Elder abuse is a major problem that has physical, sexual, psychological, financial, and negligence dimensions. This can lead to physical ailments such as fractures and mental disorders such as anxiety and depression. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and related factors of elder abuse in Shahroud county, northeast of Iran. This cross-sectional study was conducted on 360 Iranian older people referred to Shahroud health centers by using cluster sampling method with inclusion criteria of; age over 60 years and mental and cognitive health and exclusion criteria of severe physical disease and disrupting the process of completing the questionnaire. Elder abuse was measured using a Vulnerability to Abuse Screening Scale (VASS) with a score higher than 2 and the relationship between age, gender, education, housing status, number of children, employment status, marital status, insurance status, and living arrangement with elder abuse was examined in a logistic regression model. The prevalence of elder abuse was 38.6%. Living with spouse and children (OR = 0.20) and living with spouse (OR = 0.43) were associated with lower risk of elder abuse compared with living alone in the regression model. A significant number of Iranian older people are exposed to abuse and health care systems need to take steps to reduce this social problem. Introduction: The present research carried out to assess the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) among medical sciences students. Methods: This methodological study took place at Shahroud and Semnan Universities of Medical Sciences in Iran. A sample of 380 medical sciences students was selected through convenience sampling. The study assessed face and content validity, and maximum likelihood explanatory factor analysis (MLEFA) was performed. To evaluate the proposed model by MLEFA, confirmatory factor analysis was carried out. Reliability was examined using Cronbach's alpha coefficient, McDonald's omega, and the intra-class correlation coefficient. Results: The students had an average age of 22.49 ± 2.72 years. The maximum likelihood explanatory factor analysis (MLEFA) divided the RSES into two components: positive self-esteem and negative self-esteem, which together explained 50.7% of the total variance. Confirmatory factor analysis showed that the model fit the observed data well. The resulting subscales exhibited high internal consistency and stability. Conclusion: The findings of the current study indicate that the Persian version of the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale possesses acceptable validity and reliability among Iranian medical sciences students. Research question/aim/objectives: Providing care for hospitalized children causes moral distress to nurses. Employee participation in discovering and solving the everyday problems of the workplace is one of the ways to hear the voices of nurses. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of participatory management programs on perceived organizational support and moral distress in pediatric nurses. Research design: A quasi-experimental study. Participants and research context: The present study was conducted on 114 pediatric nurses in Iran. Data were collected using the Perceived Organizational Support Scale and the Moral Distress Scale of nurses. The intervention included implementing a participatory management program in three treatment departments that were randomly selected and it lasted 4 months. Participatory management was at the level of problem-solving with a focus on investigating, solving, and correcting issues and problems of work shifts and departments concerning the physical environment, equipment of the department, improvement of work processes, and team cooperation. In the control group, ordinary organizational approaches to problem-solving were used. Ethical considerations: This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Mashhad School of Nursing and Midwifery. Informed consent was obtained from the study participants. Findings/results: Based on the results, both groups were homogenous before the intervention in terms of moral distress and perceived organizational support. The results showed that the moral distress mean scores in the intervention group decreased from 1.45 (0.52) to 1.03 (0.37) after the intervention. Also, the score of the perceived organizational support was 2.12 (1.2) increased after the intervention to 2.68 (1.10) in the intervention group. Conclusions: It was found that the participation of nurses in the problem-solving process to solve daily workplace issues can be effective in increasing their perceived organizational support and reducing their moral distress. This study aimed to investigate the health care providers' attitudes toward the Do-Not-Resuscitate order (DNR) in COVID-19 patients. This study was conducted on 332 health care providers (HCPs) at the COVID-19 referral hospital in Shahroud, Iran by convenience sampling method. The study tools included a demographic information form and the DNR attitude questionnaire. Significance level was considered 0.05 for all tests. The mean scores of attitudes toward DNR order, the procedure of DNR, some aspects of passive euthanasia, and religious and cultural factors were 25.27 ± 2.78, 40.61 ± 5.99, 11.26 ± 2.51, and 6.12 ± 1.27, respectively. The death of relatives due to COVID-19 and female gender were associated with high and low scores of attitudes toward DNR order, respectively. Extended working hours and more work experience were correlated with high scores of DNR procedure. The history of COVID-19 increased the mean score of attitudes toward some aspects of passive euthanasia. In addition, an increase in following COVID-19 news decreased the score of religious and cultural factors affecting DNR order. Despite the legal ban on implementation of the DNR in Iran, the attitude of Iranian HCPs toward this was positive in COVID-19 patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article discusses a randomized controlled trial that evaluated the effect of guided reflection on self-care in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. The study was conducted in northern Iran and included 94 participants who were divided into guided reflection and control groups. The intervention group received guided reflection steps, while the control group received routine training. The results showed a significant increase in self-care scores in the guided reflection group compared to the control group. The study suggests that guided reflection can improve self-care behaviors in patients undergoing CABG surgery. [Extracted from the article]

