Objective: To investigate the correlation between antisperm antibodies (ASAs), pregnancy rates, and the method of conception following vasectomy reversal. This is particularly relevant as patients undergoing vasectomy reversal often express concerns about the potential inhibitory effects of ASAs on achieving pregnancy. Additionally, the American Urological Association guidelines for vasectomy emphasize the need for further research to address this question. Patient and Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis involving chart reviews and phone interviews with individuals who underwent vasectomy reversal at our institution between May 2015 and April 2023. Patients who underwent vasectomy reversal for reasons other than fertility, as well as those lacking postoperative semen analysis with ASA data, were excluded. We classified patients based on low (below 50%) or high (50% or above) ASA levels determined by their initial postoperative semen analysis. The primary outcome measured was the pregnancy rate, including details on the method of conception. Results: A total of 145 patients were subjected to chart review. The median age at the time of surgery was 43 years, with a median obstruction interval of 7.7 years. The median age of their partners was 29 years. The majority (80%) of patients underwent bilateral vasovasostomy. Among them, 60 patients (41.4%) exhibited low (< 50%) ASA levels, while 85 (58.6%) had high (≥ 50%) ASA levels. Follow-up phone interviews were completed by 48 patients. Among them, the 19 men with low ASA levels, 13 (68.4%) achieved pregnancy, with 6 (31.6%) experiencing spontaneous conception. For the 29 men with high ASA levels, 21 (72.4%) achieved pregnancy, including 11 (38%) through spontaneous conception. The p-value from Fisher’s exact test was 0.2. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that ASA levels do not show a significant association with either the pregnancy rate or the method of conception following vasectomy reversal.

Abstract The present study applies the improved stratigraphic modified Lorenz (ISML) technique to divide the Matulla Formation in Muzhil Oil Field in the Gulf of Suez into some hydraulic flow units (HFUs) and to check the flow efficiency contribution of each hydraulic flow unit (HFU) to the total bulk flow capacity of the reservoir in 3 wells (Muzhil-4, 7, and 8). The output of the ISML plot is applied in integration with the vertical plot of the porosity (∅), permeability (k), and effective pore radius (R35) against depth to measure the efficiency of each HFU contribution to the total flow capacity of the Matulla reservoir, and to delineate the main attributor to the flow capacity. It is indicated that the Matulla sandstone reservoirs can be subdivided into 7 HFUs to the NW of the field, while it is subdivided into four and five HFUs in the center and to the SE of the field; i.e., its heterogeneity increases to the NW at Muzhil-7 well. On the other side, the best reservoir quality is assigned to the southeast at Muzhil-4 well (av. ∅ = 20.8%, av. k = 596.6 md, and R35 = 12.1 μm). The efficiency of the obtained HFUs was estimated and described both mathematically and graphically. Also, the measured porosity and permeability values indicate relatively low reservoir properties to the NW of the field. The reservoir heterogeneity is also measured using the Dykstra-Parsons technique which indicates extremely high heterogeneity (0.89 ≤ V ≤ 0.98).

The emergence of vaccine-evading SARS-CoV-2 variants urges the need for vaccines that elicit broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs). Here, we assess covalently circularized nanodiscs decorated with recombinant SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoproteins from several variants for eliciting bnAbs with vaccination. Cobalt porphyrin–phospholipid (CoPoP) was incorporated into the nanodisc to allow for anchoring and functional orientation of spike trimers on the nanodisc surface through their His-tag. Monophosphoryl-lipid (MPLA) and QS-21 were incorporated as immunostimulatory adjuvants to enhance vaccine responses. Following optimization of nanodisc assembly, spike proteins were effectively displayed on the surface of the nanodiscs and maintained their conformational capacity for binding with human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (hACE2) as verified using electron microscopy and slot blot assay, respectively. Six different formulations were prepared where they contained mono antigens; four from the year 2020 (WT, Beta, Lambda, and Delta) and two from the year 2021 (Omicron BA.1 and BA.2). Additionally, we prepared a mosaic nanodisc displaying the four spike proteins from year 2020. Intramuscular vaccination of CD-1 female mice with the mosaic nanodisc induced antibody responses that not only neutralized matched pseudo-typed viruses, but also neutralized mismatched pseudo-typed viruses corresponding to later variants from year 2021 (Omicron BA.1 and BA.2). Interestingly, sera from mosaic-immunized mice did not effectively inhibit Omicron spike binding to human ACE-2, suggesting that some of the elicited antibodies were directed towards conserved neutralizing epitopes outside the receptor binding domain. Our results show that mosaic nanodisc vaccine displaying spike proteins from 2020 can elicit broadly neutralizing antibodies that can neutralize mismatched viruses from a following year, thus decreasing immune evasion of new emerging variants and enhancing healthcare preparedness.

