Abstract: International audience; We introduce a new statistic based on permutation descents which has a distribution given by the Stirling numbers of the first kind, i.e., with the same distribution as for the number of cycles in permutations. We study this statistic on the sets of permutations avoiding one pattern of length three by giving bivariate generating functions. As a consequence, new classes of permutations enumerated by the Motzkin numbers are obtained. Finally, we deduce results about the popularity of the pure descents in all these restricted sets. Abstract: International audience; As more and more architectural design and construction data is represented using the Resource Description Framework (RDF) data model, it makes sense to take advantage of the logical basis of RDF and implement a semantic rule checking process as it is currently not available in the architectural design and construction industry. The argument for such a semantic rule checking process has been made a number of times by now. However, there are a number of strategies and approaches that can be followed regarding the realization of such a rule checking process, even when limiting to the use of semantic web technologies. In this article, we compare three reference rule checking approaches that have been reported earlier for semantic rule checking in the domain of architecture, engineering and construction (AEC). Each of these approaches has its advantages and disadvantages. A criterion that is tremendously important to allow adoption and uptake of such semantic rule checking approaches, is performance. Hence, this article provides an overview of our collaborative test results in order to obtain a performance benchmark for these approaches. In addition to the benchmark, a documentation of the actual rule checking approaches is discussed. Furthermore, we give an indication of the main features and decisions that impact performance for each of these three approaches, so that system developers in the construction industry can make an informed choice when deciding for one of the documented rule checking approaches.

Abstract: International audience; Video-based heartbeat rate measurement is a rapidly growing application in remote health monitoring. Video-based heartbeat rate measuring methods operate mainly by estimating photoplethysmography or ballistocardiography signals. These methods operate by estimating the microscopic color change in the face or by estimating the microscopic rigid motion of the head/facial skin. However, the robustness to motion artifacts caused by illumination variance and motion variance of the subject poses main challenge. We present a video-based heartbeat rate measuring framework to overcome these problems by using the principle of ballistocardiography. In this paper, we proposed a ballistocardiography model based on Newtons third law of force and dynamics of harmonic oscillation. We formulate a framework based on the ballistocardiography model to measure the rigid involuntary head motion caused by the ejection of the blood from the heart. Our proposed framework operates by estimating the motion of multivariate feature points to estimate the heartbeat rate autonomously. We evaluated our proposed framework along with existing video-based heartbeat rate measuring methods with three databases, namely; MAHNOB HCI database, human-computer interaction database, and driver health monitoring database. Our proposed framework outperformed existing methods by reporting a low mean error rate of 4.34 bpm with a standard deviation of 3.14 bpm, root mean square error of 5.29 with a high Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.91. The proposed method also operated robustly in the human-computer interaction database and driver health monitoring database by overcoming the issues related to illumination and motion variance.

Abstract: International audience; Even though polymer chains are well studied, the convolution and diffraction effect of microscopes may cause the quality of the images to be blurry and/or noisy. This paper aims to present an automatic method to extract the curve representing a polymer chain. This curve is useful for chemical studies; for instance, the length of a polymer chain and its curvature are related to its chemical properties. A movement of the polymer chain may lead to complex geometries with possible intersections. In response to this, we developed an approach computing a piecewise curve traversing the shape. This technique relies on computing several geodesics by browsing distinct parts of the shape. Fusing these elements together allows the entire shape to be represented. The curve orientation is already preserved by considering the fusion as a graph traversal problem. The method provides promising results, validated by experts and approved by simulation.

Abstract: International audience; The present paper deals with how to design and test an eco-driving training tool in the form of a digital educational game, including a specific guidance system interface to teach eco-driving rules. We tested whether learners could reproduce the eco-driving behaviour and implement the rules once they were autonomous. We also aimed to validate the method as a relevant eco-driving teaching tool that does not distract drivers or affect safety behaviour. We examined the contribution of the guidance system to teach procedural skills compared with traditional teaching methods such as video instruction. Results reveal that both methods lead to reduced CO2 emissions, but that the reduction is greater with the interactive guidance system. Further analysis and an eye-movement study revealed no increase in driving time or effect on safety.

Abstract: International audience; Driving distraction is a topic of great interest in the transport safety-research community, because it is now a primary cause of road accidents. A recent report has revealed that distraction is more alarming than previously thought, and a suitable measurement to effectively detect distraction is required. Most agree that driving distraction actually comprises the simultaneous interaction of two or more types of distraction. The purpose of this paper is, therefore, to determine the promising method for measuring visual cognitive distraction. We discuss the five common measurement methods for visual and cognitive driving distraction, which include driving performance, driver physical measures, driver biological measures, subjective reports, and hybrid measures. Hybrid measurement of driver's physical measures (e.g., eye movement) and driver's biological measures (e.g., electroencephalogram) is better than other methods at detecting types of visual cognitive distraction. This new perspective on measurement methods will help the field of transport safety to determine the best means of detecting and measuring the effect of visual cognitive distraction.

Abstract: International audience; The Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) is used in the case of neurological disorders (paralyzed muscles) or the muscle reinforcement (sportsmen). A recent model was proposed coupling a force model and a fatigue model. Based on the specific structure of the model, we present a predictive control scheme using online estimation of the fatigue variables with a nonlinear observer. It is numerically tested in a preliminary study.

