Providing Mental Health and Psychosocial Support interventions (MHPSS) for forcibly displaced Ukrainians in Central and Eastern Europe poses numerous challenges due to various socio-cultural and infrastructural factors. This qualitative study explored implementation barriers reported by service providers of in-person and digital MHPSS for Ukrainian refugees displaced to Poland, Romania and Slovakia due to the war. In addition, the study aimed to generate recommendations to overcome these barriers. Semi-structured Free List and Key Informant interviews were conducted using the Design, Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation protocol with 18 and 13 service providers, respectively. For in-person interventions, barriers included stigma, language, shortage of MHPSS providers, lack of financial aid and general lack of trust among refugees. For digital MHPSS, barriers included generational obstacles, lack of therapeutic relationships, trust issues, and lack of awareness. Recommendations included advancing public health strategies, organizational interventions, building technical literacy and support, enhancing the credibility of digital interventions and incorporating MHPSS into usual practice. By implementing the recommendations proposed in this study, policymakers, organizations and service providers can work towards enhancing the delivery of MHPSS and addressing the mental health needs of Ukrainian refugees in host countries, such as Poland, Romania and Slovakia.

Patients with recurrent/metastatic (R/M) platinum-refractory squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN) have fewer treatment options and harbor an especially poor prognosis. Maintaining treatment with anti-PD1 agents beyond response evaluation criteria in solid tumors-defined disease progression (TBP) has been shown to be efficacious in several solid tumors, including head and neck cancer. We present the case of a platinum-refractory locally recurrent, PD-L1-negative hypopharyngeal carcinoma, that received second-line nivolumab which was then maintained beyond progression under the following criteria: no Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status deterioration, no rapidly progressive disease, no severe toxicity, and evidence of overall treatment benefit. The patient achieved a partial response 8 months after starting second-line nivolumab, with progressive disease at 26 months, then followed by the first TBP with nivolumab lasting for 15 months due to a new tumor progression. A second TBP with nivolumab lasting for 7 months, was followed by a third TBP with nivolumab for 12 months and achieving a major tumor response. Treatment is still ongoing 60 months after starting nivolumab, with excellent tolerance to therapy. Maintaining anti-PD1 agents beyond progression is an efficacious treatment option for patients with R/M SCCHN, that may achieve very durable disease control and even late major responses., (Copyright © 2024 Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc. Background: The prediction of Alzheimer's disease (AD) progression from its early stages is a research priority. In this context, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in AD has experienced a notable surge in recent years. However, existing investigations predominantly concentrate on distinguishing clinical phenotypes through cross-sectional approaches. This study aims to investigate the potential of modeling additional dimensions of the disease, such as variations in brain metabolism assessed via [ 18 F]-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET), and utilize this information to identify patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) who will progress to dementia (pMCI)., Methods: We analyzed data from 1,617 participants from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) who had undergone at least one FDG-PET scan. We identified the brain regions with the most significant hypometabolism in AD and used Deep Learning (DL) models to predict future changes in brain metabolism. The best-performing model was then adapted under a multi-task learning framework to identify pMCI individuals. Finally, this model underwent further analysis using eXplainable AI (XAI) techniques., Results: Our results confirm a strong association between hypometabolism, disease progression, and cognitive decline. Furthermore, we demonstrated that integrating data on changes in brain metabolism during training enhanced the models' ability to detect pMCI individuals (sensitivity=88.4%, specificity=86.9%). Pharmacokinetic positron emission tomography (PET) studies rely on the measurement of the arterial input function (AIF), which represents the time-activity curve of the radiotracer concentration in the blood plasma. Traditionally, obtaining the AIF requires invasive procedures, such as arterial catheterization, which can be challenging, time-consuming, and associated with potential risks. Therefore, the development of non-invasive techniques for AIF measurement is highly desirable. This study presents a detector for the non-invasive measurement of the AIF in PET studies. The detector is based on the combination of scintillation fibers and silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) which leads to a very compact and rugged device. The feasibility of the detector was assessed through Monte Carlo simulations conducted on mouse tail and human wrist anatomies studying relevant parameters such as energy spectrum, detector efficiency and minimum detectable activity (MDA). The simulations involved the use of 18 F and 68 Ga isotopes, which exhibit significantly different positron ranges. In addition, several prototypes were built in order to study the different components of the detector including the scintillation fiber, the coating of the fiber, the SiPMs, and the operating configuration. Finally, the simulations were compared with experimental measurements conducted using a tube filled with both 18 F and 68 Ga to validate the obtained results. The MDA achieved for both anatomies (approximately 1000 kBq/mL for mice and 1 kBq/mL for humans) falls below the peak radiotracer concentrations typically found in PET studies, affirming the feasibility of conducting non-invasive AIF measurements with the fiber detector. The sensitivity for measurements with a tube filled with 18 F ( 68 Ga) was 1.2 (2.07) cps/(kBq/mL), while for simulations, it was 2.81 (6.23) cps/(kBq/mL). Introduction: The Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination III (ACE-III) is a brief test useful for neuropsychological assessment. Several studies have validated the test for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). In this study, we aimed to examine the metabolic correlates associated with the performance of ACE-III in AD and behavioral variant FTD., Methods: We enrolled 300 participants in a cross-sectional study, including 180 patients with AD, 60 with behavioral FTD (bvFTD), and 60 controls. An 18 F-Fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography study was performed in all cases. Correlation between the ACE-III and its domains (attention, memory, fluency, language, and