Abstract

The high power test model of biperiodic L-support disk-and- washer was fabricated. Among some trouble in the fabrication, the main one was a vacuum leak in a brazing process. The repair test of the leak showed a good result; four units were recovered out of five leak units (recover rate 80%). While an accelerating mode frequency was tuned at an operating frequency of 2857 MHz by squeezing method, a coupling mode frequency of 2847MHz and the 3.4% field flatness (peak to peak ratio) were achieved., Comment: 3 pages Linac2000 Poster TUA22 (5 figures available from author)

Abstract

Purpose: Stringent variant interpretation guidelines can lead to high rates of variants of uncertain significance (VUS) for genetically heterogeneous disease like long QT syndrome (LQTS) and Brugada syndrome (BrS). Quantitative and disease-specific customization of American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics/Association for Molecular Pathology (ACMG/AMP) guidelines can address this false negative rate. Methods: We compared rare variant frequencies from 1847 LQTS (KCNQ1/KCNH2/SCN5A) and 3335 BrS (SCN5A) cases from the International LQTS/BrS Genetics Consortia to population-specific gnomAD data and developed disease-specific criteria for ACMG/AMP evidence classes—rarity (PM2/BS1 rules) and case enrichment of individual (PS4) and domain-specific (PM1) variants. Results: Rare SCN5A variant prevalence differed between European (20.8%) and Japanese (8.9%) BrS patients (p = 5.7 × 10−18) and diagnosis with spontaneous (28.7%) versus induced (15.8%) Brugada type 1 electrocardiogram (ECG) (p = 1.3 × 10−13). Ion channel transmembrane regions and specific N-terminus (KCNH2) and C-terminus (KCNQ1/KCNH2) domains were characterized by high enrichment of case variants and >95% probability of pathogenicity. Applying the customized rules, 17.4% of European BrS and 74.8% of European LQTS cases had (likely) pathogenic variants, compared with estimated diagnostic yields (case excess over gnomAD) of 19.2%/82.1%, reducing VUS prevalence to close to background rare variant frequency. Conclusion: Large case–control data sets enable quantitative implementation of ACMG/AMP guidelines and increased sensitivity for inherited arrhythmia genetic testing.

Abstract

A report on electrochemistry of 16 different water-soluble porphyrins of the type [(TMpyP)M(super II)](super 4+)(X-)4 or [(TMpyP)M(super III)Cl](super 4+)(Cl(super -))4 in nonaqueous media is presented where TMpyP is the dianion of the meso-tetrakis(N-methylpyridiniumyl)porphyrin and X= Cl(super -) or BPh4(super -). The effect of the metal ion and porphyrin counterion (X-) on the electrochemical properties of the TMpyP complexes is examined.

Abstract

A superconducting fault current limiting device for electric power systems has been investigated to find out its feasibility. Non-inductive reactor type fault current limiter has been constructed using metal superconductor. Two bifilar wound solenoids were connected in antiparallel or antiseries. On each connection, the fault current limiting test was performed by short-circuiting a resistive load suddenly. The recovery (normal-to-superconductive state transition) time after the current limiting mode has been studied using small scale model of fault current limiter for the low voltage distribution line. The results reveal that the current limiter could be operated under repetitive fault current accident which was removed within a few cycle of the limiting mode. The recovery time is a function of the dissipated energy under current limiting mode. Test results are presented.

Abstract

A method of calibrating the germicidal irradiance (254 nm) based on the silicon photodiode self-calibration technique has been developed. The absolute responsivity of silicon photodiodes at 254 nm was determined by the self-calibration technique at 633 nm combined with the relative spectral responsivity measurement in the 220-780-nm region based on a standard thermal detector. By using pure 254-nm radiation, the responsivity at 254 nm was transferred to a working standard detector with a sensitivity of only approximately 254 nm. The irradiance values measured by this detector are compared with those measured with conventional methods; for one method we used an absolutely calibrated thermal detector; for another method we used a monochromator with a spectral irradiance standard. They agreed to within a 3% difference.

Abstract

A hybrid system accomplishing cooperativity between an organophotoredox acridinium catalyst and a chiral chromiumcomplex catalyst was developed, enabling the unprecedented exploitation of unactivated hydrocarbon alkenes as precursors to chiral allylchromium nucleophiles for the asymmetric allylation of aldehydes. The reaction proceeded under visible light irradiation at room temperature and with high functional group tolerance, affording the corresponding homoallylic alcohols with up to >20/1 diastereomeric ratio and 99% ee. The addition of Mg(ClO4)2 elicited profound enhancement of both reactivity and enantioselectivity.

Abstract

33rd European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 534-536, We have investigated the mechanical strength of monocrystalline silicon wafers to improve the yield of photovoltaic (PV) cell fabrication process. In slicing monocrystalline silicon bricks, diamond abrasives fixed on a wire surface scratch front and backside surfaces of wafers more seriously than wafer edges. Therefore, damages and defects not at edges but on both surfaces cause a serious concern for lowering the mechanical strength. We prepared 200 and 120 μm thick wafers by cutting silicon bricks with a multi-wire saw, in which two kinds of diamond wires, the one with the abrasive-size ranging from 8 to 16 μm in diameter and the other from 6 to 12 μm were equipped. On the wire surface, the dispersion of 6 to 12 μm abrasives was improved to be larger compared with that of 8 to 16 μm abrasives. We report that the improved wire is essential to have wafers with higher mechanical strength and the reason why the wire improvement results in the strength increase.
