Anorexia Nervosa (AN) is an eating disorder characterised by self-starvation. Accounts of AN typically frame the disorder in individualistic terms: e.g., genetic predisposition, perceptual disturbances of body size and shape, experiential bodily disturbances. Without disputing the role these factors may play in developing AN, we instead draw attention to the way disordered eating practices in AN are actively supported by others. Specifically, we consider how Pro-Anorexia (ProAna) websites—which provide support and solidarity, tips, motivational content, a sense of community, and understanding to individuals with AN—help drive and maintain AN practices. We use C. Thi Nguyen’s work on epistemic “echo chambers”, along with Maria Lugones’ work on “worlds” and “ease”, to explore the dynamics of these processes. Adopting this broader temporal and intersubjective perspective, we argue, not only helps to further illuminate the experiential character of AN but also has important clinical and therapeutic significance.

Background: In addition to their great optical properties, nanodiamonds (NDs) have recently proved useful for two-photon-excited photodynamic therapy (TPE-PDT) applications. Indeed, they are able to produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) directly upon two-photon excitation but not with one-photon excitation; Methods: Fluorescent NDs (FNDs) with a 100 nm diameter and detonation NDs (DNDs) of 30 nm were compared. In order to use the gems for cancer-cell theranostics, they were encapsulated in a bis(triethoxysilyl)ethylene-based (ENE) periodic mesoporous organosilica (PMO) shell, and the surface of the formed nanoparticles (NPs) was modified by the direct grafting of polyethylene glycol (PEG) and amino groups using PEG-hexyltriethoxysilane and aminoundecyltriethoxysilane during the sol–gel process. The NPs’ phototoxicity and interaction with MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells were evaluated afterwards; Results: Transmission electronic microscopy images showed the formation of core–shell NPs. Infrared spectra and zeta-potential measurements confirmed the grafting of PEG and NH2 groups. The encapsulation of the NDs allowed for the imaging of cancer cells with NDs and for the performance of TPE-PDT of MDA-MB-231 cancer cells with significant mortality. Conclusions: Multifunctional ND@PMO core–shell nanosystems were successfully prepared. The NPs demonstrated high biocompatibility and TPE-PDT efficiency in vitro in the cancer cell model. Such systems hold good potential for two-photon-excited PDT applications.

International audience; Le site France-Vietnam : Bibliothèque des flamboyants (Bibliothèque nationale de France et Bibliothèque nationale du Vietnam), en mettant désormais à la disposition des historiens d’innombrables documents datant particulièrement de l’époque coloniale, rappelle opportunément que la France et le Vietnam ont une histoire commune depuis le XVIIe siècle jusqu’à nos jours. Il a l’ambition de jalonner des itinéraires dans les recherches sur le Vietnam et son moment indochinois, sur la France et sa mémoire vietnamienne et sur les rencontres et imbrications des deux cultures, qu’elles soient économiques, politiques, littéraires esthétiques ou religieuses. Il s’agit d’établir une sorte de trait d’union entre les traces de deux constructions identitaires, d’établir une dynamique collaborative entre les deux plus riches réserves de mémoire nationale, de tracer les contours d’un vaste patrimoine partagé.Après avoir présenté les caractéristiques d’un projet susceptible de renouveler l’historiographie française de l’Asie, le présent volume offre quelques exemples caractéristiques d’étude de la culture vietnamienne comme espace de transferts culturels et invitation à de nouvelles enquêtes d‘histoire transnationale. Si les interactions qu’il éclaire ressortissent souvent aux sciences humaines, elles mettent aussi en évidence les caractéristiques d’une francophonie littéraire vietnamienne.

