Abstract: Recent discoveries of Earth-sized planets transiting nearby M dwarfs have made it possible to characterize the atmospheres of terrestrial planets via follow-up spectroscopic observations. However, the number of such planets receiving low insolation is still small, limiting our ability to understand the diversity of the atmospheric composition and climates of temperate terrestrial planets. We report the discovery of an Earth-sized planet transiting the nearby (12 pc) inactive M3.0 dwarf Gliese 12 (TOI-6251) with an orbital period ($P_{\rm{orb}}$) of 12.76 days. The planet, Gliese 12b, was initially identified as a candidate with an ambiguous $P_{\rm{orb}}$ from TESS data. We confirmed the transit signal and $P_{\rm{orb}}$ using ground-based photometry with MuSCAT2 and MuSCAT3, and validated the planetary nature of the signal using high-resolution images from Gemini/NIRI and Keck/NIRC2 as well as radial velocity (RV) measurements from the InfraRed Doppler instrument on the Subaru 8.2 m telescope and from CARMENES on the CAHA 3.5 m telescope. X-ray observations with XMM-Newton showed the host star is inactive, with an X-ray-to-bolometric luminosity ratio of $\log L_{\rm X}/L_{\rm bol} \approx -5.7$. Joint analysis of the light curves and RV measurements revealed that Gliese 12b has a radius of 0.96 $\pm$ 0.05 $R_\oplus$, a 3$\sigma$ mass upper limit of 3.9 $M_\oplus$, and an equilibrium temperature of 315 $\pm$ 6 K assuming zero albedo. The transmission spectroscopy metric (TSM) value of Gliese 12b is close to the TSM values of the TRAPPIST-1 planets, adding Gliese 12b to the small list of potentially terrestrial, temperate planets amenable to atmospheric characterization with JWST., Comment: 29 pages (20 pages in main body), 13 figures (10 figures in main body). 3. Development of a Tool to Calculate the Preventive Maintenance Interval Using a Semi-Markovian Model Including a Degraded State

Abstract: Abstract This study aims to develop a tool that calculates the optimal preventive maintenance interval when the income from the operation of an asset changes. The income can be modified by market disturbances or by the decrease in the efficiency of the asset due to its degradation. A system with four states is designed to model the operation and maintenance process: operational, corrective, preventive, and degraded operation is mathematically modeled. The system evolves over time, according to a semi-Markovian process. The transitions and sojourn times between each state produce the accumulation of costs and income as returns (negative or positive) in a variable called average accumulated return. The average accumulated return is defined by a system of difference equations that are solved by applying the z-transform. The solution is a function that is dependent on the preventive interval. By derivation, the mathematical expression of the optimal preventive interval that maximizes the average accumulated return is obtained. From this expression, it can be deduced that the size of the optimal preventive interval is directly affected by the income from the asset operation. Higher income increases the size and lower income decreases it. For this reason, the maintenance manager must observe the changesoccuring in the income from the use of his equipment in order to optimize his management economically.

Abstract: We report the gravitational microlensing discovery of a sub-Saturn mass planet, MOA-2009-BLG-319Lb, orbiting a K or M-dwarf star in the inner Galactic disk or Galactic bulge. The high cadence observations of the MOA-II survey discovered this microlensing event and enabled its identification as a high magnification event approximately 24 hours prior to peak magnification. As a result, the planetary signal at the peak of this light curve was observed by 20 different telescopes, which is the largest number of telescopes to contribute to a planetary discovery to date. The microlensing model for this event indicates a planet-star mass ratio of q = (3.95 +/- 0.02) x 10^{-4} and a separation of d = 0.97537 +/- 0.00007 in units of the Einstein radius. A Bayesian analysis based on the measured Einstein radius crossing time, t_E, and angular Einstein radius, \theta_E, along with a standard Galactic model indicates a host star mass of M_L = 0.38^{+0.34}_{-0.18} M_{Sun} and a planet mass of M_p = 50^{+44}_{-24} M_{Earth}, which is half the mass of Saturn. This analysis also yields a planet-star three-dimensional separation of a = 2.4^{+1.2}_{-0.6} AU and a distance to the planetary system of D_L = 6.1^{+1.1}_{-1.2} kpc. Abstract: Aims. We report the first detailed X-ray study of the supernova remnant (SNR) G304.6+0.1, achieved with the XMM-Newton mission. Methods. The powerful imaging capability of XMM-Newton was used to study the X-ray characteristics of the remnant at different energy ranges. The X-ray morphology and spectral properties were analyzed. In addittion, radio and mid-infrared data obtained with the Molonglo Observatory Synthesis Telescope and the Spitzer Space Telescope were used to study the association with the detected X-ray emission and to understand the structure of the SNR at differents wavelengths. Results. The SNR shows an extended and arc-like internal structure in the X-ray band with out a compact point-like source inside the remnant. We find a high column density of NH in the range 2.5-3.5x1022 cm-2, which supports a relatively distant location (d $\geq$ 9.7 kpc). The X-ray spectrum exhibits at least three emission lines, indicating that the X-ray emission has a thin thermal plasma origin, although a non-thermal contribution cannot be discarded. The spectra of three different regions (north, center and south) are well represented by a combination of a non-equilibrium ionization (PSHOCK) and a power-law (PL) model. The mid-infrared observations show a bright filamentary structure along the north-south direction coincident with the NW radio shell. This suggests that Kes 17 is propagating in a non-uniform environment with high density and that the shock front is interacting with several adjacent massive molecular clouds. The good correspondence of radio and mid-infrared emissions suggests that the filamentary features are caused by shock compression. The X-ray characteristics and well-known radio parameters indicate that G304.6+0.1 is a middle-aged SNR (2.8-6.4)x104 yr old and a new member of the recently proposed group of mixed-morphology SNRs., Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures; Accepted for publication in Astronomy & Astrophysics

