The existing paired t -test under classical statistics cannot be applied when the data is obtained from the complex process, having interval, uncertainty, indeterminacy, and incompleteness. In this paper, the modification of the paired t -test under neutrosophic statistics is proposed. The testing criterion of the proposed paired t -test is given. The application of the proposed paired t -test is given using the interval quality control of clinical laboratory data. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) have now spawned a new field within health care and health science research. These new predictive analytics tools are starting to change various facets of our clinical care domains including the practice of laboratory medicine. Many of these ML tools and studies are also starting to populate our literature landscape as we know it but unfamiliarity of the average reader to the basic knowledge and critical concepts within AI/ML is now demanding a need to better prepare our audience to such relatively unfamiliar concepts. A fundamental knowledge of such platforms will inevitably enhance cross-disciplinary literacy and ultimately lead to enhanced integration and understanding of such tools within our discipline. In this review, we provide a general outline of AI/ML along with an overview of the fundamental concepts of ML categories, specifically supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning. Additionally, since the vast majority of our current approaches within ML in laboratory medicine and health care involve supervised algorithms, we will predominantly concentrate on such platforms. Finally, the need for making such tools more accessible to the average investigator is becoming a major driving force for the need of automation within these ML platforms. This has now given rise to the automated ML (Auto-ML) world which will undoubtedly help shape the future of ML within health care. Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has imperiled human lives and global infrastructure since the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 in China. The current review meticulously summarizes the COVID-19 pandemic situation through the lens of science from the inception of the outbreak to the current progression, which is valuable to mitigate the current pandemic situation., Methods: We reviewed all the relevant literature available on PubMed, Web of Sciences, Google Scholar, and World Health Organization (WHO) website related to COVID-19 from the inception of the outbreak to 18 June 2020. We selected ninety different scientific studies and reports to compile the current review., Results: Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a betacoronavirus with four major structural proteins encoded by S, M, E, and N genes and distinct in morphology. The potential provenance of SARS-Cov-2 is zoonotic, and it binds to the host cell receptors by spike protein. The SARS-CoV-2 infectious cycle carries on through direct contact, air, inanimate objects, and contaminated surfaces. The reproductive number (R0) of SARS-CoV-2 is 2 to 3.5, representing that one infected patient can spread this virus to two to three people. An expeditious laboratory diagnosis has a pivotal role in patient management and prevention. Due to the lack of definitive treatment, symptomatic medication regimen and supportive organ therapies are adapted for debilitated patients., Conclusions: Nucleoside analogs and protease-inhibitors have approved to attenuate the viral infection until the discovery of a specific drug. The other treatment strategies comprise antimalarial drugs, monoclonal antibodies, and glucocorticoids. The use of alcoholic scrubs, sodium hypochlorite, masks, social distancing, and quarantine the affected individual is inevitable to eradicate the infection vector and to break the transmission path.

Organoids offer an elegant approach to model human diseases and test new drugs. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) whose incidence has dramatically increased in recent years with the rise of obesity, is defined by triglyceride accumulation in hepatocytes, inflammation, liver injury, and progression to fibrosis. There is currently no approved therapy but many pathways are being explored. • The Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine was first published in 1926 as a specialty journal of the American Medical Association. It became the official journal of the College of American Pathologists in 1995. Under the dynamic leadership of its most recent editor-in-chief, Philip T. Cagle, MD, the Archives has dramatically increased its impact factor and become the most widely read general pathology journal. Dr. Cagle has consistently added leading pathologists to the editorial board, and the collective expertise of these individuals is clearly evident in new, cutting-edge journal masthead sections. The Archives has featured innovative content in the field of digital pathology, including articles on the utilization of smart phones in pathology and the incorporation of whole-slide images and videos into the content of articles. During the current editorial board's tenure, special sections were introduced and have proven immensely popular with the journal's readership. As the Archives celebrates its 94th anniversary, its editorial board remains committed to providing insightful and relevant medical knowledge. Background: Systematic reviews (SRs) play a critical role in evidence-based medicine., Objective: To determine the publication trends of SRs in clinical laboratory science (CLS)., Methods: We searched Scopus to identify all reviews published in the top 20 CLS journals during the past 10 years (2008-2017). We determined year of publication, review type (systematic vs narrative), citations, and whether the review was accompanied by a meta-analysis (MA)., Results: We identified 2934 reviews. Of these, 2833 (96.6%) were narrative reviews, and 98 (3.3%) were SRs. A total of 67 (66.3%) of the SRs were accompanied by a MA. Three journals accounted for 68 of 98 (69.4%) SRs. The percentage of SRs (relative to all reviews) has increased during the past decade (P = .01). Clinical metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS), the comprehensive analysis of microbial and host genetic material (DNA and RNA) in samples from patients, is rapidly moving from research to clinical laboratories. This emerging approach is changing how physicians diagnose and treat infectious disease, with applications spanning a wide range of areas, including antimicrobial resistance, the microbiome, human host gene expression (transcriptomics) and oncology. Here, we focus on the challenges of implementing mNGS in the clinical laboratory and address potential solutions for maximizing its impact on patient care and public health.

