Two groups were established: the memory group, containing fish previously immunized with a 2,5% sheep anti-red cell, to generate the immune memory; and the naive group, containing fish that received a 0,65% saline solution. After 32 days, both groups were subjected to a new dose of the same antigen at the same concentration, volume, and inoculation via. The memory clones reactivation was correlated to the increase of the IgM positive cells in the spleen in the memory group at 0 day. The memory group showed an increase in the absolute number of lymphocytes at 21 days and an increase in the antibodies at 14 days after inoculation when compared to the naive group. The results suggest that the spleen may be a storage and reactivation place of memory B cells in Nile tilapia. The stress caused by management and poor environmental quality makes tilapia susceptible to infections, including by bacterium. The aim of this study was to evaluate the resistance of the Nile tilapia immunized with hyperimmune serum against S. agalactiae subsequently challenged with homologous strain of the same bacteria. After determining the DL 50 of S. agalactiae, 36 tilapias were distributed in 4 aquariums, 2 for the control group and 2 for the group via coelomic, inoculated with the DL 50 for anti-S. agalactiae antibodies production. On the 21st and 28th day blood was collected for the obtainment of hiperimmune serum used in passive transference. Then, 30 tilapias were distributed in 3 aquariums submitted to 3 treatments (GI: control; GII: immunized with inactivated-serum; GIII: immunized with non-inactivated serum). After 48 hours, 7, 14, 21, 28 and 35 days blood collections were done for anti-S. agalactiae antibodies titration using the direct agglutination test. For survival evaluation 30 tilapias were distributed in 3 aquariums and submitted to 3 treatments (GI: control; GII: immunized with inactivated-serum; GIII: immunized with non-inactivated serum). After 48 hours of inoculation tilapias were challenged with 100 mu L of S. agalactiae and monitored twice a day for 35 days. The results showed that titers of antibodies were detected by direct agglutination until the 21st day after passive transference and during the same period the protection between the groups immunized with inactivated serum and non-inactivated serum contending anti-S. agalactiae antibodies was of 80% after challenge with S. agalactiae. In the end, the serum-inactivated serum and active groups had 60 and 80% protection, respectively, while 100% of the fish in the control group developed severe signs of infection and were euthanized. There was no statistical difference in the survival rate between the immunized groups. Estudaram-se os valores de glicose plasmática, proteína total sérica e íons séricos (cálcio, potássio, magnésio, sódio e cloreto) em jovens de Colossomoma macropomum Cuvier 1818, Piaractus mesopotamicus Holmberg 1887 e híbrido tambacu (P. mesopotamicus x C. macropomum), mantidos em cultivo intensivo. As concentrações plasmáticas de glicose no híbrido tambacu foram maiores que em P. mesopotamicus e C. macropomum. Os níveis de proteínas totais em P. mesopotamicus foram maiores em C. macropomum e híbrido tambacu. O C. macropomum apresentou maior concentração de sódio e cloreto, ao passo que o P. mesopotamicus mostrou maior concentração de potássio e magnésio. Porém, os níveis de cálcio mostraram-se similares nas três espécies estudadas. O híbrido tambacu apresentou os menores níveis de proteínas totais e níveis intermediários de potássio, sódio, magnésio e cloreto quando comparado ao P. mesopotamicus e C. macropomum. Foram estabelecidos valores basais para peixes sadios criados em cativeiro, os quais poderão ser usados em estudos de comparação futura em populações selvagens de P. mesopotamicus e C. macropomum.

A percentagem de cafèzais deficientes em nitrogênio foi superior a 80% em todos os solos. No Podzolizado de Lins e Marília, o segundo elemento em falta foi o ferro. No Latossolo Roxo, depois do nitrogênio, a maior deficiência foi a de potássio e zinco; no Podzólico Vermelho Amarelo-Orto, a de boro.

Roughly, coffee fields are distributed on. the main types of soil in the State of São Paulo as follows: Podzolized Soils of Lins and Marilia, 70%; latosolic B "Terra Roxa", 15%; Ortho-Red Yellow Podzol, 10%; other types, 5%. This paper presents and discusses data on foliar analyses of coffee, plants cultivated on the 3 first soil types. It complements a previous survey made on red-yellow ortho podzol. Leaf samples were collected in the spring, summer and fall, from 134 "Mundo Novo" coffee fields. Besides the content of 12 essential elements, amount of Na and Al were also determined in these samples. Fe, Zn, Mn, and Cu were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The first 3 elements were determined in a wet digest of 0.5 g of dry plant material with a mixture of HNO3-H2SO4-HC10(4), in a final volume of 20 ml. Determination of Cu, on the other hand, required an extract obtained by dissolving in 10 ml of 0.25N HC1, ashes from 1.25 g of dry leaf tissue, incinerated at 500°C for 2 hours. The same extract used for Fe, Zn and Mn analyses served for Na and Al determination. However, content of Al was estimated by colorimetric method of Aluminon (1) whereas amount of Na was determined by flame emission photometry (2). The remaining elements - N, P, K, Ca Mg, S-S0(4), B and Mo - were determined according to the process described by Lott et al (4, 5). Evaluation of the nutritional condition of the coffee fields in each soil type was based upon the amount of the elements present in the leaf tissue sampled in the summer, compared to the levels considered as critical (4). The results of these evaluations showed a high proportion of plants defficient in nitrogen, in all soil types, indicating the importance of nitrogen fertilization. In Podzolized Soils of Lins and Marilia, attention should be given to Fe, Ca and Zn defficiency; there is also the possibility of toxic effects induced by excess of Mn in such soils. Besides N defficiency, latosolic B "Terra Roxa" had frequently defficiency of K and Zn, while Ortho-Red Yellow Podzol, of boron.