Abstract: Introduction: Herpesvirus infections have been highlighted as emerging diseases affecting wildlife health and the conservation of several taxa. Malignant catarrhal fever (MCF) and infectious keratoconjunctivitis (IKC) are two viruses that infect wild ruminants. Nevertheless, epidemiological data on herpesviruses in South American wild ruminants are limited. An outbreak of caprine gammaherpesvirus-2 (CpHV-2) that recently was suspected as the cause of MCF in southern pudus (Pudu puda) prompted the need to conduct molecular screenings in Chilean cervids to understand the epidemiology of herpesviruses. The aim of this study was to determine the occurrence and genetic diversity of herpesviruses in free-ranging cervids from Chile. Methods: Herpesvirus infection was assessed in antemortem blood samples (n = 86) from pudus (n = 81) and huemuls (Hippocamelus bisulcus) (n = 5), as well as postmortem samples of spleen (n = 24) and lung (n = 3) from pudus, using a nested pan-herpesvirus PCR assay. Results: Combining all suitable sample types, DNA of pudu gammaherpesvirus-1 was detected in five pudues and five huemuls, with an overall prevalence of 9.90% (n = 10/101; 95% CI = 5.11-17.87%). One pudu tested positive for ovine gammaherpesvirus-2 (n = 1/96; 1.04%; 95% CI = 0.05-6.49%), and one pudu tested positive for a Macavirus sequence with 98.63 similarity to ovine gammaherpesvirus-2 (n = 96; 1.04%; 95% CI = 0.05-6.49%). Discussion: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a herpesvirus in huemul and of ovine gammaherpesvirus-2 in Chile. Our results also confirm the active circulation of herpesvirus in free-ranging cervids in Chilean Patagonia, and as such, MCF should be considered as a possible cause of disease in free-ranging Chilean pudus and livestock species. Further research is necessary to develop a plan of systematicmonitoring (serological and pathological screening) of herpesviruses in Chilean wild and domestic ruminants to understand their diversity and impact on animal health and conservation. Abstract: When initial sample information falls short of enabling industrial engineers to confidently make decisions about lot quality assessment, repetitive sampling emerges as a solution. In this study, we present an optimized repetitive sampling control chart for X-bar values. Through meticulous analysis, we determined the optimal control chart coefficients. Additionally, we established the control chart parameters for scenarios where the sample size equals the average sample number, encompassing both in-control and out-of-control processes. To underscore the effectiveness of our proposed chart compared to the traditional Shewhart control chart, we provide comprehensive tables across various sample sizes. Abstract: Workplace violence is present in many work sectors, but in the area of mental health, nurses have a higher risk due to the close relationship they have with users. This study analyzed hostile user statements against nursing professionals of Mental Health Services and Emergency Units in Health Service (MHS) hospitals in Murcia, Spain, and determined the frequency of exposure to the different violent user behaviors. The study was carried out with a sample of 518 nursing professionals from four hospital services: Mental Health, Emergency Units, Medical Hospitalization, and Maternal-and-Child. The nursing staff of Mental Health and Emergency Units was the most exposed to violence. Non-physical violence was more frequent in Emergency Units, whereas physical violence was more frequent in Mental Health. Among the consequences of exposure to non-physical violence are workers’ emotional exhaustion and the presence of psychological distress.

Abstract: Novel in-memory computing circuits, based on arrays of emerging nonvolatile memories, such as the phase-change memory (PCM), can boost cutting-edge performances of artificial intelligent applications. However, the spread of PCM-based circuits is currently hindered by the lack of a design framework enabling fast, efficient, and low-power neural networks. In this work, a novel approach to the conceptual and technical design of integrated neural networks is proposed. In particular, to relax the power hunger and complexity of state-of-the-art solutions, we propose a fully analog computing approach where the analog-to-digital converter (ADC) is replaced by a simple comparator. The analog building blocks of the accelerator are presented and validated in Cadence Virtuoso. Abstract: The swift progress in the study field of human-computer interaction (HCI) causes to increase in the interest in systems for Speech emotion recognition (SER). The speech Emotion Recognition System is the system that can identify the emotional states of human beings from their voice. There are well works in Speech Emotion Recognition for different language but few researches have implemented for Arabic SER systems and that because of the shortage of available Arabic speech emotion databases. The most commonly considered languages for SER is English and other European and Asian languages. Several machine learning-based classifiers that have been used by researchers to distinguish emotional classes: SVMs, RFs, and the KNN algorithm, hidden Markov models (HMMs), MLPs and deep learning. In this paper we propose ASERS-LSTM model for Arabic Speech Emotion Recognition based on LSTM model. We extracted five features from the speech: Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) features, chromagram, Melscaled spectrogram, spectral contrast and tonal centroid features (tonnetz). We evaluated our model using Arabic speech dataset named Basic Arabic Expressive Speech corpus (BAES-DB). In addition of that we also construct a DNN for classify the Emotion and compare the accuracy between LSTM and DNN model. For DNN the accuracy is 93.34% and for LSTM is 96.81%.

