Introdução: Registros arqueológicos relatam que o uso das plantas medicinais acontece desde a pré-história, com apontamentos de que o homem ao se alimentar de raízes e ervas, instintivamente, utilizava as plantas como medicamentos e, diante da pandemia de COVID-19, deve-se levar em consideração que a busca pelo tratamento de uma doença, sem a menor perspectiva de controle, passe por todos os meandros da medicina incluindo a medicina alternativa, por meio das plantas medicinais. Objetivo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi descrever os artigos científicos publicados sobre extratos de plantas e óleos essenciais que possuem atuação sobre o vírus SARS-CoV-2 no período de 2020 a 2022. Método: Tratou-se de estudo exploratório, descritivo e retrospectivo, realizado, por meio de revisão bibliográfica. Resultados: O total de artigos recuperados foi de 424 sobre extratos de plantas e 15 sobre óleos essenciais que, após a exclusão de artigos, selecionou-se 34 (8%) de extratos de plantas e dois (13%) de óleos essenciais, com os quais se desenvolveram as análises. Conclusão: Quanto às características formais da produção científica, concluiu-se que no ano de 2020 não foram encontrados artigos sobre os temas. Os autores chineses, indianos e japoneses tiveram a mesma totalidade de publicações, mas os indianos e japoneses apresentaram artigos mais atualizados. As instituições públicas foram as que mais publicaram sobre os temas e a China foi o país com maior número de publicações. Nas análises de rede de correlação por coautoria e por coocorrência dos termos, concluiu-se que as coautorias dos dois temas não apresentaram diferenças nas correlações entre os autores e os termos MeSH que tiveram maior força de relacionamento foram SARS-CoV-2, Plant Extracts, COVID-19, Humans, Antiviral Agents e Volatile Oils. Sobre os conteúdos abordados concluiu-se que as plantas medicinais, seus extratos e os óleos essenciais possuem potencial eficácia sobre a inibição do vírus SARS-CoV-2, com exceção do óleo essencial de eucalipto que possui efeito contrário no que diz respeito à infectividade do vírus.

This study evaluated the prevalence of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) in dental students and its association with psychosocial factors (general health, quality of life and anxiety). Sixty students were initially selected and analyzed for TMD presence by the Diagnostic Criteria for TMD (DC/TMD). The participants answered self-administered questionnaires to assess general health (General Health Questionnaire – GHQ), quality of life (World Health Organization Quality of Life – WHOQOL-brief), and anxiety (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory – STAI). The prevalence of TMD among the participants was 43.33% (n = 26), 26% (n = 16) were diagnosed with painful disorders, being myalgia the most prevalent diagnosis (21.67%; n = 13). About 16.67% (n = 10) of the participants presented disc displacement with reduction. All indicators of general health showed statistically significant difference such as psychological stress (p = 0.004), death wish (p = 0.006), distrust in performance (p < 0.001), sleep disturbance (p = 0.025), psychosomatic disorder (p < 0.001), and general health (p = 0.003). Quality of life was associated with the presence of painful disorder in the physical (p = 0.001), psychological (p = 0.003) and general (p = 0.015) dimensions. The state of anxiety (STAI-S) showed statistically significant difference (p = 0.042). In conclusion, painful muscle disorder was the most prevalent TMD subtype in dental students and several psychosocial factors are important indicators of TMD presence.

Objetivou-se com este estudo avaliar a influência dos processos de extração arraste de vapor (S1) e enzimático (S2) sobre a composição polifenólica de sucos de uva das variedades Bordô, Concord e BRS Violeta produzidos na região do Vale do Rio do Peixe-SC. Foram identificados e quantificados 12 compostos fenólicos por cromatografia líquida de alta eficiência com detector de arranjo de diodos (CLAE-DAD), que diferiram sua concentração de acordo com a variedade e sistema de extração. A partir de análises de componentes principais observou-se que ‘BRS Violeta’ apresentou forte correlação com os ácidos cafeico e 4-hidroxibenzóico, bem como, com catequina e tirosol e a soma dos compostos fenólicos. ‘Bordô’ no S1 e S2 apresentaram a maior concentração para t-resveratrol e ácido vanílico. ‘Concord’ S1 e S2, apresentaram as menores concentrações de fenóis. A variedade foi determinante para a concentração final de cada composto fenólico, devido aos determinantes genéticos e propriedades tecnológicas. Os sistemas de extração influenciam na composição fenólica dos sucos, no entanto, o impacto sobre cada composto específico foi diferente em cada variedade.

BackgroundPeriodontitis (PE) and coronary heart disease (CHD) possess multiple mechanisms for a putative association. This case-control study compared the periodontal status among CHD subjects to controls without CHD, while also investigating atheroma invasion by known periodontal pathogens.Methods161 subjects participated in this study were divided into three CHD groups: No CHD, chronic CHD, acute CHD. Additional analysis involved grouping subjects according to number of atheromas: no atheroma, 1–4 atheromas, 5–18 atheromas. Data were collected from medical records, periodontal examinations, and questionnaires that included demographic, behavioral, and oral health variables. Angiographic catheterizations were analyzed according to the number of atheroma lesions, lesion size, lesion location, and atheroma lesion stability. Lipoprotein profile, inflammatory markers and cells were analyzed. The microbiological branch added 30 individuals who had their atheroma lesion and subgingival plaque analyzed using polymerase chain reaction probes against the 16 s region, red complex and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans' DNA.ResultsSubjects with CHD had high levels of systemic inflammatory markers and low levels of high-density lipoproteins compared to subjects without CHD. Subjects without CHD and clear coronaries had a prevalence of mild CAL, while individuals with more atheroma lesions had advanced CAL and more active PE. Subjects with more advanced CAL were 4 times more likely to have CHD compared to subjects with less, which is comparable to smoking. Only 4 subjects had the screened pathogens detected in atheroma, although these subjects also have the screened pathogens in subgingival plaque. However, 80% of atheromas had bacteria.ConclusionsCHD and PE showed similarities in progression while active PE led to more atheroma lesions that also tended to be larger in size.

ABSTRACT Blackberries have a short post-harvest conservation period, making it necessary to optimize harvest and storage conditions. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of refrigerated storage and maturation stage on the physicochemical quality of ‘BRS Cainguá’ blackberries, produced in an organic system. Blackberries from an experimental orchard, were harvested at three ripeness stages (RS), with RS1 being fruits with 100% red skin; RS2 skin 50% red and 50% black; and EM3 100% black skin. The samples were stored in a cold chamber at 4±0.5ºC and 90-95% RH for 12 days. The evaluations were carried out after 0, 3, 6, 9 and 12 days of storage, for: weight loss (WL), soluble solids (SS), pH, titratable acidity (TA), ratio (SS/TA) and color parameters. Blackberries harvested in RS3 had the highest SS content, lowest TA and the highest SS/TA ratio and pH. During storage, TA and WL showed decreasing and increasing linear responses, respectively, regardless of the RS of the fruits. Harvesting based on the skin color of ‘BRS Cainguá’ blackberries influences the physicochemical quality and postharvest conservation. Fruits harvested with 100% black skin, have the best quality and are the most suitable for subsequent refrigerated storage.

