Diabetic wounds (DWs) are a common complication of diabetes mellitus; DWs have a low cure rate and likely recurrence, thus affecting the quality of patients' lives. As traditional therapy cannot effectively improve DW closure, DW has become a severe clinical medical problem worldwide. Unlike routine wound healing, DW is difficult to heal because of its chronically arrested inflammatory phase. Although mesenchymal stem cells and their secreted cytokines can alleviate oxidative stress and stimulate angiogenesis in wounds, thereby promoting wound healing, the biological activity of mesenchymal stem cells is compromised by direct injection, which hinders their therapeutic effect. Hydro-gels form a three-dimensional network that mimics the extracellular matrix, which can provide shelter for stem cells in the inflammatory microenvironment with reactive oxygen species in DW, and maintains the survival and viability of stem cells. This review summarizes the mechanisms and applications of stem cells and hydrogels in treating DW; additionally, it focuses on the different applications of therapy combining hydrogel and stem cells for DW treatment.

Waste cotton fibers were used as the raw material to prepare carbon microspheres by treatment with subcritical water. Results show that the cotton fibers are hydrolyzed, dehydrated and carbonized to form carbon spheres with a graphitic structure in subcritical water with different pH values. The carbon spheres prepared at a pH value of 3.5 have particle sizes of 0.8–3 μm and a carbon content of 74.99%. High temperature and pressure lead to the destruction of the crystal structure of the cotton fibers. The β−1,4 glycosidic linkage in a cellulose molecule is attacked by H+ during hydrolysis. The smaller the pH value, the higher the glucose yield in hydrolysis, and the more regular the morphology of the carbon spheres, the greater the carbon content and calorific value of the carbonized products. It is difficult to prepare spherical carbons under high pH values due to the low hydrolysis yields of glucose.

The catalytic pyrolysis pathways of carbonyl compounds in coal were systematically studied using density functional theory (DFT), with benzaldehyde (C6H5CHO) employed as a coal-based model compound and ZnO, γ-Al2O3, and CaO as catalysts. The results show that the products of both pyrolysis and catalytic pyrolysis are C6H6 and CO. However, the presence of any of the catalysts changes the reaction pathway and reduces the energy barrier, indicating that these catalysts promote C6H5CHO decomposition. Graphical abstract The presence of catalysts changes the reaction pathway and the energy barrier decreases in the order Ea (no catalyst)> Ea (CaO)> Ea (γ-Al2O3)> Ea (ZnO), indicating that these catalysts promote C6H5CHO decomposition.

How to give the corresponding nursing strategies for the risk factors of death is the focus of the current clinical nursing of AMI. Therefore, this study aims to determine causes of death in patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) and the nursing strategies. The clinical data of 127 AMI patients treated in our center from January 1st, 2010 to December 31st, 2014, categorized into observed group and control group according to psychological counselling, were retrospectively analysed. Total of 68 patients were enrolled in observed group with 59 patients enrolled in control group. 48 (70.6%) of observed group had complicated infection and 43 (72.9%) of control group, respectively. The mortality of observed group was 17.65%, lower than 33.90% of control group (p=0.035). Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that age (≥ 70 y), less-awareness, complicated infection and accompanying conditions such as cardiogenic shock might be high-risk factors of AMI-induced death. In conclusion, AMI deaths are associated with diverse causes. Active and effective nursing approaches, such as psychological counselling, may help to decrease the risk of AMI deaths. The corresponding nursing strategies for these death-related factors included tailored patient education, psychological counselling, concentrated nursing care, reasonable nursing resource planning, continuous ECG monitoring and close observation.

A new MoO3/SO4 2−-TiO2 catalyst was prepared by a conventional impregnation of SO4 2−/TiO2 as carrier with an aqueous solution of ammonium molybdate and used for the synthesis of transesterification of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) with phenol. A series of MoO3/SO4 2−-TiO2 catalysts with different MoO3 loadings were investigated and characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR), NH3-temperature programmed desorption (NH3-TPD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results show that MoO3 loading is related to the activity of transesterification reaction. With the increase of MoO3 loading, the activity of transesterification reaction increases. The sulfur species in the catalyst have an influence on the molybdenum species, and lead to an increase in the electropositive of molybdenum, which promotes the catalytic activity of MoO3/SO4 2−-TiO2. Among the series of catalysts prepared, MoO3/SO4 2−-TiO2 with 10% MoO3 and 823 K calcinated is found to be the most active catalyst for transesterification reaction. Under the reaction conditions of 453 K and 12 h, the conversion of DMC is 30.5 %, and the yields of MPC and DPC reach 21.2 % and 8.7 %, respectively.

The symmetry phosphoramidite reagents were synthesized via a two-step route and used for the ‘one pot’ synthesis of the phosphoserine building block Fmoc-Ser(PO(OBzl)OH)-OH. The procedure is simple and rapid, and product is obtained in high yield. When using this building block, the phosphopeptide (RKGS(PO3H2)SSNEPSSDSLSSPTLLAL) related to the C-terminal of c-Fos protein was synthesized manually by Fmoc/t-Bu procedure and characterized by matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry. In the fragment ion of phosphopeptide in the MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry with a curved field reflection, the acquired information can be used to identify the sequences and the phosphorylation sites of the peptide.