19. ASERS-CNN: Arabic Speech Emotion Recognition System based on CNN Model

Abstract: When two people are on the phone, although they cannot observe the other person's facial expression and physiological state, it is possible to estimate the speaker's emotional state by voice roughly. In medical care, if the emotional state of a patient, especially a patient with an expression disorder, can be known, different care measures can be made according to the patient's mood to increase the amount of care. The system that capable for recognize the emotional states of human being from his speech is known as Speech emotion recognition system (SER). Deep learning is one of most technique that has been widely used in emotion recognition studies, in this paper we implement CNN model for Arabic speech emotion recognition. We propose ASERS-CNN model for Arabic Speech Emotion Recognition based on CNN model. We evaluated our model using Arabic speech dataset named Basic Arabic Expressive Speech corpus (BAES-DB). In addition of that we compare the accuracy between our previous ASERS-LSTM and new ASERS-CNN model proposed in this paper and we comes out that our new proposed mode is outperformed ASERS-LSTM model where it get 98.18% accuracy.

Abstract: Background Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was declared a pandemic by the WHO on 11 March 2020 and global surgical practice was compromised. This Commission aimed to document and reflect on the changes seen in the surgical environment during the pandemic, by reviewing colleagues’ experiences and published evidence. Methods In late 2020, BJS contacted colleagues across the global surgical community and asked them to describe how severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) had affected their practice. In addition to this, the Commission undertook a literature review on the impact of COVID-19 on surgery and perioperative care. A thematic analysis was performed to identify the issues most frequently encountered by the correspondents, as well as the solutions and ideas suggested to address them. Results BJS received communications for this Commission from leading clinicians and academics across a variety of surgical specialties in every inhabited continent. The responses from all over the world provided insights into multiple facets of surgical practice from a governmental level to individual clinical practice and training. Conclusion The COVID-19 pandemic has uncovered a variety of problems in healthcare systems, including negative impacts on surgical practice. Global surgical multidisciplinary teams are working collaboratively to address research questions about the future of surgery in the post-COVID-19 era. The COVID-19 pandemic is severely damaging surgical training. The establishment of a multidisciplinary ethics committee should be encouraged at all surgical oncology centres. Innovative leadership and collaboration is vital in the post-COVID-19 era.

Abstract: Planetary Nebulae (PNe) are the descendants of low- and intermediate-mass stars (0.8--8.0 M☉). The shape of the PN takes place at some point between the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) and the white dwarf (WD) stellar phases. Among the astrophysical phenomena, the PNe shows an impressive variety of complex morphologies. In fact, most of the PNe known are not spherical (more than 80%) and present shapes from slightly elliptical to bipolar (or multipolar), as well as knots and/or collimated outflows at high velocities, reaching 600 km s-1 in the most extreme cases. The aim of this thesis is to explore how binarity affects the evolution of low- and intermediate-mass stars during the PN phase. We started by looking for photometric data of the known central stars of PNe (CSPNe) in different databases (from the ultraviolet to the near-infrared) in order to search for a double spectral energy distribution (SED) composed by a hot-star (the ionizing star) and a cool companion star. We compiled a catalog of PNe by combining the coordinates PNe catalogs found in the literature, and matched them with the Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) database (GPNcat). The FUV and NUV photometry, included in GALEX, allow us to extract the hottest stellar objects, which are elusive in optical wavelengths due to its Teff and luminosity. We matched the GPNcat with Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and the Panoramic Survey and Rapid Response System (PanSTARRS) databases (GPNcatxSDSSDR14xPS1DR2), both providing five magnitudes in the optical range (SDSS ugriz and PS1 grizy). We separated the resolved PNe, with sizes (diameters) at least twice the resolution of GALEX, from unresolved PNe. For resolved PNe, the flux of the CS were isolated by using aperture photometry techniques. The final catalog, GPNcatxSDSSDR14xPS1DR2, contains 326 PNe with both UV and optical photometry of which 222 are resolved. Most of the PNe are not spherical, and current single-star models cannot explain the morphologies we observe. A binary interaction is the preferred channel to form non-spherical PNe. A fundamental step to corroborate this is to take a sample of PNe without discriminating the morphologies and analyze their CS. We search for spatially unresolved optical excess, by combining GALEX UV with optical SDSS and PS1 photometry, in a sample of 23 resolved CSPNe extracted from GPNcatxSDSSDR14xPS1DR2. We selected the PNe to be analyzed according to their colors in the color-color diagram and according with the accuracy of the match with its UV and optical counterparts. We have constructed a program to identify and characterize binary CSPNe based on the Markov-Chain Monte-Carlo (MCMC) method. We have characterized 11 binary CSPNe of which 7 are new binary CSPNe candidates. We constructed a grid of synthetic SED of PNe using the photoionization code CLOUDY, obtaining synthetic magnitudes in GALEX FUV and NUV, and SDSS and PS1 optical bands. We compared our model colors with other theoretical and observed colors for different astrophysical objects to identify the position of PNe in the color space. After identification of PNe in the color space, we added a cool companion to each model SEDs to identify PNe with binary CS. We found that GALEX FUV-NUV versus SDSS r-i and GALEX NUV-SDSS r versus SDSS r-i color-color diagrams are the best ones for cleanly separating PNe and PNe with binary CS from other astrophysical objects. Finally, as a particular case of study, we present an analysis of the binary central star of NGC 2346 based on archival data from the International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE), and new low- and high-resolution optical spectroscopic observations. By including the stellar and nebular continuum, we reconciled long-time discrepancy UV and optical diagnostics from the literature and derived E(B-V)=0.18±0.01. We classified the companion star's spectral type as A5IV by analyzing the wings of the Balmer absorption lines in the highresolution (R=67 000) optical spectra (3700-7300Å). Using the distance to the nebula of 1400 pc from Gaia DR2, we constructed a photoionization model based on abundances and line intensities derived from the low-resolution optical spectra to obtain the temperature (Teff=130 000 K) and luminosity (L = 170 L☉) of the ionizing star, which are consistent with the UV continuum. This analysis allows us to better constrain the binary system. We concluded that the progenitor star of NGC 2346 has evolved through a common envelope phase, in which the companion star has evolved off the main-sequence.

