1. Double Power-law Formation by Sequential Particle Acceleration

Abstract

Spectral double power laws are common in solar high-energy phenomena such as flares and interplanetary energetic-electron events. However, the physical mechanism that produces the changes in power-law index within a single spectrum is unclear. We developed a fully analytical method of forming single power-law spectra from sequential acceleration of particles orbiting inside and hopping between simulated large-scale magnetic islands formed by flare reconnection. Here, we extend the analytical method to the formation of double power-law spectra by assuming sequential acceleration in two successive regions with different acceleration and particle-transport rates. The resulting spectral distribution is continuous and smooth, with a flattening at low energies, two power-law regions at mid-energies, and a steep rollover at high energies. The model provides analytical expressions for the spectral indices, all energy breaks, and normalization constants as functions of just three physical parameters of each acceleration region: (1) the energy gain in each accelerator, (2) the percentage of particles transferred between accelerators, and (3) the number of accelerators visited. One of the most salient predictions of our work is that the spectral index at high (low) energies is determined by the parameters of the first “seed” (second) acceleration region. By constructing the spectral distribution through an iterative analytical process, the evolution toward a double power law is easily characterized and explained. Our analytical model provides tools to interpret space- and ground-based observations from RHESSI, FOXSI, NuSTAR, Solar Orbiter/STIX, EOVSA, and future high-energy missions.

6. LANDSLIDE SUSCEPTIBILITY MAPPING IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF OUDKA, NORTHERN MOROCCO: A COMPARISON BETWEEN LOGISTIC REGRESSION AND ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS MODELS

Abstract

The Rif is among the areas of Morocco most susceptible to landslides, because of the existence of relatively young reliefs marked by a very important dynamics compared to other regions. These landslides are one of the most serious problems on many levels: social, economic and environmental. The increase in the frequency and impact of landslides over the past decade has demonstrated the need for an in-depth study of these phenomena, allowing the identification of areas susceptible to landslides. The main objective of this study is to identify the optimal method for the mapping of the area susceptible to landslides in municipality of Oudka. This area has been marked by the largest landslide in the region, caused by heavy rainfall in 2013. Two Statistical Methods i) Regression Logistics (LR) ii) Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), were used to create a landslide susceptibility map. The realization of this susceptibility map required, first, the mapping of old landslides by the aerial photography, the data of the geological map and by the data obtained using field surveys using GPS. A total of 105 landslides were mapped from these various sources. 50% of this database was used for model building and 50% for validation. Eight independent landslide factors are exploited to detect the most sensitive areas: altitude, slope, aspect, distance of faults, distance streams, distance from roads, lithology and vegetation index (NDVI). The results of the landslide susceptibility analysis were verified using success and prediction rates. The success rate (AUC = 0.918) and the prediction rate (AUC = 0.901) of the LR model is higher than that of the ANN model (success rate (AUC = 0.886) and prediction rate (AUC = 0.877). These results indicate that the Regression Logistic (LR) model is the best model for determining landslide susceptibility in the study area.

7. Gas Flow and Heat Transfer in an Enclosure Induced by a Sinusoidal Temperature

Abstract

The heat transfer and flow characteristics of rarefied gas confined within a square cavity are investigated. The cavity upper-wall is subjected to a symmetrical sinusoidal temperature with respect to its midline. Two cases are considered, one of them is that the bottom and two sidewalls are kept adiabatic, while in the other, all the enclosure walls are considered diffusely reflecting. Kinetically, the gas is simulated with the direct simulation Monte Carlo method (DSMC) in the slip and transition regimes. The DSMC results are compared with the Navier-Stokes-Fourier equation, with second order boundary conditions of velocity slip and temperature jump, (NSF) in the slip regime. Main outcomes are presented as velocity streamlines overlaid on temperature contours and macroscopic parameters plots. The Knudsen number (Kn) increase shows other vortices, beside the two classical ones that appear in the hydrodynamic and slip regime. The normal heat flux about the sinusoidally heated wall is strengthened by the flow in DSMC rather than that predicted by NSF method. Good agreement is observed between the NSF theory and DSMC method in the early slip regime, but when Kn=0.1 the NSF approach breaks down to show the secondary counter rotating eddies illustrated by the DSMC method.

