RESUMO Este artigo toma à análise a inserção profissional de egressos do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação (PPGE) da Universidade Federal do Amazonas (Ufam), no período 2012–2020, no bojo de um processo de autoavaliação. Por meio da revisão de literatura e do mapeamento dos destinos profissionais (trabalho com Currículo Lattes e survey), o texto retraça os processos de desenvolvimento da pós-graduação na Região Norte, sua relação com a avaliação promovida pela Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior, bem como a inserção laboral dos egressos do PPGE/Ufam. Destacam-se os impactos da pós-graduação para a formação de professores e pesquisadores para a educação básica e superior e ainda os desafios enfrentados para formar e inserir mestres e doutores nessa latitude, entre os quais a manutenção do elo com os egressos e as publicações dos resultados de suas investigações. A autoavaliação, particularmente com foco no acompanhamento de egressos, portanto, permite refletir sobre os efeitos dos processos formativos desenvolvidos pelo programa com base nos resultados alcançados pelos seus ex-alunos.

Background: Capsaicin, a bioactive compound found in peppers, is recognized for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-lipidemic properties. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of capsaicin on atherosclerosis progression. Methods: Apolipoprotein E knockout mice and their C57BL/6 controls were utilized to assess blood lipid profile, inflammatory status, and atherosclerotic lesions. We also examined the influence of capsaicin on cholesterol influx and efflux, and the role of TRPV1 and PPARγ signaling pathways in bone marrow-derived macrophages. Results: Capsaicin treatment reduced weight gain, visceral adiposity, blood triglycerides, and total and non-HDL cholesterol. These improvements were associated with a reduction in atherosclerotic lesions in the aorta and carotid. Capsaicin also improved hepatic oxidative and inflammatory status. Systemic inflammation was also reduced, as indicated by reduced leukocyte rolling and adhesion on the mesenteric plexus. Capsaicin decreased foam cell formation by reducing cholesterol influx through scavenger receptor A and increasing cholesterol efflux via ATP-binding cassette transporter A1, an effect primarily linked to TRPV1 activation. Conclusions: These findings underscore the potential of capsaicin as a promising agent for atherosclerosis prevention, highlighting its comprehensive role in modulating lipid metabolism, foam cell formation, and inflammatory responses.

O presente artigo objetiva investigar a importância da educação libertadora em contextos marcados por vulnerabilidade e ausência do Estado, tendo como base a experiência do Acervo da Laje, situado no Subúrbio Ferroviário de Salvador-BA. Em diálogo com estudiosos da educação e do pensamento popular, inscritos no campo das epistemologias do Sul, discutimos o papel da cultura popular (sistematicamente relegada à posição periférica e subalterna), com seu inesgotável repertório de outros saberes, memórias e criações, como via de insurgência e libertação social, de maneira a possibilitar a formação de cidadãos críticos e participativos na sociedade. O foco principal desta pesquisa é investigar a efetividade educacional das ações culturais promovidas pelo Acervo da Laje, que se propõem a compartilhar conhecimentos e experiências junto aos moradores suburbanos, tendo como principal referência existencial a vida dentro do território, sem distinção de formação ideológica, acadêmica ou de qualquer ordem. A pesquisa que resultou neste trabalho é de cunho qualitativo, com abordagem teórico-metodológica fenomenológica, de caráter exploratório. A entrada no campo empírico se deu a partir de um trabalho solicitado numa disciplina como aluno especial, e a partir desse primeiro contato foi realizado o anteprojeto que consolidou minha entrada no programa de mestrado Educação e Contemporaneidade (UNEB).

Abstract This prospective cohort longitudinal study examines the risk factors associated with different intrauterine environments and the influence of different intrauterine environments on children’s motor development at 3- and 6-months of life. Participants were 346 mother/newborn dyads enrolled in the first 24 to 48 h after delivery in public hospitals. Four groups with no concurrent condition composed the sample: mothers with a clinical diagnosis of diabetes, mothers with newborns small for gestational age due to idiopathic intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), mothers who smoked tobacco during gestation, and a control group composed of mothers without clinical condition. Children were assessed at three- and six-months regarding motor development, weight, length, head circumference, and parents completed a socioeconomic questionnaire. The IUGR children had lower supine, sitting, and overall gross motor scores at 6 months than the other children’s groups. Anthropometric and sociodemographic characteristics negatively influenced gross motor development. IUGR and anthropometric and sociodemographic characteristics negatively impact motor development. Intrauterine environment impact child neurodevelopment.

El objetivo del trabajo fue validar un instrumento para la evaluación de las competencias esenciales en los Juegos deportivos colectivos. El trabajo se trata de una investigación descriptiva, con características cualitativas y cuantitativas. Utilizamos especialistas para validar el contenido de los indicadores desarrollados. El instrumento fue evaluado respecto a claridad del lenguaje, relevancia práctica, relevancia teórica y dimensión teórica. Los datos fueron recolectados y sometidos a análisis estadístico del coeficiente de validez de contenido (CVC) para determinar la validación del contenido. Los resultados muestran medias por encima del punto de corte (0.80) en todos los criterios. El CVCc-total de claridad del lenguaje fue 0.80, de relevancia teórica el índice fue 0.89, de relevancia práctica 0.90 y de dimensión teórica el valor encontrado fue 0.45. Concluimos que el contenido de los indicadores, en relación al CVCc-total, alcanzó valores satisfactorios, obteniendo valores iguales o mayores al punto de corte, demostrando que los indicadores están bien fundamentados en teoría y tienen la capacidad de evaluar los juegos deportivos colectivos en función de las competencias básicas.