Abstract: Two molecular baskets 16-, each with three (S)-glutamic acids at its rim, were found (NMR, ITC) to complex diammonium alkanes 22+-52+ (+H3N(CH2)nNH3+, n = 7-10) giving ternary [2-5⊂12]10- assemblies (K = 107-109 M-2). From the magnetic perturbation of proton nuclei (1H NMR, NICS), we deduced that each guest assumed a U shape within the binary complex, [2-5⊂1]4-. Two ammonium groups were bound in the "anionic nest" at the top of 16-, while the hydrocarbon chain resided in its nonpolar cavity. From detailed ITC analyses, we showed that the binary complex [2-5⊂1]4- forms first and then another 16- capped [2-5⊂1]4- to give [2-5⊂12]10-, via interactions of the carboxylates at the rims with ammoniums on the guest. Long-range NOEs revealed that U-shaped 22+ and 52+ coiled into highly strained twist-turn-twist formations, for the first time observed within an abiotic host while curiously resembling helix-turn-helix motif found in DNA binding proteins.

Abstract: The high number of occupational accidents occurring every year in the industrial sector is still one of the main social policy action areas of governments worldwide. Both technical and human failures are often addressed as the main causes for accidents at work. However, the lack of full hazard prevention effectiveness from currently available Safeguarding Devices is another factor that should be considered, at least, from an engineering viewpoint. This paper presents a recently patented Access Detection and Machine Cycle Tracking System (ADMCTS) for industrial machinery with active safety purposes. Active safety paradigm has greatly succeeded in the automotive sector in the last years, dramatically improving road traffic accident prevention by means of active devices with real-time capabilities. Based on a dedicated Computer Vision System (CVS) for real-time video analysis of a monitored safety zone, the ADMCTS performs three main functions: access and presence detection of objects entering and/or remaining within the monitored zone, machine cycle tracking, and warning and alarm signal handling to ensure that machine functions are only allowed when workplace conditions are safe. Machine cycle tracking provides the ADMCTS with an adaptive risk assessment capability for optimal prevention. In order to provide a thoughtful description of its functionality, a state machine model of the ADMCTS is introduced, and a visual walk-through of this model, as applied on a generic cutting machine, is also discussed.

Abstract: Background: Surgery is the curative therapy for patients with medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC). In determining the extent of surgery, the risk of complications should be considered. The aim of this study was to assess procedure-specific outcomes and risk factors for complications after surgery for MTC. Methods: Patients who underwent thyroid surgery for MTC were identified in two European prospective quality databases. Hypoparathyroidism was defined by treatment with calcium/active vitamin D. Recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) palsy was diagnosed on laryngoscopy. Complications were considered at least transient if present at last follow-up. Risk factors for at-least transient hypoparathyroidism and RLN palsy were identified by logistic regression analysis. Results: A total of 650 patients underwent surgery in 69 centres at a median age of 56 years. Hypoparathyroidism, RLN palsy and bleeding requiring reoperation occurred in 170 (26·2 per cent), 62 (13·7 per cent) and 17 (2·6 per cent) respectively. Factors associated with hypoparathyroidism were central lymph node dissection (CLND) (odds ratio (OR) 2·20, 95 per cent c.i. 1·04 to 4·67), CLND plus unilateral lateral lymph node dissection (LLND) (OR 2·78, 1·20 to 6·43), CLND plus bilateral LLND (OR 2·83, 1·13 to 7·05) and four or more parathyroid glands observed (OR 4·18, 1·46 to 12·00). RLN palsy was associated with CLND plus LLND (OR 4·04, 1·12 to 14·58) and T4 tumours (OR 12·16, 4·46 to 33·18). After compartment-oriented lymph node dissection, N0 status was achieved in 248 of 537 patients (46·2 per cent). Conclusion: Complications after surgery for MTC are procedure-specific and may relate to the unavoidable consequences of radical dissection needed in some patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: The porosity present in ices contains many clues on the conditions of their formation and evolution, as well as their trapping capacities. Laboratory experiments studying such porosity are essential to better understand interstellar ices. In this work, we present recent theoretical results on water and CO ices that aim at reproducing laboratory experiments. We use Monte Carlo methods in order to describe the fate of each molecule present in the ices, which is determined by the different processes that molecules can experience, such as accretion, diffusion and evaporation. For water ices, we show that porosity depends on the conditions of deposition, and that with increasing temperature, small pores connect and merge, allowing trapped molecules to meet and react within the pores network and thus increasing the efficiency of the reaction. For CO ices, we show that deposition conditions can also give different types of CO ices, with many weakly bound CO molecules as the deposition occurs at very low temperatures. The presence of weakly bound CO molecules could explain the far less important freeze out seen in pre-stellar cores, compared to what is commonly expected.