visuospatial) with the brain metabolism was estimated., Results: The ACE-III showed distinct neural correlates in bvFTD and AD, effectively capturing the most relevant regions involved in these disorders. Neural correlates differed for each domain, especially in the case of bvFTD. Lower ACE-III scores were associated with more advanced stages in both disorders. The ACE-III exhibited high discrimination between bvFTD vs. HC, and between AD vs. HC. Additionally, it was sensitive to detect hypometabolism in brain regions associated with bvFTD and AD., Conclusion: Our study contributes to the knowledge of the brain regions associated with ACE-III, thereby facilitating its interpretation, and highlighting its suitability for screening and monitoring. Purpose: To evaluate the metabolic uptake of different tomographic signs observed in patients with incidental structural findings suggestive of COVID-19 pneumonia through 18 F-FDG PET/CT., Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 596 PET/CT studies performed from February 21, 2020 to April 17, 2020. After excluding 37 scans (non- 18 F-FDG PET tracers and brain studies), we analyzed the metabolic activity of several structural changes integrated in the CO-RADS score using the SUVmax of multimodal studies with 18 F-FDG., Results: Forty-three patients with 18 F-FDG PET/CT findings suggestive of COVID-19 pneumonia were included (mean age: 68±12.3 years, 22 male). SUVmax values were higher in patients with CO-RADS categories 5-6 than in those with lower CO-RADS categories (6.1±3.0 vs. 3.6±2.1, p=0.004). In patients with CO-RADS 5-6, ground-glass opacities, bilaterality and consolidations exhibited higher SUVmax values (p-values of 0.01, 0.02 and 0.01, respectively). Patchy distribution and crazy paving pattern were also associated with higher SUVmax (p-values of 0.002 and 0.01). After multivariate analysis, SUVmax was significantly associated with a positive structural diagnosis of COVID-19 pneumonia (odds ratio=0.63, 95% confidence interval=0.41-0.90; p=0.02). The ROC curve of the regression model intended to confirm or rule out the structural diagnosis of COVID-19 pneumonia showed an AUC of 0.77 (standard error=0.072, p=0.003)., Conclusions: In those patients referred for standard oncologic and non-oncologic indications (43/559; 7.7%) during pandemic, imaging with 18 F-FDG PET/CT is a useful tool during incidental detection of COVID-19 pneumonia. Up to 10-15% of patients with first-line recurrent/metastatic (R/M) head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) present with platinum-refractory disease. The anti-PD1 nivolumab is the first therapeutic option in this setting achieving a 19.2% objective response rate and a 7.7-month median overall survival (OS). Given the poor prognosis of platinum-refractory patients, those showing slow progressive disease with no functional status deterioration should maintain nivolumab beyond progression in the absence of severe or unmanageable toxicities. Another strategy is to use local therapies such as radiotherapy and surgical tumor resection in cases of oligometastatic or oligoprogressive disease. Both strategies may significantly improve disease control and OS in these populations. We present the case of a patient with platinum-refractory disease treated with first-line nivolumab beyond progression who achieved a durable complete response after palliative radiation and surgical resection of five tumor lesions. Novel chemo-immunotherapy (chemo-IO) combinations should be evaluated, which may be suitable for cisplatin-unfit or fluoropyrimide-ineligible patients with recurrent or metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of head and neck (R/M SCCHN) to guarantee higher and deeper responses than IO alone. The aim of the present study was to review our experience using pembrolizumab-carboplatin-paclitaxel (pembro + CP) in patients with R/M SCCHN. This was a retrospective study of patients with R/M SCCHN who received pembro + CP in any-line via a compassionate-use program. The present study evaluated safety using Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events v4.0, compliance, overall response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR) using Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors 1.1, duration of treatment, progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). Between March 2020 and August 2021, 10 patients were identified (median age, 64 years; female, 60%; Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group 2, 80%). A total of 8 patients received pembro + 3-weekly carboplatin-paclitaxel (3wkCP). A total of 2 patients received pembro + weekly carboplatin-paclitaxel (wkCP). Patients received a median of 3 lines (range, 0-6) of systemic therapy prior to pembro + CP and 80% received IO in previous lines. Grade 1-2 adverse events (AEs) occurred in 100% of patients. Grade 3-5 AEs occurred in 30% of patients [all grade 3 (anemia, neutropenia, thrombopenia, hypertension)]. The mean numbers of pembro + wkCP and pembro + 3wkCP cycles were 2.5 and 6. The ORR (n=7) was 14% (1/7) with one complete response. The DCR was 43% (3/7). The median PFS (n=7) and OS (n=10) times since pembro + CP were 5 months (95% CI, 1-9) and 6 months (95% CI, 0.5-14), respectively. In this small retrospective series of heavily pretreated patients, pembro + CP was well tolerated, and compliance was high. Objective: Cognitive processes underlying verbal and design fluency, and their neural correlates in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and behavioural variant Frontotemporal Dementia (bvFTD) remain unclear. We hypothesised that verbal and design fluency may be associated with distinct neuropsychological processes in AD and FTD, showing different patterns of impairment and neural basis., Methods: We enrolled 142 participants including patients with AD (n = 80, mean age = 74.71), bvFTD (n = 34, mean age = 68.18), and healthy controls (HCs) (n = 28, mean age = 71.14), that underwent cognitive assessment and 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography imaging., Results: Semantic and phonemic fluency showed the largest effect sizes between groups, showing lower scores in bvFTD than AD and HCs, and lower scores in AD than HC. Both AD and bvFTD showed a lower number of unique designs in design fluency in comparison to HC. Semantic fluency was correlated with left frontotemporal lobe in AD, and with left frontal, caudate, and thalamus in bvFTD. Percentage of unique designs in design fluency was associated with the metabolism of the bilateral fronto-temporo-parietal cortex in AD, and the bilateral frontal cortex with right predominance in bvFTD. Repetitions in AD were correlated with bilateral frontal, temporal, and parietal lobes, and with left prefrontal cortex in bvFTD., Conclusions: Our findings demonstrate differential underlying cognitive processes in verbal and design fluency in AD and bvFTD. While memory and executive functioning associated with fronto-temporo-parietal regions were key in AD, attention and executive functions correlated with the frontal cortex and played a more significant role in bvFTD during fluency tasks.

