyment, (3) quantity, (4) access, (5) intent, and (6) participative integration. These dimensions are entangled and viewed through three lenses: (a) what, (b) how, and (c) why. This paper presents theoretical and practical contributions, and importantly offers a paradigm shift in how educators and educational developers can enhance engagement with course readings in management education and beyond. This paper begins with the introduction of online education development in U.S. higher education. It examines the challenges of online learning, highlighting that online education often yields poorer outcomes, with lower completion rates and fewer educational learning outcomes. It identifies key determinants impacting online learning outcomes: student agency, the level of interaction within online courses, and digital literacy. The study emphasizes the importance of professional development (PD) for online instructors, especially in community colleges.Critical pedagogy serves as the conceptual framework for the PD, advocating for educational systems that empower students and teachers to challenge oppressive structures and to contribute to educational equity. It stresses the need for instructors to be facilitators of learning, promoting active dialogue and collaborative knowledge construction. The paper discusses scaffolding strategies, promoting student agency, enhancing interaction, and integrating technology-enhanced learning (TEL) as essential components of PD for online instructors.The paper concludes by arguing for the necessity of humanizing online education, aligning it with the principles of critical pedagogy to create more inclusive and empathetic online classrooms. It suggests that as online education evolves, there is a responsibility to ensure that PD programs reflect these humanizing principles, contributing to a more equitable and reflective education system.

BACKGROUND: Many surgeons use online videos to learn. However, these videos vary in content, quality, and educational value. In the setting of recent work questioning the safety of robotic-assisted cholecystectomies, we aimed (1) to identify highly watched online videos of robotic-assisted cholecystectomies, (2) to determine whether these videos demonstrate suboptimal techniques, and (3) to compare videos based on platform. METHODS: Two authors searched YouTube and a members-only Facebook group to identify highly watched videos of robotic-assisted cholecystectomies. Three members of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons Safe Cholecystectomy Task Force then reviewed videos in random order. These three members rated each video using Sanford and Strasbergs six-point criteria for critical view of safety (CVS) scoring and the Parkland grading scale for cholecystitis. We performed regression to determine any association between Parkland grade and CVS score. We also compared scores between the YouTube and Facebook videos using a t test. RESULTS: We identified 50 videos of robotic-assisted cholecystectomies, including 25 from YouTube and 25 from Facebook. Of the 50 videos, six demonstrated a top-down approach. The remaining 44 videos received a mean of 2.4 of 6 points for the CVS score (SD = 1.8). Overall, 4 of the 50 videos (8%) received a passing CVS score of 5 or 6. Videos received a mean of 2.4 of 5 points for the Parkland grade (SD = 0.9). Videos on YouTube had lower CVS scores than videos on Facebook (1.9 vs. 2.8, respectively), though this difference was not significant (p = 0.09). By regression, there was no association between Parkland grade and CVS score (p = 0.13). CONCLUSION: Publicly available and closed-group online videos of robotic-assisted cholecystectomy demonstrated inadequate dissection and may be of limited educational value. Future work should center on introducing measures to identify and feature videos with high-quality techniques most useful to surgeons.

Effective teamwork is critical in today's workplace, and management education plays a vital role in preparing students to work in teams. As a result, student teams are increasingly used in management courses. Research indicates that most teams operate virtually (i.e., rely on technology-mediated communication) to some degree. However, the potential negative impact of virtuality in on-campus student teams is often overlooked, with a focus instead on studying entirely virtual teams with geographically dispersed members in online classes. We raise awareness in management education about the extent and impact of team virtuality in on-campus student teams, as well as strategies to mitigate its potentially harmful effects. Using a sample of on-campus student teams, we find substantial variation in team virtuality that negatively relates to team performance through team information sharing. We also find a positive relationship between team virtual communication behaviors and team information sharing, offsetting virtuality's negative effect. Our results have important theoretical implications for management education research involving student teams and virtual team research. Exercise is the single most effective strategy to reduce the risk of falls. Online classes have grown in popularity, but the benefits of online classes remain unknown. Zoomers on the Go is a peer-led 12-week exercise program offered twice weekly to adults 50+ years old. The main outcome was lower body strength measured by the 30-s chair stand test. Other outcomes included dropout, attendance, balance, cardiorespiratory fitness, and perceived health. A total of 74 participants (age 66.3 ± 7.1 years) in the online group and 84 participants in the in-person group (age 67.3 ± 7.2 years) completed the program, with attendance for the online group. Both groups significantly improved their 30-s chair stand, cardiorespiratory fitness, and balance (p <.001) with no difference in functional benefits between groups. The in-person group improved their perceived health and significantly reduced levels of stress and depression, while no such changes were observed in the online group. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Online exercise programming has become increasingly popular in recent years, including for older adults. Instructors hold unique perspectives on such programming that could yield important insights for effective program design and delivery. The purpose of this study was to qualitatively examine instructors' perceptions and experiences teaching exercise classes online to older adults. Using qualitative description, 19 instructors from a community exercise program for seniors completed a one-on-one semistructured interview. We analyzed data using reflexive thematic analysis and generated three main themes: (a) characteristics of effective online instructors, (b) challenges to delivering online exercise programming to older adults, and (c) future of online exercise programming. Most participants enjoyed delivering online exercise classes and developing the unique skills (particularly related to fostering social experiences and engaging with participants) required to be effective online exercise instructors. Purpose: This prospective cohort study investigated the impact of online and hybrid teaching of university-required physical education on students' physical literacy-related correlates. To avoid the widespread pandemic, the university decided to offer courses online through video conferencing or via a hybrid mode. When compared with face-to-face instruction, these formats may intensely affect students' physical literacy journey during early adulthood. Methods: A group of 1,738 students (42% males and 58% females) aged 18.52 (±1.29) responded to a three-phase online survey in various courses. Results: The structural equation modeling determined that motivation and physical activity levels were negatively related to physical competence and knowledge and understanding. Further repeated-measure analyses recognized the interaction effect of amotivation. Results indicated that participants in the online teaching mode may experience a learning predicament over those in the hybrid one. Research into the psychology of coaching has been somewhat neglected in comparison to research on the psychological development of athletes. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a brief online rational-emotive-behavioral-therapy (REBT) program on coach irrational beliefs and well-being. Coaching staff from an elite international canoeing team (N = 4) took part in a three-session (30- to 40-min) REBT program. Participants completed measures of irrational beliefs and mental well-being at preintervention, postintervention, and follow-up (1 month) time points. Visual analyses and social validation revealed that the intervention reduced irrational beliefs and enhanced mental well-being in two participants. However, REBT was more effective for some coaches than others, and follow-up data indicated a return to base levels in some coaches. In healthcare professions, soft skills contribute to critical thinking, decision-making, and patient-centered care. While important to the delivery of high-quality medical care, soft skills are often underemphasized during healthcare training in low-and-middle-income countries. Despite South Asias large population, the efficacy and viability of a digital soft skills curriculum for South Asian healthcare practitioners has not been studied to date. We hypothesized that a web-based, multilingual, soft skills course could aid the understanding and application of soft skills to improve healthcare practitioner knowledge, confidence, attitudes, and intent-to-change clinical practice.In September 2019 a needs assessment observing soft skills practices was conducted in several Indian states. We developed a communication-focused soft skills curriculum that comprised seven 10-minute video lectures, recorded in spoken English and Hindi. Participants consisted of any practicing healthcare professionals and trainees in select South Asian countries age 18 and over. Participant knowledge, confidence, attitudes, and intent-to-change clinical practice were evaluated using pre- and post-course tests and surveys. Statistical analyses were performed using STATA and SPSS.From July 26, 2021 to September 26, 2021, 5750 registered and attempted the course, 2628 unique participants completed the pre-test, and 1566 unique participants completed the post-test. In 2021, the assessment-data management librarian at Lehman College Library decided to conduct a privacy audit of the Library's public computers and networks. This audit comprised one of the Library's two annual formal assessments of resources and services. The American Library Association's (ALA) Library Privacy Checklist for Public Access Computers and Networks was selected to review 17 key items related to protecting user privacy and confidentiality. Faculty and staff from Circulation, Library Technology, and Online Learning identified 10 indicators needing work. With the increasing prevalence of technology-enhanced learning environments, self-regulated learning (SRL) has become a crucial skill for management students and graduates in the 21st century. Self-regulated learners can take control of their own learning process by setting learning objectives and selecting appropriate learning strategies. As a result of the recent COVID-19 crisis, universities were compelled to shift to online course delivery, which greatly reduced social interaction between educators and learners and challenged educators' feedback practices. To