The role of laboratory medicine is essential in healthcare, since in vitro diagnostic testing represents now an unavoidable part of reasoning and clinical decision making. Laboratory tests are an essential part of most care pathways, aimed at optimizing resource utilization and improving patient outcome. The activity of laboratory professionals is interconnected with all medical disciplines, and provides a crucial support for ordering the right test, for the right patient and at the right time, but also helps interpreting and using laboratory data. Although recent advancement in laboratory medicine, catalyzed by technical innovations and development of innovative tests, have promoted a substantial revolution in the organization of clinical laboratories, the future of this profession seems still ambiguous. We have hence developed a "manifesto" of laboratory medicine, meant to promote an innovative prospect of our discipline and encouraging the establishment of a new generation of laboratory professionals and managers.

Background: Quality control charts (Levey Jennings Charts) are based on estimates of variation. There are two general approaches for estimating variation: those based on short-term variation and those based on long-term variation. We have observed that clinical laboratory science (CLS) tends to estimate variation using long-term variation but that most other fields use short-term variation. The objective of this study is to compare these two methods of estimating process variation, compare the accuracy of control limits generated by each method, and explore whether it would be useful for clinical laboratories to adopt methods used in other fields., Methods: We conducted a literature review to compare recommendations for methods for estimation of variation in CLS with other fields. We searched textbooks for suggested methods and also searched the primary literature for references to methods associated with short-term and long-term variation. We provide theoretical results from statistics to show that, in theory, short-term estimates can differ from long-term estimates of variation. We used simulation studies to show that one can construct examples where short-term and long-term estimates of variation lead to significant differences in control limits. Finally, we show laboratory data comparing short-term and long-term estimates of variation., Results: We found that practice in CLS differs from other fields. We found no references to methods based on short-term variation in CLS textbooks and only one reference in the primary literature. In contrast, standard quality control (QC) texts recommend methods based on short-term variation and the primary literature makes frequent reference to such methods. We found statistical papers that show that, in theory, estimates based on long-term variation can produce inflated estimates of process variation. We used simulation to show that such examples can be constructed. We examined 95 QC charts and found that in 93 cases, there were significant differences between short-term and long-term estimates of variation. The ratio of long-term to short-term variation was greater than 1.5 in 18% of cases., Conclusion: Estimates of variation based on short-term and long-term variation can lead to significant differences in estimates. The presence of interfering substances like free hemoglobin, bilirubin or lipids compromises sample quality and potentially affects laboratory analysis and test results. Recently, the use of serum indices for objectively assessing sample quality has become commonplace and many preanalytical platforms, as well as clinical chemistry and coagulation analyzers, are now equipped with this analytical feature. Nevertheless, some important drawbacks remain in this practice, mainly pertaining the measurement procedure, the approach for reporting interference data, the definition of objective thresholds of interference after which test results may be biased, and the lack of harmonized practices for describing how interference cut-offs have been identified. Therefore, this document aims to discuss these important caveats and propose some reliable solutions that may be adopted by manufacturers for increasing worldwide harmonization of serum indices., (Copyright © 2018. In the mammalian lower urinary tract, there is a reciprocal relationship between the contractile state of the bladder and urethra. As the bladder fills with urine, it remains relaxed to accommodate increases in volume, while the urethra remains contracted to prevent leakage of urine from the bladder to the exterior. Disruptions to the normal contractile state of the bladder and urethra can lead to abnormal micturition patterns and urinary incontinence. While both the bladder and urethra are smooth-muscle organs, they are differentially contracted by input from cholinergic and sympathetic nerves, respectively. The laboratory practical described here provides an experiential approach to understanding the anatomy of the lower urinary tract. Several key factors in urinary tract physiology are outlined, e.g., the bladder is contracted by activation of the parasympathetic pathway via cholinergic stimulation on muscarinic receptors, whereas the urethra is contracted by activation of the sympathetic pathway via adrenergic stimulation on α 1 -adrenoceptors. This is achieved by measuring the force generated by bladder and urethra smooth muscle to demonstrate that acetylcholine contracts the smooth muscle of the bladder, whereas adrenergic agonists contract the urethral smooth muscle. An inhibition of these effects is also demonstrated by application of the muscarinic receptor antagonist atropine and the α 1 -adrenergic receptor blocker phentolamine. A list of suggested techniques and exam questions to evaluate student understanding on this topic is also provided.

