1. Facile fabrication of 3D-printed cellulosic fiber/polylactic acid composites as low-cost and sustainable acoustic panels

Abstract

This work presents a green, cost-effective and eco-friendly strategy to reduce noise pollution by developing biopolymer-based 3D-printed acoustic panels. We successfully fabricated two series of composites by varying the weight percentage (wt%) of cellulose fibers of water hyacinth (WH) and pineapple leaf (PAL), with polylactic acid (PLA) as the matrix via the heat-press method. All samples were characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Physico-mechanical properties, including hardness, tensile, and impact strength, were improved with increasing fiber loading. Filaments of 1 wt% water hyacinth fibers (WHFs) in PLA (1 WHF/PLA) and 1 wt% pineapple leaf fibers (PALFs) in PLA (1 PALF/PLA) were prepared and tested for 3D printability. The sound absorption coefficients (α) of the 3D-printed panels were investigated from 500 to 5000 Hz sound frequency range. The 3D-printed 1 WHF/PLA and 1 PALF/PLA acoustic panels achieve a maximum α (α-max) of 0.55 and 0.83 at 5000 and 4000 Hz, respectively, featuring the first work to report α-max > 0.5 at low fiber loadings in the high-frequency sound range. The tensile strength of the 3D-printed versions is significantly higher than non-3D-printed counterparts and commercial acoustic absorbers. Our data suggest the prepared 3D-printed panels are excellent candidates for acoustic applications at high-frequency noises. This study exhibits a facile, environmentally benign and sustainable approach to construct highly efficient and mechanically robust biopolymer-based 3D-printed sound-proof panels, which have promising potential as green engineering materials. Interestingly, this research also proposes a mitigation technology for the freshwater invader, Eichhornia crassipes (water hyacinths).

Abstract

Nanotechnology has applications in a variety of scientific specialties, encompassing health, technological devices, and now cosmetics under the generic term of nanocosmetics. Due to the improved particle qualities, such as color, transparency, and solubility, acquired at the nanoscale, nanotechnology significantly affects the cosmetic industry. Skin penetration mechanism depends heavily on the nanoparticles’ physicochemical properties, including stiffness, hydrophobicity, size, and charge. An expanding industry that requires more research and development has been created by nanoparticle production technologies. Liposomes, solid lipid nanoparticles, cubosomes, dendrimers, and other nanomaterials offer advanced skincare properties. Cosmetics made using nanotechnology have the advantages of product diversity, increased bioavailability of active compounds, and enhanced pleasing appearance of cosmetics with long-lasting benefits. The various cosmetic brands’ utilization of various types of nanomaterials in their products is highlighted in this review.

Abstract

Optimising the use of resources through scientific methods is critical for efficiency and accurate pricing in the logistics industry. Analytical techniques (AT) play a decisive role in providing such analytical solutions. This paper explores the use of Analytical Techniques for decision making in the Sri Lankan manufacturing logistics industry through a survey of practices in leading companies in the manufacturing logistics industry. The questionnaire focused on the familiarity of ATs and their use in the different logistics operations. The research reviewed and classified the different AT's most widely used in solving common logistics problems (LP). Closing the gap between the theory and practice of AT in the logistics industry was aimed at through this research, by offering areas in which the industry could successfully adopt appropriate ATs. In this respect, different ATs in seven selected logistics decisions, regularly made in manufacturing firms, were discussed. The current practice in ATs was captured by interviewing leading practitioners in the logistics industry, bringing together the reasons for these gaps and their suggestions for overcoming them. The findings of the research could open up exciting areas for future research on optimisation using ATs in manufacturing logistics.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is known to Sri Lanka from 1992. The distribution of the disease is increasing and large numbers of CL cases are reported from Hambantota district. This study was focused on selected clinical features and socio-demographic factors of CL positive patients in Hambantota district and this information were collected using a questionnaire from CL suspected patients who attended to the Tangalle Hospital from June, 2016 to January, 2017. For selecting the CL positivity, slit skin smears were obtained from lesions of suspected patients. These smears were stained and examined for Leishmania amastigotes. Abstract