address this issue, we developed and embedded a technology-based intervention with temporal-proximate and regular formative feedback assessments in a large-scale management course to promote graduate students' SRL practices. We evaluated the intervention in a quasi-experiment, which found that students with the embedded SRL intervention had higher self-assessment and learning outcome scores and lower absolute self-assessment deviation. Our study makes at least three contributions. First, we shed light on students' SRL strategies in times of emergency remote learning, highlighting their extensive need for social support and comparison. Second, we extend the literature on SRL and social-cognitive theory by unveiling a hidden effect when embedding temporal-proximate and regular interventions. Multi-campus public higher education governance systems exist in 44 of the 50 U.S. states. They include all the largest and most influential public colleges and universities in the United States, educating fully 75 percent of the nation’s public sector students. Their impact is enormous. And yet, they are largely neglected and as a tool for improvement are underutilized. Meanwhile, many states continue to struggle achieving their goals for higher education attainment, social and economic mobility, workforce development, equitable access and affordability, technological innovation, and human and environmental health. The dearth of scholarly research on these systems and their more effective use is explored in a forthcoming volume edited by the author. This paper extracts from that volume a set of specific ways in which systems can leverage their unique ability to use scale in servie to their mission.

The pandemic has altered accounting education with the widespread adoption of remote evaluation platforms. We apply the lens of the fraud triangle to consider how the adoption of remote evaluation influences accounting students' ethical values by measuring the incidence of cheating behavior as well as capturing their perceptions of their opportunity to cheat and their rationalization of cheating behavior. Consistent with prior research, our results show that cheating is higher in the online environment compared to remote evaluation, although the use of proctoring software in online evaluation appears to mitigate but not eliminate students' the unethical behavior. However, cheating was not reduced when students attest to an honor code during the beginning of an exam. Nonetheless, we find that the use of both proctoring software and honor codes reduces students' perceptions of opportunity and rationalization of cheating behavior. It follows that the remote evaluation environment may unintentionally be negatively influencing the ethicality of students and future accounting professionals by promoting cheating behavior and, by so doing, negatively influencing the development of unethical values of accounting students and future accounting professionals. Educators should consider the use of appropriate educational interventions to reduce the incidence and opportunities for unethical behavior and, by so doing, help promote the development of ethical values in future accounting professionals. Background: Research training is important for medical trainees, because it improves their critical thinking, problem-solving, and the application of scientific principles to clinical practice. The COVID-19 Pandemic, which limited trainees' access to hospitals, had also disrupted traditional research training. The International Emergency Medicine Education Project introduced the online Fundamentals of Research in Medicine course to support trainees. The course was designed as an expert interview. This format intended to foster a relaxed learning environment and promote experience sharing rather than transferring only factual information about research. This study assesses the course's effect on participants' perceived knowledge and confidence in research concepts. Methods: A prospective observational mixed-methods research was conducted through the International Emergency Medicine Education Project's online platform. Pre- and post-course surveys measured participants' perceived knowledge and confidence levels across 16 research-related topics. Quantitative survey data were analysed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test, and qualitative feedback was evaluated to explore participants' experiences. Results: A total of 272 participants enrolled in the course. 168 participants started, and 52 (19.2%) completed the pre- and post-surveys and the course completion exam. Medical students and interns, as well as participants from Africa and Asia, comprised the majority. Most participants were from India. 78.8% of the participants were from low-income or lower-middle-income countries. Participants' perceived knowledge and confidence significantly improved after completing the course, p < 0.001, with large effect sizes (-0.902 and − 0.819, respectively). Qualitative feedback highlighted the course's clarity, simplicity, and effectiveness of the informal interview format. Some participants suggested adding more visual aids and detailed explanations for complex topics. Conclusions: The online course, designed as an interview format, effectively enhanced participants' perceived research knowledge and confidence. Future studies should incorporate objective measures of research skill acquisition from online courses and evaluate the long-term impact on participants' academic and professional development. Purpose: Health and social care professionals (professionals) often lack knowledge, skills and confidence to support adults at end of life with significant caregiving responsibilities for children, < 18. A recent systematic review