Abstract: Introduction and objectives: HCV infection is targeted by the WHO's Global Health Sector Strategy on Viral Hepatitis to be reduced notably by 2030. However, renovated epidemiological data is needed to line up with such goals. Herein, we provide an updated review of incidence, prevalence, genotypes (GTs), and risk factors (RFs) of HCV infection in Mexico to build elimination strategies. Material and methods: HCV incidence was charted using the cumulative new cases/year at week 52. Prevalence, GTs, and RFs data from low-risk (LR-G) and high-risk (HR-Gs) groups were searched in PubMed/MEDLINE/Medigraphic/Scielo databases from January 2008 to December 2019 as per PRISMA guidelines. Weighted mean prevalence (WMP) was estimated; GTs and RFs were registered. Results: In this study, 25,247 new cases were reported. Ten states accumulated 76.32% of HCV incidence that peaked in men at 50-59 years and women at 60-64 years. Thirty-four studies revealed a WMP between 0.774%-2.5% in LR-Gs and 11.8%-39.6% in HR-Gs that included mainly prison inmates, drug users, and dialyzed patients. GT1 and GT2 were predominant; GT3a emerged. Subtypes 1a and 1b circulate differentially, whereas novel GT2 subtypes appeared. Unsafe blood transfusion was infrequent in younger groups, but parenteral/intravenous transmission through drug-related risk behaviors has arisen. Conclusions: HCV transmission increased notably among LR-Gs and HR-Gs in Mexico. Novel genotypes/subtypes emerged as well as risky behavioral routes of transmission. A national elimination strategy will require pro-active screening in designated risk groups, research in molecular epidemiology, medical training, robust epidemiological databases, and antiviral treatment available to all eligible HCV-infected patients. Abstract: We report on the synthesis of Bi0.4Sr0.6FeO3 powder with cubic structure by solid state reaction (mechanical milling and calcination) from Bi2O3, SrCO3 and Fe2O3 stoichiometric ratios. Milled powder mixtures were heat treated between 775∘C and 825∘C for 30 and 60 min in oxygen atmosphere and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), impedance as well as Mossbauer spectroscopy. The cubic phase of Bi0.4Sr0.6FeO3 was successfully obtained in samples milled for only 2 h and a subsequent calcination at 800∘C. Irrespective of milling time, heat treatments at lower temperatures (775∘C) still show spurious phases such as Sr0.23Bi0.76O1.1 (30 min) and Sr0.53Bi1.72O3 (60 min). Impedance spectroscopy show high values (105–109) Ω indicating strong structural bond between the atoms of the system and activation energies for the strontium ion around 04 eV. These results show a single dynamic behavior in a range from 1 to 2*105 Hz enabling data adjustment and analysis to a RC circuit. Conductivity results normally show a behavior that obeys the universal law of Jonscher’s relaxation (σ = σDc + αωn) with values for the exponent n (0.8 < n < 1) typical in these structures. Mossbauer spectrometry measurements reveal that the hyperfine magnetic field of the precursors and milled powders corresponds to hematite 512 T. After the thermal treatment of the samples, the mean hyperfine field decreases to 489 ± 0.5 T showing the Bi and Sr atoms diffusion, (non- magnetic) in Fe2O3. While the result of isomer shift corresponds to a Fe+3 oxidation state irrespective of the heat treatment.

Abstract: Altres ajuts: This work was supported by Celyad, SA (Mont-Saint-Guibert, Belgium). Celyad has received research grants from the Walloon Region (Belgium, DG06 funding). Cardiopoietic cells, produced through cardiogenic conditioning of patients' mesenchymal stem cells, have shown preliminary efficacy. The Congestive Heart Failure Cardiopoietic Regenerative Therapy (CHART-1) trial aimed to validate cardiopoiesis-based biotherapy in a larger heart failure cohort. This multinational, randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled study was conducted in 39 hospitals. Patients with symptomatic ischaemic heart failure on guideline-directed therapy (n = 484) were screened; n = 348 underwent bone marrow harvest and mesenchymal stem cell expansion. Those achieving > 24 million mesenchymal stem cells (n = 315) were randomized to cardiopoietic cells delivered endomyocardially with a retention-enhanced catheter (n = 157) or sham procedure (n = 158). Procedures were performed as randomized in 271 patients (n = 120 cardiopoietic cells, n = 151 sham). The primary efficacy endpoint was a Finkelstein–Schoenfeld hierarchical composite (all-cause mortality, worsening heart failure, Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire score, 6-min walk distance, left ventricular end-systolic volume, and ejection fraction) at 39 weeks. The primary outcome was neutral (Mann–Whitney estimator 0.54, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.47–0.61 [value > 0.5 favours cell treatment], P = 0.27). Exploratory analyses suggested a benefit of cell treatment on the primary composite in patients with baseline left ventricular end-diastolic volume 200–370 mL (60% of patients) (Mann–Whitney estimator 0.61, 95% CI 0.52–0.70, P = 0.015). No difference was observed in serious adverse events. One (0.9%) cardiopoietic cell patient and 9 (5.4%) sham patients experienced aborted or sudden cardiac death. The primary endpoint was neutral, with safety demonstrated across the cohort. Further evaluation of cardiopoietic cell therapy in patients with elevated end-diastolic volume is warranted.

