Purpose: To explore the association of the load–velocity (L-V) relationship variables and ability to maintain maximal mechanical performance during the prone bench-pull exercise with sprint swimming performance and in-water forces. Methods: Eleven competitive adult male swimmers (50-m front crawl World Aquatics points: 488 [66], performance level 4) performed 1 experimental session. The L-V relationship variables (L0 [ie, maximal theoretical load at 0 velocity]; v0 [ie, maximal theoretical velocity at 0 load], and Aline [ie, area under the L-V relationship]) and maximal mechanical maintenance capacity were assessed at the beginning of the session. Afterward, sprint swimming performance and in-water force production were tested through a 50-m front-crawl all-out trial and 15-s fully-tethered swimming, respectively. Results: Only v0 presented high positive associations with 50-m time and swimming kinematics (r >.532; P <.046). The L0, v0, and Aline showed very high positive associations with the in-water forces during tethered swimming (r >.523; P <.049). However, the ability to maintain maximal mechanical performance, assessed by the mean velocity decline during the prone bench pull, was only significantly correlated with stroke rate (r = −.647; P =.016) and stroke index (r =.614; P =.022). Conclusions: These findings indicate that maximal neuromuscular capacities, especially v0, have a stronger correlation with swimming performance and in-water force production than the ability to maintain maximal mechanical performance in level 4 swimmers. This study investigated how equipment and sex affect the prediction accuracy of the maximum number of repetitions performed to failure (RTF) using the fastest mean velocity of the set (MVfastest). Sixteen men and twelve women completed four sessions (two using free-weight equipment and two sessions using the Smith machine). Each session involved three sets of repetitions to failure against the 65%, 75%, and 85% of the one-repetition maximum, interspersed by 10-min of rest. The goodness-of-fit of the individualized RTF-MVfastest relationships was comparable between both equipment types and sexes (P ≥0.510). Moreover, there were not significant differences in the MVfastest associated with RTF between equipment types (P ≥0.258). However, the MVfastest associated with RTF was higher for men than for women in repetitions 6 to 15 (P ≤0.043; ES≥0.69). In addition, the absolute errors when predicting RTF showed no significant differences between equipment types and loads (P <0.444). Specifically, these RTF estimates were within an acceptable range for men (<2 repetitions), but not for women (≥2 repetitions) (main effect of sex: P ≤0.018; ES≥0.58). These findings suggest that individualized RTF-MVfastest equations estimate the RTF with an acceptable precision in men during bench press exercises in both equipment types but exhibit lower precision for women. Introduction Recovering from neuromuscular injuries or conditions can be a challenging journey that involves complex surgeries and extensive physical rehabilitation. During this process, individuals often rely on orthotic devices to support and enable movement of the affected limb. However, users have criticized current commercially available powered orthotic devices for their bulky and heavy design. To address these limitations, we developed a novel powered myoelectric elbow orthosis. Materials and Methods The orthosis incorporates 3 mechanisms: a solenoid brake, a Bowden cable-powered constant torque elbow mechanism, and an extension limiter. The device controller and battery are in a backpack to reduce the weight on the affected arm. We performed extensive calculations and testing to ensure that the orthosis could withstand at least 15 Nm of elbow torque. We developed a custom software effectively control the orthosis, enhancing its usability and functionality. A certified orthotist fitted a subject who had undergone a gracilis free functioning muscle transfer surgery with the device. We studied the subject under Mayo clinic IRB no. 20-006849 and obtained objective measurements to assess the orthosis's impact on upper extremity functionality during daily activities. Results The results are promising since the orthosis significantly improved elbow flexion range of motion by 40° and reduced compensatory movements at the shoulder (humerothoracic joint) by 50°. Additionally, the subject was able to perform tasks which were not possible before, such as carrying a basket with weights, highlighting the enhanced functionality provided by the orthosis. Conclusion In brief, by addressing the limitations of existing devices, this novel powered myoelectric elbow orthosis offers individuals with neuromuscular injuries/conditions improved quality of life. A variety of LSD analogs have emerged in recent years with dual purposes of avoiding prosecution from possession while providing new options for those willing to experiment with hallucinogenic drugs. In this study, a previously published automated sample preparation method for LSD and its primary metabolite (OH‐LSD) was utilized to extract LSD, OH‐LSD, and nine LSD analogs from urine. The liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) method was modified from the previously published LC conditions to utilize a different analytical column and gradient elution program. Mobile phases of 10 mM ammonium formate with 0.1% formic acid in deionized water (mobile phase A) and 0.1% formic acid in methanol (mobile phase B) were employed. The method was validated to ANSI/ASB Standard 036 with a 0.1 ng/mL limit of detection for all analytes and was utilized for the analysis of 325 urine specimens. Although no LSD analogs were observed in the samples analyzed, this validated method was demonstrated to be suitable for the analysis of these compounds in laboratories seeking to expand their testing scope. Automated sample preparation allows for the efficient analysis of these analytically challenging compounds with minimal manual handling. Additionally, there was no increased analytical time burden when the LC column and gradient were modified to target nine additional analytes. Detection may improve as new reference standards are developed to allow laboratories to focus on the metabolic products of these analogs. Purpose: Production and transportation of precast components, as two continuous service stages of a precast plant, play an important role in meeting customer needs and controlling costs. However, there is still a lack of production and transportation scheduling methods that comprehensively consider delivery timeliness and transportation economy. This article aims to study the integrated scheduling optimization problem of in-plant flowshop production and off-plant transportation under the consideration of practical constraints of customer order delivery time window, and seek an optimal scheduling method that balances delivery timeliness and transportation economy. Design/methodology/approach: In this study, an integrated scheduling optimization model of flowshop production and transportation for precast components with delivery time windows is established, which describes the relationship between production and transportation and handles transportation constraints under the premise of balancing delivery timeliness and transportation economy. Then a genetic algorithm is designed to solve this model. It realizes the integrated scheduling of production and transportation through double-layer