Objective: Statin treatment compliance and achieving target levels differ between populations. This study aimed to determine the status of achieving the lipid targets and evaluate patients' compliance to statin treatment in type 2 diabetic patients with dyslipidemia. Method: This cross-sectional study included type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with dyslipidemia who applied for treatment at our polyclinics. Statin compliance was evaluated using the Modified Morisky Adherence Scale (MMAS-8) through a face-to-face interview. Cardiovascular (CV) risk was calculated according to the 2019 ESC (European Society of Cardiology) criteria by evaluating the patients' individual risk factors. LDL targets were determined according to risk categories with the same criteria. Results: A total of 504 patients (F/M: 274/230) were included. The serum LDL levels were 102.6 ± 39.2 mg/dL. Of the patients, 56.1% were under statin treatment. CV risk was very high in 73.6% of patients. LDL levels were significantly lower in users than in non-users (91.2 ± 26.0, 117.3 ± 38.4, p < 0.0001). The rate of reaching the LDL target was 14.8% in statin users. Treatment compliance was low for 40.6% of statin users. Discontinuation of statin treatment due to side effects was 15.7% (n = 14). N = 49 patients willingly discontinued statin treatment. They reported that 40.8% considered the treatment unnecessary. Conclusion: It was observed that 56.1% of type 2 diabetic patients were on statin therapy. A small percentage of them 14.8% (n = 42) reached the LDL target. In the geochemical review based on records from cruises of the International Deep Marine Drilling Project (DSDP, ODP, and IODP phases) and other literature data on the main types of Pleistocene sediments in the Atlantic, tables of average arithmetic chemical composition, mean weighted chemical composition, accumulation rates, and mass accumulation rates of chemical components are presented. These tables can be used for the comparative analysis with sediments of the same or other stratons in different oceanic basins, as well as with paleoceanic sediments on the continents. The terrigenous matrix dominates within the lithogenic matter. Using methods of mathematical statistics, we revealed the main geochemical associations and major factors determining the chemical composition of studied sediments. Masses of oxides of petrogenic elements and several trace elements have been calculated for Pleistocene sediments. Average chemical composition of Pleistocene sediments is proposed for the Atlantic. In swimming, the underwater phase after the start and turn comprises gliding and dolphin kicking, with the latter also known as underwater undulatory swimming (UUS). Swimming performance is highly dependent on the underwater phase; therefore, understanding the training effects in UUS and underwater gliding can be critical for swimmers and coaches. Further, the development of technique in young swimmers can lead to exponential benefits in an athlete's career. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a training protocol on UUS and underwater gliding performance and kinematics in young swimmers. Seventeen age group swimmers (boys = 10, girls = 7) performed maximal UUS and underwater gliding efforts before and after a seven-week training protocol. Time to reach 10 m; intra-cyclic mean, peak, and minimum velocities; and gliding performance improved significantly after the training protocol. The UUS performance improvement was mostly produced by an improvement of the upbeat execution, together with a likely reduction of swimmers' hydrodynamic drag. Despite the changes in UUS and gliding, performance was also likely influenced by growth. Eccentric quasi-isometric (EQI) contractions (maintaining a yielding contraction for as long as possible, beyond task failure) have gained interest in research and applied settings. However, little is known regarding the biomechanical profile of EQIs. Fourteen well-trained males performed four maximal effort knee-extensor EQIs, separated by 180 seconds. Angular impulse, velocity, and time-under-tension through the 30–100º range of motion (ROM), and in eight ROM brackets were quantified. Statistical parametric mapping, analyses of variance, and standardised effects (Hedges' g (ES), %Δ) detected between-contraction joint-angle-specific differences in time-normalised and absolute variables. Mean velocity was 1.34º·s−1 with most (62.5 ± 4.9%) of the angular impulse imparted between 40–70º. Most between-contraction changes occurred between 30–50º (p≤ 0.067, ES = 0.53 ± 0.31, 60 ± 52%), while measures remained constant between 50–100º (= 0.069–0.83, ES = 0.10 ± 0.26, 14.3 ± 24.6%). EQIs are a time-efficient means to impart high cumulative mechanical tension, especially at short to medium muscle lengths. However, angular impulse distribution shifts towards medium to long muscle lengths with repeat contractions. Practitioners may utilise EQIs to emphasize the initial portion of the ROM, and limit ROM, or apply EQIs in a fatigued state to emphasize longer muscle lengths. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Developing new health promotion strategies is crucial, considering the physical inactivity among older people due to COVID-19. This study conducted health promotion activities by utilizing online group exercises to examine their immediate psychological effects. Thirty-six community-dwelling older women performed online group exercises with instructions live-streamed via Zoom. We used a shortened version of the 2nd edition of the Profile of Mood States (POMS 2) to collect data on physical, mental, and cognitive function before and after the activity. All 36 participants had an age range of 75 ± 7. They completed the activity without dropping out. Participants were active and had high cognitive function, but 30% showed depressive tendencies before the activity. After the activity, the results of the POMS 2 showed a significant improvement in depressive tendencies. Online group exercise can improve negative psychological feelings, such as anxiety, stress, and depression, among community-dwelling older people. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the immunologic profile associated with disease flares in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and to investigate the clinical significance of any differences observed between patients during and following a flare. Methods: Multiparameter flow cytometry was used to examine 47 immune populations within the peripheral blood of 16 healthy controls, 25 patients with clinically quiescent SLE, and 46 patients with SLE experiencing a flare at baseline and at 6‐ and 12‐month follow‐up visits. Unsupervised clustering was used to identify patients with similar immune profiles and to track changes over time. Parametric or nonparametric statistics were used when appropriate to assess the association of cellular phenotypes with clinical and laboratory parameters. Results: Five clusters of patients were identified that variably contained patients with active and quiescent SLE, and that had distinct clinical phenotypes. Patients characterized by increased T peripheral helper, activated B, and age‐associated B cells were the most likely to be flaring at baseline, as well as the most likely