This qualitative descriptive study was designed to identify HIV-related questions frequently asked by online counseling users seeking professional advice. Data were collected via a public online question/answer counseling website operated by the Gyeonggi-do branch of the Korean Association for AIDS Prevention. Data on users' questions regarding HIV were collected between January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2018. The online questions were then analyzed and divided into codes and categories. From the 559 questions submitted, content analysis identified four major categories related to HIV: (a) HIV testing, (b) self-perceived HIV risk and risky sexual behaviors, (c) positive and negative emotional states, and (d) treatment and prevention. This study indicates that online counseling can be used to provide tailored information related to HIV along with emotional and psychosocial support to reach different subgroups and to provide current information such as the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis for those seeking professional advice.

This cohort study examined longitudinal changes in undergraduates' use of social media as information sources in academic and everyday-life contexts, covering types of social media used, purposes of use, and evaluation strategies. Web surveys were used, collecting data from 1,355 and 928 undergraduates in 2013 and 2019. The study found that students used most types of social media less in 2019 than 2013 in both contexts. Only media-sharing services bucked this downward pattern. Overall, a majority of social media types underwent changes in the top three purposes of use. The 2019 cohort used most evaluation strategies more frequently in both contexts. However, they favored simplistic strategies relying on superficial physical cues when evaluating information. Based on the findings, this study provided recommendations for information literacy education and interface design, such as covering multimedia information evaluation, leveraging various heuristics to prime careful use of social media and analytical evaluation of information.

연구배경 문양 디자인은 도자기, 패션, 생활용품 뿐 아니라 광고, 캐릭터, 공간 디자인 등 매우 폭 넓은 산업에 적용되고 있다. 아직은 실증적인 연구가 매우 부족하지만, 선행연구 결과들은 문양 디자인이 소비자의 제품평가에 영향을 미친다는 것을 보여주고 있다. 연구방법 사실적 문양과 양식화 문양 간의 소비자 인식과 이미지 평가어가 문양 선호도에 미치는 영향을 분석하기위해, 본 연구는 서울에 거주하는 130명의 성인을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 응답자들은 도자 찻잔 꽃문양을 보고 자신의 의견을 설문지에 기입하였다. 연구결과 분석결과 17개의 이미지 평가어 중 10개의 평가어가 선호도와 유의한 상관관계를 나타냈다. 개성적인 이미지와 감성적 이미지와 관련된 평가어 들이 포함되었다. 사실적 문양과 양식화 문양의 이미지 비교결과, 사실적 문양은 현대적 이미지와 관련된 평가어가 높게 나타났다. 양식화 문양은 감성적 이미지와 관련한 평가어가 높게 나타났다. 결론 본 연구는 문양 선호도에 영향을 주는 이미지 평가어가 다양하게 나타나며, 꽃문양의 유형은 소비자의 디자인 이미지에 대한 인식에 영향을 미친다는 것을 보여 주고 있다. 본 연구 결과는 이론적으로 문양의 유형을 활용한 시장세분화와 이를 기반으로 한 마케팅 전략을 정교화해주며, 산업적 측면에서 문화 상품의 경쟁력을 높이는 문양 디자인과 이미지 평가어의 유용성을 제시해 주고 있다. 본 연구는 실증적 연구를 통해 문양 디자인에 대한 소비자의 인식을 분석했다는 점에 의의가 있다.

Issues with inaccurate information on social media have caused a rising concern. In addition to improving students' knowledge and skills in evaluating the quality of social media information, there is also a need to understand potential barriers such as students' lack of attention to information quality. Surveying over 1,800 students, the current study investigated the relationships among students' perceived importance of finding quality information, academic background, purposes of social media use, and evaluative actions taken. A multiple regression analysis revealed that two purposes of use and other academic backgrounds are related to the perceived importance of finding quality information from social media. Further investigation through correspond- ence analysis revealed distinctive clusters of evaluative actions when the purpose of use was to get background information from social media – the purpose closely related to the perceived importance of finding quality information. Implications of the findings on information literacy education were discussed.

Recent research shows that some types of social media such as wikis and social networking sites have emerged as important sources of information. While social media are becoming increasingly popular, the quality of information available through them varies widely and is difficult to assess. This study examined the main purposes behind undergraduate students' use of different social media platforms in information-seeking and the strategies they use for evaluating information from social media in academic contexts. The results were then compared with what academic librarians deem useful. The comparison helped identify gaps between students and librarians regarding the use and evaluation of information from social media. Two web surveys were conducted: one for undergraduates (n = 1355), and the other for academic librarians (n = 189). The study found the two groups similar in terms of social media platforms used for information-seeking, and also the main purposes for using them. However, a significant gap was detected in the strategies that students used, and those that librarians found useful, for evaluating information from social media. Based on the findings, suggestions were made for information literacy education and future research.

