Although consumers generally accept and care about environmental issues, consumers have not adjusted their behavior accordingly. Based on the diamond model theory, this study proposes and tests the direct impact of personal green commitments on low-carbon travel motivation and constraint, and the possibility of subsequent low-carbon travel intention. According to the results of 358 valid questionnaire surveys, this study shows that green commitments positively affect the low-carbon travel motivation and intention, while negatively affecting the low-carbon travel constraint. The low-carbon travel motivation has some mediating effects. The research results can be used as a reference by relevant managers of the tourism industry to make changes in the content of travel services that are more suitable for specific populations.

The strategy of few or no-phosphorus fertilization in rice season but more in wheat season can effectively increase phosphorus use efficiency and reduce phosphorus loss through runoff and leaching. It remains unknown whether the lack of phosphorus will affect greenhouse gas emission in the rice season. Straw returning to soil can supplement soil nutrients required for crop growth, fertilize soil, and improve soil quality. To explore the long-term effect of straw returning on soil total nitrogen and its composition, herein, five treatments including no rice straw + no wheat straw returning (NRW), no rice straw + all wheat straw returning (W), all rice straw + no wheat straw returning (R), half rice straw + half wheat straw returning (HRW), and all rice straw + all wheat straw returning (ARW) were conducted in triplicate in Taihu Lake region, China. The effects of both straw amount and type were examined. Compared with the results obtained in 2007, the results herein obtained in 2017 showed that after 10 years of straw returning, soil total nitrogen and heavy fraction nitrogen increased, while light fraction organic matter decreased. Non-point pollution is becoming one of the main causes of the degradation of rural environment in China. A systematic strategy encompassing source reduction, process retention, nutrient reuse, and water restoration for controlling agricultural non-point source pollution was applied to a 1.5 km2 intensive rice-wheat rotation area at Yaoqiao county, Zhenjiang city, Jiangsu Province, in the downstream reach of the Yangtze River, China, from 2016 to 2018. The results showed that the use of organic and controlled-release fertilizers reduced the total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) input for rice and wheat by 20 % and 27 %, respectively, without any yield loss. The N and P concentration in the ecological ditches declined by 8%–50.4% for TN and 12%–69.7% for TP in comparison with that in the control ditches, and then further declined after the purification of eco-ponds. The removal efficiency was positive related with the N and P centration of inflow. TN concentration in the drainage water finally flow into the Shangshe River was lower than 2 mg/L during three out of 19 times. The river water quality was distinctly improved, wherein the TN, NH4+-N, TP, and chemical oxygen demand (CODCr) concentrations were lower by 28.9 %, 30.4 %, 21.9 %, and 35.5 %, respectively following implementation of ecological water restoration technologies. The water quality improvement was mainly attributed to reduced pollutant load from agricultural fields and the aquatic plant uptake. This study found that the systematic “4R” approach is a promising method for decreasing the N and P loads from agricultural fields and improving the downstream water eutrophication problem, and can be extended to other agricultural intensive regions.

Phosphorus (P) is an important macronutrient for plant but can also cause potential environmental risk. In this paper, we studied the long-term fertilizer experiment (started 1980) to assess the soil P dynamic, balance, critical P value and the crop yield response in Taihu Lake region, China. To avoid the effect of nitrogen (N) and potassium (K), only the following treatments were chosen for subsequent discussion, including: C0 (control treatment without any fertilizer or organic manure), CNK treatment (mineral N and K only), CNPK (balanced fertilization with mineral N, P and K), MNK (integrated organic manure and mineral N and K), and MNPK (organic manure plus balanced fertilization). The results revealed that the response of wheat yield was more sensitive than rice, and no significant differences of crop yield had been detected among MNK, CNPK and MNPK until 2013. Dynamic and balance of soil total P (TP) and Olsen-P showed soil TP pool was enlarged significantly over consistent fertilization. However, the diminishing marginal utility of soil Olsen-P was also found, indicating that high-level P application in the present condition could not increase soil Olsen-P contents anymore. Linear-linear and Mitscherlich models were used to estimate the critical value of Olsen-P for crops. The average critical P value for rice and wheat was 3.40 and 4.08 mg kg −1 , respectively. The smaller critical P value than in uplands indicated a stronger ability of P supply for crops in this paddy soil. We concluded that no more mineral P should be applied in rice-wheat system in Taihu Lake region if soil Olsen-P is higher than the critical P value. The agricultural technique and management referring to activate the plant-available P pool are also considerable, such as integrated use of low-P organic manure with mineral N and K.

