A tuberculose e uma doenca infectocontagiosa causada pela bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Sua transmissao ocorre a partir da inalacao de aerossois provenientes das vias aereas.

Os nutracêuticos compostos de sulfato de condroitina e glucosamina são comumente utilizados no manejo da doença articular degenerativa na rotina veterinária. Entretanto, existem controvérsias sobre a contribuição dessas substâncias à cartilagem articular. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a eficácia de um nutracêutico veterinário à base de sulfato de condroitina e glucosamina na reparação de defeitos osteocondrais induzidos no côndilo femoral de cães, através de análises macroscópica, histológica e histomorfométrica. O nutracêutico foi administrado no dia seguinte à indução da lesão, pela via oral, a cada 24 horas (grupo tratado - GT, 24 animais), sendo comparado a animais que não receberam o produto (grupo controle - GC, de igual número de animais). Aos 15, 30, 60 e 90 dias após a cirurgia, seis animais por grupo foram anestesiados para ser realizada a coleta das amostras. Aos 15 dias, os defeitos eram macroscopicamente preenchidos por tecido de coloração rósea a avermelhada. Já a partir dos 30 dias, observou-se preenchimento por tecido de coloração esbranquiçada, tanto nos animais do GT quanto nos do GC, com consistência mais firme ao toque digital aos 60 e 90 dias de pós-operatório. A análise histológica revelou que, em ambos os grupos, houve inicialmente formação de coágulo sanguíneo que, posteriormente, foi substituído por uma rede de fibrina, com proliferação de capilares a partir da medula óssea adjacente e infiltração de células mesenquimais na periferia do coágulo. À medida que se processou a diferenciação celular, o tecido de reparação se apresentou na maioria das vezes com aspecto de fibrocartilagem e, na região mais profunda da área correspondente ao defeito, ocorreu formação de osso novo subcondral. A histomorfometria sugeriu que o nutracêutico não favoreceu o processo de reparação da cartilagem articular. Concluiu-se que o nutracêutico não influenciou consideravelmente na proliferação de condrócitos nem na restauração da arquitetura hialina. Chondroitin and glucosamine sulfate nutraceuticals are commonly used in the management of degenerative articular disease in veterinary routine. However, there are controversies on the contribution of these substances to articular cartilage. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of a chondroitin and glucosamine sulfate-based veterinary nutraceutical on the repair of an induced osteochondral defect in a dog femoral condyle, by macroscopic, histological and histomorphometric analyses. The nutraceutical was orally administered the day following injury induction, every 24 hours (treated group, TG, n=24), compared with animals that did not receive the product (control group, CG, n=24). Six animals per group were anaesthetized for sample collection at 15, 30, 60 and 90 days after surgery. At 15 days, defects were macroscopically filled with red-pinkish tissue. After 30 days, whitish color tissue was observed, both in TG and CG animals, with firmer consistency to touch at 60 and 90 postoperative days. Histological analysis demonstrated that, in both groups, there was initial blood clot formation, which was subsequently substituted by a fibrin net, with capillary proliferation from the adjacent bone marrow and infiltration of mesenchymal cells in clot periphery. As cellular differentiation developed, repair tissue presented a fibrocartilage aspect most of the time, and new subchondral bone formation occurred in the deepest area corresponding to the defect. Histomorphometry suggested that the nutraceutical did not favor the articular cartilage repair process. It was concluded that nutraceutical did not significantly influence chondrocytes proliferation or hyaline architecture restoration.

O estudo da reparação e tratamento das feridas cutâneas possui extrema importância em medicina veterinária devido à alta frequência e dificuldade no tratamento por segunda intenção. Este estudo objetivou avaliar o uso da membrana de nanofibras de polímeros biodegradáveis, como alternativa no tratamento de feridas em cães. Foram incluídos no trabalho dois cães com feridas por mordedura. Foi realizado o debridamento e limpeza das feridas e a aplicação da membrana. Em um animal, a ferida em região proximal ao calcâneo esquerdo, apresentava sinais clínicos de infecção, com tecido necrótico, exposição da musculatura e do tendão gastrocnêmio. Foi observada formação rápida de tecido de granulação que se tornou exuberante, sendo necessário debridamento seriado. Porém, com a suspensão do uso da membrana a formação desse tecido não foi mais observada, evoluindo para epitelização e rápida contração. No outro animal, a ferida em face medial proximal do membro pélvico direito, era profunda, com sinais clínicos de infecção e musculatura exposta. A formação de tecido de granulação também apresentou-se rápida, utilizando-se a membrana apenas até que o nível deste tecido se igualasse ao da pele, evoluindo para rápida epitelização e contração sem formação de tecido de granulação exuberante. Foi observada reparação eficiente e com maior conforto para os pacientes durante aplicação e utilização da membrana. Acredita-se que mais estudos devam ser realizados focando a aplicação em cães até o aparecimento do tecido de granulação saudável, pois as observações deste estudo indicam possível estimulação do tecido de granulação exuberante com utilização da membrana. The study of wound healing and its treatment is extremely important in veterinary medicine due to the high frequency of wounds and the difficulty in treating wounds by second intention. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the use of a nanofiber membrane made of biodegradable polymers as a method of wound treatment in dogs. This study comprised two dogs with bite wounds. Debridement and cleaning was performed followed by the application of the membrane. In one dog, the wound was in the left proximal calcaneal region with clinical signs of infection, necrotic tissue, and muscle and the gastrocnemius tendon were exposed. The wound displayed rapid formation of granulation tissue which became excessive, so it was necessary to debride several times. However, with the suspension of the use of the membrane, formation of this tissue was not observed, and the wound evolved to epithelialization and fast contraction. In the second dog, there was a deep wound on the medial aspect of the proximal right hind limb, with clinical signs of infection, with muscle exposure. Once the membrane was placed, granulation tissue formed, and the membrane was used until the level of this tissue reached the skin. The wound underwent rapid epithelialization and contraction, without developing exuberant granulation tissue. Efficient wound repair was observed and the dogs exhibited greater comfort during application and use of the membrane. More studies should be conducted in dogs focusing on the application of this membrane until the appearance of healthy granulation tissue, as continued use seems to stimulate the formation of exuberant granulation tissue.