Babassu carbohydrate fibers (BCF) are abundant and renewable materials that are currently underutilized. The present work evaluates the use of alkaline-treated BCF (TF − 0.6, 1.0, 1.4% w/w) as additive to cementitious mortars. Mass consistency, specific mass, water absorption, void ratio, and porosity, as well as compressive and indirect tension fracture strengths, were evaluated and compared to control mortars (without fiber addition). The results confirmed that the treated BCF can be an effective alternative as a potential reinforcement in cementitious composites. Furthermore, they are prepared by an alkaline treatment that is easy to operate, cost-effective, and efficient. The addition of BCF to the cement matrix decreased the water absorption capacity and void ratio, whereas increased compressive and tensile strength compared to mortars prepared in the absence of BCF. In particular, the addition of 1.0% of TF increased the compressive strength by up to 77%. Good interfacial adhesion of the alkaline-treated BCF with the rest of mortar components resulted in an increase in the values of mechanical properties. The studied fibers are potential materials for new sustainable mortars with improved properties.

ABSTRACT Purpose: To conduct a systematic review of nanoparticles’ use in the treatment of prostate cancer in animals. Methods: A systematic review was conducted in the databases PubMed, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS), Cochrane Library, and EMBASE, and the descriptors were chosen based on terms indexed in Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS)/Medical Subject Headings (MESH), which are: nanoparticles, nanomedicine, and prostate cancer. The systematic review protocol was registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO) with ID CRD42021271008. Results: A total of 3,897 articles was chosen; after reading the inclusion and exclusion criteria, six scientific articles with themes involving nanoparticles carrying medications were reached. Among the nanoparticles found, there were carboxymethylcellulose polymer, micellar casein nanoparticles, liquid crystal nanoparticles, serum albumin nanoparticles, and poly(ethylene glycol)-block-polylactide (mPEG-PLA) conjugated nanoparticles encapsulating cabazitaxel, docetaxel, and flutamide, which were nanoparticles used to treat prostate cancer in animals. Conclusions: Through using nanoparticles to encapsulate medications for treating prostate cancer in animals, studies show a decrease in weight and tumor reduction, with nanoparticles resulting in greater survival time than free medications. The improved permeability and retention effect of nanoparticles in the bloodstream contribute to their effectiveness.

ABSTRACT Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the effects of resistance and aerobic exercise on colorectal cancer (CRC) development in mice induced by azoxymethane (AOM) coupled with colitis. Methods: Forty animals induced with CRC were used, divided into five groups of eight animals each: sedentary; continuous aerobics; continuous anaerobic; aerobic PI; and anaerobic PI. AOM was administered to the animals in two doses of 10 mg/kg each over the course of two weeks, the first dose administered in the third week and the second administered in the fourth. For the colitis, three cycles of dextran sodium sulfate were administered for five days, separated by two weeks of water. The 14th week of the experiment saw the euthanasia, the removal of their colons, and the creation of microscopy slides for histological analysis. Results: Preneoplastic lesions developed in all five groups; there were no significant differences between them. However, in terms of inflammatory symptoms, mucosal ulceration was much more frequently in the exercise groups than in the sedentary group (p = 0.016). The number of polyps overall (p = 0.002), the distal region’s polyp development (p = 0.003), and the proximal region’s polyp development (p = 0.04) were all statistically different than sedentary group. Conclusions: The study discovered no significant difference in disease activity index scores between groups, but there was a significant difference in the number of polyps and the presence of mucosal ulceration in the colon.

Adapting grape varieties to new viticultural regions requires studying the influence of rootstock on wine quality. This study aimed to identify rootstocks that most enhance the enological characteristics of grapes of the Sangiovese variety grown in the high-altitude region of Santa Catarina. The experiment was set up as a completely randomized design in a factorial scheme. Factor A represented the vintages (2019 and 2020), while Factor B denoted the rootstocks: ‘101-14 Mgt’, ‘Harmony’, ‘IAC 572’, ‘Paulsen 1103’, and ‘VR 043-43’. We assessed the physicochemical and sensory characteristics of wines from both vintages. Wines from the ‘IAC 572’ and ‘VR 043-43’ rootstocks had the lowest alcohol concentrations. The ‘VR 043-43’ rootstock contributed to the highest titratable acidity in the 2020 vintage wines. Additionally, wines from 2020 displayed a more vivid red color than their 2019 counterparts. We deduced that the Sangiovese wine quality is affected by the cultivation year. Sensory evaluations revealed that the tested rootstocks did not considerably alter the overall balance of the wine. However, the ‘101-14 Mgt’ and ‘Harmony’ rootstocks notably increased the alcohol concentration and phenolic compound levels in Sangiovese wines.

Abstract Objective To evaluate the treatment of patients with giant cell tumors of bone treated from 2009 to 2019 in a philanthropic hospital, as well as to try and determine the regional clinical and epidemiological profile, aiming to enrich the Brazilian data set and compare our findings with those of the literature. Methods An analytical, observational, and cross-sectional study with retrospective data collection and a quantitative approach, analyzing medical records of patients with giant cell tumors treated at a philanthropic hospital from 2009 to 2019. Results We evaluated 49 medical records; 55.1% of the patients were women, 53.1% were aged between 20 and 40 years, 69.4% of the cases were Campanacci grade III, and 30.6% affected the proximal end of the tibia. The rate of pathological fractures secondary to the tumor and pulmonary metastasis was low. More than 69% of the patients underwent intralesional surgery. Recurrence occurred in 16.3% of the cases. Conclusion The criteria used for the diagnosis, classification, and treatment at our service followed the standards established by the literature, and they can guide further research and improve local prognosis in the future.

ABSTRACT Downy mildew (Plamopora viticola) is one of the major problems to produce wine grapes in Brazil, a main cause of yield losses in the Southern region of the country. An alternative to the use of pesticides is the use of resistant varieties (PIWI): wine grapes combining high oenological potential and resistance to diseases. The goal of this work was to assess the vegetative and productive performance and maturation of three PIWI varieties (‘Felicia’, ‘Calardis Blanc’ and ‘Helios’) produced at altitudes of 840m and 1250m in the 2020, 2021 and 2022 vintages. The study is focused on four phenological stages: budbreak (BBCH 7), full bloom (BBCH 65), veraison (BBCH 81) and maturity/harvest (BBCH 89). The criteria for measuring the productive performance were, the number of clusters, average cluster weight, production per plant, yield and Ravaz index. As parameters for technological and phenolic maturation, pH, soluble solids, total acidity and total polyphenols were evaluated. The budbreak occurred at the end of August until the second fortnight of September, the flowering occurred in the second week of October, the veraison occurred during the month of December, and the maturity/harvest occurred from the second fortnight of January until the beginning of February. The earliest budbreak occurred with ‘Felicia’ in the vineyard at 1250m and the latest occurred with ‘Calardis Blanc’. Regardless of the vineyard altitude, there was practically no difference in the flowering date between varieties and the vineyards altitude, the veraison and the maturity/harvest occurred earlier in the vineyard at 840m. The varieties produced at 840 m had a shorter cycle and proved to be more productive when compared to those produced at 1250 m. The studied varieties showed good phenological adaptation, high yield and maturation indices suitable for the production of quality still and sparkling white wines at both altitudes. From the results obtained, ‘Felicia’ and ‘Calardis Blanc’ seem to be the most promising varieties for cultivation in both altitude ranges.

