Abstract

Abstract Globally, land and seascapes across the bioculturally diverse tropics are in transition. Impacted by the demands of distant consumers, the processes of global environmental change and numerous interventions seeking climate, conservation and development goals, these transitions have the potential to impact the relationships and plurality of values held between people and place. This paper is a Synthesis of seven empirical studies within the Special Feature (SF): ‘What is lost in transition? Capturing the impacts of conservation and development interventions on relational values and human wellbeing in the tropics’. Through two Open Forum workshops, and critical review, contributing authors explored emergent properties across the papers of the SF. Six core themes were identified and are subsumed within broad categories of: (i) the problem of reconciling scale and complexity, (ii) key challenges to be overcome for more plural understanding of social dimensions of landscape change and (iii) ways forward: the potential of an environmental justice framework, and a practical overview of methods available to do so. The Synthesis interprets disparate fields and complex academic work on relational values, human well‐being and de‐colonial approaches in impact appraisal. It offers a practical and actionable catalogue of methods for plural valuation in the field, and reflects on their combinations, strengths and weaknesses. The research contribution is policy relevant because it builds the case for why a more plural approach in intervention design and evaluation is essential for achieving more just and sustainable futures, and highlights some of the key actions points deemed necessary to achieve such a transition to conventional practice. Abstract

Abstract Measurement of the ultra-rare K + → π + ν ν ¯ $$ {K}^{+}\to {\pi}^{+}\nu \overline{\nu} $$ decay at the NA62 experiment at CERN requires high-performance particle identification to distinguish muons from pions. Calorimetric identification currently in use, based on a boosted decision tree algorithm, achieves a muon misidentification probability of 1.2 × 10 −5 for a pion identification efficiency of 75% in the momentum range of 15–40 GeV/c. In this work, calorimetric identification performance is improved by developing an algorithm based on a convolutional neural network classifier augmented by a filter. Muon misidentification probability is reduced by a factor of six with respect to the current value for a fixed pion-identification efficiency of 75%. Alternatively, pion identification efficiency is improved from 72% to 91% for a fixed muon misidentification probability of 10 −5.

Abstract

A sample of 3984 candidates of the K+→π+γγ decay, with an estimated background of 291±14 events, was collected by the NA62 experiment at CERN during 2017–2018. In order to describe the observed di-photon mass spectrum, the next-to-leading order contribution in chiral perturbation theory was found to be necessary. The decay branching ratio in the full kinematic range is measured to be (9.61±0.17)×10−7. The first search for production and prompt decay of an axion-like particle with gluon coupling in the process K+→π+a, a→γγ is also reported.

Abstract

Abstract A sample of 1.3 × 105 K + → π 0 e + νγ candidates with less than 1% background was collected by the NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS in 2017–2018. Branching fraction measurements are obtained at percent relative precision in three restricted kinematic regions, improving on existing results by a factor larger than two. An asymmetry, possibly related to T-violation, is investigated with no evidence observed within the achieved precision.

Abstract

Abstract The NA62 experiment at CERN, designed to study the ultra-rare decay K + → π + ν ν ¯ $$ \nu \overline{\nu} $$ , has also collected data in beam-dump mode. In this configuration, dark photons may be produced by protons dumped on an absorber and reach a decay volume beginning 80 m downstream. A search for dark photons decaying in flight to μ + μ − pairs is reported, based on a sample of 1.4 × 1017 protons on dump collected in 2021. No evidence for a dark photon signal is observed. A region of the parameter space is excluded at 90% CL, improving on previous experimental limits for dark photon masses between 215 and 550 MeV/c 2.

Abstract

The first search for ultra-rare K+ decays into the π+e+e−e+e− final state is reported, using a dataset collected by the NA62 experiment at CERN in 2017–2018. An upper limit of 1.4×10−8 at 90% CL is obtained for the branching ratio of the K+→π+e+e−e+e− decay, predicted in the Standard Model to be (7.2±0.7)×10−11. Upper limits at 90% CL are obtained at the level of 10−9 for the branching ratios of two prompt decay chains involving pair-production of hidden-sector mediators: K+→π+aa, a→e+e− and K+→π+S, S→A′A′, A′→e+e−.