10. Burn and Pregnancy

Abstract

Burns in pregnant women, although rare, can be serious, and therefore can be life-threatening for the mother and fetus. Morbidity and mortality are influenced by factors related to the burn, such as the depth and the TBSA burned, and patient-related factors, such as age, pre-existing medical conditions, associated injuries, and the term of the pregnancy. The fetal prognosis is generally good when the mother does not develop severe complications such as sepsis, hypotension, or hypoxia. The management’s goal is maternal and fetal rescue. The treatment protocol must be well codified, requiring the establishment of a multidisciplinary team involving plastic surgeons, reanimators, and obstetricians. Treatment including aggressive hydro-electrolyte resuscitation, oxygen therapy, thromboprophylaxis, and early and effective antibiotic prophylaxis, are effective measures for both maternal and fetal management. Early excision of deep lesions and skin grafts is the cornerstone of the management of burnt pregnant women, in order to reduce the amount of prostaglandin and cytokines released into the circulation. As part of the fetal rescue, labor induction is imperative if pregnancy is in the third trimester for extraction from the toxic environment, otherwise, tocolysis and obstetrical monitoring to reach the third trimester. We present a case series of burns occurring in pregnant women treated at the National Center for Burns and Plastic and Restorative Surgery.

12. The Electronic Gadgets Explosion Burn

Abstract

With the technological progress of humans and the need to stay connected by various means of communication including laptops and smartphones, security measures must follow the qualities of computers as well as their chargers. Explosion burns of electronic gadgets are rarely reported in the scientific literature. We report three cases of explosive burns of electronic gadgets including one by explosion of a laptop computer. The aim of our work is to explain the explosion mechanism and emphasize the safety measures to be followed to limit this type of accident, which can be serious and sometimes fatal.

13. Live Skin Allograft for Coverage of Deep and Extensive Burns: First Experience in Morocco

Abstract

The gold standard for closure of excised full-thickness burns is split-thickness skin autograft. Patients with very large burns have limited donor sites for harvesting of autograft and may benefit from the use of skin Allografts. Taken from cadaveric or human skin as part of tissue donation. Allograft skin has been widely used for wound management in burn centers. Functional as biologic dressing, it can not only provide ideal temporary wound coverage in extensive burns when autograft is not immediately available but also prepare the wound bed for definitive autografting. In this study, we present the results of the use of allograft from living donors in three children, the use of this live skin allograft has permitted to keep the children’s alive in a balanced physiologic state until autologous skin graft or spontaneous healing closed all wounds. The procedure of live skin allograft is simple and replicable, and can be applied in settings where no skin bank is available in the management of deep burns.

14. P371 Assessment Of Postoperative Complications Following Ileocecal Resection In Crohn’s Disease From A Low-To-Middle Income Country

Abstract

Background Our study aims to assess risk factors of postoperative complications following ileocecal resection of Crohn’s disease from a low-to-middle income country perspective. We aimed to provide local data demonstrative of inner conditions and challenges. Methods This was a retrospective study conducted in a referral colorectal center in a low-to-middle income country from 2014 to 2020. We included all patients with Crohn’s disease admitted to our department for ileocecal resection. Patient’s and Crohn’s disease, surgical and postoperative characteristics were collected using chart review. We excluded all patients with missing data. We defined perioperative hemorrhage as blood loss≥200cc. Our primary outcome was immediate Results We included 83 patients with complete data. The median age was 34(18-75) and 54.2%(n=45) were female. Patients were 94.6%from urban areas and 5.4%(n=4) rural. Among all included surgeries, 83.1%(n=69) were elective and 16.9%(n=14) were emergency cases. Open surgery was conducted in 46 cases(55.4%), 30patients had laparoscopic ileocecal resection (36.1%), and 7(8.4%) had conversion. Immediate postoperative complications were reported in 16.9%(n=14);anastomotic leak 2(2.4%), surgical site infection 8(9.6%), entero-cutaneous fistula 2(2.4%), and postoperative hemorrhage 2(2.4%). Long-term outcomes with surgical reoperation were conducted in 5 cases(5.8%) excluding stoma removal. The total length of stay median was 6 days (4-31). Immediate postoperative complications were associated with postoperative bleeding(OR=27.8; 95% CI[1.26-614];p=0.001,Fisher’s=0.027), required transfusion during surgery or at postoperative follow-up(OR=18.3;95% CI[3.09-109];p Conclusion Considering the accessibility of hemoglobin management in a low-to-middle income country, it represents an impactful tool in surgical quality enhancement.

