Aim: Palms are an iconic, diverse and often abundant component of tropical ecosystems that provide many ecosystem services. Being monocots, tree palms are evolutionarily, morphologically and physiologically distinct from other trees, and these differences have important consequences for ecosystem services (e.g., carbon sequestration and storage) and in terms of responses to climate change. We quantified global patterns of tree palm relative abundance to help improve understanding of tropical forests and reduce uncertainty about these ecosystems under climate change. Location: Tropical and subtropical moist forests. Time period: Current. Major taxa studied: Palms (Arecaceae). Methods: We assembled a pantropical dataset of 2,548 forest plots (covering 1,191 ha) and quantified tree palm (i.e., ≥10 cm diameter at breast height) abundance relative to co-occurring non-palm trees. We compared the relative abundance of tree palms across biogeographical realms and tested for associations with palaeoclimate stability, current climate, edaphic conditions and metrics of forest structure. Results: On average, the relative abundance of tree palms was more than five times larger between Neotropical locations and other biogeographical realms. Tree palms were absent in most locations outside the Neotropics but present in >80% of Neotropical locations. The relative abundance of tree palms was more strongly associated with local conditions (e.g., higher mean annual precipitation, lower soil fertility, shallower water table and lower plot mean wood density) than metrics of long-term climate stability. Life-form diversity also influenced the patterns; palm assemblages outside the Neotropics comprise many non-tree (e.g., climbing) palms. Finally, we show that tree palms can influence estimates of above-ground biomass, but the magnitude and direction of the effect require additional work. Conclusions: Tree palms are not only quintessentially tropical, but they are also overwhelmingly Neotropical. Future work to understand the contributions of tree palms to biomass estimates and carbon cycling will be particularly crucial in Neotropical forests.

This study aimed to assess the quality of life of patients with autoimmune diseases (AID) submitted to Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) at two different moments: when the patient is admitted at the hospital and at the moment of hospital discharge (30 days after the transplantation). Patients who attended the BMT unit, were older than 18 years, with conditions and availability to voluntarily collaborate to the study were selected. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview and the Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36). The sample consisted of 19 patients attended at a university hospital in the interior of Sao Paulo State, Brazil. The collected data suggest these patients' quality of life is reduced before the realization of the transplantation, followed by a progression in their diseases. Immediately after the transplantation, an improved capacity to perform daily activities is observed, as well as a renewed possibility of making future plans. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Schistosomiasis, caused by the parasitic blood fluke Schistosoma mansoni, is a significant global health concern, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions. The available chemotherapeutic drug is restricted to praziquantel with present problems related to efficacy, toxicity and resistance, justifying the search for new drugs. Different natural products, including γ-lactones, have demonstrated anthelmintic activity. Thus, in this study, new γ-lactones from Porcelia ponderosa were investigated for their anti-S. mansoni effects in vitro and in vivo., Purpose: To evaluate the therapeutical potential against S. mansoni of the mixture of γ-lactones 1 + 2 obtained from Porcelia ponderosa seeds., Study Design and Methods: The precipitate formed during the concentration of CH 2 Cl 2 extract from seeds of P. ponderosa showed to be composed by a mixture of the new γ-lactones 1 + 2 (in a ratio 77:23) which were chemically characterized using NMR and ESI-HRMS. This mixture was evaluated in vitro and in vivo against S. mansoni, using a murine model of schistosomiasis. Additionally, toxicity of the mixture of 1 + 2 (77:23) was determined using mammalian cell lines (in vitro) or the model organism Caenorhabditis elegans (in vivo)., Results: Seeds of P. ponderosa afforded a mixture of two unreported γ-lactones, 3‑hydroxy-4-methylene-2-(tetracosa-17'Z,23'-diene-13',15'-diynyl)‑but-2-enolide (1) and 3‑hydroxy-4-methylene-2-(tetracos-17'Z-ene-13',15'-diynyl)‑but-2-enolide (2). Initially, the antischistosomal activity of the mixture of 1 + 2 (77:23) was investigated in vitro, and obtained results demonstrate reduced activity against Schistosoma mansoni worms (EC 50 of 83.3 μg/ml) in comparison to positive control praziquantel (EC 50 of 1.5 