Background: Whether there are sex differences in hemodynamic profiles among people with elevated blood pressure is not well understood and could guide personalization of treatment. Methods and results: We described the clinical and hemodynamic characteristics of adults with elevated blood pressure in China using impedance cardiography. We included 45,082 individuals with elevated blood pressure (defined as systolic blood pressure of ≥130 mmHg or a diastolic blood pressure of ≥80 mmHg), of which 35.2% were women. Overall, women had a higher mean systolic blood pressure than men (139.0 [±15.7] mmHg vs 136.8 [±13.8] mmHg, P<0.001), but a lower mean diastolic blood pressure (82.6 [±9.0] mmHg vs 85.6 [±8.9] mmHg, P<0.001). After adjusting for age, region, and body mass index, women <50 years old had lower systemic vascular resistance index (beta-coefficient [β] -31.7; 95% CI: -51.2, -12.2) and higher cardiac index (β 0.07; 95% CI: 0.04, 0.09) than men of their same age group, whereas among those ≥50 years old women had higher systemic vascular resistance index (β 120.4; 95% CI: 102.4, 138.5) but lower cardiac index (β -0.15; 95% CI: -0.16, -0.13). Results were consistent with a propensity score matching sensitivity analysis, although the magnitude of the SVRI difference was lower and non-significant. However, there was substantial overlap between women and men in the distribution plots of these variables, with overlapping areas ranging from 78% to 88%. Importance: The elimination of racial and ethnic differences in health status and health care access is a US goal, but it is unclear whether the country has made progress over the last 2 decades.Objective: To determine 20-year trends in the racial and ethnic differences in self-reported measures of health status and health care access and affordability among adults in the US.Design, Setting, and Participants: Serial cross-sectional study of National Health Interview Survey data, 1999-2018, that included 596 355 adults.Exposures: Self-reported race, ethnicity, and income level.Main Outcomes and Measures: Rates and racial and ethnic differences in self-reported health status and health care access and affordability.Results: The study included 596 355 adults (mean [SE] age, 46.2 [0.07] years, 51.8% [SE, 0.10] women), of whom 4.7% were Asian, 11.8% were Black, 13.8% were Latino/Hispanic, and 69.7% were White. The estimated percentages of people with low income were 28.2%, 46.1%, 51.5%, and 23.9% among Asian, Black, Latino/Hispanic, and White individuals, respectively. Black individuals with low income had the highest estimated prevalence of poor or fair health status (29.1% [95% CI, 26.5%-31.7%] in 1999 and 24.9% [95% CI, 21.8%-28.3%] in 2018), while White individuals with middle and high income had the lowest (6.4% [95% CI, 5.9%-6.8%] in 1999 and 6.3% [95% CI, 5.8%-6.7%] in 2018). Black individuals had a significantly higher estimated prevalence of poor or fair health status than White individuals in 1999, regardless of income strata (P < .001 for the overall and low-income groups; P = .03 for middle and high-income group). From 1999 to 2018, racial and ethnic gaps in poor or fair health status did not change significantly, with or without income stratification, except for a significant decrease in the difference between White and Black individuals with low income (-6.7 percentage points [95% CI, -11.3 to -2.0]; P = .005); the difference in 2018 was no longer statistically significant (P = .13). Black and White individuals had the highest levels of self-reported functional limitations, which increased significantly among all groups over time. There were significant reductions in the racial and ethnic differences in some self-reported measures of health care access, but not affordability, with and without income stratification.Conclusions and Relevance: In a serial cross-sectional survey study of US adults from 1999 to 2018, racial and ethnic differences in self-reported health status, access, and affordability improved in some subgroups, but largely persisted. Background: Digital health technology is becoming central to health care. A better understanding of the trends and predictors of its use could reflect how people engage with the health care system and manage their health care needs.Methods: Using data from the National Health Interview Survey for years 2011 to 2018, we assessed the use of digital health technology among individuals aged ≥18 years in the United States across 2 domains: 1) search for health information online and 2) interaction with health care providers (eg, fill a prescription, schedule a medical appointment, or communicate with health care providers).Results: Our study included 253,829 individuals; representing nearly 237 million adults in the United States annually; mean age 49.6 years (SD 18.4); 51.8% women; and 65.9% non-Hispanic white individuals. Overall, 49.2% of individuals reported