Abstract: International audience; In conflictual parental separations, the child can take on the role of parent. Parentification is a frequent consequence of such situations. This article discusses the clinical case of a 12-year-old girl illustrating the link between her family situation and the phenomenon of parentification. Marie was taken into care in a medical-psychological centre following a treatment order issued by a juvenile court magistrate. In the midst of the conflictual separation of her parents, she emerged as her mother’s caregiver and confidante. She sought to help her mother by various means such as moral support, rejection of the father or breaking ties with her family. Court-mandated educational programmes, prevention programmes or discussions with parents in schools would thus seem to provide a welcome option to reduce parentification.; Au sein des séparations parentales conflictuelles, l’enfant peut adopter un rôle de parent. La parentification est une conséquence fréquente de ces situations. L’article présente le cas clinique d’une jeune fille de 12 ans illustrant l’articulation entre sa situation familiale et le phénomène de parentification. Marie est prise en charge en centre-médico-psychologique suite à une injonction de soin émise par le juge des enfants. Au sein de la séparation conflictuelle de ses parents, elle apparaît comme la soignante et la confidente de sa mère. Elle cherche à aider cette dernière par divers moyens tels que le soutien moral, le rejet du père ou encore la rupture de liens avec sa famille. Des programmes éducatifs mandatés par les tribunaux, des programmes de prévention ou des discussions avec les parents dans les écoles sembleraient pertinents afin de diminuer la parentification.

Abstract: International audience; The purpose of this study was to examine whether the presence of professional exhaustion among caregivers working in retirement homes leads to an increased perception of resident aggression and low satisfaction in the relationship between the caregiver and the resident. The data were collected from a sample of 52 nurses and caregivers working in retirement homes. We compared the perception of aggressiveness and relational satisfaction experienced by 26 caregivers with a professional exhaustion condition compared to 26 caregivers who did not have this condition.The questionnaire included the Maslach Burnout Inventory, Yudofsky's Manifest Aggression Scale, and Wilguski's Caregiver Satisfaction Scale.The results show that caregivers with professional exhaustion have a much greater perception of resident aggression. This perception of aggression engenders relational dissatisfaction with the resident. Professional exhaustion is therefore associated with higher perception of aggression and relational dissatisfaction.; L’objectif de cette étude est d’examiner si la présence d’épuisement professionnel chez les soignants travaillant en EHPAD entraîne une perception accrue de l’agressivité des résidents et une faible satisfaction dans la relation partagée entre le soignant et le résident. Les données ont été collectées dans un échantillon de 52 infirmiers et aides-soignants travaillant en EHPAD. Ainsi, nous avons comparé la perception de l’agressivité et la satisfaction relationnelle éprouvée par 26 soignants présentant de l’épuisement professionnel par rapport à 26 soignants n’en présentant pas.Le questionnaire comportait le Maslach Burnout Inventory, l’Echelle d’Agressivité Manifeste de Yudofsky et l’Echelle de satisfaction du soignant de Wilguski.Les résultats montrent que les soignants présentant de l’épuisement professionnel ont une perception plus accrue de l’agressivité des résidents. Cette perception de l’agressivité engendre une insatisfaction dans la relation partagée avec le résident. L’épuisement professionnel est donc associé à une perception plus élevée de l’agressivité et à une insatisfaction relationnelle avec le résident.

Abstract: Adolescent girls with anorexia nervosa suffer from body image-related disorders associated with an intense fear of gaining weight or being too fat, even when they have reached a weight far less than what is required for their age and height. This misperception of being too fat, associated with significant body dissatisfaction are symptoms of concern as they may counteract the effect of therapies. As the ideal and hoped-for body weight and body image are never achieved, this, in fact, would encourage the adolescent girls to persist in restrictive eating habits and behaviours aimed at reducing the body's energy intake. That is why it is important to pay attention to this perception bias. While most research has studied these symptoms as stemming from a distortion of conscious, emotional and aesthetic representation of the body (i.e. self-image), there is now some evidence to suggest that they may also be related to a distortion of representations more focussed on sensory-motor aspects of the body such as body image. As awareness of thinness is a prerequisite for a suc- cessful recovery process, therapies, in their programme, must not over- look techniques that focus on a better body image and greater body acceptance. Abstract: International audience; Objectives: This systematic review and meta-analysis sought to evaluate the efficacy of mindfulness-based programs (MBPs) on eating disorder (ED) symptoms and related outcomes such as BMI, body dissatisfaction, emotion regulation, and negative affect. It also examined moderators that predicted larger intervention effects.Methods: A search for studies evaluating such MBPs on participants with EDs was conducted in several online databases. In total, 23 articles were included in the systematic review and 22 in the meta-analysis (10 randomized controlled trials).Results: Results showed a within-condition effect of MBPs on ED symptoms, emotional eating, negative affect, and body dissatisfaction, and on BMI in anorectic and bulimic participants relative to pre-assessment. A significant within-condition effect sizes ranged from d = .62 (negative affect) to d = 1.05 (ED symptoms). Meta-regression analyses showed that participants with BED and women benefit more of MBPs on mindfulness skills and emotion regulation skills than participants with anorexia nervosa, bulimia, and men. A high risk of bias was correlated with a larger effect of MBPs on mindfulness skills and emotion regulation skills but a smaller effect on restrained eating. Longer treatment was correlated with a larger effect of MBPs on emotion regulation skills.Conclusions: Results indicated some positive correlations between MBPs and outcomes but a definitive conclusion cannot be drawn since these results are on within-condition effects and that half of the included studies did not have a control condition. Results identified moderators that may be useful to refine inclusion and exclusion criteria to target those most likely to benefit from MBPs. The field needs more rigorous studies with credible alternative interventions to confirm the efficacy of MBPs for ED patients.

