Abstract

International audience; The nanosatellite ATISE is a mission dedicated to the observation of the emission spectra of the upper atmosphere (i.e. Airglow and Auroras) mainly related to both the solar UV flux and the precipitation of suprathermal particles coming from the solar wind through the magnetosphere. ATISE will measure specifically the auroral emissions, and the airglow (day- and night) in the spectral range between 380 and 900 nm at altitudes between 100 and 350 km. The exposure time will be 1 second in auroral region and 20 s at low latitude regions. The 5 year expected lifetime of this mission should cover almost a half of solar cycle (2 years nominal). This instrument concept is based on an innovative miniaturized Fourier-transform spectrometer (FTS) allowing simultaneous 1 Rayleigh sensitivity detection along six 1.5°x1° limb lines of sight. This 1-2kg payload instrument is hosted in a 12U cubeSat where 6U are allocated to the payload and 6U to the plateform subsystems. This represents a miniaturisation by a factor of 500 on weight and volume compared to previous Arizona-GLO instrument for equivalent performances in the visible. The instrument is based on microSPOC concept developed by ONERA and IPAG using one Fizeau interferometer per line of sight directly glued on top of the half of a very sensitive CMOS Pyxalis HDPYX detector. Three detectors are necessary with a total electrical consumption compatible with a 6U nanoSat. Each interferometer occupies a 1.4 M pixel part of detector, each is placed on an image of the entrance pupil corresponding to a unique direction of the six lines of sight, this in order to have a uniform illumination permitting good spectral Fourier reconstruction from fringes created between the Fizeau plate and the detector itself. Despite a limited 8x6 cm telescope, this configuration takes advantage of FTS multiplex effect and permits us to maximize the throughput and to integrate very faint emission lines over a wide field of view even if the 1 second integrated signal is comparable to the detector noise.

Abstract

Aims. NGC 6334 and NGC 6357 are amongst the most active, optically visible Galactic star-forming complexes. They are composed of several El 11 regions that have a significant impact on their surrounding. The aim of this paper is to present a kinematic study of the optical H II regions that belong to NGC 6334 and NGC 6357. Methods. We use Fabry-Perot interferometer observations of the H alpha line, which cover NGC 6334 and NGC 6357. These observations allow us to analyse the H alpha line profiles to probe the kinematics of the ionised gas of both regions. We complement the H alpha observations with multi-wavelength data to specify the nature of the H II regions. Results. We determine the dynamical nature of the optical H II regions that belongs to NGC 6334 and NGC 6357. In NGC 6334, GUM 61 is an expanding wind shell-like H II region, GUM 64b exhibits a champagne flow, GM1-24 is the H alpha counterpart of two larger regions and H II 351.2+0.5 is, in fact, composed of two H II regions. In NGC 6357, H II 353.08+0.28 and H II 353.09+0.63 are probably stellar wind-shaped bubble 11 II regions, while H II 353.42+0.45 is a classical photo-ionised 11 II region. We suggest that, at large scale, star-formation seems to be triggered where large/old 1111 regions intersect. Inversely, stellar formation seems to have already started in the NGC 6334 north-east filament, irrespective of any evident external H II region impact. While NGC 6357 shows more complicated kinematics, NGC 6334 is characterised by a more active stellar formation.

Abstract

"La nebulosa N119 en la Nube Mayor de Magallanes tiene una morfolog??amuy peculiar, dif??cil de explicar con los modelos cl?asicos. El objetivo del presenteart??culo es proporcionar datos cinem?aticos que puedan dar restricciones sobre sunaturaleza, formaci?on y evoluci?on. La peculiar morfolog??a espiral de esta nebulosa seve reejada en su campo de velocidades radiales, el cual muestra varias expansionesen los lamentos d?ebiles, los cuales forman diferentes regiones en forma de burbujas,pero tambi?en encontramos otras componentes cuyo origen no est?a claro. De acuerdocon nuestros resultados, N119 parece contener 3 nebulosas en forma de burbujaformadas por los vientos estelares de estrellas O, WR y quiz?as un posible remanentede una explosi?on de hipernova. En el curso de este estudio hemos detectado porprimera vez una burbuja alrededor de la estrella WR Br 21."

