The article presents research on the pathological effects of toxicity of Ficus tsiela (Roxb) in rats. Topics discussed include the methodology in extracting Roxb, testing for composition of elements such as steroids, alkaloids and tannins, and evaluation of phytotoxicity of various concentrations of fresh Roxb juice and alcoholic extract orally administered to rats on their thyroid and adrenal glands.

Hepato-renal pathology associated with nutritional and metabolic diseases in chickens was studied using samples brought for autopsy to the Centre of Excellence in Pathology. Among these; fatty liver syndrome was observed in 41 chickens. The liver showed moderate to severe enlargement with yellowish to yellowish brown discoloration and hepatocytes were distended with fat vacuoles. Gout was observed in 18 chickens showing deposition of white chalky crystals on the visceral organs and joints. Microscopically the liver and kidneys showed urate deposition. Ascites syndrome was observed in 13 chickens with accumulation of clear yellowish fluid in the abdominal cavity. Histology of liver revealed multifocal random areas of necrosis and disorganization of hepatic cords. Kidney showed intertubular hemorrhages and degeneration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article discusses a study on the probable toxic effects of different doses of cypermethrin pesticides on male Sprague Dawley rats. It says that the study has observed clinical signs, gross, and histological variations. Results show varying outcomes in different control groups such as the observation of gross lesions in the intoxicated set, necrotic changes, and haemorrhages. It concludes that sublethal doses of cypermethrin may affect some vital organs and have toxic effects on mammals.

The incidence of neoplasms among canines in Thrissur area of Kerala was studied. Samples were obtained from the canine cases presented to the University Veterinary hospitals of Mannuthy and Kokkalai as well as from the carcasses brought for post mortem examination in the Centre of Excellence in Pathology, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy during an year. Collected samples were subjected to histopathological studies for diagnosis of tumour type. Age, sex and breed of the affected animals were analyzed. Sixty one tumour cases were obtained. Sixty six per cent of the tumours were benign. Skin and soft tissue tumours were the common type observed. Maximum cases were observed in the 5 to 8 year group. Fifty eight per cent of the affected animals were females. Breed wise analysis revealed that German shepherds were the most affected. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents the study which examined the metastaic embryonal nephroma in a domestic chicken (Gallus domesticus). It defines a metastatic form of embryonal nephroma as one in which the kidney grows rapidly into a huge rounded/bosselated mass, distending the renal capsule and distorting the outline of the kidney. In the study, the carcass of a 9-month-old female Gramasree that was brought to the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Thrissur, India was used.

The article highlights a study which investigated the histomorphological features of ovarian mixed adenocarcinoma in guinea fowl. The histopathological features of the tumor included acinar, solid and scirrhous architecture. Microscopical examination revealed no lesions in other organs. There was also no widespread implantation on serosal surfaces, as the specimen was collected from a young adult bird.

Anthrax, one of the most dreaded zoonotic diseases is characterized by sudden death in cattle. It is normally considered that oozing of unclotted tarry blood from the external natural orifices is suggestive of Anthrax. Here we report two cases of anthrax in cattle wherein bleeding in any form was not detected. One was from a cross-bred cow and another from a bullock, which were brought for necropsy examination with a history of sudden death from the nearby slaughter house. The carcasses were bloated and rigor mortis was partial. The peripheral blood smear examination from both the cases revealed the presence of truncated, capsulated, short rods of Bacillus anthracis. This clearly warrants the need for examination of peripheral blood smear examination before attempting autopsy, as anthrax in an occult form may be present in the cases, which may definitely pose a zoonotic risk. The article focuses on the clinical report related to the detection of urine retention and crystalluria in a pug breed of dog that was presented for necropsy. It states that massive infiltration of polymorphonuclear cells are revealed through haematoxylin and eosin staining of the urinary bladder tissue sections. It mentions that urolithiasis, urine retention and bacterial invasion resulted in the death of the animal.

The article presents a case study of chronic hepatitis in a captive poisonous Russell's viper in India. A detailed necropsy of the dead snake revealed chronic hepatitis coupled with intestinal helminthosis affecting the kidneys. Histopathological examination of Haematoxylin and Eosin stained liver sections revealed massive infiltration of lobules by chronic inflammatory cells which caused the viper's death.

The article presents case reports of suppurative arthritis in three wild deers from the Trichur zoo in India. The animals were being treated for swollen joints and wounds for a week and subsequently died. Examination of the animals revealed that they were in an extreme state of debility. Gross and histopathological examination conducted on the animals confirmed a case of suppurative arthritis involving multiple joints, which have become gangrenous.
