- Abstract
Decades of interest in responsible leadership has drawn critical attention to how future leaders are formed by academic leadership education. It has forced teachers to increasingly contemplate what leadership ideas and pedagogical practices they bring to the classroom, and who they are in the light of the ideas and practices they adhere to. In this ‘Leading Questions’ we take an interest in how leadership educators’ identities are formed and exploited in everyday teaching. The questions and comments we present are part of an ongoing conversation on identity work triggered by the controversies we experienced when co-teaching a course titled Rethinking Leadership at a renowned international business school. Where most discussions of identity work in a business school context only highlight the distressing and unfavourable aspects of identity work, we take a different approach. We confess how we struggle with our own identities as leadership educators. We then argue this identity work comes with pedagogical potential, yet to be accounted for, especially relevant to future education of critical and responsible leaders. Finally, we confess that even if our years of conversation on our different teacher identities did not result in a distinct pedagogical model, it dramatically changed and charged our ability to intentionally make space for controversial identity work in the leadership classroom.

- Abstract
BACKGROUND: Assessment of undergraduate students using assessment instruments in the clinical setting is known to be complex. The aim of this study was therefore to examine whether two different assessment instruments, containing learning objectives (LO`s) with similar content, results in similar assessments by the clinical supervisors and to explore clinical supervisors' experiences of assessment regarding the two different assessment instruments. METHOD: A mixed-methods approach was used. Four simulated care encounter scenarios were evaluated by 50 supervisors using two different assessment instruments. 28 follow-up interviews were conducted. Descriptive statistics and logistic binary regression were used for quantitative data analysis, along with qualitative thematic analysis of interview data. RESULT: While significant differences were observed within the assessment instruments, the differences were consistent between the two instruments, indicating that the quality of the assessment instruments were considered equivalent. Supervisors noted that the relationship between the students and supervisors could introduce subjectivity in the assessments and that working in groups of supervisors could be advantageous. In terms of formative assessments, the Likert scale was considered a useful tool for evaluating learning objectives. However, supervisors had different views on grading scales and the need for clear definitions. The supervisors concluded that a complicated assessment instrument led to limited very-day usage and did not facilitate formative feedback. Furthermore, supervisors discussed how their experiences influenced the use of the assessment instruments, which resulted in different descriptions of the experience. These differences led to a discussion of the need of supervisor teams to enhance the validity of assessments. CONCLUSION: The findings showed that there were no significant differences in pass/fail gradings using the two different assessment instru

10. Disinformation and Echo Chambers : How Disinformation Circulates on Social Media Through Identity-Driven Controversies

- Abstract
This article investigates how disinformation circulates on social media as adversarial narratives embedded in identity-driven controversies. Empirically, the article reports on the flat Earth echo chamber on YouTube, a controversial group arguing that the earth is a plane, not a sphere. By analyzing how they weave their arguments, this study demonstrates that disinformation circulates through identity-based grievances. As grudges intensify, back-and-forth argumentation becomes a form of knowing that solidifies viewpoints. Moreover, the argument resists fact-checking because it stokes the contradictions of identity work through grievances (pathos) and group identification (ethos). The conceptual contribution proposes a two-phase framework for how disinformation circulates on social media. The first phase, “seeding,” is when malicious actors strategically insert deceptions by masquerading their legitimacy (e.g., fake news). The second phase, “echoing,” enlists participants to cocreate the contentious narratives that disseminate disinformation. A definition of disinformation is proposed: Disinformation is an adversarial campaign that weaponizes multiple rhetorical strategies and forms of knowing—including not only falsehoods but also truths, half-truths, and value-laden judgments—to exploit and amplify identity-driven controversies. Finally, the paper has implications for policy makers in handling the spread of disinformation on social media.

This paper presents two conceptual methods, based on dynamic programming, for one-step look-ahead control of a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) in a wheel loader. The first method developed, designated Stochastic Dynamic Programming (SDP), uses a statistical load prediction and stochastic dynamic programming for minimizing fuel use. The second method developed, designated Free-Time Dynamic Programming (FTDP), has vehicle speed as a state and introduces a fixed 0.1 s delay in the bucket controls in a combined minimization of fuel and time. The methods are evaluated using a set of 34 measured loading cycles, used in a ‘leave one out’ manner. The evaluation shows that the SDP method requires about 1/10th of the computational effort of FTDP and has a more transparent impact of differences in the cycle prediction. The FTDP method, on the other hand, shows a 10% lower fuel consumption, which is close to the actual optimum, at the same cycle times, and is able to complete a much larger part of the evaluation cycles.