During wound healing and tissue repair the dermal fibroblast-to-myofibroblast transdifferentiation plays an important role, transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) is considered to be the main stimuli factor of transdifferentiation. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have recently emerged as key post-transcriptional regulators of gene expression. The involvement of miRNAs and their roles in TGF-β1-induced myofibroblast transdifferentiation remains to be determined in detail. The current study found that the expression of miR-146a was upregulated in human dermal fibroblasts cells in response to TGF-β1 stimulation in dose-dependent manner by quantitative RT-PCR. Bioinformatic analyses predict that signaling effectors mothers against decapentaplegic protein 4 (SMAD4) is a miR-146a target gene. Luciferase assay demonstrated that miR-146a mimics suppressed SMAD4 3'-UTR reporter construct activity. Furthermore, miR-146a overexpression in dermal fibroblast did not decrease target mRNA levels, but significantly reduced target protein expression. In addition, dermal fibroblasts transfected with miR-146a mimics exhibited attenuated TGF-β1 -induced α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) expression compared with the control. This study demonstrated that miR-146a may function as a novel negative regulator to modulate myofibroblast transdifferentiation during TGF-β1 induction by targeting SMAD4.

Photobiomodulation (PBM) has been mainly used in athlete trauma care. In this paper, the possible applications of PBM in athlete medical care to maintain pro-oxidant-antioxidant homeostasis and in athlete trauma care to treat osteoarthritis and delayed onset of muscular soreness (DOMS) have been discussed. In order to maintain pro-oxidant-antioxidant homeostasis, PBM might be used in an intravascular way, in an endonasal way or in a directly irradiated way. DOMS was supposed to have three phases, z-line disruption, proteolysis of damaged proteins and protein synthesis for myofibril remodeling, each of which might have its own optimum dose of PBM.

Intravascular low intensity laser therapy (ILILT) was originally put forward in USA in 1982, but popularized in Russia in1980s and in China in 1990s, respectively. A randomized placebo-controlled study has shown ILILT clinical efficacy inpatients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. As Chinese therapeutic applications ofILILT were the most widely in the world,its basic research, such as intracellular signal transduction research, blood research in vitro, animal blood research in vivo,human blood research in vivo and traditional Chinese medicine research, was also very progressive in China. Its basic studieswill be reviewed in terms ofthe biological information model ofphotobiomodulation in this paper. Photobiomodulation (PBM) is an effect oflow intensity monochromatic light or laser irradiation (LIL) on biological systems. which stimulates or inhibits biological functions but does not result in irreducible damage. It has been observed that PBM can suppress cellular senescence, reverse skin photoageing and improve fibromyalgia. In this paper, the biological information model of photobiomodulation (BIMP) is used to discuss its mechanism. Cellular senescence can result from short, dysfunctional telomeres, oxidative stress, or oncogene expression, and may contribute to aging so that it can be seen as a decline of cellular function in which cAMP plays an important role, which provide a foundation for PBM on senescence since cellular senescence is a reasonable model of senescence and PBM is a cellular rehabilitation in which cAMP also plays an important role according to BIMP. The PBM in reversing skin photoageing and improving fibromyalgia are then discussed in detail.

Photobiomodulation is an effect of low intensity monochromatic light or laser irradiation on biological systems, which stimulates or inhibits biological functions but does not results in irreducible damage. However, many cellular experiments, animal experiments or clinic studies with monochromatic light or laser irradiation which intensity is not so high that it directly destroys cells have found no photobiomodulation but cell compartment damage, apoptosis or necrosis so that a new concept, a moderate intensity laser or monochromatic light, should be defined if its intensity is so high that no photobiomodulation can be observed, but is so low that it can not directly destroy cells. There might be two pathways mediated the effects of a moderate intensity laser or monochromatic light: one is mediated by the photodynamic effects of endogenetic photosensitizers to induce apoptosis or necrosis, one is mediated by laser or monochromatic light induced stress wave through endogenetic chromophore to induce apoptosis. These effects can be used to understand laser or monochromatic light induced cell compartment damage, apoptosis or necrosis. They are beneficial in phototherapy of cancer and scar, but deleterious in phototherapy of delayed onset of muscular soreness.

The civilization theories prevailed among people are the theories paying attention to the geographical factors. In this paper, the latitude distribution of track and field elite athletes in China mainland has been studied in terms of the biological effects of sunlight. The China mainland is divided into seven latitude zones according to the absolute latitude value so that the larger the zone number is, the larger the distance from the Equator. The elite athletes are classified into speed-type, jump-type, strength-type and endurance-type so that the latitude distribution can be discussed in terms of exercise physiology. The latitude distribution shows that the elite athletes of speed-type or jump-type prefer to the zones of low latitude, and the elite athletes of strength-type or endurance-type prefer to the zones of high latitude. These phenomena can be understood by the effects of sunlight on exercise physiological index such as skeletal muscle fibre types.

Endonasal low intensity laser therapy (ELILT) began in China in 1998. Now in China it is widely applied to treat hyperlipidemia and brain diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, insomnia, poststroke depression, intractable headache, ache in head or face, cerebral thrombosis, acute ischemic cerebrovascular disease, migraine, brain lesion and mild cognitive impairment. There are four pathways mediating EILILT, Yangming channel, autonomic nervous systems and blood cells. Two unhealth acupoints of Yangming channal inside nose might mediate the one as is low intensity laser acupuncture. Unbalance autonomic nervous systems might be modulated. Blood cells might mediate the one as is intravascular low intensity laser therapy. These three pathways are integrated in ELILT so that serum amyloid β protein, malformation rate of erythrocyte, CCK-8, the level of viscosity at lower shear rates and hematocrit, or serum lipid might decrease, and melanin production, SOD activity or β endorphin might increase after ELILT treatment. These results indicate ELILT might work, but it need to be verified by randomized placebo-controlled trial.