Abstract The NA62 experiment at CERN targets the measurement of the ultra-rare K + → π + ν ν ¯ $$ {K}^{+}\to {\pi}^{+}\nu \overline{\nu} $$ decay, and carries out a broad physics programme that includes probes for symmetry violations and searches for exotic particles. Data were collected in 2016–2018 using a multi-level trigger system, which is described highlighting performance studies based on 2018 data.

Abstract

Abstract A sample of 2.8 × 104 K + → π + μ + μ − candidates with negligible background was collected by the NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS in 2017–2018. The model-independent branching fraction is measured to be (9.15 ± 0.08) × 10 −8, a factor three more precise than previous measurements. The decay form factor is presented as a function of the squared dimuon mass. A measurement of the form factor parameters and their uncertainties is performed using a description based on Chiral Perturbation Theory at O $$ \mathcal{O} $$ (p 6).

Introduction: The Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophies (LGMD) are a heterogeneous group of genetically inherited myopathies characterized by progressive weakness of the limb-girdle muscles. Pompe disease (PD) is a treatable lysosomal storage disorder with overlapping clinical features. The prevalence of these muscles disorders in Argentina is unknown. Aims: To describe the frequency of LGMD and PD and the variants identified in a group of Argentinean patients. Methods: A retrospective multicenter descriptive study was conducted in patients with muscle weakness investigated by a genetic panel for LGMD and PD through Next Generation Sequencing. The studied genes included: SGCA, SGCB, SGCG, SGCD, CAPN3, DYSF, TCAP, FKRP, ANO5, HNRPDL, GAA, CAV3. Results: Samples from 472 patients were studied (259 males, mean age 39.0 ± 20.1 years old). In 51 patients (10.8%), a genetic disorder was confirmed. The most frequent diagnoses were: LGMD 2A/R1 (CAPN3) in 3%, Pompe Disease (GAA) in 2.5%, LGMD 2B/R2 (DYSF) in 2.1% and LGMD 2I/R9 (FKRP) in 0.8%. The main variants identified were CAPN3, c.1076C > T (p.P359L); GAA, c.-32 13 T > G; DYSF, c.5399_5400dupCC (p.F1801fs*24) and FKRP, c.826C > A (p.Leu276Ile). In only two of the 12 patients with a definitive diagnosis of PD the panel was carried out for screening purposes (0.4%). Discussion: This panel confirmed a genetic muscular disorder in 10.8% of the investigated population. LGMD 2A/R1 was the most frequent genetic diagnosis. A definitive molecular diagnosis of Pompe disease was confirmed in 2.5% of the patients however, only 0.4% of the PD cases were new diagnosis. Resumen: Introducción: Las distrofias musculares de cinturas (LGMD, por sus siglas en inglés) son un grupo heterogéneo de miopatías genéticamente heredadas que se caracterizan por una debilidad progresiva de los músculos de las cinturas escapular y pélvica. La enfermedad de Pompe (EP) es un trastorno del almacenamiento lisosomal tratable con características clínicas superpuestas. Se desconoce la prevalencia de estos trastornos musculares en Argentina. Objetivos: Describir la frecuencia de LGMD y EP y el perfil de variantes identificado en un grupo de pacientes argentinos. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo multicéntrico retrospectivo en pacientes con debilidad muscular investigados mediante un panel genético para LGMD y EP a través de la tecnología Next Generation Sequencing. Discusión: Este panel identifico un trastorno muscular genético en el 10.8% de la población estudiada. LGMD 2A/R1 fue el diagnóstico genético más frecuente. Se constituyó un diagnóstico molecular definitivo de enfermedad de Pompe en el 2,5% de los pacientes; sin embargo, solo el 0,4% de los casos de EP fueron diagnósticos nuevos.

Abstract

A search for the K+→μ−νe+e+ decay, forbidden within the Standard Model by either lepton number or lepton flavour conservation depending on the flavour of the emitted neutrino, has been performed using the dataset collected by the NA62 experiment at CERN in 2016–2018. An upper limit of 8.1×10−11 is obtained for the decay branching fraction at 90% CL, improving by a factor of 250 over the previous search.

Abstract

Searches for lepton number violating K+→π−e+e+ and K+→π−π0e+e+ decays have been performed using the complete dataset collected by the NA62 experiment at CERN in 2016–2018. Upper limits of 5.3×10−11 and 8.5×10−10 are obtained on the decay branching fractions at 90% confidence level. The former result improves by a factor of four over the previous best limit, while the latter result represents the first limit on the K+→π−π0e+e+ decay rate.