Abstract: International audience; Specific attributes of a food product can cause it to be spontaneously but wrongly perceived as healthier than it really is (i.e., the health halo effect). Notably, there is preliminary evidence that individuals evaluate organic food as less caloric than regular, non-organic food. However, explanations regarding the cognitive mechanisms underlying the health halo effect remain scarce. Drawing from the implicit cognition literature, we hypothesize that this effect could be due to (a) the reactivation in memory of implicit positive evaluations and/or (b) the reactivation of a semantic association between the concepts "organic" and "non-caloric". We first conducted a 2 (Product label: organic versus non-organic) × continuous (Valence-IAT score) × continuous (Calorie-IAT score) study (N = 151) to test these hypotheses, and conducted a conceptual replication in a second study (N = 269). We computed Bayesian analyses alongside frequentist analyses in order to test for potential null hypotheses, as well as frequencies and Bayesian meta-regression including both datasets. Both methods provided consistent results. First, Bayesian analyses yielded extremely strong evidence in favor of the hypothesis that the organic label leads to an underestimation of caloric value. Second, they provided strong evidence that this effect is not moderated by implicit evaluations. Hence, we replicated the organic halo effect but showed that, surprisingly, it does not arise from implicit associations. We discuss these findings and propose directions for future research regarding the mechanisms underlying calories (under)estimation.

Abstract: International audience; IntroductionLa promotion de la santé mentale est encore assez peu connue des psychologues et insuffisamment portée par ceux-ci, notamment parce qu’elle s’appuie sur des concepts et des données issues de la Santé Publique. De plus, elle est portée par une approche dite « positive » de la santé — qui se distingue des modèles de déficits — dont le type d’intervention consiste à mobiliser le potentiel humain en amont afin d’éviter l’apparition d’un éventuel trouble psychiatrique.DiscussionL’enjeu actuel en matière de santé mentale implique ainsi un changement de paradigme chez les psychologues permettant de passer d’une action majoritairement curative à une action orientée vers les potentialités individuelles et collectives, les objectifs de ces deux champs étant complémentaires. Cet article présente une synthèse de déterminants de la santé mentale et de politiques publiques nationales et internationales ayant pour objet de favoriser la promotion de la santé.ConclusionL’article conclut sur la manière dont les psychologues pourraient devenir des acteurs essentiels de ce champ jusqu’à présent sous-investi par la profession.

Abstract: International audience; This study aims at examining the precise temporal dynamics of the emotional facial decoding as it unfolds in the brain, according to the emotions displayed. To characterize this processing as it occurs in ecological settings, we focused on unconstrained visual explorations of natural emotional faces (i.e., free eye movements). The General Linear Model (GLM; Smith and Kutas, 2015a,b; Kristensen et al., 2017a) enables such a depiction. It allows deconvolving adjacent overlapping responses of the eye fixation-related potentials (EFRPs) elicited by the subsequent fixations and the event-related potentials (ERPs) elicited at the stimuli onset. Nineteen participants were displayed with spontaneous static facial expressions of emotions (Neutral, Disgust, Surprise, and Happiness) from the DynEmo database (Tcherkassof et al., 2013). Behavioral results on participants’ eye movements show that the usual diagnostic features in emotional decoding (eyes for negative facial displays and mouth for positive ones) are consistent with the literature. The impact of emotional category on both the ERPs and the EFRPs elicited by the free exploration of the emotional faces is observed upon the temporal dynamics of the emotional facial expression processing. Regarding the ERP at stimulus onset, there is a significant emotion-dependent modulation of the P2–P3 complex and LPP components’ amplitude at the left frontal site for the ERPs computed by averaging. Yet, the GLM reveals the impact of subsequent fixations on the ERPs time-locked on stimulus onset. Results are also in line with the valence hypothesis. The observed differences between the two estimation methods (Average vs. GLM) suggest the predominance of the right hemisphere at the stimulus onset and the implication of the left hemisphere in the processing of the information encoded by subsequent fixations. Concerning the first EFRP, the Lambda response and the P2 component are modulated by the emotion of surprise compared to the neutral emotion, suggesting an impact of high-level factors, in parieto-occipital sites. Moreover, no difference is observed on the second and subsequent EFRP. Taken together, the results stress the significant gain obtained in analyzing the EFRPs using the GLM method and pave the way toward efficient ecological emotional dynamic stimuli analyses.

Abstract: Repetitive negative thinking (RNT) is a transdiagnostic process involved in the onset and maintenance of many psychological disorders. The Perseverative Thinking Questionnaire (Ehring et al., 2011) is a content-independent scale composed of 15 items that assesses RNT from a transdiagnostic perspective in both clinical and general populations. The aim of the current research was to translate and validate the French version of the PTQ through two studies (totalN= 1016) following the steps for the trans-cultural validation of psychometric instruments (Hambleton et al., 2006). An exploratory factor analysis conducted on a first community sample revealed a latent structure composed of 10 items distributed on one common factor, labeled RNT, and three subfactors that evaluated the repetitive characteristic of RNT, the intrusiveness of RNT and the effect of RNT on mental resources. This factorial structure was confirmed in two confirmatory factor analyses in community and clinical samples. Scale score reliability indices were good and confirmed the validity of the instrument. The French version of the PTQ is a good content-independent instrument to assess RNT in general and clinical populations of French speakers. 8