to remain active or flare over the subsequent year if they acquired or retained this phenotype at follow‐up. In contrast, patients who had increased T helper (Th) cells in the absence of B cell changes, or who had increased Th1 cells and innate immune populations, mostly developed quiescent SLE on follow‐up. A significant proportion of patients with SLE had depletion of many immune populations at flare and only showed increases in these populations post‐flare. Conclusion: Cellular phenotyping of patients with SLE reveals several distinct immunologic profiles that may help to stratify patients with regard to prognosis and treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate for differences in global, cancer-specific, and cumulative life stress, as well as resilience and use of various coping strategies among five groups (no depression or sleep disturbance, no depression and moderate sleep disturbance, subsyndromal depression and very high sleep disturbance, moderate depression and moderate sleep disturbance [Both Moderate]; and high depression and very high sleep disturbance [Both High]). SAMPLE & SETTING: Patients (N = 1,331) receiving chemotherapy were recruited from outpatient oncology clinics. METHODS & VARIABLES: Measures of global, cancer-specific, and cumulative life stress, resilience, and coping were obtained. Differences were evaluated using parametric and nonparametric tests. RESULTS: Global and cancer-specific stress scores increased as joint profiles worsened. Both Moderate and Both High classes had cancer-specific stress scores suggestive of post-traumatic stress. Both Moderate and Both High classes reported higher occurrence rates for several stressful life events and higher use of disengagement coping. Both Moderate and Both High classes had resilience scores below the normative score for the United States. Persuasive gamified systems are effective tools for motivating behaviour change using various persuasive strategies. In line with the reinforcement theory, some persuasive gamified systems employ reward and punishment in their design to achieve the intended behavioural outcome. Research has argued both in favour and against using these strategies in behaviour change applications due to mixed results with respect to their effectiveness. However, there is a lack knowledge about how interventions using these strategies could motivate or demotivate behaviours. Therefore, this paper explores the mechanism through which Reward and Punishment motivate or demotivate behaviours with respect to their strengths and weaknesses. The results of large-scale exploratory studies (N = 1768) uncover important strengths and weaknesses that could facilitate or hinder the effectiveness of Reward and Punishment at motivating behaviour change. These include their ability to engage users and make behaviour fun, reinforce commitments to goals, and reveal some consequences of bad behaviour. Aim: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between nurses' perception of toxic leadership and their organizational trust levels and turnover intentions. Design: This cross‐sectional study was conducted using an online survey of 168 nurses working in public and university hospitals. Methods: Data were collected between April and November 2022 with the Toxic Leadership Scale, Organizational Trust Scale and Turnover Intention Scale. Descriptive statistics, correlations, and regression analyses were used to analyse these data. Results: It was determined that almost half of the nurses (46.4%) were exposed to negative behaviours from their managers within the last year. Nurses' perception of toxic leadership, organizational trust level and turnover intention were moderate. It was found that nurses' perceptions of toxic leadership had a negative effect on organizational trust level (R2 =.691; β = −0.832; p <.05) and a positive significant effect on turnover intention (R2 =.267; β = 0.521; p <.05). Conclusions: This study revealed that toxic leadership behaviours in health organizations should be struggled with to increase nurses' organizational trust and reduce their turnover. In this context, an organizational culture in which toxic behaviours are not tolerated should be established in health organizations. Impact: What problem did the study address? In the literature, mostly positive leadership behaviours of nurse managers are emphasized and little is known about their negative behaviours such as toxic leadership. What were the main findings? This study aimed to test the reproducibility of the 3-min all-out effort applied using shuttle running and compare its values to aerobic parameters. On the first day, 14 futsal players underwent an exhaustive test to determine the maximal incremental speed (MIS) and anaerobic threshold (AnT). On the second day, the participants performed the 3-min all-out effort (n=14), which was repeated after 48 h (third day) to test its reproducibility (n=11). Peak oxygen consumption (V̇ O2PEAK) and peak blood lactate concentrations ([La-]) were determined from 3-min all-out efforts performed through a 20-m shuttle run on the official court. The distance covered, mean speed, and critical speed (CS) during the 3-min all-out presented direct relationships with aerobic parameters determined through the incremental test (r>0.62). The distance covered above CS (D') presented a direct relationship with peak lactate concentrations induced by a 3-min all-out effort (r=0.81). Despite the acceptable levels of reproducibility observed for most of the 3-min all-out variables, the minimal detectable change for D' was high (72%). Our results demonstrated the potential use of mean speed to evaluate aerobic fitness. However, the applicability of the 3-min all-out shuttle run test to monitor training adaptations should be avoided, at least in nonexperienced athletes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective The objective is to increase the level of coordination abilities of schoolchildren diagnosed with myopia. Methods The study was conducted in the period from September 2022 to June 2023 at secondary school number 13 in the Kirov region. A group (n=21) of 4th grade students was formed to conduct a pedagogical experiment. These are boys and girls aged 10-11 years with a mild degree of myopia (up to 3 diopters) - myopia of the first degree. The level of development of coordination abilities was determined by a 3x10 meter Shuttle run, a long jump from a place with the right and left sides, Balance on 1 leg and Dynamic coordination of movements. The Student's T-Test was the main method of mathematical statistics. Results After the end of the pedagogical experiment, the performance of children from the experimental group improved in all indicators. In the shuttle run test, the indicators became higher from 9.36±0.16 to 8.72±0.09 (p<0.05), an increase of 6.8%. The long jump with the right side increased by 10.4% (p<0.05), and with the left side by 7.3% (p<0.05). In the balance on one leg test, the indicators became 13.3% higher (p<0.05), and in the dynamic coordination test, the indicators improved from 8.83±0.89 to 10.05±0.16 (p<0.05), the increase in indicators was 13.8%. Conclusion The results obtained allow us to conclude that our proposed method of using general developmental exercises with objects as