Bu çalışmanın amacı, ortaokul matematik uygulamaları dersine ait öğretim materyalinde yer alan problemlerin, matematiksel modelleme problemlerine uygun olup olmadığının araştırılmasıdır. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden doküman analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Matematik uygulamaları öğretim materyali olarak değerlendirilen beşinci, altıncı, yedinci ve sekizinci sınıf ders kitaplarında yer alan toplam 149 adet problem incelenmiştir. Verilerin analizinde tümdengelim ve tümevarım yöntemleri birlikte kullanılarak bu öğretim materyallerinde yer alan problemlerin yarısından fazlasının gerçekçi durum içeren problemler olduğu görülmüştür. Fakat bu problemlerin oldukça az bir kısmı modelleme problemlerinde bulunması gereken özgünlük kriterini sağlamaktadır. Yine benzer şekilde sadece birkaç adet problem açıklık kriterlerini taşımaktadır. Modelleme alt yeterlikleri incelendiğinde problemlerin birçoğunun matematiksel çözüm gerektiren problemler olduğu dikkat çekicidir. Problemlerin büyük çoğunluğu basitleştirme, yorumlama ve doğrulama aşamalarını içermemektedir. Yenilenen matematik uygulamaları öğretim programı ile matematiksel modellemeye ilginin arttığı fakat bunun öğretim materyallerine yansımadığı görülmüştür. Dikkate alınan kriterler doğrultusunda öğretim materyallerinin yenilenmesi önerilmektedir.

- Abstract
In the traditional assembly line balancing (ALB) problem, the processing times of tasks are assumed to be fixed and worker independent. However, these times vary among workers due to factors such as experience and skill. The type of problem in which workers are divided into hierarchical levels and the processing times and costs differ across the levels is known as the assembly line balancing with hierarchical worker assignment (ALBHWA) problem. In this study, for the first time in the literature, the minimisation of cycle time and total worker cost for the ALBHWA problem with a given number of workstations is considered. A mathematical modelling approach is developed to solve the problem and the performance of the model is evaluated through adaptation of the test problems from the literature. The results indicate that the proposed model is able to optimally solve the small-sized problems in reasonable time and achieve feasible solutions for the larger-sized instances. - Abstract
This study aims to predict the yield and vegetative growth of 'Golden Reinders' apple trees grafted on M.9 rootstock over the economic lifespan of an orchard (15 years). Mathematical models with high determination coefficients were applied to data collected during the first 7 years following orchard establishment in the "Göller Yöresi" region. Fifteen trees were selected after orchard establishment, and their yield and trunk diameter values were recorded over a 7-year period. Regression models for yield and vegetative growth were developed using data processed with the Matlab program. Results were comparatively evaluated, revealing the power regression model as prominent in determining the year-tree trunk diameter relationship, while the Fourier regression model took precedence in establishing the tree trunk diameter-yield relationship. The study concludes that understanding how yield and vegetative growth evolve throughout the economic lifespan of apple orchards can be effectively achieved through such modeling approaches. CHEBYSHEV polynomials , *COVID-19 pandemic , *ROBUST statistics , *ALGEBRAIC equations , *COLLOCATION methods - Abstract
In this study, we deal with solving numerically initial value problem of a mathematical model of COVID-19 pandemic in Turkey. This model is a SIR model consisting of a nonlinear system of differential equations. In order to solve these equations, a collocation approach based on the Chebyshev polynomials is used. Chebyshev polynomials are orthonormal polynomials and the orthonormality reduces the computation cost of the method as an advantage. Another advantage is that the present method does not require any discretization of the domain. So the method is easy to implement. The main idea of the method is to convert the model to a system of nonlinear algebraic equations. For this we write the approximate solution of the system and its first derivative as the truncated series of Chebyshev polynomials with unknown coefficients in matrix forms and then utilizing the collocation points, the SIR model is converted to a system of the nonlinear equations. The obtained system is solved for the unknown coefficients of the assumed Chebyshev polynomial solution by MATLAB, and so the approximate solution is obtained. In order to check the robustness of the method, residual error of the solution is reviewed. The results show that the method is efficient and accurate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper aimed to explore mathematical connections that pre-service elementary mathematics teachers identified in model-eliciting activities that they designed. The study used a qualitative, in-depth exploratory case study approach conducted with a total of 42 undergraduate students selected using a purposive sampling method. Data were collected from mathematical modeling problems prepared by pre-service mathematics teachers and from written assignments in which pre-service teachers evaluated their problems in terms of mathematical connections. Data analysis utilized open coding to identify and label common patterns thematically. Results showed that most of the problems designed were consistent with the principles of the model-eliciting activities. A cross-case analysis of model-eliciting activities revealed that four types of mathematical connections were identified: (i) connections to real-world situations, (ii) connections between mathematical concepts, (iii) connections between different modes of representation, and (iv) connections to other disciplines. The mathematical connections identified in the modeling activities did not seem to be mutually exclusive, but rather supportive and sometimes overlapping. Pre-service mathematics teachers’ identification of mathematical connections in modeling problems reflects both their awareness of mathematical connections and their perception that the skills required for the mathematical modeling process are directly related to mathematical connection skills. Therefore, it is important that pre-service mathematics teachers have a comprehensive understanding of mathematical connections and believe that this is an essential element of the modeling process so that the various dimensions of mathematical connections, along with relevant mathematical, pedagogical, and curricular knowledge, can be effectively integrated into model-eliciting activities.