searching for health information online and 18.5% reported at least 1 technology-based interaction with the health care system. Between 2011 and 2018, the proportion who searched for health information online increased from 46.5% to 55.3% (P < .001), whereas the proportion who used technology to interact with the health care system increased from 12.5% to 27.4% (P < .001). Although technology-based interaction with the health care system increased across most subgroups, there were significant disparities in the extent of increase across clinical and sociodemographic subgroups.Conclusions: The use of digital health technologies increased between 2011 and 2018, however, the uptake of these technologies has been unequal across subgroups. Future innovations and strategies should focus on expanding the reach of digital heath technology across all subgroups of society to ensure that its expansion does not exacerbate the existing health inequalities. BACKGROUND Age is known to be associated with the prevalence and pathophysiology of hypertension. However, there is little information on whether age stands as a good proxy for the specific hemodynamic profile of an individual with elevated blood pressure (BP), which could be important in the selection of therapy. DESIGN This is a cross‐sectional study. SETTING People who underwent a noninvasive, hemodynamic assessment using impedance cardiography at 51 sites of iKang Health Checkup Centers throughout China between January 2012 and October 2018. PARTICIPANTS We included 116,851 individuals, aged 20 to 80 years. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES Relationship between age and hemodynamic parameters (cardiac index, systemic vascular resistance index [SVRI]), among individuals with elevated BP (systolic BP ≥130 mm Hg or diastolic BP ≥80 mm Hg). RESULTS: Final study population included 45,082 individuals with elevated BP: 29,194 men and 15,888 women with a mean (±SD) age of 48 (±13) and 54 (±12) years, respectively. Cardiac index was negatively associated with age with an adjusted, per decade decrease of 0.17 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.17‐0.18) L/min/m2 in men and 0.24 (95% CI = 0.23‐0.25) L/min/m2 in women. SVRI was positively associated with age with an adjusted, per‐decade increase of 174.2 (95% CI = 168.8‐179.7) dynes·s·cm−5·m2 in men and 214.1 (95% CI = 204.3‐223.8) dynes·s·cm−5·m2 in women. However, there was substantial overlap in the distribution of these parameters across different age groups in both sexes. CONCLUSIONS: In this large study, we observed that cardiac index decreased and SVRI increased with age among individuals with elevated BP. Even though there was a general trend with age, we observed heterogeneity within age strata, suggesting that age alone is inadequate to indicate the hemodynamic profile for an individual. Background: Blood pressure is a physiologic measure that reflects cardiac output and systemic vascular resistance. Classification by these components could be useful in characterizing subtypes of hypertension, which may have a role in selecting treatment strategies. However, hemodynamic phenotypes of a large, stable, outpatient population with hypertension remain unknown.Methods: We included 34,238 people with systolic blood pressure of ≥130 mm Hg, who underwent impedance cardiography at 51 sites of iKang Health Checkup Centers throughout China between 2012 and 2018. Hemodynamic parameters measured included stroke volume, stroke volume index, heart rate, cardiac output, cardiac index, systemic vascular resistance, and systemic vascular resistance index. We characterized these by systolic blood pressure categories and assessed patient characteristics associated with the ratio of cardiac index to systemic vascular resistance index.Results: Among the study cohort (n = 33,414; mean age 52 ± 13 years; 36.6% female), 49%, 40%, and 11% had systolic blood pressure130-139, 140-159, and ≥160 mm Hg, respectively. Among patients with systolic blood pressure 140-159 mm Hg, 9353 (70%) had high systemic vascular resistance index but normal/low cardiac index, 1949 (15%) had high cardiac index but low/normal systemic vascular resistance index, and 2053 (15%) had low/normal cardiac index and systemic vascular resistance index. Using multivariable analysis, we found that cardiac index to systemic vascular resistance index ratio was negatively associated with age and body mass index (all P <0.05; R-square 0.16, 0.12, and 0.09 for systolic blood pressure 130-139, 140-159 and ≥160 mm Hg, respectively).Conclusions: Different hemodynamic blood pressure phenotypes were identified across all hypertensive blood pressure categories. Background: Infection fatality rate and infection hospitalization rate, defined as the proportion of deaths and hospitalizations, respectively, of the total infected individuals, can estimate the actual toll of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on