The spin-structure functions g1 and g2, and the spin-dependent partial cross-section σTT have been extracted from the polarized cross-sections differences, Δσ∥(ν,Q2) and Δσ⊥(ν,Q2) measured for the He3→(e→,e′)X reaction, in the E97-110 experiment at Jefferson Lab. Polarized electrons with energies from 1.147 to 4.404 GeV were scattered at angles of 6∘ and 9∘ from a longitudinally or transversely polarized 3He target. The data cover the kinematic regions of the quasi-elastic, resonance production and beyond. From the extracted spin-structure functions, the first moments Γ1‾(Q2), Γ2(Q2) and ITT(Q2) are evaluated with high precision for the neutron in the Q2 range from 0.035 to 0.24GeV2. The comparison of the data and the chiral effective field theory predictions reveals the importance of proper treatment of the Δ degree of freedom for spin observables.

Abstract

BackgroundMorbid jealousy is a relatively common and disabling mental health entity. Psychological theories suggest experiences of being cheated-on in previous relationships and childhood experience of parents having or being accused of having extramarital relationships as aetiological factors of morbid jealousy. However this has not been studied adequately. MethodA retrospective case control study was conducted based on clinical records of patients admitted to the psychiatric unit in a tertiary care hospital in Sri Lanka over a 14 month period. Patients with morbid jealousy were considered as cases and those admitted with other psychiatric diagnoses were considered as controls. ResultsOf 2708 patients, 131 (4.8%) were identified to have morbid jealousy. In patients with morbid jealousy, a majority were males, average age was 42.8 years and schizophrenia was the commonest diagnosis. There was a statistical significant association between morbid jealousy and past experiences of being cheated-on or childhood experiences of parents having or being accused of having extra-marital relationships. DiscussionMorbid jealousy was a common presentation. The significant association between morbid jealousy and above experiences could be due to a true association, recall or interpretation bias by patients with morbid jealousy, or more diligent exploration by clinicians when it comes to patient with morbid jealousy. Except for the last explanation, this association has treatment implications.

Abstract

Burkholderia cepacia complex (BCC) is an opportunistic pathogen in immunocompromised patients and well distributed in the natural environment. Nosocomial outbreaks of BCC are due to contaminated solutions and medical devices. However, in Sri Lanka, there have been no nosocomial outbreaks of BCC reported in the past. We report here an outbreak investigation of bacteraemia due to BCC in the wards and ICUs of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL) during the period of August 14th 2017 to September 13th 2017 which an extensive investigation traced to a contaminated nebulizer solution of a particular brand of ipratropium bromide. The blood culture isolates from the patients with bacteraemia and from the particular nebulizer solution were found to be identical and confirmed as BCC. There had been outbreaks in other hospitals with the same organism in the recent past but they were not able to find the common source for the outbreak. The incident was reported officially to the relevant authorities and other hospitals, and an alternative agent for the use of nebulization was strongly recommended to prevent further cases immediately.

13. Evaluation of the Potential of Fungal Acid Proteases of Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger and Penicillium sp. to Produce Shrimp-Waste Protein Hydrolysates with Degraded Antigenic Proteins

Abstract

The waste produced by the shrimp industry can be a great source for the recovery of important bioactive compounds with potential applications in food industry. The present study aimed to characterize extracted proteases of Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger and Penicillium sp. to be utilized as potential sources to produce shrimp waste protein hydrolysates with degraded antigenic proteins. The extracellular fungal acid protease enzymes were extracted under solid substrate fermentation and partially characterized the enzyme activities, concerning the reaction temperature and pH of the reaction medium. Then, the capabilities of extracted fungal protease enzymes to reduce the potential allergens of shrimp waste protein hydrolysates were examined by SDS-PAGE. After incubation of all three fungal species at 37°C and pH 3.0 for 5 days, the highest protease yield, 527.40 μg/mL was achieved from A. flavus. The optimum temperature for A. flavus for the highest protease activity was 45°C, while for other two microorganisms the optimum temperature was 50°C. The optimum pH values for all three proteases were pH 3. According to the SDS-PAGE protein hydrolyzing patterns, the crude acid protease extracted from A. flavus was the best protease to degrade the potential antigenic proteins over the other two acid proteases extracted from A.niger and Penicillium sp., while all three enzymes had shown the potential to reduce the allergenic capacity of shrimp waste proteins through enzymatic hydrolysis.