chromosome coding. A program is designed to realize the solution process. Finally, the validity of the model is proved by the calculation of actual enterprise data. Findings: The optimized scheduling scheme can not only meet the on-time delivery, but also improve the truck loading rate and reduce the total cost, composed of early cost in plant, delivery penalty cost and transportation cost. In the model validation, the optimal scheduling scheme uses one less truck than the traditional EDD scheme (saving 20% of the transportation cost), and the total cost can be saved by 17.22%. Originality/value: This study clarifies the relationship between the production and transportation of precast components and establishes the integrated scheduling optimization model and its solution algorithm. This study assessed the manual handling of materials in a local market environment and evaluated workers’ awareness of ergonomics and health risks. Of 315 workers surveyed, 308 responded. The findings revealed a high prevalence rate of 96.4% for injuries and musculoskeletal discomfort, attributed to a low ergonomics and health risk awareness rate of only 6.8%. Consequently, 75% of workers resorted to self-medication or drug abuse for relief. The study also explored barriers to using engineering equipment, finding that 26.3% of respondents cited cost as a barrier, while 51% believed that the introduction of engineering equipment would lead to job loss. This research is valuable for practitioners and researchers as it highlights the current state of ergonomics and health risk awareness among workers who handle heavy loads. Objective: The accurate measurement of Cobb angles is crucial for the effective clinical management of patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). The Lenke classification system plays a pivotal role in determining the appropriate fusion levels for treatment planning. However, the presence of interobserver variability and time‐intensive procedures presents challenges for clinicians. The purpose of this study is to compare the measurement accuracy of our developed artificial intelligence measurement system for Cobb angles and Lenke classification in AIS patients with manual measurements to validate its feasibility. Methods: An artificial intelligence (AI) system measured the Cobb angle of AIS patients using convolutional neural networks, which identified the vertebral boundaries and sequences, recognized the upper and lower end vertebras, and estimated the Cobb angles of the proximal thoracic, main thoracic, and thoracolumbar/lumbar curves sequentially. Accordingly, the Lenke classifications of scoliosis were divided by oscillogram and defined by the AI system. Furthermore, a man–machine comparison (n = 300) was conducted for senior spine surgeons (n = 2), junior spine surgeons (n = 2), and the AI system for the image measurements of proximal thoracic (PT), main thoracic (MT), thoracolumbar/lumbar (TL/L), thoracic sagittal profile T5–T12, bending views PT, bending views MT, bending views TL/L, the Lenke classification system, the lumbar modifier, and sagittal thoracic alignment. Results: In the AI system, the calculation time for each patient's data was 0.2 s, while the measurement time for each surgeon was 23.6 min. The AI system showed high accuracy in the recognition of the Lenke classification and had high reliability compared to senior doctors (ICC 0.962). Bouts of military load carriage are rarely completed in isolation; however, limited research has investigated the physiological responses to repeated load carriage tasks. Twelve civilian men (age, 28 ± 8 years; stature, 185.6 ± 5.8 cm; body mass 84.3 ± 11.1 kg and maximal oxygen uptake, 51.5 ± 6.4 mL·kg−1 min−1) attended the laboratory on two occasions to undertake a familiarisation and an experimental session. Following their familiarisation session, participants completed three bouts of a fast load carriage protocol (FLCP; ∼65 min), carrying 25 kg, interspersed with a 65‐min recovery period. Physiological strain (oxygen uptake [V̇O2] and heart rate [HR]) was assessed during the FLCP bouts, and physical performance assessments (weighted counter‐movement jump [wCMJ], maximal isometric voluntary contraction of the quadriceps [MIVC] and seated medicine ball throw [SMBT]) was measured pre and post each FLCP bout. A main effect for bout and measurement time was evident for V̇O2 and HR (both p < 0.001 and Ѡ2 = 0.103–0.816). There was no likely change in SMBT distance (p = 0.201 and Ѡ2 = 0.004), but MIVC peak force reduced by approximately 25% across measurement points (p < 0.001 and Ѡ2 = 0.133). A mean percentage change of approximately −12% from initial values was also evident for peak wCMJ height (p = 0.001 and Ѡ2 = 0.028). Collectively, these data demonstrate that repeated FLCP bouts result in an elevated physiological strain for each successive bout, along with a substantial reduction in lower body power (wCMJ and MIVC). Therefore, future research should investigate possible mitigation strategies to maintain role‐related capability. Highlights: Given the progressively greater internal work rate for each successive load carriage bout (of equal external work rate), individuals responsible for load carriage planning should factor this elevated work rate into their operational planning (e.g., estimated maximal work durations).Elevated work rate for successive bouts should also be considered in other domains such as physical employment standards and development of working patterns.Group level perceptual measures appear to provide a good indication of physiological strain and therefore may provide useful information to commanders regarding the physical strain experienced by their team. In occupations with high physical demands, strength relative to bodymass is an important measure as it signifies an individual's ability to control and move their body mass through space. The purpose of this investigation was to examine physical characteristics, training, and performance based on different magnitudes of relative strength. Subjects were 1,806 male and 319 female US Army soldiers. Sex, age, height, body mass, and physical training data were obtained by an electronic survey. Physical performance was measured by the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT), which includes a three-repetition maximum deadlift, standing power throw, hand release push-up, sprint-drag-carry, leg tuck, and two-mile run. The relative body mass deadlifted was calculated and categorized into 4 groups for men and 3 groups for women. An analysis of variance and post hoc least significant difference test were used to evaluate the differences in relative strength and physical performance. Overall, 33% of men deadlifted ≥1.5 times their body mass, while 30% of women deadlifted ≥1.25 times their body mass. Men and women deadlifting the highest percentage of their body mass (≥1.5 times for men and ≥1.25 times for women) outperformed those with lower relative strength within their own sex in all 6 ACFT events. In 4 of the 6 ACFT events, women who deadlifted ≥1.25 times their body mass had similar performance compared with men deadlifting 1 to 1.24 times their body mass and outperformed men deadlifting <1 times their body mass. The governance of the nomenclature of algae, fungi, and plants as prescribed by the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants is presently undemocratic in six ways: (1) the selection of the officers of nomenclature and the committee members; (2) restricted attendance to the Nomenclature Section because of the expense of attending; (3) attendees at the Nomenclature Section may carry up to 14 institutional votes and institutions have from 1 to 7 institutional votes; (4) the preliminary guiding vote carries little weight; (5) the General Committee can overturn decisions of the Specialist Committees; and (6) decisions of the General Committee can be approved in the Nomenclature Section by a minority (40% plus 1 vote). There is an opportunity to make nomenclature governance more democratic at the Nomenclature Section at Madrid by allowing virtual attendance, giving one and only one institutional vote to each institution, and changing approval of the decisions of the General Committee to a simple majority of 50%. Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are a common occupational health problem in industries, and they can lead to decreased productivity and a reduced quality of life for workers. Exoskeletons, as an emerging technology, have the potential to solve this challenge by assisting arm movements and reducing muscle effort during load lifting tasks. In this paper, a passive exoskeleton based on a variable stiffness mechanism (VSM) torque generator is proposed and evaluated. This exoskeleton can provide adjustable torque curves and accommodate three degrees of freedom (DOFs) while remaining compact and lightweight. The workspace analysis shows that the workspace of this exoskeleton is sufficient for most industrial manual handling tasks. The experimental results demonstrate that the exoskeleton effectively reduces muscle effort during overhead reaching and load-lifting tasks, highlighting its effectiveness for repetitive tasks in industrial settings. There is disagreement regarding the efficacy of 'safe' lifting recommendations for reducing low back disorder risk. These recommendations commonly focus on minimising lumbar spine flexion, which limits the range of allowable starting lift positions for that person. This study evaluated whether starting postural adaptations could allow a person to reach down further without rounding their lumbar spine before beginning a lift. Reach displacement was measured as participants performed a series of maximal reach tasks under different combinations of stance width, foot orientation and trunk inclination, with their lumbar spine motion restricted. There were no interactions between any of the three postural adaptations or any effect of stance width or trunk inclination. Seventy-nine percent of participants achieved their greatest reach displacement with their feet externally rotated, which contributed to a 4 cm greater reach displacement compared to a neutral foot orientation (p < 0.001). Practitioner summary: This study examined whether aspects of initial posture could influence the ability to adhere to 'safe' lifting recommendations across a range of lift heights. As a component of lifting (re)training interventions, practitioners should consider starting lift posture adaptations (e.g. manipulating foot external rotation) to improve capacity to adhere to recommendations. Background: High-cost medical consumables (HMCs) have emerged as significant economic and technological challenges for numerous national healthcare systems. Governmental hospitals play an indispensable role in many national health systems, closely linked to the evaluation of admissions and the management of procurement for HMCs. Nevertheless, many governmental hospitals face avoidable management risks due to the lack of a decision-making tool. In response, we conducted a systematic review to establishing a framework for the admission criteria of HMCs. This framework aims to enhance their effective utilization and maximize economic, clinical, and social benefits. Methods: In accordance with a systematic review protocol developed for our study, we conducted comprehensive searches in the PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase databases to identify all correlation studies conducted prior to December 31, 2021. Subsequently, two independent reviewers performed a two-round screening process, resulting in the inclusion of 23 articles in our study. Finally, a third reviewer meticulously examined the selected indicators and contributed to the development of the final criterion framework. Results: The criterion framework was established with 7 first-level indicators and 23 s-level indicators. Among the first-level indicators, "Clinical Benefit" held the highest significance, with a combined weight of 1.606, followed by "Economic Value" and "Organizational Impact" at 1.497 and 1.159, respectively. At the second level, "Safety" and "Efficacy" carried equal weight in the decision-making tool, with combined weights of approximately 1.300 each and a standard combined weight of 0.130. Conclusion: This admission criteria framework serves as a vital decision-making tool for managing admissions and highlights several crucial evaluation indicators. Economic considerations emerge as the principal determinant in HMCs procurement decisions. Consequently, healthcare managers and decision-makers are recommended to give precedence to value-based healthcare and evidence-based procurement practices. This study addressed the limitations of lead-based radiation shields by developing lead-free, non-toxic, lightweight, and flexible shielding materials with high attenuation efficiency. To achieve this, single and triple layers of Bi2O3-BaTiO3/PVP-PEG nanocomposite films were synthesized. Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) polymers (2:1 ratio) were used as the polymeric matrix in which fillers of Bi2O3 and BaTiO3 nanoparticles (NPs) with particle sizes ranging from 90 to 210 nm and <100 nm, respectively, were embedded. Four single-layer samples with 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50% NP concentrations were prepared; the samples were 1.05, 1.09, 1.27, and 1.42 mm thick, respectively. Two samples of triple-layered films were prepared with 30% and 50% NPs, measuring 3.78 and 4.23 mm in thickness, respectively. The attenuation efficiency of these films was investigated using X-ray tube voltages from 10 to 120 kVp. Further, the flexibility of the synthesized films was tested by manual handling. All single- and triple-layer nanocomposites exhibited effective radiation attenuation and desirable flexibility. Specifically, at the lowest tube voltage, all samples exhibited 100% attenuation, while at the highest tube voltage, the attenuation ranged from 27% to 84%, depending on the NP concentration and number of layers of the sample. The highest attenuation ratio, observed in the 50% triple-layer sample, reached 100% up to approximately 60 kVp and 84% at 120 kVp. Consequently, the most optimal film synthesized in this study had a triple-layer configuration with 50% Bi2O3-BaTiO3 NPs embedded in a PVP-PEG polymer with an average attenuation of 95.5% for all tube voltages (10–120 kVp). This paper focuses on the prescribed-time cluster synchronization of coupled inertial neural networks. By variable transformation, the coupled inertial neural networks are converted into high-order systems. An effective prescribed-time control applicable to high-order systems is introduced by virtue of a time-varying scaling function. Moreover, a dimension-lifting approach is utilized to derive sufficient criteria for achieving prescribed-time cluster synchronization under the proposed control. Compared with