Artificial Intelligence aids early diagnosis and development of new treatments, which is key to slow down the progress of the diseases, which to date have no cure. The patients' evaluation is carried out through diagnostic techniques such as clinical assessments neuroimaging techniques, which provide high-dimensionality data. In this work, a computational tool is presented that deals with the data provided by the clinical diagnostic techniques. This is a Python-based framework implemented with a modular design and fully extendable. It integrates (i) data processing and management of missing values and outliers; (ii) implementation of an evolutionary feature engineering approach, developed as a Python package, called PyWinEA using Mono-objective and Multi-objetive Genetic Algorithms (NSGAII); (iii) a module for designing predictive models based on a wide range of machine learning algorithms; (iv) a multiclass decision stage based on evolutionary grammars and Bayesian networks. Developed under the eXplainable Artificial Intelligence and open science perspective, this framework provides promising advances and opens the door to the understanding of neurodegenerative diseases from a data-centric point of view. Background: Recent models of visuospatial functioning suggest the existence of three main circuits emerging from the dorsal ("where") route: parieto-prefrontal pathway, parieto-premotor, and parieto-medial temporal. Neural underpinnings of visuospatial task performance and the sparing of visuospatial functioning in bvFTD are unclear. We hypothesized different neural and cognitive mechanisms in visuospatial tasks performance in bvFTD and AD., Methods: Two hundred and sixteen participants were enrolled for this study: 72 patients with bvFTD dementia and 144 patients with AD. Visual Object and Space Perception Battery Position Discrimination and Number Location (VOSP-PD and VOSP-NL) and Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure (ROCF) were administered to examine visuospatial functioning, together with a comprehensive neuropsychological battery. FDG-PET was acquired to evaluate brain metabolism. Voxel-based brain mapping analyses were conducted to evaluate the brain regions associated with visuospatial function in bvFTD and AD., Results: Patients with AD performed worst in visuospatial tasks in mild dementia, but not at prodromal stage. Attention and executive functioning tests showed higher correlations in bvFTD than AD with ROCF, but not VOSP subtests. Visuospatial performance in patients with bvFTD was associated with bilateral frontal regions, including the superior and medial frontal gyri, supplementary motor area, insula and middle cingulate gyrus., Conclusion: These findings support the role of prefrontal and premotor regions in visuospatial processing through the connection with the posterior parietal cortex and other posterior cortical regions. Objectives: Induction chemotherapy (ICT) followed by definitive treatment is an accepted non-surgical approach for locoregionally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (LA-HNSCC). However, ICT remains a challenge for cisplatin-unfit patients. We evaluated paclitaxel and cetuximab (P-C) as ICT in a cohort of LA-HNSCC patients unfit for cisplatin., Materials and Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of patients with newly diagnosed LA-HNSCC considered unfit for cisplatin-based chemotherapy (age >70 and/or ECOG≥2 and/or comorbidities) treated with weekly P-C followed by definitive radiotherapy and cetuximab (RT-C) between 2010 and 2017. Toxicity and objective response rate (ORR) to ICT and RT-C were collected. Median overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Cox regression analysis was performed to determine baseline predictors of OS and PFS., Results: A total of 57 patients were included. Grade 3-4 toxicity rate to ICT was 54.4%, and there was a death deemed treatment-related (G5). P-C achieved an ORR of 66.7%, including 12.3% of complete responses (CR). After P-C, 45 patients (78.9%) continued with concomitant RT-C. Twenty-six patients (45.6%) achieved a CR after definitive treatment. With a median follow-up of 21.7 months (range 1.2-94.6), median OS and PFS were 22.9 months and 10.7 months, respectively. The estimated 2-year OS and PFS rates were 48.9% and 33.7%, respectively. Disease stage had a negative impact on OS (stage IVb vs. III-IVa: HR = 2.55 [1.08-6.04], p = 0.03), with a trend towards worse PFS (HR = 1.92 [0.91-4.05], p = 0.09). Primary tumor in the larynx was associated with improved PFS but not OS (HR = 0.45 [0.22-0.92], p = 0.03, and HR = 0.69 [0.32-1.54], p = 0.37, respectively)., Conclusion: P-C was a well-tolerated and active ICT regimen in this cohort of LA-HNSCC patients unfit for cisplatin-based chemotherapy. Genetic algorithms have a proven capability to explore a large space of solutions, and deal with very large numbers of input features. We hypothesized that the application of these algorithms to 18 F-Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography (FDG-PET) may help in diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) by selecting the most meaningful features and automating diagnosis. We aimed to develop algorithms for the three main issues in the diagnosis: discrimination between patients with AD or FTD and healthy controls (HC), differential diagnosis between behavioral FTD (bvFTD) and AD, and differential diagnosis between primary progressive aphasia (PPA) variants. Genetic algorithms, customized with K-Nearest Neighbor and BayesNet Naives as the fitness function, were developed and compared with Principal Component Analysis (PCA). K-fold cross validation within the same sample and external validation with ADNI-3 samples were performed. External validation was performed for the algorithms distinguishing AD and HC. Our study supports the use of FDG-PET imaging, which allowed a very high accuracy rate for the diagnosis of AD, FTD, and related disorders. Genetic algorithms identified the most meaningful features with the minimum set of features, which may be relevant for automated assessment of brain FDG-PET images. Although the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) can present as nonspecific clinical forms, subclinical cases represent an important route of transmission and a significant source of mortality, mainly in high-risk subpopulations such as cancer patients. A deeper knowledge of the metabolic shift in cells infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 could provide new insights about its pathogenic and host response and help to diagnose pulmonary involvement. We explored the potential added diagnostic value of 18 F-FDG PET/CT scans in asymptomatic cancer patients with suspected COVID-19 pneumonia by investigating the association between metabolic and structural changes in the lung parenchyma. Methods: 18 F-FDG PET/CT studies acquired between February 19 and May 29, 2020, were reviewed to identify those cancer patients with incidental findings suggestive of COVID-19 pneumonia. PET studies were interpreted