Abstract: A series of 1,3-substituted 8-styrylxanthines (11a-d) was synthesized, under chemo- and regioselective conditions, in a good overall yield. The compounds showed affinity towards both A1 and A2A-adenosine receptors by radioligand binding by means of in vitro assays. The (E)-3-ethyl-1-propyl-8-styrylxanthine (11a) showed the greatest affinity towards the A2A receptor, whereas (E)-3-pentyl-1-propyl-8-styrylxanthine (11d) showed the greatest affinity for the A1 receptor. When the 8-styrylxanthines 11a (A15Et) and 11c (A15Bu) were administrated in rats, which were previously injured with 6-hydroxydopamine at the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc), the turning behavior decreased 50%. Based on these results we propose to A15Et as a potential compound to treat some symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.

Abstract: One-third of top-selling drugs are derived from natural products. When only a fraction of the bioactive natural products diversity has been explored, huge opportunities still remain for discovering novel leads for the development of new drugs. Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is a highly vascular tumour arising from epithelial elements. Mutations in the Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) gene are responsible for VHL disease and arise in the majority of Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC) as well as in other types of cancer. Renal carcinoma cell lines with naturally occurring VHL mutations (RCC4 VA) and their genetically matched wild-type VHL (RCC4 VHL) counterparts were seeded onto 96-well plates and allowed to attach overnight. Fungal extracts were tested on both cell lines. Clinically useful antitumor agents were used as positive controls and as reference points to establish the efficacy and selectivity of the new compounds. Renal cell carcinoma cell lines expressing VHL or not were treated with Carboxyfluorescein succinimidyl ester (CFSE). The day after cell inoculation, extracts were added and during the following days of incubation, fluorescence intensity was measured as a surrogate marker for cell viability. The most promising extracts selectively inhibited growth of pVHL-defi- cient cells but not of wild-type VHL cells. We used High Content Bio-imaging, a complete cellular imaging workflow that integrates instruments and software to acquire and analyze images, to evaluate their effect. Cell imaging can reveal effects that would be overlooked by other cell assay approaches. This target-based whole cell screen is a new strategy, which ensures cell permeability and target selectivity especially in natural product screening where natural product purification is a labour of extensive work. This approach permitted a dynamic study where fluorescence was measured without affecting cell viability and enabling a better detection of cytotoxic effects such as autophagy, senescence or late apoptosis.

Abstract: From the beginning of the 16 th until the end of the 19 th century the most widely used mirrors consisted of a pane of glass backed with a reflecting layer of tin-mercury amalgam. They were made by sliding the glass pane over a tin foil covered with liquid mercury. After removal of the superfluous mercury, tin amalgam formed slowly at ambient temperature and yielded a reflecting layer adhering to the surface of the glass. Such mirrors often deteriorate in the course of time by oxidation of the tin in the amalgam to stannous or stannic oxide. 119Sn Mossbauer spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, micro-XRF and X-ray diffraction have been used to study this deterioration process. The studied specimens were a modern mirror made for the reconstruction of the Green Vault in Dresden in the early 2000s, two rather well preserved German mirrors from the 17 th and 19 th centuries and several strongly deteriorated specimens of Baroque mirrors from the south of Spain. The modern mirror consists mainly of a Sn0.9Hg0.1 amalgam with only 2 % of SnO2. The older German mirrors showed more pronounced oxidation, containing 12 and 15 % of SnO2, which did not noticeably impair their reflectivity. In the samples from the Spanish mirrors at best a few percent of metallic phase was left. The majority of the tin had oxidised to SnO2, but between 8 and 20 % of the tin was present as SnO. X-ray diffraction yielded similar results and micro-XRF mapping using synchrotron radiation for excitation gave information on the distribution of Sn and Hg in the reflecting layer of the mirrors.

Abstract: International audience; This work investigates the impact of structural parameters on the rheological behaviour of apple purees. Reconstructed apple purees from 0 g/100 g up to 2.32 g/100 g of insoluble solids content and varying in particle size were prepared. Three different particle size distributions were obtained by mechanical treatment only, to modify both size and morphology of the particles without modifying the intrinsic rigidity of the cell walls. Rheological measurements showed that the insoluble solids content have a first order effect on the rheological behaviour of the suspensions: three concentrations domains were observed in both dynamic and flow measurements. A model is proposed for each domain. The existence of a weak network between particles is clearly shown over a critical concentration of insoluble solids (cell walls) depending on particle size distribution (semi-diluted domain). In a concentrated domain, particles are on close packing conditions and their apparent volume begin to shrink. Particle size and shape also play an important role on the rheological behaviour of reconstructed apple puree. Due to their irregular shape, cell clusters clog the medium at lower concentration compared to individual cells.