Abstract: This work focuses on the processes underlying approach/avoidance tendencies reactivation. In this thesis, we defend the idea that these tendencies reactivation depends on the present sensorimotor information and its similarity with past sensorimotor information associated with approach/avoidance behaviors. In the first part, we tested if reproducing the most representative sensorimotor (here, visual) approach/avoidance information led to a better reactivation of approach/avoidance tendencies. Through eight experiments, when the visual information displayed in the task was representative of these actions, approach/avoidance effects were stronger than when this visual information was absent. Moreover, the effects we produced (with this visual information in the task) were strong and replicable. In the two next parts, we tested if the reactivation of approach/avoidance tendencies depends on personal characteristics theoretically associated with approach/avoidance behaviors. Through seven experiments, we showed that approach/avoidance tendencies varied as function of these personal characteristics theoretically associated with intergroup behaviors and consumption behaviors. Overall, this work is in line with the idea that approach/avoidance tendencies reactivation rely on sensory information associated with past approach/avoidance actions, Ces travaux portent sur les processus à l’œuvre dans la réactivation des tendances comportementales d’approche et d’évitement. Dans cette thèse, nous défendons l’idée que la réactivation de ces tendances comportementales dépend de l’information sensorimotrice présente et de sa similarité avec l’information sensorimotrice passée ayant été associée à des comportements d’approche/évitement. Dans une première partie, nous avons testé si reproduire dans la tâche d’approche/évitement l’information sensorimotrice (en l’occurrence, visuelle) la plus représentative de l’approche/évitement permettait une meilleure réactivation de ces tendances comportementales. A travers huit expériences, nous avons pu montrer que lorsque l’information visuelle de la tâche était représentative, les effets d’approche/évitement étaient plus forts que lorsque cette information visuelle n’était pas présente. Qui plus est, les effets produits lorsque cette information était présente étaient forts et réplicables. Dans les deux parties suivantes, nous avons testé l’hypothèse selon laquelle la réactivation des tendances à l’approche/évitement dépend de spécificités personnelles associées au comportement des individus. A travers sept expériences, nous avons pu montrer que les tendances d’approche/évitement réactivées variaient en fonction de caractéristiques personnelles, théoriquement associées au comportement réel des individus envers des groupes sociaux et envers un produit de consommation. De manière générale, ces travaux sont cohérents avec l’idée que la réactivation des tendances à l’approche/évitement prend sa base sur l’information sensorielle ayant accompagné ces actions passées

Abstract: Risk perceptions concerning genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are often considered to reflect media coverage. However, it might be said that people seek out information consistent with their attitudes and avoid information which could challenge them. This process refers to the selective exposure principle derived from cognitive dissonance theory. Although this principle is now well established, the only two studies carried out to date in the field of GMOs have produced contradictory results. Additionally, no study has considered the link between risk perceptions, threat perceptions and attitudes as possible antecedents of selective exposure in the field of GMOs. The aim of the present research was to fill this gap. Results of a multiple-mediation model showed that people did in fact expose themselves selectively in the field of GMOs: The higher the level of general risk perception they reported, the higher the perceived threat, the more negative their attitude towards GMOs and the greater their inclination to expose themselves to information on the harmful effects of GM food. We discuss the consequences of selective exposure and the potential levers which could favor exposure to pros and cons, thereby also favoring informed food choices.

Abstract: International audience; Background: The prevention of addictions in young people is a challenge for Mental and Public Health policies, and requires specific risk-screening tools. Specific personality traits, as assessed using the Substance Use Risk Profile Scale (SURPS), could play a key role in the onset and escalation of substance use. This study aimed to examine (1) measurement invariance across age and gender (2) the effects of age and gender on associations between SURPS scores and the most frequently-consumed substances. Methods: Analyses were based on the responses from 5069 participants (aged 14-20 years) from the 2011 ESPAD-France dataset. Substance-use outcomes were experimentation and current frequency of alcohol, tobacco and cannabis use, and drunkenness. Results: Our approach, consisting in analysing measurement and structural invariance and interaction terms, established the stability of (i) SURPS profiles, and (ii) relationships between these scores and substance experimentation and use over a developmental period ranging from mid-adolescence to early adulthood. Measurement invariance across genders was also confirmed despite the absence of scalar invariance for 2 items. Significant interactions between gender and SURPS factors were established, highlighting differential vulnerability, especially concerning Hopelessness and experimentation of alcohol and drunkenness, or Impulsivity and tobacco experimentation. Finally, Anxiety Sensitivity could be protective against substance use, especially for cannabis in girls. Conclusions: Our results suggest the relevance of the SURPS to assess vulnerability towards drug use, and underline the need to consider gender differences in addiction risks.

Abstract: Right-wing authoritarianism (RWA) and social dominance orientation (SDO) both predict generalized prejudice, dehumanization, intergroup discrimination, oppression, violence, right-wing political party preference, and generally punitive attitudes. Authoritarian attitudes have been theorized to involve maladaptive emotional, cognitive, and social self-regulation. However, there is no study of authoritarianism using the functioning of the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) as a physiological index of self-regulation, thus leaving it unclear whether regulation is "impaired" with authoritarian attitudes per se. PNS functioning is commonly assessed by examining tonic and phasic heart rate variability (HRV). These two components are recognized to be important in terms of adaptation to stress. Decreased HRV has been associated with hypoactive prefrontal regulation, hyperactive subcortical structures, maladaptive self-regulation, hyper-vigilance, decreased prosocial tendencies, defensiveness, impulsive behaviors, and aggression. Previous research suggests that self-regulatory failure may favor hostile attitudes and prejudicial intergroup behaviors. In a first study, we found that high RWA was associated with lower tonic HRV at rest. In a second study, stress-induced autonomic reactivity and poststress autonomic recovery were examined as potential pathways linking authoritarian attitudes to self-regulation. We found that high RWA and high SDO were associated with (i) lower tonic HRV during stress, (ii) greater autonomic reactivity during stress, and (iii) lower autonomic recovery. Overall, our results suggest that autonomic dysregulation during and following stress is a plausible physiological pathway connecting RWA and SDO to self-regulation. Abstract: In this article, homicides in France are examined and framed within an international context. Homicide, given its association with other forms of criminality and delinquency, is an excellent index to employ in examining rates of increase in violent acts in France. Homicides in France often occur in socially disadvantaged neighborhoods. However, minors are infrequently implicated in homicides. Several factors are proposed to explain the relatively low rate of homicides in France. Finally, France's penal response to homicide is examined in terms of its potential braking effect on the rate of homicides committed. Accounting for the overall pattern of delinquency and criminality within an international context, it could be hypothesized that in France, relative to other nations, forms of violent delinquency have taken the place of homicidal acts.