a means of developing coordination abilities in children 9-10 years old diagnosed with myopia is effective, which is achieved through regular use of exercises in physical education lessons, as well as by stabilizing the course of myopia during the school day. Introduction: Problem‐solving skills (PSS) help to provide a systematic approach to dealing with and managing complex problems. The overall aim of this study was to assess the acceptability and feasibility of developing and adapting a prison‐based PSS workbook for adults within a medium‐ and low‐secure hospital. Method: We used the Medical Research Council framework in our participatory mixed methods study incorporating an adapted survey (to identify what types of problems people experience in secure hospitals), a series of three interactive workshops (to co‐produce two case study examples for a workbook) and we gathered feedback from patients and hospital staff on the acceptability and feasibility of the workbook. Data from the survey were used to inform the case study examples, and the feedback from patients and hospital staff was descriptively summarised and the results consolidated. Results: In total, 82 (51%) patients took part in the survey; 22 patients and 49 hospital staff provided feedback on the workbook. The survey results indicated that patients regularly experience problems while in the hospital. Patients reported problems relating to restrictions of freedom and boredom. The workshops produced two case studies for the workbooks, with mainly positive patient and staff feedback. More work is required to improve the visual representation of the characters in the case studies, the amount and content of the language and the mechanism of the intervention delivery. Conclusion: The adaptation process proved acceptable and feasible to both patients and staff. The co‐production methodology for the workbook and feedback from patients and staff was an effective way of iteratively refining the materials to ensure that they were both meaningful and acceptable to staff and patients. Subsequent work is required to develop the workbook and evaluate the feasibility of the intervention delivery, recruitment rates, uptake and adherence to the PSS using a randomised controlled trial. This study analyzed the content, visual features, and audience engagement data of Instagram posts from two mental health organizations over one year (N = 725). For content features, mental health literacy and communicative strategies were examined. Posts that promoted knowledge of mental disorders and treatments, used information and community strategy were more likely to receive higher audience engagement. Visual features of demographic segments, visual composition, and visual framing topics were analyzed. Images that covered an unspecific population, used illustrated images, and focused on anti-stigma topical frames obtained more engagement. Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of aging and fiber‐reinforcement on the color stability, translucency, and microhardness of single‐shade resin composites versus multi‐shade resin composite. Materials and Methods: Four resin composites (Filtek Z250, Omnichroma, Vittra APS Unique, Zenchroma) were tested. Three subgroups of specimens were prepared for each of the composites: control, polyethylene fiber‐reinforcement, and glass fiber‐reinforcement‐ groups (n = 10/per group). The samples were subjected to aging for 10,000 thermal cycles. Color differences (ΔE00) were calculated after aging. Relative translucency parameter (RTP00) and microhardness values were calculated before and after aging. A two‐way analysis of variance and the generalized linear model was used (p < 0.05). Results: The lowest and highest ΔE00 values were found for Filtek Z250 (0.6 ± 0.2) and Omnichroma resin composites (1.6 ± 0.4), respectively. The ΔE00 value of the polyethylene fiber‐reinforcement group (1.2 ± 0.6) was significantly higher than the ΔE00 value of the glass fiber‐reinforcement group (1.0 ± 0.4, p < 0.001). The RTP00 value of the glass fiber‐reinforcement group (1.92 ± 0.78) was significantly higher than the RTP00 value of the polyethylene fiber‐reinforcement group (1.72 ± 0.77, p < 0.001). The highest microhardness values were found in glass fiber‐reinforcement group (76.48 ± 17.07, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Single‐shade resin composites were more translucent, had higher color change, and lower hardness than multi‐shade resin composite. For relative translucency and microhardness, statistical significance was found in the material and fiber type interaction. The glass fiber‐reinforcement provided higher translucency, lower color change and higher microhardness values than polyethylene fiber‐reinforcement group after aging. Thermocycling had a significant impact on the color stability, translucency parameter, and microhardness of the tested resin composite materials. Clinical Significance: Single‐shade resin composite materials have greater color‐changing potential. Objectives: Comorbidities associated with venous origin chronic pelvic pain (VO-CPP) were evaluated pre and post venous treatment to assess change. Materials and methods: 45 women with VO-CPP were treated with venous stenting and/or embolization. Four surveys assessed symptoms pre- and post-treatment: IPPS (chronic pelvic pain), PUF (interstitial cystitis), OHQ (dysautonomia), and modified ROME III (IBS). Prevalence of joint hypermobility was investigated. Results: Ages were 18–65. Pretreatment, 64% and 49% of women were in the severe range for PUF and OHQ, respectively. 40% and 56% met criteria for IBS and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome/Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (EDS/HSD), respectively. 17eceived an iliac stent, 5 pelvic embolization, and 23 both. Post-treatment, average scores improved: IPPS (by 55%), PUF (34%), and OHQ (49%). Rome III improved only slightly. Conclusion: Pelvic pain, interstitial cystitis, and dysautonomia were frequently found with VO-CPP and improved after venous treatment. EDS/HSD and IBS were common in these women. Introduction: No prior studies have examined the prevalence of unmet prosthesis need among prosthesis nonusers. Objectives: The aim of this study was to describe the prevalence of unmet need for an upper-limb prosthesis and identify independent covariates associated with unmet need for a prosthesis. Study Design: This study is a telephone survey of 742 persons with upper-limb amputation (ULA). Methods: Differences between users and nonusers and between nonusers with and without an unmet need were compared statistically. Covariates associated with unmet need P ≤ 0.2 in bivariate analyses were included in a multivariate logistic regression model predicting unmet need. Results: Odds of unmet need were higher for those who stopped using a prosthesis within the past year compared with 20 years or more ago (odds ratio [OR], 4.30; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.28–14.51) and those on disability (OR, 4.01; 95% CI, 0.95–16.85). Odds of unmet need were lower for those with higher upper-limb function scores (OR, 0.94; 95% CI, 0.96–1.00), who were unemployed versus employed/student (OR, 0.15; 95% CI, 0.02–0.98), and those who had abandoned a prior prosthesis because it