Due to the capability of the AMOLED (Active matrix organic light emitting diode) display can provide superior color saturation, flexible utilization, slimmer screen profile and more impressive image quality, it has received increasing demand for application in electronic devices. The organic light emitting diode (OLED) is current driven device so that the characteristics of thin field transistor (TFT) influence panel uniformity. Multiple TFT of pixel circuitry has been designed to compensate the Vth (threshold voltage) variations of array process and other driving issues. The fine metal mask (FMM) used in the OLED evaporation is an accurate mask having physical margin limitations in the high PPI (pixel per inch) AMOLED application. This paper details the utilization of a 2/3 sampled sub-pixel rendering (SPR) method to liberate more 50% layout area than the RGB stripe configuration. The proposed algorithm utilizes edge detection and one-side color diffusion to improve display performance as well as RGB stripe compatibility. Background: We conducted a study of the clinical manifestations and outcomes of empyema thoracis caused by Candida spp. in hospitalized patients. Methods: We identified patients who from January 2010 to June 2012 had signs of inflammation, such as fever and leukocytosis, and concomitant positive cultures of Candida spp. from specimens of pleural fluid. We reviewed retrospectively the medical records of all such patients. Results: Eight of the patients in whom we identified fever and leukocytosis with concomitant positive pleural fluid cultures of Candida spp. were found to have Candida empyema thoracis. Candida albicans was the most common species causing empyema (n=4), followed by C. glabrata (n=3) and C. tropicalis (n=1). Among the eight patients with Candida empyema thoracis, malignant disease was the most common underlying disease. Seven of the eight patients' episodes of Candida empyema thoracis (87.5%) were classified as health care-associated infections. One patient had a mixed infection with Candida spp. and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. None of the patients had concomitant candidemia. Fluconazole was the antifungal agent used most commonly in treating the patients, and all of the patients had drainage of pleural effusions, including tube thoracostomy in five patients and drainage through a pigtail catheter in three patients. One patient underwent video-assisted thoracic surgery for the management of empyema thoracis, and the patients' overall in-hospital mortality was 62.5%. Conclusion: Although Candida empyema thoracis is encountered rarely, it can develop in immunocompromised patients and can be associated with a high mortality rate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The mirror displays, with good quality of both reflected and emitted images, was successfully demonstrated based on AMOLED and transflective mirror designs. The see-through type 6-inch transparent AMOLEDs, with transparency of 24%∼39%, were developed based on SPC LTPS TFTs with simple circuit design. Further, a novel combo display which integrated transparent AMOLED and EPD was demonstrated. Fine metal masks (FMM) have always been a critical manufacturing tool for the fabrication of R/G/B side-by-side (SBS) AMOLED panels. In this work, we successfully fabricated a series of OLED devices and active matrix panels in a hybrid structure to confirm the manufacturing feasibility without using FMM tools.