μg/ml). However, when tested in vivo using oral administration at 400 mg kg -1 , the standard dose used in the murine model of schistosomiasis, the mixture of 1 + 2 (77:23) revealed expressive reductions in both worm burden (65.7 %) and egg production (97.2 %), similar of those observed to praziquantel (89.7 % and 91.5 %, respectively). On the other hand, when treated using 200 and 100 mg kg -1 , reductions in worm burden (25.7 and 12.4 %) and egg production (33.6 and 13.3 %) were also observed. Objective: To provide a comprehensive overview of the epidemiologic characteristics, outcomes, and risk factors of COVID-19-related deaths in children and adolescents in Brazil., Study Design: We conducted a population-based, retrospective cohort study that included all patients aged <18 years with laboratory-confirmed, symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection as registered in official Brazilian national surveillance systems for COVID-19 between February 2020 and February 2023. The primary outcome was COVID-19-related deaths. Odds ratios (ORs) of risk factors associated with death were estimated using multivariable logistic regression., Results: Over a 3-year period, 2 855 704 pediatric patients with symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection were registered in Brazil. Of these, 59 179 (2.1%) were hospitalized, 13 844 (0.48%) were admitted to the intensive care unit, and 4943 (0.17%) received mechanical ventilation. A total of 4740 (0.17%) patients had fatal outcomes. The case fatality rate increased to 7.9% among patients who required hospitalization; 2102 (44.3%) patients who died did not receive advanced critical support. Notably, 2 (65%, 95% CI 58-71) or 3 doses (86%, 95% CI 81-89) of the vaccine provided strong protection against death. The following adjusted covariates were significantly associated with increased odds of death: age (0-4 and 11-17 years), ethnicity (Brown and Indigenous), region (Northeast or North), dyspnea, nosocomial infection, and comorbidities. Background: Brazilian Oral Pathology (OP) and Oral Medicine (OM) have gained significant international recognition. However, no study has yet evaluated the impact of citations in scientific publications. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the impact of citations from Brazilian researchers in OP and OM over the last two decades., Material and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study involving 50 researchers linked to postgraduate programs in OP/OM. Data collected from each professional's Lattes curriculum included gender, academic affiliation, the corporate category of the institution, and location. The number of papers published and citations received between 2004 to 2013 and 2014 to 2023 was also collected from the Web of Science database., Results: Most researchers were male (56%) and from public institutions (90%), mainly in the Southeast region (60%). Over two decades, they collectively published 8,033 scientific articles, with significant growth (p<0.001) from to 2004-2013 to 2014-2023. While the average citations per researcher did not differ significantly between 2004-2013 and 2014-2023 (p=0.538), there was a notable 67.67% increase in citations in the last decade., Conclusions: Brazilian researchers in the areas of OP and OM have demonstrated a significant academic impact over the past two decades, with a marked increase in publications and citations over the last ten years. This highlights the contribution of Brazilians to the global scientific community in these areas.

Background: The CTNS gene mutation causes infantile nephropathic cystinosis (INC). Patients with INC develop Fanconi syndrome and chronic kidney disease (CKD) with significant bone deformations. C57BL/6 Ctns -/- mice are an animal model for studying INC. Hyperleptinaemia results from the kidney's inability to eliminate the hormone leptin in CKD. Ctns -/- mice have elevated serum leptin concentrations. Leptin regulates bone metabolism through its receptor that signals further via the hypothalamic melanocortin 4 receptor (MC4R). Leptin signalling may affect bone health in Ctns -/- mice., Methods: We first defined the time course of bone abnormalities in Ctns -/- mice between 1 and 12 months of age. We used both genetic and pharmacological approaches to investigate leptin signalling in Ctns -/- mice. We generated Ctns -/- Mc4r -/- double knockout mice. Bone phenotype of Ctns -/- Mc4r -/- mice, Ctns -/- mice and wild type (WT) mice at 1, 4, and 9 months of age were compared. We then treated 12-month-old Ctns -/- mice and WT mice with a pegylated leptin receptor antagonist (PLA) (7 mg/kg/day, IP), a MC4R antagonist agouti-related peptide (AgRP) (2 nmol, intracranial infusion on days 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, and 27), or vehicle (normal saline), respectively, for 28 days. Whole-body (BMC/BMD, bone area) and femoral bone phenotype (BMC/BMD, bone area, length and