Elodea nuttallii is widely used in Chinese mitten crab (CMC) rearing practice, but it is not a native aquatic plant and cannot endure high temperature. Thus, large E. nuttallii mortality and water deterioration events could occur during high-temperature seasons. The aim of this study was to identify the use of local macrophytes in CMC rearing practice, including Ipomoea aquatic and Oryza sativa. A completely randomized field experiment was conducted to investigate the crab yield, water quality, bacterioplankton community and functions in the three different systems (E. nuttallii, I. aquatic, and O. sativa). Average crab yields in the different macrophyte systems did not differ significantly. The I. aquatic and O. sativa systems significantly decreased the total nitrogen and nitrate-N quantities in the outflow waters during the rearing period compared to the E. nuttallii system, and the I. aquatic and O. sativa plants assimilated more nitrogen than the E. nuttallii plant. Moreover, the significant changes of bacterioplankton abundances and biodiversity in the three systems implied that cleanliness of rearing waters was concomitantly attributed to the differential microbial community and functions. In addition, principle component analysis successfully differentiated the bacterioplankton communities of the three macrophytes systems. Environmental factor fitting and the co-occurrence network analyses indicated that pH was the driver of bacterioplankton community structure. Functional predictions using PICRUSt (v.1.1.3) software based on evolutionary modeling indicated a higher potential for microbial denitrification in the I. aquatic and O. sativa systems. Notably, the O. sativa plants stopped growing in the middle of the rearing period. Thus, the I. aquatic system rather than the O. sativa system could be a feasible and environmental-friendly alternative to the E. nuttallii system in CMC rearing practice.

A long-term experiment set up in 1980 compared the effects of applying manures and chemical fertilizers on a paddy soil in the Taihu Lake region, China. Of the fourteen randomly distributed treatments consisting of different combinations of organic manure, inorganic nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K), and rice straw, eight were selected for the present study in 2007. Application of organic manure plus straw significantly increased soil organic carbon (SOC) content of the topsoil (0-10 cm) compared to that of chemical fertilizers alone. The content of SOC was relatively stable in the 10-30 cm layer in the chemical fertilizer treatments and in the 20-40 cm layer in the manure treatments. The stable carbon isotope ratio (δ 13 C ) ranged from −24% to −28% and increased gradually with depth. The content of SOC was significantly ( P 0.05) negatively correlated with d 13 C. In the 0-20 cm layer, the d 13 C value significantly decreased in the treatments of manure alone (M), manure and chemical N and P fertilizers (MNP), manure and chemical N, P, and K fertilizers (MNPK), manure, rice straw, and chemical N fertilizer (MRN), and chemical N fertilizer and rice straw (CNR), as compared with the no-fertilizer control. In the 30-50 cm layer, however, the ratio significantly increased in all the treatments except Treatment CNR. Mineralization of organic C peaked in the first 2-4 d of incubation and gradually leveled off thereafter over the first 3 weeks, being faster in the manure treatments than the chemical fertilizer treatments. The average rate of mineralization varied from 55.36 to 75.46 mL CO 2 kg −1 d −1 and that of stable mineralization from 10 to 20 mL CO 2 kg −1 d −1 . In eight weeks of incubation, cumulative mineralization was always higher in the manure treatments than the chemical fertilizer treatments, being the highest in Treatment MRN. Combined humus in the soil was mainly (over 50%) composed of tightly combined fraction. The loosely combined humus and its ratio of humic acid (HA) to fulvic acid (FA) significantly increased with long-term application of organic manure and chemical fertilizers. It could be concluded that the cycle of organic C in the paddy soil ecosystem studied was stable over the long-term application of fertilizers and continued cultivation.