ACTIVATION energy , *PRODUCT quality , *MUSHROOMS , *HUMIDITY , *MOISTURE - Abstract
Mushroom is a perishable product from harvest due to the high humidity of 90%. When planning to occur, it is important to remove excess moisture from the microbiological evaluation of physical and enzymatic degradation. The drying process takes as long as a storable moisture treatment (10-13%) without losing the excess moisture in the product to determine the quality (physico-chemical, phytochemical, etc.). In this study; A temperature at the modeling temperature is 60±1.5 °C and 70±2.5 °C. Drying samples will continue from 92.85% to 10% humidity of the sample. Research that has drying rate, drying rate, rehydration capacity, rehydration rate, color, effect and effective di-activation energy values is used. According to the demonstration, the shortest drying time is estimated at 40 to °C, while the shortest drying time refers to long runs between 210 minutes and 50 °C. The color nominal collection of fresh mushroom is best preserved when stored at 50 ºC. The highest rehydration capacity is seen in the season passing from -70 °C in 50 °C rehydrated water. The hardness model is suitable for use at 70 °C (P<0.05). Rehydration rate and capacity properties were found to be better at 60 °C (P<0.05). Effective heights of dried mushrooms are 1.42-6.39x10-6 m² s-1 variety. The activation energy value of the dried mushroom sample was calculated as 69.47 kJ mol-1. Among the thin layer drying models, the drying method was the best, I could choose the Pony-Little model (R²: 0.9991). The estimation for this case is that the cultivar is optimally targeted to mature at 70 °C. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

QUANTITATIVE research , *STUDENT teachers , *TEACHER attitudes , *MATHEMATICS teachers , *FACTOR structure - Abstract
In this research, it is aimed to adapt the Mathematical Modeling Attitude Scale developed by Asempapa (2019) into Turkish. The survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the research, and the sample of the research consists of 88 teachers and 157 teacher candidates determined by appropriate sampling method. Mathematical Modeling Attitude Scale, Mathematical Modeling Self-Efficacy Scale and Innovative Literacy Scale were used as data collection tools in the research. Explanatory and confirmatory factor analyzes were performed to determine the factor structure of MMAS. It has been concluded that the Turkish version of the MMAS with four factors and 23 items is a valid and reliable measurement tool to measure the attitudes of teachers attending mathematics courses towards mathematical modelling. This study can be done using a larger data set and different variables. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MATHEMATICAL models , *CAREER development , *MATHEMATICS teachers , *MIDDLE school teachers , *TEACHER competencies - Abstract
In this study, the mathematical modeling process of in-service middle school mathematics teachers who participated in a mathematical modeling workshop within the scope of a professional development program were examined. This study is a multicase study with the participation of six teachers(two women; four men) and investigates how teachers handled the theoretical knowledge gained during the mathematical modeling workshop in the problem designing process. The data consists of problems designed by teachers and individual interviews. The findings show that teachers were generally successful in transferring their theoretical knowledge to the problem designing process, but had some difficulties. Besides, it can be said that they overcame these difficulties in the process and obtained the problem designing competence that is suitable for the mathematical modeling criteria. The results show that implementation has an important role in the development of a modeling point of view just like theory and that the balance of theory and application should be established in modeling education.

- Abstract
Due to the growth and increasing competition in e)commerce in recent years, the last mile logistics activities are getting more and more complex and the costs related to these activities are increasing. For this reason, cargo companies adopt alternative delivery methods to reduce delivery costs and increase service quality. One of these alternatives is parcel locker delivery. Parcel lockers provide significant savings in delivery costs while providing flexibility in terms of delivery time. However, since parcel lockers are located into the central areas of the cities, they incur high rental costs. In this context, design of a parcel locker network emerges as an important facility location problem. In this study, a mathematical model has been developed for the cargo vending machine location problem. By using the proposed model, the locations of five parcel lockers in Buca district of İzmir province were determined. In addition, the proposed model is analyzed for different parameter values. According to the results obtained from the analyzes, the number of parcel lockers has a significant effect on the demand fill rate. In addition, the results of the analysis showed that with the changes in parcel locker capacity and discount system, the filled demand can be increased significantly without investing in a new parcel locker [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