Abstract: International audience; In this paper we present minimal solutions for two-view relative motion estimation based on a homography formulation. By assuming a known vertical direction (e.g. from an IMU) and assuming a dominant ground plane we demonstrate that rotation and translation estimation can be decoupled. This result allows us to reduce the number of point matches needed to compute a motion hypothesis. We then derive different algorithms based on this decoupling that allow an efficient estimation. We also demonstrate how these algorithms can be used efficiently to compute an optimal inlier set using exhaustive search or histogram voting instead of a traditional RANSAC step. Our methods are evaluated on synthetic data and on the KITTI data set, demonstrating that our methods are well suited for visual odometry in road driving scenarios.

Abstract: We evaluated the performance characteristics of a prototype preclinical PET scanner available as an easy clippable assembly that can dock to an MRI system. The single ring version of the PET system consists of eight detectors, each of which comprises a 12 × 12 silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) array coupled with a dual layer of offset scintillation crystals to measure depth of interaction. The crystal arrays have 29 × 29 (30 × 30 for the outer layer) 4 mm long LYSO crystals (6 mm for the outer layer). The ring diameter is 119.2 mm and the axial field of view is 50.4 mm. The NEMA NU 4-2008 protocol was followed for studying the PET performance. Temperature stability of SiPMs was also investigated. The peak system absolute sensitivity was 4.70% with an energy window of 250-750 keV. The spatial resolution was 1.28/1.88/1.85 mm FWHM (radial/tangential/axial) at a distance of 5 mm from the center. Peak noise equivalent counting rate and scatter fraction for mouse phantom were 61.9 kcps at 14.9 MBq and 21.0%, respectively. The uniformity was 6.3% and the spill-over ratios in the images of the water-and air-filled chambers were 0.07 and 0.17, respectively. Recovery coefficients ranged from 0.13 to 0.96. Change in sensitivity as a function of ambient temperature was 0.3%/°C. These first results indicate excellent spatial resolution performance for use with animal studies. Moreover, the clippable assembly can be upgraded to accept a second ring of SiPMs modules, leading to improved sensitivity and axial coverage.

Abstract: International audience; Many fields of application could benefit from an accurate registration of measurements of different modalities over a known 3D model. However, aligning a 2D image to a 3D model is a challenging task and is even more complex when the two have a different modality. Most of the 2D/3D registration methods are based on either geometric or dense visual features. Both have their own advantages and their own drawbacks. We propose, in this paper, to mutually exploit the advantages of one feature type to reduce the drawbacks of the other one. For this, an hybrid registration framework has been designed to mutually align geometrical and dense visual features in order to obtain an accurate final 2D/3D alignment. We evaluate and compare the proposed registration method on real data acquired by a robot equipped with several visual sensors. The results highlights the robustness of the method and its ability to produce wide convergence domain and a high registration accuracy.

Abstract: International audience; Multispectral image modalities can offer high accuracy performance to the biometric systems by improving the discrimination along the spectral dimension. However, its adoptions are usually challenged by low signal to noise ratio, inter band misalignment, high data volume and computational efficiency. This paper presents a fast multispectral palmprint biometric technique using partial least square regression model and score-level fusion, with which an embedded recognition and verification system is implemented for evaluation. Our experiments are conducted using the PolyU palmprint database, and the results demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve a higher accuracy and a lower running cost compared to the reference implementations dedicated to the real-time and/or embedded applications. The performance measurement of mobilemanipulators, including a mobile base with an onboard robot arm, is virtually non-existent.However, mobile manipulators are beginning to appear in manufacturing, healthcare, andpossibly other industries and therefore, a method to measure their performance is critical toboth manufacturers and users of these relatively complex systems. Measurements of mobilemanipulators performing standard tasks (poses and motions) are also non-existent except forsimply ensuring that the task has been more or less completed. The task chosen for thisthesis is assembly due to its requirement for relatively precise system posing.Performance test methods have lagged behind safety test methods for mobile manipulatorswhich is progressing towards development of a new safety standard in the US. Metrics forsafety and performance of mobile manipulators include many areas, such as: safe operation,task completion, time to complete the task, quality, and quantity (i.e., accuracy andrepeatability, respectively) of tasks completed. Prior to industrial acceptance and standardsdevelopment for mobile manipulators, users of these new systems will expect manufacturersto provide real performance data to guide their procurement and assure suitability for givenapplication tasks. Due to the relatively high cost to procure and setup motion tracking systemsto measure systems performance, an alternative method for use by manufacturers and users isideal. A new test method concept that uses an artifact, called the Reconfigurable MobileManipulator Artifact (RMMA), is described in this thesis and compared to an optical trackingsystem that was used as ground truth for the RMMA and mobile manipulator.System modeling the mobile manipulator system, components, and the associatedmeasurements can help to improve the understanding of these relatively complex systems.Systems Modeling Language (SysML) was chosen and used throughout this thesis becauseof SysML has reusable software modules for structure, behavior, requirements andparametrics off the mobile manipulator. The models describe the many aspects ofmeasuring mobile manipulator performance also as new research area. The models wereevaluated through experiments on an example mobile manipulator components and the entiresystem. SysML was used to describe the theoretical basis of the performance throughpropagation of uncertainty where mathematical equations are also modeled.A use case is modeled and described where the concepts researched to measure mobilemanipulator performance are applied to a manufacturing implementation. The simplisticnature of the measurement process using the RMMA can be directly applied to today’smanufacturing processes, and extended beyond the contributions of this research to othereven more complex measurement needs. The research is also discussed to even apply tocross-industry test methods for exoskeletons worn by humans., Une approche avancée de la fabrication flexible consiste à déplacer des manipulateurs robotisés AGV ou robot mobile, appelé manipulateurs mobiles, entre les postes de travail. L'utilisation de manipulateurs mobiles peuvent être avantageux dans un certain nombre de situations. Abstract: This paper presents an optimized wave kernel signature (OWKS) using a modified particle swarm optimization (MPSO) algorithm. The variance parameter and its setting mode play a central role in this kernel. In order to circumvent a purely arbitrary choice of the internal parameters of the WKS algorithm, we present a four-step feature descriptor framework in an effort to further improve the classical wave kernel signature (WKS) by acting on its variance parameter. The advantage of the enhanced method comes from the tuning of the variance parameter using MPSO and the selection of the first vector from the constructed OWKS at its first energy scale, thus giving rise to substantially better matching and retrieval accuracy for deformable 3D shape. The special choice of this vector is to extremely reinforce the stability for efficient salient features extraction method from the 3D meshes. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed shape classification and retrieval approach in comparison with state-of-the-art methods. For instance, in terms of the nearest neighbor (NN) metric, the OWKS achieves a 96.9% score, with performance improvements of 83.5 and 90.4% over the baseline methods WKS and heat kernel signature, respectively.

