Abstract

The effectiveness of zoledronic acid in prevention of new clinical fractures, to patients undergone hip fracture surgery is studied. Results concluded yearly infusion of zoledronic acid within 90 days of hip fracture surgery reduced risk of new clinical fractures raising survival rate.

Abstract

We present a new simple model capable of exploiting geostationary satellite visible images for the production of site/time-specific global and direct irradiances The new model features new clear sky global and direct irradiance functions, a new cloud-index-to-irradiance index function, and a new global-to-direct-irradiance conversion model. The model can also exploit operationally available snow cover resource data, while deriving local ground specular reflectance characteristics from the stream of incoming satellite data. Validation against 10 US locations representing a wide range of climatic environments indicates that model performance is systematically improved, compared to current visible-channel-based modeling practice.

In theory, the budget process provides multiple opportunities to articulate claims and ration resources in a methodical and rational manner. However, the American federal budget process of the 1980's was, in reality, far different from the procedural tranquility theory might suggest. This thesis studies the perceived need for reform of the federal budget process. It examines the proposals of the Executive Branch, of the Legislative Branch, and of selected experts on budget theory. The process, as enacted in the Budget Enforcement Act of 1990, is examined. The article discusses the features of the authentic Baroque performance as they apply to the Harp Concerto in B-flat, Concerto VI, Op. 4 composed by George Frederic Handel. It examines the five other organ concertos that depict Handel's style including chord voicings, tempos and candezas. It also emphasizes the role of harpists in supplementing the incomplete original versions of concertos with appropriate dynamics, countermelodies, and ornaments.

Abstract

This study examined the effects of a social skills curriculum, delivered by a school counselor through large group guidance, on the behavior of sixth-grade students. More specifically, the following question was addressed: How do the behaviors of sixth- grade students who receive instruction in social skills differ from those who do not? The nonequivalent control group design was utilized. Students were selected from five intact classrooms. Two of the five classes were randomly assigned to the treatment group and two were randomly assigned to the control group. The fifth class was not involved in the study. A total of 77 students participated in the study. The treatment group consisted of 38 students and the control group was made up of 39 students. The treatment was implemented once a week for ten weeks and each session lasted approximately 45 minutes. Pre-test and post-tests were administered using the Social Skills Rating System (SSRS). The teacher, as well as the students completed the SSRS. Analysis of variance was used to compare the pre and post-test scores between the treatment and control group. Paired Sample T-Tests were used to compute differences between pre and post-test scores for each variable on the Social Skills Rating System (SSRS) within the treatment group and within the control group. No statistically significant differences were found between the treatment and control groups. Qualitative data that was gathered portrayed different findings. The students, the teacher, and the counselor reported improvements in social skills after the social skills instruction was implemented.