through qualitative (visual) and semiquantitative (measurement of SUV max ) analysis evaluating lung findings. Several characteristic signs of COVID-19 pneumonia on CT were described as COVID-19 Reporting and Data System (CO-RADS) categories ( 1 -6). After comparing the SUV max of pulmonary infiltrates among different CO-RADS categories, we explored the best potential cutoffs for pulmonary SUV max against CO-RADS categories as the gold standard result to eliminate the possibility that the diagnosis of COVID-19 pneumonia exists. Results: On multimodal PET/CT imaging, CT signs classified as CO-RADS category 5 or 6 were found in 16 of 41 (39%) oncologic patients. SUV max was higher in patients with categories 5 and 6 than in patients with category 4 (6.17 ± 0.82 vs. 3.78 ± 0.50, P = 0.04) or categories 2 and 3 (3.59 ± 0.41, P = 0.01). A specificity of 93.8% (95% CI, 71.7%-99.7%) and an accuracy of 92.9% were obtained when combining a CO-RADS score of 5 or 6 with an SUV max of 2.45 in pulmonary infiltrates. Conclusion: In asymptomatic cancer patients, the metabolic activity in lung infiltrates is closely associated with several combined tomographic changes characteristic of COVID-19 pneumonia. Multimodal 18 F-FDG PET/CT imaging could provide additional information during early diagnosis in selected predisposed patients during the pandemic. Background: Primary progressive aphasia (PPA) is a clinical syndrome characterized by gradual loss of language skills. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic capacity of a connected speech task for the diagnosis of PPA and its variants, to determine the main components of spontaneous speech, and to examine their neural correlates., Methods: A total of 118 participants (31 patients with nfvPPA, 11 with svPPA, 45 with lvPPA, and 31 healthy controls) were evaluated with the Cookie Theft picture description task and a comprehensive language assessment protocol. Patients also underwent 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography and magnetic resonance imaging studies. Principal component analysis and machine learning were used to evaluate the main components of connected speech and the accuracy of connected speech parameters for diagnosing PPA. Voxel-based analyses were conducted to evaluate the correlation between spontaneous speech components and brain metabolism, brain volumes, and white matter microstructure., Results: Discrimination between patients with PPA and controls was 91.67%, with 77.78% discrimination between PPA variants. Parameters related to speech rate and lexical variables were the most discriminative for classification. Three main components were identified: lexical features, fluency, and syntax. The lexical component was associated with ventrolateral frontal regions, while the fluency component was associated with the medial superior prefrontal cortex. Number of pauses was more related with the left parietotemporal region, while pauses duration with the bilateral frontal lobe. The lexical component was correlated with several tracts in the language network (left frontal aslant tract, left superior longitudinal fasciculus I, II, and III, left arcuate fasciculus, and left uncinate fasciculus), and fluency was linked to the frontal aslant tract., Conclusion: Spontaneous speech assessment is a useful, brief approach for the diagnosis of PPA and its variants. Background: LASSI-L is a novel neuropsychological test specifically designed for the early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) based on semantic interference., Objective: To examine the cognitive and neural underpinnings of the failure to recover from proactive semantic and retroactive semantic interference., Methods: One hundred and fifty-five patients consulting for memory loss were included. Patients underwent neuropsychological assessment, including the LASSI-L, and FDG-PET imaging. They were categorized as subjective memory complaints (SMC) (n=32), pre-mild cognitive impairment (MCI) due to AD (Pre-MCI) (n=39), MCI due to AD (MCI-AD) (n=71), and MCI without evidence of neurodegeneration (MCI-NN) (n=13). Voxel-based brain mapping and metabolic network connectivity analyses were conducted., Results: A significant group effect was found for all the LASSI-L scores. LASSI-L scores measuring failure to recover from proactive semantic interference and retroactive semantic interference were predicted by other neuropsychological tests with a precision of 64.1 and 44.8%. The LASSI-L scores were associated with brain metabolism in the bilateral precuneus, superior, middle and inferior temporal gyri, fusiform, angular, superior and inferior parietal lobule, superior, middle and inferior occipital gyri, lingual gyrus, and posterior cingulate. Connectivity analysis revealed a decrease of node degree and centrality in posterior cingulate in patients showing frPSI., Conclusion: Episodic memory dysfunction and the involvement of the medial temporal lobe, precuneus and posterior cingulate constitute the basis of the failure to recover from proactive semantic interference and retroactive semantic interference. These findings support the role of the LASSI-L in the detection, monitoring and outcome prediction during the early stages of AD.

Abstract: We present a case of a 75-year-old woman with clinical suspicion of stroke whose cranial CT showed ischemic changes in right precentral region, without visible vascular occlusion, and a right vagal lesion suggestive of paraganglioma. Two weeks later, 68Ga-DOTATOC PET/CT with IV iodine-based contrast administration (Biograph 6 True Point equipment; Siemens) was performed for characterization of this lesion and staging. The goal of developing a PET dedicated to the brain (CareMiBrain) has evolved from its initial approach to diagnosis and monitoring of dementias, to the more ambitious of creating a revolutionary clinical pathway for the knowledge and personalized treatment of multiple neurological diseases. The main innovative feature of CareMiBrain is the use of detectors with continuous crystals, which allow a high resolution determination of the depth of annihilation photons interaction within the thickness of the scintillation crystal. The technical validation phase of the equipment consisted of a pilot, prospective and observational study whose objective was to obtain the first images (40 patients), analyze them and make adjustments in the acquisition, reconstruction and correction parameters, comparing the image quality of the CareMiBrain equipment with that of the whole-body PET/CT. Thanks to the team meetings and the joint analysis of the images, it was possible to detect its weak points and some of its causes. The calibration, acquisition and processing processes, as well as the reconstruction, were optimized, the number of iterations was set to achieve the best signal-to-noise ratio, the random correction was optimized and a post-processing algorithm was included in the reconstruction algorithm. Background: There are still few data on the activity and safety of cetuximab-based salvage chemotherapy after