This laboratory practical requires first-year students to anticipate the effects of drugs active at cholinergic and adrenergic receptors on gut motility in order to design experiments during an authentic inquiry exercise. Rather than specifying a strict sequence of drug additions that aim to provide ideal demonstrations of pharmacological and physiological antagonism, I have instead designed switches into the drugs provided and set students, working in small teams, the task of identifying the switched drugs, an inquiry activity. To extend the teamwork aspect, laboratory reports were submitted by the student teams rather than individual students. Staff observed that discussions within the teams were stimulated by the inquiry-led nature of the practical. The quality of the laboratory reports submitted by teams were substantially improved over the individual reports submitted in previous years. (Students previously worked in teams, but simply followed a list of prescribed experiments and wrote individual reports.) Although, in conversation, teams of students had an improved understanding of the regulation of gut motility by the parasympathetic and sympathetic divisions of the autonomic nervous system and could readily distinguish between pharmacological and functional antagonism, no attempt was made to evaluate learning because the revision was triggered by the observed effect of a technical error and was not otherwise planned. It is likely that laboratory practicals, in general, would benefit from inclusion of inquiry.

U.S. studies show that the global point-of-care (POC) diagnostics market will reach $40.5 bn by 2022, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10%. This is one of the reasons why HES-SO Valais-Wallis and CSEM, acting on behalf of the NTN Swiss Biotech thematic platform in vitro Diagnostics (TP IVD), invited interested parties on October 26, 2017 to the SWISS SYMPOSIUM in Point-of-Care Diagnostics (see CHIMIA No. 12/2017). We now bring the second report on the future prospects of POC diagnostics.

This chapter deals with chemical and hematologic investigations which are often considered in the diagnostic workup of subacute to chronic cerebellar ataxias. Relevant investigations in blood (serum, plasma), urine, and cerebrospinal fluid are discussed. Particular attention is paid to early diagnosis of treatable metabolic ataxias (such as abetalipoproteinemia, coenzyme Q10 deficiency, cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis, glucose transporter type 1 deficiency, Refsum disease, and vitamin E deficiency), but autoimmune ataxias, other vitamin deficiencies, and endocrine disorders should also be kept in mind. Adequate interpretation of test results has to consider age-specific reference values. One of the initial steps for implementing pharmacogenomics into routine patient care is selecting an appropriate clinical laboratory to perform the testing. With the rapid advances in genotyping technologies, many clinical laboratories are now performing pharmacogenomic testing. Selection of a reference laboratory depends on whether a particular genotype assay is already performed by an internal health care organization laboratory or only available externally. Other factors for consideration are coverage of genomic variants important for the patient population, technical support, and cost. In some instances, the decision to select a particular reference laboratory may be the responsibility of the clinician who is recommending genomic interrogation. Only limited guidance is available that describes the laboratory characteristics to consider when selecting a reference laboratory. Timely and accurate identification and determination of the antimicrobial susceptibility of uropathogens is central to the management of UTIs. Urine dipsticks are fast and amenable to point-of-care testing, but do not have adequate diagnostic accuracy or provide microbiological diagnosis. Urine culture with antimicrobial susceptibility testing takes 2-3 days and requires a clinical laboratory. The common use of empirical antibiotics has contributed to the rise of multidrug-resistant organisms, reducing treatment options and increasing costs. In addition to improved antimicrobial stewardship and the development of new antimicrobials, novel diagnostics are needed for timely microbial identification and determination of antimicrobial susceptibilities. New diagnostic platforms, including nucleic acid tests and mass spectrometry, have been approved for clinical use and have improved the speed and accuracy of pathogen identification from primary cultures. Optimization for direct urine testing would reduce the time to diagnosis, yet these technologies do not provide comprehensive information on antimicrobial susceptibility. Emerging technologies including biosensors, microfluidics, and other integrated platforms could improve UTI diagnosis via direct pathogen detection from urine samples, rapid antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and point-of-care testing. Successful development and implementation of these technologies has the potential to usher in an era of precision medicine to improve patient care and public health.