Abstract: submitted to JMIR Research ProtocolsDate Submitted: Mar 10, 2023; International audience; BACKGROUND: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric disorder that can manifest after a traumatic event, in which the individual perceives a threat to his or her life, or that of others. Its estimated prevalence in the European population is 0.7–1.9%. According to the ‘dose-response’ model, individuals who are most exposed to traumatic events are most at risk of developing the disorder. Hence, it is unsurprising that studies have observed a higher prevalence among the military population, ranging from 10–18%, or even up to 45%. The overall goal of this project is to evaluate primary prevention actions that can strengthen the resilience of at-risk professionals, notably military personnel, in the short term, with the medium to long-term aim of preventing the occurrence of PTSD, and improving the patient’s prognosis. OBJECTIVE: The project’s objectives are: (i) to design a primary prevention program for PTSD, tailored to the studied military population, and compatible with operational constraints; and (ii) to implement/ validate the PREPAR program in the short term with operational personnel belonging to the French Mountain Infantry Brigade (Brigade d’Infanterie de Montagne). METHODS: This is a single-center, prospective, randomized, parallel-group controlled cohort study. The cohort of 116 participants is divided into two groups: the non-intervention (NI) group receives no training, and the intervention group (I) follows a dedicated prevention program. Each participant is evaluated four times (at inclusion, +4 months, +6 months, and +12 months). Members of the I group attend eight workshops, making up the prevention program, and two debriefing and practice reinforcement workshops. All visits and workshops are conducted at the Brigade’s premises. During each visit, participants complete several psychosocial questionnaires (which take 15–80 minutes to complete, depending on the visit). Samples (a 30 ml blood sample, and three 5 ml saliva samples) are collected on three occasions: at inclusion, +4 months, and +12 months. Emotional reactivity (electrocardiogram and electrodermal activity) is measured before, during and after the classic and the emotional Stroop task, using surface electrodes placed on the last phalanx of two fingers, and the thorax. RESULTS: This a protocol paper, therefore there is no result presented CONCLUSIONS: The study adopts an integrative approach to the processes that play a role in the risk of developing PTSD. Our biopsychosocial perspective makes it possible to target levers related to factors specific to the individual (at physiological and psychological levels), and contextual and social factors (related to the professional environment). The following dimensions are addressed: (i) biophysiology (by studying the key markers of the neurobiological stress response, wear and tear, and vulnerability phenomena, and by reinforcing the flexibility of the autonomic nervous system), (ii) psychology (by facilitating and measuring the development of flexible coping strategies to deal with stress, and evaluating the moderating role of the individual’s sense of duty in the development of PTSD) and (iii) social (by facilitating community strategies aimed at reducing stigmatization and supporting the use of care by professionals in difficulty, in the institutional context). CLINICALTRIAL Trial Registration: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT05094531.; Introduction : Le Trouble de Stress Post-Traumatique (TSPT) est un trouble psychiatrique qui se manifeste suite au vécu d’un évènement traumatique, dans lequel l’individu a perçu une mise en danger de sa vie ou de celle d’autrui. Sa prévalence en population Européenne s’établit entre 0,7% et 1,9%. Selon le modèle « dose-réponse », les individus les plus exposés à des évènements traumatiques (ET) sont ceux qui sont le plus à risques de développer ce trouble. C’est pourquoi il n’est pas surprenant d’observer en population militaire une prévalence plus importante de ce trouble, allant de 10% à 18% voire 45%, suivant les études. Le but général dans lequel s’inscrit ce projet est celui d’explorer des pistes d’actions de prévention primaire pour renforcer à court terme les capacités de résilience chez des professionnels à risques, que sont les militaires, afin de prévenir à moyen et long terme la survenue du TSPT et d’en améliorer le pronostic. Les objectifs du projet sont (i) de concevoir un programme de prévention primaire du TSPT spécifique de la population militaire étudiée et compatible avec les contraintes opérationnelles des militaires de terrain, (ii) de l’implémenter / le valider auprès des opérationnels de la Brigade d’Infanterie de Montagne (BIM) en ciblant le court terme.Méthode : Il s’agit d’une étude monocentrique analytique de cohorte prospective, randomisée, contrôlée en groupes parallèles. La cohorte de 116 participants est scindée en deux groupes : le groupe qui ne suit pas de formation : groupe non intervention (NI) et le groupe qui suit le programme de prévention : groupe intervention (I). Chaque participant inclus réalise 4 visites (inclusion, +4 mois, + 6mois et + 12mois). Les sujets du groupe intervention doivent de plus suivre 8 ateliers du programme de prévention et 2 ateliers de débriefing et renforcement de la pratique. L’ensemble des visites et ateliers sont réalisés au sein de la BIM. Lors de chaque visite, les sujets doivent compléter des questionnaires psychosociaux (dont le temps de remplissage est compris entre 15 à 80 minutes, selon les visites). Des prélèvements (prise de sang 30 ml et prélèvements salivaires de 5 ml) sont réalisés à trois reprises : visite d’inclusion, visite +4 mois et visite +12 mois. Un enregistrement de la réactivité émotionnelle (variabilité cardiaque et sudation cutanée) est réalisé, avant, pendant et au décours d’un test de Stroop classique et émotionnel, à l’aide d’électrodes cutanées au niveau de deux doigts et au niveau du thorax.Discussion : Notre démarche consiste à adopter une lecture intégrative des processus en jeu dans le risque de développement du TSPT selon une approche biopsychosociale permettant de cibler à la fois des leviers d’intervention relevant de facteurs propres à l’individu sur le plan physiologique et psychologique ainsi que de facteurs contextuels et sociaux relatifs au cadre professionnel. Les dimensions abordées sont : (i) la biophysiologie (en intégrant l’étude des biomarqueurs clefs de la réponse neurobiologique de stress, des phénomènes d’usure et de vulnérabilité et en renforçant la flexibilité du système nerveux autonome), (ii) la psychologie (en facilitant et mesurant le développement de la flexibilité des stratégies de coping pour faire face au stress ainsi qu’en évaluant le rôle modérateur du sens porté à la mission de travail dans le développement du TSPT) et (iii) le social (en facilitant les stratégies communautaires visant la réduction de la stigmatisation et facilitant le recours aux soins des professionnels en difficulté dans le contexte institutionnel).

