The physic nut is an oilseed plant that has stood out as an alternative source for biodiesel. However, using it in this way requires determining the edaphoclimatic conditions and adequate fertilization to guarantee maximum productivity. This study objectived to evaluate and establish adequate rates of Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K) to maximize the growth and productivity of physic nut in two edaphoclimatic conditions. Two experiments were performed over two consecutive years, one under Quartzarenic Neosol in the municipality of Diamantina and the other under Red-Yellow Latosol in the municipality of Governador Valadares. The treatments comprised rates of N: 0, 25, 50, 100 kg ha−1; P: 0, 35, 70, 140 kg ha−1; and K: 0, 40, 80, 160 kg ha−1. Plant growth was evaluated every 30 days until flowering. Seed and oil productivity was also assessed, with one harvest in Diamantina and two harvests in Governador Valadares. The edaphoclimatic condition of Governador Valadares was a determining factor in providing greater growth and productivity of the physic nut when compared to that of Diamantina. The application of N rates was unnecessary for the growth and productivity of the physic nut in Diamantina. Thus, phosphate fertilization was unnecessary in Governador Valadares and potassium fertilization was unnecessary for both regions. In Diamantina, 84 kg ha−1 and 87 kg ha−1 of P is recommended for growth and maximum productivity, respectively. The adulteration of camellia seed oil with different processes will seriously violate the rights and interests of consumers. The accurate identification of camellia seed oil processes is of great significance to reduce such illegal activities. However, the fatty acid composition of camellia seed oil is complex and the content varies greatly in the same process, while the difference is small in different processes. This multivariate data are easy to lead to the fuzzy characteristics of camellia seed oil, which increases the difficulty of identifying camellia seed oil quality. To solve these problems, we propose a multi-scale interactive attention network (MIANet) for the accurate identification of camellia seed oil. Firstly, a one-dimensional multi-scale convolutional feature extraction method (OMCM) was proposed, which was used to reduce the difference from multivariate fuzzy features and better solve the problem of fuzzy features of camellia seed oil fatty acids with the same process. Secondly, the interactive attention mechanism (IA) was proposed to enhance the deep characteristics of multivariate fatty acids from the fusion of two dimensions, so that the model paid more attention to the subtle differences between different processes, and effectively solved the problem of fuzzy fatty acid characteristics of camellia seed oil in different processes. Finally, in order to verify the effectiveness of MIANet, MIANet is compared with classical machine learning methods such as SVM, KNN, LR, LDA, QDA, classical deep learning method AlexNet, and the most advanced deep learning methods such as DMCNN and HCA-MFFNet. The accuracy of MIANet reached 94.10%, which was better than the eight methods. The study focuses on developing a novel perilla seed oil (PeO)‐based polyunsaturated fatty acid–rich margarine fat analogue using enzymatic interesterification. PeO is a rich source of omega‐3 fatty acids, however, has limited application due to susceptibility to oxidative and thermal degradation. Moreover, low consumption of omega‐3 fatty acids in modern diets serves as a major cause for increased prevalence of cardiovascular diseases. The stability of such oils can be improved by techniques like blending and interesterification. However, blending lacks uniformity, which can be overcome by interesterification. The process conditions, namely, enzyme load, temperature, substrate molar ratio, and reaction time, were systematically optimized using response surface methodology. The optimized interesterified fat was characterized for fatty acid and triacylglyceride (TAG) composition. The physicochemical and functional properties, along with oxidative stability, were also evaluated to determine its overall quality. The structured lipid with zero trans and low saturated fat was developed with 50:50 substrate molar ratio of PeO and palm stearin at 54°C within 5.4 h at 6.2% w/w concentration of TLIM enzyme. It exhibited 23.8% degree of interesterification, 435.5 g hardness, and 33°C slip melting point. The TAG profile of the resulting fat was significantly modified with increased triunsaturated TAGs like LnLnLn and LnLnL but reduced trisaturated TAGs like PPP. The interesterification process lowered tocopherol composition by 3%. The acid, peroxide, IP (Induction Period), and p‐anisidine values of PeO significantly enhanced. The thermal behavior of the developed fat was also modified. The textural properties of margarine developed from optimized fat were comparable to commercial margarine, revealing the application of PeO in healthy margarine formulation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Oilseed plants of the Brassicaceae plant family are cultivated for food, feed and industrial purposes on large-scale in Europe. This review gives an overview of current market-oriented applications of new genomic techniques (NGTs) in relevant Brassicaceae oilseed crops based on a literature survey. In this respect, changes in oil quality, yield, growth and resistance to biotic and abiotic stress are under development in oilseed rape (Brassica napus), camelina (Camelina sativa), and pennycress (Thlaspi arvense). Main findings: Environmental risk scenarios starting with hazard identification are developed for specific NGT applications in Brassicaceae oilseed crops with either a changed oil composition or with fitness-related traits. In case of a changed oil composition, an increase or decrease of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) may lead to risks for health and survival of pollinators. Regarding fitness-related traits, other risks were identified, i.e. an increased spread and persistence of NGT plants. Furthermore, there are indications for potential disturbance of interactions with the environment, involving signalling pathways and reaction to stress conditions. Conclusion: It is shown that for environmental risk scenarios of the technological specificities of NGTs, the plants' biology and the scale of releases have to be considered in combination. Therefore, the release of NGT plants into the environment for agricultural purposes will, also in future, require risk assessment and monitoring of individual traits as well as of combinatorial and long-term cumulative effects. In addition, risk management should develop concepts and measures to control and potentially limit the scale of releases. The physicochemical composition of the oil extracted from three different melon seed varieties (named Uzbek-Russian, Soski, and Soski Green), which were collected from three various geographical parts of Iran (north, northeast, and center), was determined in 2021 and 2022. The macronutrient components, fatty acid profile, sterol compounds, phenolic compounds, tocopherols, and oxidative stability of the melon seed oils were determined. The oil content of melon seeds ranged from 43.3% to 47.3%. Linoleic (54.48% to 60.35%), oleic (24.35% to 28.03%), and palmitic acids (10.15% to 12.65%) were the predominant fatty acids. No significant differences were observed between the three cultivars and between the 2 years of the study in terms of macronutrient components and fatty acid profiles (p > 0.05). Twelve different phenolic compounds were identified, of which caffeic acid was the major compound, ranging from 39.74% ± 1.70% (Soski Green) to 63.45% ± 1.25% (Uzbek-Russian). The amounts of caffeic acid and oxidative stability of Uzbek‐Russian were significantly higher than those in the