was "too much fuss" (OR, 0.41; 95% CI, 0.18–0.92). Conclusions: Unmet need was prevalent, impacting approximately 50% of persons with upper-limb amputation who were not using a device and 14% who reported never having used a prosthesis. Independent correlates of greater unmet included worse upper-limb function, prosthesis use within the prior year, and disability status. Correlates of lesser unmet need included being unemployed and having abandoned a prosthesis because it was perceived as an undue burden. Further studies are needed to understand barriers to prosthesis use among nonusers with an unmet need. Clinical Relevance: Persons with ULA who do not use a prosthesis should be reevaluated regularly to identify unmet needs. Our findings suggest recent prosthesis users, those with poorer upper-limb function, and those who are employed or on disability are more likely to have unmet needs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Context: Neuromuscular function is altered acutely following concussion and theoretically linked to the subsequent postconcussion musculoskeletal injury risk. Existing research has only examined voluntary muscle activation, limiting mechanistic understanding. Therefore, our study aimed to examine voluntary and involuntary muscle activation between college-aged, concussed individuals when symptom-free and healthy matched controls. Design: Prospective, cross-sectional cohort laboratory study. Methods: Concussed and healthy participants (n = 24; 58% male, age: 19.3 [1.1] y, mass: 70.3 [16.4] kg, height: 177.3 [12.7] cm) completed the superimposed burst (SB) neuromuscular assessment on their dominant limb within 72 hours after self-reporting asymptomatic (22.4 [20.2] d postinjury). Unnormalized and bodyweight-normalized quadriceps maximal voluntary isometric contraction torque (in newton meters), unnormalized and bodyweight-normalized electrically stimulated SB torque, pain (numeric 1–10) during SB, and the central activation ratio (in percentage) were assessed via the SB. Parametric and nonparametric analyses, 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs), and Hedges g (parametric) and Spearman ρ (nonparametric) effect sizes were used to examine group differences (α =.05). Results: The maximal voluntary isometric contraction torque (concussed: 635.60 N·m [300.93] vs control: 556.27 N·m [182.46]; 95% CI, −131.36 to 290.02; P =.443; d = 0.33), SB torque (concussed: 203.22 N·m [97.17], control: 262.85 N·m [159.07]; 95% CI, −171.22 to 51.97; P =.280; d = −0.47), and central activation ratio (concussed: 72.16% [17.16], control: 70.09% [12.63]; 95% CI, −10.68 to 14.83; P =.740; d = 0.14) did not differ between the concussed and control groups regardless of bodyweight normalization (P ≥.344). Pain during the SB was significantly higher with a medium effect for participants with a concussion versus healthy controls (concussed: median = 7, control: median = 5; P =.046; ρ = −0.42). Discussion: These findings suggest concussed participants do not have statistically altered voluntary or involuntary quadricep neuromuscular function once asymptomatic compared with controls. Therefore, the elevated postconcussion musculoskeletal injury risk may not be attributed to lower-extremity muscle activation. This study aimed to analyze whether there are differences and associations in the physical responses in international-level cerebral palsy footballers between official matches and 2v2 small-sided games (2v2-SSG). One hundred seventy international cerebral palsy footballers participated in this study during three international championships. The physical responses of mean and maximum velocities, total distance, distance covered at different intensities, short-term actions, and player load were collected during 2v2-SSG and the real competition. The mean velocity, total distance, jogging, medium- and high-intensity distances, the number of moderate/high accelerations, decelerations, and player load were relatively higher in the 2v2-SSG than in the official matches. Even though the 2v2-SSG could become an appropriate drill to include during the classification process, due to the differences between a 2v2-SSG and the official competition, it is necessary to deepen the scientific knowledge for developing observation methods during real competition to strengthen the relationships between eligible impairments and activity limitation. Simple Summary: This study reports on a comparison between the Hugo RAS system and the da Vinci (DV) system in robot-assisted radical prostatectomy. The parameters consisted of intraoperative anastomosis and overall console time, functional outcomes, and oncological outcomes. We found that, although the anastomosis time of the urinary bladder and urethra was lengthened, the overall console time was not affected. In short-term functional and oncological outcomes, these two parameters were not compromised in the Hugo RAS group. Based on our results, the DV system could facilitate swift adaptation to the Hugo RAS system. Importantly, the functional and oncological outcomes would not be compromised in the process of adapting to the Hugo RAS system. Objective: In a previous study, we proved that an experienced urologist is more likely to adapt to the Hugo RAS system. Based on this, we further examine various parameters in this study. Parameters included in this study consisted of console time, functional outcomes, and oncological outcomes. Materials and Methods: A total of 60 patients who underwent robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) performed by a single surgeon using the da Vinci (DV) system (n = 30) or the Hugo RAS system (n = 30) between March 2023 and August 2023 were included in the analysis. The intraoperative operative time was categorized into vesicourethral anastomosis time and overall console time. Functional and oncological outcomes were documented at the 1st and 3rd postoperative months. Parametric and non-parametric methods were adopted after checking skewness and kurtosis, and an α value of 5% was used to determine the significance. Results: The vesicourethral anastomosis time was significantly lengthened (Hedge's g: 0.87; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.34–1.39; J factor = 0.987). However, the overall console time was not affected. The functional (postoperative 3rd month: p = 0.130) and oncological outcomes (postoperative 3rd month: p = 0.103) were not significantly different. We also found that the adverse effect on surgical specimens and positive surgical margins was not affected (p = 0.552). Conclusion: During the process of adaptation, although intricate motions (such as the vesicourethral anastomosis time) would be lengthened, the overall console time would not change remarkably. In this process, the functional and oncological outcomes would not be compromised. This encourages urologists to adopt the Hugo RAS system in RARP if they have previous experiences of using the DV system, since their trifecta advantage would not be compromised. Background: Recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) injury after thyroidectomy is relatively common. Locating the RLN prior to thyroid dissection is paramount to avoid injury. We developed a fluorescence imaging system that permits nerve autofluorescence. We aimed to