Marble is one of the most important materials in the field of interior design for houses and buildings. Marble is a natural material with aesthetic values that may vary from one type to another depending on its mineral compositions and its properties. In this research, the necessary tests were done for six types of Egyptian marble To compare the differences between geological, chemical, physicomechanical properties of the same marble type in the different areas and to quantify the different characteristics and uses of selected marble types. The tests were physical, mechanical (according to ASTM standards), chemical, as well as petrography analysis. South Sinai Teriesta marble samples had the highest values of major oxides, as SiO2 1.03%, MgO 0.638%, Al2O3 0.355%, Fe2O3 0.339%, and the lowest value of CaO 54.6%, compared with other studied marble types. Zaafarana marble samples had the lowest values of water absorption with average of 0.356% and the apparent porosity with average of 0.894%, the highest average values of: bulk density 2.729 gm/cm3, abrasion resistance 2.345, and compressive strength 100.29 MPa compared with other studied marble types. Elminya Selvia marble samples had the highest values of water absorption with average of 1.488% and the apparent porosity with average of 3.770%., the lowest average values of: bulk density with 2.468 gm/cm3, abrasion resistance 1.145, and compressive strength 41.37 MPa. Modulus of rupture ranged from 7.2 to 13.8 MPa, for dry and wet conditions and the flexural strength ranged from 6.4 to 12.25 MPa, for dry and wet conditions.

Serous ovarian carcinoma (SOC) is an ovarian cancer with a high fatality rate. Therefore, a lot of researchers have tried to identify novel prognostic biomarkers which might improve the patient prognosis. The aims of the study were to detect the tissue protein expression of Beclin-1 in addition to HIF-1α in SOC patients, to evaluate the relationship between their expression, the clinicopathological parameters, patients’ prognosis, and the relation to chemotherapy resistance in SOC. We evaluated the expression of Beclin-1 in addition to HIF-1α in 60 patients with SOC using immunohistochemistry, followed all patients for about 36 months, analyzed associations between both markers' expression, clinicopathological data, and patients’ prognosis. IntroductionStudies have shown reduced antiviral responses in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) following SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccination, but data on post-vaccination alloimmune responses and antiviral responses against the Delta (B.1.617.2) variant are limited.Materials and methodsTo address this issue, we conducted a prospective, multi-center study of 58 adult KTRs receiving mRNA-BNT162b2 or mRNA-1273 vaccines. We used multiple complementary non-invasive biomarkers for rejection monitoring including serum creatinine, proteinuria, donor-derived cell-free DNA, peripheral blood gene expression profile (PBGEP), urinary CXCL9 mRNA and de novo donor-specific antibodies (DSA). Secondary outcomes included development of anti-viral immune responses against the wild-type and Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2.ResultsAt a median of 85 days, no KTRs developed de novo DSAs and only one patient developed acute rejection following recent conversion to belatacept, which was associated with increased creatinine and urinary CXCL9 levels. During follow-up, there were no significant changes in proteinuria, donor-derived cell-free DNA levels or PBGEP. 36% of KTRs in our cohort developed anti-wild-type spike antibodies, 75% and 55% of whom had neutralizing responses against wild-type and Delta variants respectively. A cellular response against wild-type S1, measured by interferon-γ-ELISpot assay, developed in 38% of KTRs. Cellular responses did not differ in KTRs with or without antibody responses.ConclusionsSARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccination in KTRs did not elicit a significant alloimmune response. About half of KTRs who develop anti-wild-type spike antibodies after two mRNA vaccine doses have neutralizing responses against the Delta variant. There was no association between anti-viral humoral and cellular responses.

Purpose. The research is aimed at evaluating the petrophysical characteristics of the Late Cretaceous Matulla Formation in the central part of the Gulf of Suez in order to detect its hydrocarbon reservoir potential. Methods. Well logs from five wells (Muzhil-1, -2, -4, -7, -8) were used to evaluate the Matulla reservoirs based on a computerized approach. Petrophysical parameters and fluid types were calculated, verified using core data, and represented vertically as lithosaturation cross plots and laterally as isoparametric variation maps. Findings. Evaluation of total porosity (Ft), effective porosity (Fe), shale content (Vsh), water saturation (Sw), permeability (K), bulk volume of water (BVW), and net pay characteristics of Matulla Formation in the Muzhil wells showed the following weighted average values: 18-23%, 15-19%, 21-40%, 20-100%, 1.1-281 mD, 3-21% and 0-83 ft, respectively. The Log-derived lithology identification indicates that the major matrix component of the Matulla Formation is quartzose sandstone with minor shale and carbonate contents. The upper zone is a poor reservoir, while the middle and lower zones are considered good reservoirs in all studied wells. It is expected that Muzhil-2 will produce oil without water; however, Muzhil-1 and Muzhil-4 will produce oil with water; while Muzhil-7 and Muzhil-8 will produce water only. Originality. Detailed log-derived petrophysical evaluation, verified by core analysis and well tests (DST and MDT), construction of lithosaturation cross plots for each well and isoparametric petrophysical maps are performed for the first time for Matulla Formation in the Muzhil field. Practical implications. The obtained results on lithosaturation and petrophysics have expanded the knowledge about the characteristics of the Matulla Formation sediments, hosting promising reservoir intervals, and should be taken into account in future exploration and development of the Muzhil field.