Abstract: 1ES 1011+496 $(z=0.212)$ was discovered in very high energy (VHE, E >100 GeV) $\gamma$-rays with MAGIC in 2007. The absence of simultaneous data at lower energies led to a rather incomplete characterization of the broadband spectral energy distribution (SED). We study the source properties and the emission mechanisms, probing whether a simple one-zone synchrotron-self-Compton (SSC) scenario is able to explain the observed broadband spectrum. We analyzed VHE to radio data from 2011 and 2012 collected by MAGIC, $Fermi$-LAT, $Swift$, KVA, OVRO, and Mets\"ahovi in addition to optical polarimetry data and radio maps from the Liverpool Telescope and MOJAVE. The VHE spectrum was fit with a simple power law with a photon index of $3.69\pm0.22$ and a flux above 150 GeV of $(1.46\pm0.16)\times10^{-11}$ ph cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$. 1ES 1011+496 was found to be in a generally quiescent state at all observed wavelengths, showing only moderate variability from radio to X-rays. A low degree of polarization of less than 10% was measured in optical, while some bright features polarized up to 60% were observed in the radio jet. A similar trend in the rotation of the electric vector position angle was found in optical and radio. The radio maps indicated a superluminal motion of $1.8\pm0.4\,c$, which is the highest speed statistically significantly measured so far in a high-frequency-peaked BL Lac. For the first time, the high-energy bump in the broadband SED of 1ES 1011+496 could be fully characterized from 0.1 GeV to 1 TeV which permitted a more reliable interpretation within the one-zone SSC scenario. The polarimetry data suggest that at least part of the optical emission has its origin in some of the bright radio features, while the low polarization in optical might be due to the contribution of parts of the radio jet with different orientations of the magnetic field to the optical emission., Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures

Abstract: We present a case report of a chronic graft-versus-host disease manifestation in 33-year-old patient with an unusual complication of vaginal stenosis with complete obstruction after allogeneic bone marrow transplantation for myelocytic leukemia. The patient complained on a progressive dyspareunia and sexual intercourse inability. She has received hormone replacement therapy due to the ovarian failure after the chemotherapy treatment. The hormonal treatment was used in continuous combined manner and hematocolpos wasn’t seen during an abdominal ultrasound examination. The reconstructive surgery was performed by the modified Vecchietti’s neovagina technique with a Remeex® system after histological confirmation of main diagnosis. The immediate postoperative course was uneventful with gradual normalization of sexual function.

Abstract: Barley (Hordeum vulgareL.) possesses a large and highly repetitive genome of 5.1 Gb that has hindered the development of a complete sequence. In 2012, the International Barley Sequencing Consortium released a resource integrating whole-genome shotgun sequences with a physical and genetic framework. However, since only 6,278 BACs in the physical map were sequenced, detailed fine structure was limited. To gain access to the gene-containing portion of the barley genome at high resolution, we identified and sequenced 15,622 BACs representing the minimal tiling path of 72,052 physical mapped gene-bearing BACs. This generated about 1.7 Gb of genomic sequence containing 17,386 annotated barley genes. Exploration of the sequenced BACs revealed that although distal ends of chromosomes contain most of the gene-enriched BACs and are characterized by high rates of recombination, there are also gene-dense regions with suppressed recombination. Knowledge of these deviant regions is relevant to trait introgression, genome-wide association studies, genomic selection model development and map-based cloning strategies. Sequences and their gene and SNP annotations can be accessed and exported via http://harvest-web.org/hweb/utilmenu.wc or through the software HarvEST:Barley (download from harvest.ucr.edu). In the latter, we have implemented a synteny viewer between barley andAegilops tauschiito aid in comparative genome analysis.