연구배경 최근 소비자와의 접점을 중시하는 브랜드 마케팅이 효과적인 전략으로 활용됨에 따라 제품의 포장 디자인은 브랜드 전략의 매우 중요한 수단으로 인식되고 있다. 포장디자인은 소비자의 시선을 끌고 다른 브랜드와 구별해 주는 기능은 물론 제품의 품질이나 가치를 제고하는 전략적인 수단으로 활용되고 있다. 그러나 포장 디자인의 효과에 관한 실증적 연구가 매우 저조한 상황이다. 연구방법 본 연구는 포장디자인이 소비자의 구매 의사 결정 과정에 어떠한 영향을 미치는 지 파악하기 위하여 대학생 225명을 대상으로 분석을 실시하였다. 연구 참가자들은 저관여 제품인 비누의 포장디자인에 노출된 후 자신의 반응을 설문지에 기입하였다. 연구결과 소비자의 인지적 반응과 감성적 반응 모두 디자인 태도와 제품 태도에 긍정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 감성적 반응이 인지적 반응보다 디자인 태도와 제품 태도에 더 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 제품태도는 디자인 태도보다 구매의도에 더 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 결론 본 연구는 저관여 제품의 포장디자인은 소비자의 감성적 반응을 자극하여 제품에 대한 태도를 높임으로서 구매를 향상시키는 소비자 반응과정을 실증적으로 설명해 주고 있다. 본 연구는 이론적으로는 포장디자인의 설득커뮤니케이션 이론을 정교화해주며, 실무적으로는 포장디자인의 효과적인 커뮤니케이션 기법을 제시해 주고 있다. 본 연구는 브랜드 커뮤니케이션 영역에서 실증적 연구를 통해 지식을 확장한다는 데에 의의가 있다.

The study sought to (1) investigate whether international students differ from domestic students in their information needs and barriers encountered, and (2) test the relative importance of students' domestic/international status against their gender and level of study. A survey was used to collect data from international and domestic undergraduate and graduate students in a US public university. The study collected 1259 responses. Regression analysis was used for analyzing the data. International and domestic students were found to be similar in their top-ranked needs (e.g., career information) and barriers (e.g., irrelevant and non-credible information). Compared to their gender and level of study, students' domestic/international status resulted in fewer significant differences in their needs and barriers. However, for the areas where domestic/international status was significant, its effect size was often prominent. Differences between domestic and international students are more notable in the barriers than in the information needs. Based on the findings, six propositions were developed. The implications for research and practice are discussed.

EDITOR'S SUMMARY ASIS&T's Special Interest Group/Information Needs, Seeking and Use (SIG/USE) met during the 2014 Annual Meeting for the group's 14th Annual Research Symposium, focusing on Context in Information Behavior Research. Keynote speaker J. David Johnson set the tone as he encouraged research into the context of information activities outside the usual settings and using varied theoretical perspectives and tools. Attendees also heard 14 lightning talks exploring conceptual and methodological issues. Speakers considered time and emotion as dominant contextual influences in information behavior, the role of information overload and ways diverse contexts affect seeking and providing information. Discussion of research methods encouraged a mixed-method approach and analytic bracketing and illuminated how study participants create their own information context. During the world cafe session, tablemates discussed how information context is constructed and evolves, research gaps and available methodologies. The symposium ended with presentation of awards for outstanding research, best paper and poster and for travel to pursue studies. Gary Marchionini was recognized for his outstanding contributions to information behavior research throughout his career.

How to obtain valuable knowledge more effectively from historical cases and satisfy the requirements of supporting diagnosis or management decision making is one of the important and challenging issues in the research field of modern historical information management and intelligent decision-making science. In this study, we develop a novel case-based reasoning (CBR) method which is based on information entropy and improved gray systems theory for knowledge acquisition of historical diagnosis decision-making cases. Specially, information entropy for weight determination is introduced into the CBR, as well as a gray system theory combined to support the diagnosis decision making of breast cancer. Based on two different real-world data sets, we conduct experimental studies to compare the performance of the Delphi method and information entropy. We also investigate which combination is best among different weight determination methods and retrieval algorithms. The results suggest that: generally, information entropy is a better approach to weight derivation and better matching effect can be obtained if it is integrated into the retrieval algorithm based on gray system theory rather than Euclidean distance algorithm. Our study can provide a novel approach to obtain weight values of cases, as well as an effective tool to mine valuable decision knowledge from historical cases in public hospitals.

This study examines cultural authenticity reflected in multicultural picture books. Specifically, this study attempts to reframe issues surrounding the topic of cultural authenticity based on a systematic and empirical analysis of picture books that represent three different ethnic groups: African Americans, Asian Americans, and Hispanic Americans. A total of forty-five systematically selected picture books that represent fifteen books per ethnic group were selected and evaluated by multiple reviewers who were insiders of the culture. A coding scheme was developed to evaluate each book in terms of profile of major and minor characters, settings of the story, stereotypical features, and cultural authenticity. An in-depth evaluation of all selected books was added by a team of three reviewers in order to validate the results of the coded analysis. This study aims to shed light on library youth services and diversity education in a society with increasing ethnic diversity.