Abstract The NA62 experiment reports the branching ratio measurement BR K + → π + ν ν ¯ = 10.6 − 3.4 + 4.0 stat ± 0.9 syst × 10 − 11 $$ \mathrm{BR}\left({K}^{+}\to {\pi}^{+}\nu \overline{\nu}\right)=\left({10.6}_{-3.4}^{+4.0}\left|{}_{\mathrm{stat}}\right.\pm {0.9}_{\mathrm{syst}}\right)\times {10}^{-11} $$ at 68% CL, based on the observation of 20 signal candidates with an expected background of 7.0 events from the total data sample collected at the CERN SPS during 2016–2018. This provides evidence for the very rare K + → π + ν ν ¯ $$ {\pi}^{+}\nu \overline{\nu} $$ decay, observed with a significance of 3.4σ. The experiment achieves a single event sensitivity of (0.839 ± 0.054) × 10 −11, corresponding to 10.0 events assuming the Standard Model branching ratio of (8.4 ± 1.0) × 10 −11. This measurement is also used to set limits on BR(K + → π + X), where X is a scalar or pseudo-scalar particle. Details are given of the analysis of the 2018 data sample, which corresponds to about 80% of the total data sample.

Abstract

Abstract A search for the K + → π + X decay, where X is a long-lived feebly interacting particle, is performed through an interpretation of the K + → π + ν ν ¯ $$ {\pi}^{+}\nu \overline{\nu} $$ analysis of data collected in 2017 by the NA62 experiment at CERN. Two ranges of X masses, 0–110 MeV/c 2 and 154–260 MeV/c 2, and lifetimes above 100 ps are considered. The limits set on the branching ratio, BR(K + → π + X), are competitive with previously reported searches in the first mass range, and improve on current limits in the second mass range by more than an order of magnitude.

Abstract The NA62 experiment reports an investigation of the K + → π + ν ν ¯ $$ {K}^{+}\to {\pi}^{+}\nu \overline{\nu} $$ mode from a sample of K + decays collected in 2017 at the CERN SPS. The experiment has achieved a single event sensitivity of (0.389 ± 0.024) × 10 −10, corresponding to 2.2 events assuming the Standard Model branching ratio of (8.4 ± 1.0) × 10 −11. Two signal candidates are observed with an expected background of 1.5 events. Combined with the result of a similar analysis conducted by NA62 on a smaller data set recorded in 2016, the collaboration now reports an upper limit of 1.78 × 10 −10 for the K + → π + ν ν ¯ $$ {K}^{+}\to {\pi}^{+}\nu \overline{\nu} $$ branching ratio at 90% CL. This, together with the corresponding 68% CL measurement of ( 0.48 − 0.48 + 0.72 $$ {0.48}_{-0.48}^{+0.72} $$ ) × 10 −10, are currently the most precise results worldwide, and are able to constrain some New Physics models that predict large enhancements still allowed by previous measurements.

Abstract

The NA62 experiment at CERN reports searches for K+→μ+N and K+→μ+νX decays, where N and X are massive invisible particles, using the 2016–2018 data set. The N particle is assumed to be a heavy neutral lepton, and the results are expressed as upper limits of O(10−8) of the neutrino mixing parameter |Uμ4|2 for N masses in the range 200–384 MeV/c2 and lifetime exceeding 50 ns. The X particle is considered a scalar or vector hidden sector mediator decaying to an invisible final state, and upper limits of the decay branching fraction for X masses in the range 10–370 MeV/c2 are reported for the first time, ranging from O(10−5) to O(10−7). An improved upper limit of 1.0×10−6 is established at 90% CL on the K+→μ+ννν¯ branching fraction.

Abstract

Abstract The results of a search for π 0 decays to a photon and an invisible massive dark photon at the NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS are reported. From a total of 4.12 × 108 tagged π 0 mesons, no signal is observed. Assuming a kinetic-mixing interaction, limits are set on the dark photon coupling to the ordinary photon as a function of the dark photon mass, improving on previous searches in the mass range 60–110 MeV/c 2. The present results are interpreted in terms of an upper limit of the branching ratio of the electro-weak decay π 0 → γ ν ν ¯ $$ {\pi}^0\to \gamma \nu \overline{\nu} $$ , improving the current limit by more than three orders of magnitude.