Abstract: International audience; This paper proposes a basic structured light system for pose estimation. It consists of a circular laser pattern and a camera rigidly attached to the laser source. We develop a geometric modeling that allows to efficiently estimate the pose at scale of the system, relative to a reference plane onto which the pattern is projected. Three different robust estimation strategies, including two minimal solutions are also presented with this geometric formulation. Synthetic and real experiments are performed for a complete evaluation, both quantitatively and qualitatively, according to different scenarios and environments. We also show that the system can be embedded for UAV experiments.

Abstract: International audience; In this paper, we propose a new stereo matching algorithm able to reconstruct efficiently a dense disparity maps from few sparse disparity measurements. The algorithm is initialized by sampling the reference image using the Simple Linear Iterative Clustering (SLIC) superpixel method. Then, a sparse disparity map is generated only for the obtained boundary pixels. The reconstruction of the entire disparity map is obtained through the scanline propagation method. Outliers were effectively removed using an adaptive vertical median filter. Experimental results were conducted on the standard and the new Middlebury datasets show that the proposed method produces high-quality dense disparity results.

Abstract: International audience; In this work, we propose to reformulate the objective function of Independent Component Analysis (ICA) to make it a better posed problem in the context of Remote photoplethysmography (rPPG). In recent previous works, linear combination coefficients of RGB channels are estimated maximizing the non-Gaussianity of ICA output components. However, in the context of rPPG a priori knowledge of the pulse signal can be incorporated into the component extraction algorithm. To this end, the contrast function of regular ICA is extended with a measure of periodicity formulated using autocorrelation. This novel semi-blind source extraction method for measuring rPPG has the interesting property of being free from manual parameter adjustment. The tedious selection of the step-size parameter in the gradient-ascent algorithm has been advantageously replaced by an adaptive step size. Our method has been validated against our large in-house video database UBFC-RPPG.

Abstract: Background Remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) has been in the forefront recently for measuring cardiac pulse rates from live or recorded videos. It finds advantages in scenarios requiring remote monitoring, such as medicine and fitness, where contact based monitoring is limiting and cumbersome. The blood volume pulse, defined as the pulsative flow of arterial blood, gives rise to periodic changes in the skin color which are then quantified to estimate a temporal signal. This temporal signal can be analysed using various methods to extract the representative cardiac signal. Methods We present a novel method for measuring rPPG signals using constrained independent component analysis (cICA). We incorporate a priori information into the cICA algorithm to aid in the extraction of the most prominent rPPG signal. This a priori information is implemented using two constraints: first, based on periodicity using autocorrelation, and second, a chrominance-based constraint exploiting the physical characteristics of the skin. Results and conclusion Our method showed improved performances over traditional blind source separation methods like ICA and chrominance based methods with mean absolute errors of 0.62 beats per minute (BPM) and 3.14 BPM for the two datasets in our inhouse video database UBFC-RPPG, and 4.69 BPM for the public MMSE-HR dataset. Its performance was also better in comparison to other state of the art methods in terms of accuracy and robustness. Our UBFC-RPPG database is also made publicly available and is specifically aimed towards testing rPPG measurements.

Abstract: The humanity has always learned from the previous experiences for many reasons. The national heritage proves to be a great way to discover a nation's history. As a result, these priceless cultural items have a special attention. However, Since the wide adoption of new digital technologies, documenting, storing, and exhibiting cultural heritage assets became more affordable and reliable. These digital records are then used in several applications. Researchers saw the opportunity to use digital heritage recordings for long-term preservation. In this paper, we present the research progress in cultural heritage digital processing and preservation, highlighting the most impactful advances. Additionally, we present the CEPROQHA project which is based on a new approach aiming at achieving cost-effective acquisition and digital preservation for cultural heritage artifacts in Qatar. - 2017 IEEE. Abstract: International audience; Several researches have been conducted to recognize emotions using various modalities such as facial expressions , gestures, speech or physiological signals. Among all these modalities, physiological signals are especially interesting because they are mainly controlled by the autonomic nervous system. It has been shown for example that there is an undeniable relationship between emotional state and Heart Rate Variability (HRV). In this paper, we present a methodology to monitor emotional state from physiological signals acquired remotely. The method is based on a remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) algorithm that estimates remote Heart Rate Variability (rHRV) using a simple camera. We first show that the rHRV signal can be estimated with a high accuracy (more than 96% in frequency domain). Then, frequency-feature of rHRV is calculated and we show that there is a strong correlation between the rHRV feature and different emotional states. This observation has been validated on 12 out of 16 volunteers and video-induced emotions which opens the way to contactless monitoring of emotions from physiological signals.