a community, as the denominator is ideally based on a representative sample of a population, which captures the full spectrum of illness, including asymptomatic and untested individuals.Objective: To determine the COVID-19 infection hospitalization rate and infection fatality rate among the non-congregate population in Connecticut between March 1 and June 1, 2020.Methods: The infection hospitalization rate and infection fatality rate were calculated for adults residing in non-congregate settings in Connecticut prior to June 2020. Individuals with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) antibodies were estimated using the seroprevalence estimates from the recently conducted Post-Infection Prevalence study. Information on total hospitalizations and deaths was obtained from the Connecticut Hospital Association and the Connecticut Department of Public Health, respectively.Results: Prior to June 1, 2020, nearly 113,515 (90% confidence interval [CI] 56,758-170,273) individuals were estimated to have SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, and there were 7792 hospitalizations and 1079 deaths among the non-congregate population. The overall COVID-19 infection hospitalization rate and infection fatality rate were estimated to be 6.86% (90% CI, 4.58%-13.72%) and 0.95% (90% CI, 0.63%-1.90%), respectively, and there was variation in these rate estimates across subgroups; older people, men, non-Hispanic Black people, and those belonging to 2 of the counties had a higher burden of adverse outcomes, although the differences between most subgroups were not statistically significant.Conclusions: Using representative seroprevalence estimates, the overall COVID-19 infection hospitalization rate and infection fatality rate were estimated to be 6.86% and 0.95%, respectively, among community residents in Connecticut. Background: A seroprevalence study can estimate the percentage of people with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) antibodies in the general population; however, most existing reports have used a convenience sample, which may bias their estimates.Methods: We sought a representative sample of Connecticut residents, ages ≥18 years and residing in noncongregate settings, who completed a survey between June 4 and June 23, 2020, and underwent serology testing for SARS-CoV-2-specific immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies between June 10 and July 29, 2020. We also oversampled non-Hispanic black and Hispanic subpopulations. We estimated the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2-specific IgG antibodies and the prevalence of symptomatic illness and self-reported adherence to risk-mitigation behaviors among this population.Results: Of the 567 respondents (mean age 50 [± 17] years; 53% women; 75% non-Hispanic white individuals) included at the state level, 23 respondents tested positive for SARS-CoV-2-specific antibodies, resulting in weighted seroprevalence of 4.0 (90% confidence interval [CI] 2.0-6.0). The weighted seroprevalence for the oversampled non-Hispanic black and Hispanic populations was 6.4% (90% CI 0.9-11.9) and 19.9% (90% CI 13.2-26.6), respectively. The majority of respondents at the state level reported following risk-mitigation behaviors: 73% avoided public places, 75% avoided gatherings of families or friends, and 97% wore a facemask, at least part of the time.Conclusions: These estimates indicate that the vast majority of people in Connecticut lack antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, and there is variation by race and ethnicity. Introduction: Optimal utilization of preventive services across gender is critical to counter the growing cardiovascular disease (CVD) burden. It is well known that women with established CVD report greater use of health care services than men, however, whether these differences extend for preventive services is unknown. As such, we aimed to study the gender disparities in CVD preventive services utilization in a contemporary non-elderly US adult population. Methods: In a nationally representative sample of adults aged 18-64 years, participating in the National Health Interview Survey (2012-2016), we compared the utilization of CVD preventive services among men and women in the last 12 months, using 6 variables: 1) blood pressure check, 2) cholesterol check, 3) blood sugar check, 4) diet advice, 5) advice against smoking, and 6) preventive aspirin use. Results: A total of 131,441 participants, corresponding to 35 million US adults annually (50.9% women), were included. Overall, 80% reported blood pressure, 58% cholesterol, and 38% blood sugar check in the last 12 months. Moreover, only 26% received advice on diet and 9% on smoking cessation. Utilization of aspirin was noted in 12% of the non-elderly population. As compared to women, men had lower odds of reporting having a blood pressure check [OR 0.53, 