Abstract: International audience; BackgroundHPV vaccine coverage in France remained lower than in most other high-income countries. Within the diagnostic phase of the national PrevHPV program, we carried out a mixed methods study among school staff to assess their knowledge, beliefs and attitudes regarding HPV, HPV vaccine and vaccination in general, and regarding schools’ role in promoting HPV vaccination. MethodsMiddle school nurses, teachers and support staff from four French regions participated between January 2020 and May 2021. We combined: (i) quantitative data from self-administered online questionnaires ( n = 301), analysed using descriptive statistics; and (ii) qualitative data from three focus groups ( n = 14), thematically analysed.ResultsLess than half of respondents knew that HPV can cause genital warts or oral cancers and only 18% that no antiviral treatment exists. Almost 90% of the respondents knew the existence of the HPV vaccine but some misunderstood why it is recommended before the first sexual relationships and for boys; 56% doubted about its safety, especially because they think there is not enough information on this topic. Schools nurses had greater knowledge than other professionals and claimed that educating pupils about HPV was fully part of their job roles; however, they rarely address this topic due to a lack of knowledge/tools. Professionals (school nurses, teachers and support staff) who participated in the focus groups were unfavourable to offering vaccination at school because of parents’ negative reactions, lack of resources, and perceived uselessness. ConclusionsThese results highlight the need to improve school staff knowledge on HPV. Parents should be involved in intervention promoting HPV vaccination to prevent their potential negative reactions, as feared by school staff. Several barriers should also be addressed before organizing school vaccination programs in France.; IntroductionLa couverture vaccinale contre les papillomavirus humains (HPV) en France reste inférieure à celle de la plupart des autres pays développés. Dans le cadre de la phase diagnostique du projet PrevHPV, nous avons mené une étude mixte auprès de professionnels de l’Education Nationale afin d’explorer leurs connaissances, représentations et attitudes vis-à-vis des HPV, du vaccin contre les HPV et de la vaccination en général, ainsi qu’au sujet du rôle du milieu scolaire dans la promotion de la vaccination contre les HPV.MéthodesL’étude a été menée auprès d’infirmières scolaires, d’enseignants et de membres du personnel administratif et d’encadrement de collèges de quatre régions françaises entre janvier 2020 et mai 2021. Nous avons combiné : (i) des données quantitatives collectées via des questionnaires auto-administrés, en ligne (n = 301), analysées à l'aide de statistiques descriptives ; et (ii) des données qualitatives collectées lors de trois focus groups (n = 14), traitées par une analyse thématique de contenu.RésultatsMoins de la moitié des répondants au questionnaire en ligne savaient que les HPV peuvent provoquer des verrues génitales ou des cancers ORL et 18 % seulement qu'il n'existe pas de traitement antiviral contre les HPV. Près de 90 % des répondants connaissaient l'existence du vaccin contre les HPV, mais certains professionnels ne comprenaient pas pourquoi ce vaccin était recommandé avant les premiers rapports sexuels ou pour les garçons ; 56 % doutaient de son innocuité, notamment parce qu'ils pensaient qu'il n'y avait pas assez de recul sur ce vaccin. Les infirmières scolaires avaient de meilleures connaissances que les autres professionnels et reconnaissaient que l'éducation des élèves au sujet des HPV fait partie intégrante de leur mission ; cependant, elles abordaient rarement ce sujet, notamment en raison d'un manque de connaissances et/ou d'outils. Les professionnels (infirmières scolaires, enseignants et personnel administratif/d’encadrement) ayant participé aux focus groups n'étaient pas favorables à l'idée de proposer la vaccination contre les HPV en milieu scolaire, notamment en raison du manque de ressources, de la crainte d’être confrontés à des réactions négatives de la part des parents et car ils n’en percevaient pas l’utilité (la vaccination étant accessible dans d’autres lieux).ConclusionLes résultats de cette étude soulignent la nécessité d'améliorer les connaissances du personnel scolaire sur les HPV et sa vaccination. Les parents devraient être impliqués dans les interventions de promotion de la vaccination contre les HPV afin de prévenir d’éventuelles réactions négatives, comme le craignent les professionnels des collèges. Plusieurs obstacles doivent également être levés avant d'organiser la vaccination en milieu scolaire en France.

Abstract: International audience; Background: It has been proven that vaccination is effective against Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infections, genital warts, and pre-cancerous and cancerous cervical lesions. Nevertheless, the HPV vaccine coverage of 37.4% in 2021 in France is one of the lowest in Europe. To explore and understand the reason why French population is so late compared to its neighbours, we carried out focus groups with mothers and with National Education school staff. We aimed to identify knowledge and perceptions of HPV in both study populations, as well as factors influencing HPV vaccination.Methods: Between January 2020 and March 2021, we performed a qualitative study using an inductive approach with a thematic content analysis (TCA). We conducted semi-structured focus groups with 29 people including 15 mothers of adolescents in middle schools and 14 school staff from the national education system.Results: Different factors influenced the decision-making process of parents and school staff: knowledge and perceptions of HPV and its vaccine, sources of information about HPV and vaccination. Mothers' discourses differed from those of school staff. They mentioned the importance of gynaecological monitoring and the negative image of pharmaceutical companies, and questioned internet as a reliable source of information. For their part, school staff mentioned cultural and/or religious affiliation, municipalities’ role to inform the population, and ethical dilemma or logistical challenges regarding HPV vaccination in schools.Conclusion: The results of these focus groups provided information on which elements may harm or help HPV vaccination. Identified perceptions, beliefs, knowledge, barriers, and facilitators will help us to build an intervention program focus on general practitioners (GP), school staff, parents, and adolescents.