Abstract: We study the computational complexity of Power Edge Set (PES), for restricted graph classes with degree bounded by three (bipartite graph, Unit disk graphs and Grid graphs). This problem is devoted to the monitoring of an electric network. The aim is to minimize the number of edge-allocated PMUs in a network such that all vertices are monitored according to two spreading rules. We improve known complexity results using an L-reduction. We also derive some lowers bounds according to classic complexity hypothesis (\(\mathcal {P} \ne \mathcal {NP}\), \(\mathcal {UGC}\), \(\mathcal {ETH}\)).

Abstract: Nowadays, CMOS image sensors are almost exclusively architectured around analog pixels. A transition to purely digital pixels would significantly improve the performances of imagers. Unfortunately, such an approach is difficult to consider because it causes an oversized and unusable pixel for the consumer market. One of the promising ways to solve this problem of pixel integration is to think not only in 2D dimensions, but in 3D dimensions by distributing the different functionalities on several interconnected wafers.Thus, the work presented in this manuscript describes the design of a purely digital image sensor in CMOS 3D-IC 130 nm Tezzaron technology. This sensor is architectured around a digital pixel integrating a first order sigma delta modulation on 10 bits of maximum resolution. The exhaustive study of the different blocks constituting the pixel allowed us to finally propose a solution guaranteeing a contained surface of silicon: final pixel size of 32.5 μm × 32.5 μm with a fill factor of at least 80 %. Regarding performances, the pixel simulations showed good results: 11 μA/pixel consumption, 60 dB signal-to-noise ratio, 7.2 effective number of bits, maximum and minimum differential nonlinearity of +1,37/-0,73 (for 10 bits) and a maximum and minimum integral nonlinearity of + 2,447/-3,5 (for 10 bits).; Aujourd’hui, les capteurs d’image CMOS sont quasi exclusivement architecturés autour de pixels analogiques. Une transition vers des pixels purement numériques permettrait d’améliorer significativement les performances des imageurs. Malheureusement, une telle approche est difficilement envisageable car elle entraine un pixel surdimensionné et inutilisable pour le marché grand public. Une des voies prometteuses pour résoudre ce problème d’intégration des pixels est de réfléchir non plus en deux dimensions (2D), mais en trois dimensions (3D), en répartissant les différentes fonctionnalités sur plusieurs wafers interconnectés.Ainsi, les travaux présentés dans ce manuscrit décrivent la conception d’un capteur d’image purement numérique en technologie CMOS 3D-IC 130 nm Tezzaron. Ce capteur est architecturé autour d’un pixel numérique intégrant une modulation sigma delta du premier ordre sur 10 bits de résolution maximale. L’étude exhaustive des différents blocs constituant le pixel nous a permis de proposer au final une solution garantissant une surface maitrisée de silicium : taille finale de pixel de 32,5 μm × 32,5 μm pour un facteur de remplissage de plus de 80 %. Abstract: International audience; The term " disaster management " comprises both natural and man-made disasters. Highly pervaded with various types of sensors, our environment generates large amounts of data. Thus, big data applications in the field of disaster management should adopt a modular view, going from a component to nation scale. Current research trends mainly aim at integrating component, building, neighborhood and city levels, neglecting the region level for managing disasters. Current research on big data mainly address smart buildings and smart grids, notably in the following areas: energy waste management, prediction and planning of power generation needs, improved comfort, usability and endurance based on the integration of energy consumption data, environmental conditions and levels of occupancy. This paper aims presenting a systematic literature review on the applications of big data in disaster management. The paper will first presents the visual definition of disaster management and describes big data; it will then illustrate the findings and gives future recommendations after a systematic literature review.

Abstract: International audience; Snapshot multispectral cameras that are equipped with filter arrays acquire a raw image that represents the radiance of a scene over the electromagnetic spectrum at video rate. These cameras require a demosaicing procedure to estimate a multispectral image with full spatio-spectral definition. Such a procedure is based on spectral correlation properties that are sensitive to illumination. In this paper, we first highlight the influence of illumination on demosaicing performances. Then we propose camera-, illumination-, and raw image-based normalisations that make demosaicing robust to illumination. Experimental results on state-of-the-art demosaicing algorithms show that such normalisations improve the quality of multispectral images estimated from raw images acquired under various illuminations.