International audience; Background: We aimed to provide a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials assessing the effect of oral vitamin supplementation on symptoms and disease activity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), spondyloarthritis (SpA) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA).Methods: A systematic literature review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials including patients with inflammatory rheumatic diseases were performed using MEDLINE, EMBASE and abstracts from recent international rheumatology congresses. Studies were reviewed in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. We analysed clinical outcomes according to each type of vitamin supplementation.Results: The initial search yielded 606 articles. Of these, 13 studies were included in the qualitative synthesis: eight studied vitamin D supplementation, two assessed vitamin E supplementation, two folic acid, and one vitamin K, all of them on RA patients. No studies on SpA or PsA were selected. Oral vitamin supplementations were not associated with a reduction in RA activity (DAS-28 or pain) or RA flares.Conclusions: Despite their beneficial effects, the effects of vitamin supplementation on RA activity, if any, seem to be limited. Evidence on their efficacy on SpA or PsA activity is lacking. However, folic acid supplementation should be suggested to prevent methotrexate-related side effects, and vitamin D should be given to patients with vitamin D deficiency to prevent musculo-skeletal complications.

The main goal of this paper is to study Image Aesthetic Assessment (IAA) indicating images as high or low aesthetic. The main contributions concern three points. Firstly, following the idea that photos in different categories (human, flower, animal, landscape, &hellip, ) are taken with different photographic rules, image aesthetic should be evaluated in a different way for each image category. Large field images and close-up images are two typical categories of images with opposite photographic rules so we want to investigate the intuition that prior Large field/Close-up Image Classification (LCIC) might improve the performance of IAA. Secondly, when a viewer looks at a photo, some regions receive more attention than other regions. Those regions are defined as Regions Of Interest (ROI) and it might be worthy to identify those regions before IAA. The question &ldquo, Is it worthy to extract some ROIs before IAA?&rdquo, is considered by studying Region Of Interest Extraction (ROIE) before investigating IAA based on each feature set (global image features, ROI features and background features). Based on the answers, a new IAA model is proposed. The last point is about a comparison between the efficiency of handcrafted and learned features for the purpose of IAA.

D’où qu’ils soient, les gens de mer ont toujours eu recours à diverses croyances pour faire face à la dangerosité de leur profession. Pour affronter la mer agitée, on invoque souvent des divinités protectrices. Si la figure de la mère sacrée est communément célébrée par les pêcheurs du monde entier, dans les pays limitrophes de la mer de Chine méridionale dont les Philippines, le Vietnam et la Malaisie cette dévotion s’exprime entre autres à travers le culte de trois figures féminines : la Vierge Marie, Mẫu Thoải et Mazu. Cet article examine le rôle de ces femmes dans les croyances des pêcheurs artisanaux. Qui sont-elles et comment sont-elles arrivées dans le panthéon des divinités marines ? Nous nous appuierons sur une étude comparative pour comprendre le rôle du culte des déesses-mères dans les communautés de pêcheurs des trois pays cités et démontrer que, derrière ces cultes, c’est bien la figure du féminin qui est reconnue et célébrée., Wherever they may be, seafarers have always resorted to diverse beliefs to deal with the dangerousness of their profession. To overcome the rough sea, protective deities are often invoked. While the figure of the sacred mother is commonly celebrated by fishermen around the world, in the three countries bordering the South China Sea, the Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia, this devotion is expressed through the worship of three women: the Virgin Mary, Mẫu Thoải and Mazu. This article examines the role of these women in the beliefs of artisanal fishermen. Who are they and how did they arrive in the pantheon of marine deities? We will use a comparative study to understand the role of the cult of mother-goddesses in the fishing communities of the three countries mentioned and show how, behind these cults, it is the figure of the female that is recognized and celebrated., De donde provengan, las gentes del mar siempre han recurrido a diversas creencias para confrontar los peligros de su profesión. Para confrontar el mar agitado, con frecuencia se invoca a divinidades protectoras. Si la figura de la madre sagrada es comúnmente celebrada por los pescadores del mundo entero, en los países limítrofes del mar de China, entro ellos Filipinas y Malasia, esta devoción se expresa en particular a través del culto de tres figuras femeninas: la Virgen Maria, Mẫu Thoải y Mazu. Este artículo examina el rol de esas mujeres en las creencias de los pescadores artesanales. ¿Quiénes son y cómo llegaron al panteón de las deidades marinas? Nos basamos en un estudio comparativo para comprender el rol del culto de las deidades-madres en las comunidades de pescadores de los tres países citados y demostrar que, detrás de estos cultos, es efectivamente una figura femenina que es reconocida y celebrada.