Abstract

We report the first measurement of the (e,e′p) reaction cross-section ratios for Helium-3 (He3), Tritium (H3), and Deuterium (d). The measurement covered a missing momentum range of 40≤pmiss≤550MeV/c, at large momentum transfer (〈Q2〉≈1.9 (GeV/c)2) and xB>1, which minimized contributions from non quasi-elastic (QE) reaction mechanisms. The data is compared with plane-wave impulse approximation (PWIA) calculations using realistic spectral functions and momentum distributions. The measured and PWIA-calculated cross-section ratios for He3/d and H3/d extend to just above the typical nucleon Fermi-momentum (kF≈250 MeV/c) and differ from each other by ∼20%, while for He3/H3 they agree within the measurement accuracy of about 3%. At momenta above kF, the measured He3/H3 ratios differ from the calculation by 20%−50%. Final state interaction (FSI) calculations using the generalized Eikonal Approximation indicate that FSI should change the He3/H3 cross-section ratio for this measurement by less than 5%. If these calculations are correct, then the differences at large missing momenta between the He3/H3 experimental and calculated ratios could be due to the underlying NN interaction, and thus could provide new constraints on the previously loosely-constrained short-distance parts of the NN interaction.

Abstract

BackgroundChild maltreatment is increasingly being recognized as an important public health issue in` Sri Lanka. Most public knowledge in Sri Lanka on this issue, and direction for public policy, originate from mass media, which may sensationalise the issue.AimsThis paper evaluates the themes and major discourses present in Sri Lankan print media on child abuse, and aims to determine if content, style and frequency of these news items have been affected by the tragic child abuse-murder incidents in 2015.MethodsArticles on child abuse and their readers’ comments were manually selected from the websites of the two daily newspapers with highest readership in Sri Lanka during two 3-month periods, before and after the above mentioned incidents. A combination of qualitative and quantitative methods were used to analyze the findings.ResultsThe number of articles relating to child abuse increased significantly from 0.6% to 5% of the total articles reviewed in the two periods. The focus of the articles changed from merely reporting facts and highlighting the evil nature of child abuse perpetrators, to inefficiency of law enforcement authorities in finding and punishing perpetrators. Readership and online comments on these articles increased significantly in the post-incident period. Capital punishment for perpetrators was suggested by many readers in the post-incident period.ConclusionThe Sri Lankan public is very sensitive to news on child abuse with formation of firm, at times extreme, viewpoints on how to manage this issue. Thus responsible and accurate depiction of child abuse by the media is important.

Abstract

It is made available under a Creative Commons (CC BY 4.0) Attribution License. This article presents a collection of simulation studies using the ECCE detector concept in the context of the EIC's exclusive, diffractive, and tagging physics program, which aims to further explore the rich quark–gluon structure of nucleons and nuclei. To successfully execute the program, ECCE proposed to utilize the detector system close to the beamline to ensure exclusivity and tag ion beam/fragments for a particular reaction of interest. Preliminary studies confirm the proposed technology and design satisfy the requirements. The projected physics impact results are based on the projected detector performance from the simulation at 10 or 100 fb−1 of integrated luminosity. Additionally, insights related to a potential second EIC detector are documented, which could serve as a guidepost for future development. Abstract

Dye-sensitized solid-state solar cells (DSSCs) replacing the liquid electrolyte with a p-type semiconductor have been extensively examined to solve the practical problems associated with wet-type solar cells. Here, we report the fabrication of a solid-state solar cell using copper iodide (CuI) as the hole conductor and alkyl-functionalized carbazole dye (MK-2) as the sensitizer. A DSSC sensitized with MK-2 showed a solar-to-electrical power conversion efficiency of 3.33% with a Voc of 496 mV and a Jsc of 16.14 mA cm-2 under AM 1.5 simulated sunlight. The long alkyl chains act as a barrier for charge recombination, and the strong accepting and donating abilities of the cyanoacrylic and carbazole groups, respectively, enhance the absorption of light at a longer wavelength, increasing the short-circuit current density. The efficiency recorded in this work is higher than similar DSSCs based on other hole collectors.