failure load) of mice were measured by DXA and femoral shaft biochemical test. We also measured lean mass content by EchoMRI and muscle function (grip strength and rotarod activity) in mice. Femur protein content of JAK2 and STAT3 was measured by ELISA kits, respectively., Results: Bone defects are present in Ctns -/- mice throughout its first year of life. The deletion of the Mc4r gene attenuated bone disorder in Ctns -/- mice. Femoral BMD, bone area, length, and strength (failure load) were significantly increased in 9-month-old Ctns -/- Mc4r -/- mice than in age-matched Ctns -/- mice. PLA and AgRP treatment significantly increased femoral bone density (BMC/BMD) and mechanical strength in 12-month-old Ctns -/- mice. We adopted the pair-feeding approach for this study to show that the protective effects of PLA or AgRP on bone phenotype are independent of their potent orexigenic effect. Furthermore, an increase in lean mass and in vivo muscle function (grip strength and rotarod activity) are associated with improvements in bone phenotype (femoral BMC/BMD and mechanical strength) in Ctns -/- mice, suggesting a muscle-bone interplay. Decreased femur protein content of JAK2 and STAT3 was evident in Ctns -/- mice. PLA or AgRP treatment attenuated femur STAT3 content in Ctns -/- mice., Conclusions: Our findings suggest a significant role for dysregulated leptin signalling in INC-related bone disorder, either directly or potentially involving a muscle-bone interplay. COVID-19, a respiratory illness with a global impact on millions, has recently been linked to manifestations affecting various bodily systems, including the oral cavity. Studies highlight oral issues, like ulcers, blisters, and white patches, alongside olfactory and gustatory dysfunction, influencing an individual's quality of life. In this context, our study aimed to assess the frequency of oral lesions, olfactory and gustatory disorders, and xerostomia resulting from COVID-19. An observational study was conducted with 414 patients to evaluate the frequency of oral symptoms resulting from COVID-19. Patients were diagnosed with mild symptoms and evaluated through clinical examination of the oral cavity and a questionnaire to assess functional alterations. The findings showed that 139 out of 414 patients presented clinical manifestations, with oral lesions being the most prevalent (19.1%), followed by gustatory disorders (18.1%), xerostomia (14.2%), and olfactory dysfunction (14%). The most prevalent oral lesions were ulcerations ( n = 51), candidiasis ( n = 8), and erythema or red plaques ( n = 7). Unfortunately, 50 (12.1%) patients died during this study. Therefore, oral lesions, olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions, and xerostomia are common symptoms associated with COVID-19.

Background: The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on the circulation of seasonal respiratory viruses. This study aimed to compare the outcomes of SARS-CoV-2 and seasonal viruses in adults hospitalized with severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) during the COVID-19 pandemic., Methods: This population-based cohort study included patients aged > 18 years hospitalized for SARI in Brazil between February 2020 and February 2023. The primary outcome was in-hospital mortality. A competing risk analysis was used to account for competing events., Results: In total, 2,159,171 patients were included in the study. SARS-CoV-2 was the predominant virus (98.7%). The cumulative incidence of in-hospital mortality was 33.1%, 31.5%, 21.0%, 18.7%, and 18.6%, for patients positive for SARS-CoV-2, adenovirus, RSV, influenza, and other viruses, respectively. SARS-CoV-2 accounted for 99.3% of the deaths. Older age, male sex, comorbidities, hospitalization in the northern region, and oxygen saturation <95% were the common risk factors for death among all viruses., Conclusions: In this large cohort study, individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2 or adenovirus had the highest risk of mortality. Irrespective of the virus type, older age, male sex, comorbidities, hospitalization in vulnerable regions, and low oxygen saturation were associated with an increased risk of fatality., (© The Author(s) 2024. Amazonia's floodplain system is the largest and most biodiverse on Earth. Although forests are crucial to the ecological integrity of floodplains, our understanding of their species composition and how this may differ from surrounding forest types is still far too limited, particularly as changing inundation regimes begin to reshape floodplain tree communities and the critical ecosystem functions they underpin. Here we address this gap by taking a spatially explicit look at Amazonia-wide patterns of tree-species turnover and ecological specialization of the region's floodplain forests. We show that the majority of Amazonian tree species can inhabit floodplains, and about a sixth of Amazonian tree diversity is