Aim: This research investigated the effectiveness of simulated video on test anxiety in the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) among nursing and midwifery students. Design: A quasi‐experimental study with a two‐group pre‐test and post‐test design. Methods: This study was conducted on 118 nursing and midwifery students in Shahroud northeast of Iran in 2019 using the census sampling method. The intervention group received a 15‐minute OSCE simulation video half an hour before the test. Data were collected using the Sarason test anxiety questionnaire in two stages: one week before the test and after the simulation film was screened. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics (Independent t‐test, Chi‐square, Exact fisher and Paired t‐test). Results: At baseline, no significant difference was observed between groups in the total mean score of test anxiety. Prolonged grief disorder has recently been officially introduced as a new mental disorder. This study aimed to validate the Persian version of the revised Prolonged Grief Scale (PG-13-R). This study was conducted among the general population in Shahroud, Iran, during 2023. Employing face and content validity, along with exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (EFA), the study validates the PG-13-R. Average variance extracted value showed an acceptable convergent validity. The EFA reveals a singular factor structure explaining 60.541% of the variance in prolonged grief disorder, and the confirmatory factor analysis demonstrates an excellent model fit. Internal consistency, evaluated through Cronbach’s alpha and MacDonald’s omega, highlights the scale’s reliability. The Persian version of PG-13-R had acceptable composite reliability. Stability is confirmed by an intra-class correlation coefficient. In conclusion, the Persian PG-13-R displays satisfactory validity and reliability to assessing prolonged grief symptoms in the Iranian population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Many women in recent years have been willing to undergo puncture surgery for childbirth, which, like other surgeries, has physical and psychological side effects such as incision, infertility, chronic pain, and anxiety. Therefore, it is important to reduce and improve these side effects. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of foot massage with orange essential oil on anxiety in women undergoing cesarean section. This randomized clinical trial study was conducted in 2019 on 80 women referred to Bahar Shahroud Hospital after cesarean section surgery. The samples were divided into two groups by intervention (foot massage with orange essential oil) and control (foot massage without orange essential oil). The Spielberger scale was used to determine anxiety scores after cesarean section. In the intervention group, the feet were massaged with orange essential oil, and in the control group, the orange essential oil massage was performed without oil. Anxiety before, immediately after, and 60 min after the intervention was measured and evaluated in both groups. Data analysis was performed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Significant levels were considered for all statistical tests (p<0.05). The anxiety score before the intervention in the two groups of intervention and control was 57.12 ± 3.12 and 57.07 ± 3.54, respectively, which were not significantly different, but immediately after the intervention, the anxiety scores in both groups decreased significantly so that there was a further decrease in the intervention group (52.10 ± 4.75 and 56.02 ± 3.77), 1 h after the intervention, the anxiety score in the intervention group decreased compared to the previous stage and increased in the control group (50.40 ± 3.74 and 56.85 ± 4.27). Foot massage with orange essential oil can probably be effective as a proper nursing intervention in reducing anxiety after cesarean section surgery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Family caregivers of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) are at risk of care burden that may lead to a detrimental effect on their quality of life (QoL), physical and mental well-being. This study aimed to determine the effect of the family-centered empowerment model (FCEM) on the care burden of caregivers of patients with MS., Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted using convenience sampling on 60 caregivers of patients referring to the Multiple Sclerosis Clinic in Ghaem Hospital, Mashhad, Iran. The participants were assigned to FCEM and control groups based on the days they were referred to the MS clinic. Data collection tools included the Zarit Caregiver Burden Inventory (CBI), completed in the intervention and control groups before and 1 month after the intervention. The support based on FCEM was provided during eight 45-60-min sessions, and the control group received the medical center's routine training. Data were analyzed by Chi-square, independent t -test, analysis of covariance, and repeated measure tests., Results: The results of the present study showed that all demographic characteristics were homogeneous at the baseline. Before the intervention, no significant difference was observed between the two groups regarding mean scores of care burden. Based on the repeated measure test, there was no significant treatment and time interaction in changes in care burden., Conclusion: The FCEM has no significant effect in alleviating the care burden.