95% CI (0.50, 0.56)], cholesterol check [OR 0.76, 95% CI (0.74, 0.78)], blood sugar check [OR 0.77, 95% CI (0.74, 0.80)], diet advice [OR 0.83, 95% CI (0.80, 0.86)], and advice against smoking [OR 0.71, 95% CI (0.67, 0.75)] in the preceding 12 months. Conversely, preventive aspirin use was significantly higher in men vs. women [OR 1.40, 95% CI (1.34, 1.45)]. Conclusions: Utilization of CVD preventive services among non-elderly adults in US is suboptimal. A lower utilization of preventive CVD care services was seen among non-elderly men compared with women. Introduction: Despite evidence supporting the benefits of marriage on cardiovascular health, the impact of marital/partner status on the long-term readmission of young acute myocardial infarction (AMI) survivors is less clear. We examined the association between marital/partner status and 1-year all-cause readmission and explored sex differences among young AMI survivors. Methods: Data were from the VIRGO study (Variation in Recovery: Role of Gender on Outcomes of Young AMI Patients), which enrolled young adults aged 18–55 years with AMI (2008–2012). The primary end point was all-cause readmission within 1 year of hospital discharge, obtained from medical records and patient interviews and adjudicated by a physician panel. We performed Cox proportional hazards models with sequential adjustment for demographic, socioeconomic, clinical, and psychosocial factors. Sex-marital/partner status interaction was also tested. Results: Of the 2,979 adults with AMI (2002 women [67.2%]; mean age 48 [interquartile range, 44–52] years), unpartnered individuals were more likely to experience all-cause readmissions compared with married/partnered individuals within the first year after hospital discharge (34.6% versus 27.2%, hazard ratio [HR] = 1.31; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.15–1.49). The association attenuated but remained significant after adjustment for demographic and socioeconomic factors (adjusted HR, 1.16; 95% CI, 1.01–1.34), and it was not significant after further adjusting for clinical factors and psychosocial factors (adjusted HR, 1.10; 95%CI, 0.94–1.28). A sex-marital/partner status interaction was not significant (p = 0.69). Sensitivity analysis using data with multiple imputation and restricting outcomes to cardiac readmission yielded comparable results. Conclusions: In a cohort of young adults aged 18–55 years, unpartnered status was associated with 1.3-fold increased risk of all-cause readmission within 1 year of AMI discharge. Further adjustment for demographic, socioeconomic, clinical, and psychosocial factors attenuated the association, suggesting that these factors may explain disparities in readmission between married/partnered versus unpartnered young adults. Background: The current acute kidney injury (AKI) risk prediction model for patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) from the American College of Cardiology (ACC) National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR) employed regression techniques. This study aimed to evaluate whether models using machine learning techniques could significantly improve AKI risk prediction after PCI.Methods and Findings: We used the same cohort and candidate variables used to develop the current NCDR CathPCI Registry AKI model, including 947,091 patients who underwent PCI procedures between June 1, 2009, and June 30, 2011. The mean age of these patients was 64.8 years, and 32.8% were women, with a total of 69,826 (7.4%) AKI events. We replicated the current AKI model as the baseline model and compared it with a series of new models. Temporal validation was performed using data from 970,869 patients undergoing PCIs between July 1, 2016, and March 31, 2017, with a mean age of 65.7 years; 31.9% were women, and 72,954 (7.5%) had AKI events. Each model was derived by implementing one of two strategies for preprocessing candidate variables (preselecting and transforming candidate variables or using all candidate variables in their original forms), one of three variable-selection methods (stepwise backward selection, lasso regularization, or permutation-based selection), and one of two methods to model the relationship between variables and outcome (logistic regression or gradient descent boosting). The cohort was divided into different training (70%) and test (30%) sets using 100 different random splits, and the performance of the models was evaluated internally in the test sets. The best model, according to the internal evaluation, was derived by using all available candidate variables in their original form, permutation-based variable selection, and gradient descent boosting. Compared with the baseline model that uses 11 variables, the best model used 13 variables and achieved a significantly better area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 0.752 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.749-0.754) versus 