Abstract

We performed feasibility studies for various single transverse spin measurements that are related to the Sivers effect, transversity and the tensor charge, and the Collins fragmentation function. The processes studied include semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) where single hadrons (pions and kaons) were detected in addition to the scattered DIS lepton. The data were obtained in {\sc pythia}6 and {\sc geant}4 simulated e+p collisions at 18 GeV on 275 GeV, 18 on 100, 10 on 100, and 5 on 41 that use the ECCE detector configuration. Typical DIS kinematics were selected, most notably $Q^2 > 1 $ GeV$^2$, and cover the $x$ range from $10^{-4}$ to $1$. The single spin asymmetries were extracted as a function of $x$ and $Q^2$, as well as the semi-inclusive variables $z$, and $P_T$. They are obtained in azimuthal moments in combinations of the azimuthal angles of the hadron transverse momentum and transverse spin of the nucleon relative to the lepton scattering plane. The initially unpolarized MonteCarlo was re-weighted in the true kinematic variables, hadron types and parton flavors based on global fits of fixed target SIDIS experiments and $e^+e^-$ annihilation data. The expected statistical precision of such measurements is extrapolated to 10 fb$^{-1}$ and potential systematic uncertainties are approximated given the deviations between true and reconstructed yields. The impact on the knowledge of the Sivers functions, transversity and tensor charges, and the Collins function has then been evaluated in the same phenomenological extractions as in the Yellow Report. The impact is found to be comparable to that obtained with the parameterized Yellow Report detector and shows that the ECCE detector configuration can fulfill the physics goals on these quantities., 22 pages, 22 figures, to be submitted to joint ECCE proposal NIM-A volume

Abstract

We have performed precision measurements of the double-spin virtual-photon asymmetry A1 on the neutron in the deep inelastic scattering regime, using an open-geometry, large-acceptance spectrometer and a longitudinally and transversely polarized 3He target. Our data cover a wide kinematic range 0.277≤x≤0.548 at an average Q2 value of 3.078 (GeV/c)2, doubling the available high-precision neutron data in this x range. We have combined our results with world data on proton targets to make a leading-order extraction of the ratio of polarized-to-unpolarized parton distribution functions for up quarks and for down quarks in the same kinematic range. Our data are consistent with a previous observation of an A1n zero crossing near x=0.5. We find no evidence of a transition to a positive slope in (Δd+Δd¯)/(d+d¯) up to x=0.548. Abstract

A global health concern has emerged as a response to the recent SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. The identification and inhibition of drug targets of SARS-CoV-2 is a decisive obligation of scientists. In addition to the cell entry mechanism, SARS-CoV-2 expresses a complicated replication mechanism that provides excellent drug targets. Papain-like protease (PLpro) and 3-chymotrypsin-like protease (3CLpro) play a vital role in polyprotein processing, producing functional non-structural proteins essential for viral replication and survival in the host cell. Moreover, PLpro is employed by SARS-CoV-2 for reversing host immune responses. Therefore, if some particular compound has the potential to interfere with the proteolytic activities of 3CLpro and PLpro of SARS-CoV-2, it may be effective as a treatment or prophylaxis for COVID-19, reducing viral load, and reinstating innate immune responses. Thus, the present study aims to inhibit SARS-CoV-2 through 3CLpro and PLpro using marine natural products isolated from marine algae that contain numerous beneficial biological activities. Molecular docking analysis was utilized in the present study for the initial screening of selected natural products depending on their 3CLpro and PLpro structures. Based on this approach, Ishophloroglucin A (IPA), Dieckol, Eckmaxol, and Diphlorethohydroxycarmalol (DPHC) were isolated and used to perform in vitro evaluations. IPA presented remarkable inhibitory activity against interesting drug targets. Moreover, Dieckol, Eckmaxol, and DPHC also expressed significant potential as inhibitors. Finally, the results of the present study confirm the potential of IPA, Dieckol, Eckmaxol, and DPHC as inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2. Abstract