immunotherapy (SCAI) in patients with squamous cell cancer of the head and neck (SCCHN)., Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective study of patients with SCCHN who received cetuximab-based SCAI after programmed cell death protein 1 or programmed cell death ligand 1(PD[L]1) inhibitors. Overall response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR) with SCAI and with last chemotherapy before immunotherapy (LCBI) by RECIST 1.1, percentage change from baseline in target lesions (PCTL), progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), treatment compliance, and toxicity were evaluated., Results: Between March 2016 and November 2019, 23 patients were identified. SCAI consisted of cetuximab-based combinations (3-weekly cisplatin-5FU-cetuximab [n = 2], weekly paclitaxel-cetuximab [n = 17], weekly cisplatin-cetuximab [n = 2], weekly carboplatin-paclitaxel-cetuximab [n = 2]). ORR was 56.5% (11 partial response, 2 complete response). DCR was 78.3%. Among 13 objective responders, median best PCTL was -53.5% (range, -30% to -100%). Median OS and PFS were 12 months and 6 months, respectively. In 10 patients receiving LCBI, ORR to LCBI was 40%, whereas ORR to SCAI achieved 60%. In LCBI-treated patients, median PFS with LCBI was 8 months and median PFS and OS with SCAI were 7 months and 12 months, respectively. Reduced dose intensity of the chemotherapy and cetuximab components occurred in 82.6% and 52.2% of the patients. Grade 1 or 2 adverse events (AEs) occurred in all patients. Grade 3 or 4 AEs developed in 65%, being grade 3 in all of them except in one patient (grade 4 neutropenia). There were no treatment-related deaths., Conclusion: Cetuximab-based salvage chemotherapy after PD(L)1 inhibitors associated with high response rates and deep tumor reductions with a manageable safety profile. Subsequent lines of therapy may explain the long survival achieved in our series. These results invite to design studies to elucidate the best therapeutic sequence in patients with SCCHN in the immunotherapy era., Implications for Practice: Cetuximab-based salvage chemotherapy (SCAI) achieved high response rates in patients with recurrent/metastatic squamous cell cancer of the head and neck (SCCHN) after progression to PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors. Objective response rate was higher than and progression-free survival was comparable to that of chemotherapy administered before immunotherapy (IO). In most patients, SCAI consisted of weekly, well-tolerated regimens. Background: Lung involvement in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) undergoing PET-CT has been previously reported. However, FDG uptake outside lung parenchyma was poorly characterized in detail. We evaluated the extra-parenchymal lung involvement in asymptomatic cancer patients with COVID-19 pneumonia through 18 F-FDG PET-CT., Methods: A total of 1079 oncologic 18 F-FDG PET-CT were performed between February 2 and May 18, 2020. Confirmed COVID-19 pneumonia was defined as characteristic ground-glass bilateral CT infiltrates and positive genetic/serologic tests. Nonmetastatic extra-parenchymal lung PET-CT findings were evaluated through qualitative (visual), quantitative (measurements on CT), and semiquantitative (maximum standardized uptake value: SUVmax on PET) interpretation. Clinical data, blood tests, and PET-CT results were compared between patients with and without COVID-19 pneumonia., Results: A total of 23 18 F-FDG PET-CT scans with pulmonary infiltrates suggestive of COVID-19 and available laboratory data were included: 14 positive (cases) and 9 negative (controls) for COVID-19 infection, representing a low prevalence of COVID-19 pneumonia (1.3%). Serum lactate dehydrogenase and D-dimers tended to be increased in COVID-19 cases. Extra-parenchymal lung findings were found in 42.9% of patients with COVID-19, most frequently as mediastinal and hilar nodes with 18 F-FDG uptake (35.7%), followed by incidental pulmonary embolism in two patients (14.3%). In the control group, extra-pulmonary findings were observed in a single patient (11.1%) with 18 F-FDG uptake located to mediastinal, hilar, and cervical nodes. Nasopharyngeal and hepatic SUVmax were similar in both groups., Conclusion: In cancer patients with asymptomatic COVID-19 pneumonia, 18 F-FDG PET-CT findings are more frequently limited to thoracic structures, suggesting that an early and silent distant involvement is very rare. Pulmonary embolism is a frequent and potentially severe finding raising special concern. PET-CT can provide new pathogenic insights about this novel disease.

Background: Primary progressive aphasia (PPA) is a neurodegenerative syndrome for which no effective treatment is available., Objective: We aimed to assess the effect of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), using personalized targeting., Methods: We conducted a randomized, double-blind, pilot study of patients with PPA receiving rTMS, with a subgroup of patients receiving active- versus control-site rTMS in a cross-over design. Target for active TMS varied among the cases and was determined during a pre-treatment phase from a list of potential regions. The primary outcome was changes in spontaneous speech (word count). Secondary outcomes included changes in other language tasks, global cognition, global impression of change, neuropsychiatric symptoms, and brain metabolism using FDG-PET., Results: Twenty patients with PPA were enrolled (14 with nonfluent and 6 with semantic variant PPA). For statistical analyses, data for the two variants were combined. Compared to the control group (n = 7), the group receiving active-site rTMS (n = 20) showed improvements in spontaneous speech, other language tasks, patient and caregiver global impression of change, apathy, and depression. This group also showed improvement or stabilization of results obtained in the baseline examination. Increased metabolism was observed in several brain regions after the therapy, particularly in the left frontal and parieto-temporal lobes and in the precuneus and posterior cingulate bilaterally., Conclusion: We found an improvement in language, patient and caregiver perception of change, apathy, and depression using high frequency rTMS. Background: Primary progressive aphasia (PPA) is a clinical syndrome including a group of neurodegenerative disorders that present with language impairment. We hypothesised that impairment in reading prosody may be present in a subgroup of patients with PPA, and particularly non-fluent PPA (nfvPPA), because of the impairment of key brain regions involved in the pathophysiology of speech dysprosody and reading observed in these patients., Methods: Ninety-five participants were evaluated using a narrative text comprising several declarative, exclamatory, and interrogative sentences, as well as a comprehensive language protocol. Patients were also examined with 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography imaging., Results: Impairment was more frequent and more severe in patients with nfvPPA, especially in