16. Adsorption of imazethapyr on six agricultural soils of Morocco: Evaluation of the impact of soil properties

Abstract

Imazethapyr herbicide [5-ethyl-2-(4-isopropyl-4-methyl-5-oxo-2-imidazolin-2-yl) nicotinic acid] is widely used on agricultural field crops in Morocco. It is reported that soil properties largely enhance the sorption of the herbicide in soils, however understanding their impact in soils of Morocco is needed. The present article investigates the sorption behavior of imazethapyr herbicide toward six agricultural soils from Morocco in batch equilibrium experiments at pH 5 and evaluates the effect of the organic matter, the clay content, and the cation exchange capacity (CEC) on the sorption by applying simple and multiple linear regressions. Freundlich isotherm model described well the dynamic of imazethapyr sorption in all studied soils under the experimental conditions. The linear regressions showed significant differences between the soil properties and their impact on the sorption. While simple regression revealed strong positive correlations between the sorption and both the soil clay content (R2 = 0.91) and CEC (R2 = 0.92), the multiple regression revealed a noteworthy influence of soil organic matter when combined with clays. Our findings showed a weak adsorption of imazethapyr on the selected Moroccan soils, in addition to a potential role of clay minerals and CEC in the retention of the herbicide compared to the organic matter. The low adsorptive capacity of the Moroccan soils urges the necessity of minimizing herbicide application rates in agricultural regions to prevent environmental detrimental impacts.

17. Endovascular Treatment Versus Surgery in Long Occlusions of the Superficial Femoral Artery about 50 Cases

Abstract

Surgical treatment is considered the gold standard for the management of complex lesions in FSA and is currently in competition with the improvement of new endovascular techniques. The aim of this work is to compare the two revascularization techniques in terms of efficacy, morbidity and mortality, which is based on a retrospective study of 50 cases of long FSA occlusions treated either by surgical treatment or by endovascular, at the vascular surgery department of Avicenna military hospital in Marrakech during the period between January 2014 to December 2016. The mean age of our patients was higher in the endovascular treatment group compared to the surgical treatment group, (68.5 years versus 62.3) respectively, we noted a male predominance in both groups. Critical lower extremity ischaemia was the most common reason for consultation in both groups: 76.7% in the endovascular treatment group and 80% in the surgical treatment group. All the patients had received the necessary explorations to assess the lesion as well as the extension of the atherosclerotic disease. The technique was successful in 100% of cases, without any major postoperative complications or death, the average length of hospital stay was lower in the endovascular treatment group: one day compared to 4 days in the surgical treatment group. The primary and secondary patency at 12 months were similar in the two groups (73.3% versus 75%) and (83.3% versus 85%) respectively. Thanks to the improvement of endovascular techniques, the management of long occlusions of the superficial femoral artery therefore appears to be an attractive alternative to surgical treatment, more particularly for patients with high surgical risk and presenting numerous comorbidities.

Abstract

Our initial intention was to use point geochemical data in relation to regional and/or local geology to identify and quantify the mineral potential of these Paleozoic formations, and the nature of the soil in relation to weathering by external climatic agents. The mineralogical study of the substrates proved to be essential to confirm the results of the spot sampling by channel sampling of the mineralized structures. From there, it was decided to focus on structural geology, regional tectonics, geochemistry, geomorphology, and the extension of veins from other deposits around this site. Because it is located at the Ordovician-Devonian contact, the copper mineralization at the future Imi Nisk mine site in the Central High Atlas has been interpreted in terms of sulfides-rich cluster deposits (Chalcopyrite, Azurite and Covellite) in Ankerite or siderite, and quartzite. The new structural and mineralogical data presented in this work favor the hypothesis of epigenetic mineralization, meaning that it was formed after the host rock. The present work consists in establishing a preliminary research in order to give a general idea and a very precise overview of the gitology, geology and geochemistry of the mineralized structures and veins located in this research permit in mining exploration of Imi Nisk. Also, no study has been published in this thematic on this site.

Abstract

Khenifra region is rich in geological resources, which attracted a lot of investment, especially the quarrying. The Grou River watershed contains a lot of quarries of alluvial material extraction which causes negative impacts on its environment such as landscape modification, water quality degradation, dust emission and, soil erosion. The evaluation of water quality by measuring physicochemical parameters showed a deterioration of its quality in the downstream area compared to the upstream area. To respond to this situation, we suggest a set of mitigation measure and propose the respect of monitoring and surveillance plans.

20. Permian volcanism of the Khenifra Massif (Central Morocco) Petrography and geochemical affinity

Abstract

The Permian volcanic complex of Khenifra (Moroccan Central Hercynian Massif) manifests itself mainly by volcanic rocks of andesite, rhyolite, dacite, rhyodacite, ignimbrite and trachyte nature. These are rocks with a microlitic to porphyritic texture. They are formed by a primary paragenesis made of plagioclase, pyroxene, olivine, feldspar, biotite, amphibole and quartz and a secondary mineral association made of augite, calcite, chlorite and opaque. Intermediate and acidic rocks are widely represented in Khenifra basin. These facies are of calco-alkaline affinity.