existing Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional methods, the criteria obtained in this paper are in form of low-dimensional linear matrix inequalities and therefore can be easily verified. Nowadays, landing gears used in aircraft are the basic systems that carry the weight of aircraft systems and provide them to move on the ground. During the landing of aircraft, big and sudden vibrations occur as soon as the wheels come into contact with the runway. This situation negatively affects human safety, comfort and also the life of the landing gear system. Therefore, it is important to keep this vibration at permissible levels. This paper presents an improved vibration control method that controls the amplitudes of vibrations of landing systems. This paper presents proposed vibration control method that controls the angular position variables of the landing gear mechanism to control the vibrations occurring during landing. For different runway conditions and 200 km/h landing speed, the angular joint variables of the landing gear mechanism links are controlled using standard controller and a proposed neural controller structure. Rowing is a sport that requires athletes to perform the action of pulling and rotating an oar by hand, applying forces of considerable magnitude. Herein, inspired by the notion that auxetic materials and metamaterials behave differently compared to their conventional counterparts, it is examined how a handle prototype, specifically designed to incorporate the classic re‐entrant motif, behaves and how end‐users perceive it. Physical experiments conducted on such prototype, which measured the contact pressures, suggest that on average, higher pressures are measured when pulling with this reentrant grip compared to its non reentrant counterpart, indicating that this re‐entrant prototype should feel firmer. More importantly, respondents of a survey are asked to give their feedback, and different views on which handle they would prefer to use are provided. The ones who preferred the prototype with the reentrant features report that they preferred it because it felt firmer and allowed for a better grip. This suggests that there is potential for further investigation into whether handles, oar handles in particular, made from auxetic components, re‐entrant cells, or other motifs which are well known for their negative Poisson's ratio characteristics, could provide a better and more secure grip and be used in sports applications. AbstractThe dynamical analysis and optimization pose significant challenges in spacecraft structural design, as they are crucial for mitigating vibrations. However, artificial localized modes can arise due to imprecise finite elemental models, impeding dynamical optimization. This paper proposes a voxel-based topology optimization method with a four-connected seed filling strategy to address this issue. By selecting a seed element and connecting it with the entire structure using four-connected relations, artificial localized modes can be suppressed effectively. Unlike traditional mesh-based methods, this approach saves time and eliminates the need for manual handling of the initial model. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, a 6-U CubeSat was chosen as an optimization example. To reduce design errors stemming from calculation inaccuracies, spatial symmetry constraints were employed. Through simulations and vibration tests, it was observed that the first five-order natural frequencies of the optimized structure exceeded those of the original structure. This outcome decreases the likelihood of resonance occurrence and enhances the safety of the electromechanical system. Overall, this research presents a practical and efficient solution for addressing dynamical optimization challenges in spacecraft structural design, thereby improving vibration reduction efforts and safeguarding the integrity of the system. In order to better design handling-assisted exoskeletons, it is necessary to analyze the biomechanics of human hand movements. In this study, Anybody Modeling System (AMS) simulation was used to analyze the movement state of muscles during human handling. Combined with surface electromyography (sEMG) experiments, specific analysis and verification were carried out to obtain the position of muscles that the human body needs to assist during handling. In this study, the simulation and experiment were carried out for the manual handling process. A treatment group and an experimental group were set up. This study found that the vastus medialis muscle, vastus lateralis muscle, latissimus dorsi muscle, trapezius muscle, deltoid muscle and triceps brachii muscle require more energy in the process of handling, and it is reasonable and effective to combine sEMG signals with the simulation of the musculoskeletal model to analyze the muscle condition of human movement. However, most bioprintable hydrogels are weak and fragile, difficult to handle, and cannot mimic the mechanical behaviors of the native soft elastic tissues. A visible light crosslinked, single‐network, elastic, and biocompatible hydrogel system based on an acrylate triblock copolymer of poly(ethylene glycol) PEG and polycaprolactone (PCL) (PEG‐PCL‐DA) is developed. To enable its application in the bioprinting of soft tissues, the hydrogel system is modified on its printability and biodegradability. Furthermore, it is hypothesized that this elastic material can better transmit pulsatile forces to cells, leading to enhanced cellular response under mechanical stimulation. This central hypothesis is tested using vascular conduits with smooth muscle cells (SMCs) cultured under pulsatile forces in a custom‐made bioreactor. The results show that vascular conduits made of PEG‐PCL‐DA hydrogel faithfully recapitulate the rapid stretch and recoil under the pulsatile pressure from 1 to 3 Hz frequency, which induces a contractile SMC phenotype, consistently upregulating the core contractile transcription factors. In summary, this work demonstrates the potential of elastic hydrogel for 3D bioprinting of soft tissues by fine‐tuning the printability, and biodegradability, while possessing robust elastic properties suitable for manual handling and biomechanical stimulation. The recent technological and computational advances in mass spectrometry-based single-cell proteomics have pushed the boundaries of sensitivity and throughput. However, reproducible quantification of thousands of proteins within a single cell remains challenging. To address some of those limitations, we present a dedicated sample preparation chip, the proteoCHIP EVO 96 that directly interfaces with the Evosep One. This, in combination with the Bruker timsTOF demonstrates double the identifications without manual sample handling and the newest generation timsTOF Ultra identifies up to 4000 with an average of 3500 protein groups per single HEK-293T without a carrier or match-between runs. Our workflow spans 4 orders of magnitude, identifies over 50 E3 ubiquitin-protein ligases, and profiles key regulatory proteins upon small molecule stimulation. This study demonstrates that the proteoCHIP EVO 96-based sample preparation with the timsTOF Ultra provides sufficient proteome depth to study complex biology beyond cell-type classifications. In both terrestrial and marine ecosystems, prey species exhibit various reactions to predators, including avoidance, fighting and freezing. Acoustic communication associated with mobbing has been depicted in