Abstract Objectives: to evaluate the influence of perception of care and maternal protection on breastfeeding practices on the infants’ third month of life. Methods: longitudinal study with mother-infant pairs distributed in five groupsof gestational clinical conditions. The recruitment occurred in the period 2011 to 2016 at three hospitals in the public health systems in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The Parental Bonding Instrument and the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale were assessed. Exclusive and prolonged breastfeeding were analyzed by questionnaires. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA with Tukey’s post-hoc test, Kruskal-Wallis with Dunn’s post-hoc test, or Pearson’s chi-squared test. The significance was set at 5%. Results: 209 mother-infant pairs were investigated. Among those who did not practice breastfeeding, a lower perception of care, a higher perception of maternal protection, and a higher score of postpartum depression were observed (p=0.022, p=0.038, and p0.05). Conclusions: the perception of care and maternalprotection and the postpartum depressive symptomatology influenced breastfeeding at three months. It is possible to assume a transgenerational effect on breastfeeding, suggesting the existence of a complex model related to mental health in a sample of women who had different backgrounds of gestational clinical conditions

Abstract Introduction Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in the world. For every person who commits suicide, twenty or more have attempted to take their own lives. The emotional state of anger is often associated with suicidal behavior. However, this association needs to be further clarified. Objectives This study sought to investigate the profiles of traits and expressions of anger in inpatients admitted to a general emergency hospital after surviving a suicide attempt. Methods In this case-control study, a sample of 28 suicide survivors was matched for sex, age, and educational level with 56 controls. The State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory-2 was used to measure anger traits and expression. Results Suicide survivors scored higher for anger traits and expression and lower for anger control than the control group. They also had lower levels of state anger and willingness to express anger verbally than the control group. Conclusions Patients who attempted suicide and had high scores for anger expression (in and out) are inclined to have extreme difficulty in interpersonal relationships and rigidity towards change and are at higher risk of developing psychopathologies.

Este trabalho, recorte de uma pesquisa maior acerca da configuração do samba de roda, objetiva discutir a poesia oral do samba de roda do Grupo Pinote, com ênfase nas cantigas de batuque. A análise que propomos se pauta nos aspectos formais, temáticos e performáticos das cantigas, com o intuito de entender os jogos de estilo e de sentido construídos pelos sambadores, em uma poética em que corpos, vozes e percussão amalgamam a existência de um coletivo e sua relação com o público, no seio ontológico da roda de samba. O escopo teórico que embasa o nosso trabalho enlaça as discussões de: Zumthor (1993, 2010, 2014), Silva (2014) e Fernandes (2007, Araújo (2015) e Santana (2014), o Dossiê do samba de roda do Recôncavo Baiano (BRASIL, 2006), Döring (2016), e Exdell (2017). Os pressupostos metodológicos deste trabalho pautaram-se na Etnometodologia, na perspectiva de Haguette (2010) e Watson e Gestaldo (2015). Como procedimento de análise das cantigas, amparamo-nos na Análise de Conteúdo, a partir de Franco (2008).

Abstract Background Evidences suggest that early processed food (PF) consumption may cause harm to infant health. During the first 6 months of life, it is not known whether the timing and quantity of this food group can impact breastfeeding and growth. The aim of the study was to analyze the associations between time of introduction and quantity of infant PF consumption with duration of breastfeeding and infant growth at 6 months of age. Methods Data were longitudinally collected in six interviews, from birth to 6 months, in a sample of Brazilian newborns with adverse intrauterine environments. PF consumption was calculated by gravity score of processed foods (GSPF) in relation to feeding supply quality and time. For the analysis, the scores were divided into tertiles, making scores severities: Null, Mild, Moderate, and Severe. The interaction between GSPF and breastfeeding (exclusive and non-exclusive) and growth parameters (analyzed in Z-scores, by weight for height, weight for age, and body mass index for age) was tested. Results A total of 236 infants were included in the study. Greater GSPF were associated with better rates of breastfeeding practices and higher growth indicators scores in the sixth month of infants. These findings were confirmed after adjustment for family income, maternal age, pre-gestational body mass index, and growth z scores at birth. Conclusion The harms of eating PF in relation to breastfeeding and infant growth are more evident the greater and earlier they are consumed. Future studies should explore interventions to reduce and delay the consumption of these foods to prevent adverse health outcomes in later life.

This work proposes a mathematical solution for the attitude control problem of an ornithopter wing. An ornithopter is an artificial bird or insect-like aerial vehicle whose flight and lift movements are produced and maintained by flapping wings. The aerodynamical drag forces responsible for the flying movements are generated by the wing attitude and torques applied to its joints. This mechanical system represents a challenging problem because its dynamics consist of MIMO nonlinear equations with couplings in the input variables. For dealing with such a mathematical model, an Active Disturbance Rejection Control-based (ADRC) method is considered. The cited control technique has been studied for almost two decades and its main characteristics are the use of an extended state observer to estimate the nonmeasurable signals of the plant and a state-feedback control law in standard form fed by that observer. However, even today, the application of the basic methodology requires the exact knowledge of the plant’s control gain which is difficult to measure in the case of systems with uncertain parameters. In addition, most of the related works apply the ADRC strategy to Single Input Single Output (SISO) plants. For MIMO systems, the control gain is represented by a square matrix of general entries but most of the reported works consider the simplified case of uncoupled inputs, in which a diagonal matrix is assumed. In this paper, an extension of the ADRC SISO strategy for MIMO systems is proposed. By adopting such a control methodology, the resulting closed-loop scheme exhibits some key advantages: (i) it is robust to parametric uncertainties; (ii) it can compensate for external disturbances and unmodeled dynamics; (iii) even for nonlinear plants, mathematical analysis using Laplace’s approach can be always used; and (iv) it can deal with system’s coupled input variables. A complete mathematical model for the dynamics of the ornithopter wing system is presented. The efficiency of the proposed control is analyzed mathematically, discussed, and illustrated via simulation results of its application in the attitude control of ornithopter wings.