Abstract

Pericardial hydatic cyst is rare even in endemic countries. We report a case of 69-year-old man with isolated pericardial hydatid cyst that presented an overall heart failure. Tran thoracic echocardiography and computed tomography are revealed the pericardial cystic mass. Surgical cystectomy was realized without cardiopulmonary bypass. In post-operative the patient received albendazole. He remained asymptomatic without recurrence during 18 months follow-up period.

Abstract

In 2008, we published the first set of guidelines for standardizing research in autophagy. Since then, this topic has received increasing attention, and many scientists have entered the field. Our knowledge base and relevant new technologies have also been expanding. Thus, it is important to formulate on a regular basis updated guidelines for monitoring autophagy in different organisms. Despite numerous reviews, there continues to be confusion regarding acceptable methods to evaluate autophagy, especially in multicellular eukaryotes. Here, we present a set of guidelines for investigators to select and interpret methods to examine autophagy and related processes, and for reviewers to provide realistic and reasonable critiques of reports that are focused on these processes. These guidelines are not meant to be a dogmatic set of rules, because the appropriateness of any assay largely depends on the question being asked and the system being used. Moreover, no individual assay is perfect for every situation, calling for the use of multiple techniques to properly monitor autophagy in each experimental setting. Finally, several core components of the autophagy machinery have been implicated in distinct autophagic processes (canonical and noncanonical autophagy), implying that genetic approaches to block autophagy should rely on targeting two or more autophagy-related genes that ideally participate in distinct steps of the pathway. Along similar lines, because multiple proteins involved in autophagy also regulate other cellular pathways including apoptosis, not all of them can be used as a specific marker for bona fide autophagic responses. Here, we critically discuss current methods of assessing autophagy and the information they can, or cannot, provide. Our ultimate goal is to encourage intellectual and technical innovation in the field.

Abstract

If $M$ is a simple module over a ring $R$ then, by the Schur's lemma, the endomorphism ring of $M$ is a division ring. However, the converse of this result does not hold in general, even when $R$ is artinian. In this short note, we consider perfect rings for which the converse assertion is true, and we show that these rings are exactly the primary decomposable ones.

Abstract

The authors report the successful removal of a paraganglioma associated with horseshoe kidney after preoperative embolization and two previous failed surgical attempts undergone in another center. Complete excision of the tumour was performed smoothly. Total blood loss was 205 ml and the surg-ical time was approximately 160 minutes. The posto-per-ative period was uneventful. Histological findings were of paraganglioma, and there was no surgical margin. This case emphasizes the necessity to include preoperative embolization in the manage-ment of difficult or inextirpable retro-peritoneal para-ganglioma and should be considered in difficult case.

Abstract

The distributional homogeneity of chemicals is a key parameter of solid pharmaceutical formulations. Indeed, it may affect the efficacy of the drug and consequently its safety. Chemical imaging offers a unique insight enabling the visualisation of the different constituents of a pharmaceutical tablet. It allows identifying ingredients poorly distributed offering the possibility to optimize the process parameters or to adapt characteristics of incoming raw materials to increase the final product quality. Among the available chemical imaging tools, Raman imaging is one of the most widely used since it offers a high spatial resolution with well-resolved peaks resulting in a high spectral specificity. However, Raman imaging suffers from sample autofluorescence and long acquisition times. Recently commercialised, laser direct infrared reflectance imaging (LDIR) is a quantum cascade laser (QCL) based imaging technique that offers the opportunity to rapidly analyse samples. In this study, a typical pharmaceutical formulation blend composed of two active pharmaceutical ingredients and three excipients was aliquoted at different mixing timepoints. The collected aliquots were tableted and analysed using both Raman and LDIR imaging. The distributional homogeneity indexes of one active ingredient image were then computed and compared. The results show that both techniques achieved similar conclusions. However, the analysis times were drastically different. While Raman imaging required a total analysis time of 4 h per tablet to obtain the distribution map of acetylsalicylic acid with a step size of 100 µm, it only took 7.5 min to achieve the same result with LDIR. The results obtained in the present study show that LDIR is a promising technique for the analysis of pharmaceutical formulations and that it could be a valuable tool when developing new pharmaceutical formulations.