Abstract: International audience; Introduction: Despite various efforts to improve human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine coverage in France, it has always been lower than in most other high-income countries. The health authorities launched in 2018 the national PrevHPV research programme to (1) co-develop with stakeholders and (2) evaluate the impact of a multicomponent complex intervention aimed at improving HPV vaccine coverage amongst French adolescents.Objective: To describe the development process of the PrevHPV intervention using the GUIDance for rEporting of intervention Development framework as a guide.Methods: To develop the intervention, we used findings from (1) published evidence on effective strategies to improve vaccination uptake and on theoretical frameworks of health behaviour change; (2) primary data on target populations' knowledge, beliefs, attitudes, preferences, behaviours and practices as well as the facilitators and barriers to HPV vaccination collected as part of the PrevHPV Programme and (3) the advice of working groups involving stakeholders in a participatory approach. We paid attention to developing an intervention that would maximise reach, adoption, implementation and maintenance in real-world contexts.Results: We co-developed three components: (1) adolescents' and parents' education and motivation using eHealth tools (web conferences, videos, and a serious video game) and participatory learning at school; (2) general practitioners' e-learning training on HPV using motivational interviewing techniques and provision of a decision aid tool and (3) easier access to vaccination through vaccination days organised on participating middle schools' premises to propose free of charge initiation of the HPV vaccination.Conclusion: We co-developed a multicomponent intervention that addresses a range of barriers and enablers of HPV vaccination. The next step is to build on the results of its evaluation to refine it before scaling it up if proven efficient. If so, it will add to the small number of multicomponent interventions aimed at improving HPV vaccination worldwide.Patient or Public Contribution: The public (adolescents, their parents, school staff and health professionals) participated in the needs assessment using a mixed methods approach. The public was also involved in the components' development process to generate ideas about potential activities/tools, critically revise the successive versions of the tools and provide advice about the intervention practicalities, feasibility and maintenance.

Abstract: International audience; It is increasingly acknowledged that creativity has become essential in daily life. Each individual has the potential to be creative and the level of creativity actualization results from different factors that can be cognitive, conative and environmental. In particular, educational methods may impact creativity directly or indirectly through motivation and well-being. We hypothesized that the type of pedagogy influences levels of creativity, motivation and well-being. Furthermore, we hypothesized that creativity was linked to motivation and well-being. This study was conducted on 131 French adolescents attending a Waldorf school (alternative educational method) or a traditional school. Our results highlight differences in well-being and type of motivation when comparing both educational methods. Moreover, our results showed significant correlations between the different types of motivation and creativity scores.

Abstract: International audience; IntroductionBecause changing personal beliefs about treatment could help improve adherence, having a validated tool for identifying these beliefs is important.ObjectiveThis study sought to validate the French version of the Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire (BMQ-f©).MethodData were gathered among 253 patients with type 2 diabetes and 123 HIV patients with the help of self-reported questionnaires, including the Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire, a French adherence assessment, and some demographic variables.ResultsConfirmatory factor analyses show the French version of the BMQ has the same factorial structure as the English original in both diabetes and HIV samples. All items load on their expected factor namely specific-necessity, specific-concern, general-harm, and general-overuse. Moreover, each scale revealed good internal consistency and retained the psychometric qualities of the original version. These satisfactory properties were consolidated by predictive validity data that demonstrate the impact of treatment beliefs on adherence levels.ConclusionFindings are discussed in light of previous diabetes and HIV studies. The French BMQ proved to be a good way of quickly identifying inaccurate beliefs about treatment. It could be a useful tool in French clinical practice, such as in patient education.

The External and Internal Shame Scale (EISS) has proven to be a brief and reliable instrument to assess external and internal shame, as well as a global sense of shame. The current study aims to corroborate the validity of the EISS and expand its utility, by investigating its dimensionality and testing its measurement invariance in samples from five eclectic countries from Europe, East and Southeast Asia and Australia. Differences in EISS scores across the five countries were also explored. This cross-national study included 1405 participants recruited in community samples of adults from Portuguese, French, Australian, Singaporean and Japanese populations, who completed the EISS in four different languages. An hierarchical model with two factors (external and internal shame) loading on one global factor (global shame) revealed good fit to the data in the total sample and in each of the five countries’ samples, and the instrument showed good reliability across countries. The EISS factorial structure also proved to be invariant across countries. Differences in global shame, external and internal shame scores were found between the countries. By supporting the factorial structure, reliability and measurement invariance of the EISS across countries, this study contributes to expand the use of the EISS across nations and in different languages, both in research and clinical settings.

Abstract: International audience; Over the past decade, moral judgments and their underlying decision processes have more frequently been considered from a dynamic and multi-factorial perspective rather than a binary approach (e.g., dual-system processes). The agent’s intent and his or her causal role in the outcome–as well as the outcome importance–are key psychological factors that influence moral decisions, especially judgments of punishment. The current research aimed to study the influence of intent, outcome, and causality variations on moral decisions, and to identify their interaction during the decision process by embedding the moral scenarios within an adapted mouse-tracking paradigm. Findings of the preregistered study (final n = 80) revealed main effects for intent, outcome, and causality on judgments of punishment, and an interaction between the effects of intent and causality. We furthermore explored the dynamics of these effects during the decision process via the analysis of mouse trajectories in the course of time. It allowed detecting when these factors intervened during the trial time course. The present findings thus both replicate and extend previous research on moral judgment, and evidence that, despite some ongoing challenges, mouse-tracking represents a promising tool to investigate moral decision-making.

Abstract: Newly measured rating norms provide a database of emotion-related dimensions for 524 French trait words. Measures include valence, approach/avoidance tendencies associated with the trait, possessor- and other-relevance of the trait, and discrete emotions conveyed by the trait (i.e., anger, disgust, fear, happiness, and sadness). The normative data were obtained from 328 participants and were revealed to be stable across samples and gender. These data go beyond a dimensional structure and consider more fine-grained descriptions such as the categorical emotions, as well as the perspective of the evaluator conveyed by the traits. They should thus be particularly useful for researchers interested in emotion or in the emotional dimension of cognition, action, or personality. The database is available as supplementary material.

