In the current study, we used latent profile analysis to investigate the Dimensional Clinical Personality Inventory 2 capacity to discriminate psychopathy traits in a sample of adults. Participants were 628 adults from the general population recruited by convenience. Our latent profile analysis recovered two groups: Psychopathic Tendencies and Empathetic Tendencies. The psychopathic tendencies group scored higher in all the IDCP-2 factors comprising psychopathy features. Although our study has sample restrictions, we found evidence for using IDCP-2 factors to discriminate people with low and high levels of psychopathic traits. We discuss the theoretical and practical implications of our findings.

The relationship between the Dark Triad and depressive symptoms is controversial. While some studies have reported negative correlations, then suggesting a protective effect of the Dark Triad traits against depression, evidence sometimes indicates the opposite, that is, that dark traits co-occur with depression. An additional issue is that these associations could be moderated by sex, a hypothesis yet to be tested. In the current study, we intended to investigate the relationship between the Dark Triad traits and the variables depression and life satisfaction, besides testing the role of sex as a potential moderator in these relationships. Participants were 488 undergraduate students, with ages from 18 to 72 years (M = 29.51; SD = 10.55; 75.6% females), who responded to the Short Dark Triad, the Baptista's Depression Scale, and the Satisfaction with Life Scale. Results from the Structural Equation Modeling indicated that each Dark Triad trait manifested a unique pattern of relationships to depression and life satisfaction. Nevertheless, we found no evidence of moderation by sex in the relationship that the dark traits have with depression and life satisfaction. In the contemporary digital era, the extensive integration of information and communication technologies (ICT) has significantly changed offline activities, including communication, shopping, and media consumption. This integration has been accelerated by the COVID‐19 pandemic, leading to increased reliance on ICT for work, education, socializing, and accessing essential services. Consequently, there is growing concern about the impact of ICT on well‐being, particularly regarding psychological and financial health, as well as the association with psychiatric disorders. This study is aimed at exploring the psychometric properties of two scales adapted for the Brazilian context: the Digital Life Balance (DLB) scale and the Need for Online Social Feedback (NfOSF) scale. These scales measure individuals' perceived balance between online and offline activities and their need for social validation online, respectively. Using a sample of 220 Brazilian individuals (50.9% female, 43.6% male, mean age = 34.96 years, SD = 11.32), we conducted confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to assess the scales' factor structures and test the reliability and validity of the two measures. The results demonstrated good fit indices and reliable internal consistency for both scales. Additionally, metric invariance between Brazilian and Italian samples was established, supporting cross‐cultural applicability. External validity was examined through correlations with time spent on social media and the perceived importance of followers. Findings indicate that higher DLB is associated with less time spent online, while greater NfOSF correlates with higher importance placed on social media followers. These insights highlight the importance of understanding digital balance and the role of social feedback in ICT use, contributing to the effective screening of potential dysfunctional ICT use in Brazil. As a result of this study, validated Brazilian versions of the NfOSF and DLB scales were successfully obtained, offering valuable tools for assessing DLB and the NfOSF in the Brazilian context. This study aimed to identify the core and overlapping manifestations of Dark Triad traits across 10 countries. Methods: We used the Short Dark Triad (SD3) scale and assessed a sample of 8093 participants (59.7% women, M(age) = 32.68 years). For graphical representation, the spinglass algorithm was applied to understand the cluster distribution among Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and subclinical narcissism traits. Centrality indices were used to identify the most influential items, and the clique-percolation algorithm was employed to detect shared attributes among multiple Dark Triad items. Results: Straightforward SD3-21 items demonstrated better interpretability as aversive traits within the broader system. Items with higher centrality values were those related to short-term verbal manipulation from the psychopathy domain, clever manipulation, strategic revenge-seeking from Machiavellianism, and narcissistic motivations for connecting with significant individuals. The most predicted items were linked to planned revenge, using information against others from Machiavellianism, short-term psychopathic verbal manipulation, and narcissistic belief of specialness based on external validation. Items like short-term verbal manipulation had overlaps with both psychopathy and narcissism clusters, while clever manipulation overlapped with Machiavellianism and psychopathy. Conclusion: This cross-cultural study highlights the central role of verbal manipulation within the Dark Triad traits, along with identifying overlapping items among traits measured using straightforward SD3 scale items. In line with our findings, future research that incorporates a wide range of cultural contexts is encouraged to establish the consistency of these findings with the SD3 Scale or alternative measures. This article presents the results of a recent study that explores the connection between empathy and cognitive abilities in Brazilian schoolchildren with developmental neurodisabilities and a history of school warnings for violent behavior. The study adapted the Affective and Cognitive Measure of Empathy (ACME) instrument for the Brazilian context and found robust psychometric properties for assessing empathy in this population. The study included a sample of 349 schoolchildren diagnosed with developmental neurodisabilities, with the most common issues being autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and learning difficulties. The study revealed associations between affective dissonance, episodic memory, and executive function, highlighting the complex relationship between cognitive domains and empathy. The authors emphasize the importance of understanding the broader sociocultural context in which these children, regardless of their neurodevelopmental status, find themselves, and call for inclusive and contextually relevant research to address the challenges posed by psychosocial vulnerability in Brazil. One challenge of self-report assessments is response styles, individual preferences for some of the options in a given response scale that might bias the true latent trait level of the respondent. Socially desirable responding consists of one individual making efforts to display oneself in a favorable manner given perceived social values. Three factor models of social desirability have received attention, with two and three factors, and the last one two factors and four facets (or four-factor model). In the present study, we explore the extent to which these three factor models represent the structure of the Impression Management and Self-Deception Scale-IPIP. Participants were 466 adults (M = 25.22 years, DP = 7.05, 60.27% females). The four-factor model yielded the best fit to the data, but the original two-factor structure resulted in the simpler and clearer factor solution. The university students are in the group of vulnerability to depressive disorder because they suffer different stressors during the course (e.g., dealing with new teaching rules, deadlines for work assignments) and due to the great changes in the process of entering adult life. One aspect that can contribute to the attenuation of depressive symptoms is the level of hope of the students, since this is related to the long-term planning and a positive perspective on life. Thus, this research aimed to verify the relationship between depressive symptoms and cognitive hope in university students. The instruments used were the Baptist Depression Scale - EBADEP-A and the Hope Index. The participants were 118 engineering students, 80.5% men (M = 20 years, SD = 4.2 years), students and graduates, from a private university in a city in the interior of São Paulo. The answers were analyzed via Student's t and Cohen's d, the comparison was between sex, freshman and veterans college student. The results suggest that incoming students have more hope than their graduates, no sex differences and the greater the hope, the less presence of depressive symptoms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