Innovations enable organizations to introduce novel products and services to its customers. However, within the Modern Trade Industry in Sri Lanka, firms deploy innovations, yet if that is influencing firms establish greater relationships with its customer’s, remains unclear. Similarly, firms focus greatly upon consumer-based brand equity within the modern trade industry but there are no sufficient empirical studies to confirm the contribution of innovation for enhancing consumer based brand equity in modern trade environment. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the innovation on consumer based brand equity in modern trade sector in Sri Lanka. Literature suggests that concept of innovation is formed using innovative outcomes and innovative planning. Hence authors used these two dimensions that form innovation as independent variables to determine the consumer-based brand equity. The research was designed as quantitative research based on positivist paradigm and data were collected through a survey. Accordingly, 280 self-administered questionnaires, were obtained from respondents who are modern trade consumers in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The collected data were analyzed by using both descriptive and inferential statistics tools. PLS-SEM was employed as the main measurement model for testing hypothesis by using Smart-PLS 3 as the main analytical software. The findings revealed that innovation as an outcome and innovative planning, both can significantly influence upon consumer-based brand equity. Hence, authors suggest management of modern trade retailers to develop innovative technology driven retail platform to provide pleasant shopping experience to the customers with the purpose of improving consumer-based brand equity. Authors suggests future researches to investigate the impact of leadership on the implementation of innovations within the modern trade retailers in Sri Lankan context.

Abstract

Over the past few years, synthetic dye-contaminated wastewater has attracted considerable global attention due to the low biodegradability and the ability of organic dyes to persist and remain toxic, causing numerous health and environmental concerns. As a result of the recalcitrant nature of those complex organic dyes, the remediation of wastewater using conventional wastewater treatment techniques is becoming increasingly challenging. In recent years, advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) have emerged as a potential alternative to treat organic dyestuffs discharged from industries. The most widely employed AOPs include photocatalysis, ozonation, Fenton oxidation, electrochemical oxidation, catalytic heterogeneous oxidation, and ultrasound irradiation. These processes involve the generation of highly reactive radicals to oxidize organic dyes into innocuous minerals. However, many conventional AOPs suffer from several setbacks, including the high cost, high consumption of reagents and substrates, self-agglomeration of catalysts, limited reusability, and the requirement of light, ultrasound, or electricity. Therefore, there has been significant interest in improving the performance of conventional AOPs using biopolymers and heterogeneous catalysts such as metal oxide nanoparticles (MONPs). Biopolymers have been widely considered in developing green, sustainable, eco-friendly, and low-cost AOP-based dye removal technologies. They inherit intriguing properties like biodegradability, renewability, nontoxicity, relative abundance, and sorption. In addition, the immobilization of catalysts on biopolymer supports has been proven to possess excellent catalytic activity and turnover numbers. The current review provides comprehensive coverage of different AOPs and how efficiently biopolymers, including cellulose, chitin, chitosan, alginate, gelatin, guar gum, keratin, silk fibroin, zein, albumin, lignin, and starch, have been integrated with heterogeneous AOPs in dye removal applications. This review also discusses the general degradation mechanisms of AOPs, applications of biopolymers in AOPs and the roles of biopolymers in AOPs-based dye removal processes. Furthermore, key challenges and future perspectives of biopolymer-based AOPs have also been highlighted.

Abstract

The Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) is a cutting-edge accelerator facility that will study the nature of the "glue" that binds the building blocks of the visible matter in the universe. The proposed experiment will be realized at Brookhaven National Laboratory in approximately 10 years from now, with detector design and R&D currently ongoing. Notably, EIC is one of the first large-scale facilities to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) already starting from the design and R&D phases. The EIC Comprehensive Chromodynamics Experiment (ECCE) is a consortium that proposed a detector design based on a 1.5T solenoid. The EIC detector proposal review concluded that the ECCE design will serve as the reference design for an EIC detector. Herein we describe a comprehensive optimization of the ECCE tracker using AI. The work required a complex parametrization of the simulated detector system. Our approach dealt with an optimization problem in a multidimensional design space driven by multiple objectives that encode the detector performance, while satisfying several mechanical constraints. We describe our strategy and show results obtained for the ECCE tracking system. The AI-assisted design is agnostic to the simulation framework and can be extended to other sub-detectors or to a system of sub-detectors to further optimize the performance of the EIC detector., 16 pages, 18 figures, 2 appendices, 3 tables