28. Geophysical Characterization of Disturbances in the Phosphate Series of the OuladAbdoun, Morocco: Relationship with Atlasictectonics

Abstract

The sedimentary phosphates series from the Upper Maastricht to the Lutetion of the OuladAbdoun sedimentary basin is almost identical at the basin-scale. It is made up by alternation of either phosphate or non-phosphate sub-horizontal levels. The series was characterized by rhythmic sedimentation under the form of successive elementary sequences. On the other hand, the series of SidiChennaneis distinguished by the presence of local disturbances defined by the miners under the term "derangements". These "derangements", which are less frequent at other mining sites (MEA Lahrech, El Hlassa, Point A), are a notable problem during extraction and remain a real obstacle at phosphate mining sites. The morphology of these "derangements" is almost subcircular to subconical sinkholes and chaotic bodies of anarchical materials. They are fontis type paleokarsts, it is an amalgam of highly altered yellowish brecciated rusty material whose lithological nature reflects that of the surrounding series. They also reflect endokarst siliceous and ferruginous neoformedfacies in the empty spaces of the palaeokarst. The origin of the palaeokarstshasbeen linked to the presence of NE-SW trend faults that have favoured the alteration and dissolution of the gypsum and chalk facies of the Senonian. The regular spatial distribution of these fontisis well related to the regionalAtlasictectonics. This study aims to investigate these problems in its geological aspect, in order to characterize and understand their origin. The purpose of this work isto compare the results obtained by electric tomography, gravimetry and lineament mapping and match them with geological data to draw a meaningful conclusion on the existence of these disturbances and their spatial distribution in relation to tectonic.

Abstract

Resume Les osteochondromes ou exostoses osseuses sont des tumeurs osseuses frequemment retrouvees chez les adolescents ou jeunes adultes. Souvent de decouverte fortuite, exceptionnellement par une complication vasculo-nerveuse. Nous rapportons le cas d’un patient ou l’exostose a ete revelee par une ischemie aigue du membre inferieur. Il s’agit d’un patient de 22 ans sans facteur de risque cardiovasculaire qui s’est presente au service des urgences dans un tableau d’ischemie aigue du membre inferieur gauche tandis que l’examen clinique du membre controlateral etait sans anomalie. L’angioscanner a mis en evidence un anevrisme thrombose de l’artere poplitee sus-articulaire en regard d’une exostose de l’extremite inferieure du femur, sans lit d’aval. Un traitement chirurgical a ete preconise chez ce patient : une resection de l’anevrisme poplite thrombose associee a une suture termino-terminale de l’artere poplitee et une resection de l’exostose osseuse.

30. A Solitary Fibrous Tumor of the Pleura Revealed by Hiccups

Abstract

Solitary fibrous tumors of the pleura are rare and benign primary localized tumors; they possess a malignant potential and thus should be excised. We report a case of a 43-year-old woman, who had suffered for 5 years from right basithoracic pain associated with progressive dyspnea and persistent hiccups during the last 6 months. We have not found any similar case in the literature. Further testing after excision by thoracotomy revealed a solitary fibrous pleural tumor. A brief discussion of the clinical presentation and incidence of these tumors is included.

Abstract

We consider a mathematical model describing the quasi-static process of contact between a thermo-electroviscoelastic body and a rigid foundation. The contact is described by Signorini’s conditions. The variational formulation leads to a coupled system for the displacement filed, the electric potential and the temperature. The existence of weak solution is proved by using an abstract results for parabolic variational equalities, strongly monotone operators and Banach fixed point theorem. We also study the numerical approach to the problem using spatially semi-discrete and fully discrete finite elements schemes and derive error estimates on the approximate solutions

Abstract

Handheld Raman spectroscopy is actually booming. Recent devices improvements aim at addressing the usual Raman spectroscopy issues: fluorescence with shifted‐excitation Raman difference spectroscopy (SERDS), poor sensitivity with surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and information only about the sample surface with spatially offset Raman spectroscopy (SORS). While qualitative performances of handheld devices are generally well established, the quantitative analysis of pharmaceutical samples remains challenging. The aim of this study was to compare the quantitative performances of three commercially available handheld Raman spectroscopy devices. Two of them (TruScan and IDRaman mini) are equipped with a 785 nm laser wavelength and operate in a conventional backscattering mode. The IDRaman has the Orbital Raster Scanning (ORS) option to increase the analyzed surface. The third device (Resolve) operates with an 830 nm laser wavelength both in backscattering and in SORS modes. The comparative study was carried out on ibuprofen-mannitol-microcrystalline cellulose ternary mixtures. The concentration of ibuprofen ranged from 24 to 52% (w/w) while the proportions of the two excipients were varied to avoid cross-correlation as much as possible. Analyses were performed either directly through a glass vial or with the glass vial in an opaque polypropylene flask, using a validated FT-NIR spectroscopy method as a reference method. Chemometric analyses were carried out with the Partial Least Squares Regression (PLS-R) algorithm. The quantitative models were validated using the total error approach and the ICH Q2 (R1) guidelines with ± 15% as acceptance limits.