two other cultivars. β‐Sitosterol (approximately 60%) and γ‐tocopherol (71.6 to 84.07 mg/100 g) were the major sterol and tocopherol compounds, respectively. The results indicated that the physical and chemical specifications of the three investigated melon seed oils were stable for two consecutive years. Key Clinical Message: The poppy seed test is a valuable, cost‐effective, and sensitive initial diagnostic investigation to identify the presence of colovesical fistula, particularly for clinicians in remote or rural areas with lack of access to specialist radiologic, endoscopic, surgical, or urological support. The poppy seed test therefore may act as a bridge toward the commencement of appropriate referral pathways for the management of colovesical fistula. The diagnosis of colovesical fistula is resource intensive, often requiring a combination of radiological investigation and endoscopy. The poppy seed test is a non‐invasive and cost‐effective alternative that has been demonstrated to identify presence of colovesical fistula with high sensitivity. There is however a noticeable paucity of recommendations for the poppy seed test in the diagnostic approach to colovesical fistula due to significant advancements in alternative radiologic and endoscopic technologies. Despite this, in resource‐challenged areas with lack of specialist support, the poppy seed test is a cost‐effective, accessible and safe test that can be performed to confirm the presence of colovesical fistula. We report a case of a 79‐year‐old man with a past history of colorectal cancer managed surgically with adjuvant chemoradiotherapy who develops noisy micturition, pneumaturia, and fecaluria 22 years after treatment. Given the suspicion of colovesical fistula, computed tomography imaging and cystoscopy were performed which was unable to demonstrate an overt fistula. The poppy seed test was utilized and demonstrated presence of poppy seeds in the urine, confirming the presence of a fistula. The patient was referred to a specialist surgical center for consideration of further management. The poppy seed test is a valuable initial diagnostic investigation for clinicians in remote or rural areas with lack of access to specialist radiologic, endoscopic, surgical, or urological support in confirming the presence of a colovesical fistula and initiating referral pathways for the management of this condition. The weevil, Sitophilus zeamais Motschulsky (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) is the most important pest of stored maize worldwide. Experiments were carried out to evaluate the efficacy of Allophylus africanus P. Beauv (Sapindaceae) leaf extracts and Azadirachta indica A. Juss (Meliaceae) seed oil against S. zeamais under farmer storage conditions at the concentrations of 2.5, 5, 7.5, and 10 g/kg of maize. Each concentration is divided into two sets and wrapped in cotton then placed at two different places in 1 kg bag of maize. Maize bags were placed in 5 L containers and 40 adult insects were released inside and covered with a muslin cloth. Adult mortality, progeny inhibition and damage reduction were assessed. The obtained results showed that these tested extracts caused significant mortality to S. zeamais adults. Mortality % recorded 3.33%, 00.00%, 00.00% and 5.88% with neem oil, the methanol, acetone, and hexane extract of A. africanus at the concentration of 10 g/kg after one day post-infestation. Within 12 days of exposure, at the lowest concentration (2.5 g/kg), neem oil, methanol, acetone, and hexane extract caused 76.92%, 100%, 100% and 100% mortality, respectively. At the concentration of 10 g/kg, all the tested extracts completely inhibited F1 progeny production, respectively. Moreover, these extracts reduced the grain damage and weight losses caused by weevils on maize. Considering the wide availability of A. africanus and neem trees, the application of extracts from both plants could be recommended as phytopesticides against maize weevils under storage conditions. Hemp seed oil (HSO) is an edible oil low in saturated fat and rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) such as omega‐6 and omega‐3 fatty acids. When they are in contact with oxygen in the air, PUFAs are easily oxidized even at room temperature due to the multiple double bonds that facilitate the formation of reactive radicals when exposed to air. This study aimed to evaluate the oxidation of HSO under different conditions and to examine the encapsulation of HSO with zein as a new method to prevent its oxidation. Peak time of weight gain monitored with thermogravimetric analysis and oxidation products detected with high‐performance liquid chromatography were used to determine the oxidation of fatty acids and HSO. It was found that the thermal decomposition of fatty acids prevailed over autoxidation beyond a certain temperature (at about 100–140°C). Encapsulating HSO into zein microcapsules, which isolates oil droplets from contact with oxygen in the air, effectively prevented its oxidation. The induction period of HSO oxidation was delayed by 7.3–9.3 times with the zein‐to‐HSO ratio of 0.5–1.25. In contrast, 0.5% (w/w) α‐tocopherol could prolong the induction period up to 2.5 times indicating that the encapsulation method was much more effective than α‐tocopherol in preventing the oxidation of HSO. This method may also be applied for other oils susceptible to oxidation such as omega‐3 oils. Practical Application: This research compares the effects of three schemes that stabilize hemp seed oil from oxidation: (1) lowering temperature to slow down the oxidation reaction, (2) adding antioxidant to deactivate the initiation of oxidation reaction, and (3) encapsulating oil droplets into protein microcapsules to keep the oil from contact with oxygen. The experimental result showed the encapsulation of oils in protein microcapsules is more effective than the other two. Summary: The current study was undertaken to investigate the use of tomato seed oil (TSO) and defatted tomato seed meal (DTSM) individually and in combination for muffin preparation in an effort to utilise the fruit waste generated during food processing and harness its nutritional potential. The incorporation of DTSM and TSO at 0–25% led to a significant increase in the baking yield and weight of muffins, with a more pronounced effect in the case of DTSM‐incorporated muffins. Based on organoleptic evaluation, muffins with incorporation of DTSM and TSO at 20% and 15%, respectively, were most acceptable. Therefore, muffins (DTSM 20 + TSO 15) were prepared with DTSM and TSO replacement at 20% and 15%, respectively. The combined effect of DTSM and TSO resulted in a dietary fibre increase of 61.57% as compared to the control (wheat flour and margarine‐based muffins). As per texture profile analysis, the addition of DTSM led to a significant decrease in hardness, whereas a rise was noted for TSO‐incorporated muffins. Storage studies of muffins for 7 days in low‐density polyethylene pouches indicated no significant degradation in quality parameters. Background Methods Results Conclusions The beneficial effects of n‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) in reducing high blood triglyceride (TG) levels have been well demonstrated. This study aimed to investigate the effect of chia seeds on blood TG and its associated cardiometabolic factors in hypertriglyceridaemic individuals.This three‐group randomised controlled trial compared the effects of a low‐calorie diet (n = 22), a low‐calorie diet with chia seeds (30 g/day, n = 22) or a low‐calorie diet with concentrated fish oil (1.8 g/day of n‐3 long‐chain PUFAs, n = 22) in patients with hypertriglyceridaemia. Anthropometrics, fasting blood lipids, proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9, insulin, adiponectin, leptin and interleukin‐6 levels were measured.After 8 weeks, the mean reduction in weight exhibited by