In this collection of short, invited essays on the topic of marketing (as) rhetoric we deal with a variety of issues that demonstrate the centrality of rhetoric and rhetorical considerations to the pursuit of marketing scholarship, research and practice. Stephen Brown examines the enduring rhetorical power of the 4Ps; Chris Hackley argues for the critical power of rhetorical orientations in marketing scholarship but cautions us on the need to work harder in conceptually connecting rhetorical theory and modern marketing frameworks; Shelby Hunt explains how rhetorical processes are incorporated in his inductive realist model of theory generation, using one of his most successful publications as an illustration; Charles Marsh demonstrates what Isocrates' broad rhetorical project has to teach us about the importance of reputation cultivation in modern marketing; Nicholas O'Shaughnessy uses an analysis of Trump's discourse to argue that political marketing as it is currently conceived is ill-equipped to engage effectively with the rhetorical force of Trump's 'unmarketing'; Barbara Phillips uses Vygotsky's work on imagination to investigate the important of pleasure and play in advertising rhetoric; and finally, David Tonks, who in many ways started it all, reiterates the need for marketers to recognise the strength of the relationship between marketing and persuasion. Unterschultz (2), Tomas Nilsson (3) Abstract: AgriStability is the primary Canadian agricultural risk management program. Recent experience with bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in the cattle sector demonstrated that output prices are susceptible to both 'normal' risk and sudden, 'catastrophic' declines. This paper evaluates the AgriStability program for cow-calf producers when there is potential for catastrophic price risk. A simulation model is developed. Under a base case scenario, when there is no catastrophic price risk, AgriStability behaves more like an income support program than a risk management tool. Risk-neutral producers see a 12.1% increase in certainty equivalent wealth compared to 12.5% for moderately risk-averse producers. Introducing catastrophic price risk increases risk-averse producers' expected benefits to 21.8%. Actuarially fair program premiums and implied subsidies are also estimated. These results demonstrate that AgriStability is highly subsidized. Finally, benefits from supplementary catastrophic revenue insurance are calculated and discussed, along with several additional structural features of the program. We report herein a new method for the synthesis of densely functionalized chiral allyl SCF3, SCF2R, SCN and SAr species with a separate CF3 functionality. The synthetic approach is based on selenium‐catalyzed sulfenofunctionalization of chiral α‐CF3 allylboronic acids. The reactions proceeded with remarkably high stereo‐, diastereo‐ and site‐selectivity, based on the formation of a stable thiiranium ion followed by rapid deborylative ring opening. Lusk (3) Abstract: U.S. consumers are increasingly concerned about food safety, environmental degradation, and animal welfare at the live animal production stage. In response, meat suppliers are developing food credence certification to secure market access, increase margins, and increase overall demand. The objective of this paper is to characterize the demand and the market potential of a credence certification program for pork in the United States. Information regarding consumer willingness to pay for the conventional and certified products is derived from a latent class random utility model. The willingness to pay estimates are subsequently compared to the costs of implementing the programs at the producer, packing, and retailing stages. One of the findings in this study is that a significant segment of consumers would purchase certified pork at the anticipated marginal cost of certification. Therefore, future studies should consequently focus on the welfare economic implications on consumers and meat suppliers from incomplete adoption of voluntary certification programs on the part of both producers and consumers. 33. Controversial identity work in leadership education

- Abstract
This paper takes an interest in how leadership educators’ identity is formed in everyday teaching. Decades of interest in “authentic” leaders has drawn critical attention to how future leaders are formed in academic leadership education. This in turn causes leadership educators to, increasingly, contemplate what ideas they bring to the classroom, and who they are in the light of the ideas they adhere to. The identity work of leadership educators is here approached from a rhetorical perspective to highlight the argumentative context of leadership education. Drawing on two leadership educators’ experiences of co-teaching leadership, presented as “confessional tales”, it was found that by arguing for a particular leadership idea or pedagogy, leadership educators rhetorically work up various identities which in turn endorse the arguments they make. To research on identity work in leadership education this paper contributes with empirical illustration of how leadership education is embedded in controversies in and through which educators and students engage in highly self-reflexive and overlapping identity work. This paper argues that leadership educators should downplay the robustness of the leadership ideas they bring to the classroom, and pay more attention to the ideas of leadership that emerge in controversies with other educators, students, and themselves.