38. Landslide Susceptibility Mapping: A Comparison between Logistic Regression and Multivariate Adaptive Regression Spline Models in the Municipality of Oudka, Northern of Morocco

Abstract

The logistic regression (LR) and multivariate adaptive regression spline (MarSpline) are applied and verified for analysis of landslide susceptibility map in Oudka, Morocco, using geographical information system. From spatial database containing data such as landslide mapping, topography, soil, hydrology and lithology, the eight factors related to landslides such as elevation, slope, aspect, distance to streams, distance to road, distance to faults, lithology map and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) were calculated or extracted. Using these factors, landslide susceptibility indexes were calculated by the two mentioned methods. Before the calculation, this database was divided into two parts, the first for the formation of the model and the second for the validation. The results of the landslide susceptibility analysis were verified using success and prediction rates to evaluate the quality of these probabilistic models. The result of this verification was that the MarSpline model is the best model with a success rate (AUC = 0.963) and a prediction rate (AUC = 0.951) higher than the LR model (success rate AUC = 0.918, rate prediction AUC = 0.901).

Abstract

Systemic vasculitis secondary to thyroid carcinomas is exceptional. We report the case of a 55-year-old woman who presented with systemic vasculitis involving leucocytoclastic cutaneous vasculitis and renal disorders secondary to papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). Her symptoms resolved completely after total thyroidectomy. Other causes of vasculitis were excluded. To our knowledge, this is only the second case reported of systemic vasculitis associated with PTC in a paraneoplastic manner.

Abstract

This work reports new experimental density data (954 points) for binary mixtures of 1-heptanol + heptane over the composition range (seven compositions; 0 ⩽ 1-heptanol mole fraction x ⩽ 1), between 298.15 and 393.15 K, and for 23 pressures from 0.1 MPa up to 140 MPa. An Anton Paar vibrating tube densimeter, calibrated with an uncertainty of ±0.7 kg · m−3 was used to perform these measurements. The experimental density data were fitted with a Tait-like equation with low standard deviations. Excess volumes have been calculated from the experimental data. In addition, the isobaric thermal expansivity and the isothermal compressibility have been derived from the Tait-like equation, provided as supplementary material .

Abstract

The phosphate series of the basin of Oulad Abdoun begins in Maastrichtian with phosphate deposits relatively very marly. It ends at the Lutetian by a calcareous slab. Derangement is any disruption of the usual succession of the phosphate series and that which disrupts the evolution of the kinematic chain, leading to a decrease in production and profitability. In this case, we have a partially disturbed series and the disturbance consists of all the elements of the series (limestone, flint, marls and phosphate). The present work has been carried out in two ways: The present work has been carried out in two ways: The first one, purely geological, consists of the identification of the different layers of the Ouled Abdoun basin in the El Halassa site and their continuity to the outcrop. At the end of these observations, the basin shows derangement of two kinds: a disturbance on the scale of the whole series known as major disturbance, and a second which affects only part of the series. Thus, it is a minor or local disturbance. The second one, geophysics, is the application of three geophysical methods: electric tomography, magnetism, and refraction seismic. The correlation of these applications should result in delineating the mineralized zone and tracking all elements that in one way or another affect this mineralization. These elements are referred to as "derangement". The combination of the results of these two methods (vertical electrical survey and tomography) used allowed us to identify and map the disturbed places in the chosen area of El Halassa. The study will be extended to other sites and the results can be compared and correlated to understand the extent and origin of these disturbances.