Background: There is limited data on results of central re-testing of samples from patients with invasive breast cancer categorised in their local hospital laboratories as oestrogen receptor (ER) positive and human epidermal growth factor receptor homologue 2 (HER2) negative., Methods: The Optimal Personalised Treatment of early breast cancer usIng Multiparameter Analysis preliminary study (OPTIMA prelim) was the feasibility phase of a randomised controlled trial to validate the use of multiparameter assay-directed chemotherapy decisions in the UK National Health Service (NHS). Eligibility criteria included ER positivity and HER2 negativity. Central re-testing of receptor status was mandatory., Results: Of the 431 patients tested centrally, discrepant results between central and local laboratory results were identified in only 19 (4.4%; 95% confidence interval 2.5-6.3%) patients (with 21 tumours). On central review, seven patients had cancers that were ER-negative (1.6%) and 13 (3.0%) patients with 15 tumours had HER2-positive disease, including one tumour discrepant for both biomarkers., Conclusions: Central re-testing of receptor status of invasive breast cancers in the UK NHS setting shows a high level of reproducibility in categorising tumours as ER-positive and HER2-negative, and raises questions regarding the cost effectiveness and clinical value of central re-testing in this sub-group of breast cancers in this setting.

A newly assay, up-converting phosphor technology-based lateral flow (UPT-LF) assay, was developed for rapid and quantitative detection of N-terminal fragment of B-type natriuretic peptide precursor (NT-proBNP), one of the most important serum molecular maker of heat failure, in plasma samples as a point of care testing (POCT) method for diagnosis of acute heart failure. Human plasma from 197 patients with acute heart failure and 200 healthy controls was assessed using the UPT-LF assay, in a comparison with a Roche Elecsys assay. The limit of detection of the UPT-LF assay, with a coefficient of variation (CV) of less than 15%, was 116 ng/L, which is lower than the clinical diagnosis cutoff (150 ng/mL). The linear range was 50-35,000 ng/L. The CVs were less than 10% for both UPT-LF and Roche Elecsys assays for plasma samples under different storages, demonstrating the good stability and reproducibility. There are certain linear correlations between the results of UPT-LF and Roche Elecsys assay for EDTA-K2 and heparin-anticoagulated plasma, as well as for serum samples. For UPT-LF assay, there is a significant correlation between the values derived from analysis of EDTA-K2 and heparin-anticoagulated plasma samples (R = 0.995). No statistically significant difference was found between serum and plasma samples for UPT-LF assay. Our results demonstrate that NT-proBNP levels in healthy adults are elevated with age and had a relationship with sex, and with the age increase the NT-proBNP levels of females are significantly higher than those of males (p<0.01). The UPT-LF assay has a high reproducibility, stability, sensitivity, specificity, and is consistent with Roche Elecsys assay, and therefore it could be used as a POCT method for the quantitative detection of NT-proBNP in blood for clinical diagnosis and research of acute heart failure., Competing Interests: In this study, two of the authors affiliated to Beijing Hotgen Co. SiO 2 Medical Products, Inc. (SiO) has developed a proprietary technology that greatly enhances protein recoveries and reduces extractables from commercial microplates used for bioanalytical assays and storage of biologics. SiO technology is based on plasma treatment that chemically modifies the surface of polypropylene with predominantly hydrogen-bond-acceptor uncharged polar groups. The resultant surface resists nonspecific protein adsorption over a wide range of protein concentrations, thereby eliminating the need to passivate (and hence potentially contaminate) the microplates with blocking proteins. High shelf-life stability and cleanliness of the plasma-treated microplates have been demonstrated using five different proteins for two common microplate formats. The protein recovery performance of plasma-treated microplates is found to be higher compared with commercial low-protein-binding microplates.