Abstract: The purpose of this manuscript is to exhibit the research work solving the issue of data processing stem from defect localization techniques. This step being decisive in the failure analysis process, scientists have to harness data coming from light emission and laser techniques. Nevertheless, this analysis process is sequential and only depends on the expert’s decision. This factor leads to a not quantified probability of localization. Consequently to solve these issues, a multimodal and multicriteria analysis has been developped, taking advantage of the heterogeneous andcomplementary nature of light emission and laser probing techniques. This kind of process is based on advanced level tools such as signal/image processing and data fusion. The final aim being to provide a quantitive and qualitative decision help for the experts.The first part of this manuscript is dedicated to the description of the entire process for 1D and 2D data enhancement. Thereafter, the spatio-temporal analysis of laser probing waveforms will be tackled. Finally, the last part highlights the decision support brought by data fusion., Ce manuscrit de thèse illustre l’ensemble des travaux de recherche répondant aux problématiques de traitement des données issues des techniques de localisation de défauts. Cette phase de localisation étant une étape déterminante dans le processus d’analyse de défaillances des circuits submicroniques, il est primordial que l’analyste exploite les résultats de l’émission de lumière et du sondage laser. Cependant, ce procédé d’expertise reste séquentiel et dépend uniquement du jugement de l’expert. Cela induit une probabilité de localisation non quantifiée. Afin de pallier cesdifférents défis, nous avons développé tout au long de cette thèse, une méthodologie d’analyse multimodale et multicritères exploitant le caractère hétérogène et complémentaire des techniques d’émission de lumière et de sondage laser. Ce type d’analyse reposera sur des outils de haut niveau tels que le traitement du signal et la fusion de données, pour au final apporter une aide décisionnelle à l’expert à la fois qualitative et quantitative.Dans un premier temps, nous détaillerons l’ensemble des traitements utilisés en post-acquisition pour l’amélioration des données 1D et 2D. Par la suite, l’analyse spatio-temporelle des données en sondage laser sera explicitée. L’aide décisionnelle fera l’objet de la dernière partie de ce manuscrit, illustrant la méthode de fusion de données utilisée ainsi que des résultats de validation.

Abstract: International audience; In co-located collaborative environment for product design, new groupware of multi-view system allows multiple experts to have individual visual information. A co-located multi-view VR system and a multidisciplinary task have been created and studied. Results show that using multi-view VR system achieves a better effectiveness and user performance. Then, an application for collaborative ergonomic design is explored and an industrial multidisciplinary scenario is realized with proposed system.

Abstract: Visual localization is widely used in autonomous navigation system and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). However, visual-based localization in seasonal changing situations is one of the most challenging topics in computer vision and the intelligent vehicle community. The difficulty of this task is related to the strong appearance changes that occur in scenes due to weather or season changes. In this paper, a place recognition based visual localization method is proposed, which realizes the localization by identifying previously visited places using the sequence matching method. It operates by matching query image sequences to an image database acquired previously (video acquired during traveling period). In this method, in order to improve matching accuracy, multi-feature is constructed by combining a global GIST descriptor and local binary feature CSLBP (Center-symmetric local binary patterns) to represent image sequence. Then, similarity measurement according to Chi-square distance is used for effective sequences matching. For experimental evaluation, the relationship between image sequence length and sequences matching performance is studied. To show its effectiveness, the proposed method is tested and evaluated in four seasons outdoor environments. The results have shown improved precision–recall performance against the state-of-the-art SeqSLAM algorithm.

Abstract: International audience; Democratization of 3D sensor devices makes 3D maps building easier especially in long term mapping and autonomous navigation. In this paper we present a new method for summarizing a 3D map (dense cloud of 3D points). This method aims to extract a summary map facilitating the use of this map by navigation systems with limited resources (smartphones, cars, robots...). This Vision-based summarizing process is applied in a fully automatic way using the photometric, geometric and semantic information of the studied environment.

Abstract: International audience; The management of localized prostate cancer has been marked over these last years by the importance of Active Surveillance for low risk forms. Indeed, the long follow-up and the quality of the results are now sufficient to offer this option even in relatively young people. However, the question is still under investigation concerning intermediate risk of prostate cancer. Patients’ selection and follow-up management are of very high importance. Another major evolution is the robotic assistance for radical prostatectomy. Even if the level of evidence is still low, the global utilization all over the world of robotic assistance is a major fact of these last years mostly explained by the difficulty to correctly perform manual laparoscopic surgical procedure. Lastly, the focal therapy of prostate cancer is a new concept. The development of this approach is authorized by the improvement of the quality of prostate MRI and the accuracy of prostate biopsy. Presently, the focal treatment has to be performed in clinical trials or maybe with the help of national database validated by all the actors concerned by the treatment of prostate cancer.; La prise en charge chirurgicale du cancer de la prostate localisé a été marquée ces dernières années par la place prépondérante de la surveillance active dans les formes de cancer à faible risque. En effet, le recul et la qualité des résultats sont maintenant suffisants pour proposer cette option à des patients relativement jeunes. En revanche, la question reste posée pour les formes intermédiaires. De plus, une extrême vigilance est indispensable pour la qualité de la sélection et du suivi des patients pour la surveillance active. Une autre évolution est l’importance prise par l’assistance robotique dans la prostatectomie totale. Même si le niveau de preuve en faveur du robot reste faible, son utilisation de plus en plus universelle est un fait indéniable qui répond vraisemblablement à la difficulté chirurgicale de cette intervention. Enfin, le concept du traitement focal du cancer de la prostate est en pleine évolution, sans doute lié à la qualité de l’IRM et la précision des biopsies de la prostate. Actuellement, le traitement focal du cancer de la prostate ne doit se faire que dans le cadre de la recherche clinique et/ou peut être par le biais de registres nationaux et validés par les différents acteurs intervenant dans la prise en charge des patients.

