This article describes how the advent of the Information Age has brought an educational tendency to focus on the quality and morality, excluding the quantity of education and rote learning. This highlights the importance of developing competence of critical insight, problem solving, collaboration, communication, creative thinking, and cultural understanding in public education. However, the reality of education in Korea is that the public school fails to be apart from content-based learning, teacher-centered learning and ranking-oriented learning. To solve this problem, the Education Ministry suggests cultivating a creative human resource with integrated competency in the revised curriculum of 2015 and implement a free semester program. Moreover, flipped learning is being realized and researched as the shift the teaching paradigm, aiming to introduce it in each school. Accordingly, this project suggests establishing a step in the right direction of flipped learning so that it can be boosted on stage. This article also suggests the purpose and its goal of flipped learning based on precedent studies and their implications on political, administrative and financial, cultural, school curriculum and assessment-based view.

The purpose of this study is to attempt to analyze the validity of the modular-type test construction implemented in the CSAT (College Scholastic Ability Test) of 2014. In order to test this, we analyzed the item difficulty and item discrimination according to different modules of the test items of Regional Coalition Academic Tests (RCAT), which is similar to CSAT. Based on the results of the analysis, topic comprehension module and detail information module have turned out to be rather easy test items with relatively high difficulty and discrimination. On the other hand, writing module, grammar/vocabulary module, and interaction module have proved as items with lower difficulty and discrimination. Based on the results of the study, we propose the possibility of applying level-differentiated test on the assumption that it would be easier to derive the complementarity of the construction of modular tests and to minimize the mutual interference between test items. Also, since a module is a group of similar test items that measure the same ability, we discussed the possibility to create a test format that corresponds to learner level, learning content, and the learning environment by adjusting the proportion of each module.

This study aims to develop English listening ability of middle school students in below-average level through English pop songs and investigate the effectiveness by before and after surveys, national English listening tests and national English achievement tests after 10 months. Learning English includes motivation, listening, speaking, reading and writing. Most of all, motivation and listening skills have been proved the most fundamental and important two factors. For teaching and learning English listening skills, English pop songs can be used as an effective way and useful pattern practices related to the songs can be very helpful. English pop songs can help students feel more confident and enjoy English to learn more at home as well as in the classroom. The results of this study are English pop songs increased their interest and motivation for learning English, which were turned out to help the students get about three times more scores. Therefore it is desirable that more English teachers have to try use English pop songs to improve students’ listening ability.

Even if the need for English education in Korea is on the rise, too various perspectives on English education and the government`s lack of consistency in the English education policy are said to be a negative factor in improving the English communication skills. The purpose of this study, in line with the knowledge and information society, is to develop ontology modeling for knowledge map of English education methodology and to make a contribution to English education policy of the country.

This paper investigates the correlation of three extracted variables: service quality, satisfaction and loyalty in the Ubiquitous Living English Experience Learning Center (ULLELC). The results suggest that since the relationship of these three variables is positively correlated, the center needs to develop more efficient guidelines and strategies for public relations in order to encourage more students to experience it.

The study is conducted as basic research to verify professional expertise and abilities of native English teachers who are teaching in Korea in objective and scientific ways. It aims to introduce a qualification certificate system which seeks to measure qualification by abilities, and to boost professionalism and morale, and finally, contributes to reinforcement of public English education in Korea. Therefore, this basic study is on the `Practical use of native English teachers and general analysis.` The study seeks to evaluate the management system of English native teachers and find ways to improve it. Also, it is expected that this research would practically contribute to the development of Korean English education.

The development of information and communication technology has brought many changes to the educational environment. The prevalence of smart-phones is also playing a big role in shaping learning methods. It provides the opportunity to access QR codes easily. The QR codes are a system of two dimensional matrixes developed by the Denso Wave company. These can greatly ease access to information. Due to high recognition speed, recognition rate and restoration rate, they can be useful tools for English teachers to use in their class. In this study, we propose ways to use smart English teaching and learning methods in conjunction with QR codes. We suggest using QR codes for writing and picture descriptions. As a model class about the picture descriptions, we can find a QR Codes used class which was broadcasted in EBSe TV. Based on this study, more research should be done about smart English teaching models for the better English class for the students.

The formal expression of tense and aspect is not the only way to signify time. There is a temporal adverbials' function in the expression of time. Their contribution is apparently clear. The functions of temporal adverbials show a great range of variety. Some of them are more visible; others need further consideration to explain. A time interval has a relational location with another time interval and represents boundary and continuity. All of these characteristics can be defined by a certain adverbial. Temporal adverbials, which refer to the time represented by the verb in a sentence, can be used as a useful tool in determining tense. However, whether their role can always cooccur with tense should be examined based on the context given. One cannot deny that temporal adverbials in English and Korean are important tools in the recognition of tense but that does not mean one can always rely on temporal adverbials. What we should remember is that the given context and pragmatic value should not be neglected in estimating the correlation between tense and adverbials.

This study attempts to explore measures for teacher training that can facilitate communicative learning and teaching and keep pace with the change in educational environment. In order to specify the purpose, it has surveyed 4537 English teachers on the condition of the current training programs for English teachers and the future direction of teacher training with the implementation of criterion-based evaluation. Based on the results of the survey, the result of this article is as follows: First, the current evaluation system, norm-referenced evaluation, should be substituted for criterionreferenced evaluation based on the practical analysis on teaching-learning and evaluation. Second, the evaluation should follow the direction; from ‘collectivestandardized’ to ‘various-individualized’, from ‘product-centered’ to ‘processcentered’, from ‘traditional paper test’ to ‘various examination via information communication technology (ICT)’. Third, based on the analysis on the reality and system of current English teacher training, the training circumstance appropriate for communicative language teaching should be prepared under criterion-referenced evaluation. Fourth, based on the analysis of the reality and system of current English teacher training programs, the right direction of training appropriate for the changed paradigm should be established. In order to overcome the restriction that the Korean English education system has, English camps for students have been proposed by the Korean Education system as a solution for improving Korean student’s English ability. The purpose of this research is to analyze the characteristics of a shortterm English Immersion program during a middle school English camp. This study was conducted at an Institute in Chungnam, during a short-term English camp for middle school students, including dormitory residency. My research focused on three different sections: Firstly, the TBL classes that are taught just by a native teacher. Secondly, EEC activities which are co-teaching classes that are taught by a Korean teacher and a native teacher. Thirdly, communicative activities are carried out by all students and every teacher. Communicative activities include ice breakers, performance, Olympic, fun farewell and journal writing. But I have some questions about this. The questions asked were: What do students feel most comfortable with among three different situations? Do they have some changes with themselves? With these questions in mind, my study will progress so as to analyze this program. Over a period of four days, students encounter three different kinds of learning situations as I’ve mentioned. Students who take part in this Immersion program are from different kinds of schools. At first, they feel nervous and embarrassed with many native teachers and their challenge of having to speak English. But at the end of the camp, students are all satisfied with this program. Their anxieties are decreased and their motivation to study English is increased. Contrary to our expectations, when students encounter native teachers without a Korean teacher, students feel confident as well. As an alternative of EFL English education, this immersion camp should be strongly recommended.