the three groups was not statistically different (2.0, 2.7 and 2.8 kg, respectively, for the control, fish oil and chia seed groups). The plasma TG decreased in both the chia seed and fish oil groups in comparison to the control group (p = 0.001). However, no significant difference was observed between the chia seed and fish oil groups (change from baseline mean: 145.2 and 136.7 mg/dL for the chia seed and fish oil groups, respectively). The consumption of chia seeds was associated with a reduction in diastolic blood pressure (change from baseline mean: 8.4 mmHg) compared to the other two groups. No significant alterations were observed in the other blood biochemical factors between the three groups.In people with moderate hypertriglyceridaemia, a low‐calorie diet with 30 g of chia seeds compared to fish oil supplements containing 1.8 g of long‐chain PUFAs has a similar effect on reducing plasma TG levels, whereas it has a higher blood pressure–lowering effect. The conventional use of polyurethane in various applications is hindered by significant challenges, such as toxicity concerns, moisture sensitivity, and environmental impact. In response, there has been a notable surge in research focusing on bio-based alternatives, particularly non-isocyanate polyurethanes (NIPUs), aligning with sustainable development objectives. NIPUs offer a promising solution by eliminating the need for isocyanates, employing cyclic carbonates and diamines instead. Out of various sources available, non-traditional vegetable oils present a viable starting material for cyclic carbonate synthesis due to their availability, renewability, and affordability. However, despite the growing interest in NIPUs, there remains a scarcity of literature on the utilization of non-traditional oils for their development. This short review aims to fill this gap by providing an overview of bio-based NIPUs synthesized from non-traditional vegetable oils such as jatropha oil, castor oil, lignin oil, linseed oil, and rubber seed oil. The review covers the synthesis methods of NIPUs via polyaddition reactions of carbonates and amines, detailing properties, advantages, and applications of each oil-based NIPU. Furthermore, by identifying research gaps and proposing potential solutions, this paper aims to encourage researchers to consider non-traditional oils for NIPU synthesis, facilitating significant advancements in the field. Increasing consumers demand for natural and additive -free foods and high volumes of food industry wastes, are stimulating the use of these resources in other food industries. Tomato pomace is one of the food factory wastes is the resulting by -product of tomato paste and sauce factories. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect extraction method and microwave pretreatment of tomato seeds on the physicochemical characteristics of their extracted oil. The seeds were treated with microwaves using various power levels (0, 200 and 500 W) and different process times (0, 1, 3 and 5 min) and their oil was extracted by Soxhlet and press methods. Fatty acids composition of oils was determined by gas chromatography. Some physicochemical characteristics of extracted seed oil including oil yield, viscosity, acid value, peroxide value, and color index (L, b, a values) were evaluated. Data was analyzed with factorial treatment structure in a Completely Randomized Design in three replications. The experimental data was modeled by artificial neural network with 3 inputs (extraction method, microwave power and pretreatment time) and 7 outputs (oil yield, acid value, peroxide value, viscosity, L value, b value and a value). The results of artificial neural network modeling showed that the network with a 3 - 8 -7 structure and using the Hyperbolic tangent activation function can predict the oil yield, acid value, peroxide value, viscosity, L value, b value and a value of tomato seed oil with high correlation coefficient and low error. Based on the results of the sensitivity analysis, the extraction method compared to the power and time of microwave assisted pretreatment of seeds was determined as the main factor. Identifying and extracting of new edible oil sources from the food waste such as tomato seeds and optimizing the extraction conditions is a big step forward in edible oil preparing. The effect of the extraction method and microwave pretreatment of tomato seeds on the fatty acids profile of oil samples and their chemical characteristics were evaluated. The seeds were treated with microwaves using various power levels (0, 200 and 500 W) and different process times (0, 1, 3 and 5 min) and their oil was extracted by Soxhlet and press methods. Fatty acids composition of oils was determined by gas chromatography. Fatty acid properties of the oil samples were evaluated by the saturated fatty acids (SFA), monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and oxidative stability (Se Index) indexes. Data was analyzed with factorial treatment structure in a Completely Randomized Design in three replications. The dominant fatty acids in the profile of oil samples were linoleic acid (51.73 %), oleic acid (25.85 %), and palmitic acid (12.84 %). The mean peroxide and acid values of seed oil obtained by press and Soxhlet methods were 0.58 and 2.2 milliequivalents of oxygen per kilogram of oil and 0.1 and 0.14 milligrams of potassium hydroxide per gram of oil, respectively. The increase of the microwave powers (from 200 to 500 W) and process times (from 0 to 5 min) of tomato seeds in both Soxhlet and press extraction methods increased the peroxide value, acid value and SFA index and decreased PUFA and Se index of the tomato seeds oil (p<0.05). The quality of the tomato seed extracted oil by two methods of pressing and Soxhlet and following microwave pretreatment seeds (500 W for 5 min) in terms of peroxide value and acid value was found to be in the standard range recommended. Canola (Brassica napus L.) is an important oilseed crop that provides essential vegetable oil but faces significant competition from weeds that are influenced by various agronomic practices and environmental conditions. This study examines the complex interactions between canola stand density and weed intensity over three growing seasons, identifying a total of 27 weed species. It is important to establish a connection between the density of winter canola stands, the intensity of weeding and the response of individual weed species in real conditions. The case study was executed on plots located in the Přerov district (Olomouc region, Czech Republic). The assessment was carried out during two periods—autumn in October and spring in April. Canola plants (plant density) were counted in each evaluated area, weed species were identified, and the number of plants for each weed species was determined. Half of the plots were covered with foil before herbicide application to prevent these areas from being treated with herbicides. We used redundancy analysis (RDA) to evaluate the relationships between canola density and weed dynamics, both with and without herbicide treatment. The results show the ability of canola to compete with weeds; however, that is factored by the density of the canola stand. In dense stands (over 60 plants/m²), canola is able to suppress Galium aparine L., Geranium pusillum L., Lamium purpureum L., Papaver rhoeas L. and Chamomilla suaveolens (Pursh) Rydb. Nevertheless, there are weed species that grow well even in dense canola stands (Echinochloa crus-galli (L.) P. Beauv., Phragmites australis (Cav.) Steud., Tripleurospermum inodorum (L.) Sch. Bip. and Triticum aestivum L.). These findings highlight the potential for using canola stand density as a strategic component of integrated weed management to reduce herbicide reliance and address the growing challenge of herbicide-resistant weed populations. This research contributes significantly to our