44. Carence en B12 chez le sujet âgé de plus de 75 ans: à propos de 22 cas

Abstract

Introduction La carence en vitamine B12 est une pathologie frequente surtout chez le sujet âge, responsable d’anomalies hematologiques, digestives et neurologiques. Nous nous sommes proposes d’etudier le profil geriatrique de la carence en vitamine B12 au service de medecine interne du CHU Ibn Sina de Rabat. Patients et methodes Il s’agit d’une etude retrospective, ayant porte sur les patients âges de plus de 75 ans extraits d’une cohorte de 206 patients suivis pour une carence en cobalamine entre janvier 2000 et aout 2014. Resultats Vingt-deux patients âges sont inclus dont 11 femmes, d’âge moyen au moment du diagnostic de 83 ans (78–110). Le delai diagnostic est de 5 mois (1–13) en moyenne. La carence est revelee par un syndrome anemique dans les 22 cas associe a une symptomatologie gastrique dans 19 cas (86 %), une atteinte neuropsychiatrique dans 6 cas (27 %) dont une demence, un syndrome hemorragique dans 6 cas, un syndrome infectieux dans 1 cas. A l’hemogramme, l’hemoglobine moyenne est de 6,2 g/dL (3,6–10,1) avec des reticulocytes a 36,105/mm3 (4100–80 910); un taux moyen de leucocyte de 4477 (2180–9300), le VGM moyen est de 116 fl (82–147), les plaquettes a 107 544/mm3 (14 000–268 000). L’analyse biologique objective 8 cas de pancytopenie (36 %), 8 cas de bicytopenie (36 %) et 4 cas d’anemie isolee (18 %). Aucun cas de pseudomat n’est retrouve. Le taux de vitamine B12 moyen est de 78 ng/mL (54–146) et une carence en folate est retrouvee chez 2 patients. Un myelogramme fait chez 14 patients retrouve une megaloblastose dans tous les cas; aucun syndrome myelodysplasique associe. Le dosage des anticorps est realise chez 17 malades (77 %) objectivant des anticorps anti-cellules parietales chez 7 patients, des anticorps anti-facteur intrinseque chez 4 patients. Ils sont negatifs chez 8 patients. La fibroscopie est realisee chez 15 patients (68 %) montrant une gastrite atrophique dans tous les cas, et une infection par HP dans 1 cas. Dans 3 cas, une maladie auto-immune est notee: 2 cas d’anemie hemolytique auto-immune et un cas de vitiligo. Le diagnostic de maladie de Biermer est retenu dans 9 cas (41 %); de non-dissociation de vitamine B12 dans 8 cas (36 %). Le traitement a consiste en une recharge en vitamine B12 en sous-cutane dans 100 % des cas; associe au fer dans 5 cas et a la vitamine B9 dans 2 cas. Une crise reticulocytaire est survenue en moyenne a j12 (j7–j20) du traitement avec normalisation de l’hemogramme et amelioration de la symptomatologie clinique. Conclusion Cette etude de 22 observations de carence en cobalamine met en exergue les differentes manifestations de cette pathologie responsable d’une morbidite importante chez le sujet âge. La presentation clinique est extremement variee responsable d’un retard diagnostic.

Abstract

Objectives Surveillance programmes for occupational asthma should reduce the severity of asthma both at the time of diagnosis and after removal from exposure as well as costs related to functional impairment. The aim of this study was to compare the severity and cost of diisocyanate-induced occupational asthma in workers participating in a surveillance programme and in twice the number of workers diagnosed after being referred by their physician. Methods Answers to a self-administered questionnaire led to possible referral for further assessment that included methacholine testing and specific inhalation challenges as the gold standard for confirming occupational asthma. Results Of the 2897 workers who participated, 182 (6.3%) had a positive questionnaire. 79/182 (43%) were referred for further medical assessment and 20 had confirmed occupational asthma by specific inhalation testing. At the time of diagnosis, the 20 screened subjects had a mean PC 20 of 3.35 mg/ml as compared to 1.50 mg/ml (p=0.05) in the 66 controls. Two years after diagnosis and removal from exposure, the 20 subjects screened had a mean PC 20 of 4.81 mg/ml compared to 1.67 mg/ml (p=0.03) in controls. Clinical remission occurred in 34% of the screened group compared to 16% of the control group (p=0.02). The median costs for functional impairment were $C11 900 in screened subjects and $C19 600 in controls (p=0.04). Conclusions Subjects with occupational asthma screened by a medical surveillance programme have a better outcome both at the time of diagnosis and 2 years after removal from exposure, with lower compensation costs compared to controls.

Abstract

Background: The Argane tree (Argania spinosa L. Skeels) is an endemic tree of southwestern Morocco that plays an important socioeconomic and ecologic role for a dense human population in an arid zone. Several studies confirmed the importance of this species as a food and feed source and as a resource for both pharmaceutical and cosmetic compounds. Unfortunately, the argane tree ecosystem is facing significant threats from environmental changes (global warming, over-population) and over-exploitation. Limited research has been conducted, however, on argane tree genetics and genomics, which hinders its conservation and genetic improvement. Methods: Here, we present a draft genome assembly of A. spinosa. A reliable reference genome of A. spinosa was created using a hybrid de novo assembly approach combining short and long sequencing reads. Results: In total, 144 Gb Illumina HiSeq reads and 7.2 Gb PacBio reads were produced and assembled. The final draft genome comprises 75 327 scaffolds totaling 671 Mb with an N50 of 49 916 kb. The draft assembly is close to the genome size estimated by k-mers distribution and covers 89% of complete and 4.3 % of partial Arabidopsis orthologous groups in BUSCO. Conclusion: The A. spinosa genome will be useful for assessing biodiversity leading to efficient conservation of this endangered endemic tree. Furthermore, the genome may enable genome-assisted cultivar breeding, and provide a better understanding of important metabolic pathways and their underlying genes for both cosmetic and pharmacological purposes.

