During takeoff, the harmonic noise of the turbofan is the main acoustic nuisance for people near airports. Much research has been done to achieve active noise control of turbofans with loudspeakers or piezo actuators as noise suppression sources. However, the required fragility, and weight and volume penalty make them unsuitable for engine nacelle applications. On the other hand, electro-pneumatic sound sources (sirens or air modulators) are good candidates for generating the required high noise control sound pressure level, but they are not designed for active noise control applications. Therefore, an alternative solution, called the Harmonic Acoustic Pneumatic Source (HAPS), has been designed to generate a high harmonic noise level controllable in amplitude, phase and frequency. The specificity of the HAPS is to use a flow chopper to generate a pulsed jet at a given frequency and a servo-valve to control its amplitude. This study presents the HAPS composed of a high-pressure pneumatic air source, a flow chopper using a rotating perforated cage and a dedicated exhaust. The fundamental equation of the pneumatic speaker is used to define the time-varying orifice as the generator of a periodic pressure source with a built-in internal impedance. To implement phase control of the generated sound, a phase-locked loop (PLL) controls the instantaneous angle of the rotating cage. Thus, control of the HAPS requires 2 slow-time signals: one for amplitude (position of the servo-valve) and the second for phase (via the PLL). However, for active noise control, the HAPS control is presented as a mechanical modulator driven by two slowly varying signals (the real and imaginary parts of the complex value envelope of the command). The mechanical time responses of the servo valve and the rotating cage motor imply a narrow bandwidth centered on the modulation frequency. The experimental results presented are obtained on a dedicated test bench for different frequencies. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is a type of automatic transmission system that uses belts and pulleys to provide an infinite number of gear ratios. The system consists of two pulleys: a primary drive pulley and a secondary drive pulley, each with a fixed and a moving sheave. In snowmobiles, he primary pulley is connected to the crankshaft of a two-stroke engine, while the secondary pulley is connected to the track element. The use of a two-stroke combustion engine can cause torque fluctuations to propagate through the crankshaft to the CVT, resulting in excessive vibration and noise levels. To evaluate the vibroacoustic emissions of CVTs, alternative methods have been developed due to the limitations of road noise testing. One such method is to use an adaptive controller on a dynamometer to perform a repeatable acceleration phase, allowing for efficient and sophisticated acoustic analysis. Vold-Kalman order tracking (VKF-OT) with a phase-locked loop (PLL) is used to analyze the non-stationary periodic components of the noise generated by the CVT. This study conducted dynamometer experiments to identify the noise generated by the CVT during the acceleration phase. However, the analysis of the acoustic data can be difficult due to the lack of repeatability of the speed ramps during dynamometer tests. To solve this problem, post-processing methods have been proposed to synchronize the acoustic measurements taken at different speed ramps. The objective is to develop an adaptive approach to identify the prominent noise order, allowing a comparison of vibroacoustic performance between different CVT designs. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is the third leading cause of death worldwide, with 3 million in 2019. Medical devices for high-frequency chest compression (HFCC) therapy are currently the most common approach to relieve COPD symptoms in the lungs. The resonance frequency of the human thorax is one of the most influential parameters for HFCC to act on the viscoelastic, shearthinning, and thixotropic properties of bronchial mucus for airway clearance therapy (ACT). In this study, a 3D computed tomography-based finite element analysis (CT/FEA) is done by COMSOL Multiphysics® 6.1 under the frequency domain with the purpose of examining the resonance frequency and the behaviour of lungs under HFCC therapy. An excitation under 140 dBSPL with a frequency range between 5 and 100 Hz is considered on the back-chest surface. As for comparison, the maximum kinetic energy density is 3.3 times higher than the