Abstract: Resume Objectif Cette enquete d’opinion a pour objectif d’evaluer le role des manipulateurs en electroradiologie medicale (MER) dans l’accession aux soins oncologiques de support (SOS) et leur niveau d’information a ce sujet. Patients/materiels et methodes Au total, 45 personnes ont rempli un questionnaire, dont 11 MER et 34 patients atteints de cancer pris en charge en radiotherapie. Resultats Si tous les MER estimaient qu’initier aux SOS etait pleinement dans leur role, il existait une variabilite de leur niveau de formation et d’information : 54,5 % pensaient que l’acces aux soins de support etait facile et 45,5 % qu’il etait difficile. Tous ne connaissaient pas l’ensemble des soins de support disponibles dans leur etablissement. Enfin, meme si leurs niveaux d’information etaient variables, les MER avaient une vision beaucoup plus large des soins de support que leur patient, soulignant ainsi leur defaut de communication sur le sujet. Du cote des patients, le recours aux SOS est pour une majorite un choix personnel ou conseille par l’oncologue, et ils sont satisfaits des SOS dont ils ont eu acces pour la majorite. Enfin, 19 % enoncaient que durant leur parcours de radiotherapie, personne ne leur avait parle des soins de support. Conclusions L’etude a montre que les MER ont un defaut de formation/d’information sur les SOS et comment y acceder. Des formations specifiques aupres de tout le personnel soignant de radiotherapie sont necessaires, afin d’ameliorer les pratiques professionnels, le depistage des besoins specifiques de chaque patient et leur orientation vers les SOS. L’extension du role des MER en « referents » pourrait pallier certains deficits d’accompagnement en radiotherapie. Enfin, ces soignants doivent egalement davantage penser a parler des SOS a leurs patients, en particulier lors de temps d’accompagnement soignant dedies.

Abstract: International audience; Could it be that walking toward (vs. away) information about someone else changes what you think you are in the direction of what this person is? We answer positively and argue that approach movements lead to self-evaluative assimilation (a higher self-evaluation with a high vs. a low standard), while avoidance movements lead to self-evaluative contrast (a lower self-evaluation with a high vs. a low standard). Hence, we predict that approach and avoidance moderate the impact of comparison information on self-evaluation. To test this idea, participants were either primed with approach or avoidance before processing comparison information (Study 1) or physically had to walk toward or away from this information (Studies 2 and 3). Results on self-evaluated adjustment (Studies 1 and 2) and self-evaluated attractiveness measures (Study 3) confirmed our predictions. These studies suggest ways to behave to feel positively about ourselves when hearing about others.

Abstract: International audience; OBJECTIVES:The aims of the study are: first, to compare two short diagnostic instruments, CIDI-SF and CIS-R, with respect to the structured clinical interview for non-patient (SCID-I/NP) for anxiety and depressive disorders; and second, to evaluate the influence of four languages, Italian, Romanian, Spanish and French, on the concordance tests.METHODS:A total of 120 participants from Italy and Romania, 119 from Spain and 141 from France (N = 500) were recruited randomly in a local primary care research centre (GPs or medical centres). The instruments were administered during a unique session: the lay instruments by students in psychology and the SCID by experienced psychiatrists. Kappa, sensitivity/specificity/negative (NPV) and positive predictive values (PPV), ROC curve (AUC) and the Youden Index (Y) were calculated.RESULTS:Results were better for the CIDI-SF than the CIS-R for anxious disorders, depressive disorders and any of them. The results were identical to that obtained by the CIDI 3.0 for the three categories and constant across the languages except for depressive disorders in Romania and France.CONCLUSIONS:CIDI-SF is a cost-effective instrument and could be easily integrated into health surveys; its performance values are better across languages than values proposed by the CIS-R and could be increased by inclusion of few additional information.

Abstract: The present longitudinal study measured student adjustment to higher education, comparing 50 participants from alternative schools (Steiner, Montessori, New Schools) with 80 students from the traditional school system. We hypothesized that students from alternative schools adapt better, because of greater perceived social support, academic self-efficacy, and task-oriented coping styles. Measures were taken during the last school year (baseline characteristics), and at the beginning of the first and last terms of the first year in higher education. The quality of adjustment was assessed through academic results, and physical and psychological well-being. The following instruments were used: the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory by Spielberger (1983), the 13-items Depression Inventory by Beck et al. (1961), the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations by Endler and Parker (1990), and semi-directed interviews. Results show that students from alternative schools adjust better to higher education: they report less anxiety and depression symptoms, and show greater life satisfaction and academic achievement.

Abstract: © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Limited 2021, corrected publication 2022, The COVID-19 pandemic has increased negative emotions and decreased positive emotions globally. Left unchecked, these emotional changes might have a wide array of adverse impacts. To reduce negative emotions and increase positive emotions, we tested the effectiveness of reappraisal, an emotion-regulation strategy that modifies how one thinks about a situation. Participants from 87 countries and regions (n = 21,644) were randomly assigned to one of two brief reappraisal interventions (reconstrual or repurposing) or one of two control conditions (active or passive). Results revealed that both reappraisal interventions (vesus both control conditions) consistently reduced negative emotions and increased positive emotions across different measures. Reconstrual and repurposing interventions had similar effects. Importantly, planned exploratory analyses indicated that reappraisal interventions did not reduce intentions to practice preventive health behaviours. Abstract: Coping styles are generally considered to be environmentally driven. Up to now, research has mainly focused on family influences. However, some studies underline the effect of educational settings on the development of problem-focused coping strategies. Consistently with previous reports on the enhancement of autonomy and problem-solving in alternative schools, and the relationship established by self-determination theory between autonomy-supportive climates and positive coping, we hypothesized that alternative school students develop more problem-focused coping styles. This hypothesis was tested on 80 traditional school students and 50 alternative school students (Steiner, Montessori and New schools), during their last secondary school year, using the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (Endler & Parker, 1990a). We also assessed psychological factors which can influence coping styles measures (anxiety and depression), using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (Spielberger, 1983), and the Beck Depression Inventory (Beck, Ward, Mendelson, Mock, & Erbaugh, 1961). The proportion of problem-focused coping strategies was compared in traditional and alternative settings, adjusting for potential confounding factors, using logistic regression. Results show that the proportion of students using predominantly problem-focused coping strategies is higher in the population of alternative schools. Directions for further research on alternative schools are highlighted concerning coping as well as autonomy-supportive class climates.