numerous tetrapod species. This sonic behaviour remains however largely unknown in fish although mobbing has been shown in different coral reef fish as a response to predation risk. This study focused on the communication strategy of prey species in the presence of predators. We tested the reaction of the holocentrid Sargocentron caudimaculatum when facing a moray eel and compared the sounds they produced against the predator with sounds produced when the fish are hand-held, recorded in standardized conditions. When introduced in mesocosms to a moray eel, S. caudimaculatum produced distinct distress sounds, resembling staccato calls, and swam towards the predator with their heads pointed in its direction and their dorsal fin erected. This observation supports a mobbing behaviour with specimens shifting from an escape behaviour to an aggressive response in presence of predator. Moreover, these sounds are different from those emitted during manual handling. This difference in acoustic signal suggests the coexistence of multiple warning/alarm sounds in this species. Holocentrids can produce different kinds of sounds witnessing their ability to provide graded information based on the perceived predation risk. We suggest that species of this family would be a suitable and promising group with which to test the hypothesis of acoustic coordination where individuals could inform their conspecifics about an increase in the immediate predation risk through appropriate alarm calls and trigger an escape response of the group if needed. Purpose: This paper aims to examine why retail firms seldom achieve full integration of online and offline channels as prescribed in omni-channel literature. It examines the intermediate process of channel integration from an internal, operational perspective. Design/methodology/approach: This study is composed of two parts. In the first part, the authors interviewed informants from nine firms that were engaged in channel integration. In the second part, the authors conducted case studies with three firms from the cosmetics and skincare industry against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic to find evidence to support or negate the propositions made in the first part. Findings: The first part identified six operational challenges to channel integration. The authors categorized these challenges into two groups: inter-channel communication and inter-channel competition. Inter-channel competition carries more weight at the latter stage of integration. The authors also identified two antecedents that affect the seriousness of these challenges: heterogeneity among channels in business operation and external competitive pressure. In the second part, the authors found that both inter-channel communication and inter-channel competition were improved because of the external competitive pressure exerted by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the heterogeneity of offline channels against online channels in business operation is a double-edged sword. Originality/value: The study identifies the changing effects of the challenges of channel integration and their antecedents in the midst of integration. The positive influence of a specific dimension of channel heterogeneity against other channels increases and then decreases along channel integration. A body drag is an essential job task in law enforcement. It is purported that strength and power should contribute to this task, but there has been limited analysis. This study examined strength (1-repetition maximum hexagonal bar deadlift [1RM HBD]) and power (vertical jump [VJ], standing broad jump [SBJ]) relationships with the 74.84-kg and 90.72-kg body drags. Forty-three civilians (24 men and 19 women) completed the SBJ, VJ, and 1RM HBD in 1 session. Peak anaerobic power measured in watts (PAPw) was derived from the VJ. Relative measures were calculated from the SBJ, PAPw, and HBD. In another 2 sessions, subjects completed 74.84-kg and 90.72-kg drags in a counterbalanced order using 2 techniques: standard and adapted (time taken to pick dummy up from ground included in time). Independent samples t-tests compared the sexes and subjects who could or could not complete all drags. Partial correlations and stepwise regression, both controlling for sex, examined relationships between strength and power and the drags. In general, men outperformed women in almost all tests (p ≤ 0.024). Thirty-five subjects completed all drags and were stronger and more powerful than subjects who could not (p ≤ 0.011). The SBJ correlated with the 74.84-kg standard (r=-0.355) and 90.72-kg adapted (r = 0.373) drags; the VJ correlated with the 74.84-kg standard drag (r = -0.356). Peak anaerobic power measured in watts and 1RM HBD correlated with all drags (r = -0.382 to -0.668); PAPw was involved in all significant predictive relationships (explained variance = 34-62%). The proposals of think tanks nowadays carry weight in political actions worldwide. The communicative actions of these centers are crucial in the relationship with their diverse audiences for their initiatives to have a notable influence. Through a quantitative content analysis, the present study gathers communicative tools and measures the degree of interactivity promoted by these online research centers through their official websites, the medium that has the greatest impact on their visibility and influence. The research focuses on the 25 most influential think tanks in Central and South America, according to the 2020 Global Go To Think Tank Index. The results show that the level of interactivity offered by the unidirectional tools of these think tanks is considerably high. However, in the case of bidirectional resources, which provide a greater opportunity for interaction and dialogue with the web user, greater use is made of those of an asymmetrical nature. Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are the main contributor to disability levels, which are rising as populations age. Workplace hazard exposures are a major source of this problem, and current workplace risk management practices require substantial changes to tackle it more effectively. Most importantly, the current focus of risk management on "manual handling" tasks must broaden to encompass the whole job. This is necessary because a wide range of psychosocial hazards, most of which operate across the whole job rather than particular tasks, are significant contributors to risk. To ensure that risk‐control actions are effective, a recurring risk management cycle that includes worker participation and addresses risk from both biomechanical and psychosocial hazards will be essential. Legislation that mandates workplace management of psychosocial hazards would be helpful. Amendment by regulatory bodies of MSD‐related guidance and codes of practice so that they reflect current research evidence would also be helpful in communicating the need for change to workplace stakeholders. Featured Application: This study explores the integration of an occupational passive back-support exoskeleton in manufacturing, demonstrating its potential to reduce physical discomfort and physical exertion and enhance ergonomic practices. It highlights the role of the exoskeleton as a proactive tool for improving occupational health and safety in industrial settings. Manual material handling (MMH) significantly impacts worker health and productivity, often leading to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) primarily in