the subgroup of patients with Apraxia of Speech (AOS). Patients with nfvPPA, mainly those with AOS, showed lower values in several pitch variables. Statistically significant differences were also observed in sentence duration, reading times, and types of error. A regression model including mean length of utterances, time after full stops, number of pauses, and number of pitch variables below the mean, correctly classified 70-71.3% of patients. When combined with sentence repetition task, the percentage of patients correctly classified was 96.2% and 92.4%, respectively, for each classification. The left frontal lobe was the region most strongly correlated with reading prosody parameters. Specific tasks displayed additional correlations with the left parietal and occipital lobes; right frontal lobe, thalamus, and caudate; and right cerebellum., Conclusion: Reading prosody is relevant in PPA diagnosis and classification. Because reading prosody may be quantified, it is amenable to use in diagnosis and follow-up. We found neuroimaging correlation with metabolism in the left frontal lobe, as well as in other regions including the right frontal lobe, basal ganglia, and cerebellum, which suggests that these may be the main brain regions involved in prosodic control in patients with PPA., (Copyright © 2020 Elsevier Ltd. The inclusion of 18 F-FDG PET as a biomarker in the diagnostic criteria of neurodegenerative diseases and its indication in the presurgical assessment for drug-resistant epilepsies allow to improve specificity of these diagnosis. The traditional interpretation of neurological PET studies has been performed qualitatively, although in the last decade, several quantitative evaluation methods have emerged. This technical development has become relevant in clinical practice, improving specificity, reproducibility and reducing the interrater reliability derived from visual analysis. In this article we update/review the main imaging processing techniques currently used. Objective: To study the clinical, cognitive, and radiological progression of a cohort of patients with MS, taking into account the amyloid PET with 18 F-florbetaben analyses., Methods: Twenty-nine patients with MS were assessed with longitudinal structural MRI and a clinical and comprehensive neuropsychological protocol, with a mean interval between assessments of 18 ± 3.31 months. 18 F-florbetaben PET was performed at baseline. Uptake was analysed in demyelinating plaques (DWM) and normal-appearing white matter (NAWM). Results were correlated with clinical, cognitive and MRI data., Results: Patients with cognitive decline over the follow-up period showed a lower standardised uptake value ratio in NAWM and lower thalamic volume and a higher lesion load in the baseline MRI. Myelin status was correlated with EDSS and cognitive tests mainly evaluating visuospatial function and working memory. Lower uptake in NAWM at baseline was also associated with a growth in white matter lesion volume over time., Conclusions: Lower white matter uptake in amyloid PET is associated with cognitive decline and an increase in white matter lesion volume during the follow-up. Background: Hypometabolism of the posterior cingulate cortex (PCC) is an important diagnostic feature of late-onset, amnestic Alzheimer's disease (AD) measured with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET). However, it is unclear whether PCC hypometabolism has diagnostic value in young-onset, non-amnestic variants of AD, which exhibit less pathology in the hippocampus and default mode network., Objective: Evaluate the prevalence and diagnostic value of PCC hypometabolism in non-amnestic variants of AD., Methods: We retrospectively identified 60 patients with young-onset, atypical dementia who have undergone a detailed clinical evaluation, FDG-PET, and an amyloid biomarker (amyloid-PET or cerebrospinal fluid analysis). We quantitatively analyzed regional hypometabolism in 70 regions of interest (ROI) using the MIMneuro® software., Results: Based on a cut-off of z-score < -1.5 for significant PCC hypometabolism, the prevalence of PCC hypometabolism in non-amnestic variants of AD was 65% compared to 28% in clinical variants of frontotemporal dementia (FTD). The ROI with the maximal hypometabolism was the dominant middle temporal gyrus in the language variant of AD (mean z score -2.28), middle occipital gyrus in PCA (-3.24), middle temporal gyrus in frontal AD (-2.70), and angular gyrus in corticobasal syndrome due to AD (-2.31). The PCC was not among the 10 most discriminant regions between non-amnestic variants of AD versus clinical variants of FTD., Conclusion: We conclude that PCC hypometabolism is not a discriminant feature to distinguish non-amnestic variants of AD from clinical variants of FTD-and should be interpreted with caution in patients with young-onset, non-amnestic dementia.

Background: The analysis of health and medical data is crucial for improving the diagnosis precision, treatments and prevention. In this field, machine learning techniques play a key role. However, the amount of health data acquired from digital machines has high dimensionality and not all data acquired from digital machines are relevant for a particular disease. Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA) is a neurodegenerative syndrome including several specific diseases, and it is a good model to implement machine learning analyses. In this work, we applied five feature selection algorithms to identify the set of relevant features from 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography images of the main areas affected by PPA from patient records. On the other hand, we carried out classification and clustering algorithms before and after the feature selection process to contrast both results with those obtained in a previous work. We aimed to find the best classifier and the more relevant features from the WEKA tool to propose further a framework for automatic help on diagnosis. Dataset contains data from 150 FDG-PET imaging studies of 91 patients with a clinic prognosis of PPA, which were examined twice, and 28 controls. Our method comprises six different stages: (i) feature extraction, (ii) expertise knowledge supervision (iii) classification process, (iv) comparing classification results for feature selection, (v) clustering process after feature selection, and (vi) comparing clustering results with those obtained in a previous work., Results: Experimental tests confirmed clustering results from a previous work. Although classification results for some algorithms are not decisive for reducing features precisely, Principal Components Analisys (PCA) results exhibited similar or even better performances when compared to those obtained with all features., Conclusions: Although reducing the dimensionality does not means a general improvement, the set of features is almost halved and results are better or quite similar. Finally, it is interesting how these results expose a finer grain classification of patients according to the neuroanatomy of their disease.