Absorbable membranes are used to promote the regeneration of periodontal defects by Guided Tissue Regeneration (GTR). However, their collapse into the defect is commonly reported, impairing regeneration. Therefore, absorbable but rigid membranes aiming at preventing such collapse were developed and analyzed in periodontal regeneration.Membranes were analyzed in class II furcation defects in dogs; procedures included periodontal disease induction, prophylaxis and GTR (treated groups) or open flap debridement alone (control group). For GTR, the membranes were made of either 25% hydroxyapatite (HA) in polyhydroxybutyrate matrix (PHB) or 35% HA in PHB. Animals were clinically evaluated for gingival recession, clinical attachment level (CAL) and biopsies were collected at 60 and 120 days. Bone volume, trabeculae number, trabecular thickness and trabecular separation were quantified by micro-computed tomography, followed by histology.Membrane exposure was observed in both treated groups (25 and 35% HAP) from the 8(th) day after surgery, continuously progressing until 120 days. Mean CAL for all groups remained above normal values for dogs. Bone volumetric values were not significantly different. Partial formation of bone, cementum and periodontal ligament was observed in treated groups. An inflammatory infiltrate was observed in the dense connective tissue that partially filled the center of the treated defects with active osteoclasts on bone surface.Although partial regeneration of the defect was observed, it was limited by wound contamination. Consequently, rigid absorbable membranes made of HA and PHB failed to improve the regeneration of class II furcation defects in dogs.

O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a eficiencia de uma tecnica cirurgica utilizando enxerto da fascia lata autogena, fixada em dois pontos e um programa fisioterapico para auxiliar na recuperacao pos-cirurgica. Foram utilizados 10 caes higidos pesando entre 15 e 22 kg. Apos a ruptura experimental do ligamento cruzado cranial, o enxerto de fascia lata foi fixado no condilo femoral lateral, por meio de um parafuso esponjoso e arruela e, posteriormente, no tendao patelar com suturas em “X”. Todos os animais receberam tratamento fisioterapico diario imediatamente apos a cirurgia ate o fim das avaliacoes, 60 dias apos a cirurgia, que consistiu de aplicacao de gelo nos primeiro dois dias. A partir do 10o dia foi feita aplicacao de bolsa de agua quente seguida de cinesioterapia passiva e caminhadas que foram intensificadas ate o 60o dia. No 25o dia foi introduzido o exercicio de tres apoios e, no 39o dia, os animais foram estimulados a subir e descer escada. Os sinais de claudicacao foram mais intensos nos primeiros 15 dias melhorando progressivamente ate o ultimo dia de avaliacao. Os diâmetros da coxa e do joelho nao foram estatisticamente diferentes nos momentos antes da cirurgia e no decorrer de todo o experimento. Houve reducao da amplitude de movimento imediatamente apos a cirurgia aumentando gradativamente durante o periodo experimental. No pos-cirurgico, os resultados dos testes de estabilidade foram sempre negativos. A tecnica utilizada foi capaz de restabelecer a funcao do ligamento cruzado cranial e o protocolo de fisioterapia auxiliou na recuperacao da funcao da articulacao femorotibiopatelar, preveniu a atrofia muscular e permitiu o retorno da amplitude de movimentos. SUMMARY This study assessed the efficiency of a surgical technique with intra and extracapsular components using autogenous fascia lata graft, fixed at two points, as a technique capable of restoring function of the cranial cruciate ligament and a physiotherapy protocol to assist in post-surgical recovery. Ten healthy dogs weighing between 15 and 22 kg were used. After experimental rupture of cranial cruciate ligament, fascia lata graft was fixed on the lateral femoral condyle using a cancellous screw and washer, and subsequently on the patellar tendon with "X" sutures. All animals underwent physical therapy immediately after surgery until the end of the evaluation, 60 days after surgery. In the first two days they underwent ice therapy. From the 10th day, hot water bottle was applied locally, followed by passive kinesiotherapy and walks that were intensified up to the 60 th day. On the 25 th day, three limbs load-bearing exercise as introduced, and on the 39 th day, the animals were encouraged to climb up and down the stairs. The signs of lameness were more intense in the first 15 days and improved progressively until the last day of evaluation. Thigh and knee diameters were not statistically different before the surgery and during the whole experiment. Motion range reduced immediately after surgery, but increased gradually during the experimental period. Postoperatively, the results of stability tests were always negative. The used technique was capable of restoring the function of the cranial cruciate ligament and the physiotherapy protocol helped to recover the femorotibiopatelar joint function while preventing muscle atrophy and allowing the return of motion range.