This study was motivated by both observations in upper secondary school classes in the Swedish programs natural science programme (NA) and technology programme (TE), where unexpected and unexplained differences between the groups of students were seen, and by differences found in statistics covering these two programs. The gender distribution is the most pronounced difference, where this is about equal in NA but with a significant male overrepresentation in TE, but there are differences also in cultural and educational backgrounds among the two groups of students. It is obvious that these differences do not occur during education in upper secondary school but is established at the point when the students choose their program. The purpose of this study is therefore to investigate the causes and rationale for why students choose as they do, among these two programs. The scientific questions formed are 'On what are the students choice of NA/TE based?', 'What attitude do students have toward the programs when they choose?' and 'Are there any differences in how students at the two programs make and motivate their decisions?'. These questions are investigated through an interview study where some students who had just started at their upper secondary studies were asked to recount their experience from choosing program. The interviews were conducted during the first two weeks after the start of the semester and included five students from NA and six students from TE. The students were interviewed individually, each for about half an hour, according to a semi-structured scheme. The interviews were split into two parts, where the first focused on their choice and their selected program and the second brought up the program which was not selected. The interviews were analyzed according to several scientific theories, in the areas of processes and motifs, comfort zones and choice theory. The results of the interviews indicate that the students primarily choose programs based on the subjects they are most interested in, where the students at NA prefer biology and the students at TE prefer technology. However, the study also shows that there are differences between the personalities of the students who choose the two programs. The study shows that, in general, NA students are determined in their choice, they only make a limited consideration of other options and are considered to be socially stronger. The students at TE are more analytical in their selection and have thought their choices through thoroughly but were considered to be less socially competent.

The frequency dependence of the longitudinal relaxation rate, known as the magnetic relaxation dispersion (MRD), can provide a frequency-resolved characterization of molecular motions in complex biological and colloidal systems on time scales ranging from 1 ns to 100 μs. The conformational dynamics of immobilized proteins and other biopolymers can thus be probed in vitro or in vivo by exploiting internal water molecules or labile hydrogens that exchange with a dominant bulk water pool. Numerous water 1H and 2H MRD studies of such systems have been reported, but the widely different theoretical models currently used to analyze the MRD data have resulted in divergent views of the underlying molecular motions. We have argued that the essential mechanism responsible for the main dispersion is the exchange-mediated orientational randomization (EMOR) of anisotropic nuclear (electric quadrupole or magnetic dipole) couplings when internal water molecules or labile hydrogens escape from orientationally confining macromolecular sites. In the EMOR model, the exchange process is thus not just a means of mixing spin populations but it is also the direct cause of spin relaxation. Although the EMOR theory has been used in several studies to analyze water 2H MRD data from immobilized biopolymers, the fully developed theory has not been described. Here, we present a comprehensive account of a generalized version of the EMOR theory for spin I = 1 nuclides like 2H. As compared to a previously described version of the EMOR theory, the present version incorporates three generalizations that are all essential in applications to experimental data: (i) a biaxial (residual) electric field gradient tensor, (ii) direct and indirect effects of internal motions, and (iii) multiple sites with different exchange rates. In addition, we describe and assess different approximations to the exact EMOR theory that are useful in various regimes. In particular, we consider the experimentally important dilute regime, for which approximate analytical results are derived. As shown by the analytical expressions, and confirmed by exact numerical calculations, the dispersion is governed by the pure nuclear quadrupole resonance frequencies in the ultraslow-motion regime, where the relaxation rate also exhibits a much stronger dependence on the electric field gradient asymmetry than in the motional-narrowing regime. Studien, This study was motivated by both observations in upper secondary school classes in the Swedish programs natural science programme (NA) and technology programme (TE), where unexpected and unexplained differences between the groups of students were seen, and by differences found in statistics covering these two programs. The results of the interviews indicate that the students primarily choose programs based o