understanding of the dynamics of weed competition in canola systems and informs sustainable agricultural practices for improved crop yield and environmental stewardship. Plant protein ingredients (isolates, concentrates) are increasingly used for food formulation due to their low environmental impact compared to animal‐based proteins. A specific application is food emulsions, of which the physical and oxidative stability need to be supported. The emulsifying properties of diverse plant proteins have already been largely covered in literature, whereas only in a few studies the chemical stability of such emulsions was addressed, especially regarding lipid oxidation. In the few examples available mostly the effects caused by proteins were elaborated, whereas those caused by non‐protein components have hardly been considered. Yet, plant protein ingredients are characterized by high compositional complexity, with notably a plethora of non‐protein components. Topics covered in this review, therefore, include the composition of various types of plant protein ingredients (i.e., legumes, oil seeds) in relation to the fractionation processes used, and the potential effects on lipid oxidation in emulsions. The composition varies greatly among species and depends on the harvest conditions (i.e., year, location), and genetics. In addition, fractionation processes may lead to the accumulation or dilution of components, and induce chemical changes. Both protein and non‐protein components can act as pro‐ or antioxidants contingent on their concentration and/or location in emulsions. Since the chemical composition of plant protein ingredients is often hardly reported, this makes a‐priori prediction of an overall effect difficult, if not impossible. Standardizing the fractionation process and the starting material, as well as in‐depth characterization of the resulting fractions, are highly recommended when aiming at rationally designing food emulsions. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of microwave-assisted and conventional extraction using ethanol, hexane, and petroleum ether as solvents, and to optimize the process for extracting oil from Moringa oleifera Lam. seeds, with a focus on improving food-grade oil production. Response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to enhance the extraction process of the oil. Central composite rotational design (CCRD) was used to analyze the impact of solid–liquid ratio (x1), power (x2), and temperature (x3) on oil yield. The optimization identified the optimal conditions as a solid/liquid ratio of 1:38, power of 175 W, and temperature of 50 °C, achieving a 42% oil yield. Notably, the microwave-assisted extraction reduced the processing time from 8 h (using conventional Soxhlet extraction) to just 1 h. Conventional extraction with hexane and petroleum ether was also performed for comparison, resulting in similar oil content and fatty acid profiles, predominantly, oleic acid. FTIR analysis confirmed that the microwave-extracted oil contained fatty acids and had similar characteristics to the conventionally extracted oil. Thus, the use of ethanol as a green solvent in the microwave has shown significant improvement in terms of time and energy savings compared to the Soxhlet method with toxic solvents. This study concludes that microwave-assisted extraction with ethanol provides a more energy efficient, environmentally friendly, and time-saving alternative for food-grade oil production, aligning with advancements in food engineering and production. This study explores the potential valorization of blackberry seed oil cake (BBSOC), a by-product of cold-pressed blackberry seed oil (Rubus fruticosus L.), as a nutritionally valuable material with aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) adsorption properties. The chemical and mineral composition, polyphenols, and antioxidant activity of BBSOC flour were assessed. BBSOC was found to be a significant source of fiber (62.09% dry weight) and essential minerals such as Fe (123.48 mg/kg), Mg (1281.40 mg/kg), K (3087.61 mg/kg), and Ca (1568.41 mg/kg). The high polyphenol content, especially ellagic acid, highlighted its biologically active potential. Moreover, BBSOC demonstrated effective biosorption of AFB1 under in vitro conditions at 37 °C, with adsorption efficiencies of 85.36% and 87.01% at pH 3 and 7, respectively. Characterization techniques including SEM, FTIR analysis, Boehm titration, and pH zero charge determination confirmed its AFB1 adsorbing properties. This valorization process reintroduces a secondary product into the food chain, supporting the circular economy and zero-waste concepts. Hemp seed oil cake, a by-product of hemp seed oil extraction, is characterized by its high protein content and bioactive components, making it a valuable resource for the development of functional products through enzymatic hydrolysis. Hemp seed oil itself is renowned for its rich content of essential fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants, contributing to its widespread use in health and wellness products. Consequently, the residual cake presents significant potential for the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries as a source of high-quality protein ingredients. The optimization of enzymatic hydrolysis conditions is crucial for maximizing the efficiency and quality of the resulting protein hydrolysates. This study aims to optimize the hydrolysis process of hemp seed oil cake with bromelain, focusing on three key factors: enzyme concentration (E/S ratio), temperature, and time, to achieve hydrolysates with superior antioxidant activity. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was applied using a Box–Behnken design to model and optimize the hydrolysis conditions. The experimental design involved three levels for each factor: 1%, 2%, and 3% for bromelain concentration; 20 °C, 30 °C, and 40 °C for temperature; and 60, 120, and 180 min for hydrolysis duration, resulting in 21 experimental runs. The antioxidant activity was assessed via DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging assays (%RSA), and the derived regression models were statistically analyzed and validated. The findings indicate that the optimal conditions for obtaining protein hydrolysates with the highest antioxidant activity are a bromelain concentration of 3.0%, a temperature of 40 °C, and a hydrolysis time of 60 min. Camelina (Camelina sativa) elite germplasm C17-833 was developed at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Saskatoon Research and Development Centre. It was developed through hybridization of camelina cultivar AAC 10CS0048 and F4 line 11CS0231-24-10 and subsequent pedigree selection. C17-833 yields significantly higher (114%) than the check cultivar AAC 10CS0048. It also has significantly higher seed oil content (42.6% vs. 41.9%) and significantly larger seeds (126%). C17-833 has very good resistance to downy mildew disease caused by Hyalonospora camelinae and is adapted to all soil zones of the Canadian Prairies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This study assesses postreplanting oil palm farming risks, analyzes seed procurement parameters, investigates seed institutions' performance factors and develops a framework for improved sustainability. Design/methodology/approach: Incorporating data from 219 smallholder farmers in designated replanting areas, our study comprehensively evaluates seed supply performance, examining the roles of stakeholders and identifying potential risks in seed management. We assess these risks using the Risk Priority Number (RPN) methodology and Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) techniques. Findings: The results show that the timing and quantity of oil palm seed supply have a relatively small impact on postreplanting failure risk. To mitigate this risk, focus on monitoring seed purity using