Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly affected all aspects of our lives. Through real-time monitoring and rapid vaccine implementation, we succeeded in suppressing the spread of the disease and mitigating its consequences. Finally, conclusions can be summarized and drawn. Here, we use the example of Poland, which was seriously affected by the pandemic. Compared to other countries, Poland has not achieved impressive results in either testing or vaccination, which may explain its high mortality (case fatality rate, CFR 1.94%). Through retrospective analysis of data collected by the COVID-19 Data Portal Poland, we found significant regional differences in the number of tests performed, number of cases detected, number of COVID-19-related deaths, and vaccination rates. The Masovian, Greater Poland, and Pomeranian voivodeships, the country’s leaders in vaccination, reported high case numbers but low death rates. In contrast, the voivodeships in the eastern and southern parts of Poland (Subcarpathian, Podlaskie, Lublin, Opole), which documented low vaccination levels and low case numbers, had higher COVID-19-related mortality rates. The strong negative correlation between the CFR and the percentage of the population that was vaccinated in Poland supports the validity of vaccination. To gain insight into virus evolution, we sequenced more than 500 genomes and analyzed nearly 80 thousand SARS-CoV-2 genome sequences deposited in GISAID by Polish diagnostic centers. We showed that the SARS-CoV-2 variant distribution over time in Poland reflected that in Europe. Haplotype network analysis allowed us to follow the virus transmission routes and identify potential superspreaders in each pandemic wave.

Background Regional/national SARS-CoV-2 genomic data platforms (DP) have played a key role during the Covid-19 pandemic to centralize data, curate, process and re-share them in a consistent form and pseudonymized/anonymized to international repositories. In Europe, several countries were able to establish such infrastructures rapidly and put them in production over the course of 2021, some earlier. Methods This survey aimed to estimate the effort that was needed to establish and run these DPs during the sequencing peak of the pandemic in 2021, including activities from data curation to data brokering, and what it would take to expand these DPs to other pathogens and antimicrobial resistance from 2023 onwards. Results Overall, a median of 10 person-months (PM) were used by each DP over 2021 and a median of 18 PM (per year) would be needed to expand activities from 2023 onwards. This survey shows that short-term funding remains commonplace and a struggle for the majority of DPs. Key supporters and arguments (e.g. centered around efficiency and cost-savings) for public health authorities and research funding bodies have also been identified to help individual data platforms in strengthening their funding proposals. Conclusions Ultimately, we propose that DPs get connected into a supra-national entity to build a stronger case and get access to major infrastructure funding grants at the European and global levels.

Astrophysics - High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena - Abstract
We present the results of modelling of the radio spectrum evolution and dispersion measure variations of PSR B1259-63, a pulsar in a binary system with Be star LS 2883. We base our model on a hypothesis that the observed variations of the spectrum are caused by thermal free-free absorption occurring in the pulsar surroundings. We reproduce the observed pulsar spectral shapes in order to examine the influence of the stellar wind of LS 2883 and the equatorial disc on the pulsar's radiation. The simulations of the pulsar's radio emission and its consequent free-free absorption give us an insight into the impact of stellar wind and equatorial disc of LS 2883 has on the shapes of PSR B1259-63 radio spectra, providing an evidence for the connection between gigahertz-peaked spectra phenomenon and the close environment of the pulsar. Additionally, we supplement our model with an external absorbing medium, which results in a good agreement between simulated and observational data., Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures

Astrophysics - High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena - Abstract
The core component width in normal pulsars, with periods ($P$) $>$ 0.1 seconds, measured at the half-power point at 1 GHz has a lower boundary line (LBL) which closely follows the $P^{-0.5}$ scaling relation. This result is of fundamental importance for understanding the emission process and requires extended studies over a wider frequency range. In this paper we have carried out a detailed study of the profile component widths of 123 normal pulsars observed in the Meterwavelength Single-pulse Polarimetric Emission Survey at 333 and 618 MHz. The components in the pulse profile were separated into core and conal classes. We found that at both frequencies the core as well as the conal component widths versus period had a LBL which followed the $P^{-0.5}$ relation with a similar lower boundary. The radio emission in normal pulsars have been observationally shown to arise from a narrow range of heights around a few hundred kilometers above the stellar surface. In the past the $P^{-0.5}$ relation has been considered as evidence for emission arising from last open dipolar magnetic field lines. We show that the $P^{-0.5}$ dependence only holds if the trailing and leading half-power points of the component are associated with the last open field line. In such a scenario we do not find any physical motivation which can explain the $P^{-0.5}$ dependence for both core and conal components as evidence for dipolar geometry in normal pulsars. We believe the period dependence is a result of an yet unexplained physical phenomenon., Comment: 25 Pages, 17 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

Introduction The study aimed to compare factors influencing social adaptation of children from families at risk of social exclusion versus their peers with higher socioeconomic status. The analysis applied to coping strategies in difficult social situations as well as intrapersonal and interpersonal attitudes, and attitudes towards the world. Material and methods The study involved 169 children (girls n = 85, boys n = 84) aged 13-14 years. Children were included in the criterion group based on a statutory minimum subsistence level applicable for a given year in Poland. Results Children with higher levels of resilience scored high in cognitive-intellectual and physical spheres as well as in personality, pro-social, socio-moral and support spheres and the sense of efficacy. Factors such as socioeconomic status and family structure were found to differentiate children in terms of coping mechanisms and attitudes towards themselves, other people and the world. Conclusions The study revealed that the child’s psychological resilience is of particular importance for social adaptation.