Mechanical Engineering ,Maskinteknik - Abstract
The transmissions of present heavy wheel loaders are in general based on torque converters. The characteristics of this component suits these machines, especially in that it enables thrust from zero vehicle speed without risk of stalling the engine, without active control. Unfortunately, the component also causes losses which might become large compared to the transmitted power. One approach for mitigating these losses is to switch to a continuously variable transmission. Changing to such a system greatly increases the possibility, and the need, for actively selecting the engine speed, and here a conflict emerges. A low engine speed is desired for high efficiency but a high speed is required for high power. Heavy wheel loaders often operate according to a common repeating pattern known as the short loading cycle. This cycle is extremely transient, which makes the choice of engine operating point both important and difficult. At the same time, the repeating pattern in the operation enables a rough prediction of the future operation. One way to use the uncertain prediction is to use optimization techniques for selecting the best control actions. This requires a method for detecting the operational pattern and producing a prediction from this, to formulate a manageable optimization problem, and for solving this, and finally to actually control the machine according to the optimization results. This problem is treated in the four papers that are included in this dissertation. The first paper describes a method for automatically detecting when the machine is operating according to any of several predefined patterns. The detector uses events and automata descriptions of the cycles, which makes the method simple yet powerful. In the evaluations over 90% of the actual cycles are detected and correctly identified. The detector also enables a quick analysis of large datasets. In several of the following papers this is used to condense measured data sequences into statistical cycles for the control optimization. In the second paper dynamic programming and Pontryagin’s maximum principle is applied to a simplified system consisting of a diesel engine and a generator. Methods are developed based on the maximum principle analysis, for finding the fuel optimal trajectories at output power steps, and the simplicity of the system enables a deeper analysis of these solutions. The methods are used to examine and visualize the mechanisms behind the solutions at power transients, and the models form the basis for the models in the following papers. The third paper describes two different concepts for implementing dynamic programming based optimal control of a hydrostatic transmission. In this system one load component forms a stochastic state constraint, and the concepts present two different strategies for handling this constraint. The controller concepts are evaluated through simulations, in terms of implementability, robustness against uncertainties in the prediction and fuel savings. The fourth paper describes the implementation and testing of a predictive controller, based on stochastic dynamic programming, for the engine and generator in a diesel electric powertrain. The controller is evaluated through both simulations and field tests, with several drivers, at a realistic work site, thus including all relevant disturbances and uncertainties. The evaluations indicate a ∼ 5% fuel benefit of utilizing a cycle prediction in the controller.

- Abstract
The evolution into a networked society, where a wide variety of devices are connected to the Internet, opens up many new opportunities for creating smart products and applications that dynamically adapt to the current environment. A common scenario will be that applications require or benefit from using several devices at the same time for the execution. Such distributed applications may be complex to write for an application developer. The goal of the open-source framework Calvin, developed by Ericsson Research, is to make it possible for developers of distributed applications to focus on their ideas instead of the complex implementation details. A user may specify some details about where the application is allowed to execute. Based on this information and other parameters, Calvin will automatically decide where it is most beneficial for different parts of the application to execute. Calvin can also handle migration to other devices without interrupting the execution of the application. This dynamic distributed execution model results in challenges when it comes to deciding what resources specific applications, running on behalf of different users, should be allowed to access on a specific device. In this thesis, an authorization framework, based on fine-grained attribute-based access control, is proposed as a solution for the access control in Calvin. Flexibility and compact message formats are some of the most important aspects of the design in order to support different devices with different constraints. The proposed authorization solution has been implemented and is now available as a part of the Calvin framework.

- Abstract
Recent development has renewed the interest in drivetrain concepts which gives a higher degree offreedom by disconnecting the engine and vehicle speeds. This freedom raises the demand for activecontrol, which especially during transients is not trivial, but of which the quality is crucial for the successof the drivetrain concept. In this work the fuel optimal engine operating point trajectories for a naturallyaspirated and a turbocharged diesel engine, connected to a load which does not restrict the engine speed,is derived, analysed and utilized for finding a suboptimal operating point trajectory. The analysis andoptimization is made with dynamic programming, Pontryagin’s maximum principle and a suboptimalstrategy based on the static optimal operating points. Methods are derived for using Pontryagin’smaximum principle for finding the optimal operating point trajectories, for simple load cases. The timeneeded for computation is reduced a factor 1000−100, depending on engine layout, compared to dynamicprogramming. These methods are only applicable to very simple load cases though. Finally, a suboptimalcalculation method which reduce the time needed for computation a factor > 1000 compared to dynamicprogramming, while showing a < 5% increase in fuel consumption compared to the optimal, is presented.