ecologically specialized on floodplains. The degree of specialization in floodplain communities is driven by regional flood patterns, with the most compositionally differentiated floodplain forests located centrally within the fluvial network and contingent on the most extraordinary flood magnitudes regionally. Our results provide a spatially explicit view of ecological specialization of floodplain forest communities and expose the need for whole-basin hydrological integrity to protect the Amazon's tree diversity and its function., (© 2024. Objective: To describe the clinical outcomes and risk factors of death related to mental disorders in a cohort of Brazilian hospitalized patients with COVID-19., Methods: This retrospective cohort study utilized the Brazilian database SIVEP-Gripe to analyze patients aged ≥18 years who had been hospitalized with COVID-19 between 2020 and 2022. The exposure of interest were mental disorders (anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder), identified through self-reported fields. The primary outcome was in-hospital mortality. Covariates included demographic and clinical features. Descriptive statistics, t-tests, chi-square tests, and binary logistic regression were used to analyze the data., Results: A cohort of 2,124,285 patients was included in the analysis, with 23,246 individuals (1.1%) having self-reported mental disorders. Among these mental disorders, depression was the most prevalent (52.3%). The mortality rate of the patients with mental disorders was 30.8%. Analysis of risk factors for mortality revealed that age, gender, region, dyspnea, low oxygen saturation, and comorbidities were associated with an increased risk of death. Patients with schizophrenia had a higher mortality risk (aOR:1.68;95%CI:1.54-1.81)., Conclusions: Patients diagnosed with schizophrenia have a greater likelihood of COVID-19- related death than those without mental health conditions. Background and Objectives: We aimed to analyze the study designs, modeling approaches, and performance evaluation metrics in studies using machine learning techniques to develop clinical prediction models for children and adolescents with COVID-19., Methods: We searched four databases for articles published between 01/01/2020 and 10/25/2023, describing the development of multivariable prediction models using any machine learning technique for predicting several outcomes in children and adolescents who had COVID-19., Results: We included ten articles, six (60 % [95 % confidence interval (CI) 0.31 - 0.83]) were predictive diagnostic models and four (40% [95 % CI 0.170.69]) were prognostic models. All models were developed to predict a binary outcome (n= 10/10, 100 % [95 % CI 0.72-1]). The most frequently predicted outcome was disease detection (n=3/10, 30% [95 % CI 0.11-0.60]). The most commonly used machine learning models in the studies were tree-based (n=12/33, 36.3% [95 % CI 0.17-0.47]) and neural networks (n=9/27, 33.2% [95% CI 0.15-0.44])., Conclusion: Our review revealed that attention is required to address problems including small sample sizes, inconsistent reporting practices on data preparation, biases in data sources, lack of reporting metrics such as calibration and discrimination, hyperparameters and other aspects that allow reproducibility by other researchers and might improve the methodology., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest The funding organizations had no role in the design and conduct of the study; collection, management, analysis, and interpretation of the data; and preparation, review, or approval of the manuscript., (Copyright © 2024 Elsevier B.V. Background: Oseltamivir is a low-cost antiviral agent that could support or complement treatment of COVID-19. This study assessed whether oseltamivir is effective in reducing COVID-19-related mortality., Methods: This retrospective cohort study evaluated real-world data from a nationwide database of hospitalisation due to severe acute respiratory syndrome in Brazil. Propensity score matching was used to mimic a randomised controlled trial with 'oseltamivir' and 'no antivirals at all' as the intervention and control groups, respectively., Results: A total of 21 480 and 268 486 patients admitted between February 2020 and January 2023 were included in the intervention and control groups, respectively. After matching, the odds ratio (OR) for death was 0.901 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.873-0.930). The OR (95% CI) for death in patients who were admitted to the ICU, and on non-invasive or invasive ventilation was 0.868 (0.821-0.917), 0.935 (0.893-0.980), and 0.883 (0.814-0.958), respectively., Conclusions: Overall, the use of oseltamivir was associated with an attributable risk reduction of 2.50% (95% CI 1.77-3.29). Similar results were observed in patients who were admitted to the ICU, and on non-invasive or invasive ventilation. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant disruptions to everyday life and has had social, political, and financial consequences that will persist for years. Several initiatives with intensive use of technology were quickly developed in this scenario. However, technologies that enhance epidemiological surveillance in contexts with low testing capacity and healthcare resources are scarce. Therefore, this study aims to address this gap by developing a data science model that uses routinely generated healthcare encounter records to detect possible new outbreaks early in real-time., Methods: We defined an epidemiological indicator that is a proxy for suspected cases of COVID-19 using the health records of Emergency Care Unit (ECU) patients and text mining techniques. The open-field dataset comprises 2,760,862 medical records from nine ECUs, where each record has information about the patient's age, reported symptoms, and the time and date of admission. We also used a dataset where 1,026,804 cases of COVID-19 were officially confirmed. The records range from January 2020 to May 2022. Sample cross-correlation between two finite stochastic time series was used to evaluate the models., Results: For patients with age 18 years, we find time-lag () = 72 days and cross-correlation () ~ 0.82, = 25 days and ~ 0.93, and = 17 days and ~ 0.88 for the first, second, and third waves, respectively., Conclusions: In conclusion, the developed model can aid in the early detection of signs of possible new COVID-19 outbreaks, weeks before traditional surveillance systems, thereby anticipating in initiating preventive and control actions in public health with a higher likelihood of success., (© 2024. The concentration of atmospheric CO 2 and temperature are pivotal components of ecosystem productivity, carbon balance, and food security. In this study, we investigated the impacts of a warmer climate (+2 °C above ambient temperature) and an atmosphere enriched with CO 2 (600 ppm) on gas exchange, antioxidant enzymatic system, growth, nutritive value, and digestibility of a well-watered, managed pasture of Megathyrsus maximus, a tropical C 4 forage grass, under field conditions. Elevated [CO 2 ] (eC) improved photosynthesis and reduced stomatal conductance, resulting in increased water use efficiency and plant C content. Under eC, stem biomass production increased without a corresponding increase in leaf biomass, leading to a smaller leaf/stem ratio. Additionally, eC had negative impacts on forage nutritive value and digestibility. Elevated temperature (eT) increased photosynthetic gains, as well as stem and leaf biomass production. However, it reduced P and K concentration, forage nutritive value, and digestibility. Under the combined conditions of eC and eT (eCeT), eT completely offset the effects of eC on the leaf/stem ratio. However, eT intensified the effects of eC on photosynthesis, leaf C concentration, biomass accumulation, and nutritive value. This resulted in a forage with 12% more acid detergent fiber content and 28% more lignin. Additionally, there was a decrease of 19% in crude protein leading to a 15% decrease in forage digestibility. These changes could potentially affect animal feeding efficiency and feedback climate change, as ruminants may experience an amplification in methane emissions. Trees structure the Earth's most biodiverse ecosystem, tropical forests. The vast number of tree species presents a formidable challenge to understanding these forests, including their response to environmental change, as very little is known about most tropical tree species. A focus on the common species may circumvent this challenge. Here we investigate abundance patterns of common tree species using inventory data on 1,003,805 trees with trunk diameters of at least 10 cm across 1,568 locations 1-6 in closed-canopy, structurally intact old-growth tropical forests in Africa, Amazonia and Southeast Asia. We estimate that 2.2%, 2.2% and 2.3% of species comprise 50% of the tropical trees in these regions, respectively. Extrapolating across all closed-canopy tropical forests, we estimate that just 1,053 species comprise half of Earth's 800 billion tropical trees with trunk diameters of at least 10 cm. Despite differing biogeographic, climatic and anthropogenic histories 7 , we find notably consistent patterns of common species and species abundance distributions across the continents. This suggests that fundamental mechanisms of tree community assembly may apply to all tropical forests. Resampling analyses show that the most common species are likely to belong to a manageable list of known species, enabling targeted efforts to understand their ecology. Background and Objectives: Understanding how severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) interacts with other respiratory viruses is crucial for developing effective public health strategies in the postpandemic era. This study aimed to compare the outcomes of SARS-CoV-2 and seasonal viruses in