Introduction: Primary progressive aphasia (PPA) is a clinical syndrome of neurodegenerative origin with 3 main variants: non-fluent, semantic, and logopenic. However, there is some controversy about the existence of additional subtypes. Our aim was to study the language and cognitive features associated with a new proposed classification for PPA., Material and Methods: Sixty-eight patients with PPA in early stages of the disease and 20 healthy controls were assessed with a comprehensive language and cognitive protocol. They were also evaluated with 18 F-FDG positron emision tomography (PET). Patients were classified according to FDG PET regional metabolism, using our previously developed algorithm based on a hierarchical agglomerative cluster analysis with Ward's linkage method. Five variants were found, with both the non-fluent and logopenic variants being split into 2 subtypes. Machine learning techniques were used to predict each variant according to language assessment results., Results: Non-fluent type 1 was associated with poorer performance in repetition of sentences and reading of irregular words than non-fluent type 2. Conversely, the second group showed a higher degree of apraxia of speech. Patients with logopenic variant type 1 performed more poorly on action naming than patients with logopenic type 2. Language assessments were predictive of PET-based subtypes in 86%-89% of cases using clustering analysis and principal components analysis., Conclusions: Our study supports the existence of 5 variants of PPA. These variants show some differences in language and FDG PET imaging characteristics. Machine learning algorithms using language test data were able to predict each of the 5 PPA variants with a relatively high degree of accuracy, and enable the possibility of automated, machine-aided diagnosis of PPA variants., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier Ltd. The ability to reject an automatic tendency, i.e. inhibition, has been linked to the prefrontal cortex, but its neural underpinnings are still controversial. Neurodegenerative diseases represent an interesting model to explore this issue, given its frequent impairment in these disorders. We investigated the inhibitory impairment and its neural basis using four different tests, which evaluate the presence of inhibitory dysfunction (Stroop test, Hayling test, and two graphical perseveration tests), and assessed their correlation with brain metabolism using 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography in a group of 76 participants with behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD), Alzheimer's disease (AD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and healthy controls (HC). Inhibition impairment was more frequent in bvFTD and AD, than ALS and HC. AD and bvFTD only differed in the strategy used in Hayling test, and the frequency of impairment in graphical perseveration tests. Correlation between inhibition tests was moderate. The Stroop test correlated with several regions of the frontal and parietal lobes, mainly on the left side. Hayling test correlated with almost all regions of the frontal lobe and, especially, with the orbitofrontal cortex. Some differences in the impaired regions in each disease were found. Inhibition ability was mainly impaired in bvFTD and AD, and it correlated with the bilateral frontal lobe metabolism. There were certain particularities according to the specific task and patients evaluated. These dissimilarities may support the concept of inhibition as a multidimensional construct, with the involvement of common and divergent neural mechanisms.

Patients with metastatic squamous cell cancer of the head and neck (SCCHN) have a poor prognosis, with most patients surviving less than a year. Immunotherapy (IO) is changing the natural history of the disease and programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) inhibitors are showing notable improvements in survival with a more favourable toxicity profile than chemotherapy. To our knowledge, there are no data regarding how checkpoint blockade inhibitors may behave at rechallenge in SCCHN. We present the case of a metastatic hypopharyngeal cancer patient who after progressing clinically and radiologically to PD-L1-based IO and then to second-line cetuximab-based chemotherapy, achieved a partial response to third-line nivolumab. Our case shows that PD(L)1 rechallenge after interval chemotherapy may be worth considering in SCCHN. Studies should try to address which is the optimal treatment sequence in the era of IO in SCCHN.

Background: Primary progressive aphasia (PPA) is a heterogeneous syndrome that is difficult to diagnose at early stages. Plasma neurofilament light chain (NFL) has been proposed as a potential biomarker for PPA., Objective: To examine the diagnostic properties of plasma NFL in PPA and to evaluate its association with clinical stages of the disease and brain metabolism., Methods: Our study included 80 participants (13 with non-fluent, 12 with semantic, and 16 with logopenic variant PPA; 13 with amnestic Alzheimer's disease [AD]; 13 with behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia; and 13 healthy controls). Plasma NFL concentration was measured using a high-sensitivity enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit. PET imaging was performed in a subgroup of patients., Results: NFL discriminated patients from controls with an area under the curve of 0.914 (95% CI, 0.843-0.984; p < 0.001) (cut-off: 76.46 pg/mL; 94% sensitivity, 76.9% specificity). There were no significant differences between clinical syndromes (PPA subtypes), the main clinical forms of dementia (frontotemporal dementia and AD), or the expected pathological groups (frontotemporal lobar degeneration-tau [FTLD-tau], FTLD-TDP43, and AD). NFL levels showed weak to moderate correlations with age and functional scale score. We found no significant correlation with the extent of hypometabolism observed on FDG-PET images., Conclusion: Plasma NFL is a non-specific marker of neurodegeneration, and may be helpful in the diagnosis of PPA. However, NFL does not permit differential diagnosis between PPA subtypes and is not correlated with the extent of neurodegeneration.

We aimed to study the expression of circulating heat-shock protein HSP70 and exosomes in plasma of a cohort of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) at different stages. We performed correlations with clinical scales and FDG-PET. HSP70 levels were higher within exosomes than free in plasma. Moderate correlations were found between exosomal HSP70 and CDR, FTLD-CDR, and extension of hypometabolism. Our results suggest modifications in the level of exosomal HSP70 during the course of neurodegeneration, regardless of AD or FTD, and therefore HSP70 could have a potential role in the follow-up of these disorders.

Several circulating biomarkers and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have been correlated with efficacy and tolerability to antiangiogenic agents. These associations remain unexplored in well-differentiated, metastatic pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors treated with the multitargeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor sunitinib. We have assessed the effect on tumor response at 6 months, overall survival, progression-free survival and safety of 14 SNPs, and 6 soluble proteins. Forty-three patients were recruited. Two SNPs in the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 3 (VEGFR-3) gene predicted lower overall survival: rs307826 with hazard ratio (HR) 3.67 (confidence interval [CI] 95%, 1.35-10.00) and rs307821 with HR 3.84 (CI 95%, 1.47-10.0). Interleukin-6 was associated with increased mortality: HR 1.06 (CI 95%, 1.01-1.12), and osteopontin was associated with shorter PFS: HR 1.087 (1.01-1.16), independently of Ki-67. Furthermore, levels of osteopontin remained higher at the end of the study in patients considered non-responders: 38.5 ng/mL vs. responders: 18.7 ng/mL, p-value=0.039. Dynamic upward variations were also observed with respect to IL-8 levels in sunitinib-refractory individuals: 28.5 pg/mL at baseline vs. 38.3 pg/mL at 3 months, p-value=0.024. Background: Primary progressive aphasia (PPA) is a clinical syndrome characterized by the neurodegeneration of language brain systems. Three main clinical forms (non-fluent, semantic, and logopenic PPA) have been recognized, but applicability of the classification and the capacity to predict the underlying pathology is controversial. We aimed to study FDG-PET imaging data in a large consecutive case series of patients with PPA to cluster them into different subtypes according to regional brain metabolism. Methods: 122 FDG-PET imaging studies belonging to 91 PPA patients and 28 healthy controls were included. We developed a hierarchical agglomerative cluster analysis with Ward's linkage method, an unsupervised clustering algorithm. We conducted voxel-based brain mapping analysis to evaluate the patterns of hypometabolism of each identified cluster. Results: Cluster analysis confirmed the three current PPA variants, but the optimal number of clusters according to Davies-Bouldin index was 6 subtypes of PPA. This classification resulted from splitting non-fluent variant into three subtypes, while logopenic PPA was split into two subtypes. Voxel-brain mapping analysis displayed different patterns of hypometabolism for each PPA group. New subtypes also showed a different clinical course and were predictive of amyloid imaging results. Conclusion: Our study found that there are more than the three already recognized subtypes of PPA. These new subtypes were more predictive of clinical course and showed different neuroimaging patterns. Our results support the usefulness of FDG-PET in evaluating PPA, and the applicability of computational methods in the analysis of brain metabolism for improving the classification of neurodegenerative disorders.