Teknik och teknologier ,Engineering and Technology - Abstract
Throughout the vehicular industry there is a drive for increased fuel efficiency. This is the case also for heavy equipment like wheel loaders. The operation of such machines is characterized by its highly transient nature, the episodes of high tractive effort at low speed and that power is used by both the transmission and the working hydraulics. The present transmission is well suited for this operation, though the efficiency is low in some modes of operation. Both operational advantages and efficiency drawbacks are highly related to the use of a torque converter. Continuously variable transmissions (CVTs) may hold a potential for achieving similar operability with reduced fuel consumption, though such devices increase the demand for, and importance of, active control. Common wheel loader operation is readily described in a framework of loading cycles. The general loading cycle is described, and a transmission oriented cycle description is introduced, in deterministic and stochastic forms, and a description is made on how such cycles are created from measurements. A loading cycle identifier is used for detecting cycles in a set of measured data, and a stochastic cycle is formed from statistics on the detected cycles. CVTs increase the possibility for active control, since a degree of freedom is introduced in the engine operating point. Optimal operating point trajectories are derived, using dynamic programming (DP), for naturally aspirated (NA) and turbocharged (TC) engines. The NA-engine solution is analyzed with Pontryagin’s maximum principle (PMP). This analysis is used for deriving PMP based methods for finding the optimal solutions for both engines. Experience show that these methods are 100 times faster than DP, but since the restrictions on the applicable load cases are severe, the main contribution from these is in the pedagogic visualization of optimization. Methods for deriving suboptimal operating point trajectories for both the NA and the TC engines are also developed, based on the optimization results. The methods are a factor >1000 faster than DP while producing feasible trajectories with less than 5% increase in fuel consumption compared to the optimal. Multi-mode CVTs provide the possibility of even higher efficiency than single mode devices. At the same time, the added complexity makes control development increasingly time consuming and costly, while the quality of the control is decisive for the success of the system. It is therefore important to be able to evaluate the potential of transmission concepts before control development commence. Stochastic dynamic programming is used and evaluated as a tool for control independent comparing of the present transmission and a hydrostatic multi-mode CVT concept. The introduction of a stochastic load complicates the optimization, especially in the feasible choice of states for the optimization. The results show that the multi-mode CVT has at least 15% lower minimum fuel consumption than the present transmission, and that this difference is not sensitive to prediction uncertainties.

Optimizing the configuration of a wheel loader to customer needs can lead to a significant increase in efficiency with respect to fuel economy, cost, component dimensioning etc. Experience show that even modest customer adaptation can save around 20% of fuel cost. A key motivator for this work is that wheel loader manufacturers in general does not have full information about customer usage of the machine and the main objective here is to develop an algorithm that automatically, using only production sensors, extracts information about the usage of a machine at a specific customer site. Two main challenges are that sensors are not located with respect to this task and the significant usage disturbances that typically occur during operation. The proposed solution is a robust method, based on a mix of techniques using basic signal processing, state automaton techniques, and parameter estimation algorithms. A key property of the method is the method of combining, individually very simple, basic techniques in a scheme where robustness are introduced. The approach is evaluated on measured data of a wheel loader loading gravel and shot rock.

- Abstract
Marketing has traditionally been understood from the perspective of marketing management. This causes problems when we study marketing practices because the normative discourse of marketing management is not particularly useful for describing the day-to-day work of marketing practitioners. This calls for marketing research from new perspectives. Rhetorical business – A study of marketing work in the spirit of contradiction investigates marketing work in professional service organizations from a rhetorical perspective. The overall research question – What do marketers do when they do marketing work? – is explored empirically through conversations, observations and daily interaction and argumentation with professionals involved in the marketing of consulting services. The rhetorical theory applied in the analysis builds on the assumption that every reasonable argument can be met with an equally reasonable counterargument, which is not only how we argue but also a representation of how we gain knowledge of the world – namely, by contradicting it. The analysis is organized in three themes – situation, strategy and subject – that address questions such as Where and when do marketers argue for business purposes? What rhetorical strategies are used?, and How can the subjects of marketing work be portrayed? This is followed by a discussion of the analysis under the two headings persuasive marketing talk and marketing work “in-between”. This book concludes that marketing work is accomplished by self-reflexive marketers who argue for business purposes in, through and in-between meetings as they employ versatile and expansive language and enact contradictory selves. In so concluding the book contributes a multifaceted account of marketing work beyond the framework of normative marketing management. It also shows how rhetorical theory can be used in marketing research to analyse aspects of marketing practice that would otherwise have been poorly accounted for. Finally, the book

- Abstract
Wheel loaders often have a highly repetitive pattern of operation, which can be used for creating a rough prediction of future operation. As the present torque converter based transmission is replaced with an infinitely variable device, such as an electric or hydraulic transmission, a freedom in the choice of engine speed is introduced. This choice is far from trivial in the extremely transient operation of these machines, but the availability of a load prediction should be utilized. In this paper, a predictive engine and generator controller, based on stochastic dynamic programming, is described, implemented and evaluated. The evaluation is performed against non-predictive controllers in the same system, to lift out any possible benefits of utilizing the repetition based prediction. Simulations and field tests show that the controllers are able to handle disturbances introduced from model errors, the machine environment and the human operator, and that the predictive controller gives around 5% lower fuel consumption than the non-predictive reference controllers.