Abstract: International audience; Brachytherapy as sole treatment is standard of care for D’Amico classification low-risk prostate cancer. For intermediate and high-risk patients, brachytherapy can be associated to external beam radiation therapy to better take into account the risk of extracapsular effraction and/or seminal vesicle involvement. Three randomized studies have shown that this association increases freedom from relapse survival compared to exclusive external beam radiation therapy. This benefit is not shown for overall survival. The addition of a hormonal therapy to this association is most likely mandatory for high-risk patients, and needs to be confirmed for intermediate risk patients. Both high-dose rate and low-dose rate brachytherapy are suitable with similar biochemical disease free survival rates. High-dose rate brachytherapy seems to have a better genitourinary tolerance profile, while low-dose rate brachytherapy is an easier process and has a more widespread expertise.; La curiethérapie exclusive est un traitement standard des cancers de prostate de bas risque selon la classification de D’Amico. Pour les cancers de risque intermédiaire à haut risque, il est proposé de l’associer à une radiothérapie externe afin de mieux prendre en compte le risque d’effraction capsulaire et/ou d’atteinte des vésicules séminales. Trois études randomisées ont montré que cette association améliorait la probabilité de survie sans récidive, par rapport à une radiothérapie externe exclusive. Ce bénéfice n’a pas été retrouvé en termes de survie globale. L’association d’une hormonothérapie est certainement nécessaire pour les cancers à haut risque. Sa place reste clairement à définir pour les cancers de prostate de risque intermédiaire pris en charge par cette association de radiothérapie externe et de curiethérapie. Les techniques de curiethérapie de haut ou de bas débit de dose sont adaptées, avec des résultats similaires en termes de contrôle biochimique. Le haut débit semble avoir un profil de tolérance urinaire meilleur. Le bas débit a l’avantage de l’expertise d’un plus grand nombre de centres et de la simplicité.Abstract

Abstract: International audience; Dissimilarity or distance metrics are the cornerstone of shape matching and retrieval algorithms. As there is no unique dissimilarity measure that gives good performances in all possible configurations, these metrics are usually combined to provide reliable results. In this paper we propose to compute the best linear convex, or weighted, combination of any set of measured shape distances to enhance shape matching algorithms. To do so, a database is represented as a graph, where nodes are shapes and the edges carry the convex combination of dissimilarity measures. Weights are chosen to maximize the weighted distances between the query shape and shapes in the database. The optimal weights are solutions of a linear programming problem. This fully unsupervised method improves the outcomes of any set of shape similarity measures as shown in our experimental results performed on several popular 3D shape benchmarks. Abstract: In this thesis, we analyze the conditions of existence of the phenomenon of nonlinear supratransmission in two different models: a modified fifth-order Klein-Gordon system and a modified sine-Gordon system. The modified models considered here are those with mixed coupling, the pure linear coupling being associated with a nonlinear coupling. In particular, we quantify numerically the influence of the non-linear coupling coefficient on the threshold amplitude which triggers the phenomenon of non-linear supratransmission. Our main result shows that in both models, when the nonlinear coupling coefficient increases, the threshold amplitude triggering the phenomenon of nonlinear supratransmission decreases., Dans cette thèse, nous faisons l'analyse des conditions d'existence du phénomène de supratransmission non linéaire dans deux modèles différents: un système de Klein-Gordon de cinquième ordre modifié et un système de sine-Gordon modifié. Les modèles modifiés considérés ici sont ceux avec couplage mixte, le couplage linéaire pur étant associé à un couplage non linéaire. En particulier, nous quantifions numériquement l'influence du coefficient de couplage non linéaire sur l'amplitude de seuil qui déclenche le phénomène de supratransmission non-linéaire. Notre résultat principal montre que, dans les deux modèles, lorsque le coefficient de couplage non linéaire augmente, l'amplitude de seuil déclenchant le phénomène de supratransmission non linéaire diminue.

Abstract: The integration of virtualized FPGA-based hardware accelerators in a cloud computing is progressing from time to time. As the FPGA has limited resources, the dynamic partial reconfiguration capability of the FPGA is considered to share resources among different virtualized IPs during runtime. On the other hand, the NoC is a promising solution for communication among virtualized FPGA-based IPs. However, not all the virtualized regions of the FPGA will be active all the time. When there is no demand for virtualized IPs, the virtualized regions are loaded with blank bitstreams to save power. However, keeping active the idle components of the NoC connecting with the idle virtualized regions is not optimal for the total power consumption. In this paper, we have proposed a runtime scalable NoC where the NoC size is scaled up and down on demand. The experimental result shows that the total power consumption of the NoC can be reduced by more than 15% if the runtime scalable Noc is used.

Abstract: International audience; This article presents a work in progress of using augmented reality as a way to help handling computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools. Several reasons justify the use of augmented reality in machine tools: (i) a high complexity of using such machines, especially for beginners; (ii) low ergonomics since the operator has to move continuously between the machine window and a control screen to ensure smooth operations; (iii) the window is often obstructed by the lubricant, therefore the operator must often rely only on information displayed by the control screen; (iv) a non-user-friendly interface of the machine; and (v) a complex maintenance operation.In this work, a prototype of a system allowing an operator to improve its working conditions and better handle CNC machines using ar devices is proposed. These devices are positioned in front of the machine, connect to it and display real-time information, such as the operating conditions and a 3D representation of the cutting tool motion. A user interface was also designed to manage operators’ profiles with customized information. The system was tested by several users who confirmed its potentialities to assist machine operators in their work. Other possibilities of this system are under investigation, such as a training tool for beginners and a guide for machine maintenance.