ABSTRACT Objective: To perform an immunohistochemical evaluation using the IDH1 and Ki67 markers in patients who underwent treatment for chondrosarcoma in a reference service center in Brazil. Methods: Retrospective analytical observational study using medical records of patients diagnosed with chondrosarcoma. Besides the epidemiological and clinical profile, important variables for prognosis and correlation with immunohistochemical analysis results with Ki67 and IDH1 markers were evaluated. Results: Histopathological examinations by immunohistochemistry of 56 patients were analyzed, 52% of which were women, with the age group 20-60 years being more prevalent. Grade 1 and 2 histological subtypes corresponded to most chondrosarcomas. The femur, humerus, and tibia were the most frequent anatomical sites. Most tumors (59%) were larger than 8 cm. Ki67 expression was very low (< 10%) in 98% of patients. The analysis of IDH1 was positive in 43% of the cases. The correlation between IDH1 positivity and tumor size was statistically significant, but regarding survival, we observed no significance. Conclusion: Immunohistochemical analysis using IDH1 and Ki67 markers in patients with conventional chondrosarcoma is not useful for prognostic guidance. Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of different bud-breaking substances on the budburst of the Barton, Desirable, and Jackson pecan (Carya illinoinensis) cultivars. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with four replicates. The treatments consisted of spraying different rates of commercial bud-break promoters on the trees of these cultivars, in order to induce budburst. The budburst percentage of axillary buds and the budburst heterogeneity index (BHI) were evaluated. Regardless of the used rate, the application of the hydrogen cyanamide product improved the budburst of the tested cultivars and reduced the BHI. In addition, water soluble N + Ca at 6% and water soluble N + organic C soluble in water at 7% significantly improve the budburst and reduce the BHI of the evaluated cultivars, being, therefore, potential alternatives to replace hydrogen cyanamide.

ABSTRACT Purpose: To evaluate the effect of physical exercise on the behavior of rodents with colorectal cancer induced through the use of elevated plus maze. Methods: We used 40 male hairless mice induced to colorectal cancer, divided into five groups: G1) submitted to pre- and post-induction swimming; G2) pre- and post-induction ladder; G3) post-induction swimming; G4) post-induction ladder; G5) sedentary. At the end of the 14th week, the animals were submitted to the plus maze test. Results: The mean length of stay in the open arm for G1 was 4.17 ± 6.50; G2 37.52 ± 40.7; G3 85.84 ± 42.5; G4 32.92 ± 23.17; and G5 4.09 ± 4.43. In the closed arm, it was 264 ± 23.43 in G1, 187.60 ± 47.73 in G2, 147.50 ± 40.03 in G3, 182.00 ± 40.40 in G4, and in G5 235.36 ± 14.28. In the center, G1 remained 31.86 ± 20.18, G2 74.85 ± 28.37, G3 66.69 ± 19.53, G4 60.55 ± 10.46, and G5 60.55 ± 23.65. Conclusions: Aerobic exercise for seven weeks after tumor induction showed less impact on the behavior of the animals. On the other hand, it significantly increased the animals’ stress level when applied for 14 weeks before and after tumor induction.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of different rootstocks and planting densities on the initial performance of the yield and quality of the Rebo grapes cultivars grown in a high altitude region of the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. An experimental design with randomized complete blocks was carried out in a 5×3 factorial arrangement. The treatments consisted of the combination of five rootstocks ('101-14 Mgt', 'IAC 572', 'Paulsen 1103', 'Harmony', and 'VR 043-43') with the 'Rebo' grape, and of three spacing between plants (1.0, 1.2, and 1.5 m). The evaluations took place during the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 crop seasons. The initial yield variables and the physicochemical characteristics of the grapes were evaluated. The '101-14 Mgt' rootstock provided early shoots, and the 'VR043-43' and 'IAC 572' rootstocks the latest shoots. The '101-14 Mgt' and 'VR043-43' rootstocks provided a higher yield. Plant spacing at 1.0 and 1.2 m increased the initial yield of the vineyard. The '101-14 Mgt' and 'Harmony' rootstocks contributed to the lower total acidity of must. The initial performance of the yield and quality of 'Rebo' wine grape is favored by the '101-14 Mgt' rootstock at the planting densities of 1.0 to 1.2 m.

O elemento selênio tem sido utilizado nos estudos atuais na área da medicina nutricional, noentanto são necessários estudos para avaliar o comportamento das dosagens de selênio e as interferências nutricionais sob o desenvolvimento da tangerina. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar os teores nutricionais foliares de tangerineira Satsuma cv. Okitsu (Citrus unshiu Marcovitch), submetidas à aplicação de doses crescentes de selênio, via foliar e via solo. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados com cinco repetições com três plantas por parcela, avaliando-se a planta central. Os tratamentos utilizados foram o controle (água) e as concentrações 10, 20 e 40 mgL-1 de selenito de sódio, aplicados por meio de pulverização na copa da planta (10copa, 20copa e 40copa) e no solo na projeção da copa (10solo, 20solo e 40solo). A amostragem foliar foi realizada de acordo com a metodologia de Malavolta modificada. Foram analisados os teores totais dos macronutrientes, e os micronutrientes. A aplicação de selênio via foliar na concentração de 10 e 20 mg L-1 proporcionaram melhores índices nutricionais em tangerina ‘Satsuma Okitsu’.

O pessegueiro (Prunus persica) apresenta grande impacto econômico global, por produzirem frutos apreciados em todo o mundo. Seus frutos climatérios amadurecem após a colheita, além disso, possuem alta perecibilidade pós-colheita. O objetivo deste trabalho foi buscar alternativas que ampliem ainda mais o tempo de armazenamento evitando-se o decaimento da qualidade dos pêssegos, utilizando o sistema refrigerado convencional (SAR) em contraponto com a atmosfera controlada (SAC) e dinâmica com ultrabaixo oxigênio (SAUO). O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado em um esquema fatorial 3 x 6 (3 sistemas x 6 períodos) de armazenamento, e treze parâmetros analisados pelo teste análise de variância, significância pelo teste Tukey e regressão. Os valores de sólidos solúveis variaram de 12,72ºBrix a 16,07ºBrix, a acidez titulável reduziu ao longo do armazenamento, já o pH apresentou variação significativa a partir de 40 dias entre os sistemas utilizados. A relação SS/AT alcançou os melhores índices no SAUO até 40 dias, já a firmeza de polpa e a perda de massa apresentaram redução nos SAC e SAUO, contrastando com elevada coloração da polpa. Açúcares redutores e não redutores apresentaram redução no SAC e SAUO aos 30 e 40 dias de armazenamento, já para os compostos fenólicos e atividade antioxidante, nestes sistemas, com 30, 40 e 50 dias os valores mantiveram-se semelhantes. Os carotenóides foram mantidos até 40 dias no SAUO. O SAC manteve os melhores parâmetros de qualidade físico-químicos analisados, juntamente com SAUO, sendo ambos os mais indicados. Os compostos fitoquímicos analisados neste estudo apresentaram poucas alterações durante os dias de armazenamento nos sistemas analisados.