Abstract

The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS reports the first search for K+→π+νν¯ using the decay-in-flight technique, based on a sample of 1.21×1011 K+ decays collected in 2016. The single event sensitivity is 3.15×10−10, corresponding to 0.267 Standard Model events. One signal candidate is observed while the expected background is 0.152 events. This leads to an upper limit of 14×10−10 on the K+→π+νν¯ branching ratio at 95% CL.

Abstract

A search for heavy neutral lepton (N) production in K+→e+N decays using the data sample collected by the NA62 experiment at CERN in 2017–2018 is reported. Upper limits of the extended neutrino mixing matrix element |Ue4|2 are established at the level of 10−9 over most of the accessible heavy neutral lepton mass range 144–462 MeV/c2, with the assumption that the lifetime exceeds 50 ns. These limits improve significantly upon those of previous production and decay searches. The |Ue4|2 range favoured by Big Bang Nucleosynthesis is excluded up to a mass of about 340 MeV/c2.

Abstract

The NA62 experiment at CERN reports a search for the lepton number violating decays K+→π−e+e+ and K+→π−μ+μ+ using a data sample collected in 2017. No signals are observed, and upper limits on the branching fractions of these decays of 2.2×10−10 and 4.2×10−11 are obtained, respectively, at 90% confidence level. These upper limits improve on previously reported measurements by factors of 3 and 2, respectively.

Abstract

We report the measurement of the one-dimensional charged kaon correlation functions using 600GeV/c Σ−, π− and 540GeV/c p beams from the SELEX (E781) experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron. K±K± correlation functions are studied for three transverse pair momentum, kT, ranges and parameterized by a Gaussian form. The emission source radii, R, and the correlation strength, λ, are extracted. The analysis shows a decrease of the source radii with increasing kaon transverse pair momentum for all beam types.

Abstract

El conjunto residencial San Jerónimo de Yuste se encuentra ubicado en Bogotá, en un terreno inclinado en el pie de monte de los cerros orientales de la ciudad. Fue construido entre 2008 y 2011, como parte de un proyecto de urbanización promovido por la caja de compensación familiar Compensar. Durante mayo y junio de 2013 el terreno presentó desplazamientos tanto verticales como horizontales que generaron daños visibles en las estructuras y motivaron la evacuación de dos de las seis torres que conforman el conjunto. El presente trabajo presenta los resultados de la investigación que llevaron a cabo los grupos de investigación de las facultades de Arquitectura e Ingeniería de la Universidad de los Andes para determinar las causas que condujeron al evento de desplazamiento de la estructura debidas al movimiento del terreno, estimar el coeficiente de seguridad actual y proponer intervenciones geotécnicas y estructurales que permitan recuperar la edificación.

Abstract

Introducción: La enfermedad por coronavirus (COVID-19) ha causado una de las mayores pandemias conocidas al día de la fecha. La Sociedad Argentina de Cardiología (SAC) y la Federación Argentina de Cardiología (FAC) elaboraron el primer Registro Argentino de Complicaciones Cardiovasculares en pacientes con COVID-19 (RACCOVID-19), con el propósito de relevar, a nivel nacional, su impacto en la evolución hospitalaria de estos pacientes. Objetivos: Documentar la aparición de complicaciones cardiovasculares en pacientes internados por COVID-19 y evaluar predictores de riesgo de dichas complicaciones y su impacto pronóstico. Material y Métodos: Se incluyen datos de 2750 pacientes en 50 centros de 11 provincias del país, desde el 18 de mayo hasta el 31 de octubre de 2020. Resultados: La edad promedio fue de 57±18 años y hubo predominio de sexo masculino (60,2%). La tasa de complicaciones cardiovasculares fue del 15,3%. La insuficiencia cardíaca (43,5%), las arritmias (33,5%) y el daño miocárdico (31,1%) fueron las complicaciones más frecuentes. La mortalidad fue del 19,3%. Un modelo de predicción de sobrevida en la etapa hospitalaria incluyó las siguientes variables: edad, sexo masculino, valores de hematocrito y creatinina al ingreso, existencia de antecedentes patológicos, formas de presentación de COVID-19 graves y presencia de complicaciones cardiovasculares. Conclusiones: El registro RACCOVID-19 mostró una tasa de complicaciones cardiovasculares del 15,3%. La mortalidad total del registro fue del 19,3% y las complicaciones cardiovasculares junto con otras variables de presentación, así como la gravedad del cuadro clínico de COVID-19, forman parte de un perfil de riesgo clínico asociado a mayor mortalidad.