Abstract

International audience; Undoped and cerium doped zinc oxide thin films have been prepared by spray pyrolysis technique. The influence of Ce as doping agent on the optical and nonlinear optical properties was carefully investigated using transmission, X-ray diffraction, photoluminescence, atomic force microscopy (AFM), and third harmonic generation (THG). It has been found a deep correlation between the surface roughness and the optical properties. In fact the roughness deteriorates the luminescence and nonlinear response, in a sense that the highest luminescence intensity and nonlinear susceptibility χ(3) are obtained for the smoothest layer.Doped layers are characterized with a high visible luminescence, attributed to cerium transitions, and susceptibilities in the range of 6.38 × 10−13 esu.

Abstract

Resume Introduction Les anevrismes de l’artere hepatique sont rares. Le diagnostic est souvent fait au stade de rupture, avec une importante mortalite. Observations Une patiente âgee de 70 ans souffrait de vomissements et de douleurs de l’hypocondre droit. A l’echographie, un anevrisme asymptomatique de l’artere hepatique a ete diagnostique. Le traitement a consiste en une mise a plat de l’anevrisme suivi d’un pontage splenohepatique droit avec une evolution postoperatoire satisfaisante. Le second cas concerne un patient de 54 ans, pour lequel le diagnostic d’un anevrisme de l’artere hepatique droite a ete fait au stade de rupture dans la vesicule biliaire. Discussion A la lumiere de ces 2 cas et des donnees de la litterature, nous analysons l’incidence, les causes, les moyens diagnostiques et therapeutiques de cette affection.

Abstract

We have deposited zinc oxide (ZnO) and erbium doped zinc oxide (ZnO:Er) thin films on heated glass substrates using spray pyrolysis technique. The effect of erbium dopant on structural, morphological, luminescent and nonlinear optical properties was studied. The deposited films have been analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), ex situ compositional analysis (ESCA), profilometry, cathodoluminescence (CL) and third harmonic generation (THG) measurements. All films were polycrystalline, having a preferential growth orientation along the ZnO (0 0 2) plane, with a corresponding average crystallite size of less than 41 nm. Addition of erbium can effectively control the film surface morphology and its cathodoluminescent properties. The films containing low erbium concentration show a uniform surface covered with hexagonal shaped grains and a strong UV light emission intensity as well as TH response. In contrast, when the erbium doping ratio exceeds 3%, a porous surface with columnar textural growth becomes more pronounced, and a substantial reduction of the cathodoluminescent and TH response. A strong TH signal was obtained for the film with good crystalline quality at the concentration of 2%. Third order nonlinear optical susceptibility ( χ 〈3〉 ) values of the studied materials were in the remarkable range of 10 −12 esu.

Resume Propos L'atteinte des troncs supra-aortiques dans la maladie de Takayasu realise souvent des lesions diffuses et complexes inaccessibles au traitement endovasculaire. La chirurgie occupe par consequent une place importante dans la prise en charge de l'ischemie cerebrale dans cette maladie. Le but de ce travail est de preciser les indications et les techniques chirurgicales en cas d'atteinte des arteres a destinee encephalique dans cette maladie et d'exposer nos resultats. Materiel et methodes Nous rapportons une serie de sept cas de maladie de Takayasu avec atteinte des arteres carotides extracrâniennes traites chirurgicalement dans le service de chirurgie vasculaire de l'hopital Ibn-Sina de Rabat sur une periode de 11 ans. Resultats Il s'agit de six femmes et un homme d'âge moyen au moment du diagnostic de 33,8 ans. Les signes revelateurs etaient essentiellement d'ordre neurologique et oculaire. Six de nos patients etaient en poussee inflammatoire au moment du diagnostic, et ont necessite un traitement medical premier a base de corticoides. Il a ete realise une revascularisation carotidienne bilaterale dans trois cas, unilaterale dans quatre cas. L'axe donneur etait l'aorte ascendante dans six cas et le tronc arteriel brachiocephalique dans un cas. Un deces en rapport avec une hemorragie cerebrale est survenu deux jours apres la revascularisation. Une nette amelioration des signes fonctionnels etait notee chez trois patients, alors que l'amelioration etait partielle chez deux autres. Une thrombose secondaire du pontage est survenue dans trois cas. Conclusion L'histoire naturelle de la maladie de Takayasu et son evolution sont mal connues. Les indications operatoires ne doivent pas reposer uniquement sur le seul bilan anatomique, mais basees sur un faisceau d'arguments dans lesquels, l'evaluation du debit sanguin cerebral serait utile. Le syndrome d'hyperperfusion cerebrale constitue un risque majeur qui peut etre reduit par des revascularisations par etapes.