Abstract: International audience; Photoplethysmography and Ballistocardiography are two concepts that are used to measure heart rate from human, by using facial videos. Heart rate estimation is essential to determine the physiological and pathological state of a person. This paper presents a critical review of digital camera based heart rate estimating method on facial skin. This review extends the investigation on to the principles and theory behind photoplethysmography and ballistocardiography. The article contains reviews on the significance of the methods and contributions to overcome challenges such as; poor signal strength, illumination variance, and motion variance. The experiments were conducted to validate the state of the art methods on a challenging database that is available publicly. The implemented methods were validated using the database, on 27 subjects for a range of skin tones from pearl white, fair, olive to black. The results were computed using statistical methods such as: mean error, standard deviation, the root mean square error, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Bland-Altman analysis. The results derived from the experiments showed the reliability of the state of the art methods and provided direction to improve for situations involving illumination variance and motion variance. Abstract: International audience; BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to assess the relevance of physiological In-octreotide uptake in the head of pancreas and to establish its imaging features in comparison with pathological uptake in patients with neuroendocrine tumors (NET).PATIENTS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed all patients that underwent In-octreotide single-photon emission tomography (SPECT) scintigraphy in our institution. Only patients with an isolated uptake in the head of the pancreas were included. In-octreotidescintigraphy consisted in planar whole-body and abdominal SPECT/computed tomography (CT) images acquired at 6 and 30 h' postinjection. Different imaging features of the pancreatic focalized uptake were assessed: its precise location on the pancreas head, shape, intensity [visually and quantitatively by calculating the pancreatic to hepatic uptake ratio (L/H ratio)] and intensity changes.RESULTS: Thirteen patients out of 230 were included. Among them, a pancreatic NET was confirmed in five patients. On In-octreotide SPECT/CT, two of these had uptake located in the uncinate process, and three had uptake focused in the right lateral borders or in the whole head. SPECT images demonstrated high uptake (L/H ratio >2) in four patients out of five. In the eight remaining patients, pancreatic NET was ruled out. For all of these physiological cases, SPECT/CT acquisitions revealed that the uptake was both located in the uncinate process and with an L/H ratio below 2.CONCLUSION: The simple criteria of localization and uptake quantification can help to discriminate between a possible physiological uptake in the uncinate process of the pancreatic head and a pathological uptake induced by a NET.

Abstract: International audience; In recent years, data centers have witnessed an exponential growth for hosting hundreds of thousands of servers as well as to accommodating a very large demand for resources. To fulfill the required level of demand, some approaches tackled network aspects so to host a huge number of servers while others focused on delivering rapid services to the clients by minimizing the path length between any two servers. In general, network devices are often designed to achieve 1:1 oversubscription. Alternatively, in a realistic data center environment, the average utilization of a network could vary between 5% and 25%, and thus the energy consumed by idle devices is wasted. This paper proposes a new parameterizable data center topology, called PTNet. PTNet offers a gradual scalability that interconnects small to large networks covering different ranges of sizes. This new interconnection network provides also a small path length between any two servers even in large sized data centers. PTNet does not only reduce path length and latency, it also uses a power-aware routing algorithm which saves up to 40% of energy with an acceptable computation time. In comparison to existing solutions (e.g. Flatnet, BCube, DCell and Fat-tree), PTNet shows substantial improvements in terms of capacity, robustness, cost-effectiveness and power efficiency: this improvement reaches up to 50% in some cases. Abstract: International audience; Improved bifunctional chelating agents (BFC) are required for copper-64 radiolabelling of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) under mild conditions to yield stable, target-specific imaging agents. Four different bifunctional chelating agents (BFC) were evaluated for Fab (Fragment antigen binding) conjugation and radiolabelling with copper-64. Two DOTA- (1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetic acid) and two NOTA- (1,4,7-triazacyclononane-1,4,7-triacetic acid) derivatives bearing a p-benzyl-isothiocyanate group were conjugated to Fab-trastuzumab - which targets the HER2/neu receptor - and the average number of chelators attached ranged from 2.4 to 4.3 macrocycles per Fab. Labelling of the immunoconjugate with copper-64 was achieved in high radiochemical yields after 45 min at 37 °C, and the radiochemical purity of each (64)Cu-BFC-Fab-trastuzumab reached 97% after purification. The affinity of each (64)Cu-BFC-Fab-trastuzumab ranged between 10 and 50 nM as evaluated by in vitro saturation assays using the HCC1954 breast cancer cell line. PET-MR imaging and biodistribution studies were performed in mice bearing breast cancer BT-474 xenografts. BT-474 tumours were clearly visualized on PET images at 4 and 24 hours post-injection. The tumour uptake of (64)Cu-BFC-Fab-trastuzumab reached 8.9 to 12.8% ID g(-1) 24 hours post-injection and significant differences in non-specific liver uptake were observed depending on the BFC conjugated, the lowest being observed with MANOTA. These results show that MANOTA is a valuable tool for copper-64 radiolabelling.