A tuberculose bovina é uma doença de caráter mundial. Sendo uma das principais zoonoses identificadas em abatedouros frigoríficos. As perdas econômicas estão relacionadas à baixa produtividade, queda na conversão alimentar, reprodução e à condenação de carcaças em matadouros, por isso, os métodos de controle desta enfermidade no Brasil são definidos pelas normativas do Programa Nacional de Controle e Erradicação da Brucelose e da Tuberculose Animal (PNCEBT), instituído em 2001 pelo Ministério da Agricultura, Pecuária e Abastecimento. Esse programa envolve a detecção e abate de animais reagentes, com base no teste intradérmico, que se baseia na reação de hipersensibilidade provocada pela inoculação do antígeno micobacteriano. O objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar um estudo retrospectivo do percentual de condenações de carcaças de bovinos em abatedouros frigoríficos do estado do Maranhão com base em acesso ao Sistema de Informações Gerenciais dos Serviços de Inspeção Federal e levantamento de dados de casos de tuberculose bovina em relatórios mensais de coleta de médicos veterinários autônomos habilitados no PNCEBT. Os dados encontrados por este estudo demonstra a importância da doença em âmbito estadual, Sendo que as condenações de carcaça em abatedouros frigoríficos no período de Janeiro de 2013 a Dezembro de 2018 foi de 75 condenações com destinação a graxaria, representado uma prevalência de 0,003% e os dados de casos de tuberculose bovina em mapas mensais de médicos veterinários autônomos habilitados no PNCEBT referente ao período de 2013 a 2018 foi de 20 animais positivos no total 207.557 animais examinados com prevalência de 0,009% Embora os dados de prevalência serem baixos, podemos afirmar que a doença é endêmica no Maranhão em virtude da ausência de um inquérito sorológico estadual sobre a doença. Conclui-se que a tuberculose bovina possui grande importância zoosanitária no estado do Maranhão.

Percutaneous procedures through femoral access in patients with inferior vena cava (IVC) filter may be at risk of complications. We evaluated the feasibility and safety of left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) through femoral access in patients previously implanted with IVC filter. We described the WatchmanTM device implantation in two patients with formal contraindication for oral anticoagulation. First patient had a GreenfieldTM filter and the second one an OpteaseTM filter, and in this patient an attempt to withdrawal the filter immediately before the LAAC procedure failed. A femoral approach was performed in both patients using a 14 Fr sheath. Before crossing IVC filters, venographies did not detect any thrombus. All steps of IVC filter crossing were performed under fluoroscopic guidance. No immediate or intrahospital complications related to the procedure occurred. Herein, we presented two cases of successful LAAC closure with Watchman device in patients with two different kinds of IVC filters.

Abstract Objective Different intrauterine environments may influence the maternal prepregnancy body weight (BW) variation up to 6 months postpartum. The objective of the present study was to verify the association of sociodemographic, obstetric, nutritional, and behavioral factors with weight variation in women divided into four groups: hypertensive (HM), diabetic (DM), smokers (SM), and control mothers (CM). Methods It was a convenience sample of 124 postpartum women recruited from 3 public hospitals in the city of Porto Alegre, state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, between 2011 and 2016.Multiple linear regressions and generalized estimating equations (GEE) were conducted to identify the factors associated with maternal weight variation. For all GEE, the maternal weight measurements were adjusted for maternal height, parity, educational level, and the type of delivery, and 3 weight measurements (prepregnancy, preceding delivery, and 15 days postpartum) were fixed. Results A hierarchical model closely associated the maternal diagnosis of hypertension and a prepregnancy body mass index (BMI) classified as overweight with maternal weight gain measured up to the 6th month postpartum (the difference between the maternal weight at 6months postpartum and the prepregnancy weight). These results showed that the BW of the HM group and of overweight women increased ~ 5.2 kg 6 months postpartum, compared with the other groups. Additionally, women classified as overweight had a greater BW variation of 3.150 kg. Conclusion This evidence supports the need for specific nutritional guidelines for gestational hypertensive disorders, as well as great public attention for overweight women in the fertile age.

ABSTRACT Objectives: To assess the results of a brief antibullying intervention for adolescents in public schools. Method: This was a controlled experimental study whose subjects were 1,043 students in 5th through 9th grades from public schools in Porto Alegre/State of Rio Grande do Sul, conducted between April and November 2015. Adolescents and school teachers randomly assigned to the intervention group participated in two meetings focused on educative aspects of bullying. Outcome was assessed using the Bullying Questionnaire - victim and perpetrator version. Generalized Estimating Equations was used to evaluate the effect of the intervention. Results: Average age of subjects was 12.5 (SD=1.62) years. A total of 613 (58.7%) adolescents participated in interventions. They were compared to 430 (41.3%) participants in the control group. The study did not observe any significant difference in bullying scores after the intervention. Conclusions: This study indicates the usefulness of clarifying precisely what bullying is in schools as part of an initial approach to an educative strategy on this topic.

Abstract Angiostrongylus vasorum is a pulmonary artery parasite of domestic and wild canid. On molluscs, intermediate host, first stage larvae (L1) are found after the first day of infection, in the 8th L2 and in the 30 th L3. It was evaluated L1, L2 and L3 recovered by Baermann technique from Achatina fulica infected with 1000 L1. Fifty larvae/stage were incubated with antibodies anti-β-tubulin, anti-α-tubulin, anti- α-actin, anti-β-actin and anti-collagen, and then with Alexa 633. Fifty larvae/stage were observed with picrosirius red and Oil Red O. It was also observed in the anterior region of L1 the beginning of the chitinous stems development, in the initial portion of the intestine and genital primordium. In L2 anterior region, the papillae, chitinous canes juxtaposed to the mouth and intestines bigger than L1. The L3 musculature is well defined, next to the chitinous stems, there are two round distally arranged from each other. It was observed the whole extension of the intestine genital primordium and intense cellularity in the L3 distal portion. With the picrosirius red the L1, L2 and L3 musculature could be observed, as the nerve ganglia on L3. Oil Red O revealed that L1, L2 and L3 store energy on lipid droplets.

Este estudo discute a importância da narrativa literária na constituição do sujeito e analisa, em uma perspectiva discursiva, textos multissemióticos produzidos a partir da leitura de contos de Machado de Assis, a fim de averiguar a posição axiológica dos adolescentes, seu olhar sobre si e o outro, seus hábitos culturais, seus posicionamentos ideológico-políticos, seus traços identitários, seus sonhos e utopias. Esse projeto de leitura, realizado com alunos de Ensino Médio, remete a uma perspectiva possível de escolarização da literatura, capaz de promover autoconhecimento, participação ativa, crítica e criativa de jovens, favorecendo a diversidade, a aprendizagem significativa e colocando o professor como mediador do processo.