Cave geotechnical studies have been the key to meeting the requirements of Brazilian environmental legislation for the conservation of speleological heritage in mining areas. This paper presents a methodology that classifies iron caves according to their susceptibility to structural instability called the Cave Geomechanical Index (CGI). This index combines four variables: (1) Rock Mass Rating (RMR), Bieniawski’ s geomechanical variable, which classifies the quality of the rock mass hosting the cave; (2) Hydraulic Radius (HR), an engineering variable that allows the dimension of the span to be evaluated; (3) Ceiling Shape (CS), a speleological variable that indicates whether the ceiling geometry of the cave spans is favorable or unfavorable for block formation, and (4) Ceiling Thickness (CT), a geotechnical variable that represents the depth between the ceiling of the cave and the surface of the ground regarding auto-support issues. The CGI was developed, applied and calibrated over four years, by monitoring 63 spans from 27 caves adjacent to active iron ore mines in Carajás, Pará state, Brazil, that had been authorized to be eliminated. This geomechanical classification system proved to be easy to implement and its results showed that 76% of the spans with breakdown occurrences in the caves were classified as high or very high susceptibility to structural instability, while 94% of the spans classified as low susceptibility did not show any signs of physical damage. The CGI is discussed with the focus on improving stability studies, predictability of cave breakdown mechanisms and geotechnical risk analysis of iron caves near mining operations.

Consumption of non-potable water is a relevant public health problem due to the possibility of transporting numerous chemical and microbiological contaminants. In 2005, the Brazilian Ministry of Health created the National Program of Surveillance in Environmental Health related to the Quality of Water for Human Consumption (VIGIAGUA), with the primary purpose of managing risks related to water supply to human populations in Brazilian territory. However, VIGIAGUA does not have a methodology capable of characterizing or managing risks. The objective of this research is to create a working model to transform raw data into conceptual data related to low-, medium- and high-risk levels. The data used in the application of the model were obtained through the analyses of water-quality surveillance conducted by the Regional Health Management of Itabira, a municipality with less than 10 thousand inhabitants, whose history of water contamination is alarming. Twelve samples/month were collected between May 2017 and April 2018. The results of the treated water analyses were classified according to the presence of hazards and categorized into risk levels. The results showed 83.3% contamination by total coliforms at the treatment plant and 91.6% in the distribution system. The Escherichia coli contamination was 16.7% in the treatment plant samples and 45.2% in the distribution system. The system was categorized as "High Risk". The analysis of untreated water samples was carried out for the purpose of knowing the contamination pattern of the raw water of the region, finding 100% contamination by total coliforms and 97.2% contamination by E. coli.

Passion fruit production in Brazil is concentrated in tropical regions, however, recently production has expanded to regions with temperate climate. Cultivar performance in different climate and soil can lead to variation in the contents of bioactive compounds in the juice and rind of the fruit. This study characterized the bioactive content of passion fruit rind and juice of six passion fruit genotypes (‘Catarina Roxo’, ‘Catarina’, ‘Urussanga’, ‘BRS Gigante Amarelo’, ‘BRS Rubi do Cerrado’, and ‘BRS Sol do Cerrado’) cultivated in southern Brazil. Phenolic, flavonoid, anthocyanin, carotenoid, and ascorbic acid contents and the antioxidant potential of each fruit portion from each genotype were evaluated. Fruit composition varied with genotype and evaluated tissue. Bioactive compound contents were greatest in the rind of ‘Urussanga’ and ‘Catarina’, whereas the juice of ‘BRS Sol do Cerrado’ and ‘Catarina Roxo’ had the greatest bioactive content. Given cultivar and tissue variability for bioactive content, postharvest use of passion fruit will determine the choice of cultivar to obtain a product with maximum bioactive compounds. Passion fruit genotypes evaluated in this study have shown to be potential sources of bioactive compounds. Fruit rind has the potential to be explored in the scientific and technological scope, due to its high amounts of phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of the use of UV-C radiation at an intensity of 0.53 KJ m-2, during strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa) cultivation, on the physicochemical and phytochemical parameters of the fruits. The used experimental design was completely randomized, in a single-factor arrangement with 11, 19, 29, and 39 UV-C applications and without UV-C application. The hue of the fruits was smaller at the end of the study period. pH varied in strawberries that received 39 applications of UV-C, and the soluble solids content differed with 19 applications. Antioxidant activity was lower in fruits with 11, 19, and 29 UV-C applications, whereas vitamin C content was lower only in fruits that received 29 applications. The use of UV-C radiation at an intensity of 0.53 KJ m-2, during strawberry cultivation, affects the physicochemical and phytochemical parameters of the fruits, but does not cause losses in their quality.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of chemical thinning with metamitron on fruit of the Maciel and Sensação peach (Prunus persica) tree cultivars, as well as to identify its relation to the carbohydrate content in their branches. The experimental design was randomized complete blocks, and the treatments were trees with no thinning, manual fruit thinning, and chemical thinning with 200 mg L-1 metamitron applied at 20, 40, and 60 days after full blooming. The evaluated variables were: abscission percentage, yield per plant, number of fruit, presence of lignin in fruit, and carbohydrate content in the branches. The carbohydrate content was evaluated in trees with and without chemical thinning seven days after the application of the product. The use of metamitron promotes fruit thinning in the ‘Maciel’ and ‘Sensação’ peach trees, with a decrease in the carbohydrate content in their branches. Metamitron application 20 and 40 days after full blooming favors fruit abscission in both studied cultivars.

ABSTRACT: Diversification of rootstock varieties, with consequent reduction in phytosanitary risks, has great importance to the sustainability of citrus cultivation in the south of Brazil. This study evaluated the performance of 42 rootstocks in the nursery phase to generate ‘Valencia Late’ sweet orange seedlings. Therefore, nucellar seedlings from the rootstocks under study were analyzed in relation to plant height, stem diameter, mortality rate and percentage of bud set after grafting. The experimental design was completely randomized with four replications of 20 sample units. Not adapted genotypes had high mortality rates, and the ones of both hybrids LCR x CTSW - 009 and LVK x LCR - 038 were 100% and 90%, respectively. Other 13 genotypes had mortality rates above 30%, and ‘Sunki’ mandarin was the female genitor of ten of them. ‘Swingle’ citrumelo was the rootstock with the highest development (plant height and stem diameter), associated with low mortality rate. In relation to the other rootstocks, the best results were the fast grafting diameter, associated with low mortality rate obtained by hybrids HTR - 053, LRF x (LCR x TR) - 005, CLEO x TRBN - 245, CLEO x TRSW - 287, and citrandarins ‘Indio’, ‘Riverside’ and ‘San Diego’, as well as Trifoliate orange and ‘Rangpur’ lime. In addition to Trifoliate orange, which is widely used in Rio Grande do Sul, these rootstocks have great potential in citriculture in the south of Brazil.