the lower back. As a novel assistive technology, exoskeletons may serve as ergonomic tools to mitigate these work-related MSDs. It is essential to examine exoskeletons from the users' perspectives before their widespread implementation in occupational settings. This study investigates the effectiveness of a passive back-support exoskeleton (BExo) in reducing perceived physical exertion and improving ergonomic safety in a manufacturing context. Twenty-two college students were recruited to perform MMH tasks in a controlled lab environment, both with and without the BExo, followed by completing a survey questionnaire on various aspects of the BExo. Using ANOVA, the study analyzed biomechanical exertion across various body parts and tasks. The findings indicate that the BExo substantially alleviated discomfort and physical exertion in the low back, shoulders and knees, thereby enhancing an ergonomic posture and reducing fatigue. These results underscore the potential of passive exoskeletons to boost workers' safety and efficiency, providing valuable insights for future ergonomic strategies in industrial settings. It is unknown how structural (sex, stature, body mass) and functional (strength, flexibility) personal factors influence lifting strategy in paramedic work. We explored whether variance in peak low back forces and kinematic coordination patterns could be explained by structural and functional personal factors in paramedic lifting tasks. Seventy-two participants performed backboard and stretcher lifts. Peak low back forces normalised to body mass, as well as kinematic coordination patterns, were calculated as dependent variables. Being female, stronger, shorter, having higher body mass, and/or having greater lower body range of motion (ROM) were all independently associated with lower normalised low back forces across backboard and stretcher lifting. Females and stronger individuals seemed to define a movement objective to consistently minimise compressive forces, while individuals with greater hip ROM consistently minimised anteroposterior shear forces. The efficacy of improving strength and hip ROM to reduce low back forces in paramedic lifting should be investigated. Practitioner summary: Females, stronger individuals, and individuals with greater hip range of motion consistently exhibited lower normalised low back forces in paramedic lifting. Markerless motion capture has been made available by the development of pose estimation algorithms that provide both an estimate of the location of body keypoints in two-dimensional images and its associated confidence. It seems relevant to use this additional information for three-dimensional (3D) point reconstruction. Yet, it has been little described, nor has its influence on 3D point reconstruction. Eight participants performed a manual material handling task, which was recorded by 10 video cameras. Each video was processed using OpenPose. Different 3D point reconstruction methods were compared: direct linear transform (DLT) and weighted DLT (wDLT), with 10 cameras and with a subset of 4 cameras. For each keypoint, confidence and position deviation from the 3D reconstructed point with 10 cameras projected in the image reference frame were assessed. We deal here with a general 2-commodity flow model over a time expanded network designed for the management of a shared mobility systems. The model involves an integral flow vector that represents carriers together with an integral flow vector that represents the items transported by those carriers. It simultaneously copes with temporal and resource issues, and is difficult to handle in the practice. So we propose here a Project and Lift approach to handle it. We start by projecting the time expanded network model on the original transit network to obtain a simpler two-commodity flow projected model. In order to make this projected model consistent with the original problem, we introduce some complex constraints, prove that these constraints can be separated in polynomial time and discuss the experimental behavior of the related Branch-and-Cut algorithm. Next, we introduce the Lift issue about the way one may turn an optimal solution of our projected model into a solution of the original problem. Finally, we thoroughly study a somewhat restrictive Strong Lift setting of this Lift issue, design and test an exact mixed integer programming Strong Lift model, and discuss some flexible alternative approaches. Since global warming and the needs for sustainable production models, this paper focuses on a Just-in-Time (JIT)-based sustainable material handling scheduling problem (JSMHSP) with time window and capacity constraints for mixed-model assembly lines in the automobile industry. A novel Hybrid-load Automated Guided Vehicle (H-AGV) is proposed to fulfil material handling tasks between supermarkets and assembly lines. The motivation is to minimise the total line-side inventory and the total energy consumption, which corresponds to JIT and environmental objectives. Due to the NP-hard nature of the proposed scheduling problem, a Deep Q network and Non-dominated sorting-based Hyper-Heuristic (DN-HH) algorithm is presented to solve the bi-objective scheduling problem, which benefits from the synergy of the Deep Q Network (DQN) and Hyper-Heuristic (HH). In the DQN, the states and rewards are designed according to the characteristics of the scheduling problem. To improve the performance of DQN, the experience pool (EP) and the target network are presented to improve the convergence speed. Computational results reveal that the proposed DN-HH algorithm outperforms the other two compared algorithms in both solution quality and convergence speed and the performance of the H-AGV is better than that of the other two types of AGVs. In clinical settings, examining the range of motion (ROM) of trunk rotation and functional tasks is commonly employed as part of musculoskeletal assessments to diagnose low back pain (LBP) cases. This study compared trunk kinematics during functional activities between individuals with and without non-specific LBP. A total of 45 LBP patients and 45 healthy participants were recruited for this research. The Xsens wearable motion capture system was utilized to record movements during axial trunk rotations and activities such as single-leg standing, walking, hurdle steps, squats, and box lifting. During functional tasks, individuals with LBP displayed larger trunk ROMs, except for rotation in the transverse plane (TP) during single-leg standing. Statistically significant differences were observed between the two groups in trunk extension-flexion in the frontal plane (FP) and TP, trunk bending in TP, trunk rotation in FP and TP, single-leg standing in the sagittal plane (SP), walking in SP and FP, hurdle step in TP, and squat in the FP plane (p < 0.05). Individuals with LBP exhibited smaller trunk ROMs during simple trunk rotation movements, whereas larger ROMs were observed during functional tests. The variability and regularity of stride time may help identify individuals at a greater risk of injury during military load carriage. Wearable sensors could provide a cost-effective, portable solution for recording these measures, but establishing their validity is necessary. This study aimed to determine the agreement of several measures of stride time variability across five wearable sensors (Opal APDM, Vicon Blue Trident, Axivity, Plantiga, Xsens DOT) and force plates during military load carriage. Nineteen