children and adolescents hospitalized with severe acute respiratory infection (SARI)., Methods: This population-based, retrospective cohort study included children and adolescents hospitalized with SARI from February 2020 to February 2023 in Brazil. The main exposure of interest was viral etiology. The primary outcome was in-hospital mortality. Competing risk analysis was used to account for time dependency and competing events., Results: A total of 235 829 patients had available results of the viral tests, with SARS-CoV-2 predominance. According to the competing-risk survival analysis, the estimated probability of a fatal outcome at 30 days of hospitalization according to the viral strain was 6.5%, 3.4%, 2.9%, 2.3%, 2.1%, and 1.8%, for SARS-CoV-2, coinfection, adenovirus, influenza, other viruses, and respiratory syncytial virus, respectively. Individuals with a positive test for SARS-CoV-2 had hazard of death 3 times higher than subjects with a negative test (hazard ratio, 3.3; 95% confidence interval, 3.1-3.5). African Americans have a significantly higher risk of developing chronic kidney disease, especially focal segmental glomerulosclerosis -, than European Americans. Two coding variants (G1 and G2) in the APOL1 gene play a major role in this disparity. While 13% of African Americans carry the high-risk recessive genotypes, only a fraction of these individuals develops FSGS or kidney failure, indicating the involvement of additional disease modifiers. Here, we show that the presence of the APOL1 p.N264K missense variant, when co-inherited with the G2 APOL1 risk allele, substantially reduces the penetrance of the G1G2 and G2G2 high-risk genotypes by rendering these genotypes low-risk. These results align with prior functional evidence showing that the p.N264K variant reduces the toxicity of the APOL1 high-risk alleles. These findings have important implications for our understanding of the mechanisms of APOL1-associated nephropathy, as well as for the clinical management of individuals with high-risk genotypes that include the G2 allele., (© 2023. Using 2.046 botanically-inventoried tree plots across the largest tropical forest on Earth, we mapped tree species-diversity and tree species-richness at 0.1-degree resolution, and investigated drivers for diversity and richness. Using only location, stratified by forest type, as predictor, our spatial model, to the best of our knowledge, provides the most accurate map of tree diversity in Amazonia to date, explaining approximately 70% of the tree diversity and species-richness. Large soil-forest combinations determine a significant percentage of the variation in tree species-richness and tree alpha-diversity in Amazonian forest-plots. We suggest that the size and fragmentation of these systems drive their large-scale diversity patterns and hence local diversity. A model not using location but cumulative water deficit, tree density, and temperature seasonality explains 47% of the tree species-richness in the terra-firme forest in Amazonia. Over large areas across Amazonia, residuals of this relationship are small and poorly spatially structured, suggesting that much of the residual variation may be local. The Guyana Shield area has consistently negative residuals, showing that this area has lower tree species-richness than expected by our models. Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the diagnostic accuracy of dynamic and static ultrasound (DSUS) in detecting vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) and renal scarring in a cohort of children with neurogenic bladder (NB)., Materials and Methods: A retrospective, longitudinal, observational study was conducted using the Reporting Diagnostic Accuracy Studies guideline. The DSUS (index test) data were compared with voiding cystourethrography (VCUG) and renal scintigraphy 99mTc-dimercaptosuccinic (reference tests). Overall performance for predicting VUR and renal scarring was assessed using renal pelvic diameter (RPD)/distal ureteral diameter and renal parenchymal thinning on DSUS, respectively., Results: A total of 107 patients (66 girls, median age 9.6 years) participated. Seventeen patients (15.9%) presented VUR, eight bilateral. For overall reflux grade, the AUC was 0.624 for RPD and 0.630 for distal ureteral diameter. The diagnostic performance for detecting high-grade VUR was slightly better for DSUS parameters. The AUC was 0.666 for RPD and 0.691 for distal ureteral diameter. The cut-offs of 5 mm for RPD and 6.5 mm for distal ureteral diameter presented the best diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) to identify high-grade VUR. The increase of RPD during detrusor contractions showed an accuracy of 89.2%. The thinness of renal parenchyma presented an accuracy of 88% for renal scarring., Conclusion: DSUS predicts VUR and renal scarring in children with NB with fair to good accuracy, and all measurements exhibited a high negative predictive value (NPV).