kinetic energy density for the whole thorax because of the poroviscoelastic physical properties of the lungs. As active care to babies born at 22 weeks of gestation is becoming a reality in Canada. Invasive mechanical ventilation is always required for the survival. The lack of surfactant in their lungs makes it difficult to fill them with air. On the other hand, in total liquid ventilation (TLV), the lungs are filled with a breathable perfluorocarbon liquid (PFC) while the liquid ventilator forces the PFC in and out of the lungs with a pumping system. For this purpose, the research group Inolivent has developed a liquid ventilator, Inolivent-8, composed of 3 units. The control unit controls the ventilator and interacts with the clinician via a graphical user interface. The PFC circulation unit (PCU) is the pumping system using two piston-syringe pumps and four pinch-valves. L’utilisation des ultrasons de puissance dans l’air constitue un champ de recherche grandissant de l’acoustique car de nombreuses applications lui sont découvertes (lévitation acoustique, analyse non destructive de matériaux, séchage par ultrasons et traitements médicaux). Dans ces applications, le recours aux ultrasons de puissance est limité car les technologies actuelles ne permettent pas de générer de hauts niveaux sonores (>120 dB SPL) au-delà de 40 kHz. De plus, elles sont coûteuses et ne permettent pas d’être utilisées sur une large bande de fréquence tout en permettant un contrôle de phase et de l’amplitude. C’est pourquoi, une nouvelle source ultrasonore de puissance remplissant les objectifs suivant permettraient d’étendre les applications des ultrasons dans l’air : – atteindre un minimum de 20 kHz – avoir un niveau sonore de 120 dB à 0.5 m – être large bande de : 20 kHz à 60 kHz Pour réponde à ces objectifs, le développement d’une source ultrasonore pneumatique est effectué. Elle permettrait de répondre à des besoins grandissants et d’étendre les possibilités d’utilisation des ultrasons de puissance à d’autres champs de l’ingénierie et de la science. Le développement de cette nouvelle source a été fait selon une approche itérative ayant pour objectif la réalisation d’une preuve de concept. Pour ce faire, un modèle analytique a été adapté. Ce modèle ne couvrant pas le cas étudier un modèle numérique a été effectué. Pour finir des phases de conception ont été réalisées grâce à la fabrication additive. Elles ont été suivies de phases expérimentales pour caractériser la source ultrasonore. Les résultats expérimentaux ont permis de démontrer les performances du système en atteignant des niveaux de pressions acoustiques (SPL) de 122 dB et 125 dB respectivement pour des pressions dans le plenum de 6 Psi et 36 Psi et pour la fréquence fondamentale. Les motoneiges sont équipées de moteurs à deux temps et de transmissions à variation continue (CVT), qui assurent une transmission de puissance optimale à la chenille de la motoneige en adaptant la vitesse de rotation des engrenages aux conditions de conduite. Cependant, lors des phases d’accélération constante, la CVT peut générer du bruit qui peut affecter le confort de conduite et la perception sonore du conducteur. Pour mieux analyser l’influence de la CVT sur l’émission acoustique du véhicule, une analyse vibroacoustique transitoire de la CVT est nécessaire. Pour ce faire, une méthode d’analyse d’ordre a été mise en place pour générer des conditions d’accélération susceptibles d’exciter la CVT. Ces conditions sont par la suite reproduites sur un banc de test moteur dynamique en utilisant une commande adaptative. Le suivi d’ordre est effectué en utilisant la méthode Vold- Kalman (VKF-OT) avec une boucle à verrouillage de phase (PLL), qui permet d’analyser les composantes de bruit périodique non stationnaire générées par la CVT. Des résultats expérimentaux ont été obtenus en utilisant deux CVT, l’une avec un amortisseur et l’autre sans. To do so, an order analysis method has been developed to generate acceleration conditions capable of exciting the CVT. These conditions are then reproduced on a dynamic engine test bench using adaptive control. Order tracking is performed using the Vold-Kalman method (VKFOT) with a phase-locked loop (PLL), which allows analyzing the non-stationary periodic noise components generated by the CVT. Experimental results were obtained using two CVTs, one with a damper and one without. These results demonstrated the effectiveness of this method in analyzing the attenuation of certain lower-order intensity during the acceleration phase.