Abstract: We performed a 4.5-month multi-instrument campaign (from radio to VHE gamma rays) on Mrk421 between January 2009 and June 2009, which included VLBA, F-GAMMA, GASP-WEBT, Swift, RXTE, Fermi-LAT, MAGIC, and Whipple, among other instruments and collaborations. Mrk421 was found in its typical (non-flaring) activity state, with a VHE flux of about half that of the Crab Nebula, yet the light curves show significant variability at all wavelengths, the highest variability being in the X-rays. We determined the power spectral densities (PSD) at most wavelengths and found that all PSDs can be described by power-laws without a break, and with indices consistent with pink/red-noise behavior. We observed a harder-when-brighter behavior in the X-ray spectra and measured a positive correlation between VHE and X-ray fluxes with zero time lag. Such characteristics have been reported many times during flaring activity, but here they are reported for the first time in the non-flaring state. We also observed an overall anti-correlation between optical/UV and X-rays extending over the duration of the campaign. The harder-when-brighter behavior in the X-ray spectra and the measured positive X-ray/VHE correlation during the 2009 multi-wavelength campaign suggests that the physical processes dominating the emission during non-flaring states have similarities with those occurring during flaring activity. In particular, this observation supports leptonic scenarios as being responsible for the emission of Mrk421 during non-flaring activity. Such a temporally extended X-ray/VHE correlation is not driven by any single flaring event, and hence is difficult to explain within the standard hadronic scenarios. Abstract: Many experiments in nuclear and neutron physics are confronted with the problem that they use a superconducting magnetic spectrometer which potentially affects other experiments by their stray magnetic field. The retardation spectrometer a SPECT consists, inter alia, of a superconducting magnet system that produces a strong longitudinal magnetic field of up to 6.2 T. In order not to disturb other experiments in the vicinity of a SPECT, we had to develop a magnetic field return yoke for the magnet system. While the return yoke must reduce the stray magnetic field, the internal magnetic field and its homogeneity should not be affected. As in many cases, the magnetic shielding for a SPECT must manage with limited space. In addition, we must ensure that the additional magnetic forces on the magnet coils are not destructive. In order to determine the most suitable geometry for the magnetic shielding for a SPECT, we simulated a variety of possible geometries and combinations of shielding materials of non-linear permeability. The results of our simulations were checked through magnetic field measurements both with Hall and nuclear magnetic resonance probes. The experimental data are in good agreement with the simulated values: the mean deviation from the simulated exterior magnetic field is (−1.7±4.8)%. However, in the two critical regions, the internal magnetic field deviates by 0.2% (decay volume) and 1 × 10 − 4 (analyzing plane) from the simulated values.

Abstract: Natural products are considered an extremely valuable source for the discovery of new drugs against diverse pathologies. As yet, we have only explored a fraction of the diversity of bioactive compounds, and opportunities for discovering new natural products leading to new drugs are huge. In the present study, U2nesRELOC, a previously established cell-based imaging assay, was employed to screen a collection of extracts of microbial origin for nuclear export inhibition activity. The fluorescent signal of untreated U2nesRELOC cells localizes predominantly to the cytoplasm. Upon treatment with the nuclear export inhibitor leptomycin B, the fluorescent-tagged reporter proteins appear as speckles in the nucleus. A proprietary collection of extracts from fungi, actinomycetes, and unicellular bacteria that covers an uncommonly broad chemical space was used to interrogate this nuclear export assay system. A two-step image-based analysis allowed us to identify 12 extracts with biological activities that are not associated with previously known active metabolites. The fractionation and structural elucidation of active compounds revealed several chemical structures with nuclear export inhibition activity. Here we show that substrates of the nuclear export receptor CRM1, such as Rev, FOXO3a and NF-B, accumulate in the nucleus in the presence of the fungal metabolite MDN-0105 with an IC50 value of 3.4 mu M. Many important processes in tumor formation and progression, as well as in many viral infections, critically depend on the nucleocytoplasmic trafficking of proteins and RNA molecules. Therefore, the disruption of nuclear export is emerging as a novel therapeutic approach with enormous clinical potential. Our work highlights the potential of applying high-throughput phenotypic imaging on natural product extracts to identify novel nuclear export inhibitors. Abstract: Ten prevalences of disease or functional affections due to degenerative processes that statistically show a significant age-dependent behaviour were taken as variables for a biological aging study of a population living in a district of Madrid. The cross-sectional procedure consisted in grouping the disease prevalences by age decades and calculating aging by the vector-analytical mathematical method in which the age-dependent prevalence was the result of one of the total of 10 vector components. The progressive accumulative increase of the vector distances from the origin as well as the distances among the vectors in relation to the population age was considered as biological aging. On the basis of similar mathematical models the results were compared with those obtained from other populations in which different indicators were used; the results are concurrent, but show here a greater aging acceleration than when the population was composed solely of healthy individuals. This is considered a logical consequence due to the sample composition. The presented procedure, focussed epidemiologically, can be useful in comparing aging of populations.

Abstract: We report the gravitational microlensing discovery of a sub-Saturn mass planet, MOA-2009-BLG-319Lb, orbiting a K or M-dwarf star in the inner Galactic disk or Galactic bulge. The high cadence observations of the MOA-II survey discovered this microlensing event and enabled its identification as a high magnification event approximately 24 hours prior to peak magnification. As a result, the planetary signal at the peak of this light curve was observed by 20 different telescopes, which is the largest number of telescopes to contribute to a planetary discovery to date. The microlensing model for this event indicates a planet-star mass ratio of q = (3.95 +/- 0.02) x 10^{-4} and a separation of d = 0.97537 +/- 0.00007 in units of the Einstein radius. A Bayesian analysis based on the measured Einstein radius crossing time, t_E, and angular Einstein radius, \theta_E, along with a standard Galactic model indicates a host star mass of M_L = 0.38^{+0.34}_{-0.18} M_{Sun} and a planet mass of M_p = 50^{+44}_{-24} M_{Earth}, which is half the mass of Saturn. This analysis also yields a planet-star three-dimensional separation of a = 2.4^{+1.2}_{-0.6} AU and a distance to the planetary system of D_L = 6.1^{+1.1}_{-1.2} kpc. This separation is ~ 2 times the distance of the snow line, a separation similar to most of the other planets discovered by microlensing., Comment: accepted to ApJ, 28 pages, 6 figures, 3 tables