high-quality Tenera oil palm-type seeds and early detection technology. Encourage seed-producing cooperatives to become legal seed producers for an inclusive system and consider smallholders' variety preferences. Originality/value: This study's significance lies in its comprehensive assessment of the risks associated with oil palm replanting on smallholder plantations, detailed analysis of critical parameters in seed procurement, investigation into the performance of palm oil seed institutions across various dimensions and development of a strategic framework to strengthen inclusive seed institutions for sustainable oil palm farming. Pomegranate seed oil (PSO) is highly valued in the functional food industry due to its rich fatty acid content and associated health benefits. However, its high degree of unsaturation makes it susceptible to rapid degradation when exposed to oxygen and light. This study investigates the encapsulation of PSO at 15% w/w using different blends of gum Arabic (GA) and maltodextrin (MD) (1:0, 0:1, 1:1, 3:1, and 1:3) to determine optimal formulations for enhanced stability and functional quality. Characterization of the encapsulated PSO powders showed distinct particle morphologies, including flake‐like shapes and textures ranging from smooth to wrinkled and porous. The Fourier transform infrared (FT‐IR) spectra indicated shifts in functional groups from 2973.70 to 408.84 cm−1, revealing the presence of aliphatic, amine, aromatic, carboxylic acid, and hydroxyl groups. Although no single formulation achieved all desired outcomes, the GA:MD ratios of 1:0 and 1:1 were superior in enhancing color properties (yellowness and chroma), techno‐functional attributes (bulk density and solubility), and in preserving essential fatty acids, including stearic, cis‐oleic, α‐linolenic, arachidic, γ‐linolenic, linoleic, and punicic acids. Additionally, GA:MD (3:1) powders exhibited superior ferric‐reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and 2,2‐diphenyl‐1‐picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activities (RSA). In conclusion, formulations using solely GA or GA:MD ratios of 1:1 and 3:1 effectively preserve bioactive content in PSO, enhancing its antioxidant capacity. Background: This study aimed to investigate the antiparasitic and anti-inflammatory potential of pumpkin seed oil in mice infected with Trichinella spiralis by demonstrating its impact on MMP-9 expression and pathogenesis during the intestinal and muscular phases. Results: In this study, 100 mice were divided into five groups: an infected group, a pumpkin seed oil-treated group (1.5 mg/kg BW, administered three times per week), an albendazole-treated group, a native control group, and a pumpkin oil control group. Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry analysis of the pumpkin seed oil revealed a broad spectrum of biologically active compounds. The pumpkin seed oil treatment led to a significant reduction in the parasite burden, with a 75% decrease in adult worms and a 66% decrease in encysted larvae. Additionally, the infected animals treated with pumpkin oil exhibited a marked reduction in intestinal inflammation, characterized by a progressive increase in goblet cells. The number of encysted larvae in the diaphragm and muscle tissues was also significantly decreased. Furthermore, pumpkin seed oil treatment significantly reduced MMP-9 levels in both intestinal and muscular tissues, highlighting its potential to attenuate inflammation. Apple waste (APW) is the residual product after apple processing, including apple peel, apple core, apple seed, and other components. A large quantity of APW produced is abandoned annually, leading to serious resource waste and environmental pollution. APW is rich in natural active compounds, such as pectin, polyphenols, fatty acids, and dietary fiber, which has a good use value. This paper reviewed the current research on recovering active components from APW. The traditional extraction methods (acid, alkali, physical, enzyme, etc.) and the novel extraction methods (SWE, UAE, MAE, RFAE, etc.) for the recovery of pectin, polyphenols, apple seed oil, apple seed protein, and dietary fiber from APW were systematically summarized. The basic principles, advantages, and disadvantages of different extraction methods were introduced. The requirements of different extraction methods on extraction conditions and the effects of different extraction methods on the yield, quality, and functional activity of extracted products were analyzed. The challenges and future study direction of APW extraction have prospected. This paper aims to provide a reference for other researchers interested in APW extraction, improve the utilization rate of APW and extend the value chain of the apple industry. Cruciferous vegetables and oilseeds are rich in glucosinolates that can transform into isothiocyanates upon enzymic hydrolysis during post-harvest handling, food preparation and/or digestion. Vegetables contain glucosinolates that have beneficial bioactivities, while glucosinolates in oilseeds might have anti-nutritional properties. It is therefore important to monitor and assess glucosinolates and isothiocyanates content through the food value chain as well as for optimized crop production. Vibrational spectroscopy methods, such as infrared (IR) spectroscopy, are used as a nondestructive, rapid and low-cost alternative to the current and common costly, destructive, and time-consuming techniques. This systematic review discusses and evaluates the recent literature available on the use of IR spectroscopy to determine glucosinolates and isothiocyanates in vegetables and oilseeds. NIR spectroscopy was used to predict glucosinolates in broccoli, kale, rocket, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, brown mustard, rapeseed, pennycress, and a combination of Brassicaceae family seeds. Only one study reported the use of NIR spectroscopy to predict broccoli isothiocyanates. The major limitations of these studies were the absence of the critical evaluation of errors associated with the reference method used to develop the calibration models and the lack of interpretation of loadings or regression coefficients used to predict glucosinolates. In this work, biodiesel was synthesized from castor and black mustard oil seeds, through homogenous alkaline transesterification with methanol. The impact of parameters such as alcohol amount, catalyst quantity, temperature, and reaction time have been optimized. The yield of castor biodiesel (COB) was 93.53% w/w at 20.7 wt.% methanol, and black mustard biodiesel (MOB) was 93.88% w/w at 20 wt.% methanol. The other conditions wt.% KOH, temperature, and reaction time were 0.5, 60 °C, and 60 min respectively. (COB) and (MOB) were mixed with diesel fuel (DI) in various ratios to obtain (B5, B10, B15, B20, B30, and B50), and the physicochemical properties of biodiesel are measured employing ASTM standards. The diesel one-cylinder engine was used as a test engine. CO2, CO, NOx, and SO2 emissions from biodiesel and its blends were measured and compared to DI. COB and MOB blends emitted less CO2, CO, and SO2 emissions than DI, along with a slight increase in NOx emissions. Obesity is a multifactorial disease that is difficult to control worldwide. Although nuts are recognized health foods, the application of food in obesity management is unclear. We systematically reviewed the literature and performed a meta-analysis to evaluate if nut consumption favors people on energy restriction (ER) dietary interventions. Four databases were used to search for eligible articles in May 2024. This review was conducted according to the PRISMA guide, and the bias risk of papers was evaluated. For the meta-analysis, we extracted the endpoint values of the group's variables and estimated the effect sizes by the random-effects model. Sixteen and ten articles were included in the systematic review and meta-analysis, respectively. Almonds were evaluated in the majority of studies (n = 6). The consumption of nuts (28 to 84 g/d, 4 to 72 months) included in ER (–250 to 1000 kcal/d) did not differently affect anthropometry (weight loss, BMI, waist and hip circumferences), body composition (fat mass, fat-free mass, or lean mass), markers of glucose (glycemia and insulinemia), lipid metabolism (total cholesterol, HDL-c, LDL-c, LDL-c/HDL-c, or triglycerides), and systolic and diastolic blood pressure. In most analyses, stratifying studies by type of nut or intervention time did not present different results in the meta-analysis. Biodiesel is seen as more environmentally benign than petroleum-based fuels. It is also cheaper and capable of creating cleaner energy, which has a good impact on increasing the bioeconomy. An investigation was conducted on a novel heterogeneous catalyst system utilized in the synthesis of eco-friendly biodiesel from date seed oil, a non-edible feedstock obtained through the calcination of desiccated camel manure at varying temperatures. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analysis, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were utilized to characterize this catalyst. As a result of raising the calcination temperature, the results showed that the pore size of the catalyst decreased. The biodiesel production was optimized to be 86% by using the transesterification method. The optimal reaction parameters included a catalyst with 4% loading, a molar ratio of 1:8 between date seed oil and ethanol, and a temperature of 75 °C for a reaction period of three hours. The confirmation of FAME generation was achieved by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). The fuel qualities of fatty acid ethyl ester are in accordance with ASTM, suggesting that it is a suitable alternative fuel option. Utilizing biodiesel derived from waste and untamed resources to establish and execute a more sustainable and ecologically conscious energy plan is praiseworthy. The adoption and integration of green energy practices could potentially yield positive environmental outcomes, thereby fostering enhanced societal and economic development for the biodiesel sector on a broader scale. This study explores the implementation of the One Sample Strategy (OSS), a co-regulation program aimed at managing mycotoxin risk in Texas maize. Fumonisin-contaminated cereals and oilseeds that contain greater than 5 mg kg−1 of the toxin (B1, B2, and B3) are a risk for equids and rabbits, and levels greater than 60 mg kg−1 are a risk to ruminants. The OSS, previously successful in managing aflatoxin risk in Texas maize, was evaluated for its effectiveness in handling fumonisin risk in maize, specifically as it relates to ruminants. In 2017, 25 analysts across seven firms qualified to participate in the program. To ensure greater accuracy in testing, working control samples were provided to the participating OSS firms with the requirement that their results fall within +/− 20% of the target concentration. Ninety-four percent of the working controls met this specification. The capability to grind maize to the OSS prescribed particle size was met by 100% of participants. To verify testing accuracy, file samples collected from each OSS firm were analysed by UPLC–MS/MS. The 177 fumonisin verification samples analysed by Office of the Texas State Chemist (OTSC) were correlated (r = 0.93) with co-regulation laboratories. Results were plotted in an operating curve to depict type I and type II errors. Error analysis revealed a type I error rate of 13% and type II error rate of 2% for the 5 mg kg−1 guidance level, and 6% and 8%, respectively, for the 60 mg kg−1 guidance level. For 2017, 994 official reports of analysis for fumonisin in whole maize in the Texas High Plains were issued by the seven laboratories that employed 25 OTSC-credentialed analysts. The OSS co-regulation program, supported by a quality systems approach and government regulations, has proven effective in managing fumonisin risk in Texas maize, enhancing both market confidence and livestock safety. Momordica charantia (M. charantia) seeds are usually discarded; however, the oil extracted from seeds contains polyunsaturated fatty acids with potent antibacterial activity. Unfortunately, low extraction rate and instability of M. charantia seed oil (MCSO) limits its potential food applications. Therefore, it is crucial to explore industrial methods to increase the extraction yield and enhance stability of MCSO. Optimization of extraction process parameters for MCSO revealed a decrease in acid- and peroxide values with an α-eleostearic acid content of 41.07% ± 1.28%. Furthermore, polyvinyl alcohol/Tween-80/MCSO (PVA/T-80/MCSO) films were prepared by electrospinning, and they showed good encapsulation due to the enhancement of viscosity, electrical conductivity, fiber morphology, and intermolecular interactions. PVA/T-80/MCSO films exhibited remarkable antibacterial activities against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, and Caenorhabditis elegans infected with Pseudomonas aeruginosa during in vitro and in vivo studies, respectively. Moreover, PVA/T-80/MCSO films successfully preserved strawberries by reducing microbial counts up to 13.8% on day 6 and controlling their moisture. This study provides new insights for the development of MCSO based natural and safe antibacterial packaging materials that could be used to enhance the quality and shelf life of food commodities. Background: In vitro single‐cell experiments may yield inconsistent results compared to clinical trials. To enhance the reliability of cosmetic active ingredient screening, a coculture model of B16F10‐HaCaT cells was established in vitro based on the structural characteristics of human skin, thereby improving the credibility of experimental outcomes. Currently, most cosmetic whitening additives primarily target simple efficacy goals such as inhibiting tyrosinase activity or melanin transfer. Therefore, investigating novel and efficient whitening additives has become a prominent research focus. Objectives: The aim is to establish an in vitro cell coculture model for more reliable experimental results and investigate the mechanism by which Paeonia lactiflora Pall seeds oil inhibits melanin production and transfer. Methods: The impact of different concentrations of Paeonia lactiflora Pall seeds oil on cocultured cell proliferation rate was assessed using cck8 assay. Tyrosinase inhibition ability in cocultured cells was tested using levodopa as a substrate. Melanin production inhibition ability in coculture cells was evaluated by lysing cells with sodium hydroxide. The effect of Paeonia lactiflora Pall seeds oil on dendrite‐related gene expression levels was examined through qPCR analysis. Additionally, Western blotting was employed to study the effect of Paeonia lactiflora Pall seeds oil on dendrite‐related protein expression levels. Results: Different concentrations of Paeonia lactiflora Pall seeds oil did not affect the proliferation activity of cocultured cells. A specific concentration of α‐MSH increased cell tyrosinase activity, cellular melanin content, as well as Rac1, Cdc42, and PAR‐2 gene and protein expression related to dendritic formation. Treatment with a certain concentration of Paeonia lactiflora Pall seeds oil resulted in decreased tyrosinase activity and melanin content in cells along with downregulated expression levels of Rac1, Cdc42, and PAR‐2 genes and proteins associated with dendritic formation. Conclusions: Paeonia lactiflora Pall seeds oil at specific concentrations exhibits the ability to inhibit tyrosinase activity, decrease melanin content, and possesses the potential to impede melanin transfer. • The field cultivation of oil tree peony experienced a "medium" pollination deficit. • Excluding pollinator pollination reduced