Abstract

Mexico is a seismically active country. Earthquakes with magnitudes larger than 7.0 happen, on average, every other year. This fact requires a rapid and consistent response from the national monitoring agency, the Servicio Sismológico Nacional, SSN (Mexican National Seismological Service). For this purpose, in 2014, the SSN created a set of procedures for the daily operations and rapid response called “Protocolo de Respuesta Inmediata ante Sismos Amenazantes” (PRISA, protocol of immediate response to threatening earthquakes). This protocol has been triggered for 292 events with a magnitude larger than or equal to 5.0 that occurred between April 2014 and July 2020. Here we present the response of the SSN, based on this protocol, to three significant earthquakes: the 8 and 19 September 2017 events (Mw 8.2 and 7.1, respectively) and the 23 June 2020 (Mw 7.4). The first two quakes caused severe damage in southern and central Mexico, whereas the third occurred during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic and confinement in Mexico. Having PRISA in place contributed to the efficient SSN response in the three events, even though some activities for the 2020 earthquake were performed remotely.

Abstract

Observational studies have widely demonstrated that galaxy physical properties are strongly affected by the surrounding environment. On one side, gas inflows provide galaxies with new fuel for star formation. On the other side, the high temperatures and densities of the medium are expected to induce quenching in the star formation. Observations of large structures, in particular filaments at the cluster outskirts (r>2r$_{200}$), are currently limited to the low redshift Universe. We present a multi-band dataset for the cluster MACS J0416.1-2403 (z=0.397), observed in the context of the Galaxy Assembly as a function of Mass and Environment with VST (VST-GAME) survey. Abstract

El Nogal del Pa��s Juglans jamaicensis ssp. Jamaicensis es un ��rbol end��mico y catalogado en peligro de extinci��n. Sus poblaciones en Cuba se localizan en los principales sistemas monta��osos protegidos como el del municipio de Bartolom�� Mas�� en la provincia de Granma. La conservaci��n de esta especie amenazada es una actividad compleja, que podr��a beneficiarse del conocimiento de las potencialidades de su uso, m��s all�� del tradicional aprovechamiento maderero. El trabajo investigativo tuvo como objetivo evaluar la actividad antibacteriana in vitro de la corteza del fuste de Juglans jamaicensis ssp. Jamaicensis (Nogal del Pa��s). En esta investigaci��n se realizaron extractos etan��licos, tintura al 20%, empleando las normas cubanas aprobadas para estos fines y se realizaron ensayos microbiol��gicos in vitro de los extractos, los cuales presentaron actividad antibacteriana frente a cepas de Staphylococcus aureus.Se demostr�� que el Nogal del Pa��s presenta principios activos de amplia acci��n biol��gica. El uso con fines medicinales de partes renovables del ��rbol, como la corteza, tendr��a beneficios ambientales, sociales y econ��micos. Al mismo tiempo que se mejora la calidad de los servicios de salud, a trav��s de la Medicina Natural y Tradicional, tambi��n se contribuye a la conservaci��n de la planta, al fomentar su aprovechamiento sostenible. 32. AUTOPSIA DE MEMBRANAS DE ��SMOSIS INVERSA DE PLANTAS DESALINIZADORAS CUBANAS