There are a significant number of software and computing challenges that need to be overcome at the EIC. During the EIC detector proposal development period, the ECCE consortium began identifying and addressing these challenges in the process of producing a complete detector proposal based upon detailed detector and physics simulations. In this document, the software and computing efforts to produce this proposal are discussed; furthermore, the computing and software model and resources required for the future of ECCE are described. Abstract

Exclusive heavy quarkonium photoproduction is one of the most popular processes in EIC, which has a large cross section and a simple final state. Due to the gluonic nature of the exchange Pomeron, this process can be related to the gluon distributions in the nucleus. The momentum transfer dependence of this process is sensitive to the interaction sites, which provides a powerful tool to probe the spatial distribution of gluons in the nucleus. Recently the problem of the origin of hadron mass has received lots of attention in determining the anomaly contribution $M_{a}$. The trace anomaly is sensitive to the gluon condensate, and exclusive production of quarkonia such as J/$\psi$ and $\Upsilon$ can serve as a sensitive probe to constrain it. In this paper, we present the performance of the ECCE detector for exclusive J/$\psi$ detection and the capability of this process to investigate the above physics opportunities with ECCE., Comment: 11 pages, 14 figures, 1 table

Abstract

The ratio of the nucleon F_{2} structure functions, F_{2}^{n}/F_{2}^{p}, is determined by the MARATHON experiment from measurements of deep inelastic scattering of electrons from ^{3}H and ^{3}He nuclei. The experiment was performed in the Hall A Facility of Jefferson Lab using two high-resolution spectrometers for electron detection, and a cryogenic target system which included a low-activity tritium cell. The data analysis used a novel technique exploiting the mirror symmetry of the two nuclei, which essentially eliminates many theoretical uncertainties in the extraction of the ratio. The results, which cover the Bjorken scaling variable range 0.19x0.83, represent a significant improvement compared to previous SLAC and Jefferson Lab measurements for the ratio. They are compared to recent theoretical calculations and empirical determinations of the F_{2}^{n}/F_{2}^{p} ratio.

Biodegradation is the most viable alternative for numerous health and environmental issues associated with non-biodegradable materials. In recent years, there has been considerable interest in biodegradable nanomaterials due to their relative abundance, environmental benignity, low cost, easy use, and tunable properties. This chapter covers an overview of biodegradation, factors and challenges associated with biodegradation processes, involvement of nanotechnology and nanomaterials in biodegradation, and biodegradable nanomaterials. Furthermore, current chapter extensively discusses the most recent applications of biodegradable nanomaterials that have recently been explored in the areas of food packaging, energy, environmental remediation, and nanomedicine. Overall, this chapter provides a synopsis of how the involvement of nanotechnology would benefit the process of biodegradation.