The present paper summarizes the results from a long-term experiment setup in 1980 in the Taihu Lake region, China, to address the yield sustainability, the dynamic changes of soil organic carbon (SOC) storage, and soil fertility in the rice–wheat ecosystem. Treatments in three replicates comprising manure-treated and chemical fertilizer-treated groups (two factors), each having seven sub-treatments of different combinations of inorganic nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), and rice straw, were randomly distributed. Results showed that the treatments of manure (pig manure from 1980 to 1996 and oil rape cake thereafter) + N + P + K (MNPK) and chemical fertilizer + N + P + K (CNPK) produced the highest and the most stable yields for both rice and wheat within the respective fertilizer treatment group. Potassium fertilization was necessary for yield sustainability in the ecosystem. Treatments of straw (as rice straw) + N (CRN) and manure + straw + N (MRN) produced more stable yield of rice but less stable of wheat. It was therefore recommended that straw should be only incorporated during the rice season. SOC contents in all treatments showed increasing trends over the period, even in the control treatment. Predicted SOC in chemical fertilizer-treated plots (mostly yet attainable) ranged from 16 to 18 g C kg−1, indicating the high carbon (C) sequestration potential of the soil as compared to the initial SOC. SOC in manure- or straw-treated plots ranged from 17 to 19 g C kg−1, which had been attained roughly 10 years after the experiment was initiated. Nutrient balance sheet showed that there was P surplus in all P-treated plots and a steady increase in Olsen-P over a 24-year period in 0–15 cm soil, which contributed little to crop yield increases. It was therefore suggested that P fertilization rate should be decreased to 30–40 kg P ha−1 year−1. Comparison of yields among the treatments showed that wheat was more responsive to P fertilizer than rice. Thus P fertilizer should be preferably applied to wheat. Soil pH decrease was significant over the 24-year period and was not correlated with fertilizer treatments. The overall recommendation is to incorporate straw at 4,500 kg ha−1 year−1 during the rice season only, with additional 190 kg N ha−1 year−1, 30–40 kg P ha−1 year−1 mainly during the rice season, and 150–160 kg K ha−1 year−1. Further research on the unusual P supply capacity of the soil is needed.

Biodegradable copolymers with molecule inclusion ability was prepared by introduction of β-cyclodextrin into poly(aspartic acid) matrices. The ibuprofen loading and dissolution properties of poly(aspartic acid)–β-cyclodextrin were investigated.

A novel insoluble bimodal porous polymer containing β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) was prepared to adsorb aromatic amine compound. The process involved copolymerization of styrene and methyl methacrylate with a maleic acid derivative of β-CD, subsequently, above formed copolymer was foamed by supercritical CO2. The chemical properties and physical structure of obtained copolymer was analyzed using Fourier transform infrared spectra, Thermal gravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, and N2 adsorption techniques. The inclusion adsorption of aromatic amine compounds on β-CD copolymer was carried out in a batch system. The quantities of aromatic amine compounds adsorbed on β-CD copolymer reached equilibrium within 60 min. The adsorption kinetic could be fitted to a pseudo-second-order kinetic equation, and the linear correlation coefficients varied from 0.9828 to 0.9935. With the influence of molecular structure and hydrophobicity of the aromatic amine compound, the sequence of quantity of aromatic amine compounds adsorbed on β-CD copolymer is p-toluidine > aniline > benzidine > o-toluidine. The adsorption equilibrium data of aromatic amine compound adsorbed on β-CD copolymer were fitted to Freundlich and Langmuir models, respectively. The linear correlation coefficients of Langmuir model varied from 0.9516 to 0.9940, and the linear correlation coefficients of Freundlich varied from 0.9752 to 0.9976. It is concluded that Freundlich model fits better than Langmuir model, because the adsorption of aromatic amine compound on β-CD copolymer is a chemical process. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Soil samples were collected from an experimental paddy field with long-term (26 years) fertilization in Taihu Lake region of Jiangsu Province to study the effects of different fertilization on the organic carbon distribution and stable carbon isotope natural abundance (delta 13C) in the soil profile, and on the humus composition. The results showed that long-term fertilization increased the organic carbon content in top soil significantly, and there was a significantly negative exponential correlation between soil organic carbon content and soil depth (P0.01). The organic carbon content in 10-30 cm soil layer under chemical fertilizations and in 20-40 cm soil layer under organic fertilizations was relatively stable. Soil delta 13C increased gradually with soil depth, its variation range being from -24% per thousand to -28 per thousand, and had a significantly negative linear correlation with soil organic carbon content (P0.05). In 0-20 cm soil layer, the delta 13C in treatments organic manure (M), M + NP, M + NPK, M + straw (R) + N, and R + N decreased significantly; while in 30-50 cm soil layer, the delta 13C in all organic fertilization treatments except R + N increased significantly. Tightly combined humus (humin) was the main humus composition in the soil, occupying 50% or more, and the rest were loosely and stably combined humus. Long-term fertilization increased the content of loosely combined humus and the ratio of humic acid (HA) to fulvic acid (FA).