Objectives: Apathy is one of the most common and disabling syndromes of dementia. Clinical apathy expression and neuroanatomical basis of apathy seem to differ between behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) and Alzheimer's disease (AD), although evidence is scarce and poorly understood. Our main purposes were to compare the clinical apathy profile from patients with bvFTD and AD and analyze the relationship between apathy and brain metabolism measured using positron emission tomography imaging with 18 F fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG-PET)., Methods: Forty-two bvFTD, 42 AD, and 30 healthy volunteers without cognitive or behavioral complaints were included. Apathy was defined using Robert's 2009 diagnostic criteria, and specific apathy characteristics were assessed with the Lille Apathy Rating Scale. All participants underwent FDG-PET brain scan to provide data for voxel-based morphometric analysis., Results: Multivariate analysis showed that subjects affected by bvFTD displayed greater impairment of emotional apathy and self-awareness in comparison with AD sample. Additionally, FDG-PET imaging analyses revealed that apathy was associated with different neuroanatomical substrates in each dementia group: left lateral prefrontal, medial frontal/anterior cingulate, lateral orbitofrontal and anterior insular cortices in bvFTD, and right anterior cingulate in AD., Conclusions: These results support that apathy is a complex syndrome, with different clinical expressions across different pathological conditions. Those differences in qualitative aspects of apathy seem to be associated with differences in the damage sites, as shown by our FDG-PET imaging analysis. Our findings provide a better knowledge about pathophysiology of apathy in dementia, which could have practical implications for therapeutic management. Background: The Free and Cued Selective Reminding Test (FCSRT) is the most accurate test for the diagnosis of prodromal Alzheimer's disease (AD). Recently, a novel cognitive test, the Loewenstein-Acevedo Scale for Semantic Interference and Learning (LASSI-L), has been developed in order to provide an early diagnosis., Objective: To compare the diagnostic accuracy of the FCSRT and the LASSI-L for the diagnosis of AD in its preclinical and prodromal stages using 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) as a reference., Methods: Fifty patients consulting for subjective memory complaints without functional impairment and at risk for AD were enrolled and evaluated using FCSRT, LASSI-L, and FDG-PET. Participants were evaluated using a comprehensive neurological and neuropsychological protocol and were assessed with the FCSRT and LASSI-L. FDG-PET was acquired concomitantly and used for classification of patients as AD or non-AD according to brain metabolism using both visual and semi-quantitative methods., Results: LASSI-L scores allowed a better classification of patients as AD/non-AD in comparison to FCSRT. Logistic regression analysis showed delayed recall and failure to recovery from proactive semantic interference from LASSI-L as independent statistically significant predictors, obtaining an area under the curve of 0.894. This area under the curve provided a better discrimination than the best FCSRT score (total delayed recall, area under the curve 0.708, p = 0.029)., Conclusions: The LASSI-L, a cognitive stress test, was superior to FCSRT in the prediction of AD features on FDG-PET. This emphasizes the possibility to advance toward an earlier diagnosis of AD from a clinical perspective.

Background: Pseudotumoral multiple sclerosis is a rare form of demyelinating disease of the central nervous system. Positron emission tomography (PET) using amyloid-tracers has also been suggested as a marker of damage in white matter lesions in multiple sclerosis due to the nonspecific uptake of these tracers in white matter., Method: We present the case of a 59 year-old woman with a pathological-confirmed pseudotumoral multiple sclerosis, who was studied with the amyloid tracer 18 F-florbetaben. The patient had developed word-finding difficulties and right hemianopia twelve years ago. In that time, MRI showed a lesion on the left hemisphere with an infiltrating aspect in frontotemporal lobes. Brain biopsy showed demyelinating areas and inflammation. During the following years, two new clinical relapses occurred., Results: 18 F-florbetaben PET showed lower uptake in the white matter lesion visualized in the CT and MRI images. Decreased tracer uptake was also observed in a larger area of the left hemisphere beyond the lesions observed on MRI or CT. White matter lesion volume on FLAIR was 44.2mL, and tracer uptake change between damaged white matter and normal appearing white matter was - 40.5%. Standardized uptake value was inferior in the pseudotumoral lesion than in the other white matter lesions., Conclusion: We report the findings of amyloid PET in a patient with pseudotumoral multiple sclerosis. Reading impairment is an important feature in Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA). The Spanish orthography entails completely regular spelling to sound correspondences, so reading disorders may be different to English. In the current study, reading, phonological and semantic abilities of 35 patients with the three variants of PPA, and 13 healthy volunteers were assessed. Brain metabolism was concomitantly obtained from each participant using 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography imaging. Two main patterns of impairment were identified: difficulties in nonwords reading with preservation of exception words in agrammatic and logopenic aphasia, and the inverse pattern in semantic dementia. Left frontal and left parietotemporal regions were associated to nonwords reading, while the anterior temporal lobe was related to reading of exception words. These results support the usefulness of examining reading abilities in the differential diagnosis of PPA variants, and suggest potential types of words that could be used in Spanish to assess these patients., (Copyright © 2017 Elsevier Ltd.