Abstract

International audience; Aims. We study the geometry and kinematics of the circumstellar environment of the Be star Kappa CMa in the Br gamma emission line and its nearby continuum. Methods. We use the VLTI/AMBER instrument operating in the K band which provides a spatial resolution of about 6 mas with a spectral resolution of 1500 to study the kinematics within the disk and to infer its rotation law. In order to obtain more kinematical constraints we also use an high spectral resolution Pa beta line profile obtain in December 2005 at the Observatorio do Pico do Dios, Brazil and we compile V/R line profile variations and spectral energy distribution data points from the literature. Results. Using differential visibilities and differential phases across the Br gamma line we detect an asymmetry in the disk. Moreover, we found that kappa CMa seems difficult to fit within the classical scenario for Be stars, illustrated recently by alpha Arae observations, i.e. a fast rotating B star close to its breakup velocity surrounded by a Keplerian circumstellar disk with an enhanced polar wind. Finally we discuss the possibility for kappa CMa to be a critical rotator with a Keplerian rotating disk and try to see if the detected asymmetry can be interpreted within the "one-armed" viscous disk framework.

8 pages; International audience; AMBER is the first near infrared focal instrument of the VLTI. It combines three telescopes and produces spectrally resolved interferometric measures. This paper discusses some preliminary results of the first scientific observations of AMBER with three Unit Telescopes at medium (1500) and high (12000) spectral resolution. We derive a first set of constraints on the structure of the circumstellar material around the Wolf Rayet gamma2 Velorum and the LBV eta Carinae.

Abstract

The Galactic plane has been observed between l= 330 to l= 336 as part of a velocity resolved H survey of the southern Milky Way using a scaning Fabry-Perot on a 36 cm telescope. The detailed analysis of the resultant H profiles reveals the presence of several layers of ionized gas with different velocities over the surveyed region. We have studied in detail both the 2-D spatial and velocity structure of the HII regions RCW102, RCW104 and RCW106. Combining these H observations with stellar and radio data we provide estimates for the most probable distances of these different layers. The first layer at -5 km is local emission linked to the Sco-Cen association at 170 pc. The next layer, around -24 km , is at 1.9 kpc and traces the near section of the Sagittarius-Carina arm. Well connected to the Sagittarius-Carina arm portions traced in the adjacent regions (l= 328 and l= 338 area), the arm, in this longitude range, clearly shows and confirms the departure from a logarithmic spiral. The Scutum-Crux arm is also traced in this area by faint and diffuse emission at -40 km which can be placed at 3.2 kpc. The layer at -52 km is the major spiral-arm feature of the studied area; its most probable stellar distance is 4.2 kpc. An important emission component is also observed at -65 km in the southern part of the surveyed area. This mainly patchy and filamentary emission we identify as the possible optical counterpart of a supernovae remnant centered at l= 332.0, b=-3.2. Finally, two complexes have been determined around 12.5 kpc which places them in the far section of the Norma arm

Abstract

The young stellar object MWC 297 has been observed with the VLT interferometer equipped with the AMBER instrument. MWC 297 has been spatially resolved in the continuum with a visibility of 0.50 as well as in the Br gamma emission line where the visibility decrease to a lower value of 0.33. This change in the visibility with the wavelength can be interpreted by the presence of an optically thick disk responsible for the visibility in the continuum and of a stellar wind traced by Br gamma and whose apparent size is 40% larger. We validate this interpretation by building a model of the stellar environment that combines a geometrically thin, optically thick accretion disk model consisting of gas and dust, and a latitude-dependent stellar wind outflowing above the disk surface. The continuum emission and visibilities obtained from this model are fully consistent with the interferometric AMBER data. They agree also with existing optical, near-infrared spectra and other broad-band near-infrared interferometric visibilities. A picture emerges in which MWC 297 is surrounded by an equatorial flat disk that is possibly still accreting and an outflowing wind which has a much higher velocity in the polar region than at the equator.