Abstract

La OSDE Agua y Saneamiento del Instituto Nacional de Recursos H��dricos de Cuba posee 14 plantas desalinizadoras ubicadas en siete provincias del pa��s y el municipio especial de la Isla de la Juventud. Estas plantas se ubican en zonas afectadas por severas sequ��as o zonas de inter��s tur��stico. El fouling de las membranas es un fen��meno que entorpece la explotaci��n sostenible de la tecnolog��a de ��smosis inversa para desalar el agua de mar o las aguas salobres. En los ��ltimos a��os, la comunidad cient��fica y las empresas muestran un inter��s creciente por comprender los mecanismos del fouling de las membranas y el desarrollo de m��todos para su control. Estos estudios se basan en un an��lisis exhaustivo de las membranas usadas, lo que se conoce como ���autopsia de membrana���. En el presente trabajo se brindan los resultados de la autopsia de membranas de plantas de ��smosis inversa, operadas por el INRH en Cuba. Se realizaron los siguientes ensayos en las membranas: p��rdida por ignici��n, microscop��a electr��nica de barrido (SEM-EDX), difractometr��a de rayos X (DRX), espectrofotometr��a infrarroja (ATR-FTIR), espectrometr��a de fluorecencia de rayos X (FRX), el test de Fujiwara y la prueba ��cida. La autopsia de membranas permiti�� identificar los principales tipos de sedimentos e incrustaciones, su composici��n y estructura cristalina, predominando los de tipo carbonatados. Los resultados permiten implementar procesos de limpieza de las membranas y condiciones operacionales ��ptimas para aumentar su vida ��til, con importantes beneficios sociales y econ��micos. Abstract

Materiales nanoestructurados de Ag@TiO2 se depositaron por la t��cnica de dip-coating sobre la superficie de las membranas de pistas grabadas de poli(tereftalato de etileno). Se realiz�� la caracterizaci��n del material nanoestructurado de Ag@TiO2 y de las membranas compuestas: tama��o de part��culas y potencial zeta (Malvern Zetasizer), contenido de Ag y TiO2 (Espectr��metro de fluorescencia de rayos X EDX-800HS, Shimadzu), estructura de la superficie de las membranas compuestas (Microscop��a de fuerza at��mica, Veeco diInnova). El material nanoestructurado de Ag@TiO2 consta de part��culas de TiO2 con tama��o medio de 200 nm y nanopart��culas de Ag con tama��o medio de 20 nm en su superficie. El potencial zeta de -23,8 �� 8,1 mV indica que el sistema disperso es estable ante la agregaci��n de las part��culas. Hay presencia de Ag y Ti en todas las membranas y existe una correlaci��n positiva entre su contenido y el tiempo de inmersi��n por dip-coating. Para un tiempo de contacto de 4 h se alcanzan valores m��ximos para el Ti de 83,7 �� 0,5 % y para la Ag de 2,47 �� 0,06 %. Las micrograf��as corroboran los resultados obtenidos por los otros m��todos, ya que se observan dep��sitos irregulares sobre toda la superficie de la membrana con tama��os similares a los de los poros (0,2 ��m). Abstract

Searches for the lepton number violating $K^{+} \rightarrow \pi^{-} \mu^{+} e^{+}$ decay and the lepton flavour violating $K^{+} \rightarrow \pi^{+} \mu^{-} e^{+}$ and $\pi^{0} \rightarrow \mu^{-} e^{+}$ decays are reported using data collected by the NA62 experiment at CERN in $2017$-$2018$. No evidence for these decays is found and upper limits of the branching ratios are obtained at 90% confidence level: $\mathcal{B}(K^{+}\rightarrow\pi^{-}\mu^{+}e^{+})

Abstract

Esta investigación buscó evaluar tres tiempos de fermentación 0, 24, 48 y 72 hrs en la calidad del café de variedad Catimor con proceso Honey. El trabajo se realizó en campo y laboratorio. Las variables evaluadas fueron organolépticas, físicas y microbiológicas. Los resultados muestran que el máximo puntaje de calidad alcanzado es 85,08 con fermentación de 72 hrs; luego con 48 hrs y con 24 hrs; el testigo con 0 hrs muestra menor puntaje; la calidad crece con el tiempo de fermentación en una curva parabólica de máximo a 120 hrs. El análisis de mohos indica que a 0 y 72 hrs hay mayor cantidad de UFC/g, mientras que a 24 y 48 hrs es menor. A 35,19 tiene menor cantidad. Según análisis físico a 0 y 72 hrs hay menor cantidad de humedad en granos; mientras que a 24 y 48 hrs es mayor y para llegar a 11% se requiere 61,2 hrs. Se concluye que las hrs de fermentación aumenta el porcentaje de rendimiento, variando de 72,9% con 0 hrs y a 76,37% con 72 hrs; el máximo se encuentra con 88,1 hrs.