Abstract Lack of budburst inducers is a major problem in organic production of temperate fruits. This study aimed at evaluating the effect of alternative budburst inducers on kiwifruit vines of cultivar Bruno grown in an orchard in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul (RS), Brazil. Inducers efficiency was investigated in both 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 seasons. The first season comprised of ten treatments, which used garlic extract at different concentrations, both, associated with and without mineral oil; Welsh onion extract at different concentrations, both associated with and without mineral oil; just mineral oil; and control (no application). In the second season, evaluation was carried out ith treatments that performed well in the first season, garlic extract atdifferent concentrations associated with mineral oil, just mineral oil and control. The followingvariables were evaluated: budburst percentage, phenology (budburst and flowering), fruit set, number of fruit/plant, fruit mass/ plant, estimate production, mean mass, fruit length and diameter. Results showed that 10% garlic extract + 2% mineral oil induced the highest budburst percentages in both seasons; the position of buds on branches influences budburst; apical buds exhibit the highest budburst percentage; 15% garlic extract causes phytotoxicity to buds; and Welsh onion extract is inefficient to induce budburst.

ABSTRACT Objective: To compare the classification of CTS by the Phalen test with electromyography. Methods: Cross-sectional observational study. Patients at orthopedic outpatient clinic with carpal tunnel syndrome were evaluated by the Phalen test and compared with the result of the electroneuromyography. Results: Sample of 33 patients, mostly women (87.9%). Most patients were already diagnosed with severe CTS by ENMG. The results of the Phalen test and the electromyography were equal in 26 of the 33 patients (78.8%). Conclusion: The Phalen test showed its applicability, since it had results similar to those of ENMG in most cases, especially in the most severe ones. The exam studied is a possible tool for the classification and recommendation of surgical treatment. Level of evidence IV, Retrospective observational study.

Objetivou-se avaliar a produção e a qualidade de butiá sob influência de ácido giberélico. O experimento foi realizado no Centro Agropecuário da Palma, da Universidade Federal de Pelotas. Foram sorteados nove genótipos de butiazeiros (Butia odorata) que apresentavam idade estimada de 20 anos e produção de seis cachos. A concentração de ácido giberélico (GA3 ) utilizada foi 200 mg L-1, comparando com a testemunha (0 mg L-1). No período inicial de maturação dos cachos, foi coletada uma amostra composta de 50 frutos de cada cacho, sendo conduzida posteriormente ao laboratório de fruticultura. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado e unifatorial. As médias foram submetidas à análise de variância e quando significativas, foram submetidas ao teste de T. Foram avaliados a massa média de frutos por cacho, massa média de frutos, massa média de polpa, número de frutos, sólidos solúveis, relação (açúcares/acidez), rendimento médio de suco e rendimento de polpa, sendo que todas estas variáveis foram aumentadas no tratamento GA3 . O ciclo médio de produção, acidez titulável, massa média de amêndoa e amêndoas brocadas por pirênio foram reduzidos em GA3 . A aplicação de ácido giberélico é recomendada para a melhoria dos atributos físicos e químicos dos frutos de B.odorata

An iron cave in the vicinity of a mine in Carajás, Brazil, was selected to be mined within an assisted elimination project, planned to control all mine advancement operations towards the cave along with a strict speleological physical monitoring. It allowed, in a pioneering way, the recording of events in the cave from the first signs of damage until to the total collapse of the cave. The project lasted four years and it was possible to identify and describe four breakdown mechanisms in iron caves: Fragment downfall, Block downfall, Controlling structure reactivation, and Open discontinuity movement. The mechanisms occurred independently or together, and not necessarily in a chronological order. This work details and discusses the mechanisms and their relationships with the geostructural and geomechanical features of the cave to assist stability assessment studies.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of system-acquired resistance inducing compounds applied during the pre-harvest of ‘Navelina’ orange and ‘Ortanique’ tangor in controlling post-harvest disease caused by Penicillium digitatum. The products applied were acibenzolar-s-methyl (ASM), imidacloprid (IMI), methyl jasmonate (MeJa), sodium selenite, potassium silicate, and thiamethoxam (TMT). Sterile distilled water was used as the control. The applications were administered 45, 30, and 15 days before harvesting. In 2015 and 2016, 840 fruits were randomly collected, and when they reached commercial maturation, they were sanitized, half were pierced with a needle in the equatorial region. The fruits were inoculated with a 10 µL spore suspension (1 × 106 conidia mL-1) of P. digitatum, in the equatorial region. The experiment was performed with three replicates, each comprising 10 fruits and repeated over two consecutive crop seasons. Disease incidence was evaluated on pierced (at 72 and 144 h after inoculation [hai]) and unperforated (at 360 hai) fruits. For pierced fruits, lesion expansion rate (rL), disease severity, expansion rate of sporulating area (rE), and sporulating area were evaluated. The area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC) and the area under the sporulating area progress curve were calculated. Both cultivars were susceptible; however, the rL and rE had lower values for 'Ortanique'. The tested products reduced the disease incidence in both cultivars. Potassium silicate reduced rL and rE, whereas sodium selenite reduced rE. The disease severity was reduced by potassium silicate, sodium selenite, and ASM. AUDPC was reduced by sodium selenite and potassium silicate treatments. Among the tested products, potassium silicate and sodium selenite applied during the pre-harvest of 'Navelina' orange and 'Ortanique' tangor had the highest reductions for disease incidence (ranging from 14% to 37%, respectively) and severity (60% and 70%, respectively), rE (50% for both compounds), and total sporulating area (55% and 56%, respectively), reducing the green mold in post-harvested fruits caused by P. digitatum.

Nesse estudo foi avaliado o efeito do grau de maturação na qualidade pós-colheita de pêssegos cultivares Granada e Maciel, durante o armazenamento refrigerado. As frutas foram selecionadas nos estádios de maturação verde, meio-verde, meio-maduro e maduro, sendo armazenadas por até 30 dias as da cultivar Granada e até 40 dias as da cultivar Maciel, em temperatura de 0 ± 0,5oC e 85% a 90% de umidade relativa. A cada dez dias as frutas foram retiradas da câmara, e após três dias em temperatura de 20 ± 0,5oC avaliou-se a perda de peso, a firmeza de polpa, os sólidos solúveis totais (SST), a acidez total titulável (ATT), as porcentagens de podridões, o escurecimento interno, a farinosidade, a atividade da polifenoloxidase, os fenóis e características sensoriais. A partir dos resultados, pode-se concluir que pêssegos ‘Granada’, colhidos nos estádios de maturação meio-verde e meio-maduro são conservados com qualidade comercial, durante 30 e 20 dias, respectivamente; e os pêssegos ‘Maciel’, durante 20 dias, quando colhidos no estádio de maturação meio-verde e por dez dias no estádio meio-maduro.

Resumo Kiwis minimamente processados necessitam de técnicas para manter a qualidade dos frutos durante a conservação e o período de prateleira. Aditivos combinados à radiação ultravioleta podem ser uma alternativa para assegurar a qualidade das frutas por mais tempo de conservação. Neste contexto, foi proposto avaliar a eficiência do uso da radiação UV-C e diferentes aditivos na prevenção do escurecimento e conservação de kiwis ‘Bruno’ minimamente processados. As fatias de kiwi foram submetidas a soluções contendo os seguintes tratamentos: controle, ácido ascórbico a 1%; isoascorbato de sódio a 1%; ácido cítrico a 1%, depois, utilizou-se por dois minutos a radiação UV-C na intensidade de 2,71 kJ m-2. As bandejas foram armazenadas em câmara fria a 4 ± 1 ºC de temperatura, com umidade relativa de 85% a 90%, e armazenadas por períodos de 3, 6 e 9 dias. Avaliaram-se perda de massa, coloração da polpa, sólidos solúveis, acidez titulável, incidência de podridão, compostos fenólicos totais e atividade antioxidante. O uso de aditivos melhora a conservação do kiwi minimamente processado, com destaque para o isoascorbato de sódio e o ácido cítrico. Os frutos de kiwi da cultivar ‘Bruno’ podem ser armazenados por até 6 dias sob refrigeração com o uso de aditivos. Após esse período, a perda de massa é elevada. O uso de UV-C não alterou a qualidade dos kiwis durante o armazenamento, podendo ter seu uso dispensado.