Australian Army trainee soldiers (age: 24.8 ± 5.3 years, height: 1.77 ± 0.09 m, body mass: 79.5 ± 15.2 kg, service: 1.7 ± 1.7 years) completed three 12-min walking trials on an instrumented treadmill at 5.5 km/h, carrying 23 kg of an external load. Simultaneously, 512 stride time intervals were identified from treadmill-embedded force plates and each sensor where linear (standard deviation and coefficient of variation) and non-linear (detrended fluctuation analysis and sample entropy) measures were obtained. Sensor and force plate agreement was evaluated using Pearson's r and intraclass correlation coefficients. All sensors had at least moderate agreement (ICC > 0.5) and a strong positive correlation (r > 0.5). Background: 3D visualization systems in laparoscopic surgery have been proposed to improve manual task handling compared to 2D, however, few studies have compared the intra‐operative efficacy in laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). The aim of this study is to determine if there is a benefit in intra‐operative efficiency when using a 3D visualization system in difficult LC compared to traditional 2D visualization systems. Method s : Retrospective analysis of 'difficult' LCs (Grades 3 or 4) was completed. The assessor was blinded as all cases were recorded and viewed in 2D only. Variables collected included time to complete steps, missed hook diathermy attempts, failed grasp attempts, missed clip attempts and preparation steps for intra‐operative cholangiogram (IOC). Multiple linear regression was undertaken for time variables, Poisson regression or negative binomial regression was completed for continuous variables. Results: Fifty‐two operative videos of 'difficult' LC were reviewed. 3D systems were associated with reduced operative times, although this was not statistically significant (CI: −2.93–14.93, P‐value = 0.183). Dissection of the anterior fold to achieve the critical view of safety was significantly faster by 3.55 min (CI: 1.215–9.206, P‐value = 0.002), and with considerably fewer errors when using 3D systems. Fewer IOC preparation errors were observed with a 3D system compared with a 2D system. Conclusions: 3D systems appear to enhance operator efficiency, allowing faster completion of critical steps with fewer errors. This pilot study underscores the utility of video annotation for intra‐operative assessment and suggests that, in larger multi‐centre studies, 3D systems may demonstrate superior intra‐operative efficiency over 2D systems during a 'difficult' LC. Given the limited awareness among farmers regarding agricultural spraying drones, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method serves as a valuable tool to assist farmers in systematically selecting the most high-performing drone from the available options. This research employed the AHP method, utilizing Expert Choice software, to evaluate and prioritize several drone sprayers in the southern region of Kerman province, specifically Pelikan1, T16, T20, and MG-1P. Various parameters, including coverage percentage, spraying quality coefficient, spraying uniformity, device price, amount of pesticide consumption, and droplet diameter, were thoroughly examined to establish distinct priorities for each parameter. Within the AHP framework, the coverage percentage was accorded the highest weight of 0.340, while spraying uniformity received the lowest weight of 0.100. The spraying quality coefficient, cost, and amount of pesticide consumption were assigned weights of 0.222, 0.185, and 0.153, respectively. Consequently, the T16 drone sprayer emerged with the highest rank, carrying a weight of 0.277 in comparison to other drone sprayers. In contrast, Pelikan1 attained the lowest rank with a weight of 0.225. The prioritization of spraying drones based on their performance is as follows: T16, T20, MG-1P, and Pelikan1, respectively. Support Vector Machines (SVMs) can learn from high-dimensional and small amounts of training data, thanks to effective optimization methods and a diverse set of kernel functions (KFs). The adaptability of SVM to numerous real-world problems has increased interest in the SVM method, and studies conducted with this method carry significant weight in various fields. The fixed parameter "AtanK" for KFs must be specified before the SVM model training process. Therefore, determining the appropriate kernel parameter values can be timE−consuming and may lead to slow convergence of the SVM model. On the other hand, the method provides faster and more robust convergence due to the adaptive parameter in the SVM model. In this study, a new Adaptive Arctan (AA) KF, tailored to the characteristics of different datasets, is proposed as an enhancement to the AtanK KF for the SVM algorithm. The proposed AA KF is compared with experimental results on 30 public KEEL and UCI datasets, alongside AtanK, adaptive Gaussian, Radial Basis Function, linear, and polynomial KFs. Research on disaster damage estimation for buildings has gained extensive attention due to the increased number of disastrous events, facilitating risk assessment, the effective integration of disaster resilience measures, and policy development. A systematic mapping study has been conducted, focusing on disaster damage estimation studies to identify trends, relationships, and gaps in this large and exponentially growing subject area. A novel approach using machine learning algorithms to screen, categorise, and map the articles was adopted to mitigate the constraints of manual handling. Out of 8608 articles from major scientific databases, the most relevant 2186 were used in the analysis. These articles were classified based on the hazard, geographical location, damage function properties, and building properties. Key observations reveal an emerging trend in publications, with most studies concentrated in developed and severely disaster-affected countries in America, Europe, and Asia. A significant portion (68%) of the relevant articles focus on earthquakes. However, as the key research opportunities, a notable research gap exists in studies focusing on the African and South American continents despite the significant damage caused by disasters there. Additionally, studies on floods, hurricanes, and tsunamis are minimal compared to those on earthquakes. Further trends and relationships in current studies were analysed to convey insights from the literature, identifying research gaps in terms of hazards, geographical locations, and other relevant parameters. Persistent dizziness and balance deficits are common, often with unknown etiology. Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness (3PD) is a relatively new diagnosis with symptoms that may include dizziness, unsteadiness, or non-vertiginous dizziness and be persistent the majority of time over a minimum of 90 days. The purpose of this case series was to investigate short-term outcomes of reducing dizziness symptoms using a manual therapy intervention focused on restoring mobility in the fascia using a pragmatically applied biomechanical approach, the Fascial Manipulation® method (FM®), in patients with 3PD. The preliminary prospective case series consisted of twelve (n = 12) patients with persistent complaints of dizziness who received systematic application of manual therapy to improve fascial mobility after previously receiving vestibular rehabilitation. The manual therapy consisted of strategic assessment and palpation based on the model proposed in the FM® Stecco Method. This model utilizes tangential oscillations directed toward the deep fascia at strategic points. Six males (n = 6) and females (n = 6) were included with a mean age of 68.3 ± 19.3 years. The average number of interventions was 4.5 ± 0.5. Nonparametric paired sample t-tests were performed. Significant improvements were observed toward the resolution of symptoms and improved outcomes. The metrics included the Dizziness Handicap Inventory and static and dynamic balance measures. The Dizziness Handicap Inventory scores decreased (i.e., improved) by 43.6 points (z = −3.1 and p = 0.002). The timed up and go scores decreased (i.e., improved) by 3.2 s (z = −2.8 and p = 0.005). The tandem left increased (i.e., improved) by 8.7 s (z = 2.8 and p = 0.005) and the tandem right increased (i.e., improved) by 7.5 s (z = 2.8 and p = 0.005). Four to five manual therapy treatment sessions appear to be effective for short-term improvements in dizziness complaints and balance in those with 3PD. Background: To provide epidemiological data for minor and moderate-to-serious injury claims for gym and fitness related injuries amongst those aged 16–64 in New Zealand, to inform the development of an injury prevention program. Methods: Retrospective analytical review of gym and fitness related injury entitlement minor and moderate- to-serious Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) claims from 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2020. Data were analysed by cause of injury, geographical region, sex, age, body site and injury type. Qualitative analysis of free text describing the activity causing the injury was conducted. Results: Over the ten-year period, 16–64 year olds made 345,254 injury claims, costing ACC NZ$241,298,275 in treatment charges. Soft tissue injuries were the most prevalent making up 96% (331,343) of all claims and 88% (NZ$213,049,197) of the total charges. Strenuous movement with lifting (n = 154,467, 47%), strenuous movement without lifting (n = 84,469, 25%), impact/contact with object (n = 39,610, 12%) and impact/contact with ground (n = 25,351, 8%) were the top four mechanisms resulting in injury, accounting for 92% of soft tissue injuries. Males and females aged 21 to 30 years old were most frequently injured. The four most injured body sites (lower back/spine, shoulder, knee, neck/back of head) accounted for 63% of injuries in females, and 65% in males. Conclusions: The most common cause of injury from gym and fitness activity claims in 16–64 year olds in New Zealand was lifting/carrying/strain resulting in lower back/spine and shoulder (including clavicle/blade) soft tissue injuries. Soft tissue injuries accounted for 96% of the total claims. Males and females aged 21 to 30 years old were most frequently injured age group. There are no reports in the literature of powerlifting success after amputation. We had the unique opportunity to characterize functional outcomes, strength, muscle contractility and size, and corticospinal excitability in an accomplished, competitive powerlifter (best competition squat = 205.0 kg, deadlift = 262.7 kg) with a unilateral, transtibial amputation relative to amputee controls. Four men (age range = 23-49 years) with unilateral, lower-limb amputation (3 transtibial, 1 transfemoral) participated in 1 laboratory visit. We assessed 10-m gait speed, the timed up and go (TUG) test, 5-time sit-to-stand performance (5TSTS), contractile properties of the vastus lateralis (VL) and medial gastrocnemius by tensiomyography, and VL cross-sectional area (CSA) by ultrasonography. Unilateral assessments for the intact limb included isokinetic knee extension and flexion torque and power and transcranial magnetic stimulation derived corticospinal excitability. An interview with the powerlifter provided contextual perspective. Compared with the control subjects, the powerlifter performed the 5TSTS faster (6.8%), exhibited faster VL contraction times (intact limb = 12.2%; residual limb = 23.9%), and showed larger VL CSA for the intact limb (46.7%). The powerlifter exhibited greater knee extension and flexion peak torque and mean power, particularly at 180°·s -1, as well as greater corticospinal excitability for the intact VL (65.6%) and tibialis anterior (79.6%). By contrast, the control subjects were faster in the TUG (18.3%) and comfortable (13.0%) and fast (21.4%) in the 10-m walk test. The major themes of our interview included needing to modify lifting mechanics, persistence, and remarkable pain tolerance. Background This study was conducted as an effort to develop a Korean construction job exposure matrix (KoConJEM) based on 60 occupations recently consolidated by the construction workers mutual aid association for use by the construction industry. Methods The probability, intensity, and prevalence of exposure to 26 hazardous agents for 60 consolidated occupations were evaluated as binary (Yes/No) or four categories (1 to 4) by 30 industrial hygiene experts. The score for risk was calculated by multiplying the exposure intensity by the prevalence of exposure. Fleiss' kappa for each hazardous agent and occupation was used to determine agreement among the 30 experts. The JEM was expressed on a heatmap and a web-based dashboard to facilitate comparison of factors affecting exposure according to each occupation and hazardous agent. Results Awkward posture, heat/cold, heavy lifting, and noise were hazardous agents regarded as exposure is probable by at least one or more experts in all occupations, while exposure to asphalt fumes was considered hazardous in the smallest number of occupations (n = 5). Based on the degree of agreement among experts, more than half of the harmful factors and most occupations showed fair to good results. The highest risk value was 16 for awkward posture for most occupations other than safety officer. Conclusions The KoConJEM provides information on the probability, intensity, and prevalence of exposure to harmful factors, including most occupations employing construction workers; therefore, it may be useful in the conduct of epidemiological studies on assessment of health risk for construction workers. Construction is a labor-intensive industry requiring extensive manual handling, repeated hand motion, and exerting force. These attributes put workers at risk for Distal Upper Extremity Disorders (DUED), such as occupational wrist tendinosis, trigger finger, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Although some studies have assessed the potential impact of exoskeletons on muscle activation, these studies failed to evaluate the direct effect of exoskeletons on DUED. Therefore, the present study aims to characterize the process for directly assessing the impact of exoskeleton on DUED and evaluate the efficacy of an exoskeleton in reducing the occurrence of DUED. Relying on the Hand Activity Level Threshold Limit Value process developed by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists, the researchers developed a framework for assessing the DUED risk associated with hand-related tasks. This study presents a framework for conducting ergonomic risk assessments and the use of intervention in the construction industry. In addition, the study provides critical insight into using a DUED-based risk assessment tool for exoskeleton evaluation research. Practitioners and researchers can determine the true cost-benefit of using an exoskeleton as a safety intervention using the risk outcome from the proposed risk assessment process.