highlighted a dearth of educational interventions (n = 2) to equip professionals to provide supportive care to families when a parent has cancer. Addressing an evident gap in education, this paper details the adaption and optimisation of a face-to-face educational intervention to an accessible eLearning resource. Methods: Guided by the 'Person-based Approach', a theory-driven and evidence-based face-to-face educational intervention was adapted and optimised as an eLearning resource. This incorporated current evidence, alongside insights from an expert group, learning technologists and research team, leading to the design of an eLearning prototype. This was optimised for acceptability and usability using think-aloud interviews with end-users (n = 13) and patient and public involvement (n = 4). Results: An iterative adaption and optimisation process enabled implementation of navigational improvements, changes to enhance clarity on language and appropriateness of images and interactive components. During optimisation, positive feedback was reported; especially regarding the 'look and feel' and on the educational videos and reflective exercises embedded throughout the eLearning resource. Conclusion: The systematic adaption and optimisation of this novel eLearning resource has aimed to promote relevance, appropriateness, and applicability of an accessible evidence-based and theory-driven training resource for professionals. It has the potential to promote family-centred supportive end of life cancer care, which ultimately can promote better bereavement outcomes. Satisfaction of education programmes is fundamental to accomplishing a professional identity of the graduates especially in programmes where clinical practicum forms a core element in the education process. This study aimed to detect the overall SLP students’ level of satisfaction with online instruction of clinical practicum during the COVID-19 pandemic. A questionnaire was administered for a convenience sample of two cohorts of students (n = 186). The number of participants who responded to the questionnaire, n = 149. The questionnaire was based on a construct of 30 questions, developed on a basis to reflect the components of key points such as student-patient-supervisor interaction, assessment, and treatment plans, the success of treatment, infection control measures, student skills, and training outcomes, student evaluation, use of instruments and tools, as well as report writing. Students rated their online instruction as very low. Only 30.7% agreed or strongly agreed that they were satisfied and fulfiled the expected training outcomes. ‘Self-reliance in searching for information from different resources’ was the most cited motivation for satisfaction. ‘Deprivation from exposure to instrumentation’ was the most cited motivation for dissatisfaction. The findings support the literature in the area of student satisfaction with e-learning methods of instruction in speech pathology programmes and reveal several implications regarding the satisfaction/dissatisfaction balance. Online teaching competency has been treated as teachers’ ability to execute standardised online teaching roles. This does not capture teachers’ pedagogical agility for manoeuvring a variety of online teaching contexts. This study conceptualises online teaching dexterity as teachers’ technical dexterity with managing learning technologies, and their pedagogical agility to implement online learning through subject domain online teaching dexterity, dexterity over online modalities, online assessment dexterity, and dexterity for manifesting care to both students and self. Through an international survey of 163 higher education academics from New Zealand and China, this five-dimension model was validated with exploratory factor analysis. Subsequent cluster analysis identified four distinct online teaching dexterity profiles – All-rounders, Teaching-driven, Tech-driven, and Care-driven. These profiles reveal different teacher professional development needs through their relative confidence in the technical and pedagogical dimensions of online teaching dexterity. This study aimed to understand the lived experiences of seasoned language instructors in online teaching. The study employed a qualitative research design using a phenomenological approach with 10 participants selected through purposive sampling from higher educational institutions in General Santos City. Results revealed that seasoned language instructors had negative and positive views on challenges in online teaching. They view the challenges as technological hurdles, situations that evoke uncertainty, limit students' participation, and prevalence of dishonesty. Additionally, language education becomes complex. On a positive note, these challenges promote innovative learning and serve as motivating factors that ignite passion for teaching. Coping mechanisms employed by seasoned language instructors encompass seeking help and collaboration, maintaining open-mindedness and introspection, participating in seminar workshops, sustaining a work-life balance, keeping a positive outlook, and seeking divine providence. Furthermore, their insights on improving online teaching accentuate the importance of learning by doing, upgrading technological skills, and pedagogical creativity, seeking peer support, and emphasizing the need for school administrators to be responsive to the evolving demands of online education. Thus, adjusting to online teaching requires passion and commitment to overcome the hurdles. Background: The role of parent support for adolescents has been validated in online learning. However, less attention has been paid to undergraduates. Main body: The research used self-reported questionnaires to investigate the mediating