The Internet of Things (IoT) systems extensively use Message Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol. MQTT standards has no description regarding how to implement the security services in MQTT platforms although it is an urgent requirement for IoT environment. This work introduces a performance analysis for Protected MQTT (PMQTT) protocol which is based on MQTT with addressing for its security limitations. PMQTT offers security services such as confidentiality, authentication, and key exchange. The presented protocol is applied on a telemedicine case study as it is a critical platform for security.

The Message Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT) application layer protocol is widely used in Internet of Things (IoT) platforms. The MQTT standard has no mandatory requirements regarding the security services. A telemedicine is one of the IoT applications that mandates a critical level of security especially when it comes to human life. In this work, the weaknesses of MQTT are addressed and a modified protocol is proposed. This protocol mandates security aspects such as authentication, key exchange, and confidentiality. The protocol is proved to achieve its claims and is incorporated into a telemedicine environment as a critical environment for security.

Cloud computing presents a new approach to allow the development of dynamic, distributed and highly scalable software (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly supplied and allowed us with minimal management effort or service provider interaction. Cloud computing provides many advantages to its customers but failing to solve information security concerns. Strong encryption with key management is one of the core mechanisms that Cloud Computing systems should use to secure data, so key management is an important technology that can help secure applications and data in the cloud. In this paper, a proposed elliptic curve based distributed key generation (ECDKG) scheme for Transient Clouds is presented. Performance analysis showed that this scheme not only has strong security, but also has less computational and communication costs.

Cloud computing provides innumerable benefits to its customers but failing to solve information security concerns. Cloud customers and providers need to guard against data loss and theft. Encryption of personal and enterprise data is strongly recommended. Strong encryption with key management is one of the core mechanisms that Cloud Computing systems should use to protect data, so key management is an important technology that can help secure applications and data in the cloud. In this paper, a formal analysis of a user authentication protocol for cloud computing is presented. Analysis show that the protocol is vulnerable to replay and Man-in-the middle attacks. To overcome these attacks, a modified authentication protocol for the cloud computing environment is proposed.

 Abstract—Governmental bodies, such as military and national security agencies, keep looking for proprietary encryption algorithms to secure their confidential communication applications. Customizing published encryption algorithms is a trend to acquire proprietary encryption algorithms at affordable research and development cost. Cost, here, may be represented by the required efforts for designing and testing the customized algorithm. The security architecture of the 3 rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) mobile communications includes a standardized encryption algorithm F8 which is based on the KASUMI block cipher algorithm. In this paper we propose a newly customized version of the KASUMI block cipher. The customization is targeting the S-boxes of KASUMI. New S-Boxes are generated and tested to verify the required cryptographic features.

LEO satellites operate in a harsh radiation environment and therefore any electronic systems used on-board are very susceptible to faults induced by radiation., This paper presents an algorithm to protect the on board encryption process from Single Event Upsets (SEU). The presented algorithm combines Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)with hamming error detection and correction code. The algorithm is designed using VHDL and targeted to be implemented on a Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA). The simulation results show that the proposed design corrects any single error injected in the data during processing.

Maximum Distance Separable matrices became the state of the art as a diffusion component in block cipher design for example those MDS matrices used in algorithms such as AES and Twofish. This paper firstly reviews the relation between coding theory and cryptography in the context of providing optimal diffusion. Secondly, The Vandermonde and Cauchy based methodologies introduced by Mahdi Sajadieh et al. and J. Nakahara respectively for generating Involutory MDS matrices that are proposed to provide full block diffusion in order to decrease number of rounds of a block cipher were assessed. Finally Punctured MDS matrices are proposed to provide dynamicity of a block cipher, which guaranteed to provide optimum diffusion that should be considered in security proof against Linear and Differential Cryptanalysis of a block cipher.

Encrypting digital bit stream is a vital measure to secure digital communications. In this paper, a novel CMOS VLSI architecture based on a new algorithm for a 16-bit encryption/decryption module is designed and implemented. Multiples of the new implemented modules may be concatenated in parallel or in series resulting in either a faster block cipher system or a sophisticated yet more secured cipher system.