Abstract: Nowadays, data centers are designed to offer the highest performance in case of high traffic load and peak utilisation of the network. However, in a realistic data center environment, the peak capacity of the network is rarely reached and the average utilisation of devices varies between 5% and 25% which results into a huge loss of energy since most of the time links and servers are idle or under-utilized. The high impact of this wasted power on environmental effects, energy needs and electricity costs raised the concerns to seek for an efficient solution to make data centers more power effective while keeping the desired quality of service. In this paper, we propose a power-aware routing algorithm that saves a considerable amount of energy with a negligible trade-off on the performance of the network and a guaranteed reliability of the system. The key idea is to keep active only the vital and critical nodes participating in the communication traffic and ensuring the reliability while the unneeded devices are turned-off. Vital nodes between clusters (parts of the network) are calculated only once during the initialization of the system and consequently used with a constant time complexity. Besides its short computation time, our routing algorithm guarantees over 50% of energy saving by maintaining the minimum number of needed devices and over 20% when adding backup routes. This power efficiency is accompanied by a guaranteed performance and reliability against failures. 1 2017 Elsevier B.V. Scopus

Abstract: International audience; In time varying data communication networks (TVCN), traffic congestion, system utility maximization and network performance enhancement are the prominent issues. All these issues can be resolved either by optimizing the network structure or by selecting efficient routing approaches. In this paper, we focus on the design of a time varying network model and propose an algorithm to find efficient user route in this network. Centrality plays a very important role in finding congestion free routes. Indeed, the more a node is central, the more it can be congested by the flow coming from or going to its neighborhood. For that reason, classically, routes are chosen such that the sum of centrality of the nodes coming in user’s route is minimum. In this paper, we show that closeness centrality outperforms betweenness centrality in the case of community structured time varying networks. Furthermore, Kelly’s optimization formulation for a rate allocation problem is used in order to compute optimal rates of distinct users at different time instants.

Abstract: International audience; Background: In recent years, there has been a rapid rise in the use of shape priors applied to segmentation process of medical images. Previous approaches on left ventricle segmentation from Delayed-Enhancement Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DE-MRI) have focused on the extraction of myocardium or just diseased region in short axis orientation. However these studies did not take into account the segmentation of non-diseased myocardium from DE-MRI. The segmentation of non-diseased myocardium from DE-MRI, has some useful applications. For instance it can simplify the PET-MR registration process.Methods: This paper presents a novel semi-automatic segmentation method of non-diseased myocardium contours from DE-MRI based on watershed algorithm with shape priors application. The segmentation process was performed on long and short axis DE-MR images, acquired from patients with different cardiac diseases.Results: Segmented images were compared with gold standard contours performed by an experienced user. To assess our results the Dice Coefficient (DC) and Root Mean Square Distance (RMSD) were computed. The best value of these parameters was obtained for four cavity images (RMSD = 1.68 +/- 0.47 mm, DC = 0.78), and the computed value for two cavity images (RMSD = 1.93 +/- 0.38 mm, DC = 0.73) and short axis images (RMSD = 1.89 +/- 0.47 mm, DC = 0.71) were slightly lower.Conclusion: In conclusion, We have proposed a novel solution for non-diseased myocardium segmentation from DE-MRI, which brought very promising results. Abstract: International audience; Using the theory of bifurcation, we provide and find gap soliton dynamics in a nonlinear Klein-Gordon model with anharmonic, cubic, and quartic interactions immersed in a parametrized on-site substrate potential. The case of a deformable substrate potential allows theoretical adaptation of the model to various physical situations. Nonconvex interactions in lattice systems lead to a number of interesting phenomena that cannot be produced with linear coupling alone. By investigating the dynamical behavior and bifurcations of solutions of the planar dynamical systems, we derive a variety of exotic solutions corresponding to the phase trajectories under different parameter conditions. Moreover, we demonstrate how and why traveling waves lose their smoothness and develop into solutions with compact support or breaking.

Abstract: International audience; Reflectance Transformation Imaging is a recent technique allowing for the measurement and the modeling of one of the most influential parameters on the appearance of a surface, namely the angular reflectance, thanks to the change in the direction of the lighting during acquisition. From these photometric stereo images (discrete data), the angular reflectance is modeled to allow both interactive and continuous relighting of the inspected surface. Two families of functions, based on polynomials and on hemispherical harmonics, are cited and used in the literature at this aim, respectively, associated to the PTM and HSH techniques. In this paper, we propose a novel method called Discrete Modal Decomposition (DMD) based on a particular and appropriate Eigen basis derived from a structural dynamic problem. The performance of the proposed method is compared with the PTM and HSH results on three real surfaces showing different reflection behaviors. Comparisons are made in terms of both visual rendering and of statistical error (local and global). The obtained results show that the DMD is more efficient in that it allows for a more accurate modeling of the angular reflectance when light-matter interaction is complex such as the presence of shadows, specularities and inter-reflections.

Abstract: International audience; It has been observed in the nature that all creatures have evolved highly exclusive sensory organs depending on their habitat and the form of resources availability for their survival. In this project, a novel omnidirectional camera rig, inspired from natural vision sensors, is proposed. It is exclusively designed to operate for highly specified tasks in the field of mobile robotics. Navigation problems on uneven terrains and detection of the moving objects while the robot is itself in motion are the core problems that omnidirectional systems tackle. The proposed omnidirectional system is a compact and a rigid vision system with dioptric cameras that provide a 360° field of view in horizontal and vertical, with no blind spot in their site combined with a high-resolution stereo camera to monitor anterior field of view for a more accurate perception with depth information of the scene. Structure from motion algorithm is adapted and implemented to prove the design validity of the proposed camera rig, and a technique is developed to calibrate similar systems.