Cell-free DNA is "Fragmented DNA found in circulation in the Cell-free component of whole blood". Cell-free DNA derived from tumors is expressed as circulating tumor DNA. Examination of circulating tu- mor DNA for genetic alterations present in the tumor tissue is defined as liquid biopsy. Currently in the cancer field, Cell-free DNA or CTC (Circulating tumor cells) is the main target of "Liquid Biopsy". Acquir- ing Cell-free DNA or CTC presents little challenge because of the recent technological developments. However, we need to improve the efficiency of CTC retrieval, and we also need to establish how to culture the retrieved CTCs. For clinical applications, PGx (Pharmacogenomics) and PGt (Pharmacogenetics) fol- lowing NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) are attractive areas for new and future applications. The intro- duction of "Liquid Biopsy" to the area of clinical trials is already in progress. As an expert group, members of the JSLM (Japanese Society of Laboratory Medicine) need to indicate the presence of quality control or quality management in the area of "Liquid Biopsy". Besides these quality issues, we, as clinical pathologists, need to think about harmonizing our expertise with surgical pathologists, who have historically handled clas- sical biopsies of solid samples. The field of "Liquid Biopsy" has marked potential; however, we need to overcome various obstacles to realize this.

Mass spectrometry-based assays are increasingly important in clinical laboratory medicine and nowadays are already commonly used in several areas of routine diagnostics. These include therapeutic drug monitoring, toxicology, endocrinology, pediatrics, and microbiology. Accordingly, some of the most common analyses are therapeutic drug monitoring of immunosuppressants, vitamin D, steroids, newborn screening, and bacterial identification. However, MS-based quantification of peptides and proteins for routine diagnostic use is rather rare up to now despite excellent analytical specificity and good sensitivity. Here, we want to give an overview over current fit-for-purpose assays for MS-based protein quantification. The importance of appropriate sample management in regulated bioanalysis is undeniable for clinical and non-clinical study support due to the fact that if the samples are compromised at any stage prior to analysis, the study results may be affected. Health authority regulations do not contain specific guidance on sample management; therefore, as part of the Global Bioanalysis Consortium (GBC), the A5 team was established to discuss sample management requirements and to put forward recommendations. The recommendations from the team concern the entire life span of the sample and include the following: 1. Sampling procedures should be described in the protocol or within the laboratory manual. This information should include the volume of the sample to be collected, the required anticoagulant, light sensitivity, collection and storage containers, and labeling with a unique identifier. 2. The correct procedures for processing and then storing the samples after collection at the clinical/non-clinical testing site and during shipment are also very important to ensure the analyte(s) stability and should be documented. 3. Chain of custody for the samples must be maintained throughout the complete life span of each sample. This is typically maintained via paper and electronic data systems, including Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) where available. 4. Pre- and post-analysis storage location and conditions must also be clearly defined at the analytical laboratory. The storage temperature of the samples must be traceable and controlled by monitoring and warning alerts. The team suggests moving away from using temperatures and to adopt standard terminology of "room temperature," "refrigerator," "freezer," and "ultra-freezer" that have defined and industry-wide accepted temperature ranges. 5. At the end of the study, documentation of the samples' disposal is required.

Objective: The main drawback of the periodic analysis of quality control (QC) material is that test performance is not monitored in time periods between QC analyses, potentially leading to the reporting of faulty test results. The objective of this study was to develop a patient based QC procedure for the more timely detection of test errors., Method: Results from a Chem-14 panel measured on the Beckman LX20 analyzer were used to develop the model. Each test result was predicted from the other 13 members of the panel by multiple regression, which resulted in correlation coefficients between the predicted and measured result of >0.7 for 8 of the 14 tests. A logistic regression model, which utilized the measured test result, the predicted test result, the day of the week and time of day, was then developed for predicting test errors. The output of the logistic regression was tallied by a daily CUSUM approach and used to predict test errors, with a fixed specificity of 90%., Results: The mean average run length (ARL) before error detection by CUSUM-Logistic Regression (CSLR) was 20 with a mean sensitivity of 97%, which was considerably shorter than the mean ARL of 53 (sensitivity 87.5%) for a simple prediction model that only used the measured result for error detection., Conclusion: A CUSUM-Logistic Regression analysis of patient laboratory data can be an effective approach for the rapid and sensitive detection of clinical laboratory errors., (Published by Elsevier Inc.)