Numerical estimation is one of the basic numerical skills associated with subsequent mathematical performance, however it has been poorly explored within deaf population. This is the first study that has analyzed this kind of performance through numerical estimation tasks, in order to define which model of representation is better adjusted with such performance. Participants were 52 deaf students from Cali-Colombia and Porto Alegre-Brazil, from 1st to 4th grade of elementary school, who performed a number estimation task on the number line. The results shown differences between Brazilian and Colombian students. The latter displayed a more stable performance and were more accurate in their estimates than the Brazilian ones, mainly in the 1st grade. In addition, Colombian students shown a stronger tendency to use linear type representations for the task. For Brazilian students, greater increase of the accuracies was identified in higher grades and a greater variety of representations was used according to the numerical context. It is proposed that the factors of the sign language of each country as well as the pedagogical aspects may be influencing these differences, however, more studies are necessaries to improve these conclusions.

Abstract Background Current therapies for heart failure (HF) are followed by strategies to improve quality of life and exercise tolerance, besides reducing morbidity and mortality. Some HF patients present changes in the musculoskeletal system and inspiratory muscle weakness, which may be restored by inspiratory muscle training, thus increasing respiratory muscle strength and endurance, maximal oxygen uptake (VO2), functional capacity, respiratory responses to exercise, and quality of life. Yoga therapies have been shown to improve quality of life, inflammatory markers, and peak VO2 mostly in HF patients with a reduced ejection fraction. However, the effect of different yoga breathing techniques in patients showing HF with a preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) remain to be assessed. Methods/design A PROBE (prospective randomized open blinded end-point) parallel-group trial will be conducted at two specialized HF clinics. Adult patients previously diagnosed with HFpEF will be included. After signing informed consent and performing a pre-test intervention, patients will be randomized into three groups and provided with either (1) active yoga breathing techniques; (2) passive yoga breathing techniques (pranayama); or and (3) control (standard pharmacological treatment). Follow-up will last 8 weeks (16 sessions). The post-intervention tests will be performed at the end of the intervention period for analysis of outcomes. Interventions will occur continuously according to patients’ enrollment. The main outcome is respiratory muscular resistance. A total of 33 enrolled patients are expected. The present protocol followed the SPIRIT guidelines and fulfilled the SPIRIT checklist. Discussion This trial is probably the first to assess the effects of a non-pharmacological intervention, namely yoga and specific breathing techniques, to improve cardiorespiratory function, autonomic system, and quality of life in patients with HFpEF. Abstract This study compared the effects of two metacognitive interventions on writing, working memory (WM), and behavioral symptoms of students with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The disorder was clinically diagnosed by a multidisciplinary team according to DSM-IV criteria. The first approach consisted of a combined intervention in text production and WM while the second focused only on WM. Participants were 47 students from the fifth to ninth grades of two public elementary schools in Porto Alegre (Brazil), randomized to one of the two interventions groups. Writing and WM were assessed before, immediately after, and 3 months after the interventions. The results suggest that both interventions contributed to improving behavior and school performance, whereas only the combined intervention increased the overall quality of narrative text, organization of paragraphs, and denouement.

The Distance Education course, is an educative practice, which is consolidated in the world. The UNEMAT, part of the program PNAP, offers the Public Administration, a bachelor course, through Distance Board Education. The formation process in the Distance Education course is influenced by a whole series of factors that must be considered. This qualitative and quantitative research aimed to find out which factors are more influence to do the learners remain on course. As a result, we obtained a responsible and mature student profile belonging to low class and middle class, who relates well with the family, classmates and present tutors; that found several difficulties related to the geographical contexts, logistical and technological, but they overcame them, thought support of the family and motivation for a better life (professional and financial life) after conclusion of the course. As suggestion of improvement, we propose the adoption of teaching methods that solve the specificities, greater interaction with the teachers, the use of various communication mechanisms, UNEMAT’s political action for collect improvements in access to the poles and the implementation of the Institutional Evaluation at the end of each semester.

Abstract Purpose: To investigate the cellular response to injury, analyzing histopathologic changes associated with increased cellularity, degeneration and disorganization of collagen fibers. Methods: Thirty wistar rats were divided in two groups after partial Achilles tenotomy: the right hind paw were treated with the essential oil of Alpinia zerumbet (EOAz), diluted to 33% (0.3 mL kg-1), and the left hind paw received sunflower oil for 3, 14, 30 and 90 days. Statistical significance was determined using a Chi-square and Pearson Correlation qualitative variables test. Moreover, Mann-Whitney U-test test for comparison between different groups of the same cell, one-way ANOVA, and Tukey’s test of quantitative measurement. Results: A decrease hyperemia (p < 0.001) was observed in the acute phase of inflammatory cell number (p < 0.001), whereas sub-acute phase was marked by significant correlation with macrophages in fibroblasts (r = 0.17, p = 0.03), with probable induction a dense and modeled tissue. At chronic phase, it was found an increase in the number of fibroblasts and a higher percentage of type I collagen fibers (78%) compared with control collagen fibers (55%). Conclusion: Oil of Alpinia zerumbet stimulated the process of maturation, organization and tissue repair which gave it greater resistance.

Abstract Background Little is known about the interaction between gender and low birth weight (LBW) and lifelong social mobility as an explanation of the etiology of obesity. The aim of the present study was to evaluate total and central obesity according to gender, LBW and social mobility, within the context of the epidemiological transition in middle-income countries. We hypothesize that there are more pronounced metabolic consequences of social mobility for women born with LBW. Methods We used data from a birth cohort study conducted in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, Brazil. Data regarding anthropometric measurements, schooling and smoking status were collected at 23-25 years of age. Social mobility was determined based on maternal and adult offspring schooling and categorized as Low-Low, Low-High and High-High. Analysis of covariance was performed to assess the association between social mobility and body mass index (BMI) or waist circumference (WC) in adulthood, stratified by LBW and gender. Results Data on 6827 singleton pregnancies were collected at birth in 1978/79 and a sample was followed up in 2002/04. A total of 2063 subjects were included in the study. Mean age was 23.9 ± 0.7 years, 51.8% (n = 1068) were female and the LBW was 6.2% (n = 128). There was a triple interaction between social mobility, LBW and gender. Among women born without LBW, BMI and WC were higher in the Low-Low group compared to High-High schooling group. Among LBW women, BMI and WC were higher in the Low-Low group compared to the Low-High group. Conclusions Women born with LBW belonging to the low schooling group in early adulthood had high BMI and WC, compared to the Low-High social mobility group.