determine the sensitivity and specificity of fluorescence imaging at detecting the RLN relative to thyroid and other background tissue and compared it to white light. Methods: In this prospective study, 65 patients underwent thyroidectomy from January to April 2022 (16 bilateral thyroid resections) using white and fluorescent light. Fluorescence intensity [relative fluorescence units (RFU)] was recorded for RLN, thyroid, and background. RFU mean, minimum, and maximum values were calculated using Image J software. Thirty randomly selected pairs of white and fluorescent light images were independently reviewed by two examiners to compare RLN detection rate, number of branches, and length and minimum width of nerves visualized. Parametric and nonparametric statistical analysis was performed. Results: All 81 RNLs observed were visualized more clearly under fluorescence (mean intensity, µ = 134.3 RFU) than either thyroid (µ = 33.7, p < 0.001) or background (µ = 14.4, p < 0.001). Forest plots revealed no overlap between RLN intensity and that of either other tissue. Sensitivity and specificity for RLN were 100%. All 30 RLNs and all 45 nerve branches were clearly visualized under fluorescence, versus 17 and 22, respectively, with white light (both p < 0.001). Visible nerve length was 2.5 × as great with fluorescence as with white light (µ = 1.90 vs. 0.76 cm, p < 0.001). Conclusions: In 65 patients and 81 nerves, RLN detection was markedly and consistently enhanced with autofluorescence neuro-imaging during thyroidectomy, with 100% sensitivity and specificity. Objective: Limited research exists on the sleep profiles of South African Para athletes. The aims of this study are to describe sleep quality, day-time sleepiness, and chronotype of South African Para athletes and to compare the relationship between sleep-related outcomes and demographic factors to athletes from a higher-resource country. Design: A descriptive, cross-sectional survey was conducted. Sleep-related characteristics were assessed with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Epworth Sleepiness Scale and Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire. Multiple regression models were run with and without country as independent variable. Results: One hundred twenty-four South African athletes and 52 Israeli athletes were included. Thirty percent of South African athletes presented with excessive daytime sleepiness, 35% slept 6 hrs or less per night, and 52% reported poor sleep quality. Thirty-three percent of Israeli athletes reported excessive daytime sleepiness, 29% slept 6 hrs or less, and 56% reported poor sleep quality. Chronotype was the only variable that differed significantly between countries (overrepresentation of morning types in South African athletes, and intermediate types in Israeli athletes). Intermediate chronotypes had significantly greater odds of excessive daytime sleepiness (P = 0.007) and poor sleep quality (P = 0.002) than morning types, irrespective of country. Objective: In middle-aged individuals with early-stage knee osteoarthritis, follow-up with remote rehabilitation methods may provide effective clinical outcomes. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of telerehabilitation on pain, function, performance, strength, proprioception, and psychosocial parameters in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Design: A randomized controlled study was conducted with 54 participants with knee osteoarthritis. All patients were randomized into two groups: the home-based telerehabilitation group (n = 29) and the home-based paper group (n = 28). The home exercise program and training were provided with an instruction manual to paper group. The same home exercise and education prescriptions were given to individuals in telerehabilitation group via an online platform. Pain, function, quality of life, physical performance, muscle strength, and proprioception were evaluated at baseline and after 8 wks of intervention. In addition, satisfaction and usability were evaluated at week 8. Results: Telerehabilitation group demonstrated better improvement in terms of pain, function, quality of life index score, and left extremity proprioception (P < 0.05). Telerehabilitation group was not superior to paper group in terms of muscle strength and performance tests (except the Five Times Sit to Stand Test) (P > 0.05). Conclusions: The home-based telerehabilitation program was superior to the home-based paper group program for pain, function, quality of life, and proprioception in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Mindfulness means being in the present, intentionally and without any judgment. Mindfulness helps people cope with challenging experiences such as trauma. Children's Homes in Türkiye are institutions that provide social care to young people with past traumatic experiences. This study aims at evaluating the effects of a mindfulness-based (MB) groupwork program with a group of residents in a Children's Home. An experimental pretest-posttest control group design was used. An eight-session MB training program was implemented with 21 female adolescents. There were 29 female adolescents in the control group. The MB groupwork program significantly increased the mindfulness levels of the group. However, its effect on the other variables could not be determined at a significant level. There were positive correlations between mindfulness, life satisfaction and subjective happiness, and a negative correlation with perceived stress. The results of this study showed that MB interventions increase mindfulness levels of adolescents in a Children's Home setting in Türkiye. Secondly, as mindfulness increased, life satisfaction and subjective happiness also increased while perceived stress decreased. The present study is the first to examine theory of mind (ToM) sequelae in a sample of adult survivors of primary brain tumors, and to investigate the assumed relationship between ToM and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Participants were 40 long-term adult survivors of primary brain tumors and 40 matched healthy controls. They completed ToM tests (Faux-Pas test and Advanced ToM task) and two questionnaires assessing HRQoL (36-Item Short-Form Health Survey and EORTC QLQ-C30/QLQ-BN20). Their relatives also completed an observer-rated version of the SF-36 questionnaire. Survivors performed worse than controls only on the Advanced ToM task. Overall, patients and caregivers reported more problems than healthy controls and their relatives regarding both global HRQoL and its social/emotional aspects. No relationship was found between ToM and HRQoL scores. Adult survivors of primary brain tumors may exhibit ToM deficits several years after treatment and report more problems on social/emotional HRQoL components. Our findings highlight the need to consider these late effects in survivors' long-term follow-up, even if the clinical involvement of ToM deficits still needs to be elucidated. However, if length-tension relationships affect both contractions equally remains unknown. Therefore, our purpose was to compare concentric versus eccentric shoulder external and internal rotation strength across a continuous 90° arc. Fifty-two physically active individuals performed isokinetic concentric and eccentric