effects of self-regulation in parent autonomy support and academic engagement (cognitive, behavioral, and emotional dimensions) within the online environment in the context of Chinese culture. Objective: The present study recruited 1908 undergraduates in China. Methods: The students completed measures of parent autonomy support, self-regulation and three sub-dimensions of academic engagement. Results: The results indicated that parent autonomy support exerted a direct and significant effect on the three sub-dimensions of academic engagement in online learning. Self-regulation partially mediated the relations between parent autonomy support and three sub-dimensions of academic engagement. Conclusion: These findings showed parents should autonomously support students to promote their cognitive, behavioral, and emotional engagement. AbstractDistance education environments promote more parental responsibility and teachers’ involvement in students’ education. Studies on online learning have shown that students may enhance their academic performance to a level comparable to that of conventional classroom instruction. The purpose of the current study is to evaluate parents’ concerns and instructors’ perceptions about students in online learning generally. The study included 800 samples of parents and instructors of higher secondary students in the first and second grades who responded to an online questionnaire. The research used a cross-sectional strategy, simple randomized sampling, and an online questionnaire to get a sample representative of teachers and parents. The findings of educator and parent attitudes about students participating in online learning were analyzed using SPSS23. The outcome of our study revealed an encouraging and statistically significant association between educators and parents concerning online education at the level of significance of 0.01, which implies that the greater level of educator attitudes and parent attitudes shows a better relationship between them. The study’s findings indicate that institutions can understand teachers’ viewpoints on students participating in online learning and parents’ concerns under unique circumstances. Parents and teachers assist students as they navigate the difficulties of homeschooling. These techniques could improve the effectiveness of online learning for students whose living arrangements vary. To help them, the government should improve parent-teacher communication. AbstractTeachers’ approaches to teaching have been proved to influence students’ learning outcomes in face-to-face teaching. It is necessary to extend the research to approaches to teaching in online environments, as few empirical studies have been conducted for this mode of study. This study aimed to characterize lecturers’ approaches to teaching in two distinct forms of online teaching in distance education courses and examine the influences upon the approaches to online teaching adopted. Data were collected from interviews with fourteen lecturers in a Vietnamese regional university and analyzed using a grounded theory approach. The study revealed a framework for approaches to online teaching with one motivation and seven strategy components. System-level design issues were found to impact upon approaches to online teaching, so components of synchronous/asynchronous teaching and craft/industrialized system were added to the framework. Background: Self-Directed Learning (SDL) is a subjective concept with no universally agreed definition. The aim of this project was to obtain the perspectives of Orthopaedic trainee registrars on SDL. Methods: Seven Orthopaedic trainees in the Southwest Peninsula region were recruited in person by the primary author as an Orthopaedic trainee on the same programme as the participants. A one-hour Microsoft teams video interview was arranged at a mutually convenient time exploring several topics including learning resources, experiential learning, learning strategies, training programme requirements and assessment. The interviews were audio recorded and transcribed verbatim. Transcripts were coded using Corbin's and Strauss's published coding method and analysed to develop a model of SDL in this training context. Results: Six learning stages were identified from the coded transcripts and these stages were like Knowles's stages of SDL. Participants felt less autonomous during the identification of knowledge gaps, goal setting and evaluation of learning stages. Participants perceived to have more control over the selection of strategies, and learning stages of SDL. The factors which influenced autonomy at various stages of SDL included supervisors, experiential learning opportunities, service provision competing with learning opportunities, training programme requirements and the power dynamic between trainees and supervisors. Self-advocacy by the trainees for experiential learning opportunities and for their progression was an additional action relevant to SDL that was evident. Online learning resources such as Orthobullets.com, YouTube videos, external revision courses, collaboration and webinars encouraged more autonomy with SDL. Conclusions: Although the United kingdom's Trauma and Orthopaedic curriculum is described as trainee led and SDL is encouraged, in practice Orthopaedic trainees felt limited autonomy with the various stages of SDL due to external factors including their level of experience and the training environment. Trainees' experiences around self-advocacy highlighted the importance of a collaborative and supportive learning culture emphasising dialogue, receiving high quality feedback, and openness for successful progression. The education system has sought ways to deliver quality education using different means and platforms. This