Estudos sobre a babesiose canina são escassos no Nordeste do Brasil, apesar das condições climáticas favoráveis ao desenvolvimento do carrapato vetor. Esta pesquisa objetivou determinar a ocorrência de Babesia vogeli em cães amostrados em Teresina, estado do Piauí, região Meio Norte do Brasil, através de métodos diretos e indiretos de diagnóstico, além de realizar análise filogenética das sequências 18S rRNA de piroplasmídeos obtidas no estudo. Foram avaliados 315 cães atendidos em clínicas veterinárias, sob qualquer suspeita clínica. Desses animais, foi colhido sangue por venopunção jugular para Reação de Imunofluorescência Indireta (RIFI) e Reação em Cadeia pela Polimerase (PCR). Além disso, esfregaços de sangue periférico foram realizados para pesquisa direta do parasita. A positividade dos animais foi de 2,2% (7/315) ao esfregaço sanguíneo, 4,8% (15/315) à PCR e 48,6% (153/315) à RIFI. O sequenciamento de amostras positivas à PCR resultou em um fragmento de 602 pb do gene 18S rRNA de piroplasmídeos, cujo alinhamento e análise da sequência revelaram 99% de homologia com isolados de B. vogeli de outras regiões do Brasil, além de outros países. É interessante ressaltar que, comparando isolados em diferentes estados do Nordeste, a homologia pode ser bastante variável. Esses são os primeiros resultados sobre a análise molecular de B. vogeli no Estado do Piauí. Além disso, este estudo demonstra que a babesiose canina é endêmica em cães de Teresina, Nordeste do Brasil, e que a PCR pode ser o método de escolha para diagnóstico da doença nessas áreas.

A revista do HCPA (Clinical & Biomedical Research) está reabrindo a seção de Bioestatística com o intuito de apresentar artigos explicativos, conceituais ou tutoriais, de modo a elucidar os leitores sobre os mais diversos temas estatísticos. Neste contexto, este artigo será o primeiro de uma série que tem como objetivo responder algumas das questões mais levantadas por pesquisadores da área da saúde. Começando pela Estatística Descritiva, alguns conceitos são esclarecidos e diversas referências são indicadas para o estudo do tema e para análises em SPSS ou R-project. This paper focuses primarily discuss the relationship of the Christian camp with the so called modern culture in Brazil over the past century, describing the process that goes here called Christianity “reaction” to a Christianity “transformation “ since some of the most significant writers of contemporary Brazilian Catholic Christian inspiration in their respective historical contexts. Objectives: to evaluate the agreement between Visual Analogue Scales (VAS) and numerical questions as a way of assessing the perception of teratogenic risk of treatment with drugs and radiotherapy. Methods: the sample comprised 144 pregnant and 143 non-pregnant women consecutively recruited at public health centers in Porto Alegre, in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, from February to August 2011. The perception of risk for congenital malformations in the general population and the perceptions of teratogenic risk for exposure to acetaminophen, meto-clopramide, misoprostol and radiotherapy were measured using VAS and numerical questions. The agreement between the results of the two techniques was tested using a Bland-Altman plot. Results: the medians for the perceptions measured using VAS were higher than those obtained using numerical questions for all variables. Objetivos: Estimar a prevalência das complicações crónicas relacionadas com a diabetes nos indivíduos com diabetes do Agrupamento de Centros de Saúde Santo Tirso/Trofa. Tipo de estudo: Descritivo, do tipo transversal com uma componente analítica. Local: Agrupamento de Centros de Saúde Grande Porto I – Santo Tirso/Trofa. População: Utentes com diabetes mellitus tipo 1 e 2. Métodos: Foi selecionada aleatoriamente uma amostra da população de utentes com diabetes mellitus tipo 1 e 2 que estavam inscritos nas unidades funcionais do Agrupamento de Centros de Saúde (N=9.426) em dezembro de 2014. Os dados foram recolhidos dos processos clínicos eletrónicos dos utentes, tendo sido estudadas as complicações: doença coronária, doença cerebrovascular, nefropatia, neuropatia, amputação no membro inferior e retinopatia. A análise dos dados foi efetuada nos programas SPSS® 21 e Excel® 2010. Resultados: Dos 1.507 indivíduos diabéticos estudados, 95,5% eram do tipo 2, 50,7% do sexo masculino, e a média de idades de 65,7±12 anos. Identificaram-se complicações em 33,6% dos indivíduos, sendo a nefropatia a complicação mais prevalente (17,2%) e a amputação (0,9%) a menos. Os de tipo 1, em comparação com os de tipo 2, apresentaram prevalências significativamente superiores de nefropatia, neuropatia, amputação e retinopatia. Conclusões: Algumas prevalências encontradas neste estudo foram diferentes às identificadas na revisão da literatura. No entanto, a interpretação dessas discrepâncias deve ser feita com cuidado, dadas as possíveis diferenças entre os critérios usados nas definições das complicações. Este estudo foi uma mais-valia para a caracterização deste problema a nível local e espera-se que os resultados obtidos possam servir de base para futuras investigações.

Objetivou-se realizar um levantamento acerca do que a literatura traz sobre o Processo de Enfermagem em Unidades de Urgência e emergência, descrevendo as principais dificuldades de implementação deste processo. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa com coleta realizada no mês de novembro de 2016, com os seguintes critérios de inclusão: artigos publicados no período de 2011 a 2016, nacionais disponíveis na integra indexados nas bases de dados: LILACS, SCIELO E MEDLINE. A busca foi realizada pelo acesso online, identificando-se 40 estudos no total, dos quais 07 eram duplicados e 13 não se enquadravam aos critérios de inclusão. Dessa forma, foram selecionados 09 que contemplaram o objeto. Da amostra, cinco artigos evidenciaram pontos satisfatório e/ou positivos do processo de trabalho desenvolvido pelos profissionais em Unidades de urgência e emergência e quatro deles apontam alguns aspectos assistenciais e gerenciais que necessitam de melhores avanços no que tange a um melhor atendimento a estes e também um melhor gerenciamento desse processo de cuidar. O enfermeiro, como responsável pela equipe de enfermagem e detentor de conhecimento clínico, deve ser o responsável pelo fluxo de atendimento dos usuários de acordo com acolhimento e classificação de risco e com um foco voltado também para segurança dos pacientes