Abstract

The coronavirus disease pandemic is caused by the highly infectious severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The infection can result in mild-to-severe disease, although many asymptomatic infections are described. There are many types of vaccines with different characteristics, and many have reached Phase III of clinical trials. In this review, we included the main vaccines approved worldwide, including those approved in Mexico. Vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia has been described, especially in adenovirus vector vaccines. There are specific concerns around vaccine safety and efficacy in special populations such as pregnant women and immunosuppressed individuals. Even though the evidence is scarce, vaccine application remains recommended in most cases. We concluded that the risks of adverse effects from the vaccines are minimal compared to the current risk of contracting the SARS-COV-2 infection. The benefit of applying the vaccines is greater than not applying them at all.

Abstract

The distribution and variability of phytoplankton in the upper layers of the ocean are highly correlated with physical processes at different time and spatial scales. Model simulations have shown that submesoscale features play a pivotal role on plankton distribution, metabolism and carbon fluxes. However, there is a lack of observational studies that provide evidence for the complexity of short-term phytoplankton distribution and variability inferred from theoretical and modeling approaches. In the present study, the development and decay of a submesoscale front south of Gran Canaria Island is tracked at scales not considered in regular oceanographic samplings in order to analyze the picoplankton response to short-term variability. Likewise, the contribution of each scale of variability to the total variance of the picophytoplankton community has been quantified. We observe statistically different picophytoplankton assemblages across stations closer than 5 km, and between time periods shorter than 24 h, which were related to high physical spatiotemporal variability. Our results suggest that both temporal and spatial variability may equally contribute to the total variance of picoplankton community in the mixed layer, while time is the principal contributor to total variance in the deep chlorophyll maximum (DCM).

Abstract

A search for the $K^+ \to \pi^+ X$ decay, where $X$ is a long-lived feebly interacting particle, is performed through an interpretation of the $K^+ \to \pi^+ \nu \bar\nu$ analysis of data collected in 2017 by the NA62 experiment at CERN. Two ranges of $X$ masses, $0-110$ MeV/$c^2$ and $154-260$ MeV/$c^2$, and lifetimes above 100 ps are considered. The limits set on the branching ratio, BR($K^+ \to \pi^+ X$), are competitive with previously reported searches in the first mass range, and improve on current limits in the second mass range by more than an order of magnitude. Abstract

Journal of high energy physics 02(2), 201 (2021). doi:10.1007/JHEP02(2021)201, The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS reports a study of a sample of $4 \times10^{9}$ tagged $\pi^0$ mesons from $K^+ \to \pi^+ \pi^0 (\gamma)$, searching for the decay of the $\pi^0$ to invisible particles. No signal is observed in excess of the expected background fluctuations. An upper limit of $4.4 \times10^{-9}$ is set on the branching ratio at 90% confidence level, improving on previous results by a factor of 60. This result can also be interpreted as a model-independent upper limit on the branching ratio for the decay $K^+ \to \pi^+ X$, where $X$ is a particle escaping detection with mass in the range 0.110-0.155 GeV$/c^2$ and rest lifetime greater than 100 ps. Model-dependent upper limits are obtained assuming $X$ to be an axion-like particle with dominant fermion couplings or a dark scalar mixing with the Standard Model Higgs boson., Published by SISSA, [Trieste]

Abstract

The NA62 experiment reports the branching ratio measurement $$ \mathrm{BR}\left({K}^{+}\to {\pi}^{+}\nu \overline{\nu}\right)=\left({10.6}_{-3.4}^{+4.0}\left|{}_{\mathrm{stat}}\right.\pm {0.9}_{\mathrm{syst}}\right)\times {10}^{-11} $$ BR K + → π + ν ν ¯ = 10.6 − 3.4 + 4.0 stat ± 0.9 syst × 10 − 11 at 68% CL, based on the observation of 20 signal candidates with an expected background of 7.0 events from the total data sample collected at the CERN SPS during 2016–2018. This provides evidence for the very rare K+→$$ {\pi}^{+}\nu \overline{\nu} $$ π + ν ν ¯ decay, observed with a significance of 3.4σ. The experiment achieves a single event sensitivity of (0.839 ± 0.054) × 10−11, corresponding to 10.0 events assuming the Standard Model branching ratio of (8.4 ± 1.0) × 10−11. This measurement is also used to set limits on BR(K+→ π+X), where X is a scalar or pseudo-scalar particle. Details are given of the analysis of the 2018 data sample, which corresponds to about 80% of the total data sample.