Our UK National Health Service regional genetics laboratory offers NIPD for autosomal dominant and de novo conditions (achondroplasia, thanataphoric dysplasia, Apert syndrome), paternal mutation exclusion for cystic fibrosis and a range of bespoke tests. NIPD avoids the risks associated with invasive testing, making prenatal diagnosis more accessible to families at high genetic risk. However, the challenge remains in offering definitive diagnosis for autosomal recessive diseases, which is complicated by the predominance of the maternal mutant allele in the cell-free DNA sample and thus requires a variety of different approaches. Validation and diagnostic implementation for NIPD of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is further complicated by presence of a pseudogene that requires a different approach. We have used an assay targeting approximately 6700 heterozygous SNPs around the CAH gene (CYP21A2) to construct the high-risk parental haplotypes and tested this approach in five cases, showing that inheritance of the parental alleles can be correctly identified using NIPD. We are evaluating various measures of the fetal fraction to help determine inheritance of parental mutations. We are currently exploring the utility of an NIPD multi-disorder panel for autosomal recessive disease, to make testing more widely applicable to families with a variety of serious genetic conditions.

Objectives: There is consolidated evidence that the burden of inappropriate laboratory test requests is very high, up to 70%. We describe here the function of a computerized alert system linked to the order entry, designed to limit the number of potentially inappropriate laboratory test requests., Design and Methods: A computerized alert system based on re-testing intervals and entailing the generation of pop-up alerts when preset criteria of appropriateness for 15 laboratory tests were violated was implemented in two clinical wards of the University Hospital of Parma. The effectiveness of the system for limiting potentially inappropriate tests was monitored for 6months., Results: Overall, 765/3539 (22%) test requests violated the preset criteria of appropriateness and generated the appearance of electronic alert. After alert appearance, 591 requests were annulled (17% of total tests requested and 77% of tests alerted, respectively). The total number of test requests violating the preset criteria of inappropriateness constantly decreased over time (26% in the first three months of implementation versus 17% in the following period; p<0.001). The total financial saving of test withdrawn was 3387 Euros (12.8% of the total test cost) throughout the study period., Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that a computerized alert system may be effective to limit the inappropriateness of laboratory test requests, generating significant economic saving and educating physicians to a more efficient use of laboratory resources., (Copyright © 2015 The Canadian Society of Clinical Chemists. To maintain a trusting relationship between clinical and hospital laboratory staff, highly reliable reporting based on precise quality control of the test results is required. Testing work is divided into 3 steps: pre-testing, testing, and post-testing. Quality control (QC) of laboratory testing has been performed to improve the precision and accuracy of measurements after sample collection, mainly in the testing step. However, various factors influencing the measurement results are present in the process from requests for testing to the reporting of the test results, and it is necessary to make efforts to minimize these factors. The characteristics of POCT devices and reagents are their simple operation method, compact size, and use at sites other than laboratories, and most users are physicians and nurses. Sample measurement rooms have opened at sites other than medical institutions, and testing using POCT-compatible devices and reagents has been rapidly spreading. It is very important to clarify factors leading to false high and low values in the pre-testing step. The results of investigating reasons for predicted events were presented, and the necessity of quality management in the pre-testing step was clarified. If the pre-testing step is not properly performed, accuracy cannot be assured even though quality management of the testing and post-testing steps is optimal.

In order to ensure the accuracy of POCT devices and reagents, it is necessary to appropriately manage and store them. There are various points to be considered for these items, such as management before and environments when using them; it is more complex than when using conventional analysis apparatuses in clinical laboratories. In addition, staff using such devices should be provided with opportunities to obtain sufficient knowledge and skills. These approaches are indispensable to ensure POCT accuracy and provide reliable data, and, in this respect, support for staff with expertise in clinical examination is crucial.