Third degree atrioventricular block is a severe arrhythmia, being the most common indication for artificial cardiac pacing in dogs. Spontaneous reversion to normal sinus rhythm is very rare or exceptional. A 12-year-old Poodle-Toy was referred because of history of abdominal enlargement, anorexia, vomiting and weakness. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed large pyometra. Then, a six-lead electrocardiogram presented third-degree atrioventricular block, while transthoracic Doppler echocardiography showed myxomatous mitral valve disease, presence of mitral, tricuspid and aortic regurgitation, accompanied by mitral and tricuspid diastolic insufficiency. Two days after the ovariohysterectomy, a new electrocardiogram revealed spontaneous reversal to the sinus rhythm, while the diastolic reflux of mitral and tricuspid valves disappeared. The patient showed rapid clinical amelioration and eight months after surgery was still alive, on treatment for heart failure. As far as we know, this is the first canine case of third-degree heart block, secondary to endocardiosis and pyometra, which was spontaneously reverted to sinus rhythm after surgery.

O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar sucos de uva elaborados com diferentes cultivares pelos sistemas de extração a vapor (S1) e sistema enzimático (S2) quanto à qualidade físico-química, sensorial, e adequação aos padrões de identidade e qualidade para suco de uva integral . Os sucos foram elaborados nas safras 2018 e 2019 pelos sistemas de S1) e S2 com os cultivares BRS Rúbea (RUB), BRS Cora (COR), BRS Violeta (VIO), BRS Carmem (CAR), BRS Magna (MAG), Bordô (BOR), Isabel (ISA), Isabel Precoce (IP), Concord (CON), Concord Clone 30 (C30) e SCS 421 Paulina (SCSP). Os tratamentos foram arranjados em esquema bifatorial (cultivares x sistemas de extração). Quando aplica o S1, observa-se uma redução média de 3,12 ° Brix em 2018 e 2,30 ° Brix em 2019 nos sucos em relação à uva. Não S1,apenas os sucos de VIO e MAG em 2018 e VIO e CAR em 2019 atingiram o valor mínimo (14 ° Brix) estabelecido em lei para sólidos solúveis. Os sucos dos cultivares SCSP e CON em 2018 e C30, CON e RUB em 2019, dissipáveis solúveis baixo do preconizado, independente do sistema de extração. Os sucos obtidos pelo S2 caracterizaram-se por valores mais elevados de acidez total, sólidos solúveis, açúcares redutores, antocianinas, impressão global e equilíbrio e mais baixos de luminosidade para a maioria das variedades.

HIGHLIGHTS Fluoxetine increases the metabolic rate and excretion of ammonia in both species. O:N ratio in fish showed higher values in the highest concentrations of fluoxetine. The LC50 - 96 hour values of Palaemon pandaliformis represented greater toxicity. Both species are a good biological model for fluoxetine exposure studies.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to report a clinical case of facial rehabilitation with an acrylic implant-retained nasal prosthesis after partial rhinectomy resulting from the resection of a basal cell carcinoma in the patient, a 53-year-old Caucasian, normosystemic, professional cowboy. After clinical examination and in possession of computed tomography images, surgery was performed for the placement of conventional dental implants in the premaxillary region (left side). After the surgery, a three-month period of waiting was observed to allow osseointegration of the implants. Later, the nasal prosthesis was prepared, and at the end of treatment, this presented satisfactory peripheral adaptation, retention and esthetics. The patient has returned for follow-up every 6 months, regarding analysis of the prosthesis color, peri-implant health, hygiene, and exchange of the magnets and relays when necessary. The authors concluded that this therapy may be well indicated in patients with partial and total nasal defects, provided that there is correct planning and execution of the surgical, clinical and laboratory phases.

Telegraph was installed in the state of Goiás (Brazil) in 1890. The expansion of this technical network in the territory of Goiás was marked by two main spatialities. The first has as focus military strategies, exclusive use and control of the territory; and the second, the more general demands of communication and multiple uses. Until 1913, telegraph wires were deployed independently of other networks. Subsequently, they followed the layout of the tracks, adding services and expanding the communication system of the locations served by the railway network. This study analyzes the origin and the territorial direction of the telegraph in Goiás by the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. The methodological procedures were based on bibliographic research, data and information in newspapers published between 1894 and 1914, in Brazilian official reports of the Empire and the Republic (1860, 1891 and 1899), analysis of decrees information and obtaining data through the collection of historical letters from the National Archives. The results reveal the pioneering role of the telegraph in the communication system between the coast and the hinterland, showing its strategic role in defining borders, in economic-military interests, in regional exchanges, and show how this network was constituted as a key instrument for the construction of a new sense of communication, control and power.

This study set out to assess the nutritional status of peach trees in the commercial peach-growing region of Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul. The sample includes 65 peach orchards of the Maciel, Granada, Esmeralda, and Sensação cultivars in the municipalities of Pelotas, Canguçu, and Morro Redondo during the 2018 agricultural cycle. After drying and grinding the leaf samples for an analysis of their nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), boron (B), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), and zinc (Zn) content, the results were presented in frequency distributions divided into classes based on the nutrient requirements indicated for the crop in the region, in addition to the correlations between the nutrients. Greater deficiencies were observed in nitrogen, copper, iron, and zinc content. However, potassium content was found in the “above normal” class for most of the samples, and there were correlations between P/Ca, P/Cu, Ca/P, Ca/Mg, and Ca/B. An insufficient use of the tools to assess the nutritional status of the orchards was observed, especially the leaf diagnosis, which led to the inappropriate use of fertilizers and the consequent nutrient imbalance in the plants.

Peach tree thinning, which aims at reducing plant load so as to ensure productivity and fruit quality, has been manually carried out within a short period of time in the stage of fruit development. Due to the need and shortage of qualified man power, chemical thinning is one of the alternatives that can solve these difficulties found in manual thinning. This study aimed at evaluating the effect of different products which have been applied – either alone or in combination – to fruit thinning of peach tree cultivars ‘Sensação’ and ‘Maciel’ in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul (RS) state, Brazil. The experiment was conducted in the 2015/2016 crop in a commercial peach orchard located in Morro Redondo, RS, Brazil. The following seven treatments were carried out 40 days after full bloom (DAFB): plants with no thinning, manual thinning, metamitron, benzyladenine, benzyladenine + metamitron, ethephon, ethephon + metamitron. Fruit abscission, effective fructification, number of fruits and production per plant, mean mass and fruit classification into caliber classes, epidermis color, pulp firmness and soluble solids were evaluated. Production and number of fruits per plant decreased excessively, whereas fruits placed in categories of higher caliber increased when ethephon was either used alone or in combination with metamitron. When both metamitron and benzyladenine were applied, either alone or in combination, they led to fruit abscission and resulted in mean fruit size and weight, at harvest time, similar to those found in manual thinning. Application of chemical products – either alone or in combination – may be an alternative of peach tree thinning in orchard management.

O presente artigo analisa se o instituto da recuperação judicial, tal como disciplinado pela legislação nacional, é mecanismo eficiente de superação da crise econômico-financeira que pode acometer as atividades dos Microempresários e Empresários de Pequeno Porte no Brasil. A abordagem jurimétrica de todos os processos de recuperação judicial distribuídos no Estado de São Paulo entre 2010 e 2018 é realizada sob uma perspectiva descritiva. Pela mensuração das diversas variáveis durante as etapas do procedimento de recuperação judicial, pemite-se identificar se o instituto é uma alternativa viável aos pequenos empresários e quais suas principais dificuldades. A análise permite verificar que os custos e a exigência de apresentação de documentação contábil revelam-se como barreiras de entrada aos pequenos empresários. Por seu turno, diante da média dos planos de recuperação judicial aprovados e da quantidade de recuperandas que optaram pelo procedimento especial, a redução das despesas pretendida pelo procedimento especial não é relevante a ponto de compensar as diversas limitações impostas ao plano de recuperação a ser proposto.

A dimensão espacial dos riscos associados à Covid-19 é a motivação para se explorarem as estruturas socio-territoriais que influenciam a vulnerabilidade face ao contágio e à mortalidade, respondendo a uma lacuna de investigação identificada pela literatura. Assim, esta pesquisa visa identificar o mosaico territorial de riscos face ao contágio e à mortalidade por Covid-19, retratando os diferentes perfis de vulnerabilidade que emergem no território de Portugal Continental. A variabilidade, à escala local, dos níveis de vulnerabilidade sustenta a opção por uma análise à escala do concelho. Pretende-se contribuir ainda para informar as políticas dirigidas à prevenção e mitigação dos riscos de contágio e morte, atendendo à espacialidade das situações identificadas como potenciadoras destes riscos. Assim, após a análise dos perfis territoriais de risco ao contágio e à mortalidade, é elaborado um cenário que identifica três perfis territoriais de vulnerabilidades que carecem de políticas diferenciadas face aos seus riscos.

Abstract In Brazil, the cultivation of pecan trees has substantially increased in the last years, thus requiring the development of scientific research and technologies to improve it. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the tipping off effect associated with the use of biofertilizer in the growth of newly implanted plants in their final site. The treatments consisted of : control; application of “supermagro” biofertilizer; tipping off of plants, and tipping off associated with the use of biofertilizer. The variables evaluated were: plant height; plant growth rate; stem thickness; number of leaves, and number of leaves/stem height ratio. In addition, leaf nutrient content analysis was performed. Tipping off and the use of biofertilizer provide greater growth of the plant height and cultivar scion diameter after sprouting. Thus, tipping off associated with biofertilizer can be used in the early phase of the pecan orchard implantation to provide the best plant development.

O raleio químico de frutos pode ser uma prática alternativa ao raleio manual. O raleio manual necessita ser executado num curto período da frutificação, mas a falta de mão de obra e a onerosidade dos custos da operação cada vez mais dificultam o seu emprego no momento adequado e na intensidade ideal. O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de diferentes concentrações do metamitron como raleante químico nos pessegueiros ‘PS 10711’. O experimento foi realizado durante duas safras num pomar do município de Eldorado do Sul, região da Depressão Central do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Os tratamentos consistiram na aplicação de metamitron nas concentrações de 100 mg L-1, 200 mg L-1, 300 mg L-1 e 400 mg L-1, raleio manual e plantas sem raleio. O raleio químico e manual dos frutos foram realizados aos 40 dias após a plena floração dos pessegueiros. Avaliou-se a abscisão de frutos, frutificação efetiva, número de frutos, produção por planta e a qualidade dos frutos. O metamitron possui efeito raleante em pêssegos da cultivar PS 10711. As concentrações de 100 e 200 mg L-1 de metamitron promove abscisão de frutos inferior ao raleio manual. O efeito raleante do metamitron altera a produção por planta, mas não interfere na qualidade dos frutos.

Resumo O maior volume de suco de uva produzido no Brasil é da cultivar Isabel. No entanto, é necessário que se façam cortes com outras cultivares para melhorar a qualidade do suco, o que eleva a demanda por outras cultivares, especialmente Bordô. Sendo assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a influência das cultivares BRS Rúbea, BRS Cora, BRS Violeta, BRS Carmem, BRS Magna e Bordô em cortes com Isabel quanto às características físico-químicas, colorimétricas e sensoriais de sucos produzidos na Região do Vale do Rio do Peixe - SC. Os sucos foram elaborados na Epagri - Estação Experimental de Videira - SC, sendo: (ISA) 100% Isabel; (ISA+RUB) 70% Isabel + 30% Rúbea: (ISA+COR) 70% Isabel + 30% Cora; (ISA+VIO) 70% Isabel + 30% Violeta; (ISA+CAR) 70% Isabel + 30% Carmem; (ISA+MAG) 70% Isabel + 30% Magna; (ISA+BOR) 70% Isabel + 30% Bordô, e avaliados quanto à composição físico-química, colorimétrica e perfil sensorial. A maior acidez titulável foi verificada em ISA+MAG, seguida de ISA+BOR. Os sucos ISA+VIO obtiveram a maior média para o teor de sólidos solúveis, não diferindo apenas de ISA+CAR, que também apresentou a menor acidez dentre os tratamentos. Os sucos ISA+VIO e ISA+CAR apresentaram maior teor de sólidos solúveis em relação ao suco de Isabel 100%. A menor luminosidade foi observada nos sucos do ISA+VIO, seguida por ISA+CAR. Quanto aos atributos sensoriais foram observadas diferenças significativas apenas para cor e acidez. Os sucos ISA+VIO, ISA+CAR e ISA+BOR receberam as maiores notas para o atributo cor. Todas as cultivares testadas influenciaram as características colorimétricas do suco, mostrando-se alternativas para a melhoria da cor de sucos de Isabel. Sensorialmente, apenas a cor e a acidez foram influenciadas pelos diferentes cortes.

Técnicas que melhorem a eficiência do processo e reduzam o custo de operação são importantes ferramentas na redução dos custos. Dois dispositivos mecânicos foram utilizados para testar a eficiência no raleio de frutos e flores em pessegueiros e a influencia nas características produtivas e qualitativas dos frutos. O estudo foi realizado na cultivar Maciel em pomar comercial no município de Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Os tratamentos foram: raleio mecânico de flores com o equipamento Carpa Electro® e “derriçadeira”, raleio mecânico de frutos com o equipamento “derriçadeira” e raleio manual de frutos. O raleio mecânico associado ao repasse manual em pessegueiros pode ser uma alternativa viável ao raleio manual, pois reduz o tempo de execução desta prática. Os dois equipamentos podem ser utilizados para o raleio mecânico, pois não alteraram a produção por planta, o número de frutos por planta, a massa dos frutos, diâmetro dos frutos, as características físico-químicas e os compostos bioativos dos frutos.

Nitrogen, which is considered the most important nutrient for peach trees, may interfere in both quantitative production characteristics and quality of fruits. This study aimed at evaluating the effect of the combination of doses of N fertilization and different periods of cold storage on physico-chemical and phytochemical characteristics of peaches in post-harvest. The experiment had a randomized complete block design in a 4x3 factorial scheme, i. e., four doses of fertilization (0, 60, 120 and 180 Kg N ha-1) and three periods of storage (on the harvest day, on both the 15th and the 30th storage days at 1±1ºC, each followed by a day of simulated commercialization at 20±1ºC). The following aspects were evaluated in fruits yielded by peach trees of the genotype Cascata 1067: fruit color, soluble solid content, titratable acidity, pulp firmness, mass loss, total phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity. Different periods of cold storage and doses of N fertilization were found to affect epidermis luminosity, pulp firmness and titratable acidity of fruits. Peaches may be stored at low temperatures for 15+1 days. After that, loss of fruit firmness increases. N fertilization affects neither the soluble solid content nor the epidermis color of peaches, but both parameters are influenced by storage. Values of phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity decrease when there is N increment in the soil and when longer storage is carried out. Results suggest that peach composition may be affected by cultural practices, such as N fertilization, in harvest and after storage.

No Brasil, a cultura do morangueiro possui grande importância, necessitando de novas alternativas orgânicas para o controle de fitopatógenos no solo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a influência de tratamentos alternativos para o controle fitossanitário via solo, na produção e qualidade de pós-colheita de morangos cv. Camarosa. O experimento foi realizado em uma área com nove parcelas de 1,2 m2, por tratamento, distribuídos aleatoriamente, onde o solo foi tratado por 45 dias antes do plantio das mudas, com os tratamentos de 1,5 Kg de torta de mamona com lona preta, biofumigação com 1,5 Kg de torta de mamona, biofumigação com 0,75 Kg de torta de mamona, incorporação de 0,75 Kg de torta de mamona, incorporação de 1,5 Kg de torta de mamona, alqueive e solarização. Para as análises foram utilizados 20 pseudofrutos, com três repetições por tratamento, avaliando-se massa fresca, sólidos solúveis, acidez titulável, pH e ácido ascórbico. Para a acidez, a lona+1,5 Kg e biofumigação+1,5 Kg demonstraram que a torta de mamona elevou a acidez dos frutos. Os sólidos dos morangos na solarização foi superior aos demais, seguido pelos lona+1,5 Kg e incorporação de 0,75 Kg. O pH foi menor nos frutos do incorporação de 0,75 Kg, seguido pelo tratamento com biofumigação. Solarização apresentou a menor massa fresca e ácido ascórbico. O presente estudo demonstrou que a torta de mamona manteve a qualidade dos morangos.

The present study aimed to investigate the degradation of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) in the presence of cationic dye crystal violet irradiated under visible light. The preparation of the samples was done in the form of films obtained by casting. Degradation tests were carried out by 120 hours at room temperature. The degradation kinetics of the dye and polymer were accompanied by UV-Vis spectrophotometry and viscosimetry technique. The UV-Vis Spectra showed 81.2% degradation of the dye. In addition, it was observed a broadening of the absorption band of the polymer and the reduction of its viscosity, which features degradation. In this way, it is possible to affirm that the crystal violet dye, at the studied concentration, contributed to the degradation process of PEO.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to verify the existence of bioaccumulation in mussels of the species Perna perna, by determining the concentration of metal trace elements, in Urubuqueçaba Island, Santos Bay, Santos, SP, Brazil. Mussels were collected in natural banks and rocky shores, and sampling took place from April 2010 to June 2011. The concentration of the trace metal elements - aluminum, cadmium, cromium, copper, iron, manganese, nickel, lead, and zinc - was determined according to mussel sex, length, and seasonality classes, in a flame atomic absorption spectrometer. Statistical analyses were applied to the results with the use of the software PAST, with parametric and nonparametric approaches, at 5% probability. In the summer, mussels show the highest concentrations of cadmium, copper, lead, and zinc. Females of P. perna concentrate more copper; for the other elements, there are no significant differences between sexes. The length classes with the highest concentrations are 3.5-5.5 cm for Al and Fe, and 6.5-8.5 cm for Cr.

O trabalho pretende compartilhar a vivência do desenvolvimento de um sistema com a finalidade de realizar as inscrições de um evento de ensino - Semana Acadêmica Integrada no IFRS – Campus Osório, e gerar as listas de presença para cada atividade da programação. Tal foi realizado por quatro estudantes do curso superior - Tecnologia em Análise e Desenvolvimento de Sistemas e baseado no Framework Laravel. O objetivo do relato de caso, alicerçado à experiência do evento, é de refletir sobre a aprendizagem de como se desenvolveu a construção e o quão complexa é a relação de quem solicita a criação de um sistema, o usuário, e o desenvolvedor, pois existem imprevistos, erros e prazos a serem cumpridos, além da escolha da ferramenta para a criação. A base teórica é a compreensão construtivista segundo a Teoria de Piaget do processo de aprendizagem desenvolvido por esses estudantes para a construção do sistema. Aponta-se um resultado do trabalho, além do sistema desenvolvido, as reflexões da comissão organizadora do quanto antes é preciso organizar as etapas de desenvolvimento de um sistema para que se minimizem os erros. A vivência dos estudantes formandos sobre como seria uma relação com o cliente também é apresentada.

O porta-enxerto influencia o desempenho agronômico de plantas frutíferas. Porém, em pessegueiro, especialmente para as cultivares produzidas no Brasil, essa relação não está bem elucidada. Por isso, propôs-se avaliar o desempenho de oito porta-enxertos ‘Aldrighi’, ‘Capdeboscq’, ‘Flordaguard’, ‘Nemaguard’, ‘Okinawa’, ‘Umezeiro’, ‘Tsukuba’ e ‘Seleção Viamão’ sob pessegueiros da cultivar ‘Maciel’, plantados em 2006, e avaliados nas safras 2014/2015 e 2015/2016. As variáveis avaliadas a campo foram fenologia da floração, diâmetro de tronco, volume de copa, número de frutos e produtividade. Nos frutos avaliou-se a massa, o diâmetro, a coloração, a firmeza de polpa, a concentração de sólidos solúveis totais, a acidez titulável, a concentração de compostos fenóis totais, de carotenóides totais e a atividade antioxidante. Os porta-enxertos ‘Aldrighi’ e ‘Nemaguard’ anteciparam o início da floração em 2014 e no ano de 2015 os porta-enxertos induziram desuniformidade na floração dos pessegueiros. O porta-enxerto ‘Umezeiro’ induz menor vigor, diâmetro de tronco e volume de copa. Os porta-enxertos ‘Aldrighi’, ‘Capdeboscq’, ‘Flordaguard’, ‘Nemaguard’ e ‘Tsukuba’ induziram bons índices produtivos. A coloração dos frutos, firmeza de polpa e a concentração de sólidos solúveis, fenóis totais, atividade antioxidante e carotenóides totais foram influenciados pelo porta-enxerto e pela safra.
