The purpose of this study is to explore how the board of directors perform risk oversight, providing a greater insight into what the board of directors actually do in the risk oversight process. The authors seek to map and investigate the practical part of the board's work in overseeing an entity’s risks and how it relates to theory. The research applies a mixed method approach, using both qualitative and quantitative data. With a cross sectional research design the process was divided into two phases, one explorative and one inductive. Where the exploratory phase, consisting of multiple interviews with specialists as well as board members, provided the necessary basis for the induktive phase where a survey provided the main empirical material. This thesis is based on relevant Risk Management literature, with further connections to Information asymmetry, Agency theory and Contingency theory. The empirical foundation consists of 5 interviews, consisting of two experts interviews and three board member interviews, and a survey with 50 responses from board members. This research concludes risk oversight practically performed by the board, as being contingent with a high focus on relationships and trust, not utilizing some key oversight processes and board members not being critical of their work and sometimes lacking knowledge.

Teoretiska perspektiv: Den teoretiska basen i uppsatsen baseras på 5C-modellen och Brunswiks lens model som båda avser beslutsprocesser, sistnämnda mer generellt och förstnämnda mer specifikt för långivare. Teorierna komplementeras med tidigare forskning och dess empiriska resultat, kopplat till respektive teori. Två avsnitt berör utöver detta övergångseffekterna till IFRS 16 och tilläggsupplysningars relevans. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to describe and analyse lenders’ decisions and evaluation of various information sources, in order to be able to continue analysing how these are affected by a transition to a new accounting policy. As previous research has implied, the implementation of IFRS 16 will affect the income statement, the balance sheet and the financial ratios. This thesis intends to specifically examine how these changes will affect the lenders’ decision process and credit assessment. Methodology: The study is based on two main methods. One case study with a factorial survey approach and four semi structured interviews. The case study consists of three fictitious financial reports where each case is based on different accounting methods for leasing, two of which relates to the different transition methods of IFRS 16 and one that relates to the previous standard, IAS 17. This study aimed to examine how a Swedish sports tabloid represented male and female athletes in headlines and preambles from a gender perspective. Furthermore, the study also analyzed how much coverage each gender got in Sportbladet, which was the chosen tabloid on which we conducted our study. We used a method triangulation and performed both a critical discourse analysis and a quantitative content analysis. The quantitative content analysis was made on strategically selected pictures inside the paper and the critical discourse analysis was made on the most significant article. The intention with a method triangulation was to provide both understanding in the big picture as well as on a deeper level. Our study shows that, not only do women receive a lot less coverage than men, but also that Sportbladet represented both men and women in a very gender stereotypical manner. An especially interesting finding we did was that women actually occurred in big pictures more often than men in terms of percentage. That is contrary to both our expectations and the rest of our results.

1997-1999 genomfördes ett projekt där några banor utreddes och anpassades för högre axellaster (25 ton) och större profil (statisk profil C) för att öka framkomligheten och därmed konkurrenskraften hos Svensk industri. Redan i mitten på 90-talet hade översiktliga kostnads-beräkningar genomförts för att rensa upp längs banan och att öka tillåten storlek på godståg till profil C som hade ett rektangulärt tvärsnitt och var 20 cm bredare och 18 cm högre än statisk profil A som kan framföras utan villkor på alla banor. För de stora godsstråken från övre Norrland och ned till Malmö och Göteborg beräknades detta till ca 300 miljoner kronor. I denna kostnadsberäkning missades dock två viktiga kostnadsdrivare som berodde på den större profilens ökade bredd från 3,4 m till 3,6 m (statiskt mått). Dessa kostnads-drivare var det ökade kravet på spåravstånd vid hinderpunkter samt ökat krav på plattformsbredder. Det då aktuella projektet med att öka profilen och axellasten mellan Borlänge och Göteborg för Stora Ensos ”Secuboxar” genomfördes som tidigare nämnts 1997-1999. På grund av den korta tid som stod till förfogande för att genomföra projektet samt på grund av att profilen ökades med 20 cm på bredden gjorde att järnvägen inte blev ombyggd fullt ut för att kunna ändra bansträckningens klassning. Orsaken till detta var att alla hinderfrihets¬punkter vid sido- och mötesspår måste flyttas vilket innebar flytt av signaler och kortare spårlängder som i många fall behövdes att förlängas. Dessutom krävdes en breddning av skyddszoner som i sin tur i många fall krävde större bredder på plattformar. Dessa arbeten var krävande både tidsmässigt och kostnadsmässig och trafikeringen fick lösas med specialtransport efter att endast hinder för framkomligheten byggts bort. Laser-induced fluorescence was used to evaluate the classification and quality of Chinese oolong teas and jasmine teas. The fluorescence of four different types of Chinese oolong teas-Guangdong oolong, North Fujian oolong, South Fujian oolong, and Taiwan oolong was recorded and singular value decomposition was used to describe the autofluoresence of the tea samples. Linear discriminant analysis was used to train a predictive chemometric model and a leave-one-out methodology was used to classify the types and evaluate the quality of the tea samples. The predicted classification of the oolong teas and the grade of the jasmine teas were estimated using this method. The agreement between the grades evaluated by the tea experts and by the chemometric model shows the potential of this technique to be used for practical assessment of tea grades., QC 20120411

Simultaneous assessment of the spectroscopic absorption signal of gas enclosed in a scattering medium and the corresponding optical path length of the probing light is demonstrated using a single setup. Sensitive gas absorption measurements are performed by a tunable diode laser using wavelength-modulation spectroscopy, while the path length is evaluated by the frequency-modulated cw technique commonly used in the field of telecommunication. Proof-of-principle measurements are demonstrated with water vapor as the absorbing gas and using polystyrene foam as an inhomogeneously scattering medium. We present optical methods at a wide range of wavelengths for remote classification of birds. The proposed methods include eye-safe fluorescence and depolarization lidar techniques, passive scattering spectroscopy, and infrared (IR) spectroscopy. In this paper we refine our previously presented method of remotely classifying birds with the help of laser-induced beta-keratin fluorescence. Phenomena of excitation quenching are studied in the laboratory and are theoretically discussed in detail. It is shown how the ordered microstructures in bird feathers induce structural "colors" in the IR region with wavelengths of around 3-6 mu m. We show that transmittance in this region depends on the angle of incidence of the transmitted light in a species-specific way and that the transmittance exhibits a close correlation to the spatial periodicity in the arrangement of the feather barbules. We present a method by which the microstructure of feathers can be monitored in a remote fashion by utilization of thermal radiation and the wing beating of the bird.