study dives into the various experiences of students in hybrid learning. This study focuses on students' experiences with hybrid learning, including the difficulties they overcame, the adjustments they had to make, the lessons they learned from engaging in this type of learning that combines in-person and online classes, as well as their perceptions of their learning environment and general well-being as learners. The researchers aim to elucidate the challenges they have encountered and surpassed, and the obstacles they have adapted to achieve success during hybrid learning, which is still a rather fresh form of learning for most students and teachers alike. The study not only aims to assist in marking hybrid learning as a feasible and effective mode of learning, but also wishes to relay the difficulties students have faced and overcome, and the perceived strengths and weaknesses of the two primary modes of learning we have discussed. The aim of this study was, by using a web-based training system, to explore the changes in a secondary school mathematics teacher’s knowledge of students, knowledge of teaching and knowledge of content and to determine how he reflected these changes in his teaching. The web-based training system designed and used in this study was created within the scope of a project to support the professional development of mathematics teachers through hypothetical learning trajectories. Designed as an action research project, the research process included the following phases: the teacher prepared the learning trajectory and the lesson plan, implemented the plan, revised the learning trajectory and the plan and progressed cyclically following the feedback about these phases. Data collected through reflection questions, video-recordings of teaching sessions and voice-recordings of the pre- and post-clinical interviews were analysed thematically. Analysis of the feedback given via the web-based training system showed that the teacher’s knowledge of students and his knowledge of teaching mathematics improved and, therefore, the teacher made significant progress in preparing lesson plans, attaching importance to students’ conceptual learning, questioning student thinking and managing class discussions. Inconsistent results are observed in the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) with different montages on motor learning. This study aimed to compare the effects of anodal and cathodal tDCS (c‐tDCS) over primary motor cortex (M1) at different intensities on motor learning in healthy young adults. The participants were randomly divided into: (1) 1 mA M1 c‐tDCS, (2) 1 mA M1 anodal tDCS (a‐tDCS), (3) 2 mA M1 c‐tDCS, (4) 2 mA M1 a‐tDCS and (5) M1 sham tDCS groups. The groups received 20‐min stimulation with serial reaction time task (SRTT) incidentally, while the tDCS was turned off after 30 s in the sham tDCS group. Response time (RT) and error rate (ER) during SRTT were assessed prior, during and 72 h after the intervention. The results of the paired t‐test indicated that online learning occurred in all groups (p < 0.05), except in M1 c‐tDCS (1 mA) (p > 0.05). One‐way ANOVA analysis also indicated that there were differences in offline learning (RT (F(DF) = 5.19(4); p < 0.001; and ER (F(DF) = 9(4), p < 0.0001) among groups, with more offline learning in 1 mA M1 a‐tDCS, 2 mA M1 c‐tDCS and 2 mA M1 a‐tDCS groups (p < 0.05). On the other hand, the 1 mA M1 c‐tDCS group did not indicate any consolidation effect or even a trend toward negative offline learning. M1 a‐tDCS with different intensities and also 2 mA M1 c‐tDCS may be helpful for the enhancement of motor learning in young healthy adults. Background: Online learning is becoming increasingly essential for health professionals, and it is necessary to understand how this modality affects clinical nurses' learning of Evidence-Based Practice (EBP). For this reason, the present study sought to assess the effectiveness of an online training program in improving nurses' EBP competence. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a pretest–posttest design was conducted with a control group and without randomization for a period of 6 months. The intervention was an online self-learning course based on Melnyk's seven steps of Evidence-Based Practice (EBP). The course was structured into sequential modules requiring 72 h of work, with task completions and tests necessary for progression. Participants had three months to complete the course. EBP competence was measured with the EBP-COQ Prof© questionnaire. Data analysis included percentages, means, standard deviations, chi-square tests, student's t-tests, and a two-way repeated measures analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). Results: The analysis of the changes observed in each dimension and the overall EBP competence between the intervention group (IG) and the control group (CG) showed a significant group*time interaction in three of the four dimensions of the questionnaire. The results indicated that the online Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) course significantly improved knowledge, skills, and utilization three months after its completion. In the IG, the mean score was 44.04 (standard deviation (SD) = 7), compared to 37.83 (SD = 8.5) in the CG (p < 0.001). Regarding skills, the IG had a mean score of 24.24 (SD = 3.8), while the CG scored 23.01 (SD = 3.1) (p = 0.008). For utilization, the mean score in the IG was 36.77 (SD = 6.8), and the CG was 33.12 (SD = 6.3) (p = 0.005). Overall competence also showed a statistically significant difference, with the IG achieving a mean score of 141.22 (SD = 20.0) compared to the CG with a mean score of 130.34 (SD = 16.7) (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Training through an