Background:Women after mastectomy may decide to either have a breast reconstruction or use an external breast prosthesis. Aim: The aim of the presented research was to evaluate the influence of external breast prosthesis on postural stability in women after mastectomy. Methods and Procedures: In the study 52 women after unilateral mastectomy took part. The study consisted of 4 parts: 1) anthropometric measurements; 2) measurements of upper limb circumference; 3) assessment of weight-bearing (WB); and 4) posturographic tests (PT). Outcomes and Results: Differences in the arm circumferences on the amputated (A) and non-amputated (NA) sides did not confirm the occurrence of lymphedema in limb on amputated side. The results of the WB between the A and NA body sides in both tested conditions, i.e., with open and closed eyes, showed no significant differences between the test with and without an external prosthesis. No statistically differences have been observed between posturometric parameters with and without breast prosthesis during both PT. In comparing the posturometric parameters between the PT with open and closed eyes, the sway path of the center of pressure was statistically significantly longer when eyes were closed in both conditions, i.e., with and without breast prosthesis. Conclusion and Implications: The finding show that 1) external breast prosthesis does not have a significant influence on the symmetry of loading on the A and NA body sides and on the postural stability of women after unilateral mastectomy and 2) exclusion visual control during PT increases postural instability in women after unilateral mastectomy.

ABORTION ,PUBLIC sphere ,SOCIAL reality ,HEGEMONY - Abstract
The existing research on and conceptualization of the public presence of religion usually builds on the Habermasian understanding of the public sphere. This has centered the discussion on the public presence of religion around the question of where such a presence is justified. Discourse theories offer an alternative understanding, stating that the public sphere is an area of struggles where diverse discourses compete to establish a definition of social reality as taken for granted and hegemonic. This shift opens the question of how a given definition of social reality becomes taken for granted, pointing to the role of legitimation. Against this background, our article argues that religion's ability to serve as a valuable "resource" for building justifications in discursive struggles for hegemony could serve as indicators of its presence in the public sphere. Along these lines, we analyze religion's legitimizing role in abortion policy-making in Poland. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

W niniejszym artykule analizuję współczesny dyskurs nauk społecznych pod kątem obecności w nim badań nad przerywaniem ciąży. Aborcja jest często występującym zabiegiem medycznym, a jednocześnie stanowi jeden z najgorętszych przedmiotów debaty publicznej angażujący środowiska religijne, feministyczne i polityczne.

Astrophysics - Astrophysics of Galaxies ,Astrophysics - Solar and Stellar Astrophysics - Abstract
In this paper we give the first attempt to model the evolution of the spectrum of PSR B1259$-$63 radio emission while the pulsar orbits the companion Be star. As suggested by Kijak et al. (Mon. Not. R. Astron. Soc. 418:L114, 2011a) this binary system can be useful in understanding the origin of the gigahertz-peaked spectrum of pulsars. The model explains, at least qualitatively, the observed alterations of the spectral shape depending on the orbital phases of this pulsar. Thus, our results support the hypothesis that the external factors have a significant impact on the observed radio emission of a pulsar. The model can also contribute to our understanding of the origin of some non-typical spectral shapes(e.g. flat or broken spectra)., Comment: 9 pages, 2 tables, 3 figures

Most women who have had a mastectomy and have not opted for breast reconstruction choose to use an external breast prosthesis. This study aimed to assess the impacts of external breast prostheses on the body postures of women after unilateral mastectomies. An additional aim was to identify whether postural asymmetry depended on the side of mastectomy. This study involved 52 women after unilateral mastectomy and consisted of two parts: (1) anthropometric measurement and (2) assessment of body posture using the moiré topography method. The posturometric indices showed that the body posture of the subjects in the sagittal plane is characterized by forward trunk inclination and a tendency to excessive kyphosis. There were no significant differences between parameters characterizing body posture with and without external breast prosthesis. The lack of external breast prosthesis had a significant effect only on excessive forward trunk inclination. Significant differences were found in the posturometric parameters in the transverse plane between the groups of patients after left- and right-sided mastectomy. The obtained results did not fully confirm the hypothesis that the external breast prosthesis affects the body posture of women after unilateral mastectomy.

According to my research, not only migrants’ understanding of religiosity changes in migratory situation, but also the understanding of their agency in this process. Migrants position themselves as active agents and individually define their religiosity anew. As was stated, their new religiosity is individual and not institutional. There are certain grounds for supposing, that migratory experience plays a vital role in the process of religious emancipation. Goal of the paper is to answer the question whether migratory situation, apart from being a source of religiosity change, contributes also to change in attitudes towards gender roles in society. The answer is based on qualitative research conducted in years 2012–2015 in Iceland.