Abstract

Cinnamomum zeylanicum Blume is an endemic Sri Lankan species commonly known as Ceylon cinnamon or true cinnamon. It is considered the king of spices in addition to its medicinal benefits. Despite recent scientific evidence on its medicinal properties and the industrial demand, cinnamon breeding and crop improvement are not been improved to the expectation. It is mainly due to the limited availability of the genomic information of cinnamon, linked with technical challenges caused by abundant secondary metabolites in all plant parts. Therefore, obtaining high-quality RNA is the fundamental step of transcriptomic analysis and the gene discovery process of cinnamon. We have optimized a CTAB based protocol for high-quality RNA extraction from different cinnamon tissues at various maturity stages collected from the field. Regular pH around 8 and the presence of Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) in CTAB buffer increased the viscosity of the cinnamon lysate. Adjusting the pH of the lysis buffer to 6–6.5 reduced the viscosity of lysate while chloroform precipitates protein efficiently at the adjusted pH with no phenol. Therefore, this protocol excludes PVP and phenol extraction steps. Nanodrop spectrophotometer, gel electrophoresis, and bioanalyzer readings confirmed the quality of extracted RNA. RNA-seq libraries prepared were sequenced with Illumina Sequencing by synthesis technology and obtained good quality data to be used for transcriptomic analysis. The 5G era currently dawned upon the world has broadened the scope significantly from the previous generations by creating a space for multitude of advanced technologies integration and seamless delivery of many wireless services from many different domains. Two of the key areas that already started to have a huge impact by capabilities of 5G are cloud computing and Internet of Things (IoT). A fully-fledged 5G environment will also leverage cloud resource access to cater the promising low-latency, high reliability and network efficiency. There are various challenges to fully utilize the 5G architecture to cater the unprecedented amount of applications with the effective integration of cloud. Numerous researches have conducted studies with focus on different aspects of cloud for exploring what solutions would suite the best. The low latency requirement of 5G has been a major challenge to fulfill and several researches have proposed a wide variety of state-of-the-art solutions that could immensely contribute to overcoming this challenge. Content caching in cloud and clock synchronization are two of the hot topics among many researches and we believe solutions incorporated by these can revolutionize the way 5G environments are built that can easily meet the IoT demands. This paper will conduct a comprehensive review on 7 best research papers that have specifically focused on content caching and clock synchronization to meet the stringent low-latency requirement of 5G networks. This review presents set of state-of-the-art research solutions with content caching and clock synchronization approaches that are available to build a more coherent and resilient 5G architecture design to meet the low-latency constraints very effectively for IoT devices and smart applications.

Abstract

Background: Childhood obesity is one of the most serious public health challenges of the 21st century. Overweight and obese children are at higher risk for developing long-term chronic diseases. With globalization and changing lifestyles, adolescents are exposed to multiple risk factors apart from hereditary risk factors. Obesity and overweight are two such risk factors, early diagnosis which are important to prevent complications associated with them. Objective: To determine the prevalence and associated factors of childhood overweight and obesity among children 5–15 year of age group and to describe certain socio – demographic characteristics related to overweight and obese children. Material and Methods: A Descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 5-15-year-old children from Gampaha District who attended the Nutritional Clinic and Pediatric Unit between December 2015 and June 2016. Those who had Body Mass Index (BMI) above 85 th centile for age and gender were included to the study. Children with any chronic illness were excluded from the study. Results: A total of 116 children were included. The prevalence rates of overweight and obesity were 75.5% and 21.8% respectively. Prevalence of central obesity was more in female than male. Waist-hip ratio (WHR) and waist height ratio (WHtR) exhibited an age-dependent decrease for both genders. 23.2% of overweight and 28.6% obese children were found to have either their systolic BP (SBP) or diastolic BP (DBP) more than 95 th percentile. Conclusion: Overweight/obesity was found to be moderately prevalent in this study. There was strong a association with hypertension, Timely identification and control of overweight/obesity is required for prevention of development of adverse health outcome associated with these risk factors.

Abstract

We report the first measurement of the (e,e^{'}p) three-body breakup reaction cross sections in helium-3 (^{3}He) and tritium (^{3}H) at large momentum transfer [⟨Q^{2}⟩≈1.9 (GeV/c)^{2}] and x_{B}1 kinematics, where the cross section should be sensitive to quasielastic (QE) scattering from single nucleons. The data cover missing momenta 40≤p_{miss}≤500 MeV/c that, in the QE limit with no rescattering, equals the initial momentum of the probed nucleon. The measured cross sections are compared with state-of-the-art ab initio calculations. Overall good agreement, within ±20%, is observed between data and calculations for the full p_{miss} range for ^{3}H and for 100≤p_{miss}≤350 MeV/c for ^{3}He. Including the effects of rescattering of the outgoing nucleon improves agreement with the data at p_{miss}250 MeV/c and suggests contributions from charge-exchange (SCX) rescattering. The isoscalar sum of ^{3}He plus ^{3}H, which is largely insensitive to SCX, is described by calculations to within the accuracy of the data over the entire p_{miss} range. This validates current models of the ground state of the three-nucleon system up to very high initial nucleon momenta of 500 MeV/c.