the yield of oil tree peony by 44.24%, and oil tree peony showed a high dependence on bumblebee pollination. • Supplemental bumblebee pollination increased the seed yield of oil tree peony by 82.87% and the oil yield by 10.21%, which reduced the degree of pollination defects to a lower level. • Pollination by bumblebees ensures the stability of yield and quality of oil tree peony over time. Oil tree peony is a unique woody oil crop found exclusively in China. Its seed oil is a highly nutritious edible vegetable oil. However, its seed production varies greatly and is often low. Oil tree peony is a plant that relies on insects for pollination, but inadequate pollination is a common occurrence. In this study, we focused on the Paeonia ostii 'Fengdan' species and conducted a five-year study (from 2017 to 2022) in Luoyang, China. Our objective was to assess the extent of pollination deficiency and dependence, as well as quantify the contribution of supplemented bumblebees (Bombus terrestris) to the yield of oil tree peony. We also examined the effect of supplemented bumblebees on the temporal variation in yield through various pollinator survey designs, including supplemented bumblebees (BP), open pollination (OP), pollinator exclusion (EP), self-pollination treatments (SP), and artificial cross-pollination (CP). The results revealed a medium pollination deficit (D = 0.50) at the study sites for three consecutive years from 2020 to 2022, indicating limited pollination for oil tree peony under natural conditions. Importantly, BP significantly compensated for this deficiency (D = 0.22). Over the course of five years, BP increased the yield of oil tree peony by 82.87% on average compared to EP. Furthermore, the yield variation coefficient of EP (CVt=0.20) increased by 100% compared to BP (CVt=0.10). And we also observed significant variability in other yield parameters. Additionally, oil tree peony production was reduced by 44.24% in the absence of flower visitors, and the dependence on BP reached a "high" level. The fatty acid content in the seed oil did not show significant differences across treatments, indicating its stability. Overall, our pollination practices demonstrate that supplementing bee pollination can provide sufficient and stable pollination services, resulting in a higher and more stable yield of oil tree peony seeds. The Russian military invasion has caused a collapse in food supplies from Ukraine to world markets. The transformation of Ukrainian export logistics has been carried out under critical conditions and extremely limited deadlines. This article evaluated the transformations in logistics in the grain and oilseeds markets due to the war, discussed the impact of international agreements on export and logistics supply chains, and proposed marketing strategies for the trade of grain, oilseeds, and related products during wartime. The authors employed various general scientific and special methods and approaches, including a systematic approach, abstract-logical and graphic methods, retrospective and comparative analysis, correlation-regression analysis, and forecasting methods. A periodisation of the export logistical transformation due to the war was used. It included the following stages: the collapse of logistics; the growth of exports due to the impact of international agreements; and the operation of an alternative Ukrainian maritime corridor with the support of international partners. The significant impact of production and sales transformations caused by the war on the growth of wheat export logistics costs for various supply bases was demonstrated. The authors concluded that the export logistics risks were primarily mitigated by low grain and oilseed prices for agricultural producers. An assessment of the grain, oil crops, and processing products export market in Ukraine was also provided. The development of effective marketing strategies was highlighted. The practical value of the study lies in the use of the research results for developing marketing strategies for enterprises and European cooperation development projects in the agrarian sector. Background: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) is primarily transmitted via aerosol and droplets, but environmental surfaces or potentially contaminated foods may contribute to further viral transmission. Nigella sativa seed (black cumin seed) oil possesses various biological activities against bacteria, fungi, parasites, or viruses. Objectives: This study aimed to explore black cumin seed oil (BSO) with anti-SARS-CoV-2 activities using bovine coronavirus (BCoV) and human coronavirus (HCoV) OC43 as surrogates. Methods and Results: BSO was tested at 1-100 mL/L concentrations for cytotoxicity towards human rectal tumor (HRT-18G) cells and 0.1-10 mL/L for efficacy against BCoV and HCoV OC43 in suspension. Two coronaviruses were separately mixed with BSO suspension and incubated for various times (0, 15, 30, 45, and 60 min) at 4, 23, and 37°C. The virus titer reduction was determined by median tissue culture infectious dose (TCID50) assay with HRT-18G cells as the host. BSO concentrations of 1-20 mL/L exhibited low cytotoxicity (<10%) towards HRT-18G cells. The inactivation of coronaviruses by BSO was concentration-, temperature-, and exposure time-dependent. At 37°C, BSO reduced 2.0 logs of BCoV and 3.0 logs of HCoV OC43 in 60 min, respectively. Specifically, half maximal effective concentration (EC50) of BSO at 4, 23, and 37°C after the 1-h exposure was 4.28, 3.06, and 0.87 mL/L against BCoV, respectively, and 0.61, 0.61 and 0.48 mL/L against HCoV OC43, respectively. Moreover, BSO didn't affect the attachment of BCoV and HCoV OC43 into host cells. Conclusion: Our findings on the inhibition activity of BSO against SARS-CoV-2 surrogates suggested the potential use of this natural product in mitigating SARS-CoV-2 infection. Opium poppy is a plant used in both the pharmaceutical and food industries. Substances found on the surface of dry poppy seeds belong to the group of opium alkaloids. However, the presence of these substances in food products poses a risk to consumer health, which is why new permissible levels for both substances in poppy seeds and derivative products have been introduced in Regulation (EU) 2023/915. This research aimed to analyze the content of all six opium alkaloids in poppy seeds provided directly by producers as well as those available on the local market in Poland. The research confirmed the presence of morphine in all examined poppy seed samples. The alkaloid content ranged from 12.46 to 102.86 mg/kg for seeds purchased in local markets and from 1.1 to 110.1 mg/kg for seeds obtained directly from producers. Both groups showed similar levels of morphine content as well as other OAs, which significantly exceeded the permissible limit of 20 mg/kg set by the European Commission (EU) 2023/915. These results indicate that the presence of morphine and other opium alkaloids in poppy seeds exceeds permissible levels, posing a serious health issue and necessitating further research and improvement in processing methods. Seven fatty acids were detected by GC-MS in Xanthoceras sorbifolium Bunge seed oil extracted at different temperatures, including Palmitic acid C16:0, Stearic acid C18:0, Oleic acid C18:1, Eicosenoic acid C20:1, Docosenoic acid C22:1, Tetracosenoic acid C24:1, and Linoleic acid C18:2. The highest content of nervonic acid (NA) was found in Xanthoceras sorbifolium Bunge seed oil extracted at 70 °C. Three methods were selected to analyze the extraction rate of nervonic acid in Xanthoceras sorbifolium Bunge seed oil, including urea complexation, low-temperature solvent crystallization, and a combined treatment using these two methods. The final content of nervonic acid obtained was 14.07%, 19.66%, and 40.17%, respectively. The combined treatment method increased the purity of nervonic acid in