FLEXIBLE manufacturing systems , *TRANSPORT workers , *PLANT layout , *MATHEMATICAL models , *INTEGERS - Abstract
Double row facility layout problem (DRFLP) is a frequently used layout type in flexible manufacturing systems. In this layout, machines or departments are placed along both sides of a corridor, which is a path for the use of transportation vehicles and workers. The problem involves determining which side of the corridor the machines will be on and their exact locations on the row in order to minimize transportation costs within the facility. This study focuses on a multi-product DRFLP with different processing routes. New mixed integer mathematical models were developed for the scenarios with and without identical machines. The effectiveness of the models was evaluated on the randomly generated test problems. Optimal solutions were obtained in both models for small-sized problems. For large-sized problems, the solution values reached within pre-determined time limit (21600 s) were reported. While the gap (%) values at the end of the solution time determined in the model without identical machines ranged between 8.05 and 32.26, these values were between 5.26 and 25.73 for the model with identical machines. In this study, the aim was to microwave dry Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh. leaves, while evaluating the role of microwave power regarding drying behavior, drying rate, drying time, drying kinetics, moisture diffusivity, energy consumption and essential oil yield. The leaves were dried by microwave at four different power levels (180, 360, 600 and 720 W). The results found that increasing the increment power levels decreased the time for drying and increased the drying rate. To fit the experimental data, nine widely used thin layer drying kinetics models were used. The analysis of the drying curves indicated that the Page model was the most appropriate. There was a significant difference in moisture diffusivity between 2.36×10-11 and 11.45×10-11m2/s. Increasing microwave power was led to an increase in moisture diffusivity. In accordance with the Arrhenius equation, a value of 7.4225 W/g was determined for the activation energy. In terms of specific energy consumption, the results ranged from 8.56 to 9.93 kWh/kg. When leaves were dried with a microwave power of 180 W, the maximum yield of essential oil was obtained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LAMINAR flow , *DRUG delivery systems , *MASS transfer , *FLUID flow , *COMPUTATIONAL fluid dynamics , *MICROFLUIDIC devices , *CELL culture - Abstract
Microfluidic-based biochemical analyzes and recent developments in cell/tissue engineering are based on controlling spatio-temporally mass transfer in microfluidic systems. These systems are useful tools for controlling the cellular microenvironment and simulating tissue-like structures, as well as performing high-throughput analysis. Therefore, modeling of transport processes of biomolecules in microsystems is a valuable and useful analytical tool that facilitates the design of microfluidic platforms and quantitative biological analysis. Within the scope of the study, an analytical model was created that shows the mass transfer profile by emphasizing the diffusion and convection processes of biomolecules in a single-channel microfluidic platform for drug transport applications. In order to mimic the flow dynamics of cellular physiological environments, the microsystem was established with a peristaltic pump that can provide pulsatile laminar fluid flow. Numerical simulation of the microsystem was performed using COMSOL software to numerically examine the effects of biomechanical forces (flow rate, concentration, pressure distribution and shear stress) acting on cells under dynamic flow conditions. In the microfluidic system, it has been shown that the concentration profile is maintained along the length of the channel while the cells are exposed to the minimum shear stress. By increasing the flow rate, the concentration distribution along the microchannel can be changed, increasing the shear stress on the cells. It is thought that the simulated microfluidic analytical model can be used as a basis for system design and parameter selection in the development of microfluidic platforms to be used for cell culture, biological analyzes and drug delivery systems. CAPITAL stock , *MATHEMATICAL functions , *LABOR supply , *ECONOMETRIC models ,DEVELOPING countries ,DEVELOPED countries - Abstract
Increasing economic growth is a common goal of all countries. Scientists use many mathematical functions and statistical methods to determine the sources of economic growth. In this study, the modeling of economic growth with the help of mathematical functions has been handled in the order of historical development, and the technology parameter in the obtained model has been expanded to include R&D studies and human capital. This functional pattern was turned into an econometric model and estimated by panel data analysis method using the data of the period 1996-2020 of 40 developed and 21 developing countries. According to the findings; a 1% increase in the R&D expenditures per capita increased 0.048-0.067% increased gross domestic per capita in developing countries and 0.197% in developed countries. The 1% increase in the number of researchers working in the field of R&D increased the national income by 0.31-0.49% in developing countries and by 0.158% in developed countries. When the education expenditure per capita was increased by 1%, the per capita income increased by 0.223-0.276% in developing countries and 0.225% in developed countries. When health expenditures per capita increased by 1%, national income increased by 0.242%-0.267% in developing countries, while it increased by 0.257% in developed countries. Lastly, when the fixed capital stock per labor force increased by 1%, the per capita income increased by 0.302% in developed countries and by 0.194% in developed countries. All of these show that R&D studies and investments in education and health are important means of increasing the economic growth of countries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