RESUMO Objetivo Identificar os fatores associados à iniciação tabágica em adolescentes escolares. Método Estudo transversal realizado em 2014 com 864 adolescentes do ensino médio do sul do Brasil. Os dados foram coletados por meio de instrumento com questões sociodemográficas, da aplicação da Escala de Fagerström e do Inventário de Depressão de Beck, sendo analisados por estatística descritiva, testes Exato de Fisher, Qui-quadrado, Mann-Whitney, T e Regressão de Poisson. Resultados Cinquenta e quatro adolescentes iniciaram o comportamento tabágico, desses 35 continuam fumando, com elevada dependência de nicotina. Estiveram associados ao tabagismo: cor parda (p=0,020), famílias monoparentais (p=0,006), regular relação familiar (p=0,003) e familiares usuários de drogas (p=0,04). Apresentaram razão de prevalência significativamente maior: masculino (p=0,038), maior renda familiar (p>0,001), morar com um membro da família (p>0,001), relação familiar regular (p>0,001). Conclusões Os fatores identificados como associados à iniciação tabágica, demonstram que existe a necessidade de construir apoio para estratégias de educação em saúde a fim de mudar esta realidade.

Background: Although most HIV-1 infections in Brazil are due to subtype B, Southern Brazil has a high prevalence of subtype C and recombinant forms, such as CRF31_BC. This study assessed the impact of viral diversity on clinical progression in a cohort of newly diagnosed HIV-positive patients. Methods: From July/2004 to December/2005, 135 HIV-infected patients were recruited. The partial pol region was subtyped by phylogeny. A generalized estimating equation (GEE) model was used to examine the relationship between viral subtype, CD4+ T cell count and viral load levels before antiretroviral therapy. Hazard ratio (Cox regression) was used to evaluate factors associated with viral suppression (viral load < 50 copies/mL at six months). Results: Main HIV-1 subtypes included B (29.4%), C (28.2%), and CRF31_BC (23.5%). Subtypes B and C showed a similar trend in CD4+ T cell decline. Comparison of non-B (C and CRF31_BC) and B subtypes revealed no significant difference in the proportion of patients with viral suppression at six months (week 24). Higher CD4+ T cell count and lower viral load were independently associated with viral suppression. Conclusion: No significant differences were found between subtypes; however, lower viral load and higher CD4+ T cell count before therapy were associated with better response.

The literature has shown a strong relationship between executive dysfunction and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), although there is no consensus on which subprocesses of executive functioning are impaired and/or preserved in this condition. This study aimed to investigate executive function and working memory in children and adolescents with ASD (n = 11) compared to children and adolescents with typical development (n = 19) matched by age, formal education, and nonverbal IQ. The tests used were: Raven’s Colored Progressive Matrices, Stroop Test, Trail Making Test, Rey’s Complex Figure Test, Digit span, Pseudowords span, Working memory, Verbal fluency (orthographic and semantic) and Go/no go. The results demonstrate impairment of executive function in the clinical group, especially in planning, flexibility, inhibition, and also visuospatial working memory.

Abstract The Revised Olweus Bully/Victim Questionnaire (OBVQ) is among the few bullying assessment instruments with well-established psychometric properties in different countries. Nevertheless, the psychometric properties of the Brazilian version (Questionário de Bullying de Olweus - QBO) have not been determined. We aimed at verifying the construct validity and reliability of the bully and victim scales of the QBO. To achieve that goal, the victim and bully scales were assessed using polytomous item response theory (IRT). The best fit was obtained with a generalized partial credit model that is capable of measuring the specific discriminating power for each item in these scales. The QBO was administered to 703 public school students (mean age: 13 years; standard deviation = 1.58). Based on IRT analysis, the number of response categories in each item was reduced from four to three. Cronbach reliability scores were satisfactory: α = 0.85 (victim scale) and α = 0.87 (bully scale). In this study, hurtful comments, persecution, or threats had high power to discriminate victims and bullies. For both QBO scales, higher severity parameters were observed for direct bullying items. The results also show that the construct of both QBO scales measures the same construct proposed for the overall instrument. Thus, the QBO can be administered to different Brazilian populations to assess the main characteristics of bullying: repetition of behavior over time and intentionally acting to humiliate, threaten, or harm somebody.