shoulder external rotation and internal rotation through a 90° arc (forearm horizontal to forearm vertical) with the shoulder elevated in both the frontal and scapular planes. Statistical parametric mapping analysis compared concentric and eccentric trials within subjects. Frontal plane eccentric external rotation torque was greater than concentric 30°-90° (p, 0.01) external rotation, and concentric external rotation torque was greater 5°-15° external rotation (p50.01). Frontal plane, eccentric internal rotation torque was greater than concentric 15°-55° external rotation (p < 0.01), and concentric torque was greater at forearm horizontal (p50.05) and 70°-90° external rotation (p < 0.01). Scapular plane eccentric external rotation torque was greater than concentric 30°-90° external rotation (p, 0.01) and concentric external rotation torque was greater 5°-20° external rotation (p < 0.01). Scapular plane eccentric internal rotation torque was greater than concentric 15°-60° external rotation (p < 0.01), and concentric torque was greater at forearm horizontal (p50.05) and 78°-90° external rotation (p50.02). The two main parameters of grouting volume and grouting pressure are the keys to ensuring the quality of postgrouting. However, there is no equation for predicting the main grouting parameters of long and large-diameter postgrouting drilled shafts. In this paper, field data of 708 shafts in 128 projects were systematically investigated utilizing mathematical statistics, and equations for predicting the grouting volume and grouting termination pressure of long and large-diameter drilled shafts suitable for various soil layers were proposed. The range of coefficients of the grouting volume classified by soil types was defined. When establishing the equation for predicting the grouting termination pressure for a long drilled shaft, the influences of the cement grout weight in the grout pipe and the height difference between the pressure sensor and the grout valve on the grouting pressure were considered. Taking the grouting pressure and grouting volume as the control conditions of postgrouting operation, the criteria conditions for terminating postgrouting were proposed.The proposed equations for predicting the grouting volume and grouting termination pressure were verified based on a project case study. The factors affecting the grouting termination pressure were analyzed in detail. These research results were of great significance to the design of postgrouting drilled shafts. Background: Global nursing workforce shortage represents an impediment to the delivery of safe, evidence-based healthcare. Despite collective efforts, a consistent stream of nurses leaving the profession remains, particularly within the first five years of practice, which is exacerbated in rural communities. The aim of the study was to compare self-efficacy, grit, and rural career aspirations among nursing graduates between their second and fourth year of their nursing profession. Methods: As part of a longitudinal investigation, a repeated cross-sectional design was utilised. Participants included, 117 (response rate 52.2%) who completed an online questionnaire 18–24 months after graduating, and 32 participants (response rate of 21.0%) who agree to repeat the questionnaire 36–48 months after graduating. The questionnaire included demographic, employment, and measures examining general and occupational self-efficacy, grit, and rural career aspirations. Results: No differences between general and occupational self-efficacy or grit were identified between second- and fourth-year nurses. In addition, the importance placed on undertaking rural career also remains unchanged. However, a higher proportion of fourth year nurses were more likely to be in management or were considering leaving the profession. Conclusions: This examination of early career nurses, now in their second and fourth-year post-graduation highlights self-efficacy, grit, and rural career aspirations remains stable between two- and four-years following graduation, while nursing in their fourth year were more likely to consider leaving the profession. Background: During a program review, faculty identified that nurse practitioner (NP) students who received a C grade in Advanced Pathophysiology (Patho) and Advanced Pharmacology (Pharm) appeared to perform poorly in the later NP management courses and on other program outcomes. Purpose: The research aimed to determine whether grades in graduate Patho and Pharm courses could predict performance in NP management courses, program progression and completion, and certification pass rates. Methodology: This research included deidentified student data from 2016 to 2018 across seven NP specialty tracks (n = 4,575). Nonparametric and parametric tests were used in the analysis. Results: A significant correlation (p < .001) existed between Patho and Pharm grades. Lower grades in these two courses were significantly related to each other and to lower management course grades. Logistic regression showed that graduate pathophysiology grades significantly predicted certification examination performance, with lower grades associated with lower certification examination performance. Graduate pharmacology grades, pathophysiology grades, composite management course grades, and admission grade point average (GPA) significantly predicted final cumulative GPA, with lower grades associated with lower performance for all variables. Conclusions: Results of this research support the hypothesis that grades of C in Patho or Pharm courses significantly predict C performance in the management NP courses and lower certification success rates. In dose-finding (DF) trials, methods for discovering an optimal criterion that controls toxicity while demonstrating a potential for efficacy have been the subject of statistical research. Although continual reassessment methods (CRMs) have been utilized, the consensus among practitioners and clinical trial specialists is that there is always room for improvement with CRMs. Within the paradigm of a full-Bayesian method for CRMs, we examine the performance of dose selection algorithms based on a family of loss functions defined in Huber (The Annals of Mathematical Statistics, vol. 35, issue 1, pp. 73–101, 1964), namely, the Huber loss function, with a special focus on the modified Huber loss function (MHLF). Our exploration suggests that, compared to Bayesian optimal interval design (BOIN) and toxicity interval loss function (TILF), the approach based on the MHLF has been able to select correct doses with fewer average number of patients across the spectrum of dose escalation schemes such as those seen in clinical settings. Background: The adverse effects of chemotherapy‐induced diabetic peripheral neuropathy (CIDPN) are rather prevalent. There is no known pharmaceutical treatment that can stop CIDPN. Objective: This study compared the effects of cold application and transcutaneous nerve stimulation (Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS)) on individuals who had undergone mastectomy following CIDPN. Subjects and methods: Between Mars 2021 and September 2021, a randomised controlled experiment was carried out at physical therapy clinics at the Modern University for Technology and Information. 