Xanthoceras sorbifolium Bunge seed oil by 12.62 times. Meanwhile, thermogravimetric behavior analysis of samples extracted using different methods was conducted by thermogravimetric analyzer, which suggested that the thermal stability of the samples extracted by the combined treatment was enhanced. These results can provide a new process parameter and scientific basis for the extraction of NA. The interesterification process allows structured lipids (SLs) to be obtained with a modified triacylglycerol (TAG) structure, in which the unfavorable saturated fatty acids (SFAs) are replaced with nutritionally significant fatty acids (FAs) such as monounsaturated (MUFAs) and polyunsaturated (PUFAs). Oxidative stability is crucial for the quality of SLs. This study aimed to characterize and evaluate the FA profile and oxidative stability of SLs synthesized by the enzymatic interesterification of hemp seed oil (HO) and coconut oil (CO) blends. Blends were prepared in three ratios (75% HO:25% CO, 50% HO:50% CO, and 25% HO:75% CO) and interesterified using sn-1,3 regiospecific lipase for 2 or 6 h. FA composition, the FA distribution of TAGs, acid value (AV), peroxide value (PV), and oxidation time were analyzed and compared to non-interesterified blends. Results showed no significant difference in the SFA:MUFA ratios between interesterified and non-interesterified blends with the same proportions. Lauric acid predominantly occupied the sn-2 position in all blends. Interesterified blends had higher AVs, exceeding codex standards, while PVs remained within the acceptable limits. Blends with 75% HO had lower oxidation times compared to those with 75% CO, with no significant difference between interesterified and non-interesterified blends. In the interesterification process of the studied blends, new TAGs with a modified structure were created, which may affect their physical and nutritional properties. This process also had a significant effect on the AV and PV levels, but not on the oxidation time of the modified blends. Therefore, it is necessary to remove free FAs after the enzymatic process to produce SLs characterized by improved hydrolytic stability. This will lead to better technological properties compared to the original oils. The rationale for this work was to investigate the phytoconstituents of the Caesalpinia decapetala species and their possible antibacterial and antioxidant capabilities, based on their traditional use in treating conditions such as inflammation, diabetes, purgative, and bronchitis. Analysis of the C. decapetala seed identified phytoconstituents such as flavonoids, alkaloids, phenolics, glycosides, saponins, proteins, terpenoids, and triterpenoids. The quantitative analysis revealed that the phenolic content of C. decapetala seed was greater than that of the seed oil (889 ± 0.35 mg GAE/100g of dry weight). Additionally, the total flavonoid content of the seed was estimated to be higher than that of the seed oil (225.03 ± 7.13mg QE/100g of dry weight). Furthermore, the seed of C. decapetala contained 11.5813% ± 0.242 of the total alkaloid contents. The antioxidant activity of the seed oil was investigated using the 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), ferric reducing power, and 2,2-azino-bis-3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid (ABTS) techniques. The measured IC50 value for DPPH was 114.86 µg/mL, while for ABTS it was 138.45µg/mL. Seed oil exhibited a more pronounced zone of inhibition in its antibacterial activity against K. pneumoniae. Overall, the present investigation validates that the seed and seed oil of C. decapetala have the potential to serve as a valuable reservoir of minerals, antioxidants, and antibacterial properties. This is due to the presence of diverse phytoconstituents, including phenolic compounds, flavonoids, alkaloids, di-α-tocopherol, stigmasterol, γ-sitosterol, and lupeol, within its fatty acid composition. As Kazakhstan expands its oilseed cultivation, particularly with flax, it is essential to understand how different flax varieties and growth conditions impact the quality of oil and fiber. Despite a recent slight decrease in flax sown area, its dualpurpose value remains significant. Therefore, this study was conducted in the growing seasons of 2022 and 2023 to determine the fatty acid composition of the oil and the quality of the fiber of various varieties of oil flax cultivated in the conditions of the Akmola region, northern Kazakhstan. Different varieties of Chinese selection - UF1, UF2, UF3, UF4, UF5, UF6, and zoned flax cultivar - Kostanay Yantar, Leader and Iceberg were examined in this study. A randomized complete block design with three replications was performed in the experiments. There were eight varieties and samples in total, with the standard being the zoned flax variety Kostanay Yantar. Germination of seeds of oil flax ranged from 66.2 to 84.8 percent. Among Chinese selection varieties, the best germination rate was obtained for the UF0 2 in the value of 92.4%. The specified variety in terms of field germination exceeds other varieties of foreign selection by 9.9%. Under regional conditions. The significance level of the results attained indicated that they were not statistically significant (y=14.256ln (x)+29.509), which was explained by the small sample size. It should be noticed that the achieved correlation results were positive, that was, when the values of one parameter increased, the compared parameter also increased significantly. The aim of this study is to develop a nanoemulgel encapsulating a Tunisian Prickly Pear (Opuntia ficus-indica L.) seed oil (PPSO) to assess, for the first time, the in vivo efficacy of this nanoformulation on wound healing. Phytocompounds of this oil have been reported in the literature as having powerful pharmacological activities. However, it remains poorly exploited due to low bioavailability. A nanoemulsion (NE) was designed by determining the required hydrophilic–lipophilic balance (HLB) and subsequently characterized. The mean droplet size was measured at 56.46 ± 1.12 nm, with a polydispersity index (PDI) of 0.23 ± 0.01 using dynamic light scattering. The zeta potential was −31.4 ± 1.4 mV, and the morphology was confirmed and assessed using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). These characteristics align with the typical properties of nanoemulsions. The gelification process resulted in the formation of a nanoemulgel from the optimum nanoemulsion. The high wound healing efficiency of the nanoemulgel was confirmed compared to that of a medicinally marketed cream. The outcomes of this research contribute valuable insights, for the first time, into the potential therapeutic applications of PPSO and its innovative pharmaceutical formulation for wound healing. The processing of edible oil mainly involves three stages: oilseed pretreatment, oil extraction, and oil refining. Oilseed pretreatment is the primary step in edible oil production. Thermal pretreatment of oilseeds plays a crucial role in improving oil yield and enhancing product flavor. However, poor thermal treatment conditions can destroy micronutrients and lead to the formation of harmful substances, affecting the nutritional and safety quality of edible oil. This study primarily focused on various thermal pretreatment methods, such as high-temperature roasting, infrared, microwave, and ultrasonic treatment. It summarized the main types of thermal pretreatment and their characteristics in oilseed processing. Additionally, it provided an overview of the effects of different thermal pretreatment methods on oil yield, basic oil quality, nutrient content, and harmful components. This information served as a reference for developing flexible and stable pretreatment technologies for oilseeds, which could achieve precise and moderate oil processing, and improve the nutritional and safety quality of edible oil.