Human herpesvirus type 6-(HHV-6) has been associated with morbidity after liver transplantation. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the HHV-6 seroprevalence among donorrecipient pairs, analyze the incidence of early active infection, its clinical manifestation, interaction with CMV, and the related morbidity in the first year after kidney transplantation. Methods: 46 donor-recipient pairs had IgG evaluated by ELISA before transplantation: HHV-6-(Pambio – USA) and CMV-(Roche – USA). A frozen whole blood sample collected weekly (from the 1st to the 6th week) was retrospectively tested for HHV-6 viral load (VL) determination by real time quantitative PCR (qPCR, Nanogen – Italy). Patients were preemptively surveyed for CMV by pp65 antigenemia (Ag, APAAP, immunohistochemistry, Biotest – Germany) from the 4th to the 12th week after transplantation. Active infection was defined as qPCR-HHV6+ (viral-load/mL-VL) and Ag+ (+cells/100.000 granulocytes), for HHV-6 and CMV, respectively. DCMV was defined as simultaneous positive antigenemia and suggestive signs/symptoms. Concerning +qPCR-HHV6, associated factors, clinical manifestation, interaction with CMV and morbidity were searched. Results: Pre-transplant HHV-6 seroprevalence was significantly higher among kidney recipients compared to their donors (82.6×54.8%; p = 0.005 [3.9 (1.4–10.4)]). Active infection by this virus occurred in 26.1% (12/46), with no association with previous IgG (p = 0.412). Median VL was 125 copies/mL (53–11.264), and the median Ag was 21 +cells (2–740). There was no association between HHV-6 and CMV activation after transplantation (p = 0.441), neither concerning DCMV (p = 0.596). Median highest Ag+ and days of ganciclovir treatment were similar between qPCR-HHV6 + or − (p = 0.206 and p = 0.124, respectively). qPCR-HHV6+ was associated with higher incidence of bacterial (p = 0.009) and fungal (p = 0.001) infections, and higher number (p = 0.001) of hospital admission and longer duration of hospitalization over the first 6 and 12 months post-transplantation (p = 0.033 and p = 0.001). Conclusion: Latent HHV-6 infection is more common among recipients than donors before transplantation. Early active infection by this pathogen after transplantation does not increase DCMV incidence or severity during the first 3 months of follow-up. However, early HHV-6 replication is associated with other infections and hospitalizations in the first year. O presente trabalho avaliou características de carcaça de bovinos de corte, de diferentes grupos genéticos, comparando métodos de avaliação de área de olho de lombo e de gordura de cobertura, além da estimativa das correlações de Pearson entre medidas efetuadas na carcaça e por ultra-sonografia para área de olho de lombo. Foram utilizados 48 bovinos machos dos grupos genéticos Nelore (N), Brangus (BR), ½ Canchim ½ Nelore (CN) e ½ Limousin½ Nelore (LN), criados em regime de pasto com suplementação, sendo que metade dos animais de cada grupo foi castrada aos doze meses de idade aproximada-mente. Na semana que antecedeu o abate foram realizadas medições da área de olho de lombo por ultra-sonografia (AOLU) e, após o abate, foram avaliados o acabamento (ACAB), a área de olho de lombo medida na carcaça (AOLC)e a espessura de gordura medida à altura da 13ª vértebra torácica (EG13). Noventa e seis bovinos foram distribuídos aleatoriamente em um delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 4x3, sendo quatro genótipos, Nelore (N), ½ Simental ½ Nelore (SN), ½ Red Angus ½ Nelore (AN) e ½ Red Angus ¼ Simental ¼ Nelore (ASN), e três condições sexuais, inteiro (I), castrado (C) e castrado mais Synovex S® ® (CS). A castração ocorreu aos seis meses de idade e o confinamento, aos nove meses. A alimentação consistiu de cana picada (70%) e concentrado (30%). As pesagens foram realizadas em intervalos de 28 dias, após jejum de 16 horas, e os animais foram abatidos com 13 a 15 meses. Utilizou-se o programa computacional MINITAB para as análises estatísticas. Avaliou-se a influência do genótipo (G), da condição sexual (CSx) e a interação G x CSx sobre características produtivas e de carcaça. G influenciou peso final (PF) e peso de carcaça quente (PCQ). O genótipo SN apresentou maior PF médio (389,3 kg) e o genótipo AN o menor (343,1 kg). CSx influenciou PF, PCQ e grau de acabamento (GA). I e CS foram mais pesados ao final (373,8 kg e 375,2, respectivamente) que os C (341,2 kg). O menor peso médio de PCQ foi observado nos animais C (180,6 kg), que diferiu daquele dos animais I (197,0kg) e dos CS (201,3kg). Animais CS apresentaram maior grau de acabamento (2,17) que as outras CSx. A CSx mostrou tendência de influência sobre a área de olho do lombo -AOL nos animais CS, com a maior média (65,21 cm²), contra 62,85 cm², para animais I, e 58,30 cm², para animais C. Houve interação G x CSx para ganho médio diário GMD e rendimento de carcaça REND. Quando corrigido para covariável peso inicial, registrou-se interação no PF e, quando corrigido para PF, interação no PCQ. Animais com gene de raça continental foram mais pesados ao final do experimento. A castração aos seis meses de idade prejudicou o desempenho de bovinos confinados e abatidos aos 15 meses. O uso de anabolisante melhorou o grau de acabamento de carcaça.Ninety-six young beef males were allotted to a completely randomized design in a 4x3 factorial scheme, four genetic groups, Nellore (N), ½ Simmental ½ Nellore (SN), ½ Red Angus ½ Nellore (AN) and ½ Red Angus ¼ Simmental ¼ Nellore (ASN), and three sex conditions (SC), intact (I), castrated (C) and castrated plus Synovex S ® implant (CS). O tema “estudos experimentais” é um conteúdo amplo, de difícil síntese. Com o objetivo de sintetizar as principais informações referentes a um estudo experimental, este trabalho visa dar continuidade ao estudo do tema iniciado em Mancuso et al. (2013). Além do contexto teórico abordado até então, a metodologia de desenvolvimento também é de fundamental importância. Os resultados podem sofrer interferências graves e os objetivos não alcançados, se a metodologia aplicada não for adequada. Além destes, as análises estatísticas e o número de sujeitos são fundamentais para a validade dos resultados. Na primeira parte, foram apresentadas as principais informações para iniciar um ensaio clínico. Nesta segunda parte serão abordados tópicos metodológicos como tipos, fases e delineamentos de um ensaio e tópicos estatísticos como análises e tamanho amostral.

Um estudo experimental tem como objetivo principal conduzir um ou mais tratamentos ou intervenções de modo a modificar, de alguma forma, um processo de doença. Esses estudos podem ser realizados em pacientes, sujeitos saudáveis, comunidades ou subgrupos da população. Para as comparações, pelo menos dois grupos são formados: um recebendo a intervenção nova (grupo experimental), e outro grupo com a intervenção padrão ou um placebo (grupo controle). Definir um grupo controle é uma das etapas mais difíceis, pois as características devem ser comparáveis em todos os critérios ao grupo experimental. Os resultados podem sofrer interferências, se a metodologia aplicada não for planejada adequadamente. Os sujeitos devem ser alocados de forma aleatória aos grupos. O “cegamento” também é recomendado, pois previne certos vieses. Além destes, o número de sujeitos é fundamental para a validade dos resultados. Contudo, a Ética na pesquisa deve prevalecer sob todas as circunstâncias. Um documento de consentimento (Termo de Consentimento Livre e Esclarecido) deve ser entregue aos participantes contendo, entre outras informações, os objetivos, procedimentos, riscos e benefícios. No final do estudo, os participantes têm o direito de serem informados sobre os resultados obtidos.