30 patients were randomly split into two equal groups (A and B). Both lower limbs received cold application (Group A) three times per week for 12 weeks and TENS application (Group B) three times each week for 12 weeks. The Visual Analogue Scale and nerve conduction velocity for the sural nerve were used to assess patients before and after 12 weeks of therapy. Results: The results showed that Group A significantly (p < 0.05) decreased pain intensity after treatment by 70.83% compared with Group B by 55.17%. Moreover, Group A improved significantly (p < 0.05) the sural nerve amplitude by 44.12% compared with group B which recorded 26.87%. After treatment, both pain intensity and sural nerve amplitude significantly (p < 0.05) changed between Group A versus Group B. The value of health care delivered via effective interprofessional teams has created an imperative for interprofessional education (IPE) and interprofessional collaborative practice (ICP). To inform IPE strategies, we investigated differences in perceived self-efficacy (SE) for competence in ICP among health professions students. The study data were collected between 2015 and 2019 from students from 13 different health professions programmes (N = 3,497) before an annual institutional interprofessional programme. Students completed the IPECC-SET-27, a validated instrument evaluating perceived SE for competence in ICP, and rated their 1) amount of previous contact with, and 2) perceived understanding of, the role of different health professions. Students in different health professions education programmes were compared using parametric statistics. Regression analyses explored factors influencing SE for competence in ICP. Findings revealed significant differences in perceived SE for competence in ICP between programmes (p <.05). Specifically, health information management/health informatics, dentistry, medicine, and nursing students expressed relatively higher SE, whereas physical therapy and occupational therapy students expressed relatively lower SE. Perceived understanding of the role of health professions (p <.01) and gender (p <.01) contributed significantly to predicting perceived SE for competence in ICP, while the amount of previous contact with other health professions did not (p =.42). Constipation is one of the major issues faced by children with neuro-developmental disorder (NDD). The aims of the study were to: 1) examine the effectiveness of a structured physiotherapy program on constipation in children with NDD; and 2) compare if conventional physiotherapy along with structured physiotherapy intervention has any combined effect on constipation in children with NDD. Thirty-five children with neurodevelopmental disorder were assessed and randomly allotted into two groups. Twenty-two completed the intervention for 2 weeks and were statistically analyzed at baseline and post 4 weeks at a single tertiary center. The outcome measures used were Pediatric quality of life inventory (PedsQL), Peds QL Gastrointestinal symptoms scale, Bristol stool form scale, and defecation frequency. Group A received the conventional treatment, whereas group B received structured physiotherapy along with the conventional treatment. Group A had no significant outcomes, whereas in group B there were statistically significant differences for all outcome measures. Comparatively, a statistically significant change was noted for PedsQL GI symptoms scale (p =.045) and its constipation sub-scale (p =.002) in group B along with change in the Bristol stool form. Combined effect of structured along with conventional physiotherapy was better in terms of form of stool, constipation, and its associated quality of life factors as compared to conventional physiotherapy alone. The performance-related pay system in colleges and universities is one of the hot spots in the reform of the wage system in colleges and universities in recent years. It is an important measure to improve the quality of education and teaching in colleges and universities and the construction of talent teams. However, there are many problems in the performance-related pay system of colleges and universities, such as unreasonable evaluation indicators, unfair weight distribution, etc., which makes it difficult to accurately reflect the work performance of teachers and staff in the measurement of performance-related pay. Based on this background and trend, this paper conducted an in-depth discussion on the salary system in China's colleges and universities, and used the support vector regression algorithm to study the performance-based salary management of colleges and universities based on linear programming and mathematical statistics. The research showed that with other conditions remaining unchanged, the proportions of primary, intermediate, deputy and senior high school students who were dissatisfied with the system of performance-based pay in colleges and universities were 82%, 57%, 46%, and 9%, respectively. After applying linear programming and mathematical statistics, the proportions of elementary, intermediate, sub-high and ortho-high became 1%, 2%, 5% and 7% respectively. The decline of the first three was particularly obvious, and the teachers with positive high school also dropped by 2%, indicating that linear programming and mathematical statistics were beneficial to the management of performance wages in colleges and universities. We discuss the evolution in the presentation of statistical science in English‐language textbooks, focusing on the period 1900–1970 as the field became increasingly influenced by research contributions of R. A. Fisher and Jerzy Neyman. George Udny Yule authored an early popular book that had 14 editions. Methods books authored by Fisher and George Snedecor guided scientists in implementing modern statistical methods. In the World War 2 era, textbooks authored by Maurice Kendall, Samuel Wilks, and Harald Cramér presented a dramatically different "mathematical statistics" portrayal that centered on theoretical foundations. The textbook emergence of the Bayesian approach occurred later, influenced by books by Harold Jeffreys and Leonard J. Savage. The quarter century after World War 2 saw an explosion of books in mathematical statistics and in particular topic areas. In addition to his highly cited research contributions, Sir David Cox was a prolific author of books on a great variety of topics. Most were published after the 1900–1970 period considered in this article, but we also summarize them as part of this special issue to honor his memory. Summary: Professor Adrian E. Raftery is the Boeing International Professor of Statistics and Sociology and an adjunct professor of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Washington in Seattle. He was born in Dublin, Ireland, and obtained a BA in Mathematics (1976) and an MSc in Statistics and Operations Research (1977) at Trinity College Dublin. He obtained a doctorate in mathematical statistics in 1980 from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, France, under the supervision of Paul Deheuvels. He was a lecturer in statistics at Trinity College Dublin from 1980 to 1986, and then an associate (1986–1990) and full (1990‐present) professor of statistics and sociology at the University of Washington. He was the founding Director of the Center