0.711 (95% CI 0.708-0.714), a significantly better Brier score of 0.0617 (95% CI 0.0615-0.0618) versus 0.0636 (95% CI 0.0634-0.0638), and a better calibration slope of observed versus predicted rate of 1.008 (95% CI 0.988-1.028) versus 1.036 (95% CI 1.015-1.056). The best model also had a significantly wider predictive range (25.3% versus 21.6%, p < 0.001) and was more accurate in stratifying AKI risk for patients. Evaluated on a more contemporary CathPCI cohort (July 1, 2015-March 31, 2017), the best model consistently achieved significantly better performance than the baseline model in AUC (0.785 versus 0.753), Brier score (0.0610 versus 0.0627), calibration slope (1.003 versus 1.062), and predictive range (29.4% versus 26.2%). The current study does not address implementation for risk calculation at the point of care, and potential challenges include the availability and accessibility of the predictors.Conclusions: Machine learning techniques and data-driven approaches resulted in improved prediction of AKI risk after PCI. Younger women experience worse health status than men after their index episode of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). However, whether women have a higher risk for cardiovascular and noncardiovascular hospitalizations in the year after discharge is unknown. The aim of this study was to determine sex differences in causes and timing of 1-year outcomes after AMI in people aged 18 to 55 years. Data from the VIRGO (Variation in Recovery: Role of Gender on Outcomes of Young AMI Patients) study, which enrolled young patients with AMI across 103 U.S. hospitals, were used. Sex differences in all-cause and cause-specific hospitalizations were compared by calculating incidence rates ([IRs] per 1,000 person-years) and IR ratios with 95% CIs. We then performed sequential modeling to evaluate the sex difference by calculating subdistribution HRs (SHRs) accounting for deaths. Among 2,979 patients, at least 1 hospitalization occurred among 905 patients (30.4%) in the year after discharge. The leading causes of hospitalization were coronary related (IR: 171.8 [95% CI: 153.6-192.2] among women vs 117.8 [95% CI: 97.3-142.6] among men), followed by noncardiac hospitalization (IR: 145.8 [95% CI: 129.2-164.5] among women vs 69.6 [95% CI: 54.5-88.9] among men). Furthermore, a sex difference was present for coronary-related hospitalizations (SHR: 1.33; 95% CI: 1.04-1.70; P = 0.02) and noncardiac hospitalizations (SHR: 1.51; 95% CI: 1.13-2.07; P = 0.01). Young women with AMI experience more adverse outcomes than men in the year after discharge. Background: Disparities in multimorbidity prevalence indicate health inequalities, as the risk of morbidity does not intrinsically differ by race/ethnicity. This study aimed to determine if multimorbidity differences by race/ethnicity are decreasing over time.Methods: Serial cross-sectional analysis of the National Health Interview Survey, 1999-2018. Included individuals were ≥18 years old and categorized by self-reported race, ethnicity, age, and income. The main outcomes were temporal trends in multimorbidity prevalence based on the self-reported presence of ≥2 of 9 common chronic conditions.Findings: The study sample included 596,355 individuals (4.7% Asian, 11.8% Black, 13.8% Latino/Hispanic, and 69.7% White). In 1999, the estimated prevalence of multimorbidity was 5.9% among Asian, 17.4% among Black, 10.7% among Latino/Hispanic, and 13.5% among White individuals. Prevalence increased for all racial/ethnic groups during the study period (P ≤ .001 for each), with no significant change in the differences between them. In 2018, compared with White individuals, multimorbidity was more prevalent among Black individuals (+2.5 percentage points) and less prevalent among Asian and Latino/Hispanic individuals (-6.6 and -2.1 percentage points, respectively). Among those aged ≥30 years, Black individuals had multimorbidity prevalence equivalent to that of Latino/Hispanic and White individuals aged 5 years older, and Asian individuals aged 10 years older.Conclusions: From 1999 to 2018, a period of increasing multimorbidity prevalence for all the groups studied, there was no significant progress in eliminating disparities between Black individuals and White individuals. Disparities in cardiovascular outcomes are persistent in our society. The objective was to track the trends before and after the passage of the Affordable Care Act in socioeconomic status (SES) disparities in utilization of cardiovascular disease (CVD) preventive services among nonelderly adults aged 18–64 years. This study used the National Health Interview Survey (2011–2017) to compare utilization of blood pressure, cholesterol, glycemic screening, and diet and smoking cessation advice over time between groups stratified by SES and race using difference-in-difference analysis. This study also measured the differences