Abstract

The NA62 experiment reports an investigation of the $$ {K}^{+}\to {\pi}^{+}\nu \overline{\nu} $$ K + → π + ν ν ¯ mode from a sample of K+ decays collected in 2017 at the CERN SPS. The experiment has achieved a single event sensitivity of (0.389 ± 0.024) × 10−10, corresponding to 2.2 events assuming the Standard Model branching ratio of (8.4 ± 1.0) × 10−11. Two signal candidates are observed with an expected background of 1.5 events. Combined with the result of a similar analysis conducted by NA62 on a smaller data set recorded in 2016, the collaboration now reports an upper limit of 1.78 × 10−10 for the $$ {K}^{+}\to {\pi}^{+}\nu \overline{\nu} $$ K + → π + ν ν ¯ branching ratio at 90% CL. This, together with the corresponding 68% CL measurement of ($$ {0.48}_{-0.48}^{+0.72} $$ 0.48 − 0.48 + 0.72 ) × 10−10, are currently the most precise results worldwide, and are able to constrain some New Physics models that predict large enhancements still allowed by previous measurements.

Abstract

Continental shelves are the most productive areas in the seas with the strongest implications for global nitrogen cycling. The Yucatán shelf (YS) is the largest shelf in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM); however, its nitrogen budget has not been quantified. This is largely due to the lack of significant spatio-temporal in situ measurements and the complexity of the shelf dynamics, including coastal upwelling, coastal-trapped waves (CTWs), and influence of the Yucatán Current (YC) via bottom Ekman transport and dynamic uplift. In this paper, we investigate and quantify the nitrogen budget of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) and particulate organic nitrogen (PON) in the YS using a 9-year output from a coupled physical–biogeochemical model of the GoM. The sum of DIN and PON is here referred to as total nitrogen (TN). Results indicate that the main entrance of DIN is through its southern (continental) and eastern margins. The TN is then advected to the deep oligotrophic Bay of Campeche and central GoM. It is also shown that the inner shelf (bounded by the 50 m isobath) is “efficient” in terms of TN, since all DIN imported into this shelf is consumed by the phytoplankton. Submarine groundwater discharges (SGDs) contribute 20 % of the TN, while denitrification removes up to 53 % of TN that enters into the inner shelf. The high-frequency variability of the TN fluxes in the southern margin is modulated by fluxes from the YC due to enhanced bottom Ekman transport when the YC leans against the shelf break (250 m isobath) on the eastern margin. This current–topography interaction can help to maintain the upwelling of Cape Catoche, uplifting nutrient-rich water into the euphotic layer. The export of TN at both western and northwestern margins is modulated by CTWs with a mean period of about 10 d in agreement with recent observational and modelling studies.

Abstract

A large RICH detector is used in NA62 to suppress the muon contamination in the charged pion sample by a factor of 100 in the momentum range between 15 and 35 GeV/c. Cherenkov light is collected by 1952 photomultipliers placed at the upstream end. In this paper the characterization of the photomultipliers and the dedicated Frontend and Data Acquisition electronics are described, the time resolution and the light detection efficiency measurement are presented., 15 pages, 11 figures

Abstract

The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is designed to conduct precision tests of the Standard Model by studying rare decays of charged kaons. NA62 took data in 2016-2018 and collected a large sample of charged kaon decays into final states with multiple charged particles. The sensitivity to a range of lepton flavour and lepton number violating kaon decays provided by this data set is improved over the previously reported measurements. Results from the searches of $K^+→ π^-l^+l^+$ decays with a partial NA62 data sample are presented.

Abstract

The Ring Imaging Cherenkov detector of the NA62 experiment at CERN SPS was commissioned in 2014, but the optimal performance was achieved in 2016 after the precise mirror alignment with reconstructed tracks. The measurement and monitoring of basic performance parameters is discussed: ring radius resolution, ring centre resolution, single hit resolution and mean number of hits per ring. The performance is measured with 2016 data on the positron sample. Different contributions to the resolutions are calculated.