for Statistics and Social Sciences (1999–2009). Professor Raftery has published over 200 articles in peer‐reviewed statistical, sociological and other journals. His research focuses on Bayesian model selection and Bayesian model averaging, model‐based clustering, inference for deterministic simulation models, and the development of new statistical methods for demography, sociology, and the environmental and health sciences. He is a member of the United States National Academy of Sciences, a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, an Honorary Member of the Royal Irish Academy, a member of the Washington State Academy of Sciences, a Fellow of the American Statistical Association, a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and an elected Member of the Sociological Research Association. The mechanical and hydraulic properties of rock discontinuity are anisotropic, and the main reason resides in the anisotropy of surface morphology. This study delved systematically into the anisotropic characteristics of surface morphology and its evaluation method. Among hundreds of morphology parameters, the most representative one was selected utilizing mathematical statistics and correlation analysis. Through morphology analysis of eight discontinuity specimens, the maximum deviation of roughness in each direction was proposed as an anisotropy evaluation index, serving as a bridge to establish the relationship between the anisotropic characteristics of surface morphology and shear strength. In-depth research was conducted to discuss the distribution range of controlling factors of shear strength and explore the influence of anisotropy degree and controlling factors on the prediction deviation of shear strength. Based on the aforementioned results, an anisotropy evaluation method was put forth to divide the anisotropy degree of rock discontinuity into four levels, and the prediction deviation of shear strength at each level was described in a quantitative manner. The novelty of this study is listed as follows. The existing literature lacks research on quantitative evaluation methods of anisotropic characteristics, and this study would compensate for this deficiency; this method has a valid theoretical foundation and is capable of simultaneously determining the anisotropic characteristics of morphology and shear strength; the methods concerning how to simplify surface morphology as isotropy and embed discontinuity roughness into a numerical algorithm have been proposed, respectively. Background: Thoracic myofascial pain syndrome is a clinical problem arising from the muscles and soft tissues of thoracic region, which include the mid and upper back area. Risk factors associated with myofascial pain syndrome are muscle overuse and repetitive strain, poor posture, trauma or injury, emotional and psychological stresses. The management of myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) typically involves a multidimensional approach that focuses on relieving pain, reducing muscle tension, and improving muscle function. Bowen therapy and tennis ball technique are also recommended for treating myofascial pain syndrome. Objective: The objective of this study was to compare the effects of Bowen therapy and tennis ball technique on pain and functional disability in patients with thoracic myofascial pain syndrome. Methods: It was a randomized clinical trial conducted on thirty patients. It was carried out in physiotherapy outpatient department of D.H.Q Hospital, Kasur. Non-probability convenience sampling technique was used. Data collection was done from the patients of thoracic myofascial pain syndrome by using Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS) for pain and Pain Disability Questionnaire (PDQ) for functional disability. Participants were randomly allocated into two groups using computer generated random number method. Group A received Bowen therapy, and group B received tennis ball technique. Outcome measures were measured at baseline, after second week treatment session and after fourth week with three sessions in a week on alternate days. Data analysis was done by using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 26. Results: There was significant difference between the mean values of NPRS and PDQ in both groups at baseline, second week and fourth week with p value < 0.05. The results indicated that both treatments were significant but Bowen therapy is more effective treatment than tennis ball technique. Within-group difference calculated with repeated-measure ANOVA indicated that there was significant difference from pre- to post-values of both groups. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of percutaneous endoscopic interlaminar discectomy (PEID) for treating highly downward-migrated disc herniation. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study on 39 patients with highly downward-migrated disc herniation who underwent PEID treatment between January 2015 and October 2020. The clinical outcomes, including the preoperative and postoperative visual analogue scale (VAS) for the back and leg, Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), and MacNab criteria for surgical success, were evaluated and compared to thirty-seven patients treated with posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF). Results: The mean operation time of PEID was 93.00(77.00,110.00) min, while that of PLIF was 169.00(157.00,183.00) min. Continued improvement in both PEID and PLIF was observed in the VAS and ODI scores immediately after the surgery to the last follow‐up. The VAS and ODI scores of PEID one week after surgery were significantly different from those of PLIF. One patient with recurrent lumbar disc herniation in the same segment improved after undergoing repeat PEID, two patients had dura tears, and conservative treatment helped relieve the symptoms. The overall percentage of patients with good to excellent results of PELD according to the modified MacNab criteria was 97.43%, while that of PLIF was 94.60%. Conclusions: PEID has reliable efficacy and safety for treating highly downward-migrated disc herniation. And the long-term efficacy of PEID is comparable to PLIF. No severe complications occurred after surgery, and most patients' symptoms were relieved. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article presents and investigates a modified version of the Weibull distribution that incorporates four parameters and can effectively represent a hazard rate function with a shape resembling a bathtub. Its significance in the fields of lifetime and reliability stems from its ability to model both increasing and decreasing failure rates. The proposed distribution encompasses several well-known models such as the Weibull, extreme value, exponentiated Weibull, generalized Rayleigh, and modified Weibull distributions. The paper derives key mathematical statistics of the proposed distribution, including the quantile function, moments, moment-generating function, and order statistics density. Various mathematical properties of the proposed model are established, and the unknown parameters of the distribution are estimated using different estimation techniques. Furthermore, the effectiveness of these estimators is assessed through numerical simulation studies.