online education platform for three months (72 h) is an effective tool for improving the competence in Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) of clinical nurses. A significant increase was observed in knowledge and moderate improvements in skills and the application of EBP. Background: This study aimed to contribute to a better understanding of the context, mechanisms and outcomes in the implementation process of an eHealth video consultation program in primary care. The study focused on how the program is normalized in the primary care setting. The primary research question for this study is "in what ways is the implementation of video consultation normalized in primary care?". Methods: The qualitative design and content analysis of primary data from the transcripts were based on in-depth interviews, complemented with free-text answers to open-ended survey questions and various documents. The study focuses on the large-scale implementation of the public eHealth program Närhälsan Online, which represents more than 100 health centers in Sweden's largest region of Västra Götaland. Multiagent perspectives on how the program is normalized were drawn from expressed perceptions by professions directly linked to both strategic and functional implementation, as well as administration and clinical operation. Results: This study both confirms and enhances the field with a theoretical contribution in six ways to the reviewed previous research, as well as showing practical implications. It also provides multi-agent perspectives on the rapid normalization of the implementation program studied. The rapid change in information technology has made online or blended learning a new norm in higher education. However, the problem of low student engagement in online learning is becoming more prominent. This study explores how college students' proactive personality affects their online learning engagement through the mediating effects of positive emotions and learning motivation. A survey was conducted on college students (N = 1049), and the interrelationships among these variables were analyzed using structural equation modeling. The findings unveiled that: proactive personality positively predicts online learning engagement, positive emotions and learning motivation. Positive emotions and learning motivation significantly positively influence online learning engagement. Moreover, Positive emotions also exert a significant positive impact on learning motivation. In addition, the mediation of positive emotions and learning motivation further strengthened a significant positive correlation between proactive personality and online learning engagement. While the COVID-19 pandemic made the use of video conferencing software a common part of online teaching, little research has explored how to optimize the use of such technologies. This study set out to understand how instructors' choice of professional vs. personal virtual backgrounds may affect students' cognitive learning and instructor's credibility. An online experiment was conducted using a 3 (virtual background: Beach, Architecture, and University) x 2 (student gender: male and female) between-subjects design. The data collected from undergraduate students (n = 466) through an online experiment indicate that female students assess the instructor as credible and have consistent perceived cognitive learning across virtual backgrounds. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic's "Great Online Transition" significantly impacted teachers. Existing research on Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT) lacks longitudinal designs and consideration of subject-specific contexts. This study, using the Stressor-Strain-Outcome framework, investigates psychological needs thwarting (PNT) during ERT on teachers' well-being and online teaching intentions, considering subject of instruction as a potential factor. Methods: Data were collected from 1,369 Chinese primary and middle school teachers of Chinese literature, mathematics, and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) at two time points: two weeks after ERT implementation (Time 1, mid-November 2021) and two months later, after returning to face-to-face teaching (Time 2, mid-January 2022). PNT, emotional exhaustion, psychological distress, and intention towards online teaching were evaluated. Results: Among the types of PNT, competence thwarting emerged as the strongest predictor of emotional exhaustion, which was, in turn, associated with reduced online teaching intention and increased psychological distress. EFL teachers showed stronger associations between PNT, emotional exhaustion, and adverse outcomes, indicating higher susceptibility to strain during ERT. Conclusion: Subject of instruction, particularly for EFL teachers, significantly influences the relationship between PNT and teacher outcomes during ERT. Purpose: To describe the development and content validation of the Upper Limb-Motor Learning Strategy Tool (UL-MLST) that aims to guide clinicians on how to implement and document the motor learning strategies used in the upper limb therapy approaches for children with cerebral palsy. Methods: The study consists of two main stages (1) item generation and development and (2) content validation and refinement. The UL-MLST Online Training Program, Manual and Checklist were developed by the authorship group in stage one. In stage 2, two experts evaluated the UL-MLST regarding the Relevance, Coherence, and Significance of the individual strategies and whether the tool is Relevant, Comprehensive, and Clinically useful. Results: Of sixty-two strategies included in the UL-MLST, 52 strategies were rated as being either "Moderately" or "Highly" Relevant, Coherent, and Significant. Ten strategies did not achieve mutual agreement; however, they did not meet the criteria for deletion and were revised according to expert feedback. Overall, the UL-MST was judged to be Relevant, Comprehensive, and Clinically useful. Conclusions: The UL-MLST provides a valid tool to support clinicians in the implementation of the motor learning strategies for children with cerebral palsy. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: The Upper Limb- Motor Learning Strategy Tool (UL-MLST) Online Training Program, Manual, and Checklist provide a comprehensive package of resources to support the application of motor learning strategies in upper limb therapy for children with cerebral palsy. AbstractThis study investigates the primary factors influencing school achievement during the COVID-19 pandemic from students’ perspectives. The pandemic exacerbated educational inequalities, emphasizing the essential role of teacher effectiveness in boosting student achievement and the significant impact of remote learning challenges. Using focus groups with 74 Portuguese students, this study explores how teacher quality, student engagement, and personal effort contribute to academic success. Results reveal that students credit their success to effective teachers but take personal responsibility for poor performance. Despite literature suggesting the importance of educational leadership, students perceived daily interactions with teachers as more influential. The transition to online learning posed significant challenges, including access to materials and technical issues, which affected student engagement and well-being. AbstractNegative feedback can have detrimental effects on the students’ self-efficacy and learning experience, yet it is inevitable for students who receive low outcomes and need improvement. This study investigates the role of pedagogical agents’ self-disclosure in providing empathy for negative feedback. An online experiment was conducted asking participants (N = 183) to interact with a voice-based pedagogical agent in a between-subjects design: 2 (feedback: positive vs. negative) X 2 (agent: self-disclose vs. non-disclose). The agent instructed students on online learning tasks and provided feedback on their task performance. Our findings showed that the agent’s self-disclosure significantly increased students’ perception of intimacy and cognitive trust toward the agent. A significant interaction effect was observed in intimacy, suggesting that the role of self-disclosure is especially pronounced when negative feedback is provided. Background: Aging is the primary risk factor for sarcopenia and mobility limitations. Exercise reduces these risks, but older adults have low levels of participation in physical activity and exercise. We investigated the preliminary effectiveness of a live, online exercise program on community-dwelling older adults' physical activity levels. Methods: A mixed-method pilot randomized controlled trial was conducted according to CONSORT 2010 statement: extension for pilot and feasibility trials. Sedentary older adults (65–80 years) were randomly assigned to the online exercise intervention (ACTIVE) or a waitlist control (CON) group. Outcomes were measured pre-randomization and following the 8-week intervention for ACTIVE and CON and two months following the end of the intervention for the ACTIVE group. Outcomes included habitual physical activity levels, depression, anxiety, loneliness, life-space mobility, nutrition risk, and feasibility. All participants were invited to participate post-intervention in individual semi-structured qualitative interviews. Reporting of the qualitative research followed the checklist for the Consolidated Criteria for Reporting research. Results: Seventeen older adults (71% women) were allocated to ACTIVE group, while 15 were allocated to CON group (87% women). Following the intervention, participants in the ACTIVE group reported reduced symptoms of depression (ACTIVE: pre = 4.2 ± 2.5; post = 2.2 ± 1.9; CON: pre = 3.5 ± 2.1, post = 3.5 ± 2.1; p <0.001) and improved life-space mobility (ACTIVE: pre = 62.4 ± 14.7; post = 71.8 ± 16.0; CON: pre = 65.1 ± 19.0, post = 63.6 ± 22.0; p = 0.003) compared to waitlist control participants. The ACTIVE group had good adherence (97%) and acceptability (98%). Twenty-two participants participated in qualitative interviews. Five themes were identified, including (1) Feasibility of the online exercise program; (2) Perceived health benefits and improvements; (3) Registered Kinesiologists and Physiotherapists contributed to perceived safety; (4) Social connectivity associated with synchronous/live delivery; and (5) Growing old gracefully and preventing disability. Conclusions: Our online exercise program was acceptable to older adults, had good adherence, reduced depression, and increased life space. ABSTRACT This study examines the academic achievement and attendance duration status of formal education students taking distance education courses using structural equation modelling (SEM). A total of 842 video recordings of online courses attended by 304 students on the MS Teams video conference platform were analysed. It was revealed that 29% of the attendance period was explained by course duration, lateness duration and course type, while 41% of grade point average (GPA) could be explained by course duration, lateness duration, course type and duration of course. The most significant impact on class attendance was lateness to class. Data showed that gender had a moderator effect on the effect of course type on GPA. Results also indicated that the method of teaching has a moderator role in the effect of attendance time on GPA and that the effect of attendance time on GPA is higher in asynchronous classes.