O presente artigo se propõe a descrever brevemente delineamentos epidemiológicos que são largamente utilizados na pesquisa da área da saúde. Os tipos de estudo abordados nesse artigo são a coorte, o caso controle, estudos de prevalência, estudos de teste diagnóstico, estudos ecológicos, ensaios clínicos, estudos de validade, fidedignidade e concordância e estudos piloto. Para cada um dos delineamentos são indicadas referências bibliográficas para os leitores poderem obter maior detalhamento dos delineamentos descritos.

Este artigo tem como objetivo apresentar o método de Equações de Estimativas Generalizadas (GEE) para a análise de dados longitudinais, considerada, em muitas ocasiões da área médica, melhor que a análise de variâncias para medidas repetidas. Para um melhor entendimento, apresentamos um exemplo no programa SPSS, versão 18.0.0, mostrando como esta pode ser realizada e interpretada.

O tamanho de efeito é uma estatística descritiva que serve como complemento ao teste de significância estatística. Cada vez mais esse tipo de abordagem vem sendo estimulada, em alguns casos até exigida, pelas publicações da área cientifica. Foram escolhidas algumas medidas de tamanho de efeito para uma explicação mais detalhada: o tamanho de efeito de d de Cohen, g de Hedges, delta de Glass para comparação das médias de dois grupos e o f² de Cohen utilizado na análise de medidas correlacionadas. Esses tamanhos de efeito foram calculados em exemplos obtidos a partir de simulação usando o SPSS v.18.0.0

Com o objetivo de analisar os aspectos que tornam as representações de gênero como atualizadoras da redefinição da construção identitária, em contraponto ao legado fonofalologocêntrico eurodescendente, a partir da constituição do mito em O Forte de Adonias Filho; este artigo parte do princípio de que natureza fragmentada do ser humano contraria a pretensa homogeneização do ser, moldada pela abstrata universalidade moderna, cuja máxima é a racionalidade. Tal racionalidade ocidental, falocêntrica, branca, ignorou a heterogeneidade e não permitiu o surgimento de outras vozes, enquanto sujeitos do conhecimento. O presente artigo parte da hipótese de que o Forte é um elemento totêmico e desencadeia as relações míticas, que estabelecem tabus e possibilita – por ser o mito uma entidade pré-lógica ocidental – uma redefinição das representações femininas, em contraponto ao legado fonofalologocêntrico eurodescendente, ao longo das narrativas. O amor incondicional de Adonias Filho à condição humana nos permitiu, neste artigo, adentrar no recôndito de seres, marcados tanto pelo espaço, quanto pelo tempo, numa dimensão mítica. Se a memória do discurso ocidental revelou, em sua formação, pela via da padronização e da racionalização, princípios como a unidade, o fechamento, a ordem, o anseio do absoluto e a racionalidade, a memória mítica transpõe o pré-dado, possibilitando o olhar multifacetado.

The ingestive behavior and thermal comfort were used to determine the best level of licury oil as feed supplement fed to dairy cows under grazing system. The treatments were 0.0; 1.5; 3.0 and 4.5% of licury oil in the concentrate (dry matter basis). The total area of grazing was 8ha of Tanzania grass (Panicum maximum Jacq. cv. Tanzânia-1). The evaluations of ingestive behavior were done in four periods (First period 21/05 to 11/06; Second period 12/06 to 02/07; third period 03/07 to 23/07 and Forth period 24/08 to 13/08, in 2007), two consecutive days (12h per day) per period, in intervals of one hour, by visual observation. It was analyzed the grazing, rest and rumination activities. The environment was monitored during all periods by recording the air temperature, relative humidity and black globe temperature. These data were used to calculate the comfort indexes. The physiological parameters evaluated were rectal temperature and breathe frequency. The avegare time spent in grazing, rst and rumination were 71.7; 11.2 and 16.9%, respectively. The licury oil in the feed supplements did not influence the ingestive behavior and physiological parameters of dairy cows, so that oil can be used up to 4.5% in the concentrate feed to milking cows.Objetivou-se identificar o melhor nível de óleo de licuri na suplementação concentrada de vacas leiteiras mantidas em pastejo, por intermédio do comportamento ingestivo e conforto térmico. Foram utilizadas 16 vacas em lactação, Holandês x Zebu, distribuídas no delineamento experimental quadrado latino 4 x 4. Os tratamentos foram 0,0; 1,5; 3,0 e 4,5% de óleo de licuri no concentrado, com base na matéria seca, e a área de pastejo utilizada foi de oito hectares de capim-tanzânia (Panicum maximum Jacq. cv. Tanzânia). As avaliações de comportamento ingestivo foram realizadas em quatro períodos de coleta em intervalos de uma hora, por 12 horas, em dois dias consecutivos, por meio de observação visual. Foram observadas as atividades de pastejo, ócio e ruminação. Nos mesmos períodos o ambiente foi monitorado diariamente, coletando os dados de temperatura do ar, umidade relativa e temperatura do globo negro, que foram usados para calcular os índices de conforto térmico. Foram avaliadas as variáveis fisiológicas (temperatura retal e freqüência respiratória), com intuito de verificar a influência do óleo sobre as mesmas. As médias de tempo de pastejo, ócio e ruminação observados foram, respectivamente, 71,7; 11,2 e 16,9%. Os níveis de óleo de licuri não influenciaram o comportamento ingestivo e os parâmetros fisiológicos das vacas. Recomenda-se a utilização de até 4,5% de óleo de licuri no concentrado de vacas em lactação.

O presente trabalho avaliou características de carcaça de bovinos de corte, de diferentes grupos genéticos, comparando métodos de avaliação de área de olho de lombo e de gordura de cobertura, além da estimativa das correlações de Pearson entre medidas efetuadas na carcaça e por ultra-sonografia para área de olho de lombo. Foram utilizados 48 bovinos machos dos grupos genéticos Nelore (N), Brangus (BR), ½ Canchim ½ Nelore (CN) e ½ Limousin½ Nelore (LN), criados em regime de pasto com suplementação, sendo que metade dos animais de cada grupo foi castrada aos doze meses de idade aproximada-mente. Na semana que antecedeu o abate foram realizadas medições da área de olho de lombo por ultra-sonografia (AOLU) e, após o abate, foram avaliados o acabamento (ACAB), a área de olho de lombo medida na carcaça (AOLC)e a espessura de gordura medida à altura da 13ª vértebra torácica (EG13).