Uzyskane haplotypy zostały przypisane do 4 następujących haplogrup: K=19%, IJ=7%, R1a1=59% i R1b=15%. Wartość wskaźnika polimorfizmu genomowego dla badanych loci Y-SNP/Y-STR wyniosła 0,9883.

The rapid development of digital technology and its applications in almost all business areas has resulted in the emergence of new terms such as e-supply, e-administration, e-CRM, e-sport, m-commerce etc. This paper describes one of the logistics models in e-commerce based on outsourcing of logistics services, i.e. dropshipping. Presented are logistics processes in e-commerce, various logistic models, applied IT technologies and innovations, as well as principles of functioning and determining marketing methods for this type of trade. The research was conducted on the example of an online store selling toys and children’s articles, which operated on the market based on the dropshipping model. A comparative analysis of the dropshipping warehouse offer was the main part of the research.

Background: The anti-DFS70 autoantibodies are one of the most commonly and widely described agent of unknown clinical significance, frequently detected in healthy individuals. It is not known whether the DFS70 autoantibodies are protective or pathogenic. One of the factors suspected of inducing the formation of anti-DFS70 antibodies is increased oxidative stress. We evaluated the coexistence of anti-DFS70 antibodies with selected markers of oxidative stress and investigated whether these antibodies could be considered as indirect markers of oxidative stress. Methods: The intensity of oxidative stress was measured in all samples via indices of free-radical damage to lipids and proteins such as total oxidant status (TOS), concentrations of lipid hydroperoxides (LPH), lipofuscin (LPS), and malondialdehyde (MDA). The parameters of the non-enzymatic antioxidant system, such as total antioxidant status (TAS) and uric acid concentration (UA), were also measured, as well as the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD). Based on TOS and TAS values, the oxidative stress index (OSI) was calculated. All samples were also tested with indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA) and 357 samples were selected for direct monospecific anti DFS70 enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) testing. Results: The anti-DFS70 antibodies were confirmed by ELISA test in 21.29% of samples. Compared with anti-DFS70 negative samples we observed 23% lower concentration of LPH ( P = .038) and 11% lower concentration of UA ( P = .005). TOS was 20% lower ( P = .014). The activity of SOD was up to 5% higher ( P = .037). The Pearson correlation showed weak negative correlation for LPH, UA, and TOS and a weak positive correlation for SOD activity. Conclusion: In samples positive for the anti-DFS70 antibody a decreased level of oxidative stress was observed, especially in the case of samples with a high antibody titer. Anti-DFS70 antibodies can be considered as an indirect marker of reduced oxidative stress or a marker indicating the recent intensification of antioxidant processes.

Toruńskie afisze poddane w tekście analizie pochodzą z lat 1922-1975 i są przechowywane w zbiorach Książnicy Kopernikańskiej i zasobie Archiwum Państwowego w Toruniu. Każda z grup została szczegółowo omówiona i zilustrowana.

Here we describe the LifeTime Initiative, which aims to track, understand and target human cells during the onset and progression of complex diseases, and to analyse their response to therapy at single-cell resolution. This mission will be implemented through the development, integration and application of single-cell multi-omics and imaging, artificial intelligence and patient-derived experimental disease models during the progression from health to disease. The analysis of large molecular and clinical datasets will identify molecular mechanisms, create predictive computational models of disease progression, and reveal new drug targets and therapies. The timely detection and interception of disease embedded in an ethical and patient-centred vision will be achieved through interactions across academia, hospitals, patient associations, health data management systems and industry. The application of this strategy to key medical challenges in cancer, neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders, and infectious, chronic inflammatory and cardiovascular diseases at the single-cell level will usher in cell-based interceptive medicine in Europe over the next decade., The LifeTime initiative is an ambitious, multidisciplinary programme that aims to improve healthcare by tracking individual human cells during disease processes and responses to treatment in order to develop and implement cell-based interceptive medicine in Europe.

Poland has one of the strictest abortion laws in Europe, and anti-abortion discourse shapes the debate and social attitudes towards the issue. The paper aims to reconstruct the way in which this discourse, as exemplified in the Polish right-wing press, constructs negative views about abortion and to identify the legitimation mechanisms it employs to sustain its interpretations. Based on our findings, resulting from a content analysis of articles from two right-wing weekly magazines, we distinguish three interrelated frames organising Polish anti-abortion discourse, centred on 'defending the unborn', 'protecting women', and 'preserving culture and nation'. While the first two have occurred in the liberal contexts of Anglophone countries, with one replacing the other, in Polish anti-abortion discourse they co-exist. The construction of abortion as a threat to culture and nation is specific to Poland. We argue that by blending together community-related and individualistic arguments, Polish anti-abortion discourse adapts to wider societal changes observable in the country, thereby sustaining its power to define debate.

In this Perspective, owing to an error in the HTML, the surname of author Alejandro López-Tobón of the LifeTime Community Working Groups consortium was indexed as ‘Tobon’ rather than ‘López-Tobón’ and the accents were missing. The HTML version of the original Perspective has been corrected; the PDF and print versions were always correct. © 2021, The Author(s).