Abstract

BackgroundChild maltreatment is increasingly being recognized as an important public health issue in` Sri Lanka. Most public knowledge in Sri Lanka on this issue, and direction for public policy, originate from mass media, which may sensationalise the issue.AimsThis paper evaluates the themes and major discourses present in Sri Lankan print media on child abuse, and aims to determine if content, style and frequency of these news items have been affected by the tragic child abuse-murder incidents in 2015.MethodsArticles on child abuse and their readers’ comments were manually selected from the websites of the two daily newspapers with highest readership in Sri Lanka during two 3-month periods, before and after the above mentioned incidents. A combination of qualitative and quantitative methods were used to analyze the findings.ResultsThe number of articles relating to child abuse increased significantly from 0.6% to 5% of the total articles reviewed in the two periods. The focus of the articles changed from merely reporting facts and highlighting the evil nature of child abuse perpetrators, to inefficiency of law enforcement authorities in finding and punishing perpetrators. Readership and online comments on these articles increased significantly in the post-incident period. Capital punishment for perpetrators was suggested by many readers in the post-incident period.ConclusionThe Sri Lankan public is very sensitive to news on child abuse with formation of firm, at times extreme, viewpoints on how to manage this issue. Thus responsible and accurate depiction of child abuse by the media is important.

Abstract

New results are reported from a measurement of π^{0} electroproduction near threshold using the p(e,e^{'}p)π^{0} reaction. The experiment was designed to determine precisely the energy dependence of s- and p-wave electromagnetic multipoles as a stringent test of the predictions of chiral perturbation theory (ChPT). The data were taken with an electron beam energy of 1192 MeV using a two-spectrometer setup in Hall A at Jefferson Lab. For the first time, complete coverage of the ϕ_{π}^{*} and θ_{π}^{*} angles in the pπ^{0} center of mass was obtained for invariant energies above threshold from 0.5 up to 15 MeV. The 4-momentum transfer Q^{2} coverage ranges from 0.05 to 0.155 (GeV/c)^{2} in fine steps. A simple phenomenological analysis of our data shows strong disagreement with p-wave predictions from ChPT for Q^{2}0.07 (GeV/c)^{2}, while the s-wave predictions are in reasonable agreement.

Abstract

Double-spin asymmetries and absolute cross sections were measured at large Bjorken x (0.25≤x≤0.90), in both the deep-inelastic and resonance regions, by scattering longitudinally polarized electrons at beam energies of 4.7 and 5.9 GeV from a transversely and longitudinally polarized (3)He target. In this dedicated experiment, the spin structure function g(2)((3)He) was determined with precision at large x, and the neutron twist-3 matrix element d(2)(n) was measured at ⟨Q(2)⟩ of 3.21 and 4.32 GeV(2)/c(2), with an absolute precision of about 10(-5). Our results are found to be in agreement with lattice QCD calculations and resolve the disagreement found with previous data at ⟨Q(2)⟩=5 GeV(2)/c(2). Combining d(2)(n) and a newly extracted twist-4 matrix element f(2)(n), the average neutron color electric and magnetic forces were extracted and found to be of opposite sign and about 30 MeV/fm in magnitude.

Abstract

The ratio of the proton's elastic electromagnetic form factors was obtained by measuring the transverse and longitudinal polarizations of recoiling protons from the elastic scattering of polarized electrons with unpolarized protons. The ratio of the electric to magnetic form factor is proportional to the ratio of the transverse to longitudinal recoil polarizations. The ratio was measured over a range of four-momentum transfer squared between 0.5 and 3.5 GeV-squared. Simultaneous measurement of transverse and longitudinal polarizations in a polarimeter provides good control of the systematic uncertainty. The results for the ratio of the proton's electric to magnetic form factors show a systematic decrease with increasing four momentum squared, indicating for the first time a marked difference in the spatial distribution of charge and magnetization currents in the proton.