Abstract: This paper addresses methodological considerations relevant to nonverbal communication of emotion research. In order to gather more information about the interpretations given to spontaneous and dynamic facial expressions, two main objectives guide the present exploratory research. The first one is to obtain naturalistic recordings of emotional expressions in realistic settings that are ‘emotional enough’. The second one is to address the issue of dynamic judgments of facial expressions of emotion, that is real-time emotional recognition. An innovative device has been created for this specific purpose. Results show that, although the social nature of the eliciting situation is minimal, the experience of some emotions is reflected on the encoders' faces while being covertly videotaped in natural conditions. Moreover, results show the utility to investigate dynamic emotional judgments of spontaneous and dynamic expressions since observers seem to be sensitive to the slightest facial expression change in making their emotional judgments. A promising paradigm is thus proposed for the study of the dynamics of real-time nonverbal emotional interaction. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Abstract: IntroductionVaccination is an effective and safe strategy to prevent Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and related harms. Despite various efforts by French authorities to improve HPV vaccine coverage (VC) these past few years, VC has remained far lower than in most other high-income countries. To improve it, we have coconstructed with stakeholders a school-based and primary care-based multicomponent intervention, and plan to evaluate its effectiveness, efficiency and implementation through a cluster randomised controlled trial (cRCT).Methods and analysisThis pragmatic cRCT uses an incomplete factorial design to evaluate three components applied alone or in combination: (1) adolescents and parents’ education and motivation at school, using eHealth tools and participatory learning; (2) general practitioners’ training on HPV using motivational interviewing techniques and provision of a decision aid tool; (3) free-of-charge access to vaccination at school. Eligible municipalities (clusters) are located in one of 14 preselected French school districts and must have only one secondary school which enrols at least 2/3 of inhabitants aged 11–14 years. A randomisation stratified by school district and deprivation index allocated 90 municipalities into 6 groups of 15. The expected overall sample size estimate is 41 940 adolescents aged 11–14 years. The primary endpoint is the HPV VC (≥1 dose) among adolescents aged 11–14 years, at 2 months, at the municipality level (data from routine databases). Secondary endpoints include: HPV VC (≥1 dose at 6 and 12 months; and 2 doses at 2, 6 and 12 months); differences in knowledge, attitudes, behaviours, and intention among adolescents, parents and general practitioners between baseline and 2 months after intervention (self-administered questionnaires); incremental cost-effectiveness ratio. Implementation measures include dose, fidelity, adaptations, reached population and satisfaction (activity reports and self-administered questionnaires).Ethics and disseminationThis protocol was approved by the French Ethics Committee ‘CPP Sud-Est VI’ on 22 December 2020 (ID-RCB: 2020-A02031-38). No individual consent was required for this type of research; all participants were informed of their rights, in particular not to participate or to oppose the collection of data concerning them. Abstract: Introduction: Self-esteem is central to human well-being, quality of life, and mental health. Therefore, it is important to propose preventive and therapeutic techniques to deal with decline in self-esteem. Different interventions have been proposed and their efficacies have been validated. However, they present certain constraints such as a cognitive and/or emotional cost, which limit some clinical applications. Method: Based on contributions from cognitive, social, and clinical psychology, we propose to test the efficacy of a new technique for self-esteem enhancement using brief lexical associations and mental visualization (six sessions of five minutes) for a stimulation of episodic and semantic self-perceptions. Results: Comparing the Lexical Association Technique to a control technique and using a double-blind pre-post design, two studies show the efficacy of this new technique on global self-esteem in two samples of students (nStudy1 = 36; nStudy2 = 89), as well as a sustained effect up to 5 days after the technique is stopped. Discussion: The mechanisms underlying the efficacy of this technique are discussed. Further studies are needed to precise the clinical applicability of the Lexical Association Technique on patients.

Abstract: Despite measures taken by Moroccan public authorities to overcome the spreading of Covid-19 virus, it appears that people manifest inappropriate behaviors, which reflect different degrees of risk behaviors. In this context, the purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of socio-demographic characteristics (i.e, sex, level of study) and means of communication (e.g, social networks, website of the Ministry of health, newspapers online and television) on self-protective behavior to face the pandemic Covid-19. Sample of this study consists of 390 participants, who have completed an online questionnaire. Our results are consistent with our assumptions. They showed that women are more engaged than men in self-protective behavior. The same results have been shown for the users of the means of communication, except television, compared to non-users. All findings are discussed on the basis of previous works. The limits of the study and research perspectives are mentioned as well., Malgré les mesures prises par les autorités publiques marocaines pour contrer la propagation de la Covid-19, force est de constater que la population manifeste des comportements inadaptés avec des degrés variables de prise de risque. Dans ce cadre, le présent article vise à examiner l’effet des caractéristiques sociodémographiques (i.e., sexe, niveau d’étude) et des moyens de communication (i.e., réseaux sociaux, site du Ministère de la Santé, journaux électroniques, télévision) sur les comportements d’autoprotection face à cette pandémie. Pour ce faire, nous avons entrepris une étude en ligne au moyen de questionnaire auprès de 390 participants. Conformément à nos hypothèses, les résultats montrent que les femmes s’engagent plus que les hommes dans les comportements de protection. Il en est de même pour les utilisateurs des moyens de communication susmentionnés, à l’exception de la télévision, et ce, comparativement aux non utilisateurs. Les résultats sont discutés à l’instar des travaux antérieurs. Les limites et les perspectives de la recherche sont aussi mentionnées.

Abstract: International audience; Problem-solving strategies in visual reasoning tasks are often studied based on the analysis of eye movements, which yields high-quality data but is costly and difficult to implement on a large scale. We devised a new graphical user interface for matrix reasoning tasks where the analysis of computer mouse movements makes it possible to investigate item exploration and, in turn, problem-solving strategies. While relying on the same active perception principles underlying eye-tracking (ET) research, this approach has the additional advantages of being user-friendly and easy to implement in real-world testing conditions, and records only voluntary decisions. A pilot study confirmed that embedding items of Raven's Advanced Progressive Matrices (APM) in the interface did not significantly alter its psychometric properties. Experiment 1 indicated that mouse-based exploration indices, when used to assess two major problem-solving strategies in the APM, are related to final performance—as has been found in past ET research. Experiment 2 suggested that constraining some features of the interface favored the adoption of the more efficient solving strategy for some participants. Overall, the findings support the relevance of the present methodology for accessing and manipulating problem-solving strategies.