over time in specific vulnerable population subgroups (Hispanic, low-income and uninsured vs. White, middle–high-income, and insured). The study population included 176,961 surveyed individuals (mean age 40 [±13] years; 51% female; 67.7% non-Hispanic White) between 2011 and 2017, translating to 194.8 million nonelderly US adults per year. Most individuals were from high-income SES (40.0%), followed by middle-income (28.1%), low-income (13.6%), and lowest income SES (18.3%). The proportion of CVD preventive services increased over all SES categories through the study period. The biggest relative changes were seen among low-income individuals. The difference in blood pressure checks, cholesterol checks, and smoking cessation advise between high- and lowest income groups showed a statistically significant decrease at 5.2%, 4.8%, and 11.2%, respectively, between 2011 and 2017. The findings demonstrate a trend in reduction of CVD preventive care disparities between SES groups. Introduction: Emerging evidence suggest a substantial proportion of those with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) experience financial hardship from cumulative out-of-pocket healthcare expenses. In this study, we aim to examine the relationship between financial hardship and health-related quality of life (HRQOL), self-perception of health, psychological distress, and depression from a nationally representative adult population with established ASCVD. Methods: Data on patients with ASCVD was obtained from the 2006 to 2015 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey to assess annual inflation-adjusted out-of-pocket expenses, inclusive of insurance premiums, for all patients with ASCVD. High financial burden (HFB) and catastrophic healthcare expenditure (CHE) were defined as a ratio of annual family out-of-pocket health care expenditures to family income 20-40% and > 40%, respectively. HRQOL was assessed from the Short-Form 12 Health Survey Version 2. Non-psychological distress, measured by the Kessler Index, whereas the risk of depression was assessed via the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-2). Results: Of total 20,131 individuals with established ASCVD, 7.8% and 7.2% experienced HFB and CHE, respectively, representing annualized 3.3 million individuals. In multivariate analysis, ASCVD patients among families suffering from CHE reported significantly lower HRQOL [OR 1.30, 95% CI 1.10, 1.54], higher odds for psychological distress [OR 1.26, 95% CI 1.02, 1.57], worse self-perception of health [OR 1.26, 95% CI 1.08, 1.46], and higher likelihood of risk or clinical depression [OR 1.18, 95% CI 1.01, 1.38]. Conclusions: Financial burden among patients with ASCVD was significantly associated with worse quality of life, self-perception of health and mental health outcomes. Interventions are needed to ensure optimal screening, prevention and detection for at risk ASCVD patients in general, especially those with financial hardships. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, accounts for at least one-third of deaths in women worldwide. Although there is an established relationship between positive patient experiences, health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and improved health outcomes, little is known about the gender differences in patient-reported outcomes among ASCVD patients. We therefore compare gender-differences in patient-centered outcomes among individuals with ASCVD. Methods: Data from the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) 2006-2015, a nationally representative U.S. sample, was used to carry out this study. Adults ≥18 years with a diagnosis of ASCVD, ascertained by ICD9 codes and/or self-reported data, were included and stratified by gender. Linear and logistic regression analyses were used to compare patient experience, perception of health, and HRQoL by gender. The regression models were adjusted for socio-demographic characteristics and comorbidities. Results: 21,353 participants were included in this study, with over 10,000 (47%-weighted) of the participants being women - representing approximately 11 million female adults with ASCVD nationwide. Compared with men, a greater proportion of women with ASCVD reported poor health outcomes (figure). Furthermore, women with ASCVD were more likely to experience poor patient provider communication [OR 1.25 (95% CI 1.11, 1.41)], poor patient satisfaction [1.12 (1.02, 1.24)], poor perception of health status [1.15 (1.04, 1.28)], and have lower HRQoL scores (Table). Conclusion: Women with ASCVD were more likely to have a poor patient experience, lower HRQoL and poorer perception of their health when compared with men. These findings have important public health implications and require more research towards understanding the gender-specific differences in healthcare